BZPRPG - Onu-Wahi

The Wahi:

Onu-Wahi is the region of Earth on the island of Mata Nui. Although Onu-Wahi does include surface areas, very little of the outside was ever developed. The prominent features of Onu-Wahi are mainly located underground, connected by tunnels carved long ago by the Onu-Matoran and other more sinister things. Dangerous Rahi, some of which are largely unknown, lurk in the dank underground caves of the region, which not even the bravest Onu-Matoran have fully explored. Some natural tunnels carry seeping water from the surface, filling several of the Wahi’s caverns with frigid subterranean lakes. Local landmarks include:

  • The Great Mine: An expansive mine network near Onu-Koro where Onu-Matoran miners and prospectors toil to excavate its precious resources. Its shafts, which reach deep into the earth, provide many of the raw materials used in other villages across Mata Nui, such as Protodermis and various metal ores. The mine also includes the Marn Tunnels, annexes to the Great Mine around the Wahi.

  • Cavern of Light: A lightstone mine in Onu-Wahi. The main supply of lightstones for the island is located here. Its entrance is located in a tunnel network connecting Onu-Koro to Ta-Koro and Le-Koro, and the cave itself is only accessible with a special key.

  • Papa Nihu Reef: An archipelago of rocky islets that spread out over the waters outside Onu-Wahi. The mainland shoreline is composed of dark beaches and blank landscape, and the islets themselves range in size and shape but remain mostly desolate, save for the occasional rookery of birds.

  • Onu-Koro Highway: An old tunnel connecting Ko-Wahi to Onu-Koro. Members of the Ussalry regulate the end in Onu-Koro to weed out undesirable travelers.

  • Le-Koro Highway: A tunnel connecting Le-Wahi to Onu-Koro, similarly guarded.

  • Darkmine: The cavernous former lair of the necromantic Brotherhood of Ak’rei’an, this system of gothic caves, which branches off from an abandoned underground highway, was cleared out by the Ussalry in the recent past. It is now an Onu-Koronan fungi farm.

  • The Dark Walk: One of six large tunnels dug by Makuta’s Rahkshi during the final days of his rule. Large enough to encompass a walking legion, it runs directly from the doorstep of the Koro down into Mangaia. Exudes a definite aura of odiousness, and is generally avoided.

The Koro:

Led by Akiri Nuparu under the motto "Ever onwards to Prosperity", Onu-Koro is located in a huge cavern in the middle of Onu-Wahi. It is a massive bubble in the earth with ceilings that vanish into the darkness above and walls littered with well-guarded gateways. The Koro is the central hub of a network of highways and tunnels that link it with the other parts of the island and with its mines. It consists of huts made of dark stone interwoven with a maze of metal pipes transporting water, gases, and even objects, around the Koro. A cool stream cuts down the middle of the village and is bridged by several pedestrian walkways. The village is lit by lightstone streetlamps and the glow of forges.

The center of the village has a main marketplace where tinkerers sell small ornaments and gadgets. The middle rings of the Koro are residential, peppered with other establishments like stores and eateries. Engineering plants push up against the village’s crowded edges, always bustling with activity. The smell of metal and the smoke of production fill the cavern of Onu-Koro as foundries built there smelt mined ores and turn them into machines. The industrial gases and other wastes are siphoned off to the surface through ducts high in the roof of the village.

Nuparu now occupies the great hut once used by Turaga Whenua and directs the village’s progress with clear vision. The clever hands of Onu-Koro manufacture technologies of progress for the entire island; but they keep as many inventions secret as they sell. Nuparu is very careful about which technologies the Koro releases, controls trade with a stern hand, and places great importance on security.

This lead to the expansion and technological armament of the formidable Ussalry, housed at its three stables around the village. The Ussalry defend the Koro and the Wahi around it and, due to the great influx of money and trade of materials, they consistently patrol Onu-Koro’s borders and check everyone and everything going in or out. The highways connecting Onu-Koro to the island at large have been greatly expanded to accommodate the movement of technologies, and are always patrolled by guards and escorts.

Recently Akiri Nuparu has pursued a more equitable distribution of Onu-Koro's considerable and still-growing wealth. Citizens of the Koro are guaranteed an allowance of the basic necessities of life regardless of station, work or species. Also of note is the construction of the Onu-Koro Academy: the Onu-Koronan branch of the newly-formed research alliance between Onu- and Po-Koro. Brilliant minds are being searched for to add to this burgenoning R&D hub, and technological achievements in the two Koros go back and forth through this institution.

IC: Nuparu and Wiremu (Onu-Koro)

It was the sort of habit that Nuparu never thought much about, the stuff he was in the middle of doing.

Even now when he was technically supposed to be going somewhere, he was poring over an iStone that was thankfully well-protected by a well-worn casing. His eyes flicked back and forth with rapt attention, taking in the information contained within for the millionth time.

"Eyes up and ahead sir" came the gentle reminder. Nuparu insisted on walking himself, he wanted to be approachable! Just walking through the streets on his own two feet, just one Ussalry member along as an escort.

He narrowly skated around a wall, avoiding colliding with it as he shuffled his feet excessively to maintain his balance. So caught up he had been in his work notes. It was much the same as it always was with him, just that the exact content had changed.

He looked up, seeing the entrance to his destination, and it gave him a smile. He headed up, and knocked on the door, there was no answer.

"Shall we go in?" he asked, out loud, and didn't bother waiting for an answer.

Wiremu hadn't bothered answering the door, he knew who it probably was, at least he dearly hoped so, random strangers walking in on him unnanounced was... something he tried to forget had ever happened.

As if suddenly struck by a frightful portent, he suddenly turned around from where he was packing to peer down the hall to his entrance, and got a relieved sigh to slip past his lips as he saw it was indeed Nuparu.

"Are you finished yet, Wiremu?" Nuparu asked as he approached him where he stood with his head peeking around a corner, his guard remained outside.

"Just about, I think... maybe" Wiremu answered meekly, not particularly inclined to show the rest of him where it was currently very safely ensconsed behind stone wall.

"You know that anything you need to send for later is gonna get to you right away," Nuparu assured his friend, "it's not like we're not going to stay in contact.

"Of course, of course!" Wiremu replied energetically, seeming as if he was talking to himself just as much as to Nuparu.

Wiremu was in fact quite stressed. Not much of a surprise, he was leaving Onu-Koro for the foreseeable future. It was going to be a serious adjustment to take up residence in Po-Koro of all places, but Wiremu wasn't going to let a little bit of travel anxiety actually stop him from doing his job and supporting his friend. He had gotten to hear a lot about Nuparu's ongoing plans for their "Great City", as he had increasingly taken to calling it in private conversation. Wiremu was never one to get turned off by a grand, ambitious project.

"How am I getting there?" he asked, after an awkward silence.

"We have an Ussal caravan ready to take you. The Roads are clear and safe for the moment..." Nuparu stopped himself, the hesitation borne of a creeping sense that both of them knew, but didn't dare speak out loud just yet. Nuparu was snapped out of his funk by Wiremu suddenly giving him a hug.

"It's going to be a lot, but I'll do my best. I'll teach people to put their minds to the benefit of all" Wiremu declared. At a loss for words, he had settled for reciting his job description. He got an approving nod from Nuparu.

"That's just what I needed to hear. I know you'll do what you can to enlighten new minds. You've got a good head on your shoulders, Wiremu. Always have. It's time to find someone new to bounce ideas off of."

The newly-minted Academy instructor nodded and broke the hug, then turned to grab his luggage.

The two Onu-Matoran walked together through the thriving streets of Onu-Koro. It seemed like activity was at an extra powerful peak today. Perhaps it was just a result of the fact that the... general sense people had of What Had Happened really made people want a distraction. Nuparu certainly didn't blame them. He wasn't sure if he or anyone else was ready for this, but there was no taking anything lying down, no more today than way back when it all started. Onu-Koro was stronger than ever, and the engineer had plans to make it stronger and more prosperous still, for as long as it would take.

IC: Pae - Onu-Koro - ???

Pae's protosteel hammers met their mark.

Teeth and blood sprayed up into the air, a small geyser of gore, flying into the dim light of the hallway. Before the teeth even began to fall, Pae had stepped forward, gazing at the eyes of another Toa, still watching the blood in the air. With his Kakama, Pae jolted forwards, skidding past his target, hooking him in the kneecap with a strike of the hammer. The toothless (and now dead) Toa hit the ground with a loud thud, just before the second Toa dropped to his knees. Pae turned around, and before the being could gather his wits, he made one hard full-armed swing, sinking the head of a hammer into the back of his skull with a sickening crack. Quick, but too loud. Pae wasted no time moving. His green Kakama lit up, and he vanished down the hallway and around the corner, stopping in his tracks when three rather mean looking Matoran, holding enormous disk-launchers with explosive payloads, levelled the weapons at him. In a split second, he knew that even the Kakama would not get him there in time - at least not all of him - if those explosives went off. They were simply out of range.

Fortunately, he - like the others - had studied the building layout well, and knew that just behind him, further down the hall there was a rather large window in perfect view of the building across the street, just a story below where Nika would be posted. Without skipping a beat, Pae crouched down and prepared to dodge whatever Matoran may be left standing.

IC: Nika | ???

The dagger flew true, burying itself in the chest of the Lesterin who had been pushing their way through the bedroom. Nothing but dead weight now, they toppled backwards, tripping up their former comrades who had following the stairs -- and buying Nika a few seconds' respite.

The hunt for the Turaga Killers had started feeling like a dead end these past few weeks. Without any real leads, the three of them had been trying to piece together what they might have expected if a job like that were being pulled today. Without a buyer and without a sellsword to put a name to, Nika had suggested trawling through the middlemen in this equation: the widget launderers. It wasn't much, but it was the best lead they had so far.

The brute squad was already getting back to their feet behind him, but Nika only needed a second to the pull the trigger. A sliver of lightstone went flying, burying itself into the back of one of the Matoran's head in a burst of illumination. The Vortixx didn't have time to reload a second shot -- his assailants were already in the room with him -- and so he did the only thing he could think of and leapt from the window--

--and looping his rifle around a string of lightstones running from the building he had fled from and towards the building in which Pae was fighting.

He just hoped that Pae could deal with the other two fighters before he landed there.

IC: Ussalry Members (Onu-Koro)

Windows getting smashed and people fleeing in panic from the sudden outburst of violence was just the sort of thing the esteemed Ussalry were primed to answer to when the need arose. It could seem as if they, too, had been a bit extra jumpy in response to the general 'something' people had some sense of lurking in the back of their minds. Two multi-story buildings so far had become a source of violent commotion, and a patrol was on the way, armored crab mounts and all.

OOC: Going off what I can gleam from the posts so far, just PM me if any of this is out of step with what you have going on.

IC: Pae - Onu-Koro - ???

The moment Pae crouched down, he heard the sound of glass shatter behind him, and a single shard of light stone flashed through the air. The other two Matoran seemed taken off guard by this, one instinctively ducked while the other took aim again, attempting to fire. It was too late. A protosteel hammer flew through the air, guided by Pae's powers, and found itself removing the Matoran's jaw. He leapt into action, sprinting towards the pair. The first Matoran hastily pulled the trigger before taking aim, and the disk landed at Pae's feet, blasting him into the air, trailing dust and debris in his wake.

This had gotten far too dangerous, and worse, noticeable. If Pae couldn't make it to the guarded room quickly, their criminal mark would be gone, and they'd be at square one again. This operation had taken days of planning, and even though Pae knew often it was best to cut their losses, he knew he and his companions were simply running out of options. He purged this thought, as he locked onto his target, taking aim while still flying, and whipped his second hammer forwards. There came a satisfying "thunk" as the hammer struck the mask of a Matoran, and a second, deeper "thump" as he landed feet first on his chest, knocking him to the ground, cracking ribs with his full weight and strength of his legs. Pae put out his hand towards the Matoran still standing, and drew the first hammer back to his palm, striking his target in the back of the skull, knocking him clean out.

Pae heard the crashing of glass from outside, and more shouting. If the Ussalry was not already here, they would be on their way very shortly. The plan needed some serious acceleration, and immediately.

IC: Nika | ???

Nika landed in the hallway just as Pae had finished mopping up the rest of the resistance. The ones that they could see, anyway.

"Saw crabs incoming," he said as he climbed, painfully, back up to his feet. Even then, his hands were busy loading another sliver of lightstone into the cartridge of his rifle. "I'll buy you some time. You get the mark. Meet at the rendezvous."

IC: Ferron (Ferron's Forge)

Ferron sat back in his chair, having just closed his business for the day. He had brewed up something warm to kick back with and let the feeling of a day's work well done sink in. Ferron had always been a man of fairly simple tastes.

The Turaga didn't even register the metallic glow that one of his hands gave off in the light, as opposed to the other one, anymore. Physical scars could never again bother him as much as mental ones, and even those were starting to lose a lot of their bite. It was a certain irony that the most visible scars he bore had ultimately wounded him the least, one that Ferron had to admit was worth noting.

He smiled very slightly to himself, and took a sip of his coffee. Life wasn't all that bad, really.

IC: Oliphko (Onu-Koro)

For Oliphko, even simple actions such as knocking on someone's door could cause great anxiety. The fact that the door belonged to the dwelling of her mentor didn't help, especially because it had been a while since she had met him. She worried that she was interrupting him, or that he wasn't home and she would have to awkwardly leave, or that he was no longer interested in being her teacher, and so on. For a while, she simply stood in front of the forge. After some Matoran who passed by glanced at her in curiosity, she was finally driven into weakly knocking the door. Once.

After a moment she figured a single knock was inappropriate and quickly knocked several more times.

Ferron perked up, a little surprised to be getting someone knocking on his door at this time. Was it Tuli, perhaps? He hadn't seen his assistant in a while...

The door swung open, and Ferron's expression was somewhere between surprise and delight as he saw Oliphko stand there, evidently nervous beyond words.

"Oliphko, what a pleasant surprise" he said, pushing the door fully open and stepping aside to let her in.

"Please, come in, have a seat. How are you doing?"

She was a little startled by the door swinging open, but quickly regained her composure. With a nervous smile she entered the building. "Oh, um, I'm fine, thanks for asking! It's been a while, hasn't it? But don't worry I still remember what you've taught me so far!"

There was a brief silence as she looked around the forge. "So um, what have you been up to while I was gone? Busy at work?"

"That's the long and short of it" Ferron answered, "I've also been taking lessons at the hospital here in the Koro, actually. Figuring out what my mask can do, still not completely used to this one" Ferron admitted, gesturing to his face.

Of course, the mask he wore that looked like a Noble Pakari was in fact a Mask of Healing, forged into the misleading shape as a matter of preference for the look of his old, original Kanohi.

IC: Nuparu (Onu-Koro)

Nuparu had returned to his office, under mild duress from the departure of Wiremu. It was going to be a considerable amount of work to manage the affairs of the Koro without him, but Nuparu knew it was worth it in the end. He needed to focus on building alliances and regaining friendships. The people in Onu-Koro were broadly behind him, he was fairly confident of that, but that was far as he was willing to draw his assumptions for the moment.

Perhaps it was the simple awareness of this nebulous "something wrong" that was spurring him, but he was concerned about the safety of his Koro in a way he hadn't been in quite some time. The important part was that it not paralyze him with inaction.

"Akiri, a message for you from Akiri Hahli"

"Hmm, of course, give it here"

The message was, thankfully, not a sudden cry for help that brought all of Nuparu's worst fears to life, but grave news it was no doubt.

"I need to speak with Onepu right away!"

"Do you have anywhere in particular you'd like to start, or pick up? I'm still figuring out this whole 'Turaga' thing right along with you, so I'll take the help I can get"

She tried smiling back, feeling less nervous already. Her fears appeared to have been unfounded. "Um well, as long as it isnt combat training, I guess I'd be fine with anything! Why not practice meditation or discuss the philosophy of the Three Virtues or something? Or if that's too boring, how about more practice with using elemental powers?"

Deep inside she knew that her greatest weakness was her lack of fighting skills, but she simply refused to admit it. She still stubbornly believed that violence could always be avoided, somehow.

Oceanna strummed her guitar as she warmed up. She couldn't believe she finally got a music gig, it was just too bad it was at this #### inn.

"No one appreciates the struggles of an artist..." She strummed her guitar some more, sure she'd made a killing hunting Rahkshi, and sure she got a bad### staff for the trouble, but it hadn't helped her in becoming a famous guitarist at all! If only her voice was as good as her skills with the guitar.

IC: Onepu

Captain of the Ussalry and right hand of the Akiri, Onepu was right where he was supposed to be, and also right where he did not want to be: his desk. He was also doing what he was supposed to do and not what he wanted to be doing: paperwork. But he ran a tight ship, blast it, and he knew that the unpleasant work was usually also the most important. The protosteel of the Ussalry couldn't stand without a paper and ink backbone. That wasn't his quote though, he had heard it from someone else. Regardless, that was why he was currently kicking his feet up onto his desk, fiddling with his crystal knife, while poring over a criminal's file. It was a small-time mook- bodyguard for some widget launderers- but for some reason he couldn't quite place, he felt uneasy about it. Like he had heard his name, or the name of somebody in the report somewhere before but couldn't place it. The thought bugged him so much he actually re-read the thing, which made his assistant hesitantly point out that he still hadn't signed the attached form yet. He did so absently, then with a grunt, set the file aside. One last glance at it, then back to the next task. On the plus side, there wasn't that much paperwork to do on an average day, and soon he would be able to go out and coordinate a patrol in person.

OoC: @Geardirector Here you go!

IC: Aar and The Howler

There were more than just crabs incoming. In the center of their formation, a great metal behemoth lumbered along, one of the handful of new top-of-the-line Exo-Matoran suits. Nicknamed The Howler for the way its wheels seemed to roar as it pulled itself along at Ussal speeds, which had the added benefit for warning people to get the Karzahni out of the way when they heard it. The idea had actually caught on a bit, and some engineers had started work on an audible signal to universally announce the arrival of Ussal crabs, and to warn people to make way. They were going to call them "sirens". That was neither here nor there though. What was here was a great Rahkshi-steel contraption that pulled itself along on two great arms like some Rahi out of a miner's nightmares, and Aar had the great honor of being its pilot. The past two weeks had been training. This was its first field run.

And it wasn't just any test either. From the sound of things, they were going to have to deal with a real threat- at least one extremely skilled Toa. The unique capabilities of the mech could prove to be a necessary advantage. The target was in sight. Aar prepped the stopping gear as the building rose high, then slammed on the lever, folding the suit's wheels in, bringing it to a skidding halt on broad metal feet, as the crabs did the same around him.

The fact that he was asked for "immediately" didn't actually impress much urgency on the Captain. Nuparu was something of an excitable type, after all- inventors seemed to always be getting excited over the most mundane things, by his reckoning- but that didn't mean he would mozy about either. A request from the Akiri was a request from the Akiri, and an invitation from a friend was also an invitation from a friend.

He also was happy to receive an excuse to get up from his desk.

"I'll be happy to oblige," he said, getting up from his seat. "Do you know what Nuparu wants with me?" he asked as he reached for his satchel and slipped his arm under it. He reached for his dolabra, but decided against taking it this time, instead just slipping a throwing disk onto his back. He doubted he would have any need for it, but there was something of a status symbol to it. Both a ranged weapon and a shield, every Ussalman carried it while on duty. And plus, you never knew.

While Ferron was distracted, she breathed a sigh of relief as she managed to avoid combat training. When he turned back to face her, she smiled. "Sure thing! I've done it quite a lot. I guess this means I can be the teacher this time?"

She noticed how he had packed some supplies. Even though it was possible to meditate anywhere, she figured Ferron wanted to go to a more peaceful place. The Koro was quite noisy after all, so it was probably hard to focus. "Where do you think we should go? Maybe that cave we were in last time?"

"Yes, I've got a need to get out for once." Ferron answered. The Smith had a certain spot in mind, too. He was still feeling a persistent need to revisit certain places when he found the need to. It had gotten easier as time passed for the Turaga to settle into the role he associated with that word, but even so, his head was still occassionally stuck in the past, and reconnecting with it made it something for him to deal with. At least he wasn't being plagued by hallucinations anymore.

Another messenger passed Onepu on his way, apparently the Akiri was quite busy at the moment. It wasn't until Onepu was shown inside Nuparu's office that the Akiri remembered to straigthen his posture and clear away some of the clutter on his desk. Perhaps a pointless gesture in the face of an old friend, but Nuparu was never one to be particularly graceful in the social sphere.

"And here I was hoping this was a social call," Onepu smirked. He took his seat, slipping his disk from his back and leaning it against the desk. His smile shrunk slightly, more serious. "I imagine this is important if you didn't send the messenger with more details."

"I wanted to keep this behind closed doors for the moment, but I'm going to release these news soon enough." Nuparu admitted, grabbing a document that had been recently opened.

"I've recieved grave news from Akiri Hahli. The Dasaka, the people we made contact with from beyond our shores, scores of them have arrived in Ga-Koro as refugees. Their homeland has been swallowed up by monstrous hordes, Rahkshi hordes."

"I think we should do what we can to help. Wouldn't you agree?"

Akiri Hahli. It was kind of a funny thought for him still. He'd had little dealings with Ga-Koro lately, but it didn't seem like so long ago, Hahli was a little blushing lily nobody knew about. He couldn't even say what she used to do for a living before. He would have expected Kotu, or maybe even Nixie, to take over in Nokama and... Maku's absence. But from what he'd heard, she had really taken to the position with all the grace and dignity the position warranted. Of course, he would have said much of the same of Nuparu. Maybe it was just because everyone always expected the Turaga to be around forever.

Setting the thought aside, Onepu was a little more apprehensive than he suspected Nuparu was. Sitting back in his seat, he rubbed his chin in thought, mulling the matter over. Rahkshi were always bad news, in small or great numbers. But he knew nothing about these Dasaka. Nuparu trusting them went a long way, same for Hahli, but he needed more information if he was going to give his all to the matter.

"Help is warranted, absolutely," he agreed. "Doing all we can, though... Well, this is my first time hearing this. I don't even know what a Dasaka is, or how reliable their story is. As things stand, I'm of course in favor of helping Ga-Koro deal with the situation, but Onu-Koro's own resources... I'd have to know more. What else has Hahli told you?"

IC: Ferron (Ferron's Forge)

"Great, then let's go" Ferron exhorted. He stood upright, as much as his posture let him at least. He lead the way out, beginning to walk through the streets in the direction of the exit to one of the great highways leading out of the Koro itself.

"I know enough to determine that we've got more than enough to share in considerable abundance" Nuparu retorted, his hand skating past an active iStone with his hand to make the screen scroll down pages upon pages of notes.

"So that's what we're going to do. I'm not interested in holding off on showing generosity when there's people in need, especially not now." Nuparu went silent for a moment.

"You've felt it too, haven't you? There's something in the air that I haven't felt in a long time. Something that's... wrong with the world around us that I can't place."

"The Dasaka aren't the source of this, they're largely an unknown, this feeling is familiar somehow."

"I'm going to send an offer to provide whatever material support there's a need for, and an offer to house any of the refugees who need somewhere to live"

He cleared his throat, hoping his hesitation hadn't upset Nuparu. Maybe it was just his imagination, but it felt like he had been scolded a little... And maybe he deserved it a bit. He wanted to explain his hesitation, but Nuparu's question silenced the subject like sand quelled a flame. He grunted his agreement deep in his chest. "The island's on edge. So am I. It's part of why I'm hesitant to send the Ussalry anywhere else." He bobbed his foot in thought for a moment. "I don't know about it feeling familiar... To be honest that sounds a little superstitious. But then again, so did Turaga Whenua... And I trust you as much as I trusted him. So I'll follow your instinct, my friend." His nod was warm as he said it, but he couldn't bring himself to smile, the steel in his eyes conveying the truth of his words instead.

IC: Oliphko (Onu-Koro Tunnels)

She followed him into the tunnels that led out of the Koro. It was pleasantly quiet there as the noise of the settlement faded away. Underground, there wasn't even any howling wind like in Po-Wahi, so it really was the best place for meditation. But at the same time, the darkness below made her uneasy for some reason.

"Um, Ferron, while we're walking, can I ask you something? Have you had this... strange and ominous feeling recently? It's, um, difficult to describe."

"I think I know what you're talking about" Ferron answered with a nod. It was a feeling he had been happy to do without for as long as it had lasted. The Turaga's metallic hand clenched involuntarily. He didn't have much more to say on the matter.

IC: Montague (The Unfortunate Fikou, Onu-Koro)

Dearest Sister,
I write to you now with the greatest excitement. I have made my pilgrimage to Onu-Wahi - staying in a delightfully quaint little inn, The Unfortunate Fikou, fret not for my safety - and begun the process of narrowing down possible locations for the site, and I do believe that I have found it at last.

I know you have worried about me in these recent weeks; the recent troubles in Ko-Koro certainly took their toll on me, that I will readily admit - I cannot remember the last time I had a proper night’s sleep, troubled as I am by these nightmares. You fear, I know, that I have become obsessed, but I assure you that it is quite the opposite! I seek only to put this behind me, and I fear that the only way to put it to rest is to see this out to its conclusion. With knowledge, I find, comes peace; it is quite impossible to be afraid of that which you have seen and understood, and in this way, I hope to put an end to those terrible dreams.

But I digress; I meant to write to you of my discovery! My theory of some psychosomnic phenomenon is all but confirmed, as the dreams have only increased in intensity by proximity, and - and! - I am not the only one having them. This, still, is but a suspicion, but I assure you that it is well-founded. I have made the decision now to go b̶̡̝̱̝̯̳̖̟͌͊̆ͅȩ̷̡̢͍͓̤̱̯̜̫͍̩͂̓̽̈́̏̔̈́̓̆͒͊͗ͅl̸͙̫̖̞̝̫̪̖̉̈̓̍̄͆̓̆̂̈́̒̃̕͝ó̴̧̨̧͉̦͈̲̯͍̦͚̍̓͋̈́̊̈̆͒̓̓͊͂͘̚͜͜ͅw̶̧͕̥̯̗͐̈́̌͐̓̈́̐̉̈́̋͝͝- My word! I’m afraid my pen has begun to leak. I will finish this letter here, sister, as I have much to do, and I will surely make extensive notes during my investigation. I hope to write to you again soon, in possession of terrific knowledge, and an archaeological discovery for the ages.

    With love,
        Montague

Taking great care, Montague folded the letter, fed it to the envelope and sealed it. Fed it? My, what an odd choice of words; you are rather in strange form today, Montague! To suggest that an envelope could ĥ̵̢u̵̥̔n̸̨̿g̶̣͠e̴̤̕r̷͇͘. Quite absurd, old sport, quite absurd.
They had already prepared the poster - and fine it was, too. Without a doubt, it would attract those like Montague themself, those who h̸̢̛̒̋̀͆̈́͐̈́̃ừ̷̰̘̠͖̝̒̉͌͑͝͝ņ̴̥͈̠̫͕͓̮̞͇͛͑͝g̷̰̱͚̻̹̠̫̲̖̅̃͋͊́̓̋͋̃͆́̊͘̚ͅe̶̙̺͚͇͆̆͜r̸̟̱̋ȩ̷̪͉̑̀́͒̑̆͆̕̚̕͝d̸̢̨͚̤̼͚͉̞̱̍͊́̓̈́̇̄̅̚ for knowledge.

Quote

Friends and countrymen, lend me your eyes! I come to you, a Matoran of science, to investigate a most unusual phenomenon: an epidemic of dreams. You see, I too have had them - the strangest visions of deep water, and the urge to venture b̴̬̈e̵̘͌l̵̟̎o̶̦̾w̷̫̔. Well, in the interest of knowledge and research, I intend to do exactly that! I am seeking fellows of a similar disposition, who have likewise had this odd experience, to join me on an expedition into the d̶͖̈́e̸̱͝ĕ̷͉p̸͚̓; to go with me in search of histories hitherto unknown, and solve a most fascinating mystery.

Montague’s name, and the room and inn in which they were staying, were clearly marked below, so that any inquisitive soul might easily find them. And now, to wait.

IC: Oliphko (Onu-Koro Tunnels)

There was an awkward silence as Oliphko expected Ferron to elaborate, before realizing that he wouldn't. "Oh, um, well that's good... I hope it's just a feeling that goes away."

She didn't want to talk more about it either, so the rest of the journey was silent.

Their walk continued in some silence, all the way to the point where they could see light at the end of the tunnel they were walking down. They emerged out onto a rocky beach, the tunnel leading out to the open coast of Onu-Wahi. Ferron lingered at the mouth of the entrance for a moment, wordlessly.

"Haven't been back here since..." his own thoughts trailed off. He had something he needed to attend to. He walked towards the waterfront, stepping out into a narrow little path that stuck out into the water.

She followed Ferron, unsure of where they were going, but nevertheless trusting the Turaga. He probably knew a good spot for meditation. Her first doubts only appeared when they appeared near the coast, with the silence of the tunnels being replaced by the crashing waves of the ocean. Covering her eyes as they adjusted into the brightness, she stepped outside, still following him despite feeling more uncertain than before.

"Um, Ferron, where are we going, exactly?"

IC: Ferron (Papa-Nihu Reef)

Ferron threw out an arm, looking over his shoulder at Oliphko. The look in his eye was... harried. He somehow looked even older now than he did normally.

"Wait here, give me a moment," he croaked, "I... just have something to do."

Ferron made it all the way out to the end of the little outcropping that stuck out into the water. His eyes scanned the surroundings... no. Time had taken its toll on the place, the physical signs were all gone now...

He held out a hand, wordlessly clutching his chest with the other (for once it didn't matter which hand was doing what), his eyes closed. He felt his way forward with only his powers, pushing his awareness onto a plane where all he could sense, in a way indescribable, was that which was made up of his own element.

Into the water, down... down a little more...

There it was!

The coffin was lying on an uneven plane. The head of it was resting against a rock, the other partially buried in the whirling sands of the seafloor. It was still perfectly intact, just lying there, preserved by its little spot secluded from the world.

Ferron breathed, the salty sea air and the atmosphere of the moment beckoning him to feel something a lot bigger than he was, but he didn't, and that was okay.

"Hello, Zuriana," he mumbled very quietly to himself. He didn't say anything else, just bowed his head to the water...

IC: Pae - Onu-Koro - ???

Pae turned, nodding to his companion. Considering how quickly the Onu-Koronan response time to the crisis had become, the team needed to make immediate progress, or get out.

"We may have to leave," he said simply, before vanishing down the hallway again. Of course, the capture of this particular mark would be a boon to the Onu-Koronans, but they didn't know that. As far as he was concerned, any Ussalmen directly their way would have to be dealt with. There was more at stake. It didn't mean it was worth an all out battle between the team and the Ussalmen.

He skidded to a stop at the end of a hallway now, kicking it open full force. If the plans for the building had been correct, and the mark was acting in the way the team suspected they would, all Pae would have to do is drop a floor. He set to work with his hands, feeling for any metal beams to rend apart. It would have to be precise, and happen all at once, or the risk of the mark escaping would increase.

OOC: @Void Emissary@ARROW404 sorry for the delay everyone!

IC: Oliphko (Papa-Nihu Reef)

Oliphko did as Ferron told him, standing behind him and waiting. She stared at him in visible confusion as he reached out for something in the water. It was already bad enough that her mentor was acting strange, but all the wetness around her made her uneasy as well. She had never seen so much water in one place, having lived in the dry desert valleys of Po-Wahi for her entire life. The sight of the vast ocean was overwhelming.

She heard Ferron mumble, but didn't hear what he said. Her anxiousness was getting the better of her, so she spoke up: "...Ferron? Are you alright over there?"

Howler screeched to a halt amid the crabs around it. The Ussalman leading the charge raised a conical tube to his lips and yelled. "Everyone in the building is hereby ordered to stop all hostilities, put down their weapons, and approach the windows on this side of the building with their hands where we can see them!"

Aar fine-tuned his mech's grapplers and prepared to climb the building. Whether they cooperated or not, the ussalry was coming.

OOC: Tarnok, Kellin, Cancer, Leli from Ga-Wahi

IC: Leli [Tunnels]

The sky above was engulfed at once as the four of them made it to the entrance to one of the multitudes of tunnels that crisscrossed under the rocky, desolate surface of Onu-Wahi. Leli, laying back against Cancer's shell with one leg bent, watched as the stars above disappeared into just plane darkness one by one. It was unsettling, as if they were being swallowed whole by the earth itself. Perhaps it was just because her night vision wasn't anywhere as good as those that lived in her Koro. Especially when they passed underneath one of the lightstone lamps hanging from the wall, the sudden increase in luminosity all but destroying what she could see of the surroundings for a moment.

Blinking the spots from her eyes, Leli sat up letting out a small huff, resting her head on her knees as she hugged her legs. Traveling wasn't... the most exciting thing for her. She tilted her head to the side, enough to get Tarnok in her line of vision, the Onu-Matoran having elected to walk for a bit on their trek, and wordlessly watched him for a time.
