Dino 2012 Theme

In my honest opinion, feathers make dinos look all the more girly. I personally dont believe in the feather theory but that is just me (creationist). I am really glad that they have Dino Lego Bricks again and you guys are just complaining about whatever you can. If they didnt have big pieces then they would just get lost easier (remember Lego Bricks are for kids as well).Just appreciate we have Dino Lego Bricks this coming year and that it can be compared to Jurassic Park. I am very excited in seeing them and wish you guys were as well. I agree with Bionicle Raptor, we dont need feather dusters as lego figures.

How does being a creationist make it so you can't believe dinosaurs have feathers? We've had pretty good fossils that suggest dinos had feathers, and I don't see how dinosaurs are required to be bald for God to have created them. http://www.bzpower.com/board/public/style_emoticons/default/tounge2.gifAgain, I don't mind the lack of feathers seeing as I prefer LEGO figures without their textures being too complex. The only way I can see them doing feathers would be to add a "lumpier" surface texture to feathered areas, and I think that would take away from the simple elegance of the new Dino figs.
I dont believe in Evolution is why, not going to start a debate or anything but I am happy with how they look. You say "suggest" as it is not seen everywhere, just a few and a theory. There are so many dinos without feathers that people wouldnt see these sets as true dinosaurs. Adding feathers or anything like that would just be too complicated for them, the designs on them are quite nice as is.

I still fail to see why you guys are surprised the sets are showing up now. Its not early, every year for as far back as I can remember the winter assortment sets of next year have shown up within the first two weeks of November in anticipation of holiday sales. Usually Bionicle (or Hero Factory) start to show up the first week of December. Shouldn't be much of a surprise except to maybe brand new Lego fans. The fact that 2012 sets are being added to Shop at Home should only reinforce this.Edit:Now that Shop at home is up with Dino stuff, we have piece counts! Updated the first post as well. For those on a budget, here's a price breakdown most AFOLs use:5882 Ambush Attack $11.99 80 Pieces 15¢ per Brick5883 Tower Takedown $19.99 136 Pieces 15¢ per Brick5884 Raptor Chase $29.99 259 Pieces 12¢ per Brick5885 Triceratops Trapper $49.99 271 Pieces 19¢ per Brick5886 T-Rex Hunter $69.99 480 Pieces 15¢ per Brick5887 Dino Defense Headquarters $99.99 793 Pieces 13¢ per BrickI'll be picking up Raptor Chase probably on Friday and will hopefully have a review done by the end of the weekend.

Went to TRU today, found the dino themes. I picked up Ambush Attack; It's pretty cool.

jimistringer.png

Why are orange and black such a good color Combination ? Purple is pretty, and so is blue. Pink hurts your eyes, green is quite mellowing, black is very threatning, red is cool, orange is SO awesome, yellow's hard to read... But you can't see white at all! Oh, wait. I forgot brown.

Here's my thoughts: If a person tells the truth and says, " I always lie," Is he lying? Or is he telling the truth? And what has a mouth, but no head, and a body, but no torso? Do caterpillars like to tend to supporting colum of stone's every need? Or is that name misleading by nature? Speaking of nature, why are the children of animals called offspring? don't many young beasts come alive in spring, and thus, should be called onspring? Heeeeeeyy..... I got the first post on a page for the first time. Who knows; it may happen again. What the... It did happen again... and again...

YEAH! I'M ENCOUNTERING PROTODERMIS!

I wish LEGO would stop revamping old themes (This is just the theme "Dino 2010" all over again - and it isn't the only theme that's been reinvigorated of late) and would try out new niches of sci-fi and fantasy. Granted, the sets generally look nice (if only the figures and structures weren't yellow...), but they still don't excite me much.

First of all, this isn't just a revamp of Dino 2010. This theme seems deliberately styled after things like Jurassic Park, whereas Dino 2010 was just a defanged version of Dino Attack. This theme is much better, because it's designed from the ground up as a more ethical Dino theme, rather than a theme of militaristic vehicles with all the weapons removed for some reason. Plus, the Dinos in this theme actually are more realistic than the "mutant" dinos of Dino Attack and Dino 2010.Secondly, LEGO revisits old themes because they continue to be popular long after the theme has been discontinued. With themes like City, the theme remains constantly popular, but with themes like underwater themes, or dinosaur themes, the popularity fluctuates such that such a theme is not able to be released every year. I see nothing wrong with revisiting a theme once that theme's sets become outdated. And LEGO does still break new ground in themes; just look at Ninjago to see how they can continue to create original ideas.

I just got Ambush Attack and triceratops trapper. The ATV in Ambush attack is amazing, the Triceratops is amazing in Trike Trapper. The giant vehicle is cool as well, but I looove the Triceratops. It's very accurate. I want to get Raptor attack next, because that Utahraptor is awesome. I'm not sure about T-Rex Hunter, as since I don't own the set, but the T-Rex looks rather oversized.

Toys R Us. After getting Ambush Attack, I then got out some baseplates, found as many grass/green pieces as I could, and made a small scene where a terrified Dino minifig trudges through the jungle, with only the slightest clue of the Carnivore hunting him. I'd post pics, if it weren't for an arrow in the knee but I don't have a camera.

Still only have Ambush Attack and triceratops trapper, but i got sometning like $130 for my Birthday, so I'm planning on buying Dino Defense base and Raptor Chase. I also wanna get T-Rex hunter but not as much, as my love for Dromaeosaurids (especially Utahraptor, which is the Raptor in this line) overrides Tyrannosaurs. Also, the DDB has a T-Rex in it that looks better IMO, so I'd rather have that.I don't really want the Sea sets w/ the Pteranodon though.

Ah. Looks pretty sweet. I don't get the Antlantis-Egypt-Alien-Dino thing though (from the magazine).

That's just a traditional LEGO holiday crossover comic. TLG used to do them all the time in the Mania Magazines. I don't think it plays a significant role in the official story for any of those themes, it's just TLG's way of keeping all the sets they want you buying in the spotlight while simultaneously teasing you with one of their new/upcoming themes.

I got the HQ set and it is amazing! The dinosaurs are spectacular. I love the raptor an rex and the printing is superb. The HQ itself is amazing too with a fun build. I reccoment the set highly. I think I might even do a review on it.6686653073_75015158a5_z.jpg6686638915_8269cc6fea_z.jpg6686636269_133be39bf6_z.jpg6686648473_aa3f9ffa05_z.jpg I hope these photos work. I highly reccomend this set. It is easily worth your money and was a fun build, a great base, with great playability. Plus who can resist dinos? I would like to thank Eeko for helping me getting these pics to work with my thick head. Thanks Eeko!

It's not bad, Dino Attack was better though.

Honestly in my opinion this is way better. The Dino attack dinosaurs did not even look similar. You could call them mutants but there was no resemblance at all. These are realistic which is great.

Well, I liked that they were fighting against the Dinos.

I like that these are more realistic. They are fighting against dinos though. They just are not using guns and rocket launchers to kill them. They are sedating them and then imprisioning them. I also prefer the vehicles in this line except I like dino attacks helicopter alot better. I think this line improved on dino attack and I hope we get a second wave.

Yes cool the HQ is amazing. The T-rex is huge compared to a minifig. I reccomend you get one if you get the chance. I am hoping to cet the triceratops set next. The sea plane also looks nice. The raptor set will probably be my nect one though. I want a pack of raptors so bad. I wonder if there will be a second wave. i have a feeling there won't be one for the summer, but there could be one next january possibly. I mean kingdoms second wave was next summer.

Hopefully it won't be like pharaoh's quest and possibly alien conquest, which got closed after the first line. :(I'm also thinking of getting the coelophysis set.-CDP

I like every set in this line. That is quite an achievment on LEGO's part. The potentiol for a second wave is endless. Imagine a carnotaur, a liopleurodon, spinosaurus, apatasaurus, or a stegasaurus. It would be amazing.

@bambi The set is wonderful. I had so much fun posing the dinos and minifigs alone. The HQ is huge and has a fairly detailed interior which is awesome. There are also pins in the back which can allow you to add more sections to it. I think LEGO might make a add on for it if there is a second wave.

Every couple of years, I swear Lego seem to insist on bringing out a dinosaur theme, same as space and underwater, which they're never able to just drop. I can't see this lasting too long, and they'll probably all be poorly desi-OH MY GOSH, I WANT THAT DINO DEFENCE HEADQUARTERS!

Oh I definitely agree. I'm so sick of seeing sets that I bought years ago being brought back slightly modified or a slightly different 'story' with prices jacked way up. And after all, Dino Attack was just a revamp of Alpha Team.

What is this I don't even.I don't see how the new Dino theme's sets are anything like past Dino themes besides that some are vehicles and some have cages for capturing dinosaurs. The main research base set is unlike any set in a previous dino theme, with a large enclosed area, various opening gates, and a spectacular viewing area. The T-Rex set has a Skycrane, the first depiction of one in any LEGO theme. Dinosaurs have enduring popularity-- the fact that TLG wants to try and take advantage of that doesn't at all mean there is nothing original or novel in their second or third attempts.

This is getting off topic but I strongly oppose everybody believing every dino had feathers. I personally don't believe that birds evolved from dinos and reptiles. SOME dinos had feathers but anymore people think that T-rex even had feathers. I pesonally think deinonychus did not have feathers. I believe velociraptor, troodon, and some others did but, I can't see deinonychus, utharaptor and other large dromaeosauridae's having feathers. On the topic of it being a revamp. Is every theme that has had dragons a revamp of dragon knights? Seriously it has similar elements but is NOT the same at all. This is way different than dino attack. The only sets that have any resemblance to dino attack are raptor chase and ambush attack. Just because it has dinos does not mean it is a revamp of dino attack. Edited by reptiman

There is fossil evidence that points towards dinosaurs having feathers, though. What makes dinos having feathers any different from dinos having scales? You're not forced to believe birds evolved from them if they had feathers any more than you're forced to believe reptiles evolved from them if they had scales. I'm trying not to get this into a religious debate, but there's no reason to assume that because scientists draw certain conclusions from the fossil evidence, you're forced to disagree with the evidence itself. After all, it's perfectly within a divine creator's power to give dinosaurs feathers, scales, or even polka dots if that creator so chose.Anyway, moving on from that subject, what do people here think of the ethics of this theme compared to past Dino themes? Naturally it's less violent than Dino Attack, but at the same time it has plenty of weapons compared to Dino 2010 and Adventurers Dino Island. There are lots of tranquilizer guns and even flick-fire missiles. Plus, the vehicles and base are equipped with lots of spikes, presumably for defense.Personally, I think it strikes a good balance between the ethics of past dino themes, with the dino hunters being ethical but also pragmatic enough not to face the dinos without any sort of defense. The tranquilizer guns are an effective way for the dino hunters to subdue the dinosaurs without having to use violent force against them. And the spikes and barbed wire seem like more of a deterrent than something that would be used to deliberately hurt the dinosaurs.Speaking of deterrents, I've noticed that in the research base set, the fence is presumably meant to be electrified to further prevent breakouts. But the sticker sheets show some conspicuously snapped wires, so that reduces the base's defenses and makes the situation a bit more dire. I think this was a very good design decision! It evens the odds a bit during play. The only problem with it is that there's no way of showing the wires intact, and I can't think of any way this could be done effectively that wouldn't be obtrusive during play.
