Studs Not On Top
Yeah, I feel a little overshadowed by all these BBC entries, but here's my Moc anyway! http://www.brickshel...ia/dsc00187.jpg -Fronthttp://www.brickshel...ia/dsc00188.jpg -Sidehttp://www.brickshel...ia/dsc00189.jpg -Backhttp://www.brickshel...ia/dsc00191.jpg -Head Detailhttp://www.brickshel...ia/dsc00198.jpg -Posehttp://www.brickshel...ia/dsc00199.jpg -Another PoseHalia is a Toa of Water who was recently created to oversee and protect a small inhabited island. One matoran framed her for the death of a beloved villager and as the news spread, she knew she couldn't remain in the open. With a new mask and new armor, Hahlia contacts the Order of Mata Nui and joins an elite team of Toa, led by Zedra of Air. She promises to find out who framed her and uncover the reason for the matoran's death, but right now she is glad to safely continue her destiny.Halia is the most difficult MOC I have ever created. Without any real experience with custom torsos, I put my first female body together. I really like how she turned out, despite the lack of a more suitable mask. What do you think? Comments and Criticism appreciated!Edit: Image thumbnailed due to file size. FrozenFlash
The female body looks great and your choices of pieces for it are also great. The axes are nicely designed. My only complaint is that the back of the head is too clumped up together but other than that, great job! Studs Not On Top
Thanks, it took two hours to work out, so I'm glad it worked. As soon as I read that I thought of an alternative; I'll work on that now. Thank you!
Nuparu1995
Like the weapons! And you don't really see MoCs with a Volitak that fits that well. It was either the Volitak or Hydraon's face. I'd like to make a sculpy mask for her soon.I redesigned the hair into a braid, and gave her new weapons:http://www.brickshel...ia/dsc00200.jpg -Fronthttp://www.brickshel...ia/dsc00201.jpg -Detail (hair got really crazy here)http://www.brickshel...ia/dsc00202.jpg -Pose
Kosdan
I was going to make some suggestions on the first version, but then I saw your second version, and you fixed some of them, like making the feet silver and adding more tubes to make the hair better. I have a few other comments though:I think you should remove the bushings in the shoulders, and move the arms closer to the body. Females usually have slimmer shoulders then males, and I think if you move them in it would help distinguish. On her groin, I would switch the piece you have for a Throwbot/Slizer foot, which has some slopes and would have a better shape in my opinion.Like I said, I like that you added more hair, but maybe you could organize it a little bit and have it all go down her back. For her weapons, I would replace those angled axle connectors for T connectors. Finally, for colors, I expected more blue for a Toa of Water, and I don't think her new red blades match that profile very well either. Jacks
Honestly, I don't think this looks all that genuinely feminine. To me, it looks more like you took a sleek but masculine body and added high heels and a watermelon. Still, I fully understand that custom torsos are tricky, and feminine ones doubly so. To start with, I would definitely recommend that you take Kosdan's suggestion of narrower shoulders; either that or wider hips. Also, I've found that a single Nuva breastplate is very much preferable to two shoulderplates for female torsos -- sleek and vaguely curvy, rather than the aforementioned watermelon. And high heels are just not a good look for a warrior. As for the colour scheme, I can't tell if the secondary colour is black or Metru blue. The hair is also kind of ingenious. Well done there. Studs Not On Top
Thanks both of you-- replies like these definitely help me shape my MOCing abilities. The shoulders are how they are for posability purposes-- That shoulder armor would rub up against the shoulder itself at normal spacing. The secondary color is black; I went with these colors because Halia isn't meant to look like a water Toa, as she's going into hiding. I'll work on the shapes now, but my small collection of spare parts is getting smaller. Thanks again! You're right, the shoulders look much better now:http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Cusall/MOCs/Bionicle/OrderOfMataNui/Halia/dsc00208.jpg Edited June 21, 2012 by Nuju's Translator
