  1. I love the little spike at the end, most likely brought on from the events and aftermath of r/me_irl's Bizarre October
  2. It's hard to mess up Bionicle more than Lego themselves did with G2. Taking Disney as an example, I'm quite happy with what they've done with Marvel and Star Wars. In Marvel's case, they've made some good, mediocre and bad movies. The bad movies are usually not insultingly bad, the mediocre are usually just bland and the good usually take superhero movies places they could never have hoped to achieve before (save for the Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy, and even then the last one can't compare to the first two). For Star Wars, I think The Force Awakens is a genuinely good movie bogged down by the fact that it borrows too much plotwise from A New Hope. This is what keeps me from saying that it's a great movie since it's directed very well and the characters are very well realized. They're not KOTOR 2 levels of deep but they're just about if not as good as the OT characters. I've heard people say they respect the prequels more than the sequels because they at least did something different. I can respect that position but I wholeheartedly disagree. The similarities between TFA and ANH are indisputable but there's enough to differentiate them as movies for me that I can accept it. Not to mention that I can't base the entire sequel trilogy off of TFA, if The Last Jedi and Star Wars XI are bad then I'll lump the sequel trilogy under lost potential. I can't really see how they could be worse than the prequels (particularly Attack of the Clones; I can actually cut a tiny bit of slack for Phantom Menace because even though I dislike it, I can see some things that I could like in it had it not been a Star Wars movie, Revenge of the Sith isn't as bad as Attack of the Clones and I know a lot of people find this one ok. I find it just as insufferable as the rest but it's not as bad as AotC.) As for Rogue One, it has a spectacular ending but a really lackluster beginning and middle. Ultimately, I'd say the problems lie with the directing (mostly the character directing, the shot composition itself is alright) and the pacing of the first 2/3 of the movie. The leads are rather uninteresting, which is a big problem. I think overall Rogue One is an alright movie leaning on good. Starts off alright but never really takes off, meanders in the middle but ultimately sticks the landing. I don't think it's insultingly bad, just mediocre barely scraping a pass by. To me, one of the most interesting things about Bionicle is the fact that it had a very elaborate story that didn't actually have much to do with the toys and in spite of not having the worldwide recognition that something with such extensive lore usually has (like Star Wars). That combined with action figure-building toys (a mashup of my two favorite type of toys done in a very satisfactory way) meant Bionicle appealed to me in the ways most important to me. Now that I'm older, I still enjoy the toys (even if some were not designed well) and still enjoy reading the lore, even if a lot of it is not written well. That said, I don't know if I'd enjoy that if I wasn't so invested in it as a kid. I can't imagine anyone but Lego doing as good a job on the toys, though I can imagine someone else doing a better job on the story. Unless Lego was involved with the toys, I can't really see it having the appeal it did for me unless the story was truly spectacular. In my opinion, Bionicle would be best suited for a sci-fi novel series that starts off as fairly basic sci-fi fare with its unique setting/premise as a hook and with hints at underlying secrets being the incentive to keep reading. As the series keeps progressing, it'd start to subvert the tropes it set in place while slowly working up to the giant robot reveal. I'd have this reveal not really lead to anything more to contrast the relatively high-stakes sci-fi action with the reveal that all the inhabitants are merely pieces in a machine far greater than them of which the purpose is mere curiosity. It could lead to some interesting musings on the characters' behalf and I'd use it as a commentary on the structure of your basic pulp sci-fi, kinda like how Rick and Morty uses high sci-fi concepts as mere throwaways for gags or as pieces of more creative ideas.
  3. Bionicle is a trash tier waifu like Sagiri and Elf. That's right, Eromanga fans, I went there. Do I want to understand that reference? You don't.
  4. Interesting to see that the village portion of Ko-Wahi has collision data. I imagine there was some non-timed segment of Kopaka's level where you could walk around that was cut. Very interested in hearing the cut music! I absolutely adore the OST for this game and getting more would be a huge treat.

  6. Pretty much everything involving the villains in Bionicle Heroes, but in the best way possible.
  7. They don't, they only have so many different pieces.
  8. The Tren Krom Times Bestseller, second only to Two Shades of Bley.
  9. Don't lewd the dragons

  10. The brain expanding meme is just begging to get one done with Bricklink and Lego's weird naming conventions for colors. I've been kinda busy and don't really have any good ideas for what color to use so I decided to throw it on out there in case someone gets a good idea for it.
  11. I think Bionicle now and Star Wars before the buyout are a comparable yet radically different situation. Disney would've had to try really hard to make something worse than Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones or the Clone Wars movie (cutting Revenge of the Sith some slack it probably doesn't deserve). Regardless of your opinion of The Force Awakens or Rebels, Disney has handled Star Wars (and Marvel) rather well, with the biggest problem being oversaturation in terms of media (one movie a year for Star Wars and so many comic book movies are gonna lead to a big crash some point down the line) and not the actual quality of the content. If Disney were to take Bionicle, they'd have to try really hard to do a worse job at marketing or storytelling than G2. That's where the similarities stop, though. Despite how reviled the prequels are, Star Wars is still a gigantic media juggernaut. Bionicle is not. Disney found the right time to snap up Star Wars: when there was no planned mainline content but the money was still good. Bionicle doesn't really have anything, save for Me_IRL's Bizarre October if you're really grasping (and really, some memelords aren't gonna save you from financial ruin; then again I also doubted the power of memes in politics and now the Annoying Orange is in office so what do I know). While I think Disney could do a good job with it (or totally butcher it), it's incredibly unlikely that it'd get bought.
  12. I have the same questions. Anyone have answers please?
  13. They should cover Bye Bye Babylon as a happy-go-lucky pop song as well.
  14. While playing through Fate/stay night Réalta Nua it hit me that Shirou Emiya is pretty much a masterbuilder so now I want Lego Fate sets.
  15. A friend sent me this: (scroll down to where it shows someone's text) http://ultrabiblence.tumblr.com/post/154190376237
  16. I wish Lego would make JoJo's Bizarre Adventure sets. C'mon Lego I need me a CCBS STANDO
  17. Drat, I missed this while it was happening. Just found out a little bit earlier on KYM. BZP's front page news should cover dank meme cataclysms.
  18. Amazing! Jaller's characterization is easily my favorite part. I liked the Gali telling bad jokes nod to G2 as well. The story with the bugs was really cool, too. Great work!
  19. If Mata Nui (island) is the GSR's face, Metru Nui its brain and Karda Nui its heart, what do Voya Nui and Mahri Nui represent?
  20. Being bonkle is suffering. offmodelkopakathatlookslikedarthvaderfromgatheringofthetoa.jpg
  21. The site will go down for maintenance for half a year and then will be relaunched with design cues from modern blogs.
  22. Not sure how you get that sense considering the abundance of G2 concept art we've been shown through the NYCC presentation, BrickFair New Jersey presentation, the Facebook page, designer videos, etc. Loads of effort was very clearly put into developing the design and feel of the G2 characters and world. Suggesting otherwise when we've seen so much of that concept and development art, and there's so much more we HAVEN'T seen, is an exercise in self-delusion. Obviously I don't meant that to diminish the importance of the concept art here, particularly since the G2 creators had ten years of precedent to base their concepts on and the G1 creators had to create their concepts from the ground up. And truthfully, a lot of G2 concept and development art began with research into Bionicle's roots and how to reinvent those iconic concepts for a new generation. And of course, it's worth remembering that while Faber did not play a leading role in developing Bionicle G2, he DID play a leading role in developing Hero Factory. And in his own words, "Having worked on both Bionicle and HF from the very beginning I can tell you that the work that went into creating the HF universe was much more deep than the early foundation of Bionicle." Just because Bionicle fans often fail to appreciate the LEGO Group's more recent themes doesn't mean any less work or effort went into developing them. While I agree there was a lot of effort but into designing it (though I still consider the execution flawed at best), I think the key thing is the idea of the giant robot was present from the start in G1 as the story's big reveal and unique thing. There was no indication that there was much to G2 beyond what was shown. We learned about the giant robot eight years into the theme's lifespan, and didn't really learn quite how central it had been to the theme's development until years after the theme's end. Heck, Faber only just shared that info about the depth of Hero Factory's early development this past month, two years after that theme ended. What makes you think we'd already know about all the bigger overarching plans for G2 when its second and final year is barely even over? We didn't know about the reveal, but the foreshadowing was clearly there. Mata Nui literally means Great Face. With G2 the only thing that was foreshadowed was the Mask of Time, which ended up having an immediate payout. With Okoto everything we saw we learned about immediately. The Skull villains being pirates is the closest thing to interesting lore that I can point out wasn't quite what it seemed and even then that excludes the Scorpios and Slicer and isn't that great an example. On side note, I had downloaded the original video on the day it was posted. I posted a link on the new video. I can also PM the link should the comment be removed.
