  1. there's a fair number of us who use Casual Typing here on bzp. there does seem to be some sort of unspoken rule against it though doesnt there? at least a general attitude that "proper" grammar makes you Mature and Serious (i still punctuate more on bzpower than i do elsewhere), which makes sense on a site that's ostensibly for kids. personally, though, i find that "proper" grammar often comes off as intimidating.

    i completely agree

despite there being a number of us we do appear to be a minority, which seems odd because it's a big thing on other sites, and i know what you mean about proper grammar seeming intimidating

and yeah i think that there's a connection between this being a 'kids' site which doesn't seem entirely comfortable with that reputation (and hey i think it's an awesome thing that we're able to talk about serious stuff here rather than letting what we used to be hold us back, it's awesome guys) and the presentation of typing on it, and i won't judge other people for typing properly because y'know it's all choice

tbh i used to be a grammar nut but i've calmed down a lot since then and i like the fact that the way i type reflects that, although my punctuation here is probably about the equivalent to what it is elsewhere (although i cut down on my use of abbreviations and swearing, the latter for obvious reasons)

  2. I don't personally think there's any problem with doing that myself. A lack of capitalization and punctuation affects the way people read your posts, but not in a bad way. It makes the sentences sound more laid-back and conversational — exactly the opposite of how ALL CAPS MAKES YOU SOUND ANGRY AND SERIOUS TO THE POINT OF RIDICULOUSNESS.

In a more formal or professional context like a news article it would seem out-of-place, but nothing wrong with adopting a "voice" of your choosing in a post or blog entry.

Usually, I only use all lowercase or avoid punctuation if I'm making a sarcastic or otherwise "playful" post, to emphasize that the post isn't as serious as my usual posts.

    yeah i get that

i'm kinda that last point taken to an extreme, where only the most serious stuff gets proper punctuation and the rest is lowercase by default as a result of not being as serious because i'd like to think of myself as a pretty laid-back person just in general

  3.

Logical conclusion: everything in this series is a running gag.

hi sorry to be a stickler for terminology, but 'running gag' is for jokes only

the breath thing was kinda serious in Deep Breath (although slightly less so in Into The Dalek, so i think it could only be described as a recurring theme, although i guess the enemy description thing kinda counts?? (idk if referring to them simply as running gags was a joke in itself, but yeah, i just dislike mislabelling >.>)

    but yeah, proper responses:

It looks really interesting, I'm sure it'll be a satisfying payoff.

i'm gonna be honest, i have no faith in moffat payoff-wise after the last couple of years of reset buttons and rushed explanations. *shrug*

personally, i'm not particularly intrigued by this character -- so far she hasn't shown herself to be anything more than the moffatian archetype of the mysterious woman primarily characterised by a romantic obsession with the doctor

I wouldn't be surprised if the breathing thing was just a coincidence but it'd be one of the most sly arcs they've ever done if it turns out to be A Thing.

i'm inclined to just think it's coincidence, given that apart from maybe bad wolf the arc words have never been anywhere near this subtle, but it'd be pretty awesome if it were true and they keep up the subtlety

  4. I can /never/ find these books anywhere except for the Faceless Ones(or something like that?)

It frustrates me to no end. I really loved the tone in the one I read and would love to read them all sometime.

The third book was called The Faceless Ones, yeah. And dude -- seek them out on the internet. The writing just improves over time (and then peaks at book seven, but stays great), and it's by far my favourite book series. Buying them online is completely worthwhile and I cannot recommend it enough to you. Just do it.

  5. I watched it in the cinema, and although I still prefer the first I also really liked it. Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man was brilliant (far better than Tobey Maguire's, although i'm still not sure who did a better job of Peter Parker). I agree that the ending was awkward, though, and the various Rogues Gallery references felt a little forced.

Apart from that, though, I thought that it was really good, if not quite great, and certainly not the mess that it has so often been described as.

(also, i can sympathise with you, although my problem questions and spoilers-wise is more my younger brother than my dad. Although my dad still insists on complaining about any TV show that I enjoy, so he's not great there either, although he's fine with movies)

  6. Planet Of The Dead is one of my favourite episodes lol. And IMO season 6 is where the badness started. It had quite a few good episodes still but its plot arc was a mess. Also totally agree with you, indigo.
i'm with you on season 6; the first half was pretty good, but the latter was mediocre at best and it was all downhill from there

The Waters of Mars wasn't all that bad but The End of Time was terrible. The plot was just plain ridiculous and a lot of it just felt ... kind of forced, to be honest. After Journey's End - which was amazing - I never felt as if the specials lived up to their potential.
i respect your opinion but disagree entirely with it (apart from the bit where you described Journey's End as amazing, because it was)apart from the slightly forced and very strange nature of the Master's revival, i loved The End Of Time. Simm's Master was as great as ever, and it tied up and finished off the Tenth Doctor's plot and Russel T. Davies' run perfectly (imo).- Indigo Individual
  7. Every showrunner has a certain number of good seasons, and I think Moffat used up all of his good ideas in series 5 and 6. Everything since then has been a mess (except for the 50th special). RTD had four good seasons, then sucky specials.

I'd like to see Moffat leave before Capaldi does, but my hunch is that they'll exit at the same time.

i don't really care about planet of the dead or that one with the cybermen (because as far as i can recall, they weren't anything exceptional), but are you saying that the end of time and the waters of mars are 'sucky'?

  8. oh look kiss scene hahaha i'm sure all the guys watching are real happy with that one
    the doctor is flirting with a dinosaur, C O M E D Y
two women in a relationship, i'll objectify one to no end and make the other the 'man' so that (s)he can be cruel and flirt with everyone like every other guy on this show apparently does
oh, those silly scottish with their 'independence' and their 'accents'

    moffat is a creative genius

EDIT: as a side-note, though, i would like to point out that RTD made quite a few actual fart jokes, although moffat's are considerably worse

  9. SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

as a general side-note, though, the first will probably be a little disappointing in comparison to the second, so it's usually best to play them in order

it has the better end-credits song (imo), but it's both shorter and less engaging than Portal 2, so yeah

  10. Mega Audino is the most exciting thing I've heard about ORAS thus far. My love for that pink dinosaur thing knows no bounds, and the Mega is beautiful. Since I kind of fell out of the Pokemon wagon a few months back I had been going back and forth on getting ORAS for a while. Mega Lopunny and Altaria pushed that to "probably getting a game." Audino just turned that into "GIVE ME"

But yeah I hope they do Bisharp. And Chandelure. and Lilligant. And Maractus. And Whimsicott. and Haxorus, and Serperior....

excuse me while my head explodes from the image of a mega bisharp

  11.

as i said before, 3DS remake

i would feel so, so happy if all of the awesome things about the region were reapplied to the capabilities of the 3DS

the panoramic images of bridges and cities would work so well (especially in 3D if they let them be in 3D for the people like me who enjoy a little 3D)

(i am entirely in agreement on all of those points, but please don't forget the awesome soundtrack)

Oh man, I forgot about the soundtrack! Yeah, White has probably some of the best music from any of the games I've played. I still listen to Driftveil City's theme all the time, and there's probably a lot of stuff I'm neglecting to remember.

I should really play White again. Or actually play White 2, I suppose.

For me, B2/W2 didn't live up to the originals, but apparently most people enjoyed them so idk (they certainly addressed the complaints about the unavailability of older Pokémon and the wolverine publicity given to Pikachu in B/W). It's still completely worth playing, especially if you're able to activate the unova link function (am i naming that right? if you have two DS consoles to hand, you can activate flashbacks in-game that show stuff that happened either during black/white or in between, and any mention of the b/w protagonist has its name set to yours). B2/W2 still has a great soundtrack, keeping a lot of the themes from B/W and introducing a great title screen theme.

I got Black rather than White, although I'm actually planning to get White and White 2 at some point so that I can catch some more legendaries.

My favourite piece from the B/W soundtrack has to be The Day I Became King (from the intro scene showing N's coronation). It was part of what made me realise that Black and White were going to be something very different -- from the get-go there was an entirely different piece of music with an introduction that defied the previous intro format (the same one that later games returned to). The whole thing was brilliant, though.

  12. I'm partial to X and Y, mainly because I liked many of the new/old features introduced/reintroduced. But N was totally rad so approval

I love X and Y's gameplay, and very little could make me happier than Black and White remade for 3DS, with the beautiful shots of Unova enhanced by the better graphics and, of course, the soundtrack remastered with the greater sound capabilities of the 3DS in mind.

    *fingers crossed*

    [snip]

I feel at this point that I should clarify that my comments on characters were somewhat of an exaggeration, (as i'd hoped would be made clear by the comment on controversy at the end) although I still disagree with some of your points -- the plots of Cheren and Bianca, in keeping with the attention that Gen V gave to plot and character development, were very well done. Even the Gym Leaders were well handled, especially given the flashbacks shown in B2/W2. It would be very difficult to argue against any of the characterisation in Gen V, because all of the characters were great.

However, Gen VI didn't really introduce anything new. Character-wise, yes, Looker got a little more depth, despite his status primarily as a comic relief character, and Emma was something quite different, which I liked (the Looker plot was far better than the main plot of X and Y). However, I disagree about Lysandre being a compelling character -- rather than being something new, he feels like the developers expected us to have just forgotten Gen IV happened. Looking over Gen V, we moved from destroying the universe and creating a new one to... essentially destroying the universe and creating a new one? His motivations are almost identical to Cyrus', even if his plan is not. And we get an introduction to a character who lost his Pokémon; even with the darker backstory, it does feel an awful lot like Alder's history, minus the elements brought in in order to give the game its 'plot'. It feels like they wanted an excuse for the machine, so they recycled a pre-existing backstory and shook it up a little.

Gen VI seriously improved the gaming experience, but the story and characters in the main plot were just too similar to previous instalments in my opinion. I do count the characters as characters, I just don't consider them particularly good characters.

I love White, it is still my favorite game in the franchise. I loved the designs, the sometimes theatrical feel of the world, the pokemon, the entire feel of the region, oh man. Fantastic games. N is cool too.

as i said before, 3DS remake

But, yeah, Black and White are my favorite story in terms of Pokemon games.  X and Y have my all-time least favorite story for any Pokemon game (mostly because I'm a fan of classic fairy tales, and boy did they screw up big time.  I digress).

I always thought that there was supposed to be an unspoken attraction between N and the player character (but that's probably my uncanny ability for weird shipping.  Heck, I just shipped Mata Nui and Macku in another blog this week).  In the sequel, when you figure out the previous player character left in search of N, though, my brain told me it was canon.

it's so canon, i refuse to accept the idea that it's not

i feel like the whole shaunaxprotag thing was made clearer in Gen VI because they were like 'oh people didn't get the N thing we gotta make it more obvious'

i ship it so much and i am absolutely certain that it is canon
