  1. IC: Skrall [Roxtus, Stables] Skrall didn't win battles by not fighting them, and he didn't lose campaigns by the result of a single skirmish. He resigned himself to another day, with his last act of defiance being spitting on the ground as he was lifted to his knees. Straining against the shackles, Skrall lifted himself into the cart. It was a nontrivial task, given he had been deprived of his full free range of motion. The sooner they got underway, the sooner opportunities would present themselves, and he could begin the next phase.

  2. IC: T’harrak – Fleeing Fort Garsi "We gotta go back. She's still got breath in 'er'." T’harrak stumbled as if she’d been shoved, the insane suggestion striking her with all the force of a physical blow. She glanced back behind her, spotting the figure Sohmak was referring to. Jojax, stooped on the edge of the battlefield, battered but still alive. But she also saw one of Fort Garsi’s riders parked by a mound beyond the spikes. She was hurling words their way, and the grenade in her hand made it all too clear what she’d be throwing next if they doubled back. She was alone for now, but there were still snipers out there somewhere, and other Fort Garsi survivors were making their way through the spikes. There were probably even more warriors still waiting inside the Fort, fresh and ready to fight. The Fort Razorfish group had already lost or left behind so many today. Zanakra, Seeker, Ahuum, others whose names T'harrak had never known. And they would lose a lot more if they threw away their one clear chance for escape to go back for just one person. “I’m sorry,” T’harrak said, tears of shame shining in her eyes, “Her life isn’t worth all of ours.” And then she kept running. @Techn0geist @ARROW404 @Smudge8 @Mel

  3. For those in the Fort Garsi battle, I talked with Smudge and agreed to hold off posting as Ipsudir and NPCs until people reply to give Jojax a fair chance. We're still waiting on @Snelly @Nato G and @ARROW404, I think. No pressure, just thought I'd clarify the situation.

  4. I think I'd want to do something new with it. As much as I loved Bionicle back in the day, I wouldn't want to just revisit the same story all over again; especially not with the way it felt a bit like it was drowning in its own minutia in the final few years. I admit I haven't really thought about it before, so this is just me throwing around random ideas off the top of my head, and isn't going to be the most well-thought-out thing ever, but... I'd definitely want to keep some of the classic story, I grant. But really, I think what I'd want to recapture would be the FEELING of Bionicle, rather than the details of Bionicle. I think I'd return, at least initially, to that 'mysterious robots on a tropical island' vibe that drew so many people into early Bionicle, and definitely make sure that right from the start it was a world with lots of hidden backstory and secrets to uncover. I don't know that something exactly like the MNOG would fly very far these days, but I definitely think that an immersive video game would be the best way to draw people into the world as the primary story medium for that first year - because of the way it lets players really feel like they're experiencing that discovery for themselves - especially now that story-heavy games feel more common than they used to be. Maybe with comics on the side that are supplemental to the game, but also tell their own story in the world so that they can be appreciated even by someone who never plays the game. The multimedia aspect of Bionicle was one of the things I loved about it, and I wouldn't want to lose that completely - but I feel like such an approach works best when each form of story media can stand on its own, something that wasn't often the case in Bionicle's original run. I'd definitely want to start out with new main characters. Whether NEW-new, or a collection of minor characters from the first run that never got their time in the spotlight, I dunno; but I'd build the story, especially in that first game and comics, around them as they uncover bits and pieces of the lost story of their world... and then, at the very climax of the first year's story in both mediums, I'd have a very familiar face from classic Bionicle turn up, but in an unexpected way. Maybe one of the original Toa, but as a much older, battle-weary figure, who is able to shed light on the story details that have been discovered so far... in such a way that it's a nice little bonus for classic fans, but doesn't alienate newcomers. We would never explicitly go into their past, so that it would retain the possibility of being a far-distant-future continuation of G1, but would never confirm nor deny otherwise (it would be solely up to fans if they wanted to headcanon that as the case or not) and wouldn't need to bind itself to the old canon. Beyond there, I don't know. I think if I had my way, I'd then like to return to comics being the main story medium going forward after that game... this is nostalgia talking, in a way, but there's also a degree of feeling like the original run's books didn't necessarily age as gracefully; whereas the comics, especially the ones with that classic Carlos D'Anda art, still excite me to this day. I definitely have trouble warming to the idea of a TV show for Bionicle; as someone who often avoided watching TV as a kid, I would have found the concept alienating when I was younger and wouldn't want to exclude any current kids who feel that same way. I could certainly go for the occasional movie release; but I can't state enough that any story told via a movie would need to be self-contained enough not to demand prior knowledge of the franchise from its viewers - and, likewise, the comics shouldn't just leave a gap that skips over the movie stuff but, even if they can't show movie plot directly for spoilers, work around it so that the printed story still stands on its own too. I'd want it to carry a feeling of maturing with the audience over the years as the story progresses, as well... possibly in the subsequent different settings it moves to, as the original run did. Maybe after a few years of focusing on the same protagonists, they could split up to each lead a team of their own that go their separate ways; that way we get, say, six years where we get to journey with a different team each year, but each one of those teams is led by a character who we've already had chance to get attached to, even if the rest of their teammates are new. I think, after all, that part of why Bionicle was able to hold attention for so long was because, while it wasn't afraid to switch out its main heroes, every time it transitioned to a different team, they were still characters who we'd known since the beginning and so already had that attachment to... this would preserve an aspect of that, while at the same time getting to have new team dynamics so that first protagonist team doesn't get stale. That way, too, when the teams reconvene in the final year, it's exciting to have the original protagonists back together for the climax since we won't have seen them together for several years. I don't know where exactly I'd take the story from there. I think I'd like it if the ultimate big-bad was also eventually revealed as having their roots in classic Bionicle, albeit - again - not spelled out explicitly as such. But I don't know exactly who or how. And I'd definitely want it to end with a big twist that had been planned from the beginning, much like the true nature of Mata Nui as the universe in the past story was - but something new, that has that same level of amazement when it's revealed, rather than reiterating what had been done before. This is... a lot of rambling, so I hope some of it makes sense, at least!

  5. IC: Jeizmel, Streets of Atero Okay, she could have phrased that better, Jeizmel would admit. She had, at least in her own mind, meant to imply that she could take any role that Glatorian Vraek needed her to, rather than just being dead weight to be dragged around; but in hindsight it did sound like she was offering to fulfil a role that was more stupidly formal than a professional warrior would have need of. Still, she simply shrugged a little, not offended by the other's amusement - the only thing that would have offended her was if the Glatorian had treated her like a child; something that, she was grateful to note, wasn't the case. "Oh, that sounds fine. Yes, I won't make it a big deal." She would have said more - if not for the unexpected interruption. Jeizmel tilted her head a little at the other Ice Tribeswoman's approach, pondering for a moment if she recognised this newcomer... she didn't think so, but it was hard to tell behind the mask. And what a mask! The artistry that must have gone into crafting that crystalline design; it wasn't a skill that Jeizmel thought of herself as having, but ever since her childhood ice cavern experience, she had developed an appreciation for the beautiful clarity of ice crystal, and crystal in general. Surely, then, this was someone else who valued the purity of ice, just as she did? The newcomer was addressing Vraek, however, rather than herself; so for the moment Jeizmel opted to keep politely silent. --At least, until such a moment may occur when she felt like she had something that needed to be said. @Toru Nui, @Daniel the Finlander

  6. IC: Karak - Ready to roll Skyra went to her steed - and I to mine. I make fast strides. Skyra's use as convoy is necessary - yet I am still weary of the mystery man. The Agori language…like a labyrinth. Otherwise, he might be clearer still. It's no matter. Tajun waits. Little time has passed as I seat myself on Huracan's saddle. There's a guilty fondness I have of the machine. One of the few joys of the desert. The beast awakens. I guide it onward - it comes to a stop outside the Inn. My mask is donned. I signal Skyra with a nod. OOC: @Techn0geist @Snelly

  8. IC: Skyra Daring - Streets of Atero - Skyra inspected her vehicle as Del said his goodbyes to the guards. They seemed to be having a moment so Skyra took her time, checking the fuel, engine, tires, and all that stuff as the engine purred. Everything seemed to be good to go so Skyra hoped into the driver's seat, putting a pair of shades on as she felt how cool she looked in her car. Yeah. @Techn0geist @Morgan Yu

  11. a slave | bone hunter stronghold you drew the short straw this time—the others do not envy you, because you all know that the not-hunter called Talrix hates skrall. you are not skrall, but you do not think she will understand this. so very little do. It is a long way to the cell block that you are supposed to go to, through twisting passages full of not-hunters that make note of you as you pass. you try not to memorize the way it goes. you do not open the door. any slave that wants to keep all their limbs knows which thresholds not to cross. but you knock softly, steadily increasing the volume. it is better than surprising her. the tray of victuals should be carefully balanced, no wine spilled, no grit allowed to penetrate the covering. you are good at this, at least. for those the night once called friend the sense of balance is key. you wait, bracing for a blow that might come. it is better to be prepared. 12. IC: Lorqua - Red Star Inn As Lutenus turned his back to her and walked towards the door, Lorqua stood for a moment, and shook her head. She sighed, and then she jogged forward to catch up. "Yeah. Not that, uh, I think I'll make much difference for Tesara. I'm a decent fighter in the desert, decent enough to make a living at least, but it's a different beast to fight in the Arena. It's been a while. Suppose that means I've strayed, as far as you're concerned. I get it, a lot of people see it that way." She rubbed the back of her neck, just as the two of them reached the threshold of the Inn. "But I will do it. I've got two reasons to be in Tajun now. Seeing as it might be the second best place after Ferrum, to figure out something about what's going on in Ferrum." Lutenus wanted to know that too. Lorqua could tell. OOC: @Toru Nui IC: Skrall - Outside Roxtus Stables Skrall nodded along with both sides of the dispute. Both sides agreed on the one thing that Skrall was interested in, which was getting out of Roxtus. Sooner, rather than later. At the older one's words, he resumed loading the carriages with supplies. "Being on our way works for me." He looked about himself, to any of his fellows who were listening. "Not that my opinion matters. Nor should it." He spoke without malice. He was happy enough to be in motion, for now. OOC: @a goose @BULiK @Burnmad @Nato G @Toru Nui @Vezok's Friend IC: Escus - Arena Vulcanus Escus gave a slight nod to the next to arrive, a hooded and quiet Glatorian of Vulcanus. He turned back towards the voice, set his jaw, and raised his brows as the Ferrumite spoke. "That's the impression I'm getting, from what little I've heard. My sympathies." He spun his axe around and placed it on the ground, then lowered himself to sit cross-legged on the floor of the arena. He breathed in deeply, and then regretted it. All he could smell was sulfurous vapours, and the heat made the inside of his nose itch. The corners of his mouth turned up in a hint of a grimace. "All the same, who ever likes to go home anyway?"
