Ekimu and Makuta: The Mask-Makers

Recommended Posts

I watched the animated film for Bionicle 2015 on Facebook. And then I wanted to make these.

Ekimu:

Makuta (Before Mask of Ultimate Power):

I tried to make the Mask Makers as close as possible to their appearances in the animated film, in an attempt to see what they might be like as sets. Comments and criticism are welcome!

The masks were as close as I could get them, by the way. The Mask of Creation and the Mask of Control aren't in LDD yet (Obviously) so I compensated.

Ekimu and Makuta's builds seem to be based on the Fire Protector's build, but with some variations. Notably, instead of using the shoulder connection of that set, they use gearboxes akin to those of the Toa. The biggest issue with your version in terms of accuracy is the use of a larger torso beam—Ekimu and Makuta use the small 6x5 torso beam, with the chest armor attached to the "shoulders" and new shoulders built from the gearbox. But the biggest issue in terms of the overall look is the neck—it's way, way too long, probably in part because of the torso beam you chose.

You also seem to be relying a little TOO heavily on the CCBS. The new sets feature Technic HEAVILY in their builds and weapons, and Ekimu and Makuta are no different. So, apart from the custom shoulders that the gearbox would allow for, the weapon you have is a lot bigger and clumsier than the simple Technic-based hammer that Ekimu uses in the animation.

But it's a good first try! I'd encourage you to look at both the official pictures of the sets and photographs from New York Comic Con to get a better feel for what the new sets are like, to get a better idea of their similarities to Ekimu and Makuta. If you want to try incorporating a substitute for the gearbox, I have a Flickr album with lots of pictures of it, which should give you a good idea of its dimensions of the part and how it all fits together. I've also designed a pretty decent version of Ekimu on LDD myself, which I could also get screenshots of to share with you if you really want... but I'd much rather see you figure it out for yourself. Good luck!

Oh and also, I think Ekimu's hammer has the pieces used on Iron Man's shoulder cannon.

I think that Ekimu's hammer is actually made of two of the new rapid fire launchers, just the animation style made the pieces look simpler.

Thanks for all of the comments everyone, especially Lyichir! :)

I think Ekimu has a gold Hulk chestplate with blue printing.

Ummm... He has the same chest as the Fire Protector. I don't really think that an Onua chestplate would fit on a Protector. :)

Noted.

And Lyichir, will this make you happy? http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Makuta-Miras/EkimuAndMakuta/ekimu2.png Ekimu, mark 2! Using a near-identical chest build to the Fire Protector, and a hammer with the cannon pieces. :) I may have gone a little overboard with the shoulder armour though...
