  1. A lot of people are bothered by the differences between Hero Factory and BIONICLE, but today I was thinking about some of the story-related decisions made by the Hero Factory creators that really did do favors for the theme and its fans. Unlimited Heroes: There was something poetic about BIONICLE's "Six Heroes, One Destiny" tagline in 2001, but when you think about it, it was a creative limitation on fans that later BIONICLE story arcs did well to do away with. Back in 2001, there were a lot of constraints on BIONICLE: there were only six Toa, only six Turaga, only six villages, and only six Matoran tribes. These constraints were a limitation for fan-created stories. To create characters like Voriki, Toa of Lightning, you had to actively contradict the official story at every turn, particularly if you wanted your character to interact with the official characters overtly. Hero Factory instead encouraged fans to create their own missions and their own heroes by demonstrating that officially, there were millions of heroes far more than you'd ever get to meet in the official storyline. The online mission log, mission ticker, and testimonials even provided examples of these heroes and the variety of missions they were assigned to. This allowed fans to create their own heroes with whatever powers and personalities they could dream up. . Many Destinies: The "One Destiny" part of the classic BIONICLE tagline can be used as a metaphor for another problem the BIONICLE storyline had. Namely, its characters' quests were part of a singular overarching saga with very few gaps. There were few mechanisms for characters to get new tools, armor, or masks except with a scripted transformation. This limited what fans could do with the official characters in their own storytelling, building, and role-play. There was no way to create new forms for official characters unless they set their stories before or after the official story, because you couldn't cram a new form between two quests. And form changes were often tied closely to the idea of "destiny" most of the time, a character could only transform if they were destined to do so, and it was not a reversible process. The "Adaptive Armor" of 2008 made the characters more adaptible, but the story didn't take great advantage of it. In Hero Factory, "upgrade" mechanisms were in place from the beginning: first by refitting heroes with new gear, like in the Furno Bike or Bulk & Vapour sets, and later with more elaborate upgrades that completely altered the heroes' armor and equipment. Furthermore, missions didn't have strict placement on a linear timeline, allowing the characters to go on new missions of any importance at any point between the ones portrayed in the main story. They could even team up with people's original hero characters or face off against people's original villain characters on those missions: since each mission was more or less self-enclosed, there was very little danger that such missions would end up contradicting future missions in any way. . Powers Tied to Design: I remember that back when the Toa Inika, Toa Mahri, Phantoka, and Mistika were introduced, changes to their design were often explained by fans with the idea that they weren't designed with specific characters in mind: they were created as generic characters, and identities, colors, and powers were assigned to them later. It's not clear how true this was, but it could certainly hold true with many character designs and mask powers. The Piraka's powers and personalities had no irrefutable ties to the individual set designs, nor was there an obvious connection between many most post-2003 mask designs and their powers. Later BIONICLE waves began to improve on this: the Barraki's powers and personalities were expressly tied to the sea creature motifs they were based on, and the powers of the Makuta in 2008 were largely connected with their bat and insect motifs. The Glatorian designs also had clear elemental motifs matching the characters' tribes, though they weren't tied to powers right away since none of the characters had special powers before Mata Nui arrived. Hero Factory likewise assigned most powers and personalities based on the character and weapon designs. But the 2.0 and 3.0 heroes, despite powers that matched their new forms, did not have obvious design ties to the heroes' previous forms and characterization, other than pretty strong consistency in their color schemes. The Breakout series changed that for good. The characters returned to using their original masks or new masks designed to resemble them, and many parts of their design paid tribute to the characters' original powers, personalities, and motifs. Stringer, the sonic-themed hero, got a guitar cannon and speakers in his shoulders, while Evo, the weapons expert, got a hefty Tank Arm. Subsequent forms, equipment, and powers for the heroes remained extremely character-driven. . Powers Not Tied to Gender: BIONICLE definitely deserves praise for the decision to have female characters, which came as a result of pressure from franchise manager Lena Dixen. At the same time, the way it dealt with gender was somewhat lackluster. Gender was tied to the tribe or powers of a character: at first, only blue water-oriented characters were female, though later characters who didn't appear in the sets introduced new "female" elements like Lightning and Psionics. Like the constraints I mentioned at the beginning, this was very limiting. Even worse, this rule was more only ever broken to allow a male character to have a traditionally female element, never the other way around. The only female Glatorian or Agori to appear was a water-themed character. Hero Factory thankfully didn't come up with any rules for what characters had to be like to have certain powers, not even with regard to color scheme. This meant that your custom hero could be male or female regardless of its color scheme or powers. The official story still has downright pitiful gender ratios, but fan-created characters have absolute freedom in terms of gender, powers, colors, and motifs. . Obviously I'm not trying to hold this up as evidence that Hero Factory was better than BIONICLE as a whole. I could be here all day writing up a list of ways that the BIONICLE story was well planned and well executed, or ways that the Hero Factory story has been poorly executed. But at the same time, I appreciate these kinds of differences between the two themes especially, because they are indications that a theme's design is informed by its forerunners' strengths and weaknesses alike. It's a sort of creative evolution, even when a theme is taking lessons from wildly different themes (like how BIONICLE took lessons from themes like Alpha Team and Star Wars rather than just from Roboriders and Slizer, or how Ninjago took lessons from themes like Exo-Force and BIONICLE rather than just from the previous Ninja theme).
  2. You know, I fully understand that there are a lot of people who will never like Hero Factory. And I respect that. Tastes differ, after all. But something I'll never understand is how often I hear claims about 2010 Hero Factory sets being better than subsequent series. It seems like selective memory at its finest. Let me refresh your memory: in 2010, there were 15 sets total. Six of those were heroes like this one or this one. Let's run through the features, shall we? Two-piece limbs. The beam is reasonable by Av-Matoran or Agori standards, but Av-Matoran and Agori standards are not very high. The ball cup is prone to breaking (as with the Glatorian heads and fists that these sets also reused), there are very few connection points, and of course it has a molded joint rather than a functional one. The shell is an extremely specialized shape with only one connection point. Some people have found other uses for this piece, but they are few in number, and in general it's pointlessly overspecialized even by BIONICLE standards. . Three-piece torsos. The beam is a nice-looking shape with decent proportions, but its connection points are quite limited. It's a step up from the Av-Matoran and Agori torsos, so I guess it deserves at least that much credit. There were four styles of torso shell (1, 2, 3, 4. Functionally, they were interchangeable, with the same two connection points and the same bulky, highly restrictive shape and size. Again, pitiful even by BIONICLE standards. The Hero Core was purely decorative, and while their single connection point could be used to attach to all sorts of things, they were pretty limited in use except as a specialized torso decoration. . The feet weren't too bad, and I still use the ones I got from Breez in the Breakout series. If used the way these sets used them, they have a disproportionately chunky ankle, but by adding a two-module axle you can make a foot with much more attractive proportions. . As far as weapons were concerned, the rookies (Furno, Surge, and Breez) got the better deal. Each got two weapons with two connection points each. It shouldn't be any surprise that Furno's and Surge's continued to see use in future years. Stormer, Bulk, and Stringer didn't fare so well. Instead of having specialized weapon pieces and specialized limb pieces, their weapon arms were the worst of both worlds. Molded elbows? Check! Only one connection point? Check! Loads of specialized details? Check! They looked all right, at least from the outside, but as building elements they were pretty shoddy. Plus, this meant you got an odd number of fists and limbs. Joy. . The helmets were not really a step down from previous helmets. They looked pretty cool and had lots of personality. It was nice when they came back for 2012. Not so nice that the Glatorian head with its brittle ball cup came back with them. . Did I mention that each of these sets has less than twenty pieces? It's true! And as we just established, many of those pieces are overspecialized and extremely limited in use. The sets are also all built 100% identically except for their weapons. "But that's just six sets! That's not even half!" Well, yes and no. The other sets include six villains, two vehicles (that come with their own lackluster hero clones), and one set that includes both a hero AND a villain. So more than half of the figures for the year are heroes. The villains are pretty good by BIONICLE standards, but they're all humanoid, and the mid-size villains have just 4050 pieces (the Glatorian, Glatorian Legends, Phantoka, and Mistika were the same price, had far more parts on average, and had far more diverse designs to boot). The larger villains, Von Nebula and Rotor, are pretty solid designs, as are the two Technic-intensive vehicle sets. So if you focus on just those four sets, then 2010 was a pretty solid year for Hero Factory! If you look at the year as a whole, though, you have a year of sets that neither lives up to BIONICLE nor goes to great lengths to carve out its own identity. ----- Since 2010, Hero Factory sets have gotten more and more diverse, complex, and creative. The heroes in 2011 each had between 29 and 31 parts and had an armor layout unique to that set. Only one of them, Breez 2.0, used one-piece weapons: every other hero had a more elaborate multi-piece weapon design. The villains had between 48 and 63 pieces, much closer to BIONICLE's standards. Some of the summer villains had non-humanoid builds, and one of them was a massive titan similar in height to 2007's Maxilos or 2008's Takanuva. Furthermore, there was a new building system in which parts were designed to be as intercompatible as possible. Want to stick a torso shell on a limb bone or vice-versa? Nothing's stopping you! Want to attach a limb bone to the midpoint on another limb bone? Go right ahead! This allowed for all kinds of creative builds in the years to come. Oh, by the way, the issue of fragile joints was almost completely eliminated, with only a few legacy BIONICLE parts still using the old, brittle ball cups. 2012 pushed things even further. Instead of all heroes being small canister sets and all villains being larger box sets, there were heroes and villains at all price points. The heroes broke away from formulaic color schemes and equipment Evo's reinforced boots and Tank Arm would not have been possible in the 3.0 series where all the limb shells in a hero set were the same color. All the villains had creative builds and equipment, though the larger villain sets were still humanoid in build and posture. Also, the heroes had helmets, printed torso shells, and equipment specially tailored to them as characters. In BIONICLE, a claim often surfaced that sets were designed first and assigned to existing characters later, hence the discrepancy between different iterations of a character. Nobody could make that mistake about this series. Nex's precision laser, retro helmet design, and communications antenna all spoke to his role as the team's communications specialist, and Evo's heavy-looking boots and Tank Arm spoke to his role as the team's heavy weapons specialist. Likewise with the other heroes: the only one whose gear didn't strongly reflect his role in the team or his previous design sensibilities was Furno. 2013 was not so much of a step forward. The heroes' gear was more uniform, and the villains' builds were consistently humanoid (except for the glorious Dragon Bolt). But the weapons for the sets continued to get more elaborate, and most of the sets integrated action features of some kind (and no, not just launchers). Piece counts continued to increase, and color schemes became more diverse. And this year? The piece counts for the mid-size sets have left all previous mid-size sets (including all BIONICLE canister sets) in the dust. The builds have become incredibly diverse (helped by the fact that there no longer needs to be a humanoid set for every hero). A Hero minifigure has been designed, with excellent proportions and helmets more or less accurate to the full-size heroes. Are the recent Hero Factory sets flawless? No. But when were they ever? Certainly not in 2010, when Hero Factory was still in BIONICLE's shadow, and evoking more of that theme's worst characteristics than its best ones. It's not that there weren't things to like about the 2010 Hero Factory sets. The heroes had endearing proportions and aesthetics. The villains had diverse themes and expressions. And of course, if you like BIONICLE-style titan builds, the theme offered two of those at a reasonable price. But overall, I feel like the year's weaknesses were more crippling than its strengths were redeeming. Design quality has been much more consistent in subsequent years, and for the most part it's been improving.
  3. What I mean by this is... will we ever see Lego pour the same passion and, well, budget into a toy line that could make it take off the way Bionicle did way back when, at least when it comes to construction figures? Let's think about just how much Bionicle had going on when it began. Okay, so... you have the six main figures. All right, so we have our main heroes. Then you have the Turaga. Okay, now we have a source of exposition and myth-building, along with there now being twice as many masks as before. Then you have the "McToran". Okay, looking good! now the place feels populated. Then you have not only the main Rahi sets... but their combiner models. All right! That'll flesh things out a bit. But then, on top of the actual sets, there were the comics, the CDs that came with the figures, AND probably most important of all... The Mata Nui Online game. In my opinion, this is what made Bionicle what it was. The guys at Templar studios not only made a fun game, but they managed to squeeze soooooo much lore into it, and they did a great job fleshing out the LIFE on the island, really giving Bionicle its identity. I must again refer to the McToran, who came in so many crazy color combinations that you were always meeting new faces. And some time later, came another very important contribution... the master builder 15-in-1 rahi set. This was a potluck of all the animals that appeared in the MNOG, along with a bunch of new ones, and this, along with all the previous Rahi, their combiners, the Toa, The Turaga, and the Matoran just made Bionicle EXPLODE. It was more than just a toy line, it was ALIVE. And in the years that followed, we'd see other stunning places like Metru Nui come to be, but I don't think such things would've been as likely to pass if Bionicle didn't begin the way it did. Now, looking back... I don't think I've ever seen Lego produce anything else with that much life in it. Well, to be fair, they do seem to have put a lot of passion into Legends of Chima... at least in terms of its world, if not the writing >shudder<... but in terms of buildable figures, well... I think you can see where this is going. Okay, so, Bionicle- Toa, Turaga, Matoran, and a huge whopping pile of Rahi. Hero Factory- Heroes, Villains, a hover ship, and a motorbike. ...Compared to the former, the launch of the latter was kind of a step down. Granted, there was also a Hero Factory game, but all you really do in it is just shoot stuff over and over and over until the game itself loops. Aaaand then there's also the show, but... come on. Iook, I don't want to give anybody the wrong idea. I don't hate Hero Factory. In fact, I really LIKE it as a toy line (most of the time. Brain Attack was.... ugh), but I could say the same thing about Bionicle. I could say the same thing about the Slizers, and the Roboriders. No matter what name they go by, I'll probably always enjoy Lego's construction figures. But none of them will resonate with me the way Bionicle did. And that's not just nostalgia talking. When you bought a Bionicle toy, you were also getting this whoooooole world to go along with it. It was an ADVENTURE! Compared to it, Hero Factory's world seems so small despite spanning almost as many planets as a Ratchet n' Clank game. What I think made Bionicle resonate with kids of the time more than the Slizers did, and Hero Factory does now, is that it had a strong BASE. It had a great foundation to build upon, and that's why it sold, and GREW, as explosively as it did. Let's say it didn't have that... let's say it was just the six heroes, a few Rahi, no story, and that's it. Sure, the toys would've been cool, but the line wouldn't resonate like it did. It would be the same as the Slizers, Hero Factory and so on. Nifty toys, but that's it. For some reason, the guys at lego just don't seem to have the same drive for the toys they're making now that they did at the turn of the millenium. I guess Bionicle was the sort of thing that could only happen once, and that's what makes it so enduring. That said, I think it's pretty safe to say Hero Factory won't go on forever. And whenever it goes, I hope Lego doesn't give up on buildable figures altogether. Not only that, but I hope to one day see them produce something that once again has that PASSION and life injected into it, something that really leaves a mark. And contrary to the title of this thread, I don't want it to be a Bionicle clone... just something that could stand as strongly as it did.
  4. These are my revamp/modifications to all 7 of the Brain Attack Villains. Gallery When Public http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=541230 LXF file of all of them http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/herofactory/BrainAttack/Villians/hf_brain_attack_villian_revamps.lxf Starting with Pyrox Not much is changed with him. The thing unique with him is I've changed the swinging arms gimmick to use one of the spring piece from the hockey player sets. I've also added more gold. His main change is his bashing arm is now poseable while still retaining the bashing gimmick. I used friction adders on his right arm so the arm can stay in place when using the gimmick. I've also removed all gunmetal grey and made his right leg bulky as well along with giving him more beast like feet. The main change with him is how his mace is constructed and attached. I used a flick missile to connect his mace to his hand leaving the ball joint free. The way the mace part is attached to the chain isn't purist but I think it looks better this way. All parts used exist in real life) The changes with him are bigger wings and a longer tail. Changed build to lower jaw and added in a tongue. Replaced the red button with a yellow one. And the back legs are more dragon like. 5. Throughout the Hero Factory story, we noticed that there is a mysterious villain who is responsible for the Breakout and possibly the Brain Attack events. His identity isn't revealed, possibly yet. We are wondering who this villain is. For me, I think it is most likely Von Nebula because it's obvious that he always hates and wants to destroy the Hero Factory organization, I think that he obviously has the guts to do that, and in the very end of the second Breakout episode, his clawed arm is shown in darkness. I also think there is an explanation about this, and it is this: after he got trapped in his own Black Hole Orb Staff, he made a new plan to he hopes to destroy the Hero Factory successfully. First, he got out of his staff like a powerful battering ram. Then, he snuck past the organization like a ninja. I would think that he probably learned how to do that when he was a Hero named Von Ness (Aren't Heroes trained to adapt to their surroundings during missions?). Next, he used a spaceship to get out of the Makuhero Planet and hide in a rocky planet or moon, which is seen at the very beginning of the Brain Attack episode. He later found the Black Phantom and Voltix. He told them his plan. They agreed to participate in it. That's when Von Nebula started his plan. He pretended to be a completely different innocent being to trick the Hero Factory into placing his staff into its Villain Storage Unit by calling it through a connected communicating device tell them to place the staff into the room for more security and safekeeping, so Voltix can start the Breakout. Then, Von Nebula had the Black Phantom steal the plans for the entire Hero Factory for him. Black Phantom was trying to destroy the Hero Factory, but he was stopped by the Heroes. Von Nebula got the plans through his laptop, which is seen at the end of the second Breakout episode. He changed his body to almost look like the Black Phantom, which is seen in the very beginning of the Brain Attack episode, too, to probably become more powerful. He sent the Brain bugs to destroy the Hero Factory, which is also seen in the very beginning of the Brain Attack episode. The Brains caused the events in the main Brain Attack storyline and Secret Missions: Collision Course and Robot Rampage books. I also think that he will probably get involved with the new Invasion From Below storyline because I think he possibly told the Brains to create the giant hole in the Hero Building, seen in the Brain Attack episode, to probably somehow unleash the monsters, seen on the front pictures of the new, upcoming Hero Factory 2014 set bag packages, from underground to attack the Hero Factory, too, just in case they can't succeed in destroying it. I believe that the Breakout, Mission: Catch 'Em And Cuff 'Em, Black Phantom's takeover in the Hero Factory building, the Brain Attack events, and possibly the upcoming Invasion From Below events are all distractions on Hero Factory, so Von Nebula can have enough time to use the Hero Factory plans to create his own robot-making factory to create an army of evil versions of the Hero Factory Heroes to finally destroy the Hero Factory and possibly take over the galaxy and/or the whole universe. He will probably use some Anti-Quaza, which the Bkack Phantom has, to create the evil robots. He will also possibly get a lot of bad people, probably the villains that are still on the loose, to help him create both the factory and the robots, like the Hero Factory organization. I think Von Nebula would be like Makuta Teridax from Bionicle because of the way he plans and acts like the main villain in the whole Hero Factory story. Overall, that's my theory about the mysterious villain could be Von Nebula. So, what do you think about this, guys? Do you agree or disagree with me? If you don't agree about the mysterious villain could be Von Nebula, then who else?
  6. EDIT: Updated photos in this post! Caitlyn Gauss, a magnetism-themed Hero. She stands 12 inches (30 centimeters) tall and uses 168 pieces. Her skeleton is heavily inspired by this MOC of Christoffer Raundahl's which I reverse-engineered back in Spring and has been a work-in-progress for about that long, though it was Pate-Keetongu's Zero-Suit Samus that inspired me to rebuild the model (which I had scrapped for parts) and bring it to a state of completion. All images link to Flickr. Caitlyn has an impressive amount of articulation, as you can see in the following photos. Her shoulders, hips, knees and elbows can all bend well beyond 90 degrees, and she can even stand on her tiptoes. Full Flickr Gallery Since building her, I have swapped the mask for Furno XL's based on feedback from other MOCists, but I don't want to take new photos unless I make some more substantial changes. Anyway, thoughts? I'd really love to get as much feedback as possible because I certainly intend to continue refining and perhaps even completely re-imagining parts of this model. It's easily the largest humanoid model I've ever designed, and I'm sure that in the coming months I can improve it even further.
  7. Ok, first off I don't know if I am in the right spot to discuss this. This is also my first review on this site. This is about the newly released Hero Factory episode, Invasion From Below. I won't give away any spoilers if you were planning on watching. The episode was released around this past Thursday, Feb. 6th. It is a standard 30 min TV episode. This is the first episode for Hero Factory done by ADVANCE and Ghost Animations, so there are several changes to the overall feel and flow. I really liked how they made the Heroes looked, and the blended in nicely with the original style of the citizens very well. Plus, we got to see a brand new location. Also, they tied into continuity very well with Breeze. I can't say anymore on this without giving away to much. What I didn't like was the voice change that all the Heroes received. I know that it's a different company that made this episode, but come on. Nex has the Australian accent, not Surge. It was a little hard getting used to the new voices. Also, in my opinion, there lacked an overall story flow. It seemed as if they got right into the battle with out trying to figure out what was going on in the first place. I mean, they had seven members from Alpha 1 Team, they could have easily split up to deal with the problem and investigate why the creatures attacked in the first place. With the exception of Brain Attack, which an unexplained extra-terrestrial attack on Hero Factory and Makuhero City, the members of Alpha 1 always did reconnaissance before, or during, the fighting. The episode seemed more about product placement then an actual story. Overall, I give this episode an 3.5/5 stars. I would have given 4, but the voices just erked me too much. I would have been more positive about this, but then I would have gone and given away too much of the episode and what little story there was. Here's a link to the episode: http://www.lego.com/en-gb/herofactory/videos/episode-11
  8. Or "Not Another Alternate Universe Story" (aka why i shouldn't mess around with LDD when I'm bored) So Hero Factory's story seems to (unintentionally) make our heroes in good ol' Alpha-1 Team to be really sinister from time to time. From Evo suggesting to murder a buncha mini-Reapas in Breakout or all the heroes not giving a toss about all those kaiju they sent into an acid bath in Invasion from Below, the normal "positive universe" heroes already make you raise an eyebrow from time to time. So ya' gotta wonder "wow if that's what the legit heroes are like then man what could their negative universe counterparts be like?" basically Preston Stormer is the field leader of the tyrannical Hero Factory, Dr. Makuro's secret police force. Stormer commands Alpha-1 Team with an iron fist, and isn't afraid to dispose anyone who stands in the way of his ambitions. He's also absolutely bonkers if you get to know him well enough. He even goes as far to keep the deactivated Hank Thresher's head on a post outside of the assembly tower, just to let rookies know what happens when they cross him. Dunkan Bulk is something of a genius when it comes to mayhem, both on and off the battlefield, and has earned his place as Stormer's loyal right-hand man. If the Alpha-1 team leader needs something or someone broken, or a brand new weapon for some especially painful breaking, Bulk is the guy to call. James Stringer (don't call him "Jimi") is something of a recluse, preferring to keep to himself most of the time. He's really a pretty contemptuous guy once you get to know him, and he's certainly not above modulating his voice to scramble your circuits if he's in the right mood for it (which is essentially always). Stormer hates him (so does everyone else), but he works well in the field, so it's probably best to let him run through his usefulness before turning him into spare parts, eh? Wait, what? You're tellin' me there's a Daniel Rocka on the team? You gotta be kiddin' me. Oh! Waitaminute. Oh, you mean that guy? Y'know, the grey guy, right? 'bout as boring as his color scheme? You think he's disappeared, but that's mainly 'cause he's so forgettable that once he's outta your line o' sight, your processor just deletes everything related to him? Yeah, I got no idea who you're talking about. Go bother someone else, 'kay? Mark Surge is a new up-and-comer that's tearing through the Hero Factory ranks (hopefully not literally). Stormer's weary of him; in addition to being a backstabbing opportunist, he's also "hyper-competent," whatever that means, and never misses a kill in the field. Word is he's got his sights on that Alpha-1 Team Leader position, and he's willing to wait as long as he needs to take out whoever's in his way. Natalie Breez is something of a sociopath who kills small animals for fun. She's not much of a talker, either, but apparently she hangs around with Surge quite a bit. He might think it's she wants to be his second-in-command or something, but the truth is she'd probably chop him to bits as soon as he takes out Stormer. Why waste all that energy if Surge is happy to expend his own, y'know? Julius Nex is a new addition to the team, and he's something of a mad inventor... if, y'know, his inventions were of any use. No, he's far more content trying to see if he can fuse two separate heroes into one body or give a captured criminal two or three extra heads because he thinks it'd look neat. Word has it he's working on his next masterpiece. Calls it the "Brain Bug" or something. Who knows where that's gonna lead? William Furno was one of Makuro's most exciting prospects, but a glitch during the the development of his H-core resulted him being a bumbling moron who couldn't hit Bulk at point-blank range. He talks a big game, for sure, but let's face it, the only place he's going is the assembly tower - right next to Thresher. Nathan Evo is a whiny little creep who looks to adamant failures like Furno for advice. He's not really into pursuing criminals, either; he feels his time would be much better spent skewering infants or something. Weirdo. --- So yeah, they're not the most impressive Hero MOCs around (i guess i was going for a set-style approach?), but hey they're for fun and stuff. I've got some "villains" around too, but since the bios are probably more impressive than the actual guys i figure i should work on those first.

  11. Hi, guys. We know that there are Bionicle video game existing but what about a Hero Factory one? Do you think that there should be a video game for Hero Factory? If so, what would you want the video game to be like? For me, I think there should be a video game for Hero Factory because I think the Hero Factory franchise is selling so pretty well that I think there should be a video game for Hero Factory pretty soon. If it would exist, it would be based on the Hero Factory storyline, there would be console versions of the video game, and I would like it to be like a combination of the Lego Minifigures video games, like Star Wars and Super Heroes' action/adventure gameplay and Bionicle Heroes' weapon-upgrading part of its gameplay. So, what do you think, guys?
  12. This is my Revamp of Jet Rocka. I've built the actual moc in LDD. I also made a half built version in real life as well. The real life version is just to show the new functions that the LDD one can't show. .LXF file http://www.brickshel...ocka_revamp.lxf Gallery when public http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=537362 Changes from original set 1. Swapped trans green windscreen for larger trans clear windscreen. (Windscreen won't attach in LDD but it will in real life) 2. Modified wing unfolding gimmick. It also makes the jet engines move. 3. Changed handle to add stand so Jetpack can stand on its own when Rocka isn't attached. Stand folds up and extends handle to be held better. 4. Changed Rocka to be built the same as his bag set. Only things changed are removal of silver and both shoulders have armor 5. Zamor blasters can be moved up and down (Similar to LEGOJANG's JET NEX) 6. Red short beam handle replaced with longer blue one Real Life pics (Not actual revamp. Just to show functions) Front- Cockpit open http://www.brickshel...t_rocka_001.jpg Front- Cockpit closed http://www.brickshel...t_rocka_002.jpg Front- Wings extended (Wings can't be locked open. I just put a pin in a beam to hold it open for pics) http://www.brickshel...t_rocka_003.jpg Side- Wings folded http://www.brickshel...t_rocka_004.jpg Side- Wings extended http://www.brickshel...t_rocka_005.jpg Back- Wings folded http://www.brickshel...t_rocka_006.jpg Back- Wings extended http://www.brickshel...t_rocka_007.jpg Zamor cannon position 1 http://www.brickshel...t_rocka_008.jpg Zamor cannon position 2 http://www.brickshel...t_rocka_009.jpg LDD Pics (Actual revamp) Front http://www.brickshel...t_rocka_010.png Back http://www.brickshel...t_rocka_011.png Landing gear folded up when in flight mode http://www.brickshel...t_rocka_012.png Comments and criticism appreciated
  13. As the title above says, which of the Brain Attack events happened first before the others did? What I meant the Brain Attack events meaning the Brain Attack episode and Secret Missions books, Collision Course, Robot Rampage, and Mirror World. At first, HEROsector01 said that the events in the books happened first before the ones in the episode did, but later on, it switched them around: now the events in the books happened after the ones in the episode did. I am confused about this now. I mean, which of the events really happened first before the others did: the events in the episode or the ones in the events?
  14. Like the title says above, who is your favorite voice actor in the Hero Factory media? For me, my favorite voice actors are the guy who voiced Stormer, the guy who voiced Furno up to the Breakout episodes, Josh Keaton, Charlie Alder, and Mark Hamill.
  15. For LEGO's Brick Your Pumpkin challenge, I made a quick Hero Factory pumpkin hero. His name is Jack O'Lantern and he ensures that everyone stays safe on Halloween and gets lots of candy. This is a little ridic and even though I rarely build with pieces that aren't System, this was really fun! I made the shoulder armor Bionicle masks, because you've have to represent. For the H, I carved it out, and then whittled away around the sides to make the H pop out in a similar fashion to the Hero cores.
  16. Most of these MOCs are loosely based on characters from the game Global Agenda and all are made with LEGO Digital Designer. Heroes Each hero belongs to one or occasionally two of four classes: Assault, Medic, Recon and Robotics. Almost every hero is equipped with a jetpack. 001 New Heroes Here's four brand new heroes, right out of the Assembly Tower. Each is equipped with a basic ranged weapon. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/001NewHeroes.png [*]The one on the far left is an Assault class hero. They are usually more heavily armoured than their teammates and have more powerful weapons.[*]The one on the middle left is a Medic class hero. Medics aren't as common as the other classes.[*]The one on the middle right is a Recon class hero. They're the sneakiest of heroes and act as snipers and bombers.[*]The one on the far right is a Robotics class hero. Their job is to place and maintain turrets, drones, and stations and repair other heroes. 002 Robotics Drone Supporter This Robotics class hero uses various robotic drones and his repair arm to support his teammates. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/002RoboticsDroneSupporter.png 003 Medic Healer This Medic class hero's job is to heal organic beings. She can also fight, but, she doesn't get to go on missions that often. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/003MedicHealer.png 004 Assault Veteran This Assault class hero has been around for a long time. He gets to use some of the best weapons available to the Hero Factory. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/004AssaultVeteran.png 005 Recon Snow Tiger This Recon class hero's job is to eliminate enemy soldiers as quickly and as quietly as possible. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/005ReconSnowTiger.png 006 Recon Jungle Camo Sniper This Recon class hero's job is to eliminate enemy soldiers from a distance with his sniper rifle. He uses his leaf-like sword to cut through obstacles in the jungle. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/006ReconJungleCamoSniper.png 007 Robotics Engineer This Robotics class hero's job is to defend key points. He somehow managed to build an automatic turret out of spare materials and a gun found on the battlefield. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/007RoboticsEngineer.png 008 Assault 'Jonson' Jonson's job as an Assault class hero is to deal as much damage in as little time as possible. He's very heavily armoured and can take quite a lot of hits before needing repairs. His gun was formerly part of a large enemy soldier. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/008AssaultJonson.png 009 Medic Poisoner This Medic class hero uses chemical weaponry to weaken enemy soldiers. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/009MedicPoisoner.png 010 Assault Melee Prototype This Assault class hero has super tough armour, sharp claws and a really heavy, really powerful jetpack. He has trouble carrying guns, but, who needs guns when your appearance is enough to frighten the life out of your enemies? http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/010AssaultMeleePrototype.png 011 Assault Bomber This Assault class hero uses an energy bomb launcher to destroy or disable mechanical enemies. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/011AssaultBomber.png 012 Recon Infiltrator This Recon class hero's core is a bit bigger than most. She's one of the few heroes who still uses the older jetpacks. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/012ReconInfiltrator.png 013 Recon Snow Camo Hybrid This Recon class hero has a small gun attached to one arm and a blade attached to the other. She also carries a sniper rifle and a sword. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/013ReconSnowCamoHybrid.png 014 Assault Hybrid Unlike others of her kind, this Assault class hero has decided to maximize her damage output, making her dangerous at any range. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/014AssaultHybrid.png 015 Recon Bomber This Recon class hero's job is to lay down mines and sabotage enemy equipment. His favourite weapon is the powerful Shatter Bomb. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/015ReconBomber.png 016 Assault XL This Assault class hero is much larger than average heroes. He carries a huge sword. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/016AssaultXL.png 017 Recon Scrapmetal Veteran This Recon class hero has been on many dangerous missions and three of his limbs have been torn off and replaced with spare materials. His glowy parts have lost their colour, but, his armour still shines bright orange. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/017ReconScrapmetalVeteran.png 018 Recon Rookie This Recon class hero may not be as old and experienced as other heroes, but, he already has very impressive skills. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/018ReconRookie.png 019 Assault Rookie This Assault class hero hasn't been around for very long, but, he's very good at what he does. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/019AssaultRookie.png 020 Recon Flyer This Recon class hero is equipped with extra jet boosters to allow her to turn faster in the air. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/020ReconFlyer.png 021 Medic Hybrid This Medic class hero takes on the role of both a healer and a poisoner. He's surprisingly good at both jobs. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/021MedicHybrid.png 022 Assault Scrapmetal Veteran This Assault class hero lost one of his arms during a mission. One of his teammates replaced it with a rusty arm they found on the battlefield. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/022AssaultScrapmetalVeteran.png 023 Assault Scrapmetal Rookie This Assault class hero lost one of her arms and part of her leg when she was ambushed by enemy soldiers. Her teammates found and quickly repaired her, using her gun and a robotic leg lying on the ground a few metres away. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/023AssaultScrapmetalRookie.png 024 Assault XL Holo Armour Only the most experienced heroes get to use holo armour and even fewer heroes are upgraded to XL. This heavily armoured Assault class hero is one of those few heroes who gets both. His jet boosters aren't all that great, though. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/024AssaultXLHoloArmour.png 025 Robotics Scrapmetal Rookie This Robotics class hero was once sent on a mission by herself. She was found a week later by a civilian, lying in a pile of her own armour. The civilian happened to be skilled in robotics and was able to repair her with spare parts. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/025RoboticsScrapmetalRookie.png 026 Robotics XL Holo Armour This hero is one of only a few XL Robotics class heroes and the only one with holo armour. His repair arm was formerly a beam weapon torn from an enemy soldier. Like most XL heroes, he is equipped with a simple pair of jet boosters. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/026RoboticsXLHoloArmour.png 027 Recon Desert Camo Sniper This Recon class hero uses a sniper rifle to take out enemies from far away and a sword to cut them down when he's close up. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/027ReconDesertCamoSniper.png 028 Robotics Medic Hybrid This Robotics/Medic class hero can simultaneously repair a teammate, heal an organic being and deal damage to enemy soldiers. Unfortunately, using so many tools at once drains his energy extremely quickly and if he uses his jetpack, none of his weapons will be able to fire again until he lands. Should have gotten one of those combat jetpacks, but, noooo... http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/028RoboticsMedicHybrid.png 029 Assault Rhino This Assault class hero is equipped with a claw and a small gun. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/029AssaultRhino.png 030 Assault Flyer The jetpacks that most heroes carry can only keep them in the air for so long before they need to land. This Assault class hero doesn't have to worry about that as much, since her jetpack has its own power source. Just in case she ever needs to land, she carries one of the best swords produced by the Hero Factory. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/030AssaultFlyer.png Neutrals N 001 Raptuurs The Raptuurs are small, reptilian creatures. They use their claws and tails as weapons. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/N001Raptuurs.png N 002 Elite Raptuur Unlike their smaller relatives, Elite Raptuurs have clawed feet. They also have a more humanoid appearance and a longer tail. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/N002EliteRaptuur.png N 003 Crimson Rex Crimson Rex is the leader of the Raptuurs. V 001 Recursive Supersoldier Prototype This drone is equipped with a large minigun and sharp claws. It is surprisingly fast for its size and is considered extremely dangerous. Only a few have ever been seen and even fewer have been destroyed. http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l635/PR0T05T33L/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes/V001RecursiveSupersoldierPrototype.png Complete album on Photobucket http://s1127.photobucket.com/user/PR0T05T33L/library/Global%20Agenda%20Heroes?sort=9&page=1 Folder on MOCpages http://www.mocpages.com/folder.php/173771
  17. Hero Factory is starting to get some new weapon and i like to know, what is your HF weapon and why. My be the Plasma Gun and the Modification is that it can shoot green fire because it the only one i know that can be modified. My melee weapon is the Plasma Sword because i like to use a sword more then a gun.
  18. Alright, from the 1.0 to the 5.0 (Brain Attack) and whatever that one upgrade is, which one is your favorite upgrade in Hero Factory and why. My favorite is the 5.0 (Brain Attack), the new armor and helmets look great but the only thing i don't like is the new heads and some of the weapon look really odd (like bulk weapon) plus i love that they are still using the exo-force arm.
  19. If some of you guys didn't know, the pictures of the new 2014 Hero Factory sets are out and in my opinion they are not that good mostly "Evo Walker" and "Evo XL Machine", and the only ones that are good are the Villain, "Stormer Freeze Machine" and "Furno Jet Machine". Leaked images removed. -B6 Hope to see some feedback of what you guys think about these sets.
  20. Have any of you guys noticed something suspicious about the Hero Factory TV Series? For me, I noticed that in every year, a number of episodes start to decrease. In the year 2010, there were 4 episodes. In the other year, 2011, there were 3 episodes. In 2012, there were 2 episodes. And finally, in 2013, there is only 1 episode, but it first came out in the Internet before it came out in the American television. And then, we heard that the Ghost Animation company is making a Hero Factory 22-minute TV special, which will come out in 2014. And also, we heard that there will be a Hero Factory live-action movie coming in some time, but it is just an idea because a company called Universal Studios is working to get the rights to make the movie. I'll bet that there is a pattern about the number of episodes decreasing every year, so I'll also bet that there will possibly be no episodes next year and/or so on in the future. Because of these thoughts, I'll bet that the TV series will possibly end soon, possibly in 2014 or a year after that, possibly because of TV special and/or the movie coming up. So, would this mean that the TV series will possibly end soon? If it does, I might become sad about it because I like the TV series a lot because it is cool and action-packed. (crying with tears of sadness ) And I think that it will possibly be like other TV series, Xialon Showdown, Transformers: Animated, and Sym-Bionic Titan, being ended this way. (still crying with tears of sadness ) So, guys, what do you think all of this?
  21. I'm looking to get my second ever HF set , and I was wondering if Breakout Rocka is a good one. It seems to be fairly rare these days, being one of the wave one Breakout sets, and they're pretty expensive on eBay. So before I buy it, is it worth getting over the more readily available and cheap Brain Attack Rocka?
  22. I found something about the HF parts, when i gotten frost beast i look at the new armor on his chest and shoulder, then i went to get my Strakk shoulder armor and the HF part look a lot like a updated form of Strakk shoulder armor. I also found that the breakout Stringer look like a updated Gali Mistika shoulder armor. I don't know if LEGO meant to do this or did it on accident but i find this awesome to see some of the HF part having a updated part of Bionicle to fit with there new system (but still find the Skeleton system annoying) So do any of you guys thing that Lego is updating Bionicle parts to fit in with the HF system.
  23. In Hero Factory, we only have a small amount of Mask/Helmet that are recolor (not counting the 2.0 heroes, if it didn't have black and silver) So i like to know out of all the HF Mask/Helmet, what mask do you want to see recolor and in what color. My be the Brain Attack Evo Mask recolor in black because it look amazing and 1.0 furno mask in purple because we have gotten some purple but not a purple mask.
  24. We have the skeleton body build from 2011 to now and i was thinking of what you guys think about the skeleton. The parts of the skeleton are great and the hero (not the xl) is easy for a lot of people to build but it is starting to get old, we seen a lot of recolor and some old part brought back but not a lot of new stuff and the build is not evolving. (Oh boy time for some history) In Bionicle the Toa's was evolving from 2002 to 2006 then mostly stay with both inika ,piraka and another body that pohatu and kongu have (but with differnt limbs) build from 2007 to 2008 (plus with the villains body in 2008) , then with the glatorian they just stay with the inika body in 2009. In 2010 with the stars we got the Matoran body plus with the Matorans they was evolving from 2001 to 2008. (Now time for Hero Factory) In 2010 with the Lego new Hero Factory they gotten new body plus with the villains they added Bionicle parts in the villains, Then in 2011 we gotten the new skeleton build and LEGO made great build with it in 2011 Savage Planet. Then in 2012 to 2013 they still use the skeleton build. To me it is starting to get old and i do think they should evolve to something new. So what do you think about the skeleton.
  25. ((Click Thumbnails for Imgur Galleries!)) Hero Factory has always prided itself on its ability to capture dangerous criminals without having to resort to killing them, a feat that is typically stressed to new recruits and trainees. However, a small group of Heroes have taken issue with this approach and have deemed the execution of dangerous criminals to be the most efficient and easy way to protect civilians from crime. As a result, these dangerous few broke away from Hero Factory with the best training in the galaxy and a grudge against every Hero that chooses to remain loyal to Makuhero City. Calling themselves Anti-Heroes, these Heroes have been attacking Villains and Heroes alike with deadly efficiency. To combat these rogue Anti-Heroes, an elite team skilled in suppression and non- lethal combat was formed to capture and bring in these now-criminals. They are known to other cells as the Counter-Insurrection Team. Verke Garrison, AKA "Archangel": The renowned leader of the Counter-Insurrection Team, Verke is, for all intents and purposes, a walking tank. Thundering into battle with reinforced legs and armour plating, very little can take Verke down once he's deployed. His shoulder-mounted suppressor Rifle is adept at disabling enemies at long range with a powerful concussive shot designed to cripple rather than kill, while his immense strength and blade arm is more than fit at keeping enemies at bay at close range. Due to his large size and less-than-stellar mobility, Verke requires a thruster pack on his back to allow for rapid bursts of speed when in the face of danger. Thomas Trace, AKA "Trace" The stalwart second-in-command of the Counter-Insurrection team, Trace was a seasoned veteran before being taken out by enemy explosives whilst on a mission with Verke and the now AWOL Blood Raven. The explosion effectively destroyed his Hero Core and Central Processing Unit, resulting in the complete loss of his personality and memories. However, the chassis was salvageable, and was promptly repaired and refurbished and loaded with a new Hero Core and personality. This new Trace, literally a ghost of his former "self", is a master at using his dual pistols to dispatch and disable enemy units without doing to them what they did to him, his wrist blade a good fall-back at close range. Sophia Errant, AKA "Knight" Sophie is the undisputed close-range expert on the team. Able to go toe-to-toe with the most dangerous, lethal Anti-Heroes and come back without a scratch on her, Knight is as driven a woman as her blades are sharp. Despite being the shortest on the team, nobody would dare question her ability on the field, and her armament somewhat helps with that issue. Her right hand is a claw that has reserves of plasma that can be channeled along the inside of the blades with the assistance of a magnetic field that makes dispatching of enemy weapons and armour child's play, while her right hand typically has the hilt of a quaza-draining blade clenched tight in it's grasp. Loaded with weapons and blade primarily designed to take down other heroes, Sophie was designed after the first group of Anti-Heroes rebelled, and designed with taking them down in mind; this leaves her rather outmatched when having to face Villains rather than Anti-heroes. Halley Malestrom, AKA "Cain" The newest recruit to the Counter-Insurrection Team, Halley is somewhat of a Renaissance Woman; intelligent, powerful, fast, and skilled with a wide variety of weapons, she's quite proficient at nearly anything she sets her mind to. Her skill at close-range with her saw-blade shield has earned her a rivalry with teammate Sophia Errant, however, Sophie's claw fries Halley's shield every time. Despite this, her shield is still a remarkable piece of engineering that, when struck with energy-based attacks, can actually charge Halley's Hero Core in the middle of battle. Her firearm, a rapid-firing suppressor Sub-Machine Gun, can unleash volley upon volley of stunning shots can can pierce light armour for copious damage to underlying joints and structures. Sammy Spark While not a member of the Counter-Insurrection Team per se, Sammy has been invaluable to the continued operation of the team. Having constructed all of the team's weapons himself, he's an invaluable engineer and, despite his short and stout stature, is valuable on the battlefield as well. His pistol is a prototype weapon that uses electromagnetic pulses to drain his enemies' energies, softening them up for his teammates to capture. His claw arm also possesses this ability, with the added function of charging his own hero core, much like Sophia's blade. Despite his ability to fight, he rarely does so and is typically sent on repair and maintenance missions, and only sees combat on missions that require his technical expertise. ((Sammy's design is based heavily off of a design I found on Tumblr courtesy of Tumblr User Cabooceratops, I simply modified it slightly to accommodate a Hero Core on the back. Comments and Criticism welcomed!))
