Hello. This is the first time I've ever posted an Epic and also the first time I've ever posted in the Library Forums. This story details my interpretation of the adventures of the Shperus Magna and Matoran Universe characters after the 2010 storyline. As the post 2010 story serials have not updated in some time and appear as if they will stay dormant indefinately, I chose to write around some of the loose story threads in them as I have no idea what Greg was planning for them (for example I'm choosing to write around the Red Star plotline) The review topic can be found here http://www.bzpower.c...?showtopic=4586

Bionicle Evolution

Chapter 1With a slow grinding and clanking noise, the lift began to rise. Onua’s eyes were already struggling to adjust to the light as he came up from the depths. He was nervous, for he was not only climbing up towards the light, but also back towards the inquisitive eyes of many beings. The Toa Nuva were heroes again. It had happened a few weeks ago in those tense hours of chaos after the end of it all. The Toa’s mortal enemy, the Makuta, had finally been vanquished once and for all thanks to the power and bravery of the Great Spirit, Mata Nui. Makuta had stolen the Great Spirit’s original form, a massive mechanoid which had contained the world the Matoran and Toa had inhabited. This had posed a problem. For as Makuta fell dead upon the ground of the reborn Spherus Magna, the mechanoid began to shut down, and in three days its systems would completely collapse, dooming all within. It would be impossible to evacuate a universe within that time, but the Toa could not abandon the Matoran who had endured so much to get to this day.The Toa didn’t have to face this challenge alone however. The inhabitants of this new world, the Agori, were quite willing to help those who were aligned with their friend Mata Nui. Indeed, the Agori had experience in this department, having weeks ago had unwittingly dragged ancient robot parts across the dessert to serve as a village. Mata Nui had latter used that massive robot to fight Makuta, and it to lay destroyed across the land. This new challenge was more difficult though. The Robot the Agori had assembled was smaller, it hadn’t contained the additional weight of universe within it, and the Agori had only moved separate parts, not a cohesive whole. But it was crucial that the robot be moved. Makuta’s defeat had caused the robot to fall on its side, meaning the level of death and destruction within would only increase once the internal gravity stabilizers failed and the Matoran fell away from the landmasses. But they had succeeded. Organizing quickly, the Toa realized that enough beings with the enhanced strength of a Kanohi Pakari might just be able to pull the robot onto its back. That’s were the Toa Nuva came in. With four Kanohi Pakari Nuva at their disposal they split up, gathering a large group of Agori, Glatorian, Toa and other beings with each of them to different areas along the side of the robot. Cables were anchored to the metal hull, and together they pulled, all strengthened by Kanohi Nuva and their ability to share powers. Thousands of beings, all gifted with enormous strength, pulled in unison, and slowly the robot began to move unto its back. Momentum increased and the metal giant, propelled by the planets gravity, began to fall over. Sensing the danger, the Toa Nuva quickly summoned their Kanohi Kakama Nuva so they could evacuate their groups several hundred miles from the robots impact. The robot was now in a position where the failing internal gravity of the universe was aligned with the natural gravity of Spherus Magna. In the days that followed, aided by exidian and protosteel tools, as well as Toa of magnetism and iron, they had cut holes through the top hull of the robot. Now the evacuation of flying beings would be easier, and the natural circulation of air and sunlight through the holes would keep the eternal environment somewhat habitable once the robot’s backup systems completely failed. It was towards one of those holes that Onua was now ascending. He was on a lift that had been constructed to carry beings and valuables out of Metru Nui’s dome. He had made many trips like this one already, carrying useful supplies and equipment down to Spherus Magna. After reaching the top of the robot’s head where the island of Mata Nui previously existed, he would descend down the side using scaffolds constructed by Matoran and Agori. After handing his load off to a transport caravan, Ouna triggered his Kakama Nuva and sped towards New Atero, a citadel, that once completed, would be a haven for beings from both worlds. As he ran, the world a blur around him, Onua’s mind returned to a matter gravely concerning him. It had been over a month since the Makuta’s defeat and still no sign of Lewa had been found. Kopaka and Pohatu had covered many kio, but all they had found were the remains of a nightmare. Now the Toa had separated, each to pursue matters most pressing to them.“This is not good”, thought Onua as he arrived at the outskirts of the growing citadel,” I thought we learned the error of forsaking unity back on Mata Nui.”--------The two masks were inches from each other. There were eyes filled with uncertainty behind one of them, but the other was empty. Not even the metallic stitches that once held the patchwork Kanohi together could keep the mask cohesive now.“It’s over. You know that, right? It’s finally over.”Lesovikk pulled his eyes away from the destroyed Olisi and looked down at his companion, the Ta Matoran Sarda. “Yes, it’s over,” said Lesovikk after a pause. The brooding Toa of Air had spent centuries hunting Karzahni, looking for Matoran friends that had been mangled and hidden by the twisted being. Now one such friend, Sarda, stood at his side, and Karzanhi was dead. Toa Kopaka and Pohatu had returned with his body and with the allegation that Lesovikk had been responsible for his death. In his mind, Lesovikk admitted that some part of him would have relished the act, but in reality he knew he hadn’t become so consumed with vengeance to actually go through with it. The chief charge Kopaka had presented had been Lesovikk’s own sword. Just when it seemed as if life had conspired to wreck Lesovikk’s life even further, a powerful figure named Axonn had appeared, absolving Lessovikk of all guilt using his mask of Truth. The Kanohi verified Lesovikk’s story that he had lost his blade in a scuffle with a large group of Skakdi following a strange golden being. Kopaka and Pohatu had quickly departed after the Skakdi upon learning of their possession of the Toa Marhi, leaving Lesovikk here, with the Mask of his mortal enemy. Days had passed since his acquittal, and still he held the Olisi with him unable to think of the next move. He had tailed Karzahni for so long. After the madman’s first defeat Lesovikk was able to channel his energies into capturing pit prisoners with Sarda and Hydraxon. Now on this strange knew world he was at a loss as to where he fit in.The Toa of air stirred from his thoughts. He heard Sarda shiver against the cold of the deepening evening. Lesovikk’s fears eased. He knew that whatever he faced on this strange new world, his friend would be there at his side. Together to began the walk back to Atero.“It will be OK,” Sarda reassured him as they walked. “Things change, we grow and we evolve.”The Toa and Matoran passed over the ground as the night fell on Spherus Magna.

Chapter 2 Onua was not pleased. Soon after he had arrived in New Atero he had been told by a passing Agori that Turaga Whenua had an urgent message for him. Upon reaching the village elder of earth, Onua had learned that Tahu and the rest of his Toa team had departed for the Aqua Magna coast. They were tailing a large army of Skakdi rumored to have the Toa Mahri in their grip. The message Tahu had left ordered Onua to join up with them as soon as possible and to bring Lewa on the slip chance he had finally arrived in the city after they left. Onua had left immediately, but his heart was heavy. “This is madness!” he though as he sped over the land with his Kakama. “The Toa Mahri have been our friends and allies ever since we awakened, but how could Tahu have regressed back into his old recklessness? We came closer to death than ever before on Voya Nui against six skakdi, and now he expects us to battle through hordes of them without a plan. If Kopaka or Gali haven’t gotten him for this yet than I guess I’ll have to.” As the Toa sped across the landscape he began to follow the unmistakable path of destruction the Skakdi had rent through the land. He shivered at the thought of having to approach this monstrous race, a bizarre mirror of Toa themselves, yet another time. He had prepared to gradually slow as he reached the shore but he stopped more abruptly than anticipated, now transfixed by the horrors of what he saw. The scene ahead overflowed with chaos. There were hundreds of Skadi writhing in pain amongst the ruins of a vast fortress built upon a cliff overlooking the sea. Beyond them was a large and gruesome golden being, as scarred as the ground around it, indicating some recent fight. “Onua! Here Now!” The Toa of Earth’s eyes were ripped away from the nightmare by the sound of Gali’s fearful voice. Scanning quickly he spotted her and the rest of the team crouched behind the large boulder. They were still several hundred feet from the fortress. Onua ran forward towards them. His dark coloration and the Skakdi’s own agony prevented any of the monsters from noticing him. All ill thoughts toward Tahu left him as he reached his fellow Toa. Tahu hadn’t intended to run into this disaster and Onua could tangibly sense the Toa of fire grasping for some sort of plan. Next to him, Kopaka wore a grimmer expression than usual. “So what are we in for today team” Onua jested unsuccessfully. Humor had always been more of Pohatu’s or Lewa’s element. Not for the first time that day Onua’s heart sank into the earth at the thought of his missing brother.“The golden one has been involved in some sort of struggle”, Kopaka stated without turning his sight away from the behemoth. “Whatever the specifics of that confrontation, he and his opponent apparently had enough power to reduce that stronghold to rubble and drive the Skakdi into madness.”“Yeah, like they’ve ever not been insane,” Onua thought to himself. “Uh, Guys we have bigger problems” Pohatu said, his normally jovial voice now filled with a trepidation that chilled the other four Toa. “Look at the center of the ruins, not at Goldie!” The others followed Pohatu’s command, and immediately wished they hadn’t. In the center of the fortress, amongst the thickest cluster of Skakdi, the Toa Mahri stood. They appeared to be coming out of some long trance, and they stumbled in place, dazed and confused. But it was infinitely worse than that. The Skakdi appeared to going through a similar process. Whatever power had caused them so much pain and instability was wearing off, and when it did completely they would become aware of the fresh prey of Toa in there midst. Almost all hope and ideas drained from Tahu. Almost, but not all. He would need his team to risk their lives, but they had never failed him in that respect before. “Pohatu! Grab our friends now! Kopaka! Sheild them! Everyone else is on offense!” Pohatu had been waiting on the tips of his reinforced feet for the command and before it was even completed he shot forward with every mite of power his Kakama would give him. He pulled the Marhi around him, willing his mask’s power into their bodies. The sudden rush past them had accelerated the rate at which the Skakdi were becoming aware of their surroundings. With instinctual aggression they leaped toward the newly discovered Toa. But only a few bio behind them Kopaka willed the power of his Hau Nuva to Pohatu and the Marhi. Now realizing the danger, the amphibious Toa used the force shields with Nuva ally. Then drawing upon Pohatu’s power, the six heroes sped off. They moved to fast to be properly seen by the Skakdi, but the enraged mutants knew that their prey was fleeing. Immediately they charged en masse towards their enemies. The sight of their assembled stampede was like being blasted at point blank by a Turahk. Even as Pohatu and the Mahri returned to his side, Tahu knew there was no chance for ten Toa against hundreds of Skakdi. Not just Skakdi even, for the commotion had roused the golden monster, and now he turned and followed his legions, his pace slow and his expression unreadable. Instinctively, Tahu saw their only way out that would not bring the wrath of these monsters back to civilization. “The cliff! Bring it down now! The Toa Mahri were still too shocked by their narrow escape to properly process Tahu’s order. But from the ranks of the Toa Nuva, Gali, Pohatu and Onua reached out with their incredible power as one. Onua and Pohatu brought down the cliff that the Skakdi were still attempting to evacuate from while Gali pulled up the sea to meet it. In the last second before all the monsters were enveloped by water, the golden creature turned his gaze right upon the Toa. Then it was over. The cliff was gone, down in depths of the sea. The Toa cautiously peered over the ledge. From hundreds of bio below, the skakdi were surfacing, but their near constant state of rage had been replaced by dumb shock. Just like Nektann before them, they had learned that Toa were not the self-righteous pushovers they originally believed. The golden creature was nowhere to be seen.“It’s not gone for good, that thing. It will be back,” Kopaka said. It was not a question. “Yes” Tahu replied. He did not relish the thought of that day. “Yes, but the Sakdi are rinse-washed and it will be an ever-long time until they are back on ground-land”, Kongu replied cheerfully. The other Toa chuckled at his remark. The Toa Mahri reveled in their freedom, feeling as if they had emerged from a nightmarish tunnel and were seing reality for the first time. And while the Toa Nuva knew they had only gained one temporary victory in their long list of work it was indeed good that there was one less obstacle to their mission to rebuild in this strange new world. “Uh…by the way, where are we?” asked Hewkii nervously. Tahu smiled. “Home, brother. We are home.”Review topic here http://www.bzpower.c...?showtopic=4586

Sorry for the delay, I'll try to have a more consistant release schedule for new chaptersChapter 3“Sometimes those with the greatest power have the simplest minds.” Roodaka had been pondering her hypothesis for some time now. For millennia Matoran and other races of the universe she had recently inhabited had worshiped the spirit of Mata Nui. But now Mata Nui had proven to be just as big of a fool as his diminutive followers. Before he left the Matoran to fend for themselves he had cured the mutations afflicting many of the pit prisoners with the intention that they be moved out of the robot. The Order of Mata Nui saw the need for the highest level of security in this transfer, but not even they could hope to move there largest hive of criminal undesirables without a few slipping from their notice. And that is why Roodaka now stood on this strange new world walking in a ruined valley far north from those insignificant Matoran “What a fool!” Roodaka thought, so absorbed in rage that she spat upon the ground. “That spirit could have left us to die in that machine, but in his naivety and desire to impress his spineless followers he let us out. I suppose he thought we deserved a second chance. I will personally make him regret that choice even if it takes the rest of my life and the death of every pathetic Matoran!” She seethed and raged a thousand more dark and indescribable thoughts. But down in the black depths of her soul Roodaka knew blind rage would accomplish nothing. She needed a plan. But it had been so work constructing this new plan when her mind was still so distraught and distracted with the death of Makuta. It was the blighting of his shadow that incited all the anger she seethed in now. But she had a plan now, and was weaving a web of manipulation and schemes not unlike the webs of Visorak she had once used. “I’ll soon have something better than useless rahi though” she thought darkly. She let out a high, horrid laugh like scraping metal, which was immediately answered (as she expected) by an echoed, bloodthirsty scream. From the foothills above and to the right lunged a blur, leaping out at great speed. It would easily be able to overpower a lone confused wanderer. That thought barley left the being’s mind before it was caught in midair by the strong arm of the Vortixx and was hurled in one fluid motion into the cliff face. Roodaka stared down at the black armored being in her grip. It was hideous to the sight and touch, a creature composed more of organic tissue than anything in her universe. A strong desire griped her mind to see just what her mutation Rhotuka could do to such an alien life form. But her Rhotuka launcher was gone and she had more… productive uses for this creature. During her escape from civilization under the darkness of many nights she had heard the whispers of the Toa like creatures. She had heard the tales of the black warriors, the Skrall, of how close they had come to complete dominance over their pathetic collection of villages. Roodaka saw the potential in these warriors, in an army more powerful than before under her guidance. The Skrall, knocked out from the force of Roodaka’s blow, began to stir feebly. It struggled mildly, but it was smart enough to know it could not escape from so cunning a hunter. But more than that, the Skrall mustered hardly any effort because it had lost hope. Battera had scourged his people, his great leader Tuma had fallen to an interloper, and he and his people had been forced to follow an Agori into a humiliating total defeat. Even a final desperate ambush as the Glatorian were distracted by monsters from the metal behemoth had failed. With so many new creatures now aligning with the Glatorian, it was apparent even to the nameless soldier that the age of the Skrall was over.Roodaka saw all the despair in the Skrall and knew that her instincts had been as polished as they always were. It would be laughably easy to bend the broken spirits of these savages to her will. “Well,” whispered Roodaka to the Skrall in voice filled with menace, “Let’s go find your friends” -------- Takanuva fidgeted, wondering what would happen now. He had no idea what the purpose of this meeting was, only that the Turaga Vakama had asked him to come. Now he sat observing the others called to this meeting with great interest. His memory was not very extensive with all the tampering it had endured, but still he could not remember ever seeing such a diverse group. The five members of the Toa Nuva minus Lewa and the seven Turaga of Metru Nui he knew well, but most of the others he recognized only by species. There were four Agori, the red one Takanuva knew was called Raanu. Close by them was the Glatorian Ackar. Also present was Lariska, a representative of the Dark hunters who had decided to join the rest of society after the disappearance of the Shadowed One. Axonn was also here to speak for the Order of Mata Nui. Most of Takanuva’s attention though was focused on the two other beings at this meeting. They resembled Vakama’s physical descriptions of the Sidorak and Roodaka, the former rulers of the Visorak. However, the representative from Stelt was blue rather than red, and lacked the herding blade and Rhotuka Sidorak had once possessed, and the Vortixx displayed none of the malevolence Takanuva heard had radiated from Roodaka. Rather than being intimidated by the records of their two most infamous members, Takanuva was actually quite excited for the chance to see a Steltian and a Vortixx. Though now a Toa, Takua had not lost his love for adventure and new experiences.“Now that all are accounted for, this meeting between the various people’s of Sphereus Magna will begin!” Turaga Dume stated with authority. Side conversations between the various groups ceased, though Takanuva noted the reluctance among the Agori.“Yes, well the thing is that none of us as far as I’m aware know why we attended this meeting. We were told cryptically that we would be told information vital for all species on the planet. With such a vague invitation you should consider yourselves fortunate that we actually came,” said Raanu snidely. His frustration and that of his fellow Agori leaders at being upstaged by Dume was apparent in his voice. “It was not Dume who called you all here. I did.” Turaga Vakama strode to center of the sand pit the group was seated around.Raanu was taken aback by the fire Turaga’s boldness, but he quickly recovered.“My question stands the same. Why the ambiguity of your summons.” Vakama sighed, a long drawn out and tired sound that filled the Toa Nuva with unease. At last he spoke, and his voice strained even to say a few words. “I have called this meeting to discuss the Mask of Time” The Toa tensed at these words, but none of the six was more upset than Tahu. He had firsthand experience with the kanohi Vahi and like Vakama, the fear from its loss had constantly haunted the back of his mind for many weeks. The reaction for the Agori was one of confusion. Axonn’s expression was unreadable. Tahu’s frustration could not be cooled any longer. “Voporak stole the mask, we all know that. The dark hunters and the Shadowed One want the power of the mask just as they always have! Why are we dealing with these thieves?” The Toa of fire turned to Lariska, but the Dark Hunter displayed no fear in the face of such fiery rage “Don’t be quick to forget Toa,” Lariska hissed with as much contempt as possible, “that we were allies in the war against Makuta. We can still remain allies if you watch your words. The alternative would be to have me as your enemy, a situation most sane beings would avoid. The Shadowed One is gone; he disappeared some time ago during some violent event on Xia. He is most likely dead, and even if he was not, most of his hunters now allied with the Matoran would not return to his shackles after experiencing freedom. I have no idea as to Voporak’s location. He most likely fled into the wilderness with the other hunters that were unwilling to cooperate with you arrogant Toa.”There was an uneasy silence as Toa and Hunter stared each other down. It was broken by Raanu, who’s earlier anger had evaporated in the midst of this confusing new web of details.“Uh what exactly is this Mask of Time and why all the concern. You mechanical bunch seem to have a lot of these, what you call them, yes Kanohi,” he said uncertainly“Yeah and you can always use some of our old helmets,” the jungle Agori added. The Toa and Turaga looked expectantly at one another, waiting to see which of them would step up try to explain Kanohi to the Agori. Strangely, Ackar spoke up before any of them could respond.“You saw what Kanohi could do Raanu,” the wise fire warrior began, “That glowing thing Mata Nui did with his face. That was an unbelievable amount of power and he did all those things we would have thought impossible. And that was with the Mask of Life. Sure we’ve seen the Toa with their masks of speed and strength, but the Mask of Life wasn’t a commonplace power like those were. And I’m willing to bet that this Mask of Time is probably just as powerful.” “Yes they have power, but none of them are still being very clear,” Raanu insisted. “Why is the protection of this mask so vitally important that they call upon every race on the planet, even we who don’t use masks?”“Because time itself shatters if the mask dose”, Axonn stated gravely.A cold silence fell on the circle. Even the Toa and Turaga who knew this dreadful fact were daunted by the possibility. Raanu appeared to wilt somewhat.“That was always a possibility inside Mata Nui,” Axonn added, “but whether the same will happen here is not a risk that anyone should take lightly. I came hear to inform all of you that The Order is already immensely involved with this situation. We have agents scouring these wide new lands, searching for Voporak and the Mask. Any and all cooperation you can give will be greatly appreciated.”Axonn’s words were measured and calm, but they did little to ease the fears that now engulfed every heart present. “We will help as well Axonn,” Tahu said, mustering a courageous determination that began to calm the others like a soothing fire in a cold black night.“All that can be done now has been completed,” Vakama said gravely. “After experiencing the shadows that breed from secrets, I only thought you all should know the truth rather than scrape in the darkness. Return to your people. The coming day may yield a brighter light for all of us.”With that Vakama turned and left. The assembled group began to break up and go their own ways. Most of the Turaga left together, but Takanuva noticed Whenua separate and approach Raanu of all people. The two began an involved discussion that the Toa of light could not have guessed at even if he was in the mood to. Rather, Toa Takua’s mind was filled with the desire to do his part and retrieve the Kanohi Vahi from destruction. As he turned to begin the journey home, he heard Onewa’s voice, carried on the night wind as if he stood right beside him.“Aw fire-spitter, if only I could have stopped you from making that mask. The blasted thing has done more bad than good for us.” ----------link to review topic http://www.bzpower.com/board/index.php?showtopic=4586
