    Murder Mystery

Okay, so, for a long time now I've wanted to write a murder mystery [thanks to Agatha Christie, Sherlock Holmes, and the old TV show called "Columbo"]. Now I have finally started it, finishing the prologue today [and of course, thanks to Nuju for pointing out a few mistakes for me]. This also is one of my entries for this "week's" [since this time it's longer than a week] exercise. It currently doesn't have a title, but if you guys have any ideas I'd like to hear them. Not sure when I'll write more, but I hope to soon [and, for those curious, it will not be a BIONICLE-themed epic]. I tried to use a lot of description, so hopefully I did well on that. Anyway, all comments/constructive criticisms are very welcome. I would love to know what you guys think. ^^ [Edited after Kopakalaka's suggestions] -Velox

    Epic

For a longer time then any of you could imagine I’ve wanted to write a Bionicle epic. If it weren’t for my procrastinating nature and low self-esteem, it would’ve been written years ago. However, as a writer, my style has matured and new ideas have been planted in my mind. These blog entries also help me out and I’m taking them slightly more serious because they’re an excellent exercise for writing down things that just pop up in your head. Anyway, I’ve long read many stories by BZP’s elite writers and envied them as well. For they can kick it in gear and actually write down a story, while I merely sit back and say I’m going to do it, but push things back when I feel like it. This will be no more. I’m giving myself a goal. My mother has always said goals would organize my rather chaotic life more then it is already. I want to write an epic by November, the same time that NanoWrimo will begin. I’ll try and fit this in with my schedule, but I don’t plan to back down. Even if it is the most utterly, stupid piece of fanfiction you’ve read, I will be proud. That I finally managed to get my lazy butt up and put my ideas on paper.

    Writers' Club

Please read this entry. :: :: Welcome to the Writer's Club! The BZPower Writers' Club is a group of writers that have gotten together to help each other improve their literacy skills as well as discuss their story ideas. This entry may be used for discussion of the club or of literature in general; I'll probably make another entry for writing ideas/discussion, and I'll be making a Library entry soon [please post your works there!]. Purpose The purpose of the Writers’ Club is to get people more active in the Library. In both writing and reviewing [though mostly the latter], the Library seems to be getting less and less activity. And so, that’s why I – with the help of others – created this club. The basic motto is “review and you will receive reviews” – which is exactly what this club is about. If you join, then you are asked to review a certain number of literary works per month. Also, there will be a Library compiled of literary works written by club members; those must be reviewed first, in return for any reviews you have given. Joining We ask that before one joins, you agree to the following: -You agree to review at least three literary works a month. If you are part of the SSCC, ECC, or COTSCG then two of your three reviews may be done for those clubs. However, I ask that for at least one review, you either review something from the Writers’ Club Library or a story in the BZPower Library that hasn’t gotten much attention [for now, you only need to review something from the BZP Library that you think needs a review; I'll put up a Library entry and once that starts getting some attention, then you should review those if another club member hasn't]. -You try to write frequently. All we ask is that you try to expand your skills. Whether it be writing in an RPG, or just jotting down ideas on a piece of paper that we will never see, I’m trying to get people to write more in this club. Then, all you have to do is fill out the following form, and place it in this entry: Contests Once a month there will be a contest for all Writers’ Club members. Most of the time, there won’t be a prize, but it will instead earn you the title of “Writer of the Month” in the Writers’ Club, and should motivate you to write more. I also hope to set up some sort of collaborative story between club members at some point, so you guys can discuss that in this entry, if you have any thoughts on the subject. The first contest [with prizes, and possibly open to the public] will take place after the Short Stories Autumn Olympics have finished. Post here for any suggestions. Members Here is the current list of members: -The Dark Knight [Toa Velox] -Takuta-Nui -Lady Kopaka -Tifosi 92 -Kiotu - -Zaxvo- -Necro -Toa Spirit -Snoopy82 -Steamboy [Kakaru] --- Feel free to use the banner below for advertising [it's the same as the banner at the top of this entry]: [url="http://www.bzpower.com/forum/index.php?automodule=blog&blogid=1023&showentry=72275"][img=http://www.majhost.com/gallery/McSpork/Graphical/Requests/veloxwriterrequest.png][/url] -Velox
  4. Taking advantage of the popularity of RPG programs, I’ve decided to create WDYT. Not a challenge or some type of award show. I’m simply going to ask a question (RPG-related) and listen to your opinions on it. I’ll try to ask a question each day, if people actually like this. So what do you think about this idea?

    My First Rant!

Rant on One Dimensional Chars in RPGs So I’m like really bored and I haven’t been using my blog. I was browsing the internet and ran across the really cool Fantasy rants. It gave me an idea. Why don’t I rant about things? I’m pretty sure nobody cares, but hey. I’ve got nothing else to do with this blog. 1. Why one dimensional character is bad. Simple. Just like how I described that in one word, a one dimensional character can be described easily with just one word. A character shouldn’t be able to be described in word like a bad guy who can be summed up by saying evil or dastardly. If your char can be described in just one word, then you have serious problems. A character is more then just a trait given life. It is your duty as a write to flesh the character out, give him more traits that clash with his. Nobody has a main trait. Their personality is built out of many traits working together. I’m not saying that I’m an expert on this, but I do know a lot about it. How? Simply because I’ve created a lot of one dimensional characters. Recently, people have been telling me that my new characters are a lot more interesting, mainly because their not one dimensional. 2. They don’t get more dimensions. I hate when characters don’t change, but I especially hate a one dimensional char who keeps one dimension. No matter what they go through, that one trait never evolves or changes. This is ridiculous in stories, but even more ridiculous and stupid in RPGs. When a character interacts with others they automatically change views and understand things more. Just like in real life when you meet new friends and learn interesting things from them. This is part of character development, which is essential IMO to become not only an excellent RPer, but a good writer. Just like the previous part, I have the same problem as well. Although I am better at character development and exploring a character more, I still create characters like this. It’s not necessarily bad though. Some characters are pure fun, like Flavor Dingo. He is a pink Rahkshi and probably won’t be given a complex history or anything. However, I even explore his ridiculous thoughts and reactions. Relatively short rant, so sorry if you guys want more. I hope to get better at this as I go along. However, I do hope these little tidbits helped.

    Sigh

:: :: I really want to write something, but I don't know what, and I don't feel like writing the five things that are already in-the-works. Inspire me? In other news, I hope to get the Writer's Club started by the end of next Sunday; I still would like a few more people to officially join, though [you can post here if you want to]. And on Wednesday I take the PSAT. Good news is that I get out of school at 11:30. Bad news is that I have to take a boring test. Also, Midterms are this week. I had English and Biology today; both really easy. Tomorrow I have Religion and Latin [though, we're not having one in Latin]. Thursday is Math and History. Don't have one in History though. I'm not really concerned about any of these at all; I don't even really need to study for any of them. I do have a bunch of stuff due tomorrow, though, but I really don't feel like doing it. I guess I should get to it... Basketball is kinda starting to get annoying; it just takes up so much time and is really tiring. Ah, well. Don't expect me to do any major stuff except on weekends or days I have half-day/no school. But, yeah, writing ideas, please?
  8. :: :: I'm mainly posting this here so that I can link to it in various places, rather than just linking to my post in the BZPRPG General Discussion Topic as I did before. So, without further ado, I present to you a Quick Grammar Guide of sorts, written by your very own Toa Velox: The most common mistake I see is the use of There, Their, and They're. Below I will write how each one is to be used, and an example: There: "There" is used to describe a place. I want to go over there. Their: "Their" is possessive, just like "mine", except used when you are talking about another person. Can I play with their ball? They're: "They're" is a shortened form of "They are" -- a contraction. They're very annoying, aren't they? Your and you're are also a very common mistake made. Your is used as possessive. Your car. You're is the shortened form of "You are" -- another contraction. You're going to the store, aren't you? Apostrophes ['] are used for possessive things, as well as contractions [Can't, they're, won't, etc]. For example, you could say "Give me Velox's sword." The sword belongs to me, so you put 's [in most cases]. When you are listing something plural, you do not need an apostrophe. [Example: It would be "There are many cars" not "There are many car's]. On that note, sometimes words are changed to "es" instead of just "s", like the plural of "Velox" would be "Veloxes". However, in the plural case, you just add an apostrophe. [Example: "Go steel one of those cars' mirrors." -- "Go steel one of those Veloxes' mirrors."] It's and Its It's is a contraction -- the shortened form of "It is". Do you think it's going to rain? Its is possessive. Gotham needs its true hero. [Dark Knight FTW] Another contraction that is often used: [Actually, I'm not completely sure if it's a contraction, but whatever =P] He's: Short for "he is". He's going to the park. Another common mistake is when someone is speaking. Some examples: Wrong: Right: Right: Right: Right: In short, if you are saying "he said" after you type the words written [Example: "We should go to the park," he said], then the "he" is left uncapitalized, and there is a comma. If you do not say "he said" but move on with the story [the third example], then there is a period and the next letter is capitalized. The same thing is with using names. If you say: "I think we should go to the park," Velox said." there is still a comma, but, of course, "Velox is capitalized, as all names/titles [as well as the first letter in each sentence] is always capitalized. Another thing is when you have a character say something, say "he said", and then have him continue his monologue. Here are a few examples: Right: Right: Wrong: Basically, when you say "he said" in the middle of a sentence, you use commas. [Example #1] If you finish the sentence, put "he said", but still have more monologue to write, then you put a period after the "he said" and capitalize the first letter of the next section [Example #2]. You do not put a period after "he said" when it is in the middle of the sentence [Example #3]. A and An. A is used before a word that begins with a consonant [any letter that is not a vowel]. Will you please had me a screwdriver? An is used before a word that begins with a vowel. Will you please hand me an axle? --- I can't really think of anything else right now -- those are just a few things that kind of bug me, but I completely understand that English may not be your main language. Feel free to use this to help you out. ^^ If you think of anything else to add, please send me a PM or post here.
  9. :: :: How To Review First off, this is by no means the way you "must" review, but rather the way I find easiest. It's mainly to help people to give better reviews, to those that struggle with doing so. I have reviewed many things, and what pains me most is to see short and "spammy" [maybe not spam according to BZP, but according to me they are] reviews that say "Awesome I love it! The *blank* is especially cool!", or other short one-sentence reviews like that. Reviews, in my opinion, are meant to help people get better. Anyway, without further ado, the review! First off, I recommend reading through Nikira's own Reviewing How-To. I'll be referencing it and commenting on it later in my own guide, so it's good to read that first. I'll start with reviews on pieces of literature [specifically, short stories, at the moment]: I find that the easiest way to write a review for a piece of written work is to quote the story [as in, reply directly to the first post so you have their story in the reply box]. Then, read through the story, and whenever you notice that something is wrong, you see something you especially like, or you see something that you think should be changed, etc., put that sentence [or paragraph, or whatever] into a quote box, and comment on it. Do that for everything you find [i suggest also commenting on the title -- titles are what make people click on the link to go to the topic, and so it is extremely important to have a good title. If the title is horrible, make sure you let them know that in a kind way, and suggestions on how to make a better one]. Once you've finished going through the story, read through it again [unless it's an epic, then it isn't necessarily necessary to read through it twice] and focus on the plot, characters, etc., and once you've finished reading it, write up a paragraph or two about what you think of the story as a whole. Make sure to mention if you like/don't like [and why] the way the author portrayed the characters, laid out the plot, described scenes, etc. For reviewing an epic there are two ways to make a good review: 1) Do what I said above, but for each chapter [it's easiest to do this while they're posting it, so you only have to review one chapter at a time]. 2) If the epic is finished [or in-progress, at least] and you want to review the whole thing at once, then read through the whole epic, and try to remember the way they portrayed the characters, introduced the characters [character introduction is very important], set up the scenes, described things, etc., and after you're done reading through the whole epic [sometimes it helps to have another tab open with the reply box, so as you're reading and you notice something, you can type it in], type out in a few paragraphs or so what you think of it [be sure to list the way they introduced the characters, set up the scenes, etc., and talk about the overall plot and storyline]. For reviewing Comedies, I'm not exactly sure what works best, as I have never reviewed one yet myself [except in my newbie days, in which case the reviews were probably just "Awesome i luv it!!1" -- bad reviews, BTW =P], but I would assume doing something similar to the way you would review an epic would be the right way. I'll have to try some time, since I am the Curator of the Comedies Critics Club. Now, remember this when reviewing a piece of literature: -Give Encouraging Comments -Give Constructive Criticism [be constructive when you critique something. If you can't say it in a nice manner, then just don't say it] Those two things are vital in writing a review [read Nikira's guide for more]. At the end of the review, simply say a few encouraging comments -- it's not that hard, and it makes many people feel a lot better, especially after a longer review that critiques a lot of things. Also in a review, remember to do the following: -Talk about plot -Talk about characters -Point out spelling/grammatical errors -Point out if the title is good or bad, and why [if it's bad, say how to make it better in a kind way] Those things are also vital in writing a review for a piece of literature. There must be good plot, characters, spelling, grammar, and title in stories, and so it is your job when you review to point those things out. For writing review for BBC: The easiest thing for me is to just take one thing at a time. Take the arm, and say everything you can about it. What you like, don't like, why you like/don't like it, and how to fix it [if possible -- if not, say "I'm not exactly sure how to fix it" or something like that -- pointing out things doesn't help if the MOCer doesn't know how to fix them]. Then, repeat that for all the parts of the MOC [Legs, body, head, feet, weapons, etc., etc.]. Remember, when writing any type of review it is necessary to add Encouraging Comments and Constructive Criticism. If you cannot critique something nicely, don't critique it. Read Nikira's guide [linked above] for more about those two things. --- That's about it . . . I'll probably make a separate entry for the Grammar Guide and change the link, but for now it's just a link to my post in the BZPRPG General Discussion Topic. Comments, questions, disagreements, etc. may be made [but be civil -- I have no problem with deleting rude comments] either here or by PM to me. I'd love to know what you guys think of this, so just drop a comment if you agree/disagree and why. :] Thanks for reading.
  10. :: :: Well, today during one of my more boring classes, I started writing. It started out with just gibberish, but then it started evolving in a story, and soon I had blanked out my surroundings completely and I was focused on the story. After about ten minutes, I was done. I'll be posting it soon, but I still need to correct it and touch it up. For now, though, you guys can read it if you want [it's human-BIONICLE, hence the white armor (so an Ice Toa), and "Solus" means "Alone" in Latin]: » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «Solus He stood alone on the edge of a mountain, clad in metallic white armor, and bearing a broad sword, which he held tightly in the grasp of his hand. As he looked down the mountain, he saw that the snow was no longer white, but rather a pink color – snow stained with blood; blood of so many victims whose bodies lay lying there still, some living, and most dead. The bodies laid there, blood pouring out from open wounds. Often there was not even a whole body, but only an arm or a leg which had been cut off during the battle. He looked out over these people – many his friends – who were lying there, helpless in the snow. Some still alive, breathing hoarsely and struggling with every breath to remain alive. He wished he could go and help, but there was nothing he could do – nothing but watch as they gave a last cry of pain and breathed for the last time. He could barely stand to watch, and almost brought his sword upon himself more than once. He could stand watching them all die helpless the way they did, but he had no other choice. No other choice but to just walk away and desert them and that was barely an option. Soon there was only one person left that still breathed – even if only barely. With each breath, drops of blood came from the man’s open mouth, but he lingered on, unwilling to give up just yet. It was his best friend. When he could stand it no longer, watching his best friend die, he started climbing down the hill-side. He walked with a limp, and one could see clearly that he had received many injuries. He trudged slowly through the ankle-deep snow toward his friend who was lying only feet away from him, pain accompanying every step. When he had at last reached to where his friend was, he fell down on his knees, and held his friend in his arms, holding him close to his own body to keep him warm. His friend continuously spat out blood, staining his white armor, for that was all he could do. He could only lie there and spit out blood. After a few minutes had passed, his friend gave one last breath. Blood still came from his friend’s mouth and wounds, but no longer felt pain, for his friend was dead. He stayed there, kneeling for a moment before screaming out in anger. He was alone, and soon would die from starvation and exhaustion, if not from too much blood-loss, as blood still flowed from his open wounds. He finally was able to leave the scene, leaving a blood-stained trail as his tracks, his feet bleeding from one of his many injuries. More than once he brought his sword to his own throat, wishing to give up hope and be done with it, but he persevered. He stayed strong. He remained the hero he was during the battle, and he trudged on alone until giving his last breath. That's about it . . . As I said, it still needs to be corrected. It's short, yes, but it's still nice to have another short story to add to my collection. I really want to lengthen it and draw out some parts [specifically where he's holding the body in his arms], but the problem is that I want to leave them both unnamed, and saying "he held him" too much can get confusing -- I've already done it a lot, so I really should have at least one name. Anyone have any suggestions for a name that are kind of human, but yet BIONICLE at the same time? Or even any human name that would fit? Thanks for reading. ^^

    Writings

:: :: I am ashamed to say that I haven't really done much over the recent downtime. Writing-wise, at least. What do I blame that to? - Reading a bunch of Agatha Christie murder mysteries - Watching a couple seasons of NCIS my grandpa got on DVD and let me borrow [an awesome show, I must say] - Doing numerous things on other forums Not an excuse, I know. I have done a few things, though: - Started writing an epic that Nuju Metru and myself are co-writing -- it's the new "Chronicles of Velox". - Started re-writing Death of a Dark Hunter. I posted this before the server crash back in March, and I never re-posted it because I didn't really like it. Well, I got the inspiration to re-write it one day, so I didn't hesitate. Unfortunately I didn't finish. - Worked a little bit on that Takanuva story I've been working on. I don't really have inspiration for that any more, though. - Started working on my BS01 story. Here's what I have so far [and is a copy/paste from another forum]: A small being woke up lying in the sand. Sand, the being thought to himself, is what this tan stuff is. How do I know that? I have no recollection of anything before now. Nothing except voices. All I can remember are the millions of voices screaming out in pain. Voices crying out as beings were murdered before their eyes. Murdered in cold blood. For that is what happens in war. Images begin to form in my mind. It was war over a liquid silvery substance. It was pathetic. And yet. Maybe it wasn't so pathetic after all."Kirbold" grinned at the thought. He reached to his side, feeling the bag lying at his waist. He placed his hand in, and pulled out a small glass bottle filled with a silvery liquid. Energized Protodermis. He laughed insanely, picking it up and holding it high in the air. He threw it up and caught it as it fell back down. He held it close to his body, as if it were a child. --- Yeah, it sucks right now. I really wish we could write in first person. In fact, I most likely will write it in first person, save it, and then change some parts to make it third person and post that one, and post the first person version after the contest. I'm not sure who the Agori will be yet, so for now it's "Kirbold". Some things would be so much better if it was first person, so I'll have to work on that. Also, he had a head injury in war, and remembers nothing. I'll hopefully be able to awesomely reveal that later on in the story, but we'll see. Anyway, your thoughts are appreciated. I'll edit this as I add more. And, yes, he is insane. EP is like "my precious" to him as the Ring is go Gollum. Yeah, not all that good. I hope to work on it in the near future, but I really don't know. I just hope I can finish it before the deadline ends. . . . That's about it, except for a few other in-life things.
  12. :: :: No, I haven't posted it if that's what you were thinking. But, I have a Dilemma. I can't seem to be able to write about my Matoran life. It's just too boring - which is expected of a Matoran. Not that it would be boring to read, but it's boring to write with all the ideas of his Toa-life I have. And, I don't really want to just start writing him as a Toa because I can't figure out how to start it, and it will flow much better if I write the Matoran Book first. Well, enough of that. I might as well give you guys a couple sneak-peaks: ~ Toa Velox will receive training from the Order of Mata Nui. After being a great pupil, he will start a 'League of Shadows' [something similar to that in Batman - except, it will be a good organization under a different name, most likely], and his armor will become black [he'll be some-what like a ninja then - he'll be able to disappear quickly, have throwing knives, etc. just like in Batman]. ~ He will then travel to the Mangai Volcano [as seen in the Prologue - if you've read it (note: this will be some time after he created the 'League of Shadows'. His Toa team will become the 'League of Shadows', most likely, as well as some other experienced Order members)], and become infected somehow [probably not by a Shadow Leech]. However, he will only become a little 'worse' and will receive a few spikes, as well as some nastier weapons [instead of actually turning a little evil, he will most likely just change in appearance, and will constantly have something nagging at his mind to do evil that he must overcome - of course, the Order knew this before they sent him on this mission]. After wards, he will be rewarded with new armor and new weapons [his 'resurrected' form] by the Order. One last note, his encounter with Makuta will most likely be with the whole 'League of Shadows' instead of just him. But, he'll do some things alone, probably. Anyway, what do you think? As you can see, Velox's life will be quite interesting [the 'League of Shadows' will do many other acts before his encounter with Makuta - also, a little note, he will end the 'League of Shadows' after the encounter with Makuta since that would be the final task of the 'League of Shadows']. So, I really want to write that, but it just doesn't feel right not writing his life as a Matoran first. I'm not sure what I'll do yet. Mainly, though, I just wanted your thoughts.

    Writing Spree

:: :: ...Definitely not something I get lately, but I welcome them with open arms. I have had one these past few days. I hope to finish a Short Story by tomorrow or Wednesday. Although I have no idea when I'll actually post it. I also have a couple other ideas, such as writing two short epics. 1) Re-writing The Battle. 2) Re-Write The Quest for the Mask of Time. I love writing sprees. I thank God every time I get one. Hopefully it will last another week and a half for all of my Christmas Vacation [yup, I get three weeks off]. You will read them once I post them, won't you?

    A Poem

I needed to write a poem on a color. I chose red. Also, I got a 25/25. Red is the color of my heart, That is full of Love for you. Red is the color of fire, The fire that burns in my heart. Red is the color of hatred, Which I feel so often. Hatred toward pain, And all that is evil. Red is the color of war, And the blood that comes from war, The blood shed for Loved ones. Red is the color of throats, Throats crying out in pain, Begging for a chance to Love. A chance to live. Red is for pain, Pain I feel when I can't be with you, When I can't feel your Love. Love is enduring, But so is its opposite. Hatred will always exist, But so will Love, My Love for you.

    Saiyuki

Saiyuki is a manga by Kazuya Minekura, based on the old Chinese legend Xi-You-Ji (Journey into the West), which was also the inspiration for Toriyama's Dragon Ball. Hence the appearance of both Son Goku and Gyumaoh (Ox King), though these are not to be confused with their DB counterparts. I only bought the first TokyoPop issue to check it out, but I think I'll actually buy the others, too. The art is excellent - make that exquisite - the story and plot are good, the characters are interesting and humorous, and there's plenty of action. Plus there's a tiny dragon familiar that turns into a jeep. How cool is that? Of course, only the 16+ BZPopulace will be able to read it, but I've had fun exploring Shangri-La with the four protagonists, and I'm coming along for the ride. Shotgun! Well, that's that for today's third entry. Pictures from camp are still underway, but the report is still coming, I promise.

    Civil War

If you're wondering why this is in the Literature category: read on, and you'll find out why. Been reading up on Civil War, basically most of the copies from February till July. I'm up to X-Men: Civil War 2 now, but I can't wait for the August issues. I'm really in love with what Marvel's done with this. The concept itself is quite radical. When it was just the Mutant Registration Act in X-Men, it wasn't so surprising, given the status of mutants in the Marvel universe. Mutants are shunned rejects, everybody's favourite scapegoat, all-round victims of prejudice. But when you use the same concept and apply it to heroes that have been accepted (or more or less accepted) by the public from the Marvelverse, it suddenly becomes quite something else. Stark is playing his political mind and power games again, and we've no idea for what purpose or reason. Well, perhaps the reason. He wants structure, accountability, order, hierarchy, even deniability. But it's also a controversial way to obtain his goal... Civil War is indeed a fitting title, for not only does it bring dissension to the hero community, it also divides the public, divides man and wife, divides friendships, even divides people's own hearts and minds. That's the strength of the story. What makes it so successful isn't action or drawing style (being divided over so many different issues and comics, that's inevitable, but refreshing), but the dialogue, the inner and outer turmoil. No wonder it's brought in new readers who'd previously been ignorant of the Marvel comic world. It's the biggest cross-over event Marvel's ever known, with a story depth to match. One of the little tricks that makes it even more interesting is the rendition of the same scene by different artists in different issues. In one issue, you've got Wolverine as seen by the operator of a Sentinel, in another you've got Wolverine looking up at the bucket o' bolts. And the intrigue! I think I've caught a glimpse of Captain Marvel! (Who should be dead, though with Marvel, you never know. Could be a clone, an LMD, a shape-shifter...) Then you've got Atlantis, Dr Doom, Cable, all with their own agendas and goals. Even X-Factor is getting involved, though I'm not too excited about that... The current artists isn't exactly impressing me with his skills. What's he doing, tracing photographs? Sure, it may look realistic, but I want to read a drawn comic, not a photo comic. And this is probably the first issue of X-Factor I've ever read, and I'm not too wild about the characters either. Except Multiple Man and the blonde precog kid. But I'd say that's the only minor note. And Spidey? Oh yeah. He's completely torn up inside. He almost worships Tony Stark, respects and admires him, but at the same time he doesn't feel comfortable with what he's doing. Sure, he's got the new fancy suit, with optic feeds, bullet proof skin, gliding... Plus the waldoes look great in what's been dubbed the 'Iron Spidey' suit. It's actually one of my favourite Spiderman outfits. (Yeah, yeah, sue me.) He wants to do the right thing, but he doesn't know what that right thing is exactly. It makes readers wonder what Spiderman's foes have been wondering for years: which way will he swing? Another advantage of this cross-over formula is that you get many different perspectives, different art styles, different parts of the plot, different writing... and different levels of humour. Some issues completely lack humour, but then you've got Spiderman, who hardly ever loses his sass, and even Deadpool joins the mix. The only problem he's facing is the fact that his first person narrative is broken. Dude cracks me up every time. And Wolverine - my favourite Marvel character, for your information - is the only one who decides to seek out the true responsible actor: Nitro. Or so it would seem... Dun dun dun... If you haven't checked this out - which I can't imagine you haven't - go catch up on Civil War. If you don't, you won't even be able to follow the conversations in the old folks home, because that's how long people are going to be talking about this. That being said, I'll leave you with the following:
  19. I just got back from the library, and I've got a few interesting books to read for the coming weeks. As well as a new BioLog category, so I need to get a new banner installed, too. Raymond E. Feist's Krondor: The Betrayal (Riftwar Legacy trilogy). Feist is one of the few male fantasy authors whose work I can really get into. I've finished the Riftwar series, which I found to be amazingly interesting. Ever since I read Magician, I've been spell-bound by these stories. I was actually looking for The King's Buccaneer, the follow-up to Prince of the Blood. Unfortunately it wasn't in yet, so I'll have to wait to finish the Serpentwar series. After the Riftwar Legacy I'll probably start reading the Serpentwar Saga, too. Brian Herbert (son of Frank) and Kevin J. Anderson's House Corrino, from the Prelude to Dune series. I've read House Atreides and House Harkonnen years ago, so I should probably find a few summaries so I can get into the story again. I'm rather confident that, now that the third part in the Prelude series is in, the third part of the Legends of Dune books will be in as well, or at least soon. The Battle of Corrin is one I've been waiting to read for just as long as House Corrino. Herman Melville's Moby Dick. It's one of the English classics I haven't read yet, but what with Smeag's constant references to the book, I decided I should tackle this monster as well. The first few pages have already sparked my imagination, so I should keep notes and make sketches of everything that comes to mind. That's it for the novels - our local library also has a comics section. Two actually, just split up between the adult and children's library. I picked up the two first copies of the French series Naüja, a Fantasy story that takes place in a world resembling the border territory of the old Russian Empire, with steppes and mountains, imperial soldiers, giants, a magical crown stolen by a deserter and a white-haired magician girl. The French have many drawing styles, but usually they're rather realistic, just adapted to the artist's own specific style. This one, however, seems to be a mixture of the French and Japanese style, which makes it all the more interesting. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to make a few more visits regarding Scouting camp, cook some spaghetti, make two drawings and read a bit. Maybe I'll watch another Bleach episode tonight, too. Or visit a friend who lives in my street, depends whether he's busy or not. See you lads and lasses around.
