  1. ...'Cause I would have played them non-stop. So, needless to say, I wasn't a very happy teenager in high school and back then (as is still true today) when I feel sad or down I tend to listen to sad songs to cope and every once in a while I come across a song that make me thing, "Wow, I really wish I had this song back in high school." Although being honest, my music tastes were a lot more narrow back then so I'm entirely sure if I would have liked these songs even if I had heard them at the time, but regardless here's a short list of the songs I wish had existed in high school. (Also, I've still never learned how to use code so get ready for giant screen stretching videos.) “Normal” – Sasha Sloan Choice Lyrics: "So keep on playing that song that I don't like I just wanna feel normal for the night Keep on kissing that guy that's not my type I just wanna feel normal for the night." Gotta start with a song from the sad girl herself. This song is from early 2018 and I discovered almost the day it dropped. The desire to want to change bits of who you are or to like things that you wouldn't normally in order to gain some level of acceptance by others is, of course, a quintessential part of high school and is actually still something I really connect with to this day so this is a song I've listened to quite a lot. “Nobody Asked Me (If I Was Okay)” – Sky Ferreira Choice lyrics: "Nobody asked me if I was okay No, no, no, no, no, no, no Nobody asked if I was okay," Cheating a little bit, 'cause this song was released in 2013 when I was still in high school, but obviously I wasn't listening to Sky Ferreira back then. Anyway, is this song repetitive and super on the nose? Yes. But, that does that mean that I don't like it and wouldn't have sung along so hard to it back in the day? Karzahni no. “Jesus Christ” – Luna Shadows Choice lyrics: "Or do I divide and fall apart Cause my bright is too slight to hold back all my dark," Alright, to kept it straight. This song was released in late 2017, I didn't start listening to it until early this year while I was on a super Luna Shadows kick, but the song itself is actually a cover of a song from 2004 so yeah, that's that. The funny thing about this one, is that I think what I connect to the most in the lyrics now is different then what I would have connected to when I was younger, which is some interesting food for thought I guess. “mad at God” – Sarah Saint James Choice lyrics: "No I don’t wanna be bitter, or come across as a quitter But I’m getting kinda tired I’m mad at God Causе if he exists why do I still feel like this?" So this song, is actually pretty new and what made me want to do this blog entry in the first place. Other than that, I don't know what else to say about this one, 'cause like Sky Ferreira's song it is pretty self-explanatory I think. Perhaps something funny to mention is it that I mostly listened to Christian music back in high school and I'm pretty sure that this song would not have gone over well with Christian music fans either then or today. And that's my short list. Share in the comments below if you can relate to anything in this entry or maybe share some songs that got you through high school. -JAG
  2. This was the beginning... Exactly twenty years ago, the legend of BIONICLE officially began for me with the arrival of a small box at my doorstep. In that box were two LEGO sets that would change my life. One was Tahu and the other was Turaga Vakama, but in the early afternoon of March 25th, 2001, those were pretty much just random names to me. But by that evening, they would represent characters almost as real as I was. I won't go into the review of the builds, but as I assembled each of the two Fire characters, I sensed something more important was at work than in my previous LEGO set assemblies. The hints were in the pictures glimpsed on the canister and on the instruction pages themselves, but the full effect was only realized when I held the completed Toa in my hands. No more slick CGI; Tahu was tough, shiny, fierce, and seemingly alive. His eyes caught the sunlight in my room just right, and I almost swore they pulsed in brightness, a kind of biomechanical blink. Outside, the effect was even more pronounced. I tried to show this in amazement to my dad, but he dismissed my enthusiasm, already weary of yet another LEGO toy in his son's life. Parents just don't get it. Back inside, I dove headlong into the knowledge locked away in the mini CD-ROM. Just as Tahu as an entity clicked together in my hands, his background and the story of Mata Nui started to click together in my mind. I was glimpsing another world, a world extremely different from my own. Nevertheless, it was a world I could imagine, a world I could experience more of through Tahu and Vakama, and eventually, the other Toa and Turaga as well. That night, I drew the cover image attached to this blog, a portrait of the reassembled Tahu on a crest of sand on the beach. I knew he did the reassembly on his own, but I too had a hand in that. It was a connection between worlds real and imaginary. Even though I was twelve years old and on the tail end of a stuffy and unpleasant sixth grade year, this was a last gasp of the magical in my life, a spark of wonder as adolescence loomed and all these changes threatened to overwrite who I thought I was. Well, twenty years ago today, that didn't happen thanks to Tahu and Turaga Vakama. That isn't to say there weren't massive changes; obstacles and victories alike that would have repercussions for the lives of both my friends and I. I can't speak entirely for them, but I at least was not ever undertaking the odyssey of Growing Up alone. Whatever I faced, I did it alongside the legend of the BIONICLE. And the darkness couldn't stand before us!
  3. are there any particular sets, books, or other gubbins that make you feel awash with nostalgia? Just curious.
  4. Well well well... Here I am again, back with some more "work" As per usual, each photo will be hidden with a spoiler tag so it doesn't take forever to scroll down. And for those of you that are still oblivious to my Instagram account, I'll link it at the bottom Notice that not everything shown here has been uploaded to IG, as I try to stretch it out over the darker and more rainy parts of the year; which means a single post a week with a library of photos to choose from Starting off with my girlfriend's favorite BIONICLE set: FIKOU SPIDER GAHLOK KAL A CERTAIN MASK OF LIGHT SCENE I THINK EVERYONE CAN RECOGNISE TAHU NUVA RESTING ON MOUNT IHU And as the last one.... 5 Years on BZPower

Yep, today is my five year anniversary on BZPower. Not as impressive as it used to be either when I first joined or when I was a lurker, but whatever. This has gotten me thinking a bit, about how much my life has changed since I first joined and if you read through my profile feed (please don't) you can see me chronicling some of those changes. Me being me, I'm most interested in how much my music hobby has changed since then; back when I first joined my primary means of music consumption were youtube and radio, which just strikes me as kind of funny now. And that's not even mention how much my music taste have changed since then. But mostly my anniversary has gotten me thinking about what the site was like back then; all the members I used to hang out with (most of whom have left the site or hardly visit), the sub-forums I used to be super active in like S&T (where discussion has almost completely died). I remember how I used to post in almost every topic made in BBC, including every entry for that BBCC about video games. I remember that time I tried to join an RPG, how I used to be as active in the CoT games as the G&T ones (not sure why I stopped though), playing Mafia and always being the villager, hosting Hitman. It's all coming back to me. Well, times changed, people grow old, and all good things come to end. Even though you'd think that all BZPower is now to me is a place for nostalgia, I actually am thinking a lot about my future on this place. For some weird reason I just now started my career as a mocist and ain't done yet; plus I still have some ambition to host one more game of Bionicle RISK if I can get enough players. In the mean time I still plan to keep the caption contest going (by the way, is that the most active topic on the site now or am I just being delusional?) Alright, that's all I got, now I'm going to use my new Olmak to transport myself to some random pocket dimension or something.
  6. This topic is for you guys, gals and non binary members to tell your story of how you discovered BZPower. Was it a IRL friend that showed you or simply stumbling upon this place by accident? How I discovered BZPower. Back in 2015 when Bionicle came back I got very excited and desided to relearn the Matoran language. In my internet search for a Matoran alphabet I stumbled on a post of someone proposing with a wood-burning in Matoran. Wanting to read more about this bionicle themed proposal I discovered not just one bionicle related topic but a whole forum dedicated to Bionicle. That forum being BZPower. I soon created a account and joined this amazing community.
  7. As I'm sure you all noticed, yesterday was BZPower's sixteenth anniversary, which is a pretty impressive milestone on the Internet and in the LEGO community. With sixteen years of history, there have been a lot of memorable moments from our time in our home on the web, and we'd like to hear some of yours! 8. Hi, guys. Noticing my topic and having nostalgic feelings about Bionicle G2's end last year (Link: http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/25062-its-been-a-year-since-bionicle-g2s-end/?do=findComment&comment=1132118 )? Well, I would also like to use another way to remember that horrible by making this other topic, which is about making sad speech about the terrible cancellation. So, what would you like to say to remember the cancellation last year. For me, I said this in Instagram yesterday: "Last year, on July 29, 2016, a franchise, and primarily a Lego action figure toy line, called Bionicle 2015-2016, or Bionicle G2 as many Bionicle fans would like to call it, had been cancelled suddenly by Lego after two years of running for some strange reason. This is the second time it happened, as the first was in 2010, when G2's predecessor, Bionicle 2001-2010, or G1, got cancelled. G2 is the reboot of G1, and it is about a group of six bio-mechanical and heroic warriors called the Toa, who have powers based on elements of natures, saving the island of Okoto from a villain named Makuta and his evil helpers, including Skull Creatures, Umarak, and Elemental Beasts. The Toa are Tahu, Gali, Lewa, Kopaka, Pohatu, and Onua, and their powers can create and control Fire, Water, Jungle, Ice, Stone, and Earth (as in ground), respectively. The Toa also have to collect magical golden masks called the Masks of Power, which can enhance their powers, awaken the island's good-hearted ruler named Ekimu the Mask Maker, find magical and legendary creatures called the Elemental Creatures, and find legendary masks called the Mask of Creation, Mask of Control, and Mask of Ultimate Power during their adventures. Many fans, including me, felt extremely sad to see Bionicle get cancelled again. We were also extremely sad about Bionicle on its first cancellation, and waited four-and-a-half years for its return. We were so happy, as it was a big part of our childhoods. When Lego announced Bionicle's return on September 2014, during my birthday, I considered it to be my birthday present. I went to the New York Comic Con 2014 convention to see it happen, and it was one of my greatest moments of my life. I liked G2, and it got some neat stuff, like new builds, artwork, and a TV show in Netflix. It broke my heart when the second cancellation happened. Man, this is like The Amazing Spider-Man movie series in 2012-2014 all over again. There may be no replacement coming this year, but hopefully next year. I hope Bionicle will come back again, too, maybe next year as well. R.I.P., Bionicle, again. You are missed. Long live it, too." (crying in tears) Here's the link for this speech: https://www.instagram.com/p/BXKB696FiyT/?hl=en I also made a post showing the Toa Uniters and Ekimu putting their masks on their chests to show their sadness about the cancellation. Here's the link for this, too: https://www.instagram.com/p/BXKCI0alMsY/?hl=en Well, there you have it. What speech would you like to say to our dear Bionicle G2's cancellation last year.
  9. Back in 2002 a very young boy started playing with a line of toys known as bionicle. That boy would someday become me. I feel there is no one person you can thank for this theme. So many people worked on it to make it what it was. And now that's it's gone (possibly forever), I feel the need to thank them. My childhood wasn't the easiest. However this theme was a light through all of it. It was something that always made me happy. No matter what it did. It was a thing that defined my taste in story. Ever since the days of viewing promos on mini discs the theme always left me awed to some degree or another. Even as a near adult I look at my old canisters and sets and think of a time long before now. Of different people, different places, a different me. In a lot of ways a happier time. And this theme was present throughout that time. It was always such a great feeling to get a new set and open it up, see how it all goes together. And those characters were genuinely inspiring to me. Some of the earliest heroic characters I can recall. So I would like to thank everyone involved in G1 for all of this. And I also thank the G2 team. We may have had different ideas on how to handle the theme but you were clearly doing your best with what you were given. You wanted the kids of today to grapple onto bionicle like we did. And although it may not have been a success your efforts will not be forgotten. Thank you for reading. Feel free to post whatever you like here.
  10. So, I was randomly looking up how much old LEGO sets were going for these days, and I typed in bzpower into my browser on a nostalgic whim. To my surprise, not only was the site still here and looking familiar, but my account username is too! So, engage old man voice: I was here at the beginning... When it was just 6 Toa. The first Toa. I still remember seeing the original 6 Toa in LEGO magazine for the first time, and ordering Kopaka on the phone. And yes, I still have my entire Bionicle collection in my parent's basement. I plan on keeping them for my future kids, and telling them how much fun I had with them. I've already had the fun of showing them to my nephew! Looking back at my old brickshelf account, it brought back happy memories. Memories of jumping into a fantastic world every day after school. Spending long hours reading the comics, making my own comics, playing MNOLG 1 and 2 (Mata Nui Online Game), and making my own creations from the sets (do you guys still call the "MOCs"?). Looking back at this account, I was also reminded of forming this other, imaginary identity, "Soru," who never had much storyline, but was essentially myself in the Bionicle universe. At such a crucial time in growing as a kid, this character - my online and imaginary Bionicle self - was perhaps actually somewhat important to developing aspects of my personality and imagination. I remember feeling really at home in this online community of kids excited about the sets and storyline. Excited about fantasy and imagination. Anyway, I thought it would be fun to post and say hello from a Bionicle oldster. And I won't even mention how ridiculous the last few years of Bionicle sets look. (They don't make 'em like they used to...) Here's to Bionicle, here's to LEGO, and here's to fun, imagination, and creation.

    Minor Annoyances #2

Today's topic is Everything on this nostalgia-blinded fool's channel. Watch just one of his Bionicle videos. No further explanation is required.
  12. What is your favorite year of Bionicle, taking into account sets, comics, and other media? Please answer the poll and explain why in a reply. Mine personally would be 2008. The Adaptive Armor is my favorite design for any Toa, and finding out that the Makuta were a species was cool. There were also a lot of cool sets released in 2008.
  13. What is your ultimate dream in terms of BIONICLE sets or collectibles? It can be anything, big or small. Personally, I would like to get every set from 2008. That is the year of BIONICLE I remember most vividly, and, unlike most people, I REALLY like the Adaptive Armor. I hope the title doesn't count as religious discussion.
  14. My fondest memory is problem on a rainy day back in '04, building Vakama, Whenua, and Nuju. Another is me going out to Toys R Us and buying them on a bright sunny summer day. A fairly recent one is going down to brickfest, and seeing some of the old bionicles, and then getting back into Bionicle and the fandom and hearing about 2015 sets and preparing for those. ...then there's me earlier this year at 12:00am on New Year's Day trying to find all the 2015 sets, going from store to store. But yeah, here's where you can share the memories of bionicle!
  15. What is your favorite BIONICLE set, and why? Was it the first one you got? Do you enjoy building it? Does it bring you feelings of nostalgia? Does it just look cool to you? Let me know! I personally can't pick, but it would probably be a set from 2007 or 2008.
  16. I was going through a lot of my old drawings, and I decided to take pictures of them and share them, well at least the ones dark enough to see them. I have tons more, but these ones seem to look the best on my old camera. I also edited them by increasing the levels of darkness on them so they can be seen better. Plus it made a cool bronze effect making them look like forgotten cave drawings. Most of these drawings are just concept art, while a few are fanfic characters The gallery to my old drawings is located here. (Also, feel free to look at my other artwork here.) Here is an example of some old concept art: I actually liked many concepts and ideas from 2006, but I was never satisfied with the movie or how they explored them in the story. Anyway, enjoy my old artwork, which to me is quite nostalgic.
  17. I think the question is self-explanatory. NinjaGo is special to me because it brought me and two of my best friends together. I remember when I first found out that two other kids in my class liked LEGO, we instantly started hanging out. But it wasn't until we found out about NinjaGo that we really drew close. About a third through the school year, one of them brought in a LEGO Magazine page. It had a promotional, 'sneak peak' image of Kai doing Spinjitzu with Frakjaw peering over his shoulder. I looked NinjaGo up as soon as I got home, and I specifically remember every moment of staring in awe at the promo site. The next day I came in and spilled everything I'd read on the website, and we nearly exploded with hype. We held many NinjaGo tournaments, drew our own NinjaGo comics, even decided to try our best and make a stop-motion NinjaGo episode - we had a ton of fun. NinjaGo will definitely hold a place in my heart for making fourth grade the best school year in my life. How about you guys?
  18. Hi, guys! I know that Hero Factory has ended, but I would like to talk about what reminds you of Hero Factory of any way, so you could possibly feel nostalgic or not forget about it when you liked it. We know that other Lego themes (DC Super Heroes, Marvel Super Heroes, Legends of Chima, and Bionicle) have CCBS, like Hero Factory as it inspired them, but I would like to talk about rarer things (the CCBS is a common trait nowadays). For me, the things that remind me of Hero Factory are: 1. Bionicle 2015's upcoming Skull Scorpio kind of reminds me of Scorpio from Hero Factory's Savage Planet (because of the name). 2. Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie reminds me of Voltix because he had a similar tone in his voice at one scene as I can remember and targets on a power plant like Voltix did in the Breakout episodes. When Electro breathes electricity at another scene, that reminds me of Dragon Bolt, too. 3. Bane from The Dark Knight Rises movie reminds me of Core Hunter because his mask is similar, but without CH's telescopic eye pieces. 4. In The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, how the company attempted to defeat Smaug the dragon reminds me of how you could defeat Dragon Bolt in the Brain Attack game, where you could use certain things around your area to beat the powerful dragon easier. 5. The Rhino from TASM movie kind of reminds me of the giant Invasion From Below monsters and the Heroes' mechs because Rhino in like a combination of one of the monsters and one of the mechs by piloting a giant mech with a rhino-shaped head that also kind of looks like the IFB monster. 6. In Transformers: Age of Extinction movie, how Lockdown killed Ratchet reminds me of Core Hunter's ability to take Heroes' Cores out. Core Hunter was never showed taking out a hero's core in any episode, but Lockdown kind of does give the description of how this could happen (well, in a dark way). So, there. You see what I'm saying? What do you guys think?
  19. What was the first Lego theme that you were a fan of? Mine was Lego Harry Potter. I've been a fan since I was 5 or so (2003). It wasn't until 2006 that I discovered Bionicle.

    Old LEGO

I was cleaning up my room a bit and dug around in a few boxes. To my bemusement, I found an old Exploriens' box! While this is the oldest box I haven't recycled yet (I've recycled everything except Bionicle canisters, which up until recently were used as parts storage), the oldest set I still have built is a RoboForce vehicle that is sitting on my shelf (gathering dust). The Exploriens are my favorite LEGO Space theme, but I suppose at some point in my childhood I felt the need to take this set apart but was never compelled to do so to the RoboForce one. At this point I don't really feel like I should, if only to keep a bit of my childhood around (as well as a variety of figs). Also unearthed was a tub of Bionicle things I didn't miss: Piraka spines, Kanoka, Rhotuka, Kraata, Zamor, and some torsos from 2008 and on. I reorganized my Bionicle collection late last year but never said, "huh, I wonder where those Piraka spines are." But, I know they have building potential. (I wonder if the Rhotuka and Kraata are worth anything in my BrickLink store....) Oh and I found the LEGO Club BrickMaster CD with Bionicle comics #1-25 on it! Now I can reread most of the story (seeing as how I have no idea where in my house the physical comics are, despite now wanting to bag and board them). Just another day in the life of an AFOL! -CF
  21. First blog entry of my now lifetime premier membership. Might as well use it to reminisce. -- I joined BZPower in August 2007, when I was 9. Made my fair share of extremely young and nooby posts, but I loved it. It was my first forum that wasn't the LEGO Message Boards. I remember the crackpot theories about the Mahri and Matoro turning evil, I remember the immense RIP Matoro signature fad, I remember the Great Dataclysm, the outcry of when it was announced BIONICLE would end. I may not have been here from the start as a lot of you have or as active as people who joined after me, but I certainly wouldn't call any other place on the internet home. I'd like to thank all of the great admins, mods and members alike for creating such a awesome place that's still running after all this time. I don't know where I was going with this post, but hey. Figure it out as I go, that's my motto. Sincerely, a now 7 year older member (And wow, is it weird to think I've been registered on BZP for 7 years.) - Makuta of Metru Nui
  22. So I had a huge Nostalgia rush today, and decided to dig through my sets to see what memories they held (yeah, I know that sounds cheezy). Surprisingly, they held a lot of memories. Me and my friends having battles with our Phantoka, Inika and Glatorian sets, reassembling our sets into goofy figures, playing the Battle for Power games on the Bionicle website with my friends, watching The Legend Reborn with my friends...pretty much all my best Bionicle memories were when my friends still liked Bionicle. *Sigh* Good times. Anyway, I pose the question to you. What are your best/most nosalgic/whatever Bionicle memories?
  23. In the time before time, the Great Spirit descended from the heavens, carrying we, the ones called the Matoran, to this paradise. We were separate and without purpose, so the Great Spirit blessed us with the three virtues: unity, duty, and destiny. We embraced these gifts and, in gratitude, we lived the remainder of our days with these three virtues embedded into everyday life. But our joy would not remain perpetual. Mata Nui's brother, Makuta, sought to make the world his very own, into a twisted regime of darkness, tainted and corrupted by the shadows, a reflection of his own heart. And so he struck; breaking their pact of unity, removing him from his duty, and ultimately, cast him out into the depths of the unknown, far away from his destiny. Our world crumbled before our very eyes as fear consumed our reality, and every dawn was a new waking nightmare. There we were, in an existence without the Great Spirit, left to fight for our own against the onrushing and all-consuming evil. Mata Nui, however, was not to be so easily defeated. In a last desperate attempt to save the very denizens of his world, struck back against Makuta, and in a titanic battle shaking the very foundations of the worlds themselves, the Great Spirit achieved victory, but only at the cost of his own life. The curtain of darkness was ripped from the skies, the stars no longer muted by its overwhelming presence, the land and its people came to prosper in this seldom-obtained time of peace, and a new era began. Our happiness was not to last. This new world was a paradise, but as the laws of the universe govern, entropy will set in, and chaos would reign superior once more, and a chaos never witnessed before struck us. This time, our saviour was nowhere to be found. Mata Nui had left us with nothing else but the three virtues, and as centuries passed, these came to be forgotten as we combated the unknown, having long since given up any hope on the ancient legends our valued virtues were founded upon. Legends told of a mighty team of Toa, heroes borne of the very elements, who would vanquish the evil that threatened to engulf us, but these were mere ancient legends of Mata Nui, were they in any way true, or mere deceptions, to prevent us from ever losing faith? As popular Matoran sayings go, the Great Spirit never lies. Prologue Turaga Vakama paced about his chamber, staff in hand, the wise village elder deep in thought. Every so often, he would pause in his tracks and take a quick glance out of the large window of his dwelling, staring at the heavens above. It was night, but the pitch-black sky was clear with the exception of a few scattered stars littered across the horizon. To the untrained observer, the night sky was one of the few constants that remained in the harsh world they lived in, and held little significance for any of the Matoran villagers. All they hoped for was that the dark blanket above would not be the last sight that greeted their eyes. However, to the ancient village leader, Vakama, this sight was not only most unusual but unprecedented. From the day it all started, what many had termed “The Conclusion”, the stars had begun to vanish from the skies, one by one, until the heavens were a sea of inky black, and it remained so for millennia, unchanging, perpetual, permanent. That all changed on this very night. The Turaga was initially unsure of what to feel- unbeknownst to the Matoran, these stars were not some mere decoration, but they represented something. Something that was an alien feeling to these villagers. Something the Matoran had never known in their lifetime. This something, was hope. A small smile spread across the wizened old Turaga’s lips as he realised, after centuries, perhaps there would a day where they perhaps, could celebrate. However, that day was yet to come. The stars were few, but they illuminated the darkness above. It seems we were foolish to have forsaken the wisdom of the past. There is much left to be accomplished, but the signs are there. All is needed to pierce the darkness are a few lights. He had seen enough, and the aged chieftain plodded to his sleeping quarters, resting his staff against the wall as he went, content with his newfound knowledge. As he drifted off to sleep, one thought echoed throughout his mind. They are coming. Review Topic: http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/12375-review-the-stars-above/
  24. While doing some Googling earlier, I accidentally stumbled upon this little webpage created by Turakii from some years ago. I didn't even remember this existed until I found it. Not sure how old it is, exactly, but it's from at least 2008, if not older than that. I even contributed to it. Lookit: Even funnier, almost all of those facts are still true (except for the last one. In recent years I've managed to exceed 100% awesome ). I haven't read through all of it yet, but I've already spotted the names of a few members who aren't active anymore, but it's surprising how many of the members on the page are still active. It brings back a lot of fond memories of the old BZP, especially during the 2006-2008 years. I'm sharing it here because I thought other people, especially older members who contributed to the list, might be interested in reading it. Nostalgia and all that. -TNTOS-
  25. Hello all, and welcome to my Epic commemorating my return from BZP hiatus of around 5 years, give or take. This story takes place on the island of Metra Nui, and is set in the same reality as the Core Dimension, albeit some time after, and deliberately written in a way similar to the storyline circa 2001, though with changes here and there to prevent it from being a rehash. Prologue Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8
