  1. Keep in mind that there's a lot more evidence for a revival of the theme next year than just two leaked photos and unreliable assumptions. See my post in this topic for a description of each of the events that conclusively prove that the Bionicle theme will be revived in 2015.
  2. I haven't seen it in constraction for a while, but has it disappeared from System, too? I don't buy much System, so I'm not sure if it's been retired completely in favor of Earth Green and Bright Green, but if it's still in use in System, it could theoretically return to constraction. As shown here, Mata Green is still in production in system sets as of this year. We shouldn't completely give up on its return to constraction sets at this time. I get you - it's hard to draw the line that indicates what is too specific, and what is general enough to pass for the purposes of this topic. The Leaked Content Policy states that leaked images are not allowed to be posted, "nor is information gained from them" - take that as you will. For instance, I removed information from a few posts because it contained extensive details, albeit from a secondhand source. (I also had to remove some of the information from quotes in other posts.) I'm admittedly a little unclear myself, so I've been playing it safe with the mod powers here. As for your question - I guess I should say yes, if this whole set color thing was gained through questionable means, you shouldn't discuss the specifics. You can discuss, however, what color you'd like to see any news sets - in general. Should I assume that my previous post is okay in the same manner?
  3. Ummm... you must not have seen the latest leaked information concerning the subject. Also, I actually know that Bionicle is definitely coming back next year, though I can't discuss why. Mods: Is this post okay?
  4. How are there fifteen people viewing this topic right now, yet only two more replies in the last five minutes?
  5. But I feel brown is kind of cool because the green is leafs and the brown is wood. Brown and green would be cool, although I'd still want the brown to be used very sparingly on Lewa if he's released in the revival; ideally, less than 1/4 of his armor or bone piece would be brown or another color that wasn't a shade of green. After all, the green color of leaves is much more visible that the brown color of tree trunks in most forests with large numbers of leafy trees, right? EDIT: Funny as it is, Kopekemaster and I happened to post the exact same opinion at the same time. WHAT IF HIS MASK WAS BROWN! Well, since the mask of a character pretty much takes the place of their face, and since one of the first parts of a humanoid figure that we look at is their face, Lewa's mask would be a very noticeable part of his set. Coloring his mask brown would probably throw customers off from the idea that his main color is green. Ehhhhh, not really, on most of the trees I see. That would be the case for like, a bush or something, though. Actually, the ratio of brown/green on a bush would probably be about perfect for a colour mixed Lewa... I was mainly thinking about the appearance of a forest from Lewa's bird's eye view perspective. Although, you're right that it wouldn't really look mostly green from any other angle. Well, of course it's coming back.

  7. I see. Well, I'll definitely be taking the news with a grain of salt, as you recommended. However, it's nice to know a bit about who your source was. Huh, weird, I know that guy's roommate's cousin's deceased fiance. I know that you're joking, but this is the way that news about highly anticipated releases often travels. I'm serious. I don't necessarily believe that it's correct, but I'd like to be aware that it exists regardless, as I might want to investigate it later. We shouldn't rule out the possibility, however, unlikely, that it could be correct.

I don't buy much System, so I'm not sure if it's been retired completely in favor of Earth Green and Bright Green, but if it's still in use in System, it could theoretically return to constraction. Would you guys mind citing your sources for these tips? How reliable are these sources? Chances are the sources are the leaked images we're not supposed to discuss any detail of. The sources can't be the leaked images, because both of the images are in black and white. I don't doubt that the sources are leaks, though. Um... what ? It's best to be agnostic and wait for the official word from Lego. No, it isn't; not in my book. I'd like to ask for sources and confirm little bits of information as they appear. They're out there, so why not learn about them as soon as possible?

  10. I think I'm missing something here... Not quite. When people said that the pronouns used to refer to the characters is what gave them their gender, they mean the pronouns that the books and authors use. For example, the narration always calls Tahu "he," so we know that Tahu is a boy. If some random Matoran were to decide to call Tahu a woman, or "she," that wouldn't make Tahu any less of a boy. We assume that the narration knows Tahu's true gender identity and selects the correct pronouns to fit it; we think this because the narration is generally omniscient, or told from a perfectly-informed outside perspective. Similarly, Dalu was always referred to using "she" types of pronouns. A sentence involving Dalu might read, "Dalu looked at her arms and saw she had been badly hurt." This shows that Dalu, as tomboyish and pugnacious as she may be, was still comfortable being a girl. After all, in real life, a boy can be feminine without considering himself a girl, or a girl can be masculine without considering herself a boy. Personality is much more complex than just "boys like to fight, girls like to cook"--and I think you'll agree that no one is really that one-sided. If we were, that sure would be boring! Now, I'm also somewhat sympathetic to the idea of each element essentially being a "gender" in Matoran society (i.e., a set of personality traits, societal expectations, etc.), but that still doesn't answer the question of what makes certain Matoran identify as "girls" and others as "boys." After all, if each element were distinct, we would need a dozen pronouns: one for Ta-Matoran, another for Ga-Matoran, another for Ce-Matoran, and so on. Instead, we only have the pronouns "he" and "she." Why are both Ga- and Ce-Matoran referred to using the "she" pronoun? So there's clearly more at work than just a split along elemental lines. Bionicle also had legitimate sexual dimorphism, particularly among the Skakdi, whose females were bigger/badder/meaner than the males. This gets into biological difference in addition to personality, so clearly there's something more to this equation than just the elemental stereotypes. I could go on, but I'm pretty sure I'd just end up repeating Alyska and Kitania et al. Oh, and as for how this relates to the rumored return of Bionicle, um, I'd personally like my own pet theories to come true (so, there, now this post is on-topic). - BioGio i think that Ta or Ga would be the pronouns. Or onu or po etc. Nope; the elemental prefixes are not pronouns in any case. A pronoun is a word used to replace a noun or noun phrase in a sentence, describing the basic category that the replaced noun fits into. In the sentence "they went to the park", they is the pronoun, replacing a noun phrase that involved a group of individuals. A version of the sentence with the noun phrase that was replaced might have read "the Matoran went to the park". Similarly, the sentence "Dalu looked at her arms and saw she had been badly hurt" replaces two instances of the same noun- Dalu's name. It's replaced with "her" the first time and "she" the second time; both are valid pronouns for referring to women or girls in each of their respective cases. Looking back at the first sentence, you're suggesting that we could have replaced "they" with "Ta" or another elemental prefix. Would it make sense to say "Ta went to the park"? Not exactly. For the second sentence, you'd recommend replacing both "her" and "she" with "Ga", right? If we did that, we'd end up with "Dalu looked at Ga arms and saw Ga[i/] had been badly hurt". There's definitely an issue there. Neither of those sentences really make sense; the elemental prefixes are never pronouns, though I can see how you might have made that mistake. Edit: Please do not take shots at other members. -Wind- Edit: I'm sorry. I'll make sure to be more respectful next time around.
  11. I get the feeling that a genderless version of the story would be enjoyed by few people. "Seem to need genders"? We do need genders, as well as several other human characteristics, in order to identify with characters in science fiction or fantasy works. Otherwise, it would be challenging to keep readers interested in the actions of the characters and thus in the story itself. I know that I've never read or heard of a story featuring a protagonist or set of protagonists who were genderless, save a few stories in which the protagonists were robots. Stories that put genderless characters in the spotlight simply don't get written. Interestingly enough, Tamaru is already transgender to several people, including myself. Take a look at this Tumblr post by deadmanswrench, known as ToM Dracone here, and this MOC by Makaru.
  12. You're right, and I'm glad that it was pointed out; it is a huge discussion that leaves plenty of room open for disagreement. I didn't want to give anyone the idea that I believed that all females were different from all males in certain ways; rather, I believe that the most natural way of writing any group of characters is to have them all be different from one another to some degree, with no thought to the genders of any of the characters unless the story or a part of the story concerns it. That's what a complete absence of stereotyping would look like to me.
  13. Operative focus on the term group. A group has to consider it a conception. However, how big is the group? In theory four people could create a conception, argue that it is offensive, make it a stereotype, and then argue that everyone should skate around them because whatever it is is a stereotype and they don't like it, even though they invented it! One person getting offended and getting four people to agree with them is NOT a stereotype. For it to be a stereotype, a group must build the convention about another group of people, and think it's true. Now in this case, you can argue that the stereotype was made by the Great Beings of female Toa. But they made female Toa to be what they were, so they would know exactly who they are. That's "truth" according to my friend Makaru. But the Great Beings didn't type human females as gentle, only female Toa. To suggest that they have typed us is ridiculous - they don't even know we exist. They didn't even type female Agori, but rather female Toa, which they made. Now, back in the realm of "fact": Greg does not qualify as a group. He's one guy. Most of the arguments in this topic have accused him of typing human females using this example, but since the stereotype didn't exist before he wrote the scene, it's not a stereotype. Also, stereotypes by definition don't have to be offensive to the typed party. It's just that they often are. Being offended =/= stereotyping. And there's nothing wrong with wanting more female characters or evener ratios in a Bionicle return or even getting mad at how gender was handled previously, as unproductive as it is. But appealing to stereotypes to try to shove your emotions in other people's faces is not based in truth, fact, or whatever term you all wish to use for it. I've realized that I was looking at all of this from a bad angle, one that I had assumed that others would share. I had equated the stereotyping of female Toa with the stereotyping of female humans, incorrectly assuming that others would make that jump and consider it self-evident that offense should be taken. I'm not even female myself, and I suggested that I'd know what would offend one best. Sorry about that. Just to clarify, are you saying that you'd want there to be two more female Toa per team in addition to the average of one female member of each team already? That sounds like an awesome way of amending the gender ratios to me. I do want to add, though, that leaving the personalities of the new female characters as they would have been if all or most of them were male isn't what many of us might have had in mind. It's completely natural for their to be some differences in the personalities of male and female characters, and in fact doing otherwise is often considered to be a form of stereotyping in itself. A good amount of variety in personalities and traits seems the most intuitive and realistic way to create female characters in a franchise which is dominated by males.
  14. I think they'd make the new masks in a similar fashion to how they remade the Hau in 2010. To be honest I don't even know if the new Hau fits the old heads... does it? Nope, the Hau doesn't fit most heads that were made before it's release; in fact, the only head pieces that it fits are the Av-Matoran head from 2008 and the Glatorian head. Honestly, because their will likely be a desire for a fresh look and possibly an entirely different atmosphere for the reboot, I wouldn't be too surprised if the reboot of the line uses none of the designs of any of the old masks at all, as much as I'd want it too. If it were to bring back the old designs, then they'd probably e compatible with Av-Matoran, Glatorian, and Brain Attack heads only, as those three heads are very similar in shape and size at the area where the mask or helmet attaches, and because that type of head has been in production more than any other type over the last several years. Unfortunately, head such as the Metru mold which are extremely useful for MOCing have been out of production since 2009.
  15. Oddly, neither of which really applies here. Women as having a "gentler touch" could be viewed as stereotypical, but speaking as a person who is taking a class on the subject right now, women being gentler than men is not a stereotype. In fact, there are a number of actual female stereotypes, such as the dragon lady, which make women out to be vicious. Women are weak, women are vicious and emotionally unstable in stereotypeland, in many ways the opposite of gentle. Look it up. Further, saying that a woman is gentle is not an insult or a devaluation. In fact, the word is usually a compliment. Sexist is having attitudes consistent with the above, i.e. viewing women through a stereotypical lense, in this case. Unless you know what the actual stereotypes are, I don't think throwing around the term is useful. In this case, however, the Bionicle story suggests that the group of women as a whole is expected to be more gentle than the group of men as a whole. Does a lack of familiarity with a stereotype make it less hurtful to the group that it's targeting? I'd argue that any explicit generalization of a group around a supposed tendency or trait is a stereotype, regardless of whether or not it is commonly considered to be one.
  16. There's nothing wrong with discussing the sexist implications of parts of the story in this topic. We've been talking about a massive variety of topics relating to the future of Bionicle over the past few weeks, and there's no reason to stop discussing any topic relating to the line that has a significant influence on its future. I'm pretty sure that the ban on his account had been lifted by March. Because he is a normal member on this site in the eyes of the staff, he's subject to the exact same rules regarding bans on member accounts as everyone else. Thus, the lifting of the ban on his account likely has nothing to do with the revival of Bionicle next year.
  17. I just realized that I had a section of my notification list that is entirely devoted to friend requests, as well as the fact that I had six or seven requests waiting for me there. You learn something new about a site like this every day that you're on it.

  18. Your sister nailed the shape of his Miru Nuva; it's definitely unmistakable as Lewa. His face seems to be surprisingly calm, but my favorite part of the drawing by far are the leaves lying behind and around Lewa; they fill out the scene very well, making it look as though he's deep in the jungle of Le-Koro, or a similarly forested place. Lewa is one of the main characters of the Bionicle storyline. For more information on him, check out his page on the BioSector01 wiki. He also happens to be the character depicted in your profile picture.
  19. Unfortunately, we can't get confirmation from Lego on this point. As much as you and many others would like to know whether Lego will be bringing back Bionicle in 2015, they can't do that at this stage in it's development. No company could; it would be too much of a risk to their corporate security to do so. No official word can be given by Lego at this time because they can't allow competing toy companies to know of their plans for future releases, and because the sets might be unfinalized and thus mis-promoted by fans or news sites. Furthermore, it is strictly illegal for any entity other than Lego itself to release images or written descriptions of sets before Lego has already released them themselves to the general public; thus, none of the current leaks should be out on the Internet or anywhere else. However, based on the leaks that have thus far arisen, as well as Lego's impassioned responses to their sharing on Flickr and other photo-sharing sites, as well as Greg's accidental suggestion that Bionicle will be a Lego theme in 2015, as well as the removal of the pinned statement in the Bionicle forum of the LMBs that stated that Bionicle was not among the old themes that Lego was considering reviving, we can be completely certain by this point that Bionicle will be returning in 2015 for sure. Due to the massive amount of unquestionable evidence that has arisen in the past few weeks, anyone who believes that there is a chance that Lego will not be releasing the line again in 2015 is simply misinformed. There is nothing more to argue about; it seems as though a revival is guaranteed.
  20. The price of that set, or of any older Bionicle set, hasn't risen at all; people on Ebay have just decided to begin charging more because they think that they can get away with it. If you decide to check the site as it is today, there could easily be one selling for $12 or less.
  21. No worries. At the moment, you'd probably get the most important new developments out of this topic, where we're trying to determine whether or not we're allowed to talk about a major new leak regarding the names of upcoming sets.
  22. I would think that an online store would count as a trusted source in this case, and furthermore one that could be discussed here under the current leaked content policy, as online stores such as the one in question are often expected to release some information of this type early as part of the nature of their businesses. Of course, since I'm not staff, my word doesn't mean anything unless one of them confirms my thoughts, although I thought that it wouldn't hurt to share my opinion on it. I have several thoughts on the assumed names which I would like to share if a staff member confirms that I am allowed to do so.

  24. Welcome to BZPower, Theoretically!

  25. Sorry about that picture- at the moment, the second one is still publicly visible in this topic on SM.com, and has been for months. Because of that, I assumed that it would be fine to post it here. I've removed the link in my original post. What kind of dyes are these? Are they relatively expensive, then?
