Today The LEGO Group is celebrating International Women's Day early as well as the fortieth anniversary of its now iconic, 'What it is is beautiful,' ad campaign. They are launching a new initiative to champion gender equality and encourage girls and young women to chase their aspirations. Always loved this ad. I did not realize how old it was, though. Seems like a great campaign, it's splendid to see how LEGO has become much more inclusive in recent years.   ^_^ I do hope they welcome all to participate in the photo recreations, though. I imagine a lot of children would want to create the classic ad regardless of gender. 

 This subject brings back memories of joining a (unoffical) LEGO building club that apparently had an unwritten rule of being boys-only, and being upset with the lack of female minifigures in 2005-7 and making my own with Sharpies and cut-up rubber doll hats. Glad this isn't necessary anymore.
