Life Update

Okay, so just a quick update about how things are going with me, because it's been a long few days. Clearly, there's the topic of my last blog post. It hit me pretty hard, but I've been feeling better as of late. I'm not gonna discuss it here because a. I don't really want to and b. there's not much to say. It's been a while since I posted the "Love" blog post, and a lot has happened since then. Quick recap: early this year, I fell in love with someone and was confused as to whether she shared my feelings or not. Turns out that she did, and we've both acknowledged that we love each other. We're not "dating" as such right now; on my part, I think that's because I'm sort of uncomfortable with actually going into a legit relationship, and plus a lot is going on in my life with school and extra-curriculars. However, I enjoy having someone that I love and that I know loves me. It's nice having a special person. =D School has ramped up. I'm taking two AP classes with another next semester, two Honors classes, and a regular class. Five classes sounds relaxing but as of late I've found myself swamped with homework and studying, even though it's only the third week of school. I feel like we should have been eased into school a little bit more? So the stress has been very present in my mind and it hasn't been particularly fun. On the gaming side of things, I finally got my dream UNUSUAL in Team Fortress 2 this summer: a Sulphurous Western Wear. It may not seem like much, but I like it quite a lot, and it goes along with my Professional Killstreak Southern Hospitality quite well (it's Manndarin/Hypno Beam). In terms of the VICTORY RUN... I hit a bit of a problem. I have completed the game on Normal difficulty with every ship except for three: the Type C for Mantis, Zoltan, and Stealth Ships, which IMO are the most broken ships in the game. So I've taken a bit of a break from that and have yet to return to it. I bought Skyrim and its DLC during the Steam Summer Sale. SO MANY QUESTS SO LITTLE TIME it's a very fulfilling and fun game though, despite having a few flaws. And finally, Pokemon. Yesterday, I finally caught my first SHINY POKEMON! It's a shiny Riolu, which has 3 perfect IVs because I caught it in the wild (it's part of the Undiscovered Egg group). I was able to get it through the PokeRadar; I chained Riolu up to 40 and got a shiny patch after a few resets of the Radar. It was tedious but totally worth it. I don't get why shiny Riolu/Lucario gets so much hate; I quite like them. Well, that's all for now. Stay safe everyone.
3. I have a few. 1) Looking snazzy Nah. That one never gets old. 2) Research (finding information) Real Life: *goes to scholarly article database* *and wikipedia* *and wades through a whole bunch of questionable sources on Google* *finally just decides to find a book* *except there are ten dozen of those...* BZPower: BS01--> Greg Dialogues or official story sources.---> Done (zip). 3) Citing sources/quoting people Real Life: (parenthetical citation) [...]Author, Source. "Article Title." Website Title. Publisher or Sponsor, 1 Jan. 2010. Web. 30 July 2014.BZPower:
quote is here
4) Publishing fiction 5) Talking to yourself 6) Spending time with people (in general) 7) Stealing stuff Do you have more? What do you think of these? Go!
4. Welp, I'm pretty close to prepared for Brickfair. Got my clothes, MOCs, name badge, and art all packed up. MOCs I'm exhibiting this year include Caitlyn Gauss XL, Delwyn Buckler, Blacktron Vivisector, Kit Martello, Hero Factory Canine Buddy, Rise of the Dread Colossus (submarine only — I had to borrow some of the Dread Colossus's tentacles for Delwyn's hair, so he's out of commission), and My Little Tahu. I think Delwyn Buckler and Caitlyn Gauss XL will probably be the most popular of those seven. As far as art is concerned, I will mostly be bringing the same collection of drawings I brought last year — sadly, I have not really made much cool new LEGO-related art since then. I'm registered for the BZPower parts draft and will also probably be bringing a hat or two for the Hatpile. A number of my BZPower friends who I spent time with last year (Lady Kopaka, Turakii #1 Lavasurfer, Toa Lhikan Hordika, and Cholie) will not be making it this year for various reasons, so I think a good portion of my time will be spent trying to make new connections both within the BZPower community and the larger AFOL community. I will also look at vendors to see if I can find anything that interests me. While packing, I came to the realization that I do not really have any light-colored LEGO T-shirts, except for old Brickfair T-shirts and a Barraki Kalmah T-shirt that is a little worse for the wear. So as with last year, I will definitely want to try buying some new LEGO-related wearables. I'll also be on the lookout for affordable CCBS parts and constraction sets. I got a steal on some pre-owned Legends of Chima constraction sets last year (basically half-off), and a bunch of useful CCBS parts the year before. This will be my first time staying at a hotel for Brickfair (in the past my family has always driven there and back each day), so that should enable me to take part in more evening activities, including enjoying the brand-new "World of Lights" (sadly, none of my MOCs are going to have any light-up features, though). Maybe a visit to the vendors could change that, if they happen to be selling LifeLites or something similar, but generally the MOCs I'm bringing aren't characterized by a lot of transparent elements. If you happen to be attending, come and find me! I will be wearing the same brick badge as the past two years, though it is larger than the one pictured and has more yellow (including a brick printed with my screen name, Aanchir). I should be spending a good amount of time at the BIONICLE table hanging out with the BZPower crew. That about covers it, I think! If you're also going to be at Brickfair, leave a comment so I'll know to be on the lookout for you!
5. BTW, Buescher Tenor looks like the one I attached, it's a photo I got off of the 'net. So I have something funny that happened: My band director shouted out for the Tenor Saxes to show where they were before he asked them to show something. So of course here's the reaction: Jump up and down and yell "HEY!" =P (This is why I am with the woodwinds, we're cool (minus the last few Alto Saxes). =P) Also my Metal Clarinet is finally getting repaired after a month of procrastination! =P
6. So. YEYEYEYEYEYEYEY BUESCHER TENOR IS GETTING REPAIRED. AND SO IS MY METAL CLARINET.
7. So. What do I do if the saxophone I found in the band room in May that I asked my band director to get repaired had an unforeseen problem. =P (it was missing a spring in the D Palm key, which explained a lot =P)
8. So I'll be a bit less active from now on due to band camp, which starts tomorrow. However the main point where I'm inactive will be the second week of it due to the fact it's from 8 AM to 8 PM.
9. Me: Hmm, you know, I never read it before... Do you know what Of Mice and Men is about? KK: Probably men and mice. Me: -insert 20 second I-give-up glare in his general direction- ... It's like pulling teeth with you... KK: GET OFF MY LAWN! ~Tekulo <3
10. Or both? (I don't think both is a responsible option.) Last year I went to BrickCon for the first time, and it was awesome. I saw friends I hadn't seen for years, met new friends, experienced a convention on the other coast and got to visit Seattle again after too long away. I even got to visit Oregon for the first time through Portland which was also really cool. I had been planning on going back, even getting a rewards credit card for redeeming a portion of a plane flight bill. But friends had been calling me to BricksCascade in March as well, in Portland. Slightly smaller, lots of prizes and free LEGO giveaways, plus the chance to visit another convention. It all sounds like great as to be expected. But with all the tugging, I haven't chosen a direction (aside from West and slightly North). Help! I am also considering skipping any of the plane travel and heading up to New York Comic Con in October. It sounds awesome, I know Sisen is going, and it'll be great to be engaged with all the LEGO stuff TLG has put there. -CF The other option is sticking on this coast and going to BrickFair in October, or BrickFair in January. Decisions decisions.

Millennials

The more I get out and meet fellow Millennials, the more I realize... We all have a bad case of pre-mature slouching.
12. So, finally, sophomore year is out of the way. Probably one of the most stressful years I've been through, but probably one of the most precious and generally happy years I've ever had. It had its ups and downs and was pretty eventful overall, both in terms of interactions with other people and self-discovery. I'm a different person than I was at the beginning of the year and I'm better off for it. More importantly, it means I can put my FTL: Faster Than Light VICTORY RUN into full gear. Meaning I'm going to try to beat the game on Normal difficulty with every ship in the game. So far, I've beaten it with: Kestrel Cruiser: Type A and B Engi Cruiser: Type A and B Federation Cruiser: Type A and B Zoltan Cruiser: Type A Stealth Cruiser: Type A and B Rock Cruiser: Type A and B Slug Cruiser: Type A Mantis Cruiser: Type A and B Crystal Cruiser: Type A and B I'm saving Type C's and the Lanius Cruisers until last because I have no idea how to play with that darned clone bay. I have too much time on my hands.

Hey, BZP community. I know I haven't done much for you, but I need a little help. I'm in love with someone. I feel like I was meant to be with this person. I don't know exactly why I feel this way, but I do. But there's a few complications. I'm pretty sure the person is not romantically interested in me. We're incredibly good friends (maybe best friends?) and I am pretty sure that at one point she did have feelings for me. It might be my generally low self-esteem talking, but I think that she doesn't anymore, possibly because I didn't realize my feelings for her until it was too late. Which is disappointing, considering that I probably had a much better chance of being with her then than I do now. I don't even know if I'm what she's looking for in a person anymore. Also, I don't really know what I'd do if I was in a relationship with this person. I've never been in an actual relationship as such before, and to be honest it's a little scary. I've never been the best at expressing my emotions, and I'm afraid that I would not be able to properly do so even if I was in a relationship with her. Please, leave some comments below. They'd be greatly appreciated guys. <3
14. Well, I wrote this post once, then my Mac decided to go back a page and it deleted it all. But I've found in the past that when I've written something and it gets deleted, I'm able to write it better the second time. So here goes. It will probably still involve a lot of jumping around and an explosion of questions and ideas, but should be a little more organized. So, we know that if an Av-Matoran (specifically, Takua) puts on the Mask of Light, he/she becomes a Toa of Light. But isn't this a little unfair, since they would essentially only have one power? For example, other Toa have basically two powers: their elemental power, then their mask power. But for Toa of Light it is only one. True, Light is a more powerful/godlike power, but still. But this brings up something else, relating to another Legendary (EDIT: well I just looked it up and apparently the Mask of Light isn't Legendary, so I guess I'll ramble on more about that below.) Mask. Before I go further, though, I'm going to make up a Matoran prefix for Life. Let's go with "Li". If, supposing such things as Li-Matoran existed (which, if you think about it, is completely reasonable, since there are Av-Matoran), a Li-Matoran put on the Mask of Life, would they become a Toa of Life? (This, also, seems like a somewhat unfair thing with only being one power, though Life is an EXCEEDINGLY powerful and godlike power.) This would also suggest that Toa Mata Nui was, in fact, a Toa of Life. BUT I'm going to go even further into this rabbit hole of hypothetical stuff. Since there aren't such things as Matoran of Shielding, Matoran of Illusion, etc. (or none we have seen so far, anyway), this would somewhat suggest that you don't have to be of the power/element/whatever that your mask is. Which would mean that it didn't have to be an Av-Matoran that put on the Mask of Light. Sure, there's "the prophecy" and all, but I don't care about that. So, if it doesn't have to be an Av-Matoran to put on a Mask of Light, then that would also mean that it wouldn't have to be a Li-Matoran to put on the Mask of Life. So could basically anyone become a Toa of Light or a Toa of Life? And I'm not even going to get going on why Legendary/Great (in the case of the Mask of Light) Masks turn Matoran into Toa. Never mind. I lied. I'm going to talk about that now. Why do they do that? Could it be that the Masks themselves are so powerful that it basically overrides the need for a Toa stone? Or is it essentially a Toa stone fused with a Mask? Also, if, let's say, Takua took off the Mask of Life, would he shrink back down to a Matoran? Or would he remain a Toa? Could another Matoran take the Mask from him and also become a Toa? Also, could (since not having a Mask on is conducive to unconsciousness) a Toa who has taken his Mask off (such as the ill-inspired Takua from above) put on a powerless Mask? What would that do? I'm fairly certain, however, that they could put on a Great or Legendary Kanohi and would gain its powers. Could a Toa put on pretty much every Mask, and therefore gain almost every power? AND what is so special about the Mask of Light that it can turn Matoran into Toa? It is grouped with the Great Masks (which also implies that there are multiple of the Mask of Light), but the others (as far as I know) aren't able to do that. And Bonesiii, you'd better not make a gigantic post quoting and answering every single one of these questions. I've got my eye on you. ^sorta joking but only sorta
15. So 2013 was a mixed bag for me. On the one hand, I've done an amazing amount of MOCing this year. Many of the MOCs I've created are ones I'm incredibly proud of. I've created some art, too, though not a whole lot, all things considered. I've gotten a job (albeit a temporary, part-time job I'd never have gotten without my mom pulling some strings). I had the time of my life at Cloudsdale Congress (which exposed me to the incredible brony music scene), attended lots of fun brony meetups both in Boston and my hometown, and got to meet some of my best friends from BZPower at Brickfair Virginia. But on the other hand, this year has been quite an ordeal. My latest semester at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston was... regrettable. It's clear to me now that going to this school was a mistake from the very beginning. It caused me trouble with my health insurance, created a soul-crushing level of anxiety, and made me feel further from achieving my dreams of being a LEGO designer than ever before. It's clear to me now that I do not have the skills to get a degree in Industrial Design, and it's possible I never will. And I hope and pray that these aren't essential skills for a career in that field, because if they are this dream will never become a reality. I've started getting counseling again to help me with this anxiety, and I honestly don't know how it's going. I haven't had nearly as much anxiety since I left Wentworth as I had when I was there, but that might be because I have neither school nor a steady job to keep track of. And counseling is expensive. Relations with my family have had their ups and downs. No huge fights lately, and the counseling has helped a bit when there have been fights, but I'm remaining wary. I have been getting help with my job search from the Goodwill Job Help Center, which thankfully doesn't cost any money, but I don't know how much it's helped me. I've gotten a number of interviews including several with Goodwill. None of them has resulted in a job. Rather, my job search has been a constant reminder that I'm not even qualified for the type of low-prestige retail work that most of my friends and family are either trying to get out of or happy to be done with. My brother has gotten a lot of great video games that have been able to entertain both of us, including the Phoenix Wright and Professor Layton series. I haven't played any video games in a long time. Playing video games just doesn't feel as rewarding to me as watching other people play them. It just creates more goals when I'm struggling to deal with the ones I've set for myself in real life. On one hand, this means my time can be spent on more social activities. On the other hand, it makes me feel sad that I don't have the level of commitment it takes to maintain a hobby like that. There is no romance in my forecast. As lonely as I feel sometimes, that's simply one more thing than I can deal with. There's a girl I really like, but she doesn't feel the same way about me. If I'm lucky we can just maintain our friendship, since I'd be happy to mean SOMETHING to her even if I never mean as much to her as she means to me. There have not been any other girls that I feel the same way about. Maybe one day that will change, but until a girl like that shows up I can't afford to be preoccupied with thoughts of romance when I'm still struggling to be a functioning adult. This entry makes it sound like the bad stuff really outweighs the good stuff, but it's not really like that. I have a family that has gone to great lengths to house, feed, and care for me since I am not prepared to house, feed, and care for myself. So getting a job isn't something that I need to do to survive, it's more about proving to myself that I can do it. I still have my Associate's Degree from Landmark College in Vermont, which doesn't seem to have helped me at all in my job search but at least demonstrates that my college experience hasn't been a complete disaster, and that I managed to overcome my learning disability in at least one key respect. I'm not strapped for cash, yet have managed to keep control of my budget, even in Boston where I needed to buy my own groceries. My reputation in the LEGO fan community remains strong, at least among people who have heard of me. And I've still managed to keep moving forward, even if it's not against the same steep odds that some of my peers have had to deal with. So yeah. The year has been one of ups and downs. But I will continue to hope and pray for the best for myself and the people I care for. Bring on 2014.

17. Often heard, especially in retail, like the bookstore where I work, is that giving a gift card seems "too impersonal." And that makes sense. If you know the person well, then, theoretically, you should know which book/game/CD/LEGO set/etc to get them as a gift. I helped a friend choose out a LEGO set for our friend, and I found something I know he didn't have but would enjoy. Other times, I might have, say, my brother's Christmas list, so know what to get him. But on the other hand, knowing exactly what they want can be tough. Often customers (especially relatives and family friends) don't know what someone has already read (for my example), or has a hard time pinpointing what to buy someone. When it's easy, great. When it's hard, I feel a gift card says you know the person well enough to shop at that store. Plus, in my case at least, receiving a gift card to someplace I shop frequently is great because it means I can buy stuff without expense to me. (Like when my parents got me a gift card to my comic shop for my birthday.) Point being, sometimes it's just as great giving someone a gift card and reliving a bit of their spending, or letting them choose exactly what they've been wanting for a while but haven't told anyone. -CF
18. In the College Life: Since the semester ended, I've started going to the gym and I lost around 10-15 pounds, and I'm able to lift up to 90 pounds on weights (yeah, it's not much, but "The journey of a thousand miles..." and all that). I worked my college Orientation, and I liked it for the most part. Somebody lost their key on the football field, so my buddy and I went searching for it (keep in mind that this was in the dark). We turned up nothing. Went back to the Residence Hall, chugged down a Mountain Dew, and searched for that key again (cuz I wasn't going to let my school to replace a lock and key). didn't find it. The next day/morning, it's found when one of the football players step on it. So, all was good. In My Regular Life: After working Orientation, I went shopping with my friend, and we ate at Friendly's afterwards. I talked with her about all the other blood-boiling stuff that happened during Orientation (which she tells me happens every year... Challenge Accepted (for 2014)). And shopping with her was surprisingly fun. We went to Barnes and Noble, and she helped me out in deciding which Star Wars book to get (Book of the Sith, or Imperial Commando). She helped me in going for Imperial Commando, and it's a pretty good read. Along they way, she had to go shoe shopping (her sandal was broken, and it only lasted two minutes (This is something worth bragging about: shoe shopping normally NEVER takes two minutes with anyone. It was sheer luck that we walked in, and instantly found the shoes). The Lone Survivor movie trailer has been released, and I'm already excited to see it. I'm preparing to go see it as a midnight release, and then a second time with friends. I have a friend that's moving to Connecticut, and I'm already making road-trip plans to visit her. I'm aiming for visiting during Thanksgiving, but I have to find somebody willing to drive for four hours (I'd do it, but I lack a license) to and from (unless we can spend the night somewhere). At the absolute worst, I will buy a bus ticket to where I need to go. Nothing will stop me from seeing my friend. Gaming: I have (finally) started getting into the Assassin's Creed series. It started off a bit slow (learning controls and such), but I liked it. My main complaint though was that there really much variety with saving the citizens (which I've heard is fixed in later games, so nothing to worry about there). I have 100% in Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare. Like the main game, it is so much fun. Television: I've only recently came across How I Met Your Mother. Why haven't I seen this show before? The first few episodes that I watch, and I end up loving the show (namely the episodes with Honey, Ted getting left at the altar, and Marshal and Lilly's House Warming Party). While I do like Big Bang Theory, no matter how hard I try to watch it, I need to watch it with friends. It's probably because I first started watching it with friends, And that's it for my life as of late.
19. Youtube huh, took long enough. Now I can link my OSTs and the like. Speaking of which: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtMXnr293zU My reactions to this development are also at the end of that video.

THE END OF AN ERA

My last shift at the coffee shop ended just an hour ago. The owners sold it, and the new owners decided they didn't need as many staff, so I was terminated. FEYRU It was really bittersweet saying goodbye. The place feels like home after working there for almost a year. I knew the menu backwards and forwards, could make every drink with one hand tied behind my back, and got to know dozens of regulars and their beverages of choice. I met a lot of great people and learned some valuable skills. Overall, it was a really amazing experience, and I'm sad to leave. But, as always, the best is yet to come.
21. Funny how many customers who I've never met assume I'm asking about their well-being and reply, "I'm good," when I'm merely saying "good morning" to them as they come into the bookstore. And by golly the amount of snark I repress could fill a swimming pool. (Or a book...hehe.) And no, we're not going out of business. (And even if we were, what are you going to do about it?) -CF
22. Inspired by real life, my imaginary friends in the IDES, and music from The Lion King. Under the Stars Out in Cameroon, John was entering his sixth year of service, building schools and homes for families. When he received the phone call, he remained silent, said "yes" several times, and then hung up. "Oh my God!" he gasped, and he let himself crouch down, with his elbows on his knees and one hand in his dusty face. He continued working, but didn't say anything to anyone. "Are you right?" asked Kate, sensing that not all was well with John. Whenever he was in a strained mood, everyone seemed to be able to know. How they knew, he wasn't quite sure, because he was never able to tell when others were not doing fine, but he was different. If this had been any sort of bad news, he would have lied and said he was fine, but he couldn't say that. "I can't talk about it now." They finished their day's work, spend time with their African friends, but John resigned early and started packing with some help of his friend Roger. "Still not talking?" said Roger. "John, your poker face is atrocious." John sat down upon one of his bags. There was very little energy in his movements, and he continued to avoid eye contact. He was withdrawn, not in the same place as Roger. When he talked, he sounded as if he was about to cry. "I've been off in Cameroon for six years...Things have felt so right, but my life is changing so much. I've been so lucky to have you as a friend all this time, and Kate. Have so much on my mind right now, and I don't know what it all means." Roger knelt down next to John. "Do you know where to start?" "My father's dying, Roger, and he's only fifty," said John. "I haven't seen him in six years." He began to cry, and Kate walked in. "The last conversation I had with him was an argument," continued John. "He told me I should go to college, but I thought that my calling was here. But I miss home. Most of all, I miss Mom. When my parents got divorced, I almost never got to see her. I only saw her once a month, and I never spent much time with her during my life except for when I was a little kid, about nine years old. I haven't had my childhood in a long, long time, and I always figured it would come back, because I would eventually find it and I could just have that one special moment with everyone in the family and all my old friends and that thing I had when I was young would be with me again, you know? Now I can never go back, because in order to have that I need my entire family there, and now my father's dying and I'm never going to have that relationship that I wanted, like I thought I was planning on returning to America in two or four years, a changed man, because it made sense. I thought he would see who I became, see the types of things I dedicated my life to, and he would be proud of me and love me for it, and my mother would love me because she always loves me, and I could have everything I always wanted, but - but..." John returned to crying and tears streamed down his cheeks. Kate sat next to him and held his hand. "John, I'm so sorry," she said. Then she embraced him. Roger joined in and turned it into a group hug centered around John. "I want to tell you so many stories about him," said John. "I know you can do that," said Roger. "You're the best person I know when it comes to telling stories. I'll listen to every word." They finished packing, and after a couple of days they talked with everyone there who knew them and explained why they had to leave. Since they did not have a car, they walked the whole way to Yaoundé. The hike lasted for a couple days, since they each had their own bags to carry. The second night, as they settled in an open field of grass, started a fire, and unfolded their sleeping bags, John looked up at the stars and thought about Heaven. "Grandpa, I know that I talk to you sometimes. I guess Dad's going to be there with you soon." Kate and Roger sat to his right, poking the fire with sticks. They talked somewhat, but most of all, they listened to John tell stories about his father. "And the thing is, I guess I'm just upset that he never got to know me," he said, answered by the distant, ever-present crackle of the fire. "He was never good enough for me when Mom wasn't there to support him, so maybe I thought that my relationship could never be so deep because it stopped feeling the way that it should have felt. I've spent the better part of my life hoping that everything would be perfect again and that I could have the family I had when I was a kid, or at least, that's what I always thought. I always thought it was actually running away, but now it seems the exact opposite. When I turned twenty, I suffered depression because I was growing, because I was shocked at how far away my childhood was, and I was in despair because my next birthday would never be eight or nine, and that the one moment that always stuck out to me, the one that my whole life seems to be centered around, could last fore..." He looked and saw Kate and Roger sleeping, the orange firelight illuminating their calm, peaceful faces. No longer aware, but still there for him. Maybe that one moment that was his entire life was behind him. Maybe his entire life was now in this moment. "God, make this last." 24601
23. Forges smolder in Ta Metru, Chutes still fly through great Le Metru, Towers still stand in Ko Metru, But ruin lurks beneath these last buttresses: The great webs encapsulate them all. City of the Dead …At our end in another Lost City… Metru Nui was more terrible deserted than when Matoran still dwelt there. When we found it, the stink of desolation was everywhere: ruined webs hung from every building; those that still stood. Rahi prowled the ruined city. We did not care. there was no world we could remain in. Earthquakes had scattered us, lawlessness broke us. All the while we suffered from the shadows--from the wars between the Makuta and Dark Hunters, from the oppression of the Makuta. We preferred the Rahi to the world we left behind. So we settled there, in the more intact parts of Ta and Ga Metru, as far from the Archives as we could, away from the regions where no Matoran dared enter for fear of the Rahi. Life has never been a utopia, and the bond of fear that held us all together in our travels began to disintegrate: The Matoran edged away from the Vortixx and Toa hardly treated them better than Skakdi--the Skakdi which they banished within a week of settlement. Voices were raised, blades were drawn, but in the end we had peace: hundreds were exiled to Onu Metru, which both they and we termed 'The Hole' and the Vortixx split into their own colony, but we had peace, bred from a time we would gladly forget, and we were content. But there was no way to escape the world outside. We had been there almost a month when we heard the deathly news; almost a month of peace before we heard that Rahkshi had been sighted at the border of Le and Ta Metru. We sent out a few brave beings to investigate: some returned, some didn't. Those that did related the sad facts: a group of over thirty Rahkshi were encamped in Le Metru. One reported of a black armored being leading them. A Makuta, or so they said. The leaders gathered for one desperate council: did we hide, fight, or flee. In the end we were won over by the zeal of Erazoth. There was no way to hide from a Makuta, and there was nowhere to flee to. We stood or we fell. So we stood. The noble Toa of Iron led all of us who could and would bear arms against that encampment while I sat with those who remained, waiting. It was almost night by the time we heard the clamor. Rushing to our fortifications, we were greeted by the sight of our warriors, waving Rahkshi staffs and shouting in their victory. The Makuta had fled, his forces were defeated and Le-Metru was deserted once more. We set up a system of scouts in Le-Metru to prevent another surprise. Perhaps some of us believe that such security would aid us. We should have known that we were still defeated. Even if we had killed the Makuta, our secrecy was shattered. Indeed it was only a month before our doom was spelled out. One scout brought us the news. A Le-Matoran faster than most, the only one of our scouts that survived, it had seemed. We listened in horror to his account. It was worse than a army of Rahkshi, much worse. Our island was being invaded by Visorak. The dreaded scourge, dispersed only a few years before, returned in great numbers. They were marching up through Le-Metru and into Ta-Metru, we had but a little time. We gathered once more in council, but this time we knew there was no hope. There were hardly six hundred of us, while the horde that approached through Ta-Metru was without number. But this time we were not unified: some proposed we hold our position, others that we simply retreat, perhaps defending an area like the Coliseum. Still others suggested we go underground, facing Rahi in the Archive tunnels rather than the Visorak. We never did decide a single plan. While all around us our followers packed their belongings and prepared to flee, we still debating. Time run short: Erazoth was bent upon holding, while we at last seemed to have agreed to retreat to Po Wahi. But there never was hope for an organized retreat. As our valiant Toa put up one last defense we fled, fled like Matoran are supposed to do. Some made it to Po Metru, others fled towards the Ta Metru coast. I am among those. And I, Turaga Norholk, still do not know what became of the rest. I only know of my small fragment, a hundred of us, mostly Matoran, who made it to here. May the Great Spirit have mercy on us all. The Situation Metru-Nui is currently once again oppressed by Visorak. Although their numbers are less than in their days of glory, their potency is not lessened: by their side, sometimes leading them and sometimes accompanying them are mercenaries of all sorts. Their goal is simple to most: secure the island and destroy all who resist. But upon the orders of their leader, Makuta Chirox, they have another duty: Secure the Archives. and so they delve into The Hole, while Rahi, mysteriously organized, block them at every turn. To the settlers, refugees from a dozen different lands, the situation is desperate. Broken into fragments, harried by Visorak, Rahi and even their own number now Hordika. They have banded together in southern Po-metru under the leadership of Erazoth, Toa of Iron, and there prepare to fight to the last. Others find themselves huddled in a east Ta-Metru chute station, waiting for the inevitable hunt to find them. Still another group flees through Ga-Metru, hounded constantly by the Visorak hordes. Meanwhile, from their home in the central chute station of Po-Metru the Vortixx of New Xia prepare to deal with the Visorak threat--and few think they will side against it. All this is no care to the Outcasts: castaways from the first settlement, criminals banished there afterwards, they scramble a sparse living in Onu Metru, often feasting off the flesh of the very Rahi that hunt them down constantly. Factions The Settlers/The Refugees When the cataclysm struck, followed by an increase in lawlessness and the ruin of some small civilizations, many left their homes seeking a new life. Others, particularly Toa are fleeing from the persecutions of the Brotherhood. Still others come for more diverse reasons: a chance of adventure, a criminal record at home. Then there are the casualties of the mysterious war between the Brotherhood and the Dark Hunters. There are as many backgrounds as there are refugees. Upon settling, the diverse backgrounds nearly brought them to ruin: after a minor civil war, most minor species were driven out, exiled into Onu Metru, the most dangerous and most Rahi infested sector. Some of the remainder decried the action, but Turaga Elhast was adamant and won over the other reluctant Turaga to her side. Upon the invasion of the Visorak they were completely fractured, now existing as three groups with little to no contact. The South: Led by Norholk, Turaga of Iron this group has fled to eastern Ta-Metru where it has dug in, turning a chute station into a fortress. They have amassed a whole arsenal of Kanoka from the abandoned factories, tools, assorted weaponry and powerless Kanohi: even a few noble or Great masks have been retrieved. They number a little over a hundred, mostly Matoran with a smattering of Toa and a few of the more amicable minor species. The North: The smallest of all groups, this one is composed of the survivors from the Ga-Metru settlement. They are constantly moving, their goal being the northern tip of Ga-Metru. The fiery Turaga of Lightning, Elhast, leads the ragtag band of hardly fifty Matoran. The West: the most powerful of all three groups and the most varied, mainly due to having the remnants of the settlers rear guard, led by the valiant Erazoth, with them. They number perhaps two hundred matoran, Toa and a larger than normal minority of other races. They inhabit a canyon in central Po-Metru where they have remained largely unmolested by their foe. but as the Visorak approach their security vanishes day by day. New Xia A neutral faction as of yet, it was founded after the banishment. Unlike the other Outcasts the Vortixx banded together and migrate to Po-Metru where they settled in and around the central chute station. They have no loyalty to either Visorak or settlers, and no one knows what they will do when the conflict reaches them. The Visorak They are beyond count, from the rank and file spider to the massive Kahgarak. Rahkshi accompany them, as well as diverse mercenaries. They have occupied most of Ga-Metru and all of northern Ta-Metru, spilling into Po-Metru. They are led by the mysterious Makuta Chirox, and seem to have only one goal; capture and transform. Some of their victims have submitted to their Hordika side, joining the horde as some of their most brutal members. After securing the Great Temple area, groups of Visorak and mercenaries are migrating to Onu Metru, looking to occupy the archives. So far their forces have been stymied by the Rahi. The Outcasts Some are more recent, Hordika who have fled here, rejected by their former friends. Others are older, criminals and exiles from the settlers, banished to Onu Metru. The weak are long dead and the strong barely survive in a Metru that is simply swarming with hostile Rahi of all kinds. The Visorak invading their Metru have added one more problem to their lives, and some have fled to Ko-Metru. Locations Ga Metru The city of water, once a home of learning and teaching, now a broiling battleground. Central and southern Ga Metru are covered in Visorak webbing, and Hordika wander here and there In the north the small remnant of settlers live a nomadic life, constantly fleeing as Visorak pursuit whittles down their numbers. Ta Metru The entire northern portion of Ta-Metru is under Visorak control, while the settlers have barricaded themselves a chute station in the east. Po Metru Largely deserted except for the hiding settlers and the many wandering Rahi. Visorak have taken over the southern tip of it and are slowly moving north. Ko Metru Ko Metru was hit worse than any other district by the Cataclysm. Few of its famed knowledge towers still stand. Instead, the ruins of towers, chutes, and buildings fall together to form a massive maze. Snow perpetually falls, and Rahi prowl softly through the constant twilight, always hungry. Survival rate here is almost as low as in Onu Metru, and as a result, is unoccupied except for a small amount of outcasts and the like, desperately trying to survive. Le Metru Next to Ko Metru, Le Metru was hit the worst by the cataclysm, and is a far cry from the brilliant sector it once was, now a huge wasteland, filled with tangles of wires, ruined chutes and webbing: some chutes still work, but so slowly that most people who enter it drown before they can reach their destination. Onu Metru The last, and most dangerous district. During the Great Cataclysm, the main entrance to the archives was opened, and the stasis tubes holding the thousands of rahi contained under Metru Nui were broken. The rahi spread across Metru Nui, but upon arriving, the settlers managed to drive them back into Po, Onu, and Ko Metru. When the settlers settled down they sent criminals exiles, misfits of all kinds here, almost four hundred. More followed over time. Death by rahi, and fighting amongst themselves have caused their numbers to decline. the Visorak hordes are beginning to focus on this Metru pouring the spiders and Rahkshi alike in there to secure the Archives. To their surprise the Rahi have attacked in surprisingly strategic movements, halting their initial advance. Profiles Name: Elhast. (Ehl-hast) Gender: Female. Species: Turaga. Faction: Settlers (Northern) Kanohi: Noble Calix. Element: Lightning. Appearance: Although Elhast is a turaga, she most certainly does not look like one. Full five feet in height, she is well muscled and athletic. Her armor is designed for practical use, unlike the standard garb of a turaga, and it covers and protects well. Powers: Limited power over lightning. Abilities: Agile, fast and strong, Elhast could hold her own against any matoran. She is skilled with the small glaive she wields, and with what little elemental power she has left. Weapons: A staff, four feet in height. It is made of wood with a covering of metal, and a foot long blade is affixed to the top. It is a weapon, not a ceremonial badge. Other Equipment: None. Personality: Elhast has not changed a lot since her days as a toa. She is impatient often, with a fiery temper, and a strong sense of loyalty: a traitor would want to stay well away from her, if he wanted to keep his head on. History: Once a matoran from the Southern continent, Elhast became a toa quickly, and soon left her native village. She worked first as a mercenary, then as a member of a toa team. She lived on the northern continent, and after several thousand years, handed her power over to another, becoming a turaga. After the betrayal of the makuta, her village was destroyed, and she and the rest of the survivors fled towards Metru-Nui. After the Visorak invasion she led the survivors in Ga-Metru northwards. (Optional) Notes: None. Name: Norholk. (Nor-ohlk) Gender: Male. Species: Turaga. Faction: Settlers (Southern) Kanohi: Noble Huna. Element: Iron. Appearance: Norholk is old, and looks it. His armor is scarred and faded, and the plain gray robe he wears is ragged and patched. Nonetheless, his red eyes burn with an undimmed fierceness. Powers: Limited control over iron. Abilities: Norholk is certainly not a warrior, and his strength and agility are on par with a normal turaga’s. However, like all his species he has marvelous endurance. Weapons: A simple staff, untopped or ornamented. It is a simple walking stick, and Norholk uses it as such. Other Equipment: None. Personality: Once a fiery and fierce toa, Norholk has mellowed quite a bit, becoming far more thoughtful and wise. Not changed however, is his unbending iron stubbornness, a great asset in this period. History: Norholk is among the oldest people on Metru Nui. He lived first as a matoran, than a toa, and finally as a turaga in a small village of Fe matoran. His village, like many other gravity, magnetism, and iron villages were raided by Brotherhood forces. Norholk fled with the few other survivors, and upon coming to Metru Nui, was made a member of the leaders council. He was forced to retreat into central Ta-Metru where he commands the fortified chute station where the settlers there have gathered. (Optional) Notes: None. Name: Feynioh. (Fay-nee-oh) Gender: Male. Species: Turaga. Faction: Settlers (Western) Kanohi: Noble Komau. Element: Ice. Appearance: A little over four feet in height, Feynioh is dressed in a simple monklike black robe, with offset his white armors feet and hands, and his white Kanohi. He walks without any form of bending. Powers: Limited control over ice. His best attack is by freezing via hand or staff touch. At this, he is deadly, and can flash freeze a foe by simply tapping him with his staff, a fate shared by several visorak and a rahkshi so far. Abilities: Feynioh is by no means an athlete, but neither is he a frail turaga. He is about as strong, agile, and fast as an average matoran. Weapons: A long staff, made out of pure, tempered steel. Each end is spiked, making it both a blunt and stab weapon. Other Equipment: None. Personality: Of all the council, Feynioh is the quietest. He speaks only when he must, and when he does, it is in clipped, short statements. He prefers observing to acting, and thinking to speaking. History: Feynioh grew up in metru, but left after a few hundred years. He traveled halfway across the world, and in the process became a toa. At length he settled down, became a member of yet another group of toa. He handed his power on to another, and became a turaga. His village, like many others, was destroyed during the first stages of the Makuta and Dark Hunter war, and Feynioh and his matoran and toa fled to Metru-Nui. He commands the settlers in Po-Metru, aided by Toa Erazoth. (Optional) Notes: None. Name: Erazoth. (Ear-ah-zohth) Gender: Male. Species: Toa. Faction: Settlers (Western) Kanohi: Kakama. Element: Iron. Appearance: With the distinctive gunmetal and burnt orange of his element, and his height and broadness, Erazoth stands out in any crowd. His sole weapon is a long sword, which he wears at his side. Powers: Erazoth is a veteran, and has great control over the element of iron. Abilities: Strong, fast, agile, and with the marvelous endurance of his kind, Erazoth is the embodiment of the warrior. He is an expert longsword fighter. Weapons: A protosteel longsword. Other Equipment: Erzoth wears full plate armor, with mail protecting what areas the plates cannot cover. It is made of pure protosteel. Personality: Erazoth is stubborn and a bit hot tempered, although over the long years of combat, he has learned all too well when to think and when to fight His front greatly conceals the loss and pain he often feels over the sudden invasion, especially the losses of the settlers, warriors he knew and loved. History: Erazoth grew up in a small village in the northern continent. The climate was harsh, and rahi were a constant threat, despite the village’s resident toa. He started out as a maker of weapons, but became a wielder of them as well, at first helping the village’s toa, and then organizing a small fighting force to better protect the village. A thousand years later, the village’s toa handed his powers to Erazoth after the death of the ruling turaga. Erazoth stayed there for many years, keeping up his tradition of forming the matoran into a self-defensive force. When word of the betrayal of the Brotherhood of Makuta, and their subsequent massacre of iron toa, Erazoth and the Matoran of Iron in the village fled in order to not endanger it. He was one o the most warlike leaders of the settlers, largely responsible for the defeat of the Makuta’s first force. He led a almost suicidal assault on the Visorak, pulling the remnants of his force back to Po-Metru where he resides. Makuta are obviously outlawed, as well as all non MU species. Other species such as Axonn or Brutaka's species must be at least limited. -Limited Kanohi: Elemental masks are allowed, but they may only have control over an element (no peace/rage etc) and the power level of the masks cannot be greater than the mask of gravity. Name: No canon or nonsense names (examples, Tahu, and fheu4858). Gender: Male female, unknown, or none. Species: See prohibited species. All characters must have a species. Appearance: Give a description or picture of your character. Powers: If your character has any powers, put them here. Abilities: A good swordsman? Archer? Athlete? Basically, what are the physical (or mental) abilities of your character. Weapons: List whatever weapons your character has, and please keep within reason. No weapons that give you full control over an element, or something along the lines of an ULTRA COOL HAMMER OF DOOM. Other Equipment: Whatever other equipment (special armor etc) your character possesses, put it here. Personality: How does your character act? What's he'she like? Put it here. History: Write a brief history of your character. (Optional) Notes: Put down whatever else about your character that you'd like to. Rules -Absolutely no autododging, autohitting, or other forms of god moding. -Bunnying is illegal. No controlling other peoples’ characters without their permission. -Use IC for In Character portions of the post, and OOC for out of character portions. Do not post OOC only posts in the role playing topic! The discussion topic is made for them. Making an OOC only post will result in a warning, and if repeated enough, banning. -Please, use good grammar, and make your OOC and IC posts understandable. Bad grammar might not look bad to you, but it does for others. -Staff controlled characters are staff controlled characters, not NPCs. Do not control them without permission of the GMs. -NPCs are not target dummies. Just because they’re not PCs doesn’t make them a lower life form. -Your characters cannot know your enemies plans in an instant, or know the exact power etc of an opponent unless they are told IC, or find out IC. Your character is not all knowing, although you may know something from reading another IC post not related to your character, or reading an OOC post or whatever. -Please act civil. Do not insult, degrade, etc other players. -Do not play to win. The purpose of an RPG is to have fun, and interact. Any character, no matter how powerful, can be defeated. Going into an RPG with only the specific intent to get ahead and win will get you nothing but failure and a lot of annoyed people. -Respect staff rulings. If you have a problem with a staff’s ruling, take it up via PM with either that staff member or another. Do not disregard the ruling, start a temper tantrum over it, etc. -When you are dead, you are dead. Your soul cannot take over another body. Bam, it's over, your character's soul is in the next world and whatnot. Reincarnation is also outlawed. -There are times when death is unavoidable. Get used to it, your character is no more powerful than an NPC, you can die. It you're surrounded by a dozen Visorak, and you have a broken leg and no powers, you're going to die. The meter is this: When staying alive falls under auto-dodging/invulnerability, your character dies. Notes Well, I’m back with this RPG. After Strike From the Shadows, I have removed aspects of the game that I know are going to fail: most specifically very organized factions that are irksome for a GM to run. I cannot promise that this game abides by the canon: I believe I definitely made the effects of the Makuta Dark Hunter War greater than they were, but there will definitely be other differences.
24. The Ruki swam through the tranquil oceans of Mata Nui. He watched Tarakava serpents slither through the water as they were stalking a strange blue figure, Takea sharks on the hunt, and many other things. It’s a magical world he thought as he swam on, still observing. Ooh! What’s that? He thought as he swam towards an oddly shaped sea urchin. What does it taste like? He wondered as he bit it. Yuck! Definitely NOT a sea urchin. He said as he spat the object out. When he turned around, he saw a very odd creature in the water. The newcomer wore a blue mask, like most of the natives, but a red and yellow body. What are you? The Ruki wondered as he followed the odd, multicolored thing to the object that was most definitely NOT a sea urchin. Take it. I don’t want it at all. The Ruki thought. The creature then swam up through an opening and disappeared. The Ruki followed and stuck its head out of the water and watched the creature place the object that it had picked up into a larger thing. Just then a hut that the Ruki had seen earlier, filled with little blue things, popped up and out of the water. Then the trouble started. A giant Tarakava, most were, burst out of the water and attacked. Time to go! The Ruki thought as he plunged back into the ocean. Several hours later, the Ruki was still hungry. What’s that smell? The Ruki thought as he approached a shiny object with something delectable on it. This looks good… The Ruki thought and he bit into the chunk of meat. Yum… So tasty… The Ruki thought. Wait, what’s happening? The Ruki thought as he struggled to stay underwater, his strength finally gave and stopped struggling. “I got one!” Something said. “Nice job Marka, I didn’t know that you had it in you!” Another voice said. What’s going on? Where am I? The Ruki thought, scared, as he flopped onto a lily pad. “You’re going to be my new pet.” The voice called “Marka” said. What’s a pet? The Ruki wondered as he was carried off.
25. I beat college like a month and a half ago. Finished my finals and handed in all my paperwork a week early then packed up and left in the middle of the night without telling anyone because I sorta had this general loathing for enough people there that I didn't want to make a big deal out of it. I'm glad to be back in Colorado. Working and getting paid way better here, am saving up this summer to get a select few people some nice lodging for Brickcon. Seriously, be there. Our Cuusoo project wasn't rejected and apparently they're still looking into getting it approved, so that's neat? I'm excited. Go read BZPstuck I swear all my favourite characters are finally here omg. I finally fixed this thing that I made for Rob and Becca sometime last year because it was in a ridiculously low resolution and you can check out the shiny new one here. ummmmmm yeah that's it thank u for reading I'm still alive
