Yeah it sure is, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Sure it's produced a few dumb bits, but if I had to choose between the current, unapologetically zany Bionicle and a "safer" one, I'd easily go with the former. Would I change parts if I could? Yeah, but you take what you get.

Well, I have lime and red Vu, a blue Ca and a light blue Za. Also, a blue Yo-Kal I got off of a friend if that counts.

To me 2005 was the point where Bionicle's story really started to get convoluted. If it hadn't happened, I doubt that would have never happened, but it would have at least been staved off and more of the casual fans would have stuck around... Including me. But I guess that's a story for another time.

I visited this site occasionally back in its heyday, just to check out a few things because so much was going on. However, it was a bit too chaotic for me to stay there for long, so I never actually joined up. Besides, I had lost most of my interest in Bionicle by that time, so I can't imagine getting much out of it. However last year, I began getting a little nostalgic and started to get back into Bionicle, unfortunately when I decided to revisit here I came right in the middle of the downtime. When I finally did join up, I was greeted by something much more similar to the smaller forums I'm used to visiting, so I've made myself quite comfortable here. I have no problem keeping on top of this level of activity. So if we do get a resurgence in popularity and the activity level goes crazy again, I'm not sure if I could handle it! At the very least it ought to be exciting, but I'm not exactly holding my breath for it.

I've always felt that the rules for color/element combos in Bionicle should never really be hard and fast. White can be a water color if you want it to be. Just like How, say, orange can be an earth color. It's not a color that you'd first associate with the element, but if it's pleasing to the eye then there's no reason not to use it.

Look, all I was trying to say was that "Bionicle + Star Wars= Lego saved" is a gross oversimplification and I'm tired of seeing it verbatim. I'm not trying to deny that Bionicle played a role in the recovery, just that it wasn't the key to it like so many people think.

So, it's not Bionicle! Therefore it must be bad? Gee, haven't heard this one before. But let's go over all your points shall we? 1) Yes, Bionicle was more story oriented. So? That's not an objective measure of quality, especially when we're talking about a Lego line. Most lego lines are like HF: they have a looser story that's easy to get into, and to build off of. I can understand if it's not your cup of tea, but that's what HF is aiming for. 2) Okay, I'm tired of seeing this tagline repeated as if the HF story is boring and has no character development because all the heroes are supposed to roll off the assembly line absolutely perfect. I have the most rudimentary knowledge of HF's story possible and I know this isn't true. Besides, the toa mata being purpose-built to save the world sure didn't stop their story from being interesting, did it? 3) I don't know. I'm pretty sure HF has had a substantial amount of online games. Surely not to the extent of Bionicle, I'll concede, but not exactly a dissapointing number. I will admit that the lack of console offerings is a sore spot, though. 4) HF is a smaller theme. As neat as a tie-in media blitz would be I'm sure Lego wouldn't consider it feasible. Besides, Bionicle was kind of the exception for things like that in the first place. I can't think of any theme Lego lavished as much attention to really. 5) Okay first off, most of this I've already addressed in points 1-4. Secondly, I'm surprised you're knocking the building system, i.e. The one thing most people'd say was the definite improvement HF brought to the table. But different strokes I guess. And may I ask what kids don't appreciate? Story based themes? I doubt it, Ninjago and Chima both have story up he wazoo and I'm pretty sure kids are enjoying those. Constraction? Well yeah, you have a point there, but the new theme coming next year has me pretty confident that constraction is gonna be fine. Good grief that took a long time to type. I'm off to bed.

To be honest, they wouldn't feel so out of place if they were more widely distributed, and if the number of neutral colors was cut down on. I'd say you could have black, or gray, or gunmetal, but probably not all 3. (And please do not mix new and old grays if possible.) The build itself is really neat. But maybe different feet and a different weapon? The current ones just feel a little... Underwhelming. And while I like the torso shape it has some protruding bits that throw it off a bit, especially in the lower torso. Overall I'd say it's still better than anything I've done.

You know, between the color scheme, legs, and pointy shoulders, this thing reminds me of an un-dork-ified Kek Powerizer. It's got me imagining some far-off alternate universe where Galidor wasn't lame. But yeah, cool MOC!

You know I'm getting a little tired of seeing Bionicle presented as "the line that saved Lego. It did help yes, being a successful line that helped keep the company afloat in an otherwise bad period, and it was a big part in shaping how future lines were made, but it ultimately didn't stop everything from coming down in '03 and it certainly didn't put the company back on its feet alone. Lego underwent a myriad of changes in the mid-2000s to stay afloat. Shedding unsuccessful ventures, rethinking the way they developed, manufactured and distributed products-- but no, I always hear Bionicle talked about as if it was a magic bullet for Lego's financial woes. Sorry for being a little negative, but I had that bottled up for a while. Edit: Removed the really nasty bits. I didn't mean to get that worked up!

Never before did I think that something that turned out so awesome could still have so much wasted potential.

I just went to a yard sale that had entire bins of old bagged fast food toys and immediately knew to go fishing for McToran. Ultimately, I found Matoro, which was nice, since the only other one I had was Knogu and I lost a few pieces for him. I feel really satsified with myself. He was only a quarter.

I haven't used this forum enough to really consider a Premier Membership yet, and I may or may not in the future. I admit that the rank images look pretty cool, even if they're just for showoff factor. If there was any tangible benefit I'd consider getting it for, it'd be the blog, but I'm not sure if I'd use it often enough to justify that.

I'm not sure if cooking in a canister lid is good for either the condition of the canister, or, for that matter, your health. I'm not going to try it at any rate.

Well, I still have a backlog of MOCs to post, but beyond that maintaining any modicum of activity is good by my book. I have low standards...

I have only encountered one set with a missing piece in my entire time of collecting Lego. Back in 2004, I got one of the minifig-scale Knights' Kingdom sets and one of the dark grey bricks was missing. I figured that it wasn't that big a deal, since I could just substitute one of the old bricks from my collection. However, looking at it some time later, I noticed that the old brick stuck out like a store thumb in the middle of the new ones. And for the first time, I realized Lego had completely changed the shade of their grey bricks. Dangit.

As soon as I saw his thread I took a pen and paper and tried writing he whole alphabet from memory. My conclusion: I've gotten really rusty at this, and I wasn't even that good in the first place...

Very little. Okay, I often keep certain kinds of parts lazily separated (technic beams in this bin, minifigs in this bag,) but a lot of it is still just thrown together. Getting everything fully sorted out and neatly stored is going to be my project for the new year.

I'll do this. I've had ideas like this for ages. I already have something in the pipeline, but I figured I'd finally let everyone know. I might even include little storyboards if possible.

If I remember correctly, my first Bionicle set was the Nui-Jaga for Christmas of '01 (well, I think it was Christmas at least.) Anyway, it wasn't just my first Bionicle set, it was my first time ever building with Technic. It confused the heck out of me and I very nearly gave up halfway through. It wound up taken apart and mixed up in a bin with all my other sets after a short while, but that was the way it was back then. I might re-assemble it one day for nostalgia purposes.
