  1. Most hobby paints will work in my experience (citadel, testors, etc.) but depending on the material you might need to sand the mask with a fine grit sandpaper to get the finish off first. As long as the material of the mask isn't too flexible the paints should stick. Be sure to use some spray primer first though, or the paint will come right off regardless.
  2. Amazing! It's very clear that a lot of effort was put into this concept, from the artwork to the descriptions to the suprisingly well-fitting acronyms. The result is an interesting take on an old concept, and by far the best human/bionicle combination I've ever seen.
  3. You might want to work on your coloring a bit, it looks patchy in some places.
  4. Shame that they don't fit. Though if you have some time and a couple bucks you could probably replace the too-small axle with the end of a sawn-off axle,
  5. The emotion shown from the pose is great, and makes up for the difficulty of static facial features. Brilliant work.
  6. Welp, enough seems to have been said about the proportions, so I'll lay off that. Firstly, the bohrok are excellent! I love the dynamic feel of the one on the left espectially! The posing of Tahu and Kopaka I don't like as much though. They both seem unbalanced, and that makes the piece as a whole seem a little unbalanced. Maybe contrasting some more staic poses with the movement of the bohrok would have added a bit. Also, Tahu looks like he's about to stick his face in the fire he just made, but that's just me being nit-picky. Overall it's a pretty good piece, your friend definitely got his money's worth!
  7. Man, now I want tacos.
  8. I do like the design of the character, but I would want to see what they look like with some point-source illumination rather than pillow shading.
  9. Definitely like the layout of the banner, but I feel that it needs more contrast. And this is probably a bit nit-picky, but the fact that the highlight on the hau doesn't match the gradient of the background throws me off. That's more of a stylistci choice than anything though.
  10. Lovely re-interpretations of the characters. The fluffiness of the fur trim is what gets me the most, strangely enough.
  11. Good concept, but you might want to use some thicker paper for water colors.
  12. Time for another batch of painty goodness from your friends at Modalt! This time we have a batch painted at Brickfair VA '14. Thanks to all those folks that came and visited our table there! Apologies for the blurriness of this one. I have done one of these already, but this one has a much better picture of it. This mask I actually painted a while ago, but forgot to take a picture of before I sold it. Luckily the buyer was at Brickfair this year, and allowed me to borrow it a moment for a quick pic. That's all for today, but be sure to check out Modalt Masks on BrickLink and Ebay for sales, and the Modalt Masks DA page for pictures of all the masks I've painted! Update: We now have a dedicated site for the masks as well!
  13. The arms seem a bit thin, but you did an excellent job on the torso!
  14. Nice work! I love the amount of emotion conveyed.

Nice enough, but seeing a bit more variety in viewing angles or materiality would be more interesting in my opinion, as opposed to just a viety of colors on one base template.
  16. Well, considering it has been quite some time since I last uploaded anything, I figured I should inundate you with images now. A couple of armor sets. And a couple that I painted (and sold for the most part) at BrickFair VA 2013. Now these two are pretty much identical, and I couldn't decide which one to post, so I'll let you guys decide which one you like more. This was a pretty big post since I haven't updated for a while, so don't expect anything as big as this in the future. I'm curious though, if you guys wanted to see a particular paint job or simple conversion on a mask, what would it be?
  17. What's the deadline for shirt designs?
  18. Where did you get the tan kanoka? it's pretty neat!
  19. I made a scrap for that kakama, never posted pics of it though. I'll post it later when I'm off vacation and give you the link here
  20. Haha, what chro said, I already have a store that I don't think I can mention, but I do have a topic in the buy/sell/trade forums. I've made quite a bit of money so far. I seem to think you've commented on at least one of my few topics, but I could be mistaken. As for the examples, thanks for those What actually prompted me to actually go and buy Stormer was a post by you about that large olive painted HF moc.
  21. I've had the idea for a while now to paint Hero Factory stuff, since it's so nice and smooth, you don't have to worry about joints, and there's basically infinity things you can do with it, but it's just too expensive right now to go full-business model with it. But, I just bought a Stormer 3.0 off ebay, and I'm going to custom paint the armor and sell the full figure! I'd like some feedback on what sets you think would be the COOLEST to paint! (i.e. the highest ratio of 'price you'd pay' to 'price it costs') I picked Stormer 3.0 for a first try since he's a pretty popular hero, and I got him pretty cheap. (plus I could probably sell the finished painted figure for double!) But it might be neat to paint Voltixx, Toxic Reapa, Stormer XL, etc. What do you think? I doubt I'll tackle painting large characters like Witch Doctor and Stormer, since they would have to be VERY expensive. Also, how much do you think painted figures (bionicle OR hf) would be worth, if you are the kind of person that would be interested in buying that stuff? I'm working on a fully painted, posed, and glue Toa Mata team, starting with Kopaka, and might be open to painting other full figures.
  22. Awesome Thanks, highlighting like that can make any mask look good!
  23. Here's the new modalt masks that were made in may! Check out the full thread for the masks if you're interested: here. These are all painted by hand with citadel paints by me, Mr. Cod. All but the steampunk akaku are available right now.
  24. If you're going to be displaying at Brickfair VA, you can pay with cash (and I offer a $2 discount on all masks for people displaying), but otherwise I only take money orders or paypal. You can email me to work it out. Commissioning a full set of masks would not be out of the question at all, and I can probably knock down the total price for all six to $40, unless you want the intricate freehand, which is a bit extra. Right now I'm working on a set of the original six figures, glued and fully painted, not sure when that will be done though. Thanks!
  25. The pakaku is not yours, I'll send you pics of yours soon. It looks great though The huna has been bought, but I have a similar one too, here: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=5631524
