  1. The Kopi is a small Rahi found primarily in deserts, where it hides under the sand during the daytime to escape the searing sun, emerging to hunt during the night. Last moc of 2018/first moc of 2019. I built this hastily on New Year's Eve with the intention of quickly putting something together before midnight.
  2. The Hagah were an elite group of Toa assigned to Makuta Teridax. When his betrayal was uncovered, the six went rogue. All of them, except for Norik and Iruini, were captured and mutated by Roodaka into Rahagah. Norik and Iruini lasted a little longer before surrendering to the Vortixx and succumbing to her powers. The following designs are based off Demitsorou's drawings, particularly this Toa Hagah lineup. Norik, a Toa of Fire, was the leader of the Toa Hagah, Possessing infinite patience, unusual for a Toa of Fire, Norik was an exemplary leader and a hero. He wears the Great Kanohi Pehkui, Mask of Diminishment. Bomonga, a Toa of Earth, was the deputy leader of the Toa Hagah. He used to be a quiet type, preferring to work alone and employing stealth tactics. Despite that, got famous for wrangling a Tahtorak Dragon by using his Mask Power to become as large as the beast itself. Bomonga wears the Great Mask of Growth, shaped after Great Kanohi Hau. Iruini, a Toa of Air, may seem grim and even cynical, but deep inside he cares a great deal about his teammates. He used to be the only Toa Hagah to ever raise a concern over Rahi, showing his devotion to the safety of the Matoran. Iruini wears the Great Kanohi Kualsi, Mask of Quick Travel. Kualus, a Toa of Ice. Always eloquent and classy, even as mutated Rahagah, Kualus enjoyed the company of avian Rahi. He wears the Great Kanohi Mask of Rahi Control shaped after Great Rau. Gaaki, a Toa of Water, wears a Great Mask of Clairvoyance, shaped after Noble Kanohi Ruru. The mask has an unfortunate habit of activating on its own and impose great stress on its wielder, which made Teridax’s betrayal all that much painful for Toa Gaaki. Pouks, a Toa of Stone. He’s loud and boisterous and believes in direct approaches in everything, which makes him come off as brutally honest at times. Pouks wears the Great Mask of Emulation, shaped after Great Kanohi Elda. All models are made in Lego Digital Designer, rendered in POV-Ray and post-processed in Adobe Photoshop.
  3. Mazak is a travelling trader. Everything he carries is up for sale or trade. He prefers trading objects instead of selling them, as his goal isn't to get rich, but to experience as many interesting and unique items as possible before swapping them for something else that's new and exciting. He lives by the motto "everything is for sale and everything has a price". A small tablescrap Matoran that grew out of me fiddling with parts to solve an issue that I ultimately didn't, but ended up making a compact custom torso that fit a Matoran build well. Further images on Flickr. Comments and criticism appreciated.
  4. Author's Note: Crossposting this from Fanfiction.net and Archive of Our Own. This is an alternate conclusion to the Bionicle G1 story. Although there are references to G2 - such as some of the Toa's weapons - it does not connect to G2 in any narrative sense. This fic diverges after the 2008 story, although most of Bara Magna-focused story still occurs in it. I hope to present readers who were disappointed with the original ending with a more appropriate finale that centers on the Toa Nuva. If you notice any grammatical or continuity errors, please leave a review and I will fix them as soon as possible. This fic now has a companion piece, Wisps of Memory, which takes place during chapters 4, 5 and 6 of Fight for Freedom. Both stories can be read separately. Please see my profile for more details on the crossover if you are interested. Chapter 1My name is Teridax. I am a warrior of light, a guardian of peace. I have traveled to this world from my own, chosen by a Matoran warrior to help tip the balance of power. This world is a twisted mirror of my own, with a violent history spawned by my counterpart. The Teridax that resides here has defeated the guardian protector of the universe and taken his place. Entire populations will tremble in fear of what he might do to those who fail to offer their every devotion to his self-obsessed desires. As an example of his inflated sense of self, he even calls himself by his title, 'Makuta'. I will overthrow this tyrant. But to do that, I will need to gather an army. An army that will never be able to truly grasp my intentions, for the beings here do not understand the true nature of this world, and I intend to keep it that way. Gali lay beneath the silver waters that made up the protodermis sea. Once again, she was on patrol of the outer perimeter of the dome that housed her home, Metru Nui. The Southernmost point held the only tunnel that Makuta's forces would be able to attack from. Makuta. She still shivered at the thought. Months ago, she and the rest of the Toa Nuva had finally completed their mission to awaken the Great Spirit, Mata Nui, after his thousand year slumber. However, their victory quickly turned to defeat when they discovered that Makuta had somehow swapped minds with Mata Nui. The day they awoke the Great Spirit, they heard Makuta's voice boom throughout the city. But since then, there had been no sign of any real resistance from him at all. Whatever Makuta was planning, it appeared he could not interfere with them directly. Ever since then, she - and the Toa Mahri - had been cycling underwater patrol duties. The most likely attackers wouldn't be able to easily target a guard watching them from beneath the ocean. The sea was beautiful, relaxing, sparkling, and teeming with life. Fish of an array of different shapes, of fifty-one different colors, swam every direction in huge schools. They searched for food, they remained on the lookout for predators. Just as they had done every day for the past month. The ocean was a part of her, and Gali, a part of it. Fish darted away in her wake, and she could feel the ripples they left behind. Every movement, every wave, every bubble, was an extension of herself. And yet, without someone to share it with her, patrol duty had become a dreaded part of her life. What was the point of swimming if you had no-one to swim with? But everyone else was too busy rebuilding defenses for the city, or training with their Matoran, to simply keep a Toa of Water company on her daily patrols. Gali's thoughts were shattered as she felt the silver waters begin to tremble. Down here, she could barely make out the high pitched whining of something hovering above the surface. Gali continued to stare overhead, waiting to see the beings causing this disruption. The waters rippled harder and harder. A shadow zoomed overhead. Then a second, a third - ten, twenty, fifty. And more still came. I had better find out just who these intruders are. Gali focused her powers to send a waterspout flying up into the air. One of the intruders was caught in the trap. Gali focused her energy to bring the water back down into the sea, dragging her trapped foe below the surface. The intruder kicked and screamed, trying to break free of her hold. An armored shell protected its hunched back, and its head opened into three sections to reveal the worm-like kraata controlling it. "Rahkshi," spat Gali. "We've stopped the likes of you before, and we'll do it again." Gali prepared to finish it off, but the beast swiftly pointed its staff towards her and fired a burst of electricity. She screamed as the current surged through her, but forced herself to send a powerful torrent of water back to her attacker. Before the Rahkshi could recover, she powered toward it. With her free hand, Gali grabbed hold of its faceplate. The beast kicked at her ineffectively, and she pulled it in, wrapping her legs around its torso. Gali activated her Mask of Strength and pried the plates apart. The Rahkshi grabbed a hold of her wrists, desperately trying to stop her. It didn't have a chance against her enhanced strength. Its face was ripped open, and Gali rammed her trident inside, skewering the Kraata. The Rahkshi stopped moving. One down, thought Gali. Looking overhead, she could see dozens of shadows passing over the water. Just five hundred more to go. She blasted another wave at more of the Rahkshi, ready to repeat the process. Vakama walked atop the vast wall that circled the city of Metru Nui. Matoran workers shuffled past, building powerful turrets at regular intervals along the perimeter. It had been a month since the Toa Nuva had awoken the Great Spirit - and a month since the Great Spirit had been taken over by Makuta. Fortunately, since he had announced his presence, he had not actually done anything. A few times, his booming voice had rung through the city, demanding that the Matoran workers kneel before him and do his bidding. But when it became apparent that the workers wouldn't obey; it seemed he had given up. But Vakama did not believe that his old foe of one thousand years had given up. There was an attack coming, and he had to do everything he could to prepare his home. Vakama looked over the ocean to the South. He wasn't quite sure - but it almost looked like something was coming from the Great Barrier. Vakama waited - moments passed, then minutes. It might be nothing He hoped it was nothing. It wasn't nothing. Multi-colored specks lined the distance. "Sound the alarm!" cried Vakama. Two Matoran workers left the turret they were banging on and scurried away. Sirens blared throughout the city. Matoran leaped into turret seats and those that didn't have turrets prepared disk launchers. Three Toa jumped off the great wall, and into the ocean. Three aerial vehicles rushed past overhead. Vakama watched as a blast of water rose out of the silver sea, dragging one of the distant specks down beneath the waves. Closing his eyes, he wearily prepared to face another battle. When he opened them, he squinted at the huge, multi-colored squad coming in, getting closer and closer. They were finally close enough for him to see what they were. Only weeks ago had Metru Nui almost fallen to a Rahkshi attack. Back then, he had found a way to reawaken the Bohrok to fight them. But this time the Rahkshi numbers were even greater, there were no Bohrok, and even Krakua had left the city. The only edge they had this time was the Toa Nuva. Minutes ticked by. The water erupted, again and again, swallowing the attackers, dozen by dozen. Kra-koom! Finally, the first turret fired a huge beam of energy, striking one of the attacking beasts. The Rahkshi crashed into the water, splashing frantically as it struggled to pull itself out. Before Vakama knew it, the sea was ablaze with energy blasts, causing huge fountains of water to rise into the air. Many Rahkshi fell into the sea, never to rise again. But it wasn't enough. There were simply too many. Vakama knew he would join the fight shortly. He didn't have the power of a Toa, or a powerful turret, or even the Mask of Time. But he had cunning - and his Mask of Concealment. Pohatu kicked the Rockoh around, ready for another attack on the oncoming Rahkshi. He powered in, bracketing the first of many Rahkshi in his crosshairs. The Rahkshi was there one second. The next, it was blasted to smithereens by the Rockoh's heavy cannon. Pohatu flew over the hovering hordes of Rahkshi, firing his heavy blaster again and again. He pulled up, having passed the vanguard, and flipped around for another pass. Looking back, he confirmed that Lewa and Tahu were still behind him, piloting the Axalara and the Jetrax. Bursts of light shone around Pohatu as Tahu and Lewa fired their Midak Skyblasters at the Rahkshi, frying their Kraata and turning them into empty, mindless husks that fell helplessly into the sea. Pohatu pulled back on the control bar, pulling his Rockoh up toward the sky, and prepared to make another pass. Gali used her propellers to speed through the water, keeping up with the Rahkshi swarm. Around her, explosions of light peppered the surface. In the distance, Hahli, Jaller and Hewkii were using their powers to snipe the attackers from under the ocean's surface. "Gali!" greeted Jaller, as Hewkii ripped a stone from the island and flung it at an overhead Rahkshi. Jaller kicked over to join Gali. "How are you faring?" asked Gali. "Between the three of us, we've managed to stop a handful of them," Jaller said, proudly gesturing to mechanical parts floating nearby. "How about you?" "My count is a little higher," said Gali, wanting to avoid embarrassing them by revealing the number. "Hey!" shouted Hewkii. "I know Jaller isn't much good for much except hot air, but you could pretend to give us a hand here!" "Let's get them," said Gali. She held out her arms and worked her powers. Focusing, she gained control of the water around her until she could build up an enormous wave above the surface. She used all her might to bring the huge wave crashing down on the enemy forces, forcing a handful of the Rahkshi beneath the surface and down into their domain. Jaller fired his Cordak blaster at one, sending a rocket careening toward the Rahkshi before exploding. The Rahkshi was sent flying backward but recovered quickly. As the Toa Mahri traded attacks with the Rahkshi, Gali created a current to carry her towards one. The Toa Mahri proved an excellent distraction. Gali sped toward the first Rahkshi, trident readied. With a mighty blow, she split the worm in two, cutting off its horrific scream with abrupt finality. A moment later, she cut into another Rahkshi, once, twice, thrice! In moments, it floated beneath the waves, now in two pieces. Using the ocean currents, she pulled the third one towards her, parried its sluggish blow, and thrust her trident into its head. Hewkii and Jaller looked impressed. Gali had managed in seconds what they had struggled to do in minutes. But the fourth - and final - Rahkshi remained in one piece. It fired a blast of plasma at Gali. But Gali had already switched to her Mask of Shielding, and the blast was deflected harmlessly away. "There's an easier way, you know," said Hahli. She focused her own powers of water on the Rahkshi, increasing the pressure around it as it was trapped, kicking and hissing under the water. Hahli strained and groaned. Finally, the Rahkshi's shell buckled and collapsed in on itself. Hahli panted, exhausted by the effort. "You should be able to easily manage that, right?" "Now you are the one teaching me," said Gali, smiling. She looked overhead, toward the shadows still flying past. "Are you ready for more?" "Let's get them," replied Hahli. Turret fire vaporized oncoming attackers, and the Toa Nuva had helped to thin their numbers. But despite the Toa's minor victories, the horde kept coming. The first Rahkshi landed on the beach, organizing themselves into groups. Squads of Blue and Brown Rahkshi formed, firing their staffs. Blasts cut through the great wall, blowing stone chunks apart. Yellow Rahkshi shot their heat vision at the nearby turrets, melting them to slag and forcing the Matoran to leap off the wall to escape the molten metal. Rolling to port, Pohatu pulled back on the throttle, giving him more time to line up his shots. Pulling the trigger three times, he blasted a group of Rahkshi apart with his cannons. He was fast approaching the surface of the city, presenting a larger target for the Rahkshi. Pohatu pulled up into a climb and pushed the throttle to its limit, blasting away from the Rahkshi before they could retaliate. He glanced down. The beach was littered with ruined husks of Rahkshi, their Kraata vaporized or split in two. But it wasn't enough. They were still cutting through the wall. Pohatu sent the Rockoh into a dive, targeting one of the Yellow Rahkshi threatening his Matoran friends. Just as he was about to fire, Pohatu caught sight of a Rahkshi aiming its staff at him. He rolled right - a fraction of a second too late. A searing pain spread throughout his left shoulder. Pohatu screamed, as a stinging heat shot through his arm, worse than anything he had ever felt before. Closing his eyes, he tried to push the pain away. When he opened them again, he realized he was spinning wildly out of control, his vehicle veering sharply to the right. Pohatu tried to grab the handle to steer left but missed the bar. Glancing down, he tried to find the control. The problem was obvious. The handle was fine - but his shoulder had become an empty socket. Too late to worry about that now - he was getting perilously close to the ocean. With only one arm on the control bar, he pushed through the searing pain and tried to get enough grip to steer the vehicle. That was easier said than done. Pohatu slowed the spiral. It would have to do. Desperately, he pulled up on the bar, trying to rise before he crashed. It wouldn't be enough, and he was certain he would land hard in the ocean. Suddenly, he felt an enormous updraft around him, giving him enough lift to right himself. Pohatu brought the Rockoh to a steady hover, looking around for the only Toa that could have saved him. Lewa sidled up beside him. "No time for swimming now - wait till after we drive off these Rahkshi!" "Thanks for saving me. Ready to follow me in for another pass?" asked Pohatu, ignoring the ache in his shoulder. But Lewa was eyeing Pohatu's empty arm socket. "Pohatu, I think you are slow-thinking. You are missing something very important." "Right now, we have a city to save. We can worry about patching up injuries later." "You are in no condition to battle-fly, Pohatu! Get to safety. I will fight for both of us!" "I am not about to let the Rahkshi take our home." Pohatu's eyes narrowed. "I'm armless, not harmless." For once, Lewa didn't see the funny side. He didn't even crack a smile. But Pohatu sped off to defend the city before Lewa could stop him. Onua stood behind the wall that kept the city safe. It was his job, his duty, to make sure the wall kept standing. Continued blasts of light from the other side of the great wall, where the battle took place, strained his eyes. I wish Pohatu were here, he thought. He's much better suited to this sort of thing. Onua looked up to the top of the barrier to see Takanuva perched behind a battlement, rapidly blasting light at the Rahkshi threatening to break through. Panicked Matoran fled the crumbling section of wall, abandoning their ruined turrets. Onua heard more stone cracking and crumbling, as another part of the wall threatened to collapse. He was exhausted from the continued effort of holding the wall together, but he turned and held out his hands anyway. He willed dirt and soil into existence within the cracks, compacting as much into the spaces as he could. He absolutely would not let the Rahkshi into the city. Kopaka circled overhead, firing freezing blasts at the Rahkshi below. But the sound of Rahkshi screams and shattering stone never ceased. Suddenly, a dozen strikes hit a single point. The base of the wall was blasted open. Before Onua could do anything, the wall cracked and collapsed on itself. Dozens of Rahkshi climbed over the rubble. An enormous voice echoed all around the city. "Citizens of Metru Nui. My forces have breached your city. Your defenses are nullified. Surrender to my rule, and your city will remain unharmed. Resist - and I cannot make any such promises." As Onua suspected, Makuta was guiding the Rahkshi attack. The Matoran had already fled. By all means, the battle had already been lost. Now, only a dozen Toa stood in the way of Makuta's forces. Kopaka corkscrewed in, dodging blasts from Rahkshi staff weapons, and landed beside Onua. "Looks like you could use a hand," he said, as he froze a Rahkshi leaping towards them. "Always appreciate the help, Kopaka!" said Onua, slamming his hammer into the ground. Rahkshi running towards the pair looked startled as the earth beneath their feet sunk ten feet down. Kopaka pointed his sword at the newly formed crater, freezing it over. "There's more where that came from," said Kopaka, readying his sword and shield as he charged in to meet his foes. Dozens more Rahkshi had already climbed through the shattered wall. Onua caught a glimpse of Takanuva leaping down from the wall, chasing down Rahkshi that were disappearing down the city streets, madly firing beams of light at them. Quickly, Onua worked to rebuild the gaping hole. Earth and dirt rose up from below shattered columns, creating a new defensive barrier. It would hold up against the Rahkshi - at least, for a short while. Nearby, Kopaka traded blows with two Rahkshi. Onua leaped in to assist him. Activating his Mask of Strength, he swung his heavy hammer at one of Kopaka's attackers. The Rahkshi tried to block with its staff, but Onua's swing was far too powerful. The Rahkshi's staff shattered, its body cracked, and its Kraata was crushed. Onua didn't have time to celebrate. The sound of metal striking metal rang through the air as Kopaka traded thrusts with another of the invaders. Movement to Onua's right caught his eye - another Rahkshi lunged at him. Onua swung his hammer out to meet it. Just as he would have batted the Rahkshi out of the air, it disappeared. The weight of his hammer pulled him around. Where could it be? The obvious place would be behind him. Onua circled, whirling his hammer to where he predicted it would be. The Rahkshi quickly ducked beneath the blow. Onua parried the Rahkshi's strike away and swung at it. Once again, the Rahkshi disappeared. Just like I knew it would. This time, Onua quickly swung his hammer over his head and behind him. The beast materialized a second before Onua's hammer crushed it. He looked up to check on Kopaka. Kopaka held up his shield to block his foe's jab and countered with his own blade. He was wearing the Mask of Strength, and his blade sliced cleanly through the Rahkshi's head. "Good work, brother," said Onua. The perimeter wall was coming under fire again, already on the verge of a second collapse. The rest of the Rahkshi had already disappeared, having already entered deeper into the city. Once again, the booming voice of Makuta drowned out the sounds of fighting. "Surrender, Toa - you cannot hold my sons off forever." Give up? Surrender? They had never done that before. Even when all was lost, when everything seemed helpless, the Toa Nuva always pulled through. They would never abandon the Matoran to their fate. But what if, by staying, the Matoran would be made to suffer? They had, effectively, already lost this battle. If they continued to resist, the Matoran might be tortured - or even killed. All because we don't know when to give up. What would he do? What should he do? "Come on, Kopaka," he said, using his powers to rebuild sections of earth that had fallen from the wall. "We've still got a city to save." Tahu hovered, high above the city, taking in the layout of the Rahkshi below. A small group on the bank were using Sonic blasts to breach another hole in the wall. None of them were paying attention to anything else going on around them. A rookie mistake. Tahu dived in on his Jetrax, taking aim at the intruders. The wall crumbled under the combined might of the sonic blasts, and chunks of stone and protosteel flew everywhere. Tahu squeezed the trigger. Bursts of light consumed the Rahkshi, and moments later, they were all vaporized. Tahu pulled up, looking for his next target. As he moved into position, he caught sight of Lewa and Pohatu making their own attack runs. As Rahkshi swarmed around weak sections of wall, the ground beneath them exploded into stone spikes, sending Rahkshi flying. Pohatu's doing, of course. Lewa swooped by, creating an incredible gale. The Rahkshi were sent flying out into the ocean. Tahu took advantage of the chaos to take a pass at the downed Rahkshi, destroying four with his Skyblasters. Lewa followed Pohatu in for another run at the Rahkshi below. Lewa's Axalara was slower than Pohatu's Rockoh, but better armored. If they were being reasonable, Lewa should have gone in first, shielding Pohatu from any attacks. Pohatu was not being reasonable. The two Toa fired their crafts weapons at the Rahkshi, vaporizing two more. Then they rose, sending their craft into a barrel roll to evade any potential hits from behind. Once out of range, they'd flip around take another pass. Lewa was just managing to keep up with Pohatu's passes. The Rockoh had speeds the Axalara couldn't hope to achieve, but Lewa had been flying for much longer than Pohatu had. He was one with the air, able to feel the turns and the wind. He knew how to turn tighter, how to evade better, and most importantly, how to plan his maneuvers. He pulled back on the control handle, sending the nose of the craft rising up and over even as he rolled the ship to his right-hand side. The result was a fast and effortless maneuver that soon had him facing the Rahkshi again. He brought the targeting reticule over the Rahkshi and prepared to fire, even as Pohatu blasted past to catch up. Another pull of the trigger, another destroyed Rahkshi, and soon enough, another bank to the left to line up yet another shot. The two Toa began to rush in for another attack. Lewa aimed at the next Rahkshi, this one a deep blue. But out of the corner of his eye, Lewa spotted a group of Rahkshi taking aim at them on the beach. "Pohatu, high-rise! High-rise!" Lewa rolled his craft out of the way before the attack could come. Pohatu pulled back on the handle as hard as he could with only one arm. A blast of lightning struck where Lewa had been seconds ago - but Pohatu was caught in the middle of it. Pohatu forced himself to roll right and dive, trying to evade the blast. Quickly, Lewa bracketed the Silver Rahkshi that was blasting Pohatu with lightning. Lewa fired. The silver Rahkshi was engulfed by light - and then, was gone. Lewa turned back to check on Pohatu. Smoke was billowing out of the Rockoh. "Pohatu!" Lewa shouted. "It's time to quick-leave!" he pointed away from the battle, toward the open sea. "You cannot quick-dodge with one arm. You are going to get yourself killed!" Pohatu looked back at the Rahkshi pouring into the city, desperate to protect his home. But it was obvious he couldn't keep going like this. Pohatu sighed. "You're right. I'll find a safe place to land." He flipped his vehicle around and looked back to Lewa. "You'd better fry enough Rahkshi for both of us." He revved the engine and was gone. Lewa snap-rolled, and prepared to make another pass on the Rahkshi. Onua continued to hold up a defensive, earthy wall as best he could. Kopaka froze his work, solidifying it further. But blast after blast struck against it, and Kopaka knew Onua was tiring. Kopaka coated the wall with another blast of ice when he heard the sounds of heavy footsteps approaching. He turned to see a squad of oncoming Rahkshi charging at them from behind. "Great," Kopaka said. "Looks like they've found another way in." Onua created one last layer of earth to hold up the wall as he turned around. "They aren't going to quit, Kopaka!" Once again, Onua ripped apart the ground. Rahkshi fell in, and he pulled the ground back together. The walls of the hole crumbled and cracked as they crushed the Rahkshi within. Kopaka fired a beam of ice at the ground, freezing more of the group to the ground. But for every Rahkshi that they stopped, two more seemed to appear. Rahkshi blasts filled the air, beams of heat and destruction. Kopaka summoned a wall of ice, and the two Toa took cover behind it. Onua peered over and fired a ball of earth, quickly ducking back down just before an energy blast passed through. "We have got to get out of here," said Kopaka. "This isn't a fight we can win. Onua, dig us a hole!" Onua didn't say a word. He simply willed the earth to move out of the way, forming a tunnel below them. Kopaka used his Mask of Vision to see take note of where the Rahkshi were without having to peer over the cover he had created. He focused, and froze the ground under the largest group, forcing the temperature lower and lower until the Rahkshi were frozen solid. "Are you ready?" Onua asked, already climbing into the tunnel. "I'm always ready," replied Kopaka. He climbed in after Onua. Once they were both safely below ground, Onua pushed the earth back into place behind them and continued digging in the darkness.
  5. Summary: Makuta has taken over. As the Vahki enter production and the Matoran of Metru Nui try to adapt to their new lives, Tamaru and his companions seek to find new ways to resist the brutal dictatorship. But with the Toa being unheard from in weeks, does Tamaru really stand a chance at making a difference - or is The Resistance a quick way for the Matoran to find themselves on the wrong end of a Vahki stun staff? A companion piece to Fight for Freedom. Background Macku/Hewkii. Notes: Wisps of Memory is set after Chapter 3 and up to Chapter 6 of Fight for Freedom. You can read them in any order and a small handful of scenes are shown from different points of view. You can read Wisps of Memory without having read Fight for Freedom. This short story deals with trauma, centered around police brutality. The police in this story are all fantasy robots that don't have feelings. Nonetheless, if you find these topics triggering, you may want to wait until you're someplace that makes you feel safe to read. Concrit appreciated, especially for SPAG and continuity errors. Prologue 1,000 Years Ago... Tamaru finally pulled himself away from his store for the afternoon, and headed down through the streets. An enormous telescreen plastered to a building displayed live footage of Turaga Dume. "You are required to gather at the Coliseum. Rejoice! For today will be a momentous…" Tamaru snorted. The entire city had gone on hold for the Akilini tournament yesterday, and now Dume was asking for it to go on hold today as well. Meanwhile, enormous vines ate away at the city, as Toa disappeared one by one. Tamaru had no proof, but he was certain that Dume was behind this. Why else would the Toa Mangai be disappearing on 'simple' missions, instead of banding together and fighting the dark plantlife that slowly consumed the city? He ducked into a side alley, stopping at the doorway of a building. Its shutters were closed, its windows locked up. Over the closed entryway sat a dusty sign with paint that had faded away. If he squinted through the dust, Tamaru could make out the words on the sign. Kemirii's Airship Tours. Kemirii had packed up and left long ago. Airspeeders became commonplace decades ago, and no Matoran wanted to pay money for a view of the city they could see any day of the week. Tamaru rapped on the shutter once, then paused. He rapped five times, then another five. Moments later, the shutter rose. Tamaru stepped inside. "Hello stranger," said a Ko-Matoran at the shutter controls. "Nice of you to decide to finally show up." Tamaru followed the Matoran through the dusty old room toward a workshop in the back. "Ever-sorry, Pakastaa," he panted. "Customer at shop had to test-drive every airspeeder before he could sure-decide the right one." "How much did you get?" "Nothing. Couldn't pick one he wanted and quick-sprinted off to Coliseum." Pakastaa rolled his eyes as he opened the door to the workshop. "Anyway, did you see the Toa in the Coliseum yesterday?" The final member of their group, Sewitta, was already hard at work inside. "Ah yes, the great Toa," Sewitta cut in. "Ruined a fantastic Akilini match with their shenanigans. How long do you think they'll last?" "Three clumsy Toa captured by Dume," mused Tamaru. "By nightfall, three more Toa will quiet-vanish. And none left to protect us." "Not your usual optimistic self today?" said Sewitta, mounting a bracket on a machine. "You didn't think that Toa of Air looked pretty swift? I think he might get out alright. His chutespeak isn't as bad as yours, either! You could try taking speaking lessons from him." "Oh, drop it if you're going to be like that," scolded Pakastaa. "I shouldn't have brought it up, I knew you'd start poking fun at that Toa." He walked over to where the three machines Sewitta worked on lay. "We're nearing completion on these. Tamaru, when can you get us those power cells? "Already have two at shop. For third, hope to find a seller tomorrow." "Can you bring the two you have tomorrow?" Tamaru thought for a moment. "If given a hand to carry one, yes. May need third help-friend if a cell I buy." "Don't worry, I'll give you a ride." Tamaru looked up at the mechs that would finally give the Matoran the power to fight back against the threats that plagued this city. These bipedal beasts were tough, rigid, and heavily armored. Most importantly, they featured a shielded canopy that would protect a Matoran from any mental attacks - like, for example, the beam from a Vahki's staff weapon. "We must quick-finish new machines to fight Vahki-enforcers and dark tree-vine. No Toa to save us from power-hungry Turaga, only we will protect city we love." "Hey, I don't have any deep, passionate love for this city like you do," answered Sewitta. "I'm just not going to let Dume order me around like a tame Ussal Crab." "Oh, so you don't deep-love Onu-Matoran always visiting your home?" Tamaru teased. "What his name was again? Medak?" "Midak, and no, I don't love him," Sewitta snapped. "As far as I'm concerned - love is a cannon." He gently stroked the enormous arm-mounted blaster. Pakastaa sat down and began carving one of the last footrests. "Just be careful where you point that blaster." A rhythmic pounding came from the shutters. "Ugh, who would be knocking at this hour?" asked Pakastaa, who was still working on the mechs. "They don't even know the password. Tamaru, go see who it is." Tamaru sighed, heading into the front room and closing the door behind him. Whoever was coming didn't need to know about the mechs they were working on. The pounding grew more persistent. Before he could close the door to their workshop, a foot kicked through the metal shutter. Two staffs ripped into the metal door, tearing it apart. "Vahki!" Tamaru shouted at the top of his voice. "Scatter!" Tamaru ran for the staircase leading to the higher levels of the tower, getting a glimpse of Pakastaa madly looking for a hiding place. His feet pounded up the stairs. The Vahki in Le-Metru carried staff weapons that could mess with a Matoran's mind, causing them to temporarily lose their higher mental functions for an easy arrest. How had they found them? The only Matoran who knew about the mechs were right here in the building. Cries of terror rose from the lower floors. Suddenly, everything went quiet - save for the bounding thuds of Vahki footsteps coming up the staircase. Had Pakastaa and Sewitta been captured? He smashed open the door to the balcony, dashing through. The constant, cold wind the seemed to permeate constantly this high off the ground sent a chill through Tamaru. Pakastaa kept an airspeeder parked out here, just in case they ever needed to make a quick getaway. Tamaru clambered into the cockpit, looking nervously at the controls. He had to start the ignition, fire the thrusters, and fly away. Easy - he had tested vehicles he was repairing hundreds of times. He just hadn't ever done it so high off the ground before. Three Vahki rushed through the door. Tamaru flicked the ignition, moving his shaking fingers over to the throttle. The Vahki were getting closer, aiming their staffs. In moments, it would be too late. It would take him seconds, a loss of stability as he shot through the air, and then he could return to solid ground. A glance over the edge sent shivers down his spine as he saw how high they were. The building was an unusually short four-stories high, but to Tamaru, it felt like a hundred. It was ridiculous, but at this moment the thought of flying was more frightening than the idea of giving himself over to the Vahki. Besides, they had captured his friends already, and Sewitta would give up his name before long. What was he going to do, find a new mask, a new home, and a new job? Tamaru splayed his arms out over the dash, defeated. Out of the corner of his eye, he could make out the Vahki firing their staffs at him. A moment later, he didn't remember anything at all. *** When Tamaru came to, he was being herded into the Coliseum, surrounded by hundreds of other Matoran. He struggled against his memory, trying to remember how he had gotten here. He looked around, hoping to catch a glimpse of a familiar face. Where were Pakastaa and Sewitta? Dume's voice sounded through speakers throughout the chamber. "It is important that you cooperate with the Vahki Enforcers. They will protect you, and guide you in this joyous time." Matoran of all colors looked around nervously, but cooperated nonetheless. At the end of the chamber, the Vahki were pushing Matoran into spheres roughly as tall them. Each orb was a metallic grey, with a small opening at the top. It was impossible to tell what was happening inside those orbs, as once they were sealed, no sound came out. With these numbers, the Vahki couldn't possibly capture them all if they ran. But no-one looked to make a move against them. If only the mechs were finished, then they would - what, exactly? What did they hope to achieve with three combat suits against hordes of Vahki? "For your safety, heed the commands of the Vahki enforcers. They are here to protect and serve you." He soon approached the front of the line. Spheres with Matoran were being loaded up into Vahki patrol vehicles. Where could the Vahki be taking them? The spheres must be for their safety while they were being transported. But why bother loading them into spheres at all? It was Tamaru's turn to enter one of the strange devices. When he hesitated, a Vahki pushed him into the sphere, closing the entrance behind him. Where would he find himself when he was taken out of this casing? Surely this wouldn't be a permanent arrangement. Dume must need the Matoran somewhere else. But why would he not simply tell the Matoran where they were going? At least the mechs were safe. In a few days, they'd be able to complete them - they would become the protectors of the Matoran. 'Surrender or run' would no longer be the phrase Matoran used when discussing the Vahki. They would soon learn to fight, to overthrow Dume before his mad power grab went any further. Tamaru felt his cocoon rock as something picked it up. But he didn't feel any pain as something struck the casing of the sphere. Soon, the fears and worries he had washed away, leaving a sense of safety, and a feeling of sleepiness. Yes, everything would be alright. The little Matoran closed his eyes, gently drifting away into a deep slumber. When he finally awoke on the sandy shores of an island he had never seen before, all memory of his friends, his home, and the ruthless Vahki had vanished.
  6. A trio of Matoran MOCs I built recently. Pudu is an ever-cheerful Po-Matoran Kohlii champion. The only thing that can ever darken his mood is when he is reminded of the fact that as an athlete, he will be forever stuck in Huki's shadow. Kovi is by far the most efficient miner in all of Onu-Koro. This quality is his saving grace, as it is the only reason why the other Matoran tolerate his constant grumbling and mean demeanor. Lawi is a Le-Koroan musician who keeps running late for performances because he's always out vine-swinging in the deep jungles of Le-Wahi instead. Flickr Albums: Pudu Kovi Lawi
  7. This will be a story series that takes place roughly one thousand years after the original line ended, by this time a new great war has occurred and wiped out the Agori, as compensation the Turaga decided to assimilate their culture and have forbidden the few survivors from telling the newly made Matoran the past and have abandoned the old Matoran language and religion. This story is following the adventures of Ahkmou and some acquaintances of his. Here's the link to the Discussion Board http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/23527-ahkmous-return-discussion-board/ Please give criticism, so far I've only gotten some from family that I've made read this.
  8. This is my response to the June 9, 2018 daily prompt on /r/fanfiction. "Your characters are off to their favorite celebration! Is it a party? A festival? Just the day they met their lover?" Jaller and his squad had just successfully fended off a Muaka. They lured a mob of Fusa to where the Muaka was lurking, forcing it to retreat. The last time they had tried to fend off a Muaka, the Guard burnt down an entire forest. This new tactic was far less destructive, although it required them to locate potential threats before they closed in on Ta-Koro. As they entered the gatehouse, a strange Matoran with a blue mask rushed by. One of Jaller's squadmates hissed at the stranger. "Get out of here!" "Watch it, Nuhrii!" Jaller reprimanded. "Your duty is to protect our citizens, not harass them!" "But he's - " Jaller turned around. "He's nothing. You're a member of The Ta-Koro Guard. You're better than this!" Nuhrii looked deflated, but still managed a "Yes, sir!" The squad soon dropped their discs, bidents, and shields in the gatehouse. Jaller dismissed them, allowing them some sorely needed downtime. They'd won a victory today, but how much longer could they continue to hold out for? Jaller stared at his map, looking for any routes that were left under-patrolled. The Ko-Koronans had not been heard from in some time - he would have to send a team to patrol the icy North March. That would not be a popular order. If only he had more warriors. A patter of footsteps interrupted Jaller's thoughts, and a Matoran barged into the gatehouse. "Captain, Turaga Vakama is summoning us!" "Whatever for, Brander? Doesn't he know I'm busy?" "The Turaga wants to hold a Takara!" A waste of time, thought Jaller. And why call one now, when my guards are tired and morale is running thin? Still, he wouldn't turn down a request from the Turaga. Jaller headed out of the building and into the village. Matoran were scrambling into the stone building that they held the Takara in. Jaller marched up to Vakama's right hand. Kapura was already at Vakama's left. "Is this really the time, Turaga?" asked Jaller, assuming a deep stance. "I must ensure that Ta-Koro is adequately defended." "This is the perfect time", Vakama gently answered. "The flames have spoken to me. I believe this time, the Toa will hear our call. Besides, it would do you good to take a moment to enjoy yourself." Jaller managed a smile. Vakama was right. They'd won a great victory today, and it was time to celebrate. Soon, everyone had found their place. The musicians began their deep, fast beats, and the entire room erupted into a continuous wave of arms. Jaller threw himself into the dance he had been performing for as long as he could remember. Hear our plea, Great Tahu.
  9. The Matoran variant of my self-MOC, Poraru. Poraru was a craftsman in a small village on one of the many unnamed islands dotting the Southern Isles. Though kind-hearted and witty, Poraru was more introverted than most Po-Matoran. While for those Matoran leading less dangerous, more comfortable lives in the lands to the North avoided adventure and peril, those living in the Southern lands more frequently struck out to explore, thus Poraru had many adventures before eventually becoming a Toa. 10. Hoi, the Ga-Matoran fisherwoman, takes her pet Moke for a fishing trip in the early evening. It is the warm season on Mata Nui, and fish are bountiful. Fortune smiles upon Hoi, as she encounters an elusive and dangerous Tawa fish. She will not let this opportunity pass her by, and with her well-trained Moke, the Tawa soon falls. It was a good day.
  11. Hey everyone, I've been spending a lot of time on BS01 lately trying to get a grasp of the G1 canon as a whole (I know, a huge task!) because I'm a stickler for canon and cause hey, why not. One of the things I've been trying to sniff out is a sort of list of the most glaring/significant gaps in G1 - i.e. loose ends and minor (or major) details that never got tied up before Bionicle was cancelled. The resolution of the story serials set after the reformation of Spherus Magna would be the most obvious candidates, but beyond that when I say "glaring/significant" I don't necessarily mean highly-impactful to the main plot (though of course those would count). I'm more thinking in terms of level of interest or implied importance that was never drawn out fully in the books, movies, comics, serials, companion books, etc. I'd love for people to comment with what they think are the biggest/most interesting gaps in the canon, with some explanation as to why you think so. You could even add a bit of theorizing or detective work yourself if you like! If the dialogue stalls I might throw in a few of my own picks just to keep things flowing Looking forward to hearing everyone's thoughts!
  12. The tribal Garara are a semi-intelligent race of Rahi who are an odd cross between rodents and reptiles. Though half as big as the average Matoran, physically weak and primitive, the Garara are convinced of their own superiority and consider themselves the apex life-form with all other species below them, and get violently angry if they feel they are not given the respect their superiority demands. They have a fascination with gold and all that is the color gold, revering it like some sort of deity. The gold pigment is natural in their skin - possibly the reason for their perceived superiority - and the individuals with the most gold on their skin are the most desirable and attractive. While they mentally and technologically primitive, they have oddly enough highly advanced cosmetics intended to make individuals more gold. They are generally passive and harmless, but if offended, are willing to rush into wars they have no chance of winning. They have a characteristic head-tilt, signifying either curiosity or confusion, depending on circumstances. During his many adventures, Brutaka once encountered a Garara tribe. Ever since, they are convinced he is some sort of deity. Flickr album As always, all comments are appreciated!
  13. The Tawa is a very odd Rahi, both in appearance and behavior. While it feels most at home in the waters around Ta and Po-Wahi, it is found in vary numbers all around Mata Nui's coastline. During the colder seasons, they move far off from the shore into deep waters, but during warm weather, they come up to the shallows. They hunt by digging their bodies into the sand so that only their rocky forehead is above ground. In their throats is a rotating set of teeth which are extremely sharp and coated in venom that causes a sensation of burning. This allows them to scare off much larger predators, like Tarakava, and a Tawa bite is particularly damaging and painful. Their bony foreheads used for camouflage, combined with their iconic saw-like teeth give them their name. Their aggression, size and camouflage make them very hard to catch, and any fisher wanting to do so will need a well trained Moke crab helping if they want any chance at success. Since the Tawa is a delicacy in Ga-Koro, many Matoran attempt this feat, and when one of the rarely succeeds, a day-long feast is held celebrating the brave fisherwoman and her loyal Moke. The celebrations include the successful fisher carving a new rod from the bones of the felled Tawa, because the one she used to catch it is always beyond repair. 14. K'thae's people live even deeper than the lowest reaches of the Pit, in an undersea world where the crushing pressure can only be survived by beings adapted to the environment. Creatures living down there are either very hardy, or huge in size, to compensate for the pressure, and almost all are blind - K'thae included. Nonetheless, he posesses ocular organs and eye-slits in his mask, which combined with a similar societal structure, indicate that he and his kin are somewhat related to Matoran and Toa. There's just one problem - K'thae is the last surviving Toa-analog of his people, leaving him alone to defend his smaller and weaker kin. As the life of his people is constant struggle against the local wildlife, he has become very good at his job out of necessity, however the ever growing danger has forced K'thae to consider a plan that in the past would have been unthinkable - migrating closer to the surface. --- Photographing this figure without a proper transparent stand was a right nightmare, hence some pictures featuring my hand. Further pictures: Flickr album. Comments appreciated!
  15. The Moke crab has been domesticated by Ga-Matoran ages ago to assist with fishing, however over time the owning of such Rahi as simple pets has spread to Matoran of other elements, and these Rahi can be found in many homes. Due to generations and generations of taming, the domestic Moke is utterly harmless, save for against fish, and due to their diminutive size (they are much smaller than the Ussal, a Rahi often used as a beast of burden) they can be kept in smaller homes, such as your average Metru Nui apartment. Wild Moke are highly territorial and organize into small packs to defend their areas, even against Matoran. Further images: Flickr album All feedback appreciated!
  16. Whetu and Onupi are two very different, yet very similar Matoran. Whetu is a miner, a grunt worker toiling in the vast mines of Onu-Wahi, digging for Lightstones, protodermis and other valuable minerals. He's down-to-earth with the heart and mind of a worker, much like the countless other miners he works with. Onupi, on the other hand, has more in common in terms of personality with Ko-Matoran than his Onu-Matoran comrades. Not much of a speaker, Onupi is Onu-Koro's most skilled surveyor, and his name is known across Mata Nui for never making a mistake and always finding the best veins. Not he, nor the other Matoran, and not even Turaga Whenua know that this isn't talent, but rather a glitch that allows him to minimally utilize his Kanohi Akaku, a feat no other Matoran is capable of. Despite being so different, Whetu and Onupi are bound by a friendship unlike any on the island of Mata Nui. For outsiders, it might often seem like they hate each other, as constant insults aimed at their different positions fly between them, but it's all in good fun and their way of communicating. They would be willing to die for one another, their friendship more like brotherhood. --- This theme of "similar yet different" continues in their builds. They have similar body shapes and sizes, however Whetu's torso is Slizer-based, Onupi's is fully custom using small Technic doodads. Whetu's drill has a working gear function, and his security frame still allows minimal head motion, and he can actually see out of it too. Onupi, when carrying his tablet "wears" his thumb on his back, concealed by the cape. Flickr album: https://flic.kr/s/aHsmbUEzt6 As always, comments and criticisms much appreciated!
  17. Yet another pair of Matoran. Tarn is a brash and hot-headed lava surfer even by Ta-Matoran standards. He has an insatiable need to perform, achieve and be the absolute best. At everything. Lava surfing is his passion, and he has become obsessed with the myth and legend of Lhii that Turaga Vakama occasionally tells the villagers. His fixation has grown to such a level that his goal is to surpass the fabled skill of Lhii, and to scour the lava falls of Ta-Wahi to find any remnant of the legendary all-yellow surfer, such as his mask. The Turaga has tried time and again to dissuade him, however Tarn often disregards the "ramblings of that old coot". Hoi is a much less rebellious Matoran. In fact, she is a completely everyday Ga-Matoran fisherwoman who shares most of her kin's traits in calmness and wisdom. She'd be mostly of no interest, save for her intense (and mutual) dislike of Macku. Such rivalries are rare among the Matoran of Water, but when the affections of a particularly handsome Po-Matoran Kohlii champion are at stake... well, we've all seen what the sea is like during a storm. --- Having built this pair just a day after my Onu-Matoran due, Whetu and Onupi, a bunch of similarities have arisen in their bodies. Hoi is, again, a Slizer-based build, using a lot of parts from Scuba, Her body is less gappy and better proportioned than Whetu's, the previous Slizer-based Matoran. I'm quite happy with her functional (!) fishing rod. Tarn's body is custom, based primarily on orange Bohrok inner-head pieces (found in the Boxor set). His proportions are a tad off, but I really wanted to incorporate the mata red Pahrak-Kal shield into his torso. His lava surfboard is mainly based on the MNOG appearance, with color changes and some creative liberty. Flickr Album for more images: https://flic.kr/s/aHsmeA5gRt I welcome all comments and criticism!
  18. We're on the tail end of what should have been the third year of Bionicle G2, and there's a high chance that the theme is gone for good. My personal hopes to the contrary notwithstanding, that is what the biggest likelihood is. I'm not here to debate whether it will ever return, or if it even should, but rather to look back and ask what it meant to my fellow BZPowerians. Not just G1 or G2, but Bionicle as a whole. Was it just a cool looking toyline for you, or more? Did you collect the figures without much care for the story? Was it the other way around, with the world and lore gripping you without feeling a need to own the sets? Do you have some kind of emotional connection to it or was it just a cool hobby that you don't particularly mind having passed? Did you collect the sets for their own sake, or was it to get parts for MOCs? For me, I feel I got more attached to Bionicle than I maybe should have, but there's a reason for that - it was one of the very few positive aspects of a tough and dark childhood. It helped me cope during the hard times, and I've grown a great deal of appreciation for both the sets and the storyline. I replay MNOG once every year, almost always listen to the soundtrack of the films or games when writing, frequently build MOCs and try to engage with what remains of the community as an effort to contribute to keeping it alive. When Bionicle got cancelled (both times) I added my voice to the crowd saying that the fans can and should keep it alive, and BZP is the epitome of that. I've been lurking since ~2004, so this site has become entwined with my perception of Bionicle as a whole. Making a product line which ultimately serves as a source of income for a corporation part of your identity is silly and childish, but as a child Bionicle made such an impression on me that it still lingers. I still read the books, am fascinated by the unique world and setting of it. The various characters, the deep lore and intriguing locations always fascinated me. I still strive to complete my collection of sets, and am quite close, but as the years go by achieving that goal becomes harder and harder. Whenever I engage with Bionicle in any way (MOCing, playing one of the game, watching the films, etc) I always eventually reach a point where I just wish there was more to explore, and more coming. The anticipation of images for next year's sets, reading the comics and seeing as the story develops, speaking with other fans about set design or how we imagine upcoming sets will look like based on hints and leaks, discussing the way the story is progressing - I miss all that. G2 brought it back briefly, but was marred by so many fans disliking it, and it was taken away again far too soon. Right now the soundtrack of the films is running in another tab, and is likely influencing my starting of this thread, but I'm curious to know how big a thing Bionicle was in the lives of other fans, and what it means to them.
  19. NGD_GD01 / "Genesis" When you're as famous - or infamous - as the Nyrah Ghosts, whose engineering prowess produced the Fohrok and the Ghostblaster, it's only a matter of time before over-ambitious customers think money can make the impossible possible. The Order of Mata-Nui, a returning customer, once placed a pretty tall order - an autonomous army made up of machines which, unlike the dull Vahki, can think for themselves, reason, and even learn by editing their own programming. The weapon builders constructed a highly advanced machine, but struggled with the programming. They eventually devised a "drone-chain" concept, where the units would be networked and added to the network sequentially, and each new drone would learn from the experiences of the one before it. Unfortunately the system proved too complex, and the Ghosts failed in making it work. After several missed deadlines, the Order retracted the project, and instead bought 600 crates of Zamor launchers. However, one among the Nyrah, who was more motivated by academic achievement than profit decided to continue developing the idea. The first unit, the "genesis drone" of the chain, was already build, so he decided to created a self-enclosed system requiring no further units. Eventually he succeeded, and the drone was given an adaptive program capable of dynamically rewriting itself. The unit was given a strict ethical subroutine, disallowing harm to be done against any innocents and a strong simulated sense of justice. Finally, the creator gave the unit a purpose - to observe and study living biomechanical beings to alter his program accordingly and achieve sentience - be become "alive". By now, Genesis developed to a point where he's chosen a name for himself, and added certain beings to his list of high priority (something these beings insist on calling "friendship"). During his travels, he's helped several Matoran communities who didn't have their own Toa protectors, and strives to once have his deeds recognized with an honorary Toa title. --- The build process for Genesis was spawned by an idea that came to mind while building another MOC, and I ended up tossing this guy together in a few hours as opposed to the usual ~1 month build period. There is plenty to improve on him, and when I get the time, I will. The idea was grabbing a set from just before Bionicle G1 - a Roborider - and something just after Bionicle G1 - Hero Factory - and mashing them together with the goal of getting a result that is Bionicle-y. As always, criticisms and suggestions are welcome, and more pictures can be found here: https://flic.kr/s/aHsmbvvmCB
  20. Who wants bionicle g1 back? with the old building system, continuing on where it ended
  21. Hi, guys! We know that throughout Bionicle's history, there have a small number of video games. Many of them aren't well-received, whether they get mixed or negative reviews. Geez. I thought Bionicle Heroes in 2006 is pretty good. Anyway, if you would want a Bionicle video game that is well-received, what would your dream Bionicle video game would be? For me, I made up of a very good one: Title: Bionicle Generations or Bionicle: Inter-dimensional Forces Makers: Traveller's Tales and TT Games (Makers who made the TT Lego Games from 2005 to now (mainly on Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes and 3: Beyond Gotham, Lego Marvel Super Heroes, Lego Avengers, and Lego City Undercover)) Gameplay: Same as the TT Lego Games, but constraction figures in place of minifigures or just minifigures with pieces similar to the Hero Factory minifigures in 2014. In the story, you will play certain main characters from the past storylines. Also, while you do an adventure in a level or you are doing a mission for someone in a hub area, you can fight enemies of various kinds and bosses from the storylines. Each of the bosses have a boss meter, which would be either a straight line or have at least 3-4 hearts, like in the Lego Games. They would also have their minions come to their aide. All characters can be voiced by people from the Lego Games, and their descriptions would look modernized by today's Lego building system, so this system, probably the CCBS, would re-master their Bionicle-set-like descriptions while re-cycling some G1 parts, making them look better in the game, like the Muaka, Kane-Ra and the Bohrok having bendable limbs and Nui-Rama having legs (It's like how you look at Metal Sonic from Sonic CD video game in 1993 and Perfect Chaos from Sonic Adventure in 1998 for how they got modernized and re-mastered by graphics in Sonic Generations). There is also a function in a level, where you switch between characters in different places, even ones far away, like that function in the Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars game in 2011 and Lego The Lord of the Rings game in 2012. The graphics are 3-D, like the Lego Games. Plus, the game would be released in a console version of many kinds. Story: It would be like Turtles Forever in 2009 and Sonic Generations in 2011 when a player explores the main parts of the franchise's history. The game would be a crossover sequel of Bionicle G1 (2001-2010-2011) and G2 (2015-2016), as Velika from G1 kidnaps Vezon and steals the G1's Mask of Time from Voporak. He would use Vezon as an inter-dimensional device, due to Vezon having the powers of the Kanohi Olmak, aka Mask of Dimensional Gates, to go to the G2 universe, in the Shadow Realm, where he meets Makuta, from G2, who is trapped there. Before Velika frees Makuta, he offers Makuta that in order to destroy their good-hearted foes and take over both universes, they have to work together. Makuta agrees because he wants revenge on G2's Toa and Ekimu and be praised as a god before he gets out of the Shadow Realm while going with Velika to G2's real world. Velika and Makuta also steal G2's Mask of Time, as Velika revealed that the G2 Mask is the upper half of the G1 Mask, which is the lower half. He further explains that in the G1 universe, when Spherus Magna was shattering after the Core War, the Great Beings created instructions and got materials for the completed Mask of Time. However, they worried that if the Mask is destroyed in the Matoran Universe, it would do a lot of damage to the place, so they planned to divide the Mask into two functional halves in hopes of lessening the damage. They started with the upper half before they had Artakha invent two Olmak. They used one of the Olmak to go to the G2 universe to hide the upper half of the Mask of Time there. When they arrived, they gave it to Ekimu for safekeeping. The Great Beings were trying to create the lower half, but they are running out of time before Spherus Magna is destroyed, so they had Artahka keep the materials for the lower half in the Matoran Universe before the Shattering happened. Artahka was worried that if the lower half is destroyed in the MU, it would do a lot of damage in there, too (But not as much as a completed Mask of Time), so he used the materials to create the six Great Disks before in hopes of decreasing the damage. Velika and Makuta now have both halves of the Mask of Time, so they forge them together to create the completed Mask. This new Mask of Time is stronger than the individual halves. The duo of villains also create a giant mech-like machine that can travel through time and space. It also contains the new Mask to travel through time and Vezon to inter-dimensional travel. The villains also use the machine to try to change the G1's and G2's past storylines to help the bad guys in there succeed, defeat their heroic enemies, and turn everything in there into their horrible and tyrannical images. They also recruit Von Nebula from Hero Factory since Von Nebula is a mastermind like them and wants revenge on his heroic enemies (and he could the main culprit for the Breakout when he had Black Phantom stole the plans for the Hero Factory building and then Brain Attack events when he gave the plans to the Brain maker). I add that part because I would like to think that Hero Factory shares the same universe as Bionicle G1 because of the similarities, and it may be implied, despite Greg Farshtey not admitting it just because the themes aren’t active. Anything can happen, like how Legends of Chima became a part of Ninjago. So, the villains also do evil changes in HF’s events. When the Toa Nuva, G1's Tahu, Takanuva, Gresh, Mata Nui (the being, and who is awaken to notice this, so he got himself his Toa-sized form again), and Ekimu notice something is horribly wrong with the space-time continuum in their universes and the machine appeared, stealing their allies and friends, and throw them into the past storylines, they go after the machine. Before Ekima goes after the machine, he summons G2's Toa to help him deal with the problem while G1 Tahu goes to find an Energized Protodermis pool to become a Toa Nuva again (and probably have Artakha make new replacements for his lost masks in Ta-Koro’s destruction) because he has a feeling that this problem would be very hard to deal with. The Heroes from Hero Factory have the same thing. The main heroes from G1 and G2 and HF end up in a strange inter-dimensional world where there are time and inter-dimensional portals that lead to the past storylines, and they are created by the machine, and that place is the main place in the game (similar to white space place in Sonic Generations). The heroes from both universes meet each other for the first time (It goes like this: The Toa Nuva, G1 Tahu, Takanuva, Gresh, and Mata Nui (all main heroes of G1) meeting with the G2 Toa and Ekimu (the main heroes of G2) ), as well as the Alpha 1 Team from HF, and they see their similarities and differences. The forces of good introduce each other (Funny that I would imagine that the Toa Mata and G2 Toa would fight each other to see which team is better, and the two Pohatu's argue about their personality differences. Lol. ). Takanuva, Gresh, Mata Nui, and Ekimu and the HF heroes also question why they don't see their own counterparts other than the Toa Nuva and G2 Toa, but they say that they share some similarities with each other and the Toa teams. After good forces from both universes discuss their common problem involving the machine, they agree to work together to set things right in the past storylines, find and find out what the machine is, destroy it, and save both of their universes before the machine does any more damage in the space-time continuum of them. That's just the prologue of the story. Here's where a player starts playing. It will play the main heroes in the new story. Throughout the story, there are 15 Bionicle levels (the habitual things that Lego Games have nowadays). The player would begin the first level by going into the portal leading to it. After completing the first level, the second level will be unlocked with the portal to it being opened. After completing the second level, a third level will be unlocked before so on until the 15th level, which is the final level. Each of the first 14 levels is based on one of the main storylines in the Bionicle franchise, but they have to be quick because of the new story. In each of those levels, you could have the main heroes team up with the ones from their respective storylines, who you can play, too. Also, the levels show that the storylines are sort of altered with changes made by the machine to make their respective heroes' adventures harder than how they were in the storylines before the dangerous changes happen in the game, and these changes threaten to defeat the heroes. The main heroes of the game notice, so they go to save the storylines' heroes from them and help these heroes defeat these changes (It's like Kingdom Hearts games when you look at them). These changes include more villains from the past storylines summon their minions to assist them in their battles with the heroes, the Bohrok-Kal forming the Bohrok-Kal Kaita to stop the Toa Nuva in their final battle in the early 2003 storyline, and Umarak the Destroyer and G2 Makuta working together side by side, with their minions to their aide, to try to defeat the Toa Uniters and Ekimu in the 2016 storyline. The levels are: 1. The 2001 storyline - This level would be a tutorial for the player. The main objective in the level is to collect 12 masks and a Golden mask for each Toa Mata while protecting the Matoran and Turaga. Then, the Toa become Toa Kaita before facing Makuta Teridax. Characters in the storyline to play: the Toa Mata. Enemies: Rahi with Infected masks - Fikou, Shore Turtles, Nui-Rama, Nui-Kopen, Nui-Jaja, Tarakava, Muaka, Kane-Ra, Kuma-Nui, Manas, and Mana Ko. Boss in the middle of the level: Tarakava Nui, Lewa wearing an Infected Mask, and Shadow Toa. Boss in the end of the level: Teridax in his vortex form. 2. 2002 - Objective: Collect 8 kinds of dominant Krana from each type of Bohrok by defeating the Bohrok who has them while protecting the people. After that, use them to unlock the Exo-Toa before fighting the Bahrag. Characters in the storyline to play: the Toa Mata with Golden Kanohi and their Exo-Toa when piloting them. Enemies: Bohrok, Bohrok Kaita, Bohrok Va, Bohrok Va Kaita, and Krana-controlled Matoran. Bosses in the middle of the level: Krana-controlled Tahu, Lewa, and Turaga Matau. Bosses in the end of the level: the Bahrag. 3. Early 2003 - Objective - Find and fight the Bohrok-Kal and get the Toa Nuva's elemental powers back. Characters in the storyline to play: the Toa Nuva with their powers increased. Enemies: Random hostile Rahi in the island of Mata Nui. Bosses: the Bohrok-Kal and Bohrok-Kal Kaita (they would happen as the Bohrok-Kal's last resort). 4. Late 2003 - Objective: Protect Takua and Jaller from the Rahkshi that Makuta summoned to get them. Then, when Takua becomes Takanuva, find and fight Makuta. Characters in the storyline to play: the Toa Nuva, Takua, Takanuva, Jaller, Pewku when riding him. Enemies: hostile Rahi, Infected-Mask-wearing Matoran, Rahkshi (?) (Turahk, Guurahk, Levahk, Korahk, Panrahk, and Vorahk), Rahkshi Kaita (?), Kraata, Shadow Kraata. Bosses in the middle: Kurahk-infected Tahu, Rahkshi (?), and Rahkshi Kaita (?). Boss in the end: Makuta in his Shadow Titan form. 5. 2004 - Objective: Collect six Great Disks while protecting the Matoran from the Morbuzakh before fighting it. After that, fight the Vahki and two Dark Hunters, Nidhiki and Krekka, before fighting Makuta. Characters in the storyline to play: the Toa Metru and Kikanalo when riding them. Enemies: Vahki, Kranua, Kraahu, and Krahli. Bosses in the middle: Morbuzakh, Nidhiki, and Krekka. Boss in the end: Makuta in his winged Titan form. He would turn from the movie version of the form into the set version, because the set version looks more dangerous and harder to beat than the movie version. 6. 2005 - Objective: Find Keetongu and then fight the Visorak and their leaders. Characters in the storyline to play: the Toa Hordika, whose abilities are sort of different from the Toa Metru, and Keetongu. Enemies: Visorak. Bosses: corrupted Vakama, Sidorak, and Roodaka. 7. 2006 - Objective: Fight and free the Priaka's enslaved and mind-controlled Matoran servants in Voya Nui, fight the Piraka and Brutaka, go through the trails in the Chamber of Life, and finally fight Vezon and his steed, Fenrakk, who would turn into the Kardas Dragon, in order to get the Mask of Life. Characters in the storyline to play: the Toa Inika, whose elemental powers are mixed with lightning and have Zamor Launchers that can cure the Matoran to free them from their enslavement. Enemies: enslaved Matoran and Nektann robots. Bosses in the middle: the Piraka, Brutaka, illusions in the Zone of Nightmares, who are based on past enemies, and Umbra. Bosses in the end: Vezon and Fenrakk, who would become the Kardas Dragon after being defeated. 8. 2007 - This level takes place in underwater, as water-breathing characters can swim in there. Objective: Find the Mask of Life while protecting it from and fighting the Barraki, Hydraxon, Maxilos, which is possessed by Makuta, and Spinax. Matoro would also go to a place where he would use the mask to revive the Great Spirit Mata Nui. Characters in the storyline to play: the Toa Mahri, who are armed with Cordak Blasters. Enemies: the Barraki's underwater creature forces and Zyglak. Bosses in the middle: the Barraki, Nocturn, Hydraxon, Maxilos, Spinax, giant Gadunka, giant 300-foot-long Mutant Venom Eel, and that giant and organic Behemoth creature that Kongu summoned. Bosses in the end: the Barraki. 9. 2008 - In this level, there is a lot of flying involved. Objective: Protect Av-Matoran from eight members of the Brotherhood of Makuta, or the Makuta as you can call them, and their Shadow Matoran minions, fight the Brotherhood and Shadow Matoran, destroy the Shadow Leech Hive, search for and use the six Keystones to unlock the Codex after you find the Codrex, use a Klakk to cure the Shadow Matoran, have Toa Ignika re-awaken Mata Nui in the Codrex, and finally use the Codrex's flying vehicles to fly away from the Energy Storms until you get to a portal to get out of Karda Nui. Characters in the storyline to play: the Toa Nuva (wearing their Adaptive Armor, which can adapt to any environment they are in and vehicles), Takanuva (in his giant and partial-drained-light form), Toa Ignika (including his Skyboard), and the Toa Nuva's Av-Matoran allies (Tamna, Solek, and Photok, who Kopaka, Lewa, and Pohatu can combine with). Enemies: Shadow Matoran, Shadow Leeches, and Rahi in Karda Nui except for the Klakk. Bosses in the middle: the eight Makuta (Antroz, who would fight both by himself and driving the Jetrax T6, Vamprah, Chirox, Krika, Gorast, Bitil, Mutran, and Icarax) and their Shadow Matoran servants (Raidak, Gavla, Kirop, and Vican, who Antroz, Vamprah, Chirox, and Mutran can combine with). Bosses in the end: the Makuta. 10. 2009 - Objective: Fight the Skrall, Bone Hunters, and their leaders to save Bara Magna from them. Characters in the storyline to play: Mata Nui (in his 7-foot-tall form with the Mask of Life), Ackar, Kiina (with her Thornatus), Gresh, Gelu, Tarix, and Vastus, at least. Enemies: the Skall, Rock Agori, Bone Hunters and Rock Steeds, Vorox, and Zesk. Bosses in the middle: Branar, Stronius, Atakus, Fero and Skirmix, Malum, Strakk, a Sand Bat that attacked Mata Nui, a Skopio that also attacked Mata Nui and his two of allies, Sahmad (including his Baramus V7 and Spikit), and Telluris (with his Skopio XV-1). Bosses in the end: Tuma, Hero and Skirmix, and Metus. 11. 2010 - Objective: First, have Mata Nui find a power source for the Prototype Robot on Bara Magna. Then, use the power source to activate the Robot, so he can control it as his new body. Later, the Battle for Bara Magna happens. Have Tahu, Takanuva, and Fresh find the six pieces of the Golden Armor while fighting bad guys who has them. During that, have Mata Nui fight against Makuta Teridax, who is controlling the Great Spirit Robot. Since Mata Nui and Teridax are much bigger than normal-sized people fighting below them, you can use the switching function to switch between Mata Nui and his normal-sized forces (well, you can have the main characters of the game help those good guys only because they too are normal-sized). After collecting the Golden Armor, use it to defeat Rahkshi. Then, having Mata Nui defeat Teridax. Characters in the storyline to play: Mata Nui, Tahu (with and without the Golden Armor), Takanuva, and Gresh. Enemies: at least Rahkshi of Heat Vision, Skakdi, and Skrall. Boss in the middle: Nektann (the being). Boss in the end: Teridax. 12. 2011 - Objective: Fight against Velika and other evil and opposing forces in order to protect people on Spherus Magna. This is based on the latest online serials, "Sahmad's Tale", "The Yesterday Quest", and "The Power That Be" in 2010-2011. This level would give each of the latter two serials endings since they got discontinued in 2011. Characters in the storyline to play: the heroes and protagonists in the serials, including Sahmad, Telluris, Metus, Gelu, the Skakdi Fusion, Orde, Chiara, Zaria, Lewa, Kopaka, and Pohatu. Enemies: Various, including animals in Bota Magna, Vorox, Zesk, Kestora, the Sisters of the Skrall, Dark Hunters, Bone Hunters, Skrall. Bosses in the middle: Krabua, the Sisters' leader, Annona, Kestora's leader, Atakus, Perditus, the Shadowed One, the Marendar, and the Element Lords. Boss in the end: Velika. 13. 2015 - Objective: Find the six Golden Masks of Power while fighting Skull Spiders. Then, go to the City of the Mask Makers, where you go find Ekimu's tomb while fighting against Skull Creatures. After that, go to the Forge and defeat Kulta the Skull Grinder to save the Mask of Creation from him. Characters in the storyline to play: the Toa Masters, Protecters, and Ekimu (with the Mask of Creation or that golden Protector Mask). Enemies: Skull Spiders and people who get possessed by them, Skull Warriors, and Skull Scorpio's. Bosses in the middle: the Lord of Skull Spiders, Skull Slicer, and Skull Basher. Boss in the end: the Skull Grinder (he would lose a little bit of health at first before he would wear the Mask of Creation to get tougher for the rest of the boss fight). 14. 2016 - Objective: Find the six Elemental Creatures (Ikir, Akida, Uxar, Ketar, Terak, and Melum) and the Golden Masks of Unity while fighting Umarak the Hunter and the Shadow Traps. Then, go to the Labyrinth of Control to find the Mask of Control while still fighting Umarak and the Traps. After that, protect the City from Elemental Beasts. Next, find and fight Umarak while fighting the Elemental Beasts that he summons to attack the player. After that, fight against and imprison G2 Makuta back to the Shadow Realm. Characters in the storyline to play: the Toa Uniters, their own Elemental Creatures (the Toa can combine with them), Ekimu (in normal and Toa form). Enemies, the Shadow Traps, Elemental Beasts, and probably Makuta's minions from the Shadow Realm. Bosses in the middle: Umarak (both Hunter and Destroyer) and the Toa Uniters' own Elemental Creatures (They ally with the Toa after the Toa defeat them). Bosses in the end: Umarak the Destroyer and Makuta. I know it's a lot, but if you think it's too much, then let's skip to the bosses at the end of their levels. Along the way, the main heroes of the game (the Toa Nuva, Takanuva, Gresh, Mata Nui, the G2 Toa, and Ekimu) observe the changes made by the machine in horror. The heroes do not like to look at these because these try to defeat the heroes in the storylines, and they know that the changes create untrue things, and they feel that the mysterious force that sent them to the inter-dimensional place could be responsible for the changes, and so they feel that they must stop it before it would be any more damage to their universes and their timelines. They also have conversions about their adventures and stories with them, and having feelings about them. Some of those who did not know about certain storylines learn about them, too. After the 14th level is completed, the portal to the 15th and final level is unlocked, so the heroes go to the level. After that, when the heroes arrive at the other side of the inter-dimensional place, they discover the machine and suspect that it is the one responsible for putting them in the inter-dimensional place in the first place and the dangerous changes. Plus, the machine is a mech, so it opened its cockpits, revealing Velika, G2 Makuta, and Von Nebula. The villains explain that they are the ones who created the machine and are responsible for changing the events in the past storylines. They also reveal their plan to use this to defeat the heroes and twist the timelines of the G1 and G2 universes and the universes themselves into their images to conquer the universes tyrannically. The heroes don't want this to happen, so they go to fight the mech, but it's giant and very powerful, so it's extremely hard for them to defeat it. However, they summon their allies to help the heroes. Here's how the 15th and final level goes: 15. Final level and exclusive storyline in the game - Defeat Velika, Von Nebula, and G2 Makuta's mech to save both universes and their timelines and storylines. The heroes' allies would be helping the heroes along the way. Characters in the level to play: the main heroes of the game (the Toa Nuva, Takanuva, Gresh, Mata Nui, the G2 Toa, and Ekimu and the Alpha 1 Team). Enemies: Every minion from all the 20 levels with all 20 past storylines (this is because the mech summons them to help Velika and Makuta and VN defeat the heroes). Boss: the mech (piloted by Velika, G2 Makuta and VN), which is the final boss of the entire game. The mech is very powerful, as it is giant, can summon the minions, teleport, fly, has six arms that can use giant versions of the villains' weapons (Velika's Power Carvers, G2 Makuta's staff and blades, and VN’s Black Hole Staff), shoot energy blasts, create teleporting black holes (VN), and use G2 Makuta's powers, which are Shadow and the powers of the Mask of Ultimate Power (Fire, Water, Jungle, Stone, Earth, and Ice). Along the way, while you are decreasing the mech's boss meter, the mech gets tougher, so the Toa Nuva combine into the Toa Nuva Kaita. The G2 Toa say that they wish to do form their own Kaita, so the Toa Nuva Kaita teaches them to do this while fighting the mech. The G2 Toa eventually learn how to form their own Kaita, so they go to help the Toa Nuva Kaita and the other heroes fight the mech. The level ends when the heroes work together to decrease the boss meter and defeat the mech. If I were to include Hero Factory and make the game a crossover game, it would be six levels in between the Bionicle G1 levels and the Bionicle G2 levels because I always like to think that it shares the same universe as G1 because of similarities. It’s 21 levels in total. 1. One of the HF levels would have the HF’s 2010 storyline (with VN as the main boss, his six henchmen as mid-bosses, and Mekron City robots as minions. Plus, mind-controlled Preston Stormer as a mid-boss). 2. One with the Ordeal of Fire storyline in early 2011 (with Fire Lord as the main boss and his three henchmen as mid-bosses), 3. One with the Savage Planet storyline in late 2011 (the Witch Doctor as the main boss and his mind-controlled Quatros animals as minions/mid-bosses). 4. One with the Breakout storyline in 2012 (the eight Breakout villains as mid-bosses and Black Phantom as the main boss. Plus, they would have minions). 5. One with the Brain Attack storyline in 2013 (the Brains and their mind-controlled slaves as minions, and Dragon Bolt and mind-controlled Surge as bosses). 6. One with the Invasion From Below storyline in 2014 (the Queen Beast as the main boss, the Flyer Beast and Splitter Beast as probably mid-bosses, and the other kinds of Jumpers as the minions). Ending of the entire game: After the heroes defeated the mech, they rescue Vezon from it, recover the Mask of Time, and use the mech to get rid of the changes in the past storylines. They then destroy the mech, causing it to explode and sending Velika and G2 Makuta to the inter-dimensional place. The heroes and their allies and Vezon are sent back to the G1 universe, where they celebrate their victory. Doing the celebration, a portal to the G2 universe appears. The G2 people say that it's time to go home. Before they do, the G1 and G2 heroes say that they would be going to encounter each of their universe's more own people (meaning that G1 having its own versions of the characters who are introduced in G2, like G1 having its own Ekimu, Protectors, Skull Creatures, Elemental Beasts, and Umarak. The same would go to G2 having its own versions of the characters who are exclusive in G1, like G2 having its own Toa Metru, Toa Mahri, Piraka, Barraki, Skrall, Bone Hunters, etc.). Then they say goodbye and thanks for helping each other save their universes before G2 people go to the portal to their universe. The celebrations continues in both universes. The End. During the end credits rolling, there are two mid-end-credit scenes. The first is where G1 heroes encounter their universe's own G2-introduced good-hearted people (the Protectors and Ekimu) and villains (including the Skull Creatures an Umarak) while the G2 heroes encounter their universe's own G1-exclusive good-hearted people (including the Toa Metru and Toa Mahri, probably HF heroes) and villains (including the Piraka and Barraki, probably HF villains). The heroes, along with their new allies that remind them of others from each other's dimensions, go to fight the new villains that also remind them of others from each other's universes. The second scene is where Velika, Makuta, and VN are trapped in the inter-dimensional place, and they see no way out of there while they are feeling upset (Imagine Makuta saying "This is worse than the Shadow Realm!" Lol. ). I'm also thinking there would be a third scene that would preview G3. In the game, the inter-dimensional place is the main hub place as there are two additional portals, one that can take you the G1 one and one that can take you to the G2 universe. It would be obvious that the G1 dimension has more stuff than the G2 one. In each dimension, you get to travel around, look for goodies of various, do people favors, etc. You can also come back to the levels to get more goodies, and the hub areas would include extra levels that are based Bionicle's and HF’s side stories, like the online serials. You can do all of these things to complete the game, like every other Lego Game of of this decade lately. Man, if that game could exist, it would and could win an award or at least have positive reviews and be called the best Bionicle video game ever (do you agree?). (Plus, it took me a few days to came up of this idea.) I know it's lot, but it's a game that I would like to imagine. Well, I may also be thinking some other made-up games, like: 1. Re-mastered versions of the Mata Nui Online Games and Voya Nui Online Game with new 3-D graphics, and where characters would look like that they are made of the CCBS system or some other modern building system of today. 2. A re-master on Bionicle Heroes where characters would look like that they are made of the CCBS system or some other modern building system of today. Plus, remove the glitches. Same with Bionicle: The Game in 2003. 3. A video game, probably a RPG kind, where you customize your own Bionicle character and then fight against enemies and bosses. 4. A re-master of that cancelled Bionicle PC game, Bionicle: The Legend of Mata Nui, where it can be released in either console or handheld versions of many kinds, with new 3-D graphics, and where characters would look like that they are made of the CCBS system or some other modern building system of today. Plus, fix and add stuff in there. Good ideas, huh? So, there. What is your dream Bionicle video game? (P.S. Please don't say something like "this wouldn't happen or is it possible". We are just talking about video games, based on our imagination, that we would like to happen.)
  22. In terms of build, Toa Poraru is mostly a color-swapped Emperor clone with some minor changes, but this is deliberate since they're the same character, technically. Their torso may seem the most variant, but the structure is actually 100% the same, however instead of Armor Poraru just uses fabric to cover it up. One "non-canon" difference is that Poraru is one unit shorter - The Mata head limits posability when using a 3-length axle, but the neck looks comically long with a 4-length, however with the Emperor, I could use the cape to compensate. In Poraru's case, there is no cape and he'd look really stupid with a longer neck. However, "story-wise", Poraru and the Emprero are the same height. Backstory: Toa Poraru was once a completely ordinary and uninteresting Toa of Stone. He had some misgivings about the Toa code and sometimes was vocal about this, but other than this, he was a by-the-book Toa doing his duty. He and his Toa team protected their small village somewhere in a minor island of the Southern Isles. His life was entirely unremarkable until a few centuries before Teridax's uprising, a Makuta went mad on the Northern Continent (presumably due to a poorly conducted experiment) and went into a crazed rampage. The Brotherhood wanted to contain him, but were unsuccessful, and fearing a controversy, instead "lured" the Makuta southward. Poraru's team heard in advance of what was coming their way, and planned to intercept the enraged Makuta in a region far from their village. They succeeded in this endeavor, and together the six of them even managed to defeat the Makuta, however it was in a complete blood-rage and wouldn't give up. Poraru's suggestion to "put the Makuta out of its misery" was repeatedly rejected by the leader of the team citing the Toa Code. However, their attempts to contain the bestial creature failed, and after escaping, it headed straight for their village. By the time the Toa arrived, the village was in ruins and the Matoran massacred. This was the last straw for Poraru - the Toa Code which in the past had merely inconvenienced him, was now directly responsible for the death of those he swore to protect. Desiring vengeance, he set off to kill the Makuta, and was joined by two other Toa from his team who shared his views, while the other three remained and effectively exiled them. They tracked down the Makuta, and since they now fought to kill, their change in strategy caught him off-guard, allowing them to injure him severely. Alas, once again, their prey got away. In retaliation for the injury, it swing back to the ruins and ambushed the three Toa who refused to hunt him down. Blaming themselves for the death of their brothers, Poraru and the other two Toa swore to finally end the rampage of this crazed Makuta. On their third confrontation, thanks to the injury, they finally killed him - however only Poraru survived the conflict. Having lost any purpose in life, he began wandering about the Southern Isles. At one point, in a seedy inn, he overheard a boastful merchant from Stelt bragging about finding a source of Energized Protodermis which wasn't under the control of either the Brotherhood of Makuta nor the Hand of Arthaka. He "persuaded" the merchant to reveal the location of the font, and travelled there immediately. He knew that anyone coming into contact with energized protodermis is either killed, or, provided they yet have an unfulfilled destiny, changed. If he dies, so be it, but if this would give him a new purpose, all the better. Upon arriving to the cave, he was surprised to see that the merchant did not mislead him, and plunged into the pool. When he emerged, he saw his reflection on nearby crystal formations - he hadn't changed much, but the color of his armor was now black and silver. In his mind floated, ever present, two words - "Emperor" and "Unity". He was compelled to return to the site of his former village. On this journey, he began making some realizations. His control over Stone was gone, replaced by telepathic, telekinetic and teleconductive abilities. Then, he realized he can revert to his old form at will, and then his control over Stone returns at the expense of his new abilities. In dream, he realized his new purpose in life was to achieve absolute Unity across the known world. For this, he'd need followers. During his journeys, he sought out disenfranchised warriors, exiled Toa, former Dark Hunters and any other beings who would follow him. They returned to his old home and founded the United Southern Empire. Planning his expansion, a single problem constantly returned - Metru Nui. He hadn't the military force to conquer it, and it would never join the Empire willingly so long as it was governed by a Turaga and overseen by a Makuta. If he'd push northward gradually, annexing and conquering smaller lands and working his way up, they'd make note of the threat and send an army of Toa against him. However, he had one advantage - everyone who knew he once broke the Toa code was dead. As far as Metru Nui was concerned, Poraru was still Toa Poraru. And thus the plan was born - he alone would venture north, while his lieutenants would continue the conquest of the south. He, as Poraru, would infiltrate the Toa order, while as the Emperor would gain the support of other factions, so that unwittingly all players in the north would further the imperial cause. His plan was upended by Teridax's uprising against the Great Spirit, and during his Reign of Shadows, the Emperor fought alongside the Toa Resistance against Teridax's forces, all the while ensuring the secret of Poraru and he being one and the same didn't get out. When Teridax fell and Spherus Magna was united, the Emperor led his people to a new home, from which they would endeavor to unite this new world. Flickr Album: click here. 23. Note that I will be starting from Lehvak-Kal, since that was my first BIONICLE set. I will also say I am not avoiding Bias. For obvious reasons, I am going to consider Small Sets, Canister Sets, and Large Sets to be separate as much as possible, though this will be hard for Hero Factory because of its inconsistent numbers of small sets and canister-sized sets per wave. Notably, for the first few waves it's going to be matters of preference even moreso. GENERATION 1 2003 (The Bohrok-Kal and the Search For The Mask of Light) The Bohrok-Kal: Lehvak-Kal. Why? Because it was my first BIONICLE set. While I may have been a year late to experience the original Bohrok, if it were not for Lehvak-Kal I wouldn't even be here writing this right now. The Rahkshi: Lerahk. Because of all the colours I prefer green the most, and there isn't much difference between the Rahkshi besides colour, spine, and staff. They're all like 70% grey too, not helping matters. The 2003 Large Sets: Makuta, I think. Takua and Pewku and Jaller and Gukko I took apart like instantly for no reason at all. Even if Makuta did have the habit of having his head fall off, he was still the Makuta. 2004 (Metru Nui) The Toa Metru: They may have a lot of grey, but they are a bit more varied - and I would say Matau wins here. Because you can put his Aero Slicers on the back and they become wings, which is better than simply storing them on the back like Onewa or Nokama. The Vahki: Vorzakh, I guess. They fall into the same trap as the Rahkshi, except they don't have spines to differentiate them this time. The Metru Nui Matoran: I dislike Ehrye, he has a stupid face. I dislike Nuhrii, he also has a stupid face. I'm going to go with Orkahm, who in another universe caused a jungle to burn down. The 2004 Large Sets: I was so excited to get Nidhiki... but Nidhiki loses out to Lhikan and Kikanalo. Moreso for the Kikanalo than for Lhikan, but the Kikanalo is, IMO, easily the best titan G1 BIONICLE had at that point: 13 points of articulation not counting the tail, with a solid build that would be emulated once more in Skirmix five years later. Lhikan's cool too, nice weapons and function for them. 2005 (The Visorak Horde) The Visorak: Finally, a villain wave that doesn' have grey or silver as a secondary colour across every single set! Not only that, but the (re)start of a bit more variety across sets, with sets like Oohnorak having Bohrok arms instead of slizer arm piece. The Visorak are honestly underrated for what they are - they are leagues better than the Vahki, and if I had no bias, the Bohrok-Kal as well. I'm tempted to say they're better than the Rahkshi too. The Toa Hordika: Let's judge the Hordika, who had a tough act to follow in the Visorak: Uh. For the first time, the Toa sets completely fall into the same trap as the 2003-2004 villain sets. There's not much variety here, so it comes down to preference and I'm going to say Matau or Nokama, as they have the best Hordika heads. Though I suppose I cannot hate on the wave that gave us Hordika necks. Still... probably among the worst waves of G1. The Rahaga: Not much variety here either so I'm going to say Iruini. The 2005 Large Sets: I don't particularly like any of these, but if one has to come out on top... Sidorak. Keetongu is a bit awkward and Roodaka is... Roodaka. The Toa Hagah: Put it simply, these should have been a full wave and should have been the Toa for 2005. I'm going with Toa Iruini here merely because the nuva armour on Norik's shoulders looks a bit awkward on the double socket piece compared to the Metru armor. 2006 (Voya Nui) The Piraka: BIONICLE got edgy. We were gifted the greatest music to grace this earth, and we got the Piraka. Also a bunch of colours that were literally never used again. I'm going to go with Avaktan. The Toa Inika: Ah, the arrival of the from-then-on omnipresent Inika build, and the Piraka build following suit... it's a shame about them having the worst heads in all of BIONICLE (related, can Constraction sets please use a head for more than two years lately? From Glatorian to Brain Attack to Beast to G2 heads, I wish there was a head that was compatible with all masks and helmets). I'm going to pick either Kongu or Nuparu, although I think the Kongu/Jaller/Hahli Inika torso armour is far nicer looking than the Nuparu/Hewkii/Matoro torso armour, which IMO is just a bit on the ugly side) The Voya Nui Matoran: These Matoran were a year ahead of their time, because they had different builds. That was such a huge thing, no wave had really had this level of variety before - while they generally all used a Bohrok foot as their base torso (except Kazi, who used a hordika lower arm and is the worst of them), they used it somewhat differently. It's either got to go Balta or Piruk, and I can't really decide. Velika and Garan shared a nice build too. There needs to be a special mention of their combiners - easily among the best in G1 and HF and G2, especially the Lava Hawk. Gonna ultimately go with Piruk. From now on, it gets much harder to decide, because: there are less clones. And that's huge. The 2006 Large Sets: Brutaka. Already decided, without a doubt, Brutaka. However, 2006's large sets were IMO so much better than almost every large set that came before them - they were much more solidly constructed and less awkward looking than titans like Krekka, Keetongu, or Makuta. Brutaka exemplifies this, I think, and is an exemplar of G1 titan design. There also needs to be a special mention of the Kardas Dragon and Botar, although Botar looks more awkward than I remember. (remember when Botar was killed off only to be replaced immediately by Botar but not Botar? 2007 (Mahri Nui) The Barraki: The Barraki - I love the Barraki. I think they're among the best villain sets in all of G1, if not all of BIONICLE, and if not that then all of constraction. They have so much variety and only two of them resorted to using standard Inika or Piraka builds (Carapar and Kalmah respectively). The best set, I think, would have to go to Ehlek or Takadox, who I would say exude such individuality and uniqueness that no villain before them had. Plus, you can pose Takadox as a chicken. I think I'd have to give it to Ehlek though. I like green, have you noticed? The Toa Mahri: While not as good as the Barraki, the Toa Mahri were decent. Hewkii Mahri already loses though . So does Nuparu Mahri - I recall he had problems standing up, and I even made a topic ten years ago called 'Nuparu Mahri's leg problem'. After eliminating those two, and then eliminating Kongu and Matoro Mahri, I end up with Jaller and Hahli Mahri. I am going to give it to Jaller Mahri for not having lime green joints, having some unique and good-looking torso armour, and a very nice-looking mask. Also, the Hahnah crab! Who can forget that? The Mahri Nui Matoran... and Hydruka: 2007 is bizarre in that it only had 4 small sets (just as bizarre as 2003's small sets releasing during the summer). I can't really compare the Matoran to the Hydruka, and there's only two of each. Defilak, I think, is easily the better Mahri Nui Matoran, having more green than Dekar does yellow. I also like the Kualsi as a mask much more than the Kiril. As for the Hydruka... Thulox, wait, no, Thulox is the red one. Morak! Morak is the blue one. Morak glows in the dark. Still, why did they even exist as sets? They showed up for one page in a book while characters that had slightly bigger roles like Gar and Kyrehx didn't even get sets. What? The 2007 Large Sets: I don't particularly like Hydraxon. Gadunka is Gadunka. I do, however, quite like Nocturn, as well as Maxilos and Spinax. Nocturn has a really nice colour scheme while I don't quite like Maxilos that much, but rather Spinax - Spinax is basically a four-legged Barraki. Gotta go with Nocturn because without Maxilos Spinax is just a dog-thing. 2008 (Karda Nui) The Phantoka: I have to praise whoever came up with having the waves be split between the Toa and Makuta. That was such an exciting idea for me at 12 years old when my interest in the BIONICLE story was growing. And, honestly, I already know I'm going to give this to Vamprah - Vamprah, like Ehlek and Takadox before him, is easily the most individual and unique of all the Phantoka. The Toa use too much grey - it would be fine if it had been silver (brighter and shinier and would have resulted in more consistency with the Mistika), but grey is just dull. Vamprah pulls off that bat look so well. The Mistika: Krika. Summer 2008 was a really toxic time for BIONICLE fans, who went so far as to call the Mistika 'Mistaka' (Mistake-a). That was pretty immature, I think. They're not the worst things in the world when you consider the Hordika exist. Krika was easily the best of the wave, though. Same reasons as Vamprah, Ehlek, and Takadox - the uniqueness. Runner-up is Onua, because he's the best canister Toa in 2008. And people hated Gali Mistika. The Karda Nui Matoran: The Karda Nui Matoran unfortunately simplified things a lot compared to the Voya Nui or Mahri Nui Matoran. I'm going to give it to Radiak just because Radiak is the best looking and most unique. The 2008 Non-Vehicle Large Sets: Icarax vs Takanuva. Takanuva wins easily, and is up there as one of the best G1 titans, in stark contrast to a later set that would borrow from his build. The 2008 Vehicle Sets: The Rockoh is a flying brick. The Axalara is a bigger, better flying brick (significantly better looking too). Vultaz's speeder is a flying stick. Toa Ignika's board is a basically a series of flat technic parts and the actually interesting part is Toa Ignika. So it's up between Mazeka and the Jetrax T6. I'd say the Jetrax wins, but Mazeka had a really unique vehicle and method of firing zamor spheres. 2009 (Bara Magna) The Glatorian: I love the Glatorian, and it's hard to choose which one is the best - by this time, the set designers couldn't rely on the exact same Inika/Piraka build (the piraka torso pretty much vanished) so they came up with some different ideas to utilise in the Inika/Piraka build. You have Gresh, who had the raised chest piece and lime claws as armour. You had the Skrall and Strakk, who used a technic piece to attach the inika torso at a different angle, creating a very different look. You had the Vorox, a more bestial looking set with a flipped Inika torso and the return of tan. You also had Tarix and Malum, but they weren't as exceptional. Ultimately, I would say it comes down to the Skrall and the Vorox - they are both aesthetically some of the best-looking sets I think. The Black and Red of the Skrall works very well, but so does the Black and Tan of the Vorox. They also had the same new piece of armour, which was very nice and made a resurgence in the Uniters last year - it's a very nice looking piece. Ultimately I am going to go with the Skrall, but if I was in a different mood it would have been the Vorox. There is a reason I hosted a game on Bara Magna. The Glatorian Legends: Ironically, I think the Glatorian Legends are, as a whole, slightly worse than the Glatorian. Still, Ackar blew people's minds with the return of Mata Red as a primary colour, and Mata Nui in set form was a big deal, and people complained about how shiny gold he was in a preview for The Legend Reborn. Ackar and Gelu were your standard Inika builds, while Vastus had a flipped Inika build and I remember people considered him a bit fat. I also got chastised for calling him Vastus once even though the context was pretty clear, but that was on a completely different forum. Stronius looked pretty good, although I think he would have benefited by having mata red as a secondary colour like the normal Skrall - also very brutish looking, which is good. Kiina had a fairly custom build, although it was somewhat oddly small and made Kiina look really lanky due to how long her limbs were in comparison. (SIdeways triple-length double socket + Rahskhi legs (among the longest = very long legs and arms). You know, it was pretty sad we didn't get t osee more of that sideways triple socket piece. The Agori: Raanu is ugly, so he's disqualified. Metus looked pretty decent, but it has to go to the Zesk. The Zesk looks much better than the rest of the Agori. Berix looks fairly decent, but it still has to go the Zesk. The 2009 Non-Vehicle Large Sets: Skirmix. Toa Mata Nui is... well, Toa Mata Nui. Should've been the giant robot as a set instead - that would have also justified including the gold ignika. Tuma is fairly decent looking, but I feel his colours aren't as good as the normal Skrall. Skirmix on the other hand is good by virtue of being almost exactly the same as the Kikanalo from 2004. Also, I can't believe I just realised Rock Steeds are basically dinosaurs. The 2009 Vehicle Sets: The Baranus instantly loses due to being somewhat awkward in nature. But I think the vehicles in 2009 are, as a whole, much stronger than 2008's. The Cendox is without a doubt the best 'small' vehicle (Lesovikk's Sea Sled is easily the worst), with a really good and eye-pleasing build and colours. The Kaxium splits in two, so there's that. The Thornatus is a solid build with a lot of tan and definitely isn't a Jetrax with wheels, and the Skopio has a fairly solid build that's both a vehicle and a walker thing. However, I'm going to eliminate the Kaxium for its sidecar not being anywhere near as good looking as the main part, and the Thornatus for leaving slightly too much uncovered. The Skopio is kind of awkward to pose, so that leaves the Cendox. The Cendox also wins out among all of the vehicles. 2010 (Journey's End) The BIONICLE Stars: No. However - at least they iterated on the Agori build, by adding armour and being a slight bit more inventive. If I have to choose? I'll choose the worst, and that's Takanuva. HERO FACTORY 2010 (Rise of the Rookies) The 1.0 Heroes: The Heroes are basically the Av-matoran build in disguise, except with leg and torso armour now. I only ever owned Bulk, but the non-rookies had the problems of nearly immovable gun-arms, so I won't choose them. I'll go with my loyalty to green and say Breez. Though, to be fair, the 1.0 hero build is a significantly nicer aesthetically than the Av-Matoran build.] The Villains: Meltdown, without a doubt. I'll say it again: the same reasons as Krika, Vamprah, Takadox, and Ehlek: he just has a lot more individuality and personality than the others. thanks to the 'radiation mutation' theme and tentacles and mantax claws and head and general build.. XPlode is a runner-up - the slizer arms I thought would be awkward but I feel they add quite a bit to the personality of the set combined with the grin of the helmet. There was also Thunder, who used a shade of silver that was literally never used again. And I suppose there was also Corroder, who I almost forgot because he was so boring. The Large 2010 Sets: It's either Rotor or Von Nebula and I never owned either. I did own the Furno BIke, and that sure was a bike alright. I can't really judge here but I'd say Von-Nebula. 2011 (Ordeal of Fire and Savage Planet (speculation: Savage Planet used preliminary designs for Bota Magna from BIONICLE, so as to not waste them) The 2.0 Heroes: Move aside, CCBS has arrived! This marked a big shift in constraction, and the 2.0 heroes were pretty much just a test of the system. It was quite exciting to see, but BZP was down at the time (thanks datacylsm). Of all the 2.0 heroes, I liked Evo the best. Evo looked really good and had a really nice looking weapon. Surge would be a runner-up because he had a sniper rifle. That's literally the reason. The Ordeal of Fire villains: Jetblast is a weird name but Jetblast looked a lot better than Drilldozer and somewhat better than Nitroblast. The 3.0 Heroes: Basically the 2.0 heroes but with an animal theme instead. The problem with this is the transparent green shells they had... Bulk 3.0 I think looked pretty good. Then again, I only owned Bulk 3.0 and Nex 3.0. The Savage Planet villains: Waspix beats out Raw-Jaw, who beats out Fangz. (They're also going to be wildlife on Bota Magna, shhh) But, I think they all did a fairly good job of showing non-character builds and creature builds instead. The 2011 Large Sets: Fire Lord is immediately at the bottom. Not a good introduction to CCBS titans. Witch Doctor is at the top instantly. Scorpio and Rocka XL are in the middle. Savage Planet's large sets did a much better job of not being bad, and Witch Doctor is still held up as one of the best CCBS titans. 2012 (Breakout) The Initial Breakout Wave, Canister-Sized: The canister-sized sets of the initial breakout wave were Furno, Rocka, Breez, and Splitface. I only owned Breez and Rocka, and I never really liked Rocka's helmet. Splitface was a pretty cool idea, all things considered, but I have to give it to Breez. Breez had some nice colours. (Story-wise, I have to wonder how heroes felt about being random sizes.) The Brain Attack torso piece is also one of the best CCBS torso pieces IMO, detailed enough but not too detailed. The Initial Breakout Wave, Small Sets: Evo, Toxic Reapa, Jawblade, Surge, and Thornraxx. It's gotta go to Thornraxx, hasn't it? Thornraxx was just so creative with the build and really manages to look like a giant stinging insectoid creature, with Jawblade as a runner up. The Second Breakout Wave, Canister-Sized: Core Hunter, Bulk, and Voltix. It has to be Core Hunter- Core Hunter is one of the best HF villains without a doubt. Surprisingly dark, too, and black and red is always a good colour combination. It really works here. I always put those HF core things with the writing on them on Core Hunter's... bandolier thing. Bulk is a clear runner up, and is definitely one of the best Breakout heroes - especially the fact he has a giant gun-thing mounted on him and a load of armour and a nice colour scheme. Voltix on the other hand was a mess of colours. Also I still see him sold by LEGO on amazon even now, five years later. The Second Breakout Wave, Small Sets: Nex, Stringer (RIP both), and XT-4. XT-4 gave us the small torso, and that's an important piece. Stringer has a guitar and sound armour pieces. Nex has a fairly awkward look. Honestly can't decide and I tell you the coin says I have to give it to XT-4 for having four arms before it was cool. Overall Breakout Canister Set and Small Set: For canisters, Breez, followed by Core Hunter, followed by Bulk. Fore small sets, Thornaxx followed by Jawblade followed by XT-4. The Breakout Large Sets: Black Phantom, Stormer XL, and Speeda Demon. I own Speed Demon and Black Phantom but not Stormer XL. It has to go to Black Phantom for making Fire Lord's build look significantly better with just a few alterations. Stormer XL... why did Stormer have a bike? 2013 (Brain Attack) The Initial Brain Attack Wave, Canister-Sized: Literally just Pyrox, Bruizer, and Ogrum. Bruizer got a lot of hate for having a fairly awkward technic mechanism. Ogrum had brown and Metru Green. Pyrox had Metru Red. I will go with Pyrox solely because Pyrox is a minotaur and has a small if ineffectual function. The Brain Attack villains suffer from brains, making their masks useless without them. The Initial Brain Attack Wave, Small Sets: Rocka, Bulk, Breez, and Scarox. I have no idea what Scarox is meant to be. Rocka looks fairly boring with a borind shield, while Bulk looks slightly more interesting with his drill. Also flick-fire missiles for some reason. You know at this point I might as well just say 'guess' and you'd probably guess it right as Breez. It should be obvious by now that I tend to prefer the green sets. Breez also had a much more interesting weapon and buzz-saw shield than Bulk or Rocka, so that helps too. The Second Brain Attack Wave, Canister Sized: Surge, Stormer, and Frost Beast. Stormer has a fairly awkward-looking shield and flick-fire missile system. It has to go therefore to Surge or Frost Beast, and I'm going to say Surge because of wings and no brains. (As in the piece. Not, you know.) The Second Brain Attack Wave, Small Sets: Evo, and Aquagon. Okay this is getting ridiculous, I might have to merge some categories here. Evo is much better looking with a better weapon than Aquagon, so that's that. The trans-blue also complements Evo's yellow nicely. Overall Brain Attack Canister Set and Small Set: For the canister set, Pyrox, follwed by Surge. For the small set, Breez, followed by Evo. The Brain Attack Large Sets: Furno XL, Dragon Bolt, and Jet Rocka. Jet Rocka had no reason to exist when Nex and Stringer had no representation in Brain Attack while Rocka already did. Screw you Jet Rocka. Furno XL is kinda weird. It has to go to Dragon Bolt, who even had a function. 2014 (Exo Force Invasion from Below) The Initial Invasion From Below Wave, Canister-Sized: It has to be 'FURNO' Jet Machine without a doubt. Stormer Freeze Machine is kind of awkward and Rocka Stealth Machine does not look stealthy because mechs aren't stealthy. Flyer Beast vs Breez is a good runner up though, I remember the combiner that made with Jaw Beast was surprisingly good. The Initial Invasion From Below Wave, Small Sets: Jaw Beast. Definitely Jaw Beast. Evo Walker was... just decent. Jaw Beast was very good looking. The Second Invasion From Below Wave, Canister-Sized: It has to be Crystal Beast vs Bulk. So much transparent pieces. Least that's how I remember it. The Second Invasion From Below Wave, Small Sets: Tunneler Beast. Tunneller beast is a very good set. Good colours. Overall Invasion From Below Canister and Small Sets: Furno Jet Machine, followed by Crystal Beast for the Canister sets. For the small sets, Tunneller Beast. GENERATION TWO 2015 (Mastery/Skulls) The Large Toa: Tahu. Tahu. Tahu. Tahu, Master of Fire looks so good. I've always found Onua's super wide chest really awkward looking due to the way it makes him instantly super wide. Kopaka however is fairly decent, but suffers from a silver Brain Attack torso piece. Tahu has four swords, and you should always carry four swords because it makes your silhouette look awesome. Tahu's awesome too. The Smaller Toa: Could it be that I finally betray the colour green and point to Pohatu? Pohatu I think does that desert Toa of Stone thing pretty well and has those hoverboard boomerang things and a Guurahk Staff for some reason. Also burnt orange is one of the better colours stone has used. Tan and burnt orange with a bit of yellow I think should be the stone colours, bright enough to not be as dull as G1 Pohatu Mata/Nuva. The Skulls: Skull Warrior or Skull Basher have to take it here. Skull Warrior does the undead warrior thing really well and Skull Basher does the menacing undead with axes thing well. It's got to go to Skull Warrior, because Skull Warrior just looks cool. Skull Grinder is fairly cool too. The Lord of Skull Spiders is a much better function-based set than Skull Scorpio. The Protectors: Fire and Ice suffer from having no elbows. The others don't, and I like both the Protector of Jungle and the Protector of Stone. Ultimately, I think I will reaffirm my loyalty to the colour green and say the Protector of Jungle is the better of the two, because of their vibrancy and bow instead of giant tuning fork. 2016 (Uniters/Beasts) The Large Toa: This... this is hard. I like Onua Uniter a lot more than Onua Master, because Onua Uniter still looks strong and menacing without being anywhere near as awkward looking . Uniter Kopaka however is just so poseable, even if he has random bits of gold - and Uniter Kopaka has a really nicely-constructed sword. Uniter Onua also has a Gatling-Gun Drillhammer and that's an awesome weapon. (All the Uniters have fairly awesome weapons). I'm having a hard time deciding... I'll break my rules and say I like them both. Tahu lags behind because he still looks good without Ikir, but Ikir is required to make him look outstanding. The Smaller Toa: I return to my loyalty to green and say Lewa Uniter. Lewa Uniter I think manages to look thin and agile thanks to the use of the Vorox armour piece, even if that does result in some awkward poseability issues, and the weapons are very nice - spinny tonfa things, a nice throwback to Gresh except spinny thise time. I like Pohatu too because of his Vorox armour usage, it still carries the same feeling as his Master form, though there's a bit too much transparent neon green this time. Gali has the awkward orange vorox armour on her leg. But I generally prefer the Uniters to the Masters as a whole. I suppose Ekimu counts among these too, and so I'm going to say Ekimu instead of Lewa. The Beasts: Lava Beast, without a doubt. Lava Beast just looks so good very menacing, while I feel Quake Beast and Storm Beast don't quite match that. The Creatures: The Creatures are all really good, though I would say... Uxar. Big surprise. Uxar looks pretty good and insect-like. Akida is a close second as is Ikir. And there we go.
  24. Hi, guys! Celebrating Bionicle's 16th anniversary this month (Link: http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/24926-happy-sweet-16-bionicle-d/ )? Well, we know that Bionicle isn't here this year and a planned third year for G2 was cancelled, along with the entire G2. We are hoping that a G3 would come. If you guys don't want G3 to be badly-received like G2, I would say this: Lego would need time to make a G3 that would much better than G2 and would be as good as or better than G1. It would be like Spider-Man: Homecoming this year for how it is well-received compared to Spider-Man movies in 2002-2007 (aka Spider-Man G1 with well-received reviews) and 2012-2014 (called The Amazing Spider-Man, aka Spider-Man G2, with mixed reviews, and is very similar to how Bionicle G2 is like: http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/23229-bionicle-g2-and-the-amazing-spider-man-movies-are-alike/ ). Let's hope that Bionicle G3 is like Spider-Man: Homecoming (aka Spider-Man G3). Lego should know that the cancellation of Bionicle G2 may have upset Bionicle fans, like us, and there is no new well-received constraction line with an original story by Lego (Hero Factory is an example of that constraction line, but it has mixed reviews, I believe). We may need that kind of Lego line to satisfy ourselves, don't we? I feel that I don't have a hobby of building constraction sets this year because of the lack of the constraction line. Without that line, I feel that I have no purpose in buying constraction sets this year (Anyone feel that way, too?). Well, in order for G3 to be successful and Lego to make us happy that we would a constraction line with an original story by Lego, I made a hopefully-brilliant idea that I would like Lego to do for us: re-mastering Bionicle G1. When I think of re-mastering, I look at trailers about a Sonic the Hedgehog game called Sonic Mania and Sonic Generations. They improved the graphics from the first few games in the early 1990's. They never rebooted the story, they just improve the originals' looks while re-telling the story (Well, at least Sonic Mania is re-using levels from the originals, like the Green Hill zone from the first Sonic game in 1991). The same goes to Samurai Jack's Season 5 in this year, when they improved the show's animation while there is one episode where some stories from Seasons 1-4 are re-told with the new animation (Season 5 is for teenagers rather than kids, guys, but not too bad.). For the remastering in Bionicle G1, this would be a good idea if Lego would take a long time making a well-received G3 while we are waiting for a new constraction line with an original story by Lego. Re-mastering Bionicle G1 would mean re-telling the G1 story while improving the G1 sets into new better versions of themselves when the G3 is in development and before G3 would be made. For example, the Toa Mata's limbs are divided into two pieces literally, necks that can function like normal necks, having regular five-fingered hands, even-looking arms, and twisting waists. Lego would use new and old molds of the pieces to make this happen. There could be some new things for G1, like a TV show and/or a video game or more to better re-tell it to new Bionicle fans. CCBS would work, but it's very different from G1's building systems. But still, it might work in modernizing the G1 sets. Plus, it would be a good birthday gift for Bionicle's 16th anniversary. Anyway, think how Sonic Boom, a Sonic the Hedgehog TV show and spin-off series, happened in 2014-now when Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces, coming this year, are in development since Sonic Lost World in 2013. I know that Sonic Boom is not the best thing in the Sonic franchise, but it's a filler to keep patient fans happy before releasing this year's new games. If you need a stronger example, try watching YouTube videos that compare and contract the old versions of the first few Crash Bandicoot games in the late 1990's and the new re-mastered versions of them in a new game called Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy, which came out a week ago. I am not interested on the Crash Bandicoot franchise, but I think it best shows what I mean. Basically, the new game re-tells the old stories from the old games while improving the animation in them. That's also what I meant. I would like the re-mastering of Bionicle G1 to happen at least 2018 or next year or so. Lego wouldn't have to re-tell all of the G1 years before G3 would begin. The re-mastering would just be a filler for Bionicle's new absent years after G2, like how Hero Factory did for Bionicle after Bionicle G1. Plus, it may help bring the golden age of constraction again, like Bionicle G1 had, so we wouldn't be sad about the dark age/Great Depression of constraction that we are having this year (Link: http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/24467-the-dark-agegreat-depression-of-constraction/ ). So, there. What do you think, guys? Think it would be an excellent idea? Well, we do love Bionicle, after all, and it's our favorite constraction line, after all.
  25. The system based playsets Lego added to the Bionicle lineup in 2005,06 and 07 are pretty divisive among fans as far as I've gathered, and many seem to outright dislike them. I have some gripes with them, but overall feel like they were pretty cool and a nice way to shake things up from pure constraction. I feel the larger playsets managed to get things right while the smaller ones were those which suffered more. The largest sets of each year were undoubtedly the best each time in my opinion, but not solely because of their size. The playsets were also the source of some exclusive recolors in 2005 and 2007. In spite of the static "minifigs", I think the 2005 playsets worked the best, and the ones in 2007 were possibly the least appealing due to the overly similar designs and oddly made minifigures, however the recolors were pretty fantastic. The way the parts selections of each year blended system with constraction was nice to see and made the sets good parts packs even if you personally weren't a fan of the concept. One particular gripe I had with 2006 is that every single playset had at least one, but usually multiple, Kanohi Rodes and the Olmak was also common. These masks were the masks of titan sets Axonn and Brutaka, and I felt that as titan masks, they should have retained some measure of "exclusivity" to make them feel, I don't know, worthy of titan sets, and having them seemingly littered throughout the playsets cheapened that effect. I'd say The Battle For Metru Nui was my favorite of them all, it had some great features and the Kahgarak's golden visorak shell was welcome - I also ended up using the large Hau mask-gate thing for a costume some years later. The playsets were an interesting experiment, and while many consider them failures, I don't think a three year run constitutes that much of a "failure", and I enjoyed them for what they were. If I were to suggest improvements to them, I'd say 2005 would have benefitted from poseable minifigs, and if the prototype Tower of Toa set was kept instead of the final version - Metru-build Keetongu FTW. In 2006, I would have included fewer Rodes and Olmaks and offered some exclusive recolors like in 05 and 07, and would have included one set in the Ignika chamber with a Vezon minifig and a mini-scale Fenrakk. In 2007, I would have preferred more structures and fewer vehicles, such as a brick-built depiction of Mahri Nui (the settlement, I mean) and the shrine for the Ignika as seen in the "Creeping in my soul" trailer. Thinking back though, I would have loved to see playsets from the 01-03 era on Mata Nui, as well as the non-ruined Metru Nui from 04. Mata Nui has some beautiful locations and landscapes which, granted, wouldn't be as evocative as in the MNOG games, but seeing a brick-built Ga-Koro, Kini Nui or Le-Koro is still something I yearn for (I know MOCs exist, but still). What are your thoughts on playsets? What did you like, and what would you improve on them?
