  1. I hope I don't need to get this approved =/ I was waiting for someone else to make it but no one has. Anyways, the title is pretty self-explanatory: What are you listening to at this very moment? Here's a link to the original: Archive. I am currently listening to "Goldrush" by Tiësto.
  2. ha ha! well if you've never heard ov the "Piano Man" himself, Billy Joel, who are you and why are you here? seriously! Billy Joel is a classical pop/rock legend! his piano playing skills are out ov bounds! his voice is a force to be reckoned with! and overall, he is just an amazing, talented musician! it's hard to believe he almost killed himself like twice (or three times, idk)! nope! the man is still alive and still performing concerts nationally and internationally! he has released numerous albums; studio, compilation, live, maybe an ep here and there! however, he quit releasing pop/rock albums after 1993's River of Dreams! that's kinda sad but hey! at least he's still alive! you'd have to be stupid to not appreciate the fact that he is still alive and well! he has way too many hit song! too many to remember (lol)! my most favorite song from BJ is "We Didn't Start The Fire" from 1989's Storm Front! that album is awesome! i also love The Nylon Curtain from 1982! if you want to know more about Billy Joel please visit the wikipedia page; there is A LOT to go through! lol now here's my big question; are there any Billy Joel fans on BZPower (besides me and Black Six)? also here's a few questions to consider: what's your fav. Billy Joel song? what's your fav. Billy Joel album? what do you like most about Billy Joel? well i hope ya'll enjoyed reading this topic cuz i'v been wanting to create it for a while! lol if you want to discuss about Billy Joel this is the topic to discuss about him at! anyways, enjoy your day and... for the love ov Christ go listen to some Billy Joel music! it's awesome!
  3. Here! Thinking about changing the name from something else instead of “Cordak Attack”, unless you guys think that name is good!
  4. I’ve done this a couple of times here before (although I didn’t mean for 6 months to pass before doing another one of these, oops) so I won’t explain it again. You can see my past two here: Back To The Future If Life Were A Movie And I’ll be using my playlist of music from 2017 (557 songs) for this one; share yours below if you want to. The Future: 1. What is my life’s philosophy? “Fine” – Tayler Buono (not good or bad, just fine) 2. What will my last words be? “Ground Control” – All Time Low; Tegan and Sara (So my death’s gonna be plane related? Ominous) 3. How am I Feeling today? “Want You Back” – HAIM (ha, ha, NO) 4. What is my Theme song? “Totalizer” – Charly Bliss (uh…*checks Genius* alright, next) 5. What song will be played at my wedding? “Give Me Your Word” – Bella Goldwin (I’ll take it) 6. What song will be played at my funeral? “Life Goes On” – Bailey Bryan (well, not my life, but good advice anyway) 7. How will I be remembered? “Just A Crush” – Grace Vanderwal (whoa) 8. What is some good advice for me? “Big Girls Cry” – Mimoza (wrong gender, but sure) 9. What’s my life’s dream? “Empty” – Olivia O’Brien (what?) 10. What’s my kind of lady/man? “Something To Tell You” – HAIM (no comment) 11. How do people see me? “High Enough” – K.Flay (um, OK, next) 12. How would I describe this page? “Bleachers” – Jillian Jacqueline (another what?) 13. How would I describe my best friend? “Bloom” – Marnie (uh, ok) 14. What’s in store for this week? “No Love” – Olivia O’Brien (OUCH) 15. How would I describe my parents? “Sleep” – Timothy Heller (ha) 16. If I had one wish, what would I wish for? “Too Many Love Songs” – Maggie Rose (probably not) 17. What do my friends think of me? “(Not) The One” – Bebe Rexha (I think that’s a good thing?) 18. What is said about me behind my back? “Oh Love” – MisterWives (no comment) 19. What do I think of this questionnaire? “Fly high” – DREAMCATCHER (cool story) Favorites: 2, 6, 11, 14 -JAG
  5. ...'Cause I would have played them non-stop. So, needless to say, I wasn't a very happy teenager in high school and back then (as is still true today) when I feel sad or down I tend to listen to sad songs to cope and every once in a while I come across a song that make me thing, "Wow, I really wish I had this song back in high school." Although being honest, my music tastes were a lot more narrow back then so I'm entirely sure if I would have liked these songs even if I had heard them at the time, but regardless here's a short list of the songs I wish had existed in high school. (Also, I've still never learned how to use code so get ready for giant screen stretching videos.) “Normal” – Sasha Sloan Choice Lyrics: "So keep on playing that song that I don't like I just wanna feel normal for the night Keep on kissing that guy that's not my type I just wanna feel normal for the night." Gotta start with a song from the sad girl herself. This song is from early 2018 and I discovered almost the day it dropped. The desire to want to change bits of who you are or to like things that you wouldn't normally in order to gain some level of acceptance by others is, of course, a quintessential part of high school and is actually still something I really connect with to this day so this is a song I've listened to quite a lot. “Nobody Asked Me (If I Was Okay)” – Sky Ferreira Choice lyrics: "Nobody asked me if I was okay No, no, no, no, no, no, no Nobody asked if I was okay," Cheating a little bit, 'cause this song was released in 2013 when I was still in high school, but obviously I wasn't listening to Sky Ferreira back then. Anyway, is this song repetitive and super on the nose? Yes. But, that does that mean that I don't like it and wouldn't have sung along so hard to it back in the day? Karzahni no. “Jesus Christ” – Luna Shadows Choice lyrics: "Or do I divide and fall apart Cause my bright is too slight to hold back all my dark," Alright, to kept it straight. This song was released in late 2017, I didn't start listening to it until early this year while I was on a super Luna Shadows kick, but the song itself is actually a cover of a song from 2004 so yeah, that's that. The funny thing about this one, is that I think what I connect to the most in the lyrics now is different then what I would have connected to when I was younger, which is some interesting food for thought I guess. “mad at God” – Sarah Saint James Choice lyrics: "No I don’t wanna be bitter, or come across as a quitter But I’m getting kinda tired I’m mad at God Causе if he exists why do I still feel like this?" So this song, is actually pretty new and what made me want to do this blog entry in the first place. Other than that, I don't know what else to say about this one, 'cause like Sky Ferreira's song it is pretty self-explanatory I think. Perhaps something funny to mention is it that I mostly listened to Christian music back in high school and I'm pretty sure that this song would not have gone over well with Christian music fans either then or today. And that's my short list. Share in the comments below if you can relate to anything in this entry or maybe share some songs that got you through high school. -JAG
  6. All I need to do is Make the music and try to be true It's not always so easy to do But it's better than sitting around wishing I knew Who, ooh-ooh Who, ooh-ooh Who, ooh-ooh Who, ooh-ooh
  7. Hey guys, I'm Skip, and I make Bionicle music. A couple months ago I talked with a few other music producers about what the original elements of Bionicle would sound like. Eventually, this conversation turned into a project, and that project turned into this. Mata Nui: The Music Chronicle is. ‘a tribute to the original 2001-2003 era of Bionicle Gen 1, that introduced so many fans into the world of Bionicle.’ With 10 tracks in total, ranging from across the island and world of Mata Nui, this album seeks to capture that nostalgic MNOG feeling in all of us. Give it a listen if you’re interested, and please share it with others, cheers!
  8. I hope to one day finish my Naming Day fanfic, but in the meantime, check out my electronic, dance-friendly medley of BIONICLE music! Complete with a slideshow! Youtube link I'm an amateur music producer, so I very much welcome constructive criticism about how I can improve the mix. But I must say, I'm pretty happy with how I managed to combine two of the rock songs in the final chorus
  9. Following up on my last entry here is another music questionnaire this one asking the question, "If your life were a movie what would the soundtrack be?" I'll go ahead and say that this one was rougher than most of these questionnaires I've done and that's saying something. Either way, here's mine, go ahead and leave yours in the comments if you want. 1. Opening Credits: “Flood My Mind” – Ivy Levan (ehhhh) 2. Waking Up: “I Think I Love It” – Alexandra Stan (That is not at all like my usual reaction to waking up) 3. First Day at School: “The Man” – Taylor Swift (No comment) 4. Falling In Love: “She Weirdo” – She Nova (Well, I guess beggars can’t be choosers) 5. First Fight Scene: “My Love” – Anna of the North (is that who I’m fighting for? In which case this sort of makes sense…) 6. Breaking Up: “I Like Myself (Most of the Time)” – K.Flay (I guess after a break-up I do need to feel good about myself) 7. Prom “1, 2, 3 dayz up” – Kim Petras; SOPHIE (fun, danceable song so I guess it fits) 8. Life “Don’t Call Me Up” – Mabel (no comment) 9. Mental Breakdown “Strawberry Shortcake” – Melanie Martinez (WHAT WAS IN THAT CAKE?!) 10. Driving: “There Will Be Blood” – Kim Petras (Oh dear Mata Nui no) 11. Flashback: “wish you were gay” – Billie Eilish (I think this one almost fits the story) 12. Getting Back Together: “Ready Set Let’s Go” – KOYOTIE (eh, fine) 13. Wedding: “Just a Boy” – Olivia O’Brien (worst one yet) 14. Birth of Child: “Insomnia” – Daya (no, no, no that’s what comes AFTER they’re born) 15. Final Fight Scene: “That Call It Love” – KOYOTIE (love hurts) 16. Death Scene “You and I” – Owl Eyes (A little too upbeat for a death scene) 17. Funeral: “Mother’s Daughter” – Miley Cyrus (OK, let’s just finish this) 18. Ending Credits: “Ghost 2 U” – Jinka (Could have been worse) Favorites: 2, 4, 9, 14
  10. This is something I've enjoyed doing for years since I first got it from this ten year old blog entry; basically, you take a list of questions, set your Ipod (or any Spotify/Apple playlist) on shuffle and answer each question with whatever song you get. The songs usually make no sense as answers, but it has always been a fun past time. I have a word document that I've been filling with these since 2012, but the last one I did was apparently in 2017 so here's one I did a couple of nights ago (using my best songs of 2018 playlist). Give it a try if you want. Back To The Future: I. What will I dream about tonight? “Outlaws” – Au/Ra (ooh, sounds risky and dangerous and fun) II. What song best describes my love life? “The Medicine Does Not Control Me” – EURINGER featuring Grimes (I don’t like the sound of that.) III. What is my life’s ambition? “Loveless” – Lila Gold (Um, mission accomplished? I think.) IV. Who is my greatest hero? “Deliverance” – CHVRCHES (Deliverance does sound like a cool fantasy character name…) V. What do I want right now? “I Love My Boyfriend” – Princess Chelsea (Well, it almost works because we’ve already covered my love life, but…) VI. What is my dream job? “Side Effects” – The Chainsmokers; Emily Warren (My dream job is a side effect?) VII. Where does my future best friend live? “no tears left to cry” – Ariana Grande (Uh?) VIII. What song fits me the best? “Sweet but Psycho” – Ava Max (This made me laugh, but I’m still a little offended.) IX. What is the real answer to life, the universe, and everything? “Focus” – Allie X (Did you just finish watching “Priest”?) X. What should I definitely not eat? “High Horse” – Kacey Musgraves (No comment) XI. How will I die? “Third Eye” – Emma Blackery (This either has something to do with that Martian episode in the original “Twilight Zone” or Combustion Man from “Avatar” either way not good). XII. What will people say at my funeral? “CEASE AND DESIST” – Alice Glass (I like it). XIII. How will my grandchildren feel about me? “Girl of the Year” – Allie X (Kids these days). XIV. Who loves me right now? “Over My Head” – Echosmith (I had to resist the urge to look up). XV. What is my true identity? “Heartbroken” – Fickle Friends (Ok, I wasn’t sure before, but now I know this list is trying to hurt my feelings). XVI. Who or what is my greatest foe? “This Time Around” – Jaira Burns (In the context of the song, that almost makes sense). XVII. Aliens just teleported me out of my computer chair in a swirl of blue sparkles what happens next!? “Mulholland” – Sizzy Rocket (That teleported me to a highway? Alright then.) XVIII. Any last words? “Everybody Wants To Be Famous” – Superorganism (I’ll take it.) Favorites: 5, 8, 12
  11. I was driving to visit my mom this past weekend and over the course of the two hours on the highway, I tuned into SiriusXM's "Pop2K" station. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that they were doing a countdown of the top 30 songs for this week in 2001. As I listened, I was instantly transported back to August 2001, just as my seventh grade school year was starting. Just like the Toa, I was about to enter a strange, new world filled with challenges and potential new friends. Music has always been an essential part of BIONICLE, from the ambient, techno-tribal sounds of the island of Mata Nui to the pop rock infused chords of the "Ignition" Saga. But even outside of BIONICLE media, other music played a strong role in my associations with the time periods in which BIONICLE was extant. No other time period is perhaps so poignant now, looking back, than in August 2001. Remember, at this point, BIONICLE was in wide release. In the USA, store shelves were filled with Toa canisters, Turaga boxes, mask packs, and assorted Rahi sets. In a few weeks, the McDonald's Tohunga give-away with Happy Meals was to begin. And of course, the BIONICLE storyline was in high gear with new updates in the MNOG and the recent July comic, "Deep Into Darkness". Back to the music, the summer of 2001 was revelatory for me. I grew up in a household where my parents had so far dominated the musical tastes of the family. At home, we either listened to classical music on the radio or, when just my mom was home, Spanish music which I understood little of at the time. On road trips to visit grandmother or longer vacation adventures, my dad would play the oldies' station (hits of the 50s, 60s, and 70s) or, when we had a car with a CD player, his own collection of Beatles' songs. That was pretty much all I knew music to be. Current pop music was relegated to furtive, almost risque, encounters through friends at school. An illicit listen to "M.en In Black" by Will Smith on the bus ride home from school. A friend bringing the new "Astro Lounge" CD to class on Friday for free time. I was never allowed to hear such music on my own at home or with family. There was a weird separation there, enforced by my parents. However, it couldn't last long. By the summer of 2001, I was twelve years old and adolescence was upon me. Instead of the usual mom-administered enrichment activities, my intention to learn HTML coding for the "Build Your Own BIONICLE Website" contest proved to my parents I had undertaken a worthy, educational project of my own, and I was mostly left to my own devices that summer for the first time. Indeed, most of that time was spent reading the HTML textbook and trying out new things with my developing "Tales of the Turaga" website. However, I allowed myself ample free time, particularly in the evenings, to indulge in my other hobby, drawing. I'm not sure when I decided to start listening to music while I drew. Perhaps I did it to softly drown out the noise of my parents watching something boring (but loud) in the living room. It seemed easier to draw when I didn't have TV distractions. But music, especially songs, seemed to bolster my abilities. In my room, I had a small AM/FM radio with cassette player that I started tuning to some of the radio stations besides the oldies'. Although some of the stuff I heard was unremarkable to my ears, other songs stuck out. Songs that reminded of what I heard on my sister's "NOW 5" and "NOW 6" CDs (she, somehow, was allowed to explore music more broadly, and even had a bigger radio, WITH a CD player!) that I knew I enjoyed. Invariably, these songs accompanied some of my first BIONICLE drawings, and when I think about BIONICLE or look back at those crude depictions, I remember the songs I heard back then. Here are some if you want to make a playlist to travel back in time to when BIONICLE was brand new (no Vahi required!). Eve 6 - Here's to the Night Train - Drops of Jupiter Lifehouse - Hanging by a Moment Mary J. Blige - Family Affair Incubus - Drive Michelle Branch - Everywhere Staind - It's Been Awhile Janet Jackson - Someone to Call My Lover Uncle Kracker - Follow Me Sugar Ray - When It's Over Obviously, that's not an all-inclusive list. Mixed in were songs that actually came out the year before (like Matchbox 20's "Mad Season", which is still a favorite of mine), but I don't remember everything I heard, and it is likely I conflate some songs that I actually heard once school started but not during the summer nights that preceded it. Regardless, the music I was discovering and BIONICLE "officially" beginning in the USA all went into a benevolent maelstrom that also included the premiere of "Samurai Jack", the announcement of "Attack of the Clones", the first LEGO Legend re-release (10000 Guarded Inn!), and my first taste of true independence (walking alone to and from school). By this week in August 2001, all signs pointed to a momentous school year ahead. Indeed, as September 2001 proved, it would be momentous, but for the whole nation, and not in a good way. But again, like the Toa isolated on the island of Mata Nui, thinking it was their whole world, me and my friends were united in facing the challenges of seventh grade, and that was plenty momentous enough! 12. This thread will be a place where musicians, past musicians, future musicians, etc. can all gather and talk about things such as: -what instruments you play -what you currently do musically (or the last thing you did) -musical goals -gear (brand of instrument, model (if known)) -musical accomplishments -favorite/least favorite memories from music related experiences (ex: stories from marching band, everything that went wrong before the show, etc.) -anything else you can think of that will fit into this topic So...I am both a trumpet player and a drummer. I am a senior in high school and I play trumpet in my school's top band (which is called Wind Ensemble), Jazz Band, and I play the drums for the school's pep band at the basketball games. So I made it to area on trumpet and I my goal is to make the all-state band and auditions for that are coming up in January so I'm practicing my little tail off for that. As far as gear goes, I love King trumpets. I play on the King 2055t, more commonly called the "King Silver Flair" and I use a King 3C Megatone mouthpiece. Drum Wise, I use Yamaha drums and I use Vic Firth sticks.
  13. Hello everyone. I'm not entirely sure where to put this topic, but LEGO Discussion seemed right. Today, I discovered the full soundtrack from LEGO's 2013 MMO, Chima Online on the composer's website. The composer is named Jeff Broadbent, and I think he did a pretty fantastic job with the soundtrack for the game. You can find all the songs here: https://jeffbroadbent.com/#!/pages/chima Have a great day!

    Music Games

(Sorry I haven't updated this recently, but I joined Reddit recently and was reminded how much fun it is being on a active forum can be) I like music. I like board games (both playing and making them). But, trying to make a board game involving music has always been a challenge for me. -Music Questionnaires can be fun, except I only have three and they get old real fast, plus it's more a solitary activity than an actual game. -Music Top Trumps is a real thing and card games are the easiest to make at home and I'll admit I have a draft for a set written up on my computer, but the "War" card game with cool pictures is only so much fun. -Music Trivial Pursuit? Eh... -Something I tried recently with my sister is I guess "Shazam!" the game. One of us plays a song and the other person has 25 seconds to guess what it is. After each song write, down the time and after ten songs each the person who has the lowest time is the winner. I'm this isn't some revolutionary thing, but we had fun. That's all I got. Do any of those ideas sound interesting to you? Do you have any music games you play with your friends or game group?
  15. So, this past Sunday night I got to see CHVRCHES, one of my favorite bands of all time, play and Karzahni yeah it was great! This was my first time seeing them in concert and also my second concert ever since really getting to music (my first was Haim around this time last year) so that made this a little extra special. The Build Up: My night, of course, started with a lot of waiting. I was in line a half-an-hour before the doors opened, although in hindsight that might have been a little unnecessary considering I had an assigned seat in the baloney and it was pretty empty up there for a while, but c'est la vie. At eight, the opener Cherry Glazerr came on. Now, I'll be honest and say that I didn't know who the opener was in advance although I had been seeing on Facebook the kinds of bands CHVRCHES has had opening for them this tour and they have been some really good ones (Pale Waves, Sasha Sloan, Let's Eat Grandma). I didn't know who Cherry Glazerr was at the time, but I will say I enjoyed their set well enough (I thought their drummer especially was real good). They played for about forty minutes, then there was another half-an-hour or so of more waiting and then... The Track List (I wasn't taking notes, but I think this is pretty close to what it was): Get Out Bury It We Sink Graffiti Under the Tide Graves Science/Visions Deliverance Forever Recover Leave a Trace Miracle Clearest Blue The Mother We Share Never Say Die Thoughts on the set: -Again, I'm a huge CHVRCHES fan and I love all their songs, but if you check out my on Youtube ranking of all their songs (and you totally should) you can tell that a lot of songs they played were more towards the bottom of the list. I mean, I knew they weren't going to play, "Playing Dead" or something like that, but it's just an observation. -The high point of the whole night, for me, was the middle part of their set when they played my two favorite songs off their last album ("Deliverance" and "Forever") back-to-back and then followed it up with 2 more really great songs. -They ended their initial set with my least favorite song off album two ("Clearest Blue") and while "The Mother We Share" is good enough to make the whole night they also finished with a more "meh" song off album three. -You know, when Martin came out from behind the synths I thought they he might start singing "High Enough To Carry You Over" (one of my favorite songs of theirs) and instead they played "Under The Tide" (one of my least favorites), but dang it if Martin still didn't give a great performance. Other Random Thoughts: -It's true what they say: CHVRCHES do put on a killing light show. -It was cool seeing Ian show off his guitar god skills many times through out the night. -The show banter mostly revolved around "Game of Thrones", how Lauren was surprised not only that people showed up, but also that Ian and Martin showed up (the two have a lottery going on how the show will end). Lauren herself admitted to not being a fan. The subject of cheese was also discussed. Considering what she talked about at the very last show they put on I'm kind of glad that nothing super serious was brought up. -I think I'm going to take to heart something Lauren said while putting in her earplugs before starting the encore ("Safety first.") Both because she said that and because of the aching in my left ear that I had for a few hours afterwards. -I just love how before playing, "Deliverance" Lauren said it's one of the songs that might upset people because I'm one of the people who should be upset by it, but instead it's my favorite song off their last album and one of my favorite songs of last year. And that's all I have to say. I had a great time, again it was awesome seeing one of my favorite bands live and I'll probably have their music on non-stop for the rest of the week.
  16. So, I was reading my indie mixtape e-mail today and I saw them suggesting Grime's new demo "Pretty Dark". Of course, I didn't need them to tell me because I've had that song on repeat all week, but I also noticed them attaching a name to Grimes' new album that I hadn't seen before. Apparently it's called "Miss_Anthropocene". This necessitated a google search and I found that Grimes just did an interview with the Wall Street Journal, but since it's hidden behind a subscription wall I suggest everyone just do what I did, which is google it and go to news and read what everyone else is saying about it. Also, the new album is about climate change...which I guess means it's time to buy Marc Marano's new book. In the mean time, I think it's time to revisit "Oblivion"
  17. I wish I said this, I wish I said that But I kinda froze in my tracks I wish I said this, I wish I said that But I kinda had a panic attack I wish I could talk good I wish I could talk, I wish I could talk I wish I could talk good (Although honestly this is how I feel most days. :/ )

    5 Years on BZPower

Yep, today is my five year anniversary on BZPower. Not as impressive as it used to be either when I first joined or when I was a lurker, but whatever. This has gotten me thinking a bit, about how much my life has changed since I first joined and if you read through my profile feed (please don't) you can see me chronicling some of those changes. Me being me, I'm most interested in how much my music hobby has changed since then; back when I first joined my primary means of music consumption were youtube and radio, which just strikes me as kind of funny now. And that's not even mention how much my music taste have changed since then. But mostly my anniversary has gotten me thinking about what the site was like back then; all the members I used to hang out with (most of whom have left the site or hardly visit), the sub-forums I used to be super active in like S&T (where discussion has almost completely died). I remember how I used to post in almost every topic made in BBC, including every entry for that BBCC about video games. I remember that time I tried to join an RPG, how I used to be as active in the CoT games as the G&T ones (not sure why I stopped though), playing Mafia and always being the villager, hosting Hitman. It's all coming back to me. Well, times changed, people grow old, and all good things come to end. Even though you'd think that all BZPower is now to me is a place for nostalgia, I actually am thinking a lot about my future on this place. For some weird reason I just now started my career as a mocist and ain't done yet; plus I still have some ambition to host one more game of Bionicle RISK if I can get enough players. In the mean time I still plan to keep the caption contest going (by the way, is that the most active topic on the site now or am I just being delusional?) Alright, that's all I got, now I'm going to use my new Olmak to transport myself to some random pocket dimension or something.
  19. [context for the 2 people out of the 10 people reading this blog entry who don't know what I'm referring to] Never forget.

  21. https://soundcloud.com/hi-guys-its-disty/powerless-wip Back again with another bonkle-inspired music composition. This one is a bit more cinematic - it's intended to convey the Toa Nuva's sense of impotence, frustration and shame at losing their elemental powers during the Bohrok Kal saga. This was originally created for the Tales of the Amaja collab album, but I chose not to submit it for the final tracklist. https://bioniclefanmusicteam.bandcamp.com/album/tales-of-the-amaja
  22. Hello! I realize I don't post much on this site anymore, I've been busy with college and such, but I've been poking around every once in a while to check in. So it's 2018 everyone! 12 years ago, Bionicle released the Inika sets and they were marketed with the help of popular music in the form of "Move Along" by The All-American Rejects. Looking past gen 1 or gen 2 or whatever gen, if you were releasing a Bionicle wave in 2018 and you were in charge of the marketing for it, would you use a modern artist to help promote the sets? Would you hire a composer to just make some original background music for the commercials? What style/direction would you take the music for said marketing wave? And while we're at it, would you try to capture the atmosphere of the storyline in the song or just try to get something catchy to your target audience to push sales? There are no right or wrong answers. I'm asking to a) just get some good ole' discussion going and b) I'm studying business at my university (and I'm a musician) and using music for marketing interests me quite a bit.
  23. As long as it's related to K-pop and fits in BZP's rules, bring it this way! Post your favorites! Feel free to share song cover videos, dance cover videos, stories about your experiences with the genre and the fandom, whatever. A few guidelines: Keep the fandom wars out of here. I don't care if you're old guard or new guard, boy band or girl group fan, ARMY or EXO-L, whatever. We're all K-pop fans here, let's just enjoy the genre together. So what if someone likes a group you don't like, or dislikes your stan/bias group? Let them be.No bashing. If you absolutely must express your criticisms of a group or even the genre as a whole, do so in a way that is respectful and constructive.Let's avoid discussing the politics of the industry. I'm pretty sure that's a recipe for disaster, especially around these parts. Now, about me. Discovered it in 2006 through BoA and a few hip hop artists (Drunken Tiger, for instance). Sorta forgot about it from 2006-2010 until a friend showed me Abracadabra. Consistently became a fan of the genre between 2011-2016. Jumped on the Gangnam Style hype train in 2012, but now I hate that song because of how much it was milked. Went borderline Koreaboo in 2013 (never went full Koreaboo). Did dance covers for college talent shows between 2013-2016. Was very on-and-off in 2017 because I was losing my spark with it, and it was starting to feel very "been there, done that". Very slowly getting back into it because Red Velvet's new stuff are my jams. I don't like to just identify as one fanclub (SONE, ARMY, EXO-L, whatever). I just like whatever appeals to me. I don't have any strong dislike towards any group. While I genuinely respect the current industry giants BTS and Twice, and like a good chunk of their songs, I personally find them overrated. I think they're good at what they do, but I personally don't see what makes them stand out as much as everyone is making them out to. If someone would like to enlighten me, please feel free to. All that said, let's talk!
  24. I never thought I’d see the day. An actual, official soundtrack release for Bionicle 2: Legends of Metru Nui. This album is everything I’ve ever wanted. One of the best and most underappreciated film scores of all time is finally accessible as a stand-alone product, and sounds better than ever in its remastered glory. Easily my favorite music album of the year (and this year’s had some pretty great music). I realize that not everyone has gotten around to listening to it yet, but to those of you who have and feel like sharing: Do you have a favorite track or favorite set of tracks from the score? If so, what are they? If you remember some of my posts from a few years ago (back when my username was IAmGroot) you may already know what my favorite track is. It is, of course, “Island of Mata Nui”. I believe this to be one of the most beautiful and epic pieces of film music ever. The whole ending scene is honestly one of my favorite moments in cinematic history primarily because of the score. It’s been one of my most-desired pieces of music from the Bionicle films for years, and here it finally is along with the rest of this amazing soundtrack. But I would be remiss if I didn’t make a few other honorable mentions: “Legends of Metru Nui / Toa Stones” “Faithful Matoran to Mighty Toa” (This track is just…wow) “Follow the Light / Mask of Time” “Lhikan’s Death / Vakama’s Power Found” (So many feels) “Lhikan’s Theme Sketch” (I’m sure we all remember letting the menu loop play over and over again just to listen to this gorgeous little piece) The unused “Kikeinalo” theme is also a fun one. It'll be interesting to hear Nathan Furst's unused Roodaka sketch when Web of Shadows comes out. Feel free to respond with your favorite track or set of tracks. I’m interested to know which particular tracks you were most eager to listen to before they were released and which you enjoy listening to the most now. As a side note, I was slightly jarred when I realized that this release isn’t quite the complete score like the Mask of Light release was. Ultimately, however, I don’t mind too much because all the stuff I really wanted to hear (and more) is included, and there’s not much else missing that can’t be uploaded for streaming (or, preferably, released as an extended play). As far as I know, this is all of the omitted music (excluding whatever else Furst composed that was cut from the film): - The Great Disks montage (everything after Vakama's second vision and before the Coliseum scene) - Escape from Le-Metru and journey to Po-Metru (everything after the Toa evade the Dark Hunters by jumping into the chute and before their arrival in Po-Metru) - Escaping with the Matoran (everything from when they retrieve Matoran capsules to when Matau drives into the water) - A fairly brief section seems to have been cut from "Heart of Metru Nui", unless it just wasn't intended as part of the original track and was edited in for the film. It includes the part where they break into the Coliseum in their vehicle (I forget the name of it) as well as the Toa's exchanges of banter during the drive. - This is really nitpicky, but there’s also a brief choir from the opening theme that plays when Lhikan engraves the three virtues symbol into the Toa stone. Admittedly though, I prefer the bit of music that takes its place on the OST version as it makes the track seem a bit more whole.
