  1. Just............just reboot an all-girl Bionicle. See where it goes. I'd do it. I'd watch it transpire. Best case scenario is it's accepted with open arms and messes with previous notions about demographic, worst case scenario is. Well, worst case scenario is My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I dunno if that's a serious answer. I'd maybe do a 1:1 ratio without gender locks like most people here are suggesting, and bring back a girl Onua or Kopaka or something, have 2-4 female members of the team. That is, if I kept the Toa Mata. Which I wouldn't. They've had more than enough time to shine. Anyway my original idea was good I think. Maybe I could do a fanfic. Oh my gosh
  2. I've always been a HUGE Lhidhiki fan (Lhikan/Nidhiki) and could talk a lot about it. I WON'T talk a lot about it, but I could. Pohatu/Kopaka is pretty good also and theres actually some fanfic and such with that pairing in it. Which is great cuz romantic Bionicle fics are so rare. Also Matau/Nokama is sorta cute.
  3. and uh, there's a buncha major story-altering thoughts i mentioned before, hope it's not bad of me to put them here too. oops. Oh no, I really like these. Some more concerned with, like, "the integrity of the story bible" might have issues with headcanons that defy what's been stated in-story or offered as word of god, but it's not like you're trying to tell people stuff happened in the story. Just offering some alternative ideas that make Bionicle make a bit more sense and less of a boy's club. I'll admit I'm VERY into the idea that Lewa and Onua could be considered female characters, or at least not aligned with the male/female binary. I dunno if I'd consider it a "headcanon" or just "something I like to think about." I do sorta like Psionics though. If I wanted to blatantly disregard a part of the canon surrounding that mess it'd be the gender deal. They were all female all along. Orde is an outlier adn should not have been counted. I like Rahkshi being a bit more sapient than we've been led to believe. Isn't there an RPG here about that? We've got, what, Matoran, Skakdi, Steltians...Makuta...Zyglak...and then just a ton of unnamed species. Why not show Rahkshi in their own environment with their own culture? Maybe there are Kraata who didn't originate from Makuta in the first place. An island or more full of peaceful Rahkshi would be nice I think.
  4. Huh, I assumed it belonged here because it's more general (e.g. can cross between Gen 1-2, can be about sets or other media outside the main canon) but if S&T is a better place that's my mistake. Anyway another headcanon I have is Axonn is a Toa fusion, a permanent one possibly caused by energized protodermis. But he's content with this form and feels complete, unlike Prototype who lives in anguish.
  5. In a meta sense I'd say the immoral masks are immoral because the concept of immoral masks was made up in like 2008 but some of the masks that seem pretty immoral on principle like the Komau came way earlier. I always assumed the storyline explanation for that was "even the less immoral ones have associations with the Makuta so a Toa wouldn't use it anyway." Also, they are just powers after all. X-Ray Vision or Charisma or Detection can probably be used for objectives just as nefarious as making someone do your bidding. So clearly there's something that sets apart, say, Time Duplicates or Repulsion from any power that can be used for good or evil. I'm willing to guess that what sets them apart is that Makuta use them.
  6. The idea of rebooting something old is pretty alluring. I'm guilty of never letting a project die as well, I'm constantly reworking stuff I dropped years ago because I thought the idea was stupid! Bioni-Lords actually sounds...familiar? Did you ever post it on here? If you think it's worth pursuing even just for yourself go for it :U
  7. Ooh, neat. I really like the idea of healers whose power isn't based upon removing damage, but instead transferring it from one target to another. Sort of where I was going with the elemental energy transfer mask. Perhaps it could be used in a more open-ended manner, like trading your own injuries to others to heal yourself? A jerk move against allies but it could be a weaponized form of healing, sort of like a draining attack. @xccj: Duplicator? You mean like splitting a Vahki in half and repairing both halves to make two wholes? that's definitely a cool idea and I've definitely never thought of it but there might be some restriction in place as to how much it can repair. Like, restoring a lot of physical matter might be too tough, but I can see it kinda "cauterizing" the edges and making the mechanical parts of a machine work again? What if Removes Poison was a bit less literal? You could maybe use it to diffuse mental unease, as if the problems floating around in someone's mind were a type of poison. Ooh! Or: there's beneficial bacteria inside the human body, so maybe Matoran have a similar premise as well. If "poison" is open-ended, maybe beneficial microorganisms would be targeted. Use a Remove Poison Kanoka to...actually make somebody sick.
  8. For those of you who don't know, a headcanon is what fans of a work will use to describe their interpretation of gaps within a story's events or confirmed facts (its canon). Like theories it may be backed up by a lot of fact but unlike theory it could just be something totally speculative or goofy that doesn't need any evidence to back it up. For instance, there's no canon explanation for how Kapura gets from point A to point B so fast, so someone might headcanon that he has a special mutation, or is secretly a mad scientist who constructed a quick travel machine. Headcanon can also just deviate from what the canon states, most will acknowledge their personal interpretation is false but that can't stop you from interpreting it that way (looking at romantic shippers especially, romance not truly canon and all). Anyway, do you have headcanons? What are yours? Here's one of mine: It may have stemmed from the terrible lack of female characters in Bionicle, but I also think it'd be cool to have the concept explored more in fan works. I personally like to think that rather than having two genders, Matoran and Toa have something like a dozen. They're far more nuanced than what we would consider "male/female," so we consider a massive handful of the elements "male" and a couple of them "female." But Matoran have a vast array of traits they consider conforming to one gender or another. For instance Ko- and Le-Matoran might universally have the same gender which is different from that of a Ta-Matoran or a De-Matoran, but they're all considered masculine when translated to Earth languages. The gender shared by Air and Ice Matoran would be far more "feminine" than Iron or Rock, but not as feminine as Water or Lightning.
  9. (reposted from my blog elsewhere) i’d like to see more regenerative mask powers in bionicle fanfics tbh. like there’s the canon mask of regeneration, and in mask of light gali uses water to heal tahu’s poison (though i dunno if this is strictly canon or just a movie thing that’s considered canon by default and it just has to be now) but most mask powers or elemental powers are highly combative. with the mask of life playing such a big role you’d think these masks would be more common as someone who likes playing cleric/healer roles in RPGs i think itd be nice to see more toa with medic powers, either during battle, after battle, or just in general. toa do more than battle! anyway how about a mask of quick healing? like, when you use it it accelerates your own body’s natural healing process a la wolverine a mask of poison removal, which already exists as a kanoka a mask that lets you restore forgotten memories, or dredge up knowledge from others’ subconscious? a mask which allows you to pinpoint the damage or non-working parts of a machine (or maybe even an organic body to a trained user) in order to fix it a mask which converts the user’s elemental energy into elemental energy usable by the target, e.g. a toa of air drains his own elemental energy in order to give a toa of fire a boost anyway this got too long. does anyone have any other ideas? (also i doodled a calliope...check it out.. i should draw more often i think..)
  10. I love the Hagah but it's possible that more of them would have masks in the shapes of "iconic masks" or such like Norik did. I wouldn't rule out one with a Hau-shaped mask to represent the Great Spirit. Unless Norik, in-story, is the odd one out. It really makes me wonder why they made one unique mold for the pair of sets instead of just doing two. Lego seems to be fine doing new molds for new characters if they aren't store-exclusive or rare or whatever. I wonder if it was originally intended as a Mask of Regeneration? The "carved in the shape of another mask" excuse seems kind of flimsy. Anyway the one thing I really have wondered about the Hagah is their armor. They seem to have precious metals as armor so maybe there'd be more gold and platinum but maybe they'd all have different varieties: silver, bronze, chrome, obsidian? Those aren't all precious but hey :-p
  11. Nigel Thornberry? haha as if that wouldn't be the HIGHEST of compliments As long as nobody photoshops Vezon's face onto me :-p Let's put a smile on that face. OH NO THE CRUEL REPERCUSSIONS OF GIVING AN EXAMPLE OF SOMETHING THAT WOULD BE WORSE
  12. Arcee

    a thing

    awwwww yeah
  13. I haven't ever played Kingdom Hearts but I believe KH1 and KH2 are the only game within the main storyline, the rest are spinoffs or mid-quels, but I may be wrong. They're both on PS2 (and maybe PS3 as a rerelease or something? It's definitely on Wikipedia or its own Wiki if you're interested). As for Mega Man, The X series is a really faithful reproduction of the main series but with better controls and graphics, since they were for the SNES and not the NES. Many prefer the main series because it's more iconic, and I am a big fan of MM2 and MM3, but I think the X series is better designed and equally influential. The Robot Masters (core series) are better than the Mavericks (X) though, imo. Legend of Mana is an RPG on Playstation with really beautiful 2D graphics. It has roaming enemies rather than random encounters (speaking of which: I've heard Chrono Trigger works like this and I've heard good things about it) and a unique sort of map system. The overall structure reminds me of Golden Sun, honestly, it makes great use of the color depth and it's an RPG that happened toward the end of the sprite era that really started testing the waters before 3d rpgs were common.
  14. I thought about this one after I posted. I don't own it but I've played through the majority and it's really great. Rayman Legends is also pretty good if you like 2/2.5d platformers.
  15. Pikmin 3 is one of the best Wii U titles out there IMO. Can't think of any others but it's my favorite game for the console save maybe Mario Kart 8. Which is also very good. There's loads of games for Virtual Console too if you're looking at any game that you can download on Wii U. Just off the top of my head there's Earthbound, Super Mario 64, Golden Sun, several Mega Man games, Fire Emblem, Advance Wars.........
  16. Fire Emblem is a great series. The best starting point I think is Awakening, even though it's the most recent. It's the easiest to obtain save for the ones that have been released on virtual console. After that I'd recommend the original or Path of Radiance (which may be hard to find a cheap copy of as it's a sort of rare Game Cube release). As for Final Fantasy, the best IN MY QUITE HUMBLE OPINION are 2, 3, and 7. I haven't gotten around to playing 10 or 13 but I've heard extremely mixed stuff about both so it's probably a matter of opinion? Anyway my personal favorite is 3, and the DS version (an excellent remake imo) is actually available on Steam. So is 4, which is decent. 7 is also on Steam. It can be -kind of- over the top but that's part of the charm of 7, 8, and 9 imo. If you do like Final Fantasy, you might want to try out Golden Sun or The Legend of Mana, both very iconic RPGs that follow the FF formula. There's also Bravely Default, a recent RPG which I really like. It's got a WHOLE lot of customization as far as job/weapon/ability goes and the story is alright. I notice you like Mother and are playing some Metroid games. I'd highly recommend Super Metroid, it's one of the greatest exploration platformers of all time IMO and has a similar dark/psychological feel. It's certainly not as feel-good as the Mother series can be though. I'm not a big fan of Metroid 1 but it's similar. They're both on the virtual console. If you end up liking the Ace Attorney series, Layton vs. Ace Attorney is very good. I'm not too fond of Professor Layton games but it holds up very well and doesn't come across as any less good than games from either series. Likewise Apollo Justice and Dual Destinies are good too. Happy gaming :U
  17. I fell sort of backwards into Bionicle. Like Aanchir I was into Technic and Slizers when I was a kid and then the Bionicle comics started coming out and of course I thought they were the coolest thing. I was pretty young though...8 years old?? I didn't get any sets until the Nuva came out for whatever reason but I remember really liking the concept of the comic books. I didn't remember their names or care about the story but I'd play make-believe with my friends. "I'm gonna be the green one he has air powers" etc. My memory of this is actually really vivid. It's nice to remember how big an impact Bionicle had on me even over 10 years ago.
  18. The Great Beings would've been cool to see but that might've just been disappointing. Personally I headcanon them as fully organic and maybe the whole idea was to keep them mysterious. Also: Toa Nidhiki and Lariska, of course. Lhikan-era stuff is some of the best Bionicle story imo.
  19. The headbutting thing is pretty cool IMO but not my favorite part of the Bohrok and by far not my favorite function. The Bohrok transforming into balls though, that was really really cool. They rolled, they went in their canisters and hung from the top, they just looked like the super cool robot bugs they were supposed to be. The only function I think competes is the Manas being RC but that's just because I think the experimental nature of early stuff was really silly. Lego testing the waters with what functions sold and which didn't. Electronic aspects are something I'm glad never really showed up again but it was interesting to see them try.
  20. I think a simpler solution to expanding G1 is something we thankfully have a whole lot of here on BZPower: fanfiction, plain and simple. I understand that a lot of fans may be looking for something that could fit within the Bionicle canon, or follows the existing characters, or seems like something that could be part of the actual storyline, but that's the beauty of it. There's alternate canon and there are stories that follow existing rules and history. Trying to create one Cohesive Thing wouldn't work, I don't think, because of the creative disagreements everyone's mentioned. I guess if you really miss the sets, the comics, the commercials, etc, it'd be much harder to find than art, stories, or comedies, but there are some pretty ambitious projects out there. I don't think we need to try to emulate something Lego would do.
  21. Nigel Thornberry? haha as if that wouldn't be the HIGHEST of compliments As long as nobody photoshops Vezon's face onto me :-p
  22. thanks! im really getting back into sewing lately. this is my first really good handmade costume i think. have you heard about insight? gcrowds season 2, its coming out like... next month?
  23. (i can finally post this now that my premier membership has been fixed...thanks b6 ;-p) so, I went to Acen in Rosemont last weekend, as per tradition. It was a lot of fun and I'd be more wordy but I'm feeling a bit down so instead I'll just share my cosplay pics and what I bought in the vendor hall. I cosplayed Rui Ninomiya from Gatchaman Crowds. Any Acen-goers on BZPower?? We should hang out next year!!! (alternatively, Anime Midwest is coming up......:3) And yes, I commissioned a Pohatu/Kopaka picture from artist alley. I didn't want to sound like a COMPLETE nerd so I didn't request something shippy......I got something funny instead. Face blacked out to spare you. YOU DONT WANNA SEE MY UGLY MUG ;--) THE SPOILS!!!
  24. Fikou and Mukau are probably the cutest, most streamlined, and use pieces most efficiently. That said, though, if we're not talking small alternate models, the Mana Ko is a genuinely good full-size combiner IMO. That really can't be said for many official combiners from any year.
  25. So, I guess youtube embedded links are ok on BZP now? Let me know if it's not ok in the blogs, or whatever. Anyway, I want to start a thingy, not with any regularity, I'm just gonna, I dunno. Post a song sometimes. It'll be fun I guess. Here's a new song by a not-so-guilty pleasure of mine, arguably one of the best songs off this annoyingly folksy band's newest record, a concept album about wrestling. I guess. The lyrics are nothing too profound or special, it's no "Up With the Wolves" or "Autoclave" or "No Children" that's for sure, but that's what makes this album good imo. It foregoes the gloom and doom of Talahassee and The Life of the World to Come and instead introduces an earnest blend of optimism and honesty. Anyway, here's "Foreign Object" by The Mountain Goats If you can't beat 'em let 'em bleed like pigs
