  1. OOC: only took two years huh

also i had the wonderful problem where you are auto-logged out while writing so i had to rewrite the dartakh section from scratch, love when this happens

    IC: Sir Dahkapa (Ko-Koro Gates)

It had taken a while, but Dahkapa was finally back home. The cold and clean mountain air was a welcome relief from the hot and dusty winds of Po-Wahi.

He had been right, leaving the Blackrock Canyon. There had been plenty of time to think about many things. Which included not going to Ko-Koro in the first place. Part of him expected the guards to already see him as an enemy instead of a friend, yet thankfully they seemed to let him enter.

He had thought about how difficult it was to convert followers of Mata Nui without the conversion methods of the Brotherhood. Now he understood their grim necessity. But he still refused to use them. He had to be better than that. The easiest path was never the route to salvation. True redemption required trials and sacrifice.

If it meant sacrificing a potential friend, so be it. He was willing to sacrifice so much more for Ak'rei'an.

He looked around the gates of Ko-Koro, partially expecting to see Joskander. But he was nowhere to be seen.

It did not matter. His mind had been set in stone. Fitting, after visiting Po-Wahi. His long steps followed the shortest route to a certain unremarkable alleyway.

    IC: Dartakh (The Dark Walk)

While Dartakh was satisfied to be offered a free meal and hear his name pronounced correctly, he did not let it distract himself from what was happening. He watched closely as the Lieutenant fired the perfect shot.

    "Impressive," he muttered.

Then came the order to move. In his mind, Dartakh criticized the Lieutenant for giving an unclear order. Who should move, and where? But now was not the time for lessons in leadership. They had to survive this ordeal first.

Obeying his first order, Dartakh remained close to the Lieutenant's clone. But also obeying his new order, he moved in front of the clone, his shield raised and mace ready to strike. His eyes fixated on the enemy, yet his senses remained aware of his surroundings. He was ready to either attack or retreat if ordered to do so.

  2. IC: Xani (Streets of Atero)

Xani offered a polite smile to Jeizmel. "Thank you for the compliment. Good luck with your endeavours, you two. I don't plan on leaving Atero just yet, even if I've already made a profit. Perhaps you two were just the first two customers of the day, and I'll find many more." She didn't believe her own words.

She bowed respectfully to each of them, then turned to her chariot and the Spikit guiding it. The ravenous creature snapped its jaws at her, startling Xani. "Oh, right, I should go buy some food for this savage creature." She calmed herself and took out a whip from the cargo sled, then skillfully lashed at the Spikit several times. The creature whined from pain and bled a little, which seemed to subdue it somewhat. Xani then started to guide it back inside the stable, keeping herself at a safe distance from the twin-headed beast's salivating mouths.

  3. IC: Xani (Streets of Atero)

Xani nodded gratefully and gave Vraek the shimmering crystal necklace. Her remark about Iconox was so relatable it made her chuckle. "Thank you, thank you. Maybe this trinket will give you luck in battle."

Then she turned to face Jeizmel, pleased to see she was already admiring her bracelet. "Thank you as well. As for Tajun... well, I haven't been there in a while, so maybe I should revisit it."

Of course, she had no reason to go to a place that did not participate in slave trade. But maybe they'd appreciate her works as much as these two did. Already, she was fantasizing about returning to her old life. But these two felt like exceptions. Who could say if she'd find more good customers like this? At least, there was always demand for slaves. Always.

At the very least, this "vacation trip" to Atero had already turned out better than she had expected, she thought as she counted the money. Now she could take it easy.

"So, I suppose that's everything? You probably have places to go to or things to do. When's that tournament starting, anyways?"

  4. IC: Xani (Streets of Atero)

Xani smiled when Vraek pointed at a necklace and Jeizmel asked about the bracelet. It wasn't a wide smile, as they were far from being her most elaborate or laborious creations and thus she couldn't charge too much for them, but money was money. She did think about the fact that a single slave was worth about a dozen or more of her necklaces or bracelets.

She offered the necklace to Vraek and the bracelet to Jeizmel. Both of them had small paper price tags attached to them. "Wonderful choices! Of course, I accept payment in any currency you have. I'm sure you two find the prices to be reasonable." They were rather expensive trinkets.

OOC: what currencies are even used in bara magna coz i forgor and cant find any info so i improvised

  5. IC: Xani (Streets of Atero)

"Well, of course, of course," she said to Vraek with a slight chuckle. "My crafts are meant to be admired, not used in battle. Though you shouldn't underestimate the sharpness of crystal, either."

She then turned to Jeizmel with a smile. "Anything helps. Money is hard to come by these days." Unless you were a slave trader, of course.

Finally, she turned back to face the direction she had come from, and urged the two to follow with a motion of her hand. "Come, I have not yet unloaded by goods since arriving here, so everything is still in the stables. Follow me..."

After a short while of walking, she arrived near the city gates. "Wait here," she told the two and walked inside the stables. Not much time passed before a rowdy two-headed Spikit pulled a chariot outside, guided by Xani. She then started to unload some of the crystal crafts from the cargo sled that was attached to the chariot.

"Don't mind the Spikit, I haven't fed it in a while, I really should go buy food for it before it eats anyone... which you can help me with by buying any of these!" She showed various crystalline items to the two, such as rings, bracelets, masks, ceremonial weapons, necklaces, drinking glasses and so on. They were all polished to perfection and expertly made. "What do you think?"

  6. IC: Sir Dahkapa (Blackrock Canyon)

Dahkapa raised an eyebrow. It seemed like Joskander had decided to leave him behind. His previous bitter warning about lack of water now seemed pointless, as he probably wouldn't run out if he'd cross the desert at this speed.

Joskander hadn't uttered a single word about what he was planning, but he knew it wasn't anything good. Part of him thought that returning to Ko-Koro would be a bad idea. And perhaps it was. But with Ak'rei'an on his side, he had nothing to fear. Let the heathen plot whatever he wished, he thought, and continued marching across the desert. Without a Mask of Speed, it would be a lengthy and slow journey. Plenty of time to think.

  7. IC: Sir Dahkapa (Blackrock Canyon)

"Back to Ko-Koro," he replied without turning back to face him or stopping. He was heading back the way they had come. "I care not if you follow, but the desert is treacherous to cross alone... especially without water, or ice. Might be wise for you to do so. But don't expect much generosity or kindness from me."

    OOC: @Endless Sea (Alaki Nuva)

  8. IC: Xani (Streets of Atero)

"Thank you, thank you," she said with a smile. "And yes, of course I made it with my very own hands. I have a variety of masks, too, but I feel like this is one of my finest."

It was good that there were some who appreciated true art. But it was a different question if they were willing to pay to acquire it, unfortunately. "If you have the time to spare, you could come with me so I can show you more of my work. And, of course, you can buy some of the crafts if you'd like, for a good price."

If she didn't make any money on this Atero trip, she'd have to pay another visit to the... well, she preferred not to think about it for now.

  9. OOC: xani wasnt directly speaking to jeizmel so i figured i can "skip turn" so jeizmel has something she can respond to

    IC: Xani (Streets of Atero)

"Well... I am not exactly a 'fan' of the violent brutish tournaments. I am mostly just happy to see members of my tribe here! I feel like outsiders never really understand us or our practices, you see. Like crystal crafting for example. Speaking of which, would either of you be interested in seeing my works?"

She blinked as she realized she had forgotten about something. "Ah, pardon my lack of manners," she said with an apologetic nod. "My name is Xani. Pleasure to meet both of you."

"Aaaah okay I get it now. Interesting arrangement, we uh, didn't have anything like this in Po-Koro, at least back when I was last there."

She walked behind Ferron, following him and somewhat anxiously glancing at any strangers who happened to pass by.

"So uh... have you been to this place before? To the one we're going to right now, I mean. Is the staff there friendly?"

  11. IC: Sir Dahkapa (Blackrock Canyon)

He sighed. "I see it is going to take a long time before I can disassociate my faith from the Brotherhood in the eyes of Mata Nui's followers. But it matters not, as I am patient. There is much to be done..."

With his foot, he kicked the tablet on the ground, shattering it into pieces which scattered into the sands. Then, he walked past Joskander, not looking behind him as he headed out of the canyon.

He said nothing as he left.

  12. IC: Xani (Streets of Atero)

"Ah, yes, that was the name," she said with a forced chuckle. "And well, some Glatorian fight for the highest bidder, not for their tribe. But I am glad to hear you're loyal to your people! There are more important things in life than money, after all."

She glanced at the Agori next to Vraek. "And uh, is this an assistant of yours? Or a fan, perhaps?"

"To an unbeliever I may indeed seem like a madman, but that could not be further from the truth. You do not know what it is like to be filled with zealous fervor. Being passionate about something greater than yourself is a great feeling... if only you were not so closed-minded, you could feel the same way."

    OOC: @Endless Sea (Alaki Nuva)

  14. IC: Sir Dahkapa (Blackrock Canyon)

He let out a dry chuckle. "The way you said it makes it sound like Ak'rei'an is a god who gives death, instead of a god who can save us from death. It appears that you are once again prejudiced. I've been trying to make you understand that the Brotherhood did not define my religion, as its members were blinded by zealotry. But my eyes see everything clearly. Unlike yours."

    OOC: @Endless Sea (Alaki Nuva)

  15. IC: Xani (Atero)

Slave trading was not an easy job, contrary to popular belief. Slaves had to be acquired, kept in check and delivered to customers, which usually required a lot of travel and a lot of coercion. Worse of all, it wasn't the job Xani wanted to do, but it was the only thing that gave her the living standards she deserved.

As such, after a successful trade deal had been completed in Iconox, she figured she had earned a short vacation of sorts. So she took her Baranus chariot and headed to Atero, where Grand Tournament was going to be held. She didn't actually enjoy spectating fighting games that much, but this time of year it was full of folks from all kinds of different tribes and cultures. For a short while, she figured, she could try out her old life and showcase some of her artwork. Who knows, maybe someone would buy something for once, though she doubted it. Or maybe she could sign a trade deal involving slaves instead...

After she arrived in Atero, she left her chariot and Spikit inside the stables near the city gates. She was planning to setup a public display of her finest crafts in one of the busier streets, but first she just wanted to take it easy and take a walk around the city. She hadn't been here in a couple years, so she wondered if anything had changed.

The streets were just as crowded as before, though she noted the lower number of Iron Tribe members. But what really caught her attention was a pair of her fellow Ice Tribe members. She was relieved to see her kin here among all these strangers and walked towards them. As she got closer, she thought she could even recognize one of them. The two appeared to be having a conversation, so she tried to be polite.

"Ahem, sorry to interrupt you two, but..." she said, then looked at the glatorian: "You are... Wreck, right? You're here to represent our Iconox at the upcoming tournament, I presume?"

  16. IC: Oliphko (Onu-Koro)

She followed him inside, stood in awkward silence as he went inside a corridor, then tilted her head in confusion after he returned.

"Uuh, what did you get? A backpack? What's inside it? Food? And where are we going?" Her questions poured out in a torrent.

  17. IC: Sir Dahkapa (Blackrock Canyon)

Dahkapa stood up fully and straightened himself, wiping off the dust from his body armour. He took his time to answer Joskander's question, seeming to focus on calming himself through controlled breathing.

"Is it not obvious?" he finally replied with a tinge of contempt. "Sacrifice means offering something valuable to a deity. The greatest sacrifices are those where you give up something you value yourself. Followers of Ak'rei'an can give up some of their inherent power, such as their elemental abilities or their mask power. Usually this was done to gain control over a resurrected person. It is undisputed proof that Ak'rei'an is awake and can reward his most loyal followers."

His eyes narrowed. "What did you think I meant?"

  18. IC: Sir Dahkapa (Blackrock Canyon)

The tablet slammed right onto his mask, sending him tumbling backwards. As he was completely taken aback by it, he failed to maintain his balance and fell onto the rocky ground.

He lied there for a moment, then slowly pushed himself up. There was an ominuous glow in his eyes as he stared at him.

"Why... why in the name of Ak'rei'an did you do that?" he asked quietly.

    OOC: @Endless Sea (Alaki Nuva)

  19. IC: Oliphko (Onu-Koro)

"Oh, uh, you're inviting me to your home?" she replied and chuckled nervously. No one had done that before, so she wasn't sure how to respond for a while. Eventually, she did blubber out a response. "I uuh, sure, I guess, yeah! Haven't eaten anything in a while..."

She followed him to the Koro, which was illuminated by numerous lightstones. Even though she had gotten used to them after all the time she had spent in the Koro, their glow felt like a cheap replacement for sunlight now that she had seen it again. It made her even more homesick for Po-Wahi than before, as the sky was always clear and bright there.

  20. IC: Oliphko (Onu-Koro Highway)

"Well, I uh, think you're doing a good job being a Turaga so far! And umm... yeah, I suppose you are right. Still in the process of figuring out what to do, hehe... I hope I can also make such choices."

They were getting closer to Onu-Koro, though it was still some distance away.

"You uh, don't have to tell me about those choices, but I wouldn't mind hearing more about your past as a Toa. Maybe I can learn something from your past experiences?"

    OOC: @Geardirector

  21. IC: Sir Dahkapa (Blackrock Canyon)

At first, he didn't seem to react to Joskander's presence. After a brief, awkward silence, he turned around and looked at what Joskander had brought with some barely visible disdain.

"I have no need for it. But you can keep it and even use it as evidence for the Brotherhood's actions, if you wish. I have no ties to them anymore."

He took a deep breath, then slowly let it out. "Joskander, I feel like I have been too secretive. Perhaps it is time I explain what I was looking for, now that the search appears to have been in vain. I wanted to learn the secrets of life and death, which allow the sacred act of resurrection that only Ak'rei'an's priests and highest ranking members know. This way I could prove to you, and to everyone else, that Ak'rei'an's powers, his gracious gifts, are very real. Without this ability, I doubt anyone can be convinced to embrace His light."

"But... I also wanted to acquire the power to resurrect a friend of mine who perished in the battle of Ko-Koro. Perhaps that would have been selfish, yet I had made a promise to him, and I still wish to fulfill it."

He glanced at the ruins, then back at him. "Even though it's unlikely we'll find anything here, I haven't abandoned hope." Usually he appeared completely emotionless, but now all of a sudden his mouth was twisted into an uncanny, almost fanatical smile. "I believe that if I prove my faith in Him, Ak'rei'an will grant me the power of resurrection. All I must do, is provide a worthy enough sacrifice..."

  22. Name: Xani

    Species: Agori

    Gender: Female

    Tribe: Ice

History: In her youth, Xani was a passionate crafter who created many wondrous items out of crystal. Yet much to her frustration, this brought her little wealth or recognition. Things changed when Exsidian was discovered and demand for cheap labour shot up. Shoulders deep in debt, Xani took a risk and entered the slave trade. Soon enough, she proved to be very good at the job, which made her a rich Agori known throughout Iconox. No one really knows how she is able to make such good deals with her trade partners, the Gatherers, and she certainly won't share her secrets with those who failed to appreciate her craftsmanship.

Description: Rather tall for an Agori, if somewhat frail. Her body is mostly white as snow with some spots of dark blue. Strangely, she wears an elaborately crafted crystal mask to cover her face.

Personality: She appreciates the fine arts and is very nimble with her fingers, but looks down upon those who do not share her appreciation of beauty. She generaly distrusts those who come from other tribes (except for her trade partners). While originally she engaged in slave trade out of desperation, she has now fully embraced her new life and feels nothing but contempt for those who seek to take her livelihood away from her.

Equipment: She carries a chisel and a hammer with her, a remnant of her past profession, and a Thornax launcher for self-protection. She also has a satchel with various useful items and plenty of currency.

Weaknesses: She is not a warrior and has no real experience in fighting. She also doesn't really get along with anyone else.

Vehicle: Xani owns an unarmed Baranus V7 chariot which she acquired from the Rock Tribe in exchange for several slaves. It is pulled by a "tame" unnamed Spikit and has a cargo sled attached to it, which is usually used to transport slaves.

"Oh, I don't think I've told you that. Or uh... anyone else, either. I was just... lost in my life at the time, unsure of what my destiny was, so I wandered out into the wilderness of Po-Wahi, trying to understand my purpose through intense meditation... until one day, when I was looking for shelter, I found a cave... unlike other caves, it wasn't empty, but had a Toa stone, wrapped in cloth and placed on a pedestal in front of a forgotten shrine."

"It might've just been a coincidence," she said and shrugged, "but I've always believed that I had found my destiny. Even though I didn't really understand why I should be a Toa. It's been hard for me to adapt to my new life... sometimes I wish I was still a Matoran. Yet I have to follow the path that has been laid out for me, no matter what."

She smiled slightly. "And you've uh, helped with that."
