  1. What's more surprising to me is that they didn't just keep working on this game while incorporating the 2005 story into it to make a 2-year saga game in the same vein as the OG Bionicle Game (the 2001-03 story saga). The video makes it look like it would've been a quality game and giving them an extra year to flesh out everything would've only improved that imo.
  2. Hakura...isn't that a car company? And how did it become a toa?
  3. I liked 1.0's pieces for MoC making (actually, I only bought HF sets for parts to make MoC's) but I didn't like the sets as they were because of the limited mobility. After all the previous Bionicle waves (excluding Stars) that featured the main heroes having great poseability, to revert back to limited articulation was a turn off for me.
  4. It'd be interesting to see for sure. What about Lego Island: Extreme Stunts? I know that could technically fall under the City stuff, but I'm talking about a theme that has actual characters made by lego and a story and a game to accompany it. Maybe it's just nostalgia talking, but the Lego Island games as well as the Rock Raiders games gave me life as a kid (and if I still had a computer that could run these games, I would totally play them in my spare time)
  5. The last non-licensed Pirates sets were in 2015, though there was also a Pirates of the Caribbean set last year. And of course that's not counting 2016's Ninjago sky pirates. In general I think a lot of the general categories LEGO's used before could probably do well again at some point in the future. Like you mention, there's the underground, underwater, and globetrotting adventure genres that LEGO has already revisited in the past decade (Power Miners, Atlantis, Pharaoh's Quest) and might be inclined to revisit again. I'd add spy/secret agent themes to that list, which LEGO first touched on in Alpha Team and later in Agents and Ultra Agents. There's also always the classic evergreen series like Castle, Pirates, and Space. If the Jurassic World franchise burns out at any point Dino could become an option again as well. And LEGO being Danish, I wouldn't put it past them to revisit Vikings at some point. Ultimately it's all just a matter of picking the right theme at the right time. One that I don't really anticipate coming around again anytime soon (excluding the possibility of some Hollywood blockbuster, anyway) is Western, because the Western genre simply hasn't been especially popular with kids in a long time from what I can tell. We even talked in my film class last semester about how the ubiquity it once enjoyed in film and TV has largely been supplanted by the superhero genre. Yeah, I'm honestly not surprised that Western isn't super popular. Vikings would be cool to see again at some point. Remember in about 2000-2003 when they did sports? Like Basketball, Soccer, and Hockey? Do you think they'd do that again? I remember owning the big technic hockey set and I thought it was really cool! If memory serves me correctly, I haven't seen any sets like that since the '03-'04 timeframe. Were they just not very popular or more collector's items?
  6. I completely forgot about Exo-Force! I would love to see another story along those lines (tho that too might be hard to do along side Ninjago). And Greek/Roman or Egyptian Gods would be really cool! Lego already partners with Disney; they could try to do Percy Jackson sets to cover that? Or just do mythology in general. It would be really cool to have a parthenon set. Also (I don't really keep up with the current Lego catalogues these days), how long has it been since we've had pirate sets?
  7. I would say Breakout as well! I thought the sets were very well designed that year and on top of that, I enjoyed the new pieces they introduced that year. I didn't buy many Hero Factory sets, but the majority of the ones I did buy were from the Savage Planet and Breakout waves.
  8. Sup everyone! I'd like to open up discussion on which old lego themes (let's say old is anything before this decade started) do you think could be revamped for today's kids? For example: Without the presence of Indiana Jones, I think a similar theme to Adventurers/Orient Express could do well in today's audience. I also think a Rock Raiders or Power Miner's theme would do also do well. What are ya'll's thoughts? Any other ideas ya'll have? Agree or disagree with my ideas?
  9. I love how you used the Hewkii mask as the shell! Very creative and clever!
  10. 3.7/5. There is a beauty to this song, but I just find the first 3 minutes to be a huge drag before it blossoms into beauty around the 4 minute mark.
  11. How are those albums? I've heard a few of Draconian's songs, but haven't ever given much thought into picking up an album from them. Also I picked up Strife by Loch Vostok and Art of Metal by Hysterica
  12. I have fond memories of the game. I'm not a huge gamer honestly, but I enjoyed Bionicle Heroes. Heroes had nothing to do with the story, but it was cool how it incorporated basically all the old villains/titans into a single game. I also thought the game was like they took the great things about Lego Star Wars and applied it to Bionicle (great things being humor, fun, and cool maps/scenery). The collectibles in the game as well make it more fun to replay. I want to say I got 85% of the way through or something like that? It was easier for me to acquire most of the collectibles in this game as opposed to Lego Star Wars (which I'm at around 70% and can't seem to progress any further). All in all, I'd give Bionicle Heros a quality/10 (quality out of 10) rating
  13. As a drummer, I would love to hear something very rhythmic. Whether it's got hints of techno/electronica or not, I want the drums to do a lot of the talking, especially if it's about the Le-Wahi or jungle aspects. As for the other 5 elements, I can't think of anything specific at the moment, but definitely some drum-driven tunes for the jungle toa in the story or commercials
  14. This is so dope! I love the way this sounds! Ideally I would've tried to make it sound a little more like Nightwish by keeping some of the rock elements and mixing the orchestra with it rather than just one or the other. But again, this version is also really good.
  15. Wow! There's something extremely fitting about this! The vid honestly mixes great dramatic music to perfectly describe what's going on in the video! From a storytelling standpoint, it's amazing! From a marketing standpoint, however, it isn't infectious. For example, say a kid likes Dora the Explorer. You want the music to be so catchy that the kid goes to the store with "Do da Dora" stuck in his/her head. I applaud the creativity for your video, however! I really liked how well it mixed with the older Bionicle ads
  16. I think Cryoshell's music was good for the time, specifically Gravity Hurts, but I do see the point/argument of growth and improvement. I LOVE metal music and I can assume because the use of metal music signifies catering more marketing on the storyline and therefore targeting more of the older fans than the promotion of the toys? Breaking Benjamin would be a good fit depending upon the story setting. I do think it would be clever to throw in some musical easter eggs like parts of Furst's score from the original movies as instrumental sections in a rock arrangement or a guitar solo or something. I also think on top of mixing some of the older music into new rock arrangements, it'd be cool to arrange some tracks with a full orchestra and rock group. And like the other post, I'm getting the vibe that the music is more focused on targeting the story followers than the younger ones who'll buy the toys?
  17. I feel old...I just ordered my class ring for my college. It feels like just yesterday that I was a freshman!

  18. Bionicle was a huge part of my life from '04 til '07/8. I followed a little bit of the stories, but the biggest thing that appealed to me is that I could use the characters in the sets and create my own characters to go along with the characters and make my own stories. For example, you have your basic action figures for things like Star Wars or Jurassic Park or *insert other massive movie franchise(s) here* but even if you wanted to create your own stories with those characters, you were limited to those characters or pretending to be one of those characters or whatever: basically you were stuck with the mold of the characters' likeness and had to imagine yourself in there if you were playing with the action figures... Bionicle were buildable action figures! You could build the sets or ignore the instructions entirely and make up your own characters or mix the 2 together! I had so much fun creating my own matoran, toa, villains to interact with the Toa Mata and/or Nuva and make up my own stories involving both my own characters and the official ones. The concept of Bionicle was just so brilliant! So versatile! You had action figures, you had creativity, you had imagination, you had no limits, and that's what I love about it. I love that so many people had their own stories to tell with these characters (or their own) and different people had so many different ideas and interpretations about the official characters. TL/DR I loved the stories we got with the franchise, but that pales in comparison to the fact that anyone could create their own story and express their imagination and ACTUALLY show it to others! I'll always love the idea/concept of Bionicle
  19. Hello! I realize I don't post much on this site anymore, I've been busy with college and such, but I've been poking around every once in a while to check in. So it's 2018 everyone! 12 years ago, Bionicle released the Inika sets and they were marketed with the help of popular music in the form of "Move Along" by The All-American Rejects. Looking past gen 1 or gen 2 or whatever gen, if you were releasing a Bionicle wave in 2018 and you were in charge of the marketing for it, would you use a modern artist to help promote the sets? Would you hire a composer to just make some original background music for the commercials? What style/direction would you take the music for said marketing wave? And while we're at it, would you try to capture the atmosphere of the storyline in the song or just try to get something catchy to your target audience to push sales? There are no right or wrong answers. I'm asking to a) just get some good ole' discussion going and b) I'm studying business at my university (and I'm a musician) and using music for marketing interests me quite a bit.
  20. I got an 18 inch floor tom for my drum set. So now I officially have a Phil Collins style set *Note: pic is of Phil's set, not mine: https://www.pearldrummersforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=167222&stc=1&d=1128717917
  21. I thought it was just an accident that my Nuju Metru canister had glitter on it. None of my other Metru canisters have glitter. Do toa other than Nuju have the glitter for some of ya'll or is it consistently just Nuju?
  22. I mean we've had a lot of pieces recolored for new sets throughout Bionicle, like the blue Whenua mask in the Kharzanhi set or the Metru colored Rhaakshi masks in the Rahaga or Dume's mask in Silver for Toa Norik. But as far as recoloring an entire set, I think it would really cool to see a dark Toa Nuva Takanuva: as in the gold parts are gunmetal grey and the white parts are all black, or something to that extent.
