  1. Other LEGO villains would have been pretty exciting in The LEGO Dimensions Batman Movie too... There's now a reddit thread seemingly confirming this.
  2. Benjamin is ChocolateFrogs (and apparently not reading this thread)
  3. I had been thinking dark tan - however, I wouldn't put it past them to use dark tan bricks to represent an element in gold or copper. Even the model shops don't have that wide of a variety of bricks in any gold colors...
  4. Maybe some other time. I'm really behind on Edward and Friends still.
  5. Over on my other outlet, I've focused in on the ninja's tassel - an apparent hint that the normal LEGO part might be produced in a new color this year (so far, it's only available in black). Ugh, typos in this post. Embarrassing.
  6. No, we haven't covered the highlight of the show yet. Unfortunately, it doesn't involve LEGO - KNEX put out a pretty fantastic display this year. ...but the Speeder Bike is definitely one of the better LEGO sets coming up.
  7. [citation needed] Fair enough, but I wanted to avoid discussing the controversy on our front page. There's some disagreement over exactly what the facts are, and I didn't want to take a side (especially not on BZPower's behalf). My understanding of the issue, as informed by a variety of in-person conversations, e-mail threads, and social media rants: Coaster Dynamix had previously had a relationship with Adam Reed Tucker (an LCP who is largely responsible for starting the Architecture series). The gossip breaks differently depending who you hear it from, but apparently that relationship ended badly and Coaster Dynamix discontinued Adam's "Roller Coaster Factory" sets (like this) in favor of developing a different LEGO-compatible roller coaster system. Coaster Dynamix is now rolling out a supposedly completely new system that doesn't build off of the previous one. Adam put the word out a while back that AFOLs shouldn't buy the new system because he thinks it is still based on his work. Last I heard, there were still legal proceedings taking place regarding whether or not Adam should be compensated further for his previous involvement in Coaster Dynamix' LEGO-compatible products. The last few concrete things I heard about that situation were gossip-y comments in person last November. Since then, I had been informed that the new Roller Coaster kits would be coming out "soon", but I hadn't seen any new details of the sets before Toy Fair (there was an AFOL at BrickFair Alabama who had a dinosaur theme park layout that uses some parts from Coaster Dynamix, but that was all I'd seen of the system - and I didn't know how current those were relative to the upcoming kits). ...admittedly, I don't think there's much overlap between the Bionicle community and the parts of the AFOL community that I associate more with Adam Reed Tucker (mainly Architecture, the LEGO Certified Professional program, and the Brickworld convention in Chicago). However, this was a topic of interest to the larger LEGO fan community, and the presence of one kit in an unexpected area made it likely that other LEGO fan outlets would miss it (even if they were already at Toy Fair in person). There are other reasons the kits were hotly debated - Kickstarters that dragged out, delays in getting Roller Coaster Factory kits, issues with purism ("it's not really LEGO!"), arguments over the quality of the parts, etc. I'm not that interested in going down the rabbit hole, but I feel like I've heard an unusual amount of debate about Coaster Dynamix' attempts to enter the LEGO hobbyist market since the first Roller Coaster Factory sets were unveiled at Brickworld Chicago 2013.
  8. Sorry we missed you! It was my fault anyways, but who knows, if there's a meet up in the future I might make that. I just hope everyone else had fun talking about les boonkles! Les Boonkles? I think Les Paul and Les Moonves might have came up... I've already started angling for a more expansive trip next year. Assuming my health holds up, of course...we left NY three days ago and my feet are still sore and swollen from walking around.
  9. It's the gears thing, innit? We also got an Exo-Suit last year, and an ostrich the year before that. Oh, and plenty of rare colors, bizarre shapes, and more licensed goodies...
  10. I did get a few pictures of the books at the booth. Both have been finalized and look great. Maybe tomorrow...
  11. I voted for DUPLO. Those designs have been getting exciting lately, and no one pays attention because it's DUPLO. It's like how I tell most people about Bionicle things... I'm pretty sure everyone really wants to hear about other companies that have the same licenses as LEGO first, but they're going to have to wait until I get around to that...
  12. I like it overall, but...that face is very yellow. Perhaps too yellow. It seems to say cartoon Robin Hood more than Green Arrow. Then again, I think some of those yellow bits might be fairly rare in tan...
  13. Before someone calls me out on it, yes, I know, there was a similar event for kids recently as well. It brings me great shame that I did not put this news post together in time to alert you all about it.
  14. I don't think we should read anything into "retired product" references showing up in related entertainment. Remember, the LEGOLAND parks routinely sell kid-oriented rides slathered in logos and references from lines discontinued before today's kids were born. I've thought of using this for shock value on occasion - imagine running up to the LEGOLAND Florida Aquazone Wave Riders ride (opened in 2011) and seeing someone flip out about how "it took me so long to get here from 1995!" I'm not sure if that's legal, man. You have to watch the movie to see it. We could argue the point, but security at the movie theater won't want to hear about it. Don't risk it - it's not worth getting kicked out of the movie (or worse). That said, my least favorite thing about the movie is how quickly the in-jokes fly by. I felt like we got far less of the brick-built world and LEGO references than we got of close-ups of animated faces.
  15. Come see us! We're fun, really! Well, I'm not, but a few of my LEGO models are, anyway. I'll post more about this event as it gets closer.
  16. I think I saw a shoutout for Bionicle fans in the LEGO Batman Movie, but it went by so quickly that I'm not even sure I really saw it. Now that the movie is out, I think we can talk about references in it (please try to keep this spoiler-free, though). The reference I think I saw is in the first few minutes of the movie. We're shown various scenery in Gotham, including a movie theater. A few movies are advertised here, including "Two Shades of Bley". I think I also saw something along the lines of "The Bionicle Movie" listed next to that. Was that there? Was I imagining it? Was there another reference later on? Am I really too cheap to buy a ticket and watch it again? Would it be worth it just for this?
  17. I have unlimited scanning? Also http://www.spyrius.org/nexo/ has the level five QR coad you can scan. You can only scan so much in a short period of time. You only really notice the limits if you scan a bunch back-to-back.
  18. Maybe I'm a bad person, but all I see are 54200 and 3023 in 312 Medium Nougat. ...and then I look those up, and realize Assembly Square has already made one of those things not seem impossibly exciting. Ah, 2016, it was a different time...
  19. Got any tips? I've heard some recent rumblings about Merlin negatively changing up other LEGOLAND facilities, but I'd still classify that as rumor instead of news...
  20. We know from other announcements that LEGO will be putting some "content" exclusively on the app. There are, of course, obvious reasons why it's unfortunate that they'd put anything exclusively on a kid-oriented social network...but having yelled at a few LEGO employees about this already, I don't think they'll stop putting things in places where they will be lost or forgotten...
  21. Relax, I haven't actually gotten in to report anything yet. At this rate, we might be able to say I report the "olds" instead of the "news"...
  22. Ahem. The definitive satire here has already been written, back in 2003: http://news.lugnet.com/general/?n=43860
  23. Re-scanning powers is silly - you can also master powers by using them in the game more often. Re-scanning uses up your ability to scan more quickly than scanning new powers does. You're better off trying to scan as many powers as possible, and then rotating in powers during gameplay to upgrade them. The random shield packs seem to mix in a few powers that previously only existed as "exclusives" in various locations last year. I'm about 90% sure off the top of my head that Pinball Magician was a LEGOLAND exclusive, and that it now has a tile in the blind bags. It also happens to be a fairly strong power with a memorable animation (and a veiled reference to The Who).
  24. Does this promotion come with a raise? What's 15% more of zero, anyway? Is that what the shovel's for? Thanks, everyone, it's good to know that you're not afraid that I'll be the next Nick Bluetooth. Presumably I'll be told how many snarky comments I can make before I actually get access to post to the front page.
