  1. Almost exactly a year (and two weeks) after writing a blog entry about the 2018 California fires, more are breaking out and the dry October winds we tend to get are certainly not helping . There are probably a few officially labelled fires, but the two I'm reading about are the Kincade Fire, because its closest to me, and the Tick Fire near Los Angeles. Unlike last year's fires which came too close to comfort, we are at no risk from the Kincade fire. Unfortunately many people (39-50,000 depending on which news outlet you read) are at risk and being asked to evacuate. It's completely heart wrenching that this is happening again, and absolutely frustrating when the source of both fires are take into account. I don't really want to point figures, that's a job for someone else and I have no doubt it'll happen down the line, I just hope that everyone is able to evacuate safely. Also want to give another huge shout out and thank you to the thousands of fire fighters (and inmates, according to the BBC) across the state working to contain the fires. With tonight's wind gusts expected to be up to 70 mph they have a major uphill battle, but we're all rooting for them. These brave heroes don't get enough credit, and no thank you is big enough for all the work that they're doing. My thoughts and prayers are with them and the victims.
  2. Being sick is the worst. Here's hoping you have a swift recovery!
  3. Oh, not much. Still sending my resume out into black holes and getting rejections from the few who manage to glimpse it. But, hey, I'm still alive too so I guess that's a good thing. Waiting for your next rant essay in the meantime.
  4. Another year, another LEGO Millennium Falcon. I like the colors on the AT-ST and Y-Wing, though aside from that nothing too appealing about any of these for me. I hope they find their audience, though!
  5. Pirates Bay looks fun and Machu Picchu looks like a nice little display piece. I wouldn't mind if either of those won.
  6. Only thing I can think of is that it has something to do with that minifigure game app that's coming out. Other than that.... I got nothing. Curious to see what it's for.
  7. It's a good question. I think, though, that more important than the animation style is the character design. Without having seen the fourth Direct-to-DVD movie, I do think the character designs used in Miramax films make sense from the standpoint of having expressive characters, but also looked a little too organic for characters that can literally build themselves. Maybe something between the Miramax and set accurate style would work for a 3D CGI animated film. An animated movie inspired by the art from the first few comics could be a fun experiment, though.
  8. This set is adorable. The chimney/fireplace is a bit weird, but I can look past that. Would love to have this on display for the holidays.
  9. Back and with a new look! I'm sure the bugs will be sorted out eventually, but it's just good to have the forums back for now.
  10. I'm glad the site is back, but I am hoping there are some eventual cosmetic changes. Maybe it's a case of "I don't like new things," but some of it is rather hard on the eyes.
  11. Weirdly enough, I prefer Bo Peep's look from the first two. She looked like a ceramic doll in those, which I assume she's supposed to be. In this one, not so much. I'm not sure how I feel about the movie. Still forming an opinion.
  12. Yeah I don't know about this. Dying prematurely didn't help Carrie Fisher, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Anton Yelchin, or Paul Walker receive acclaim for their final roles. Ledger received acclaim because he took an iconic villain role (already made famous on film by Jack Nicholson no less) and made it entirely his own. He was terrifying, mesmerizing, very darkly comedic, everything that role needed to be for that movie. In my opinion, he did a fantastic job. Well deserving of the the praise he got for the role and I'm not just saying that because he died. (Or because I liked the movie, because outside of his performance I think its very problematic.) It's fine that his take on the Joker didn't do it for you. But to say people only laud his performance because he died, well, I just don't see how you can get to that conclusion. I think it legitimately struck a strong chord with many viewers, myself included.
  13. Me too. We always remove our shoes when we visited someone, and at home got yelled at if our shoes got anywhere near the carpet. In the circles I grew up in, seeing someone wearing shoes indoors was rare and frowned upon (and still is). But I've also noticed that some home owners will, out of deference to their guest, permit them to leave shoes on regardless of how they feel about shoes indoors. This, and the amount of times I've cringed seeing someone wear shoes indoors, tells me that despite my circles, we tend not to think about it too much here. A distinction I've noticed, and I can't speak for everyone or all cultures here, is that we tend to leave our shoes on if we enter temporary shelters like hotels or classrooms. Or if we have an apartment where our entrance is on the inside of a structure, we wear our shoes inside until we get to our door. But when I went to Japan, the rules where very clear: you leave your shoes at the threshold to the outside. Doesn't matter if it takes you ten minutes to walk up the stairs to your hotel/apartment, you're doing it in your socks or indoor shoes. In America it's unheard of to take your shoes off at that point. I don't think our experiences in American homes detract from anything TMD is saying, though. It's not a detail you'd normally see included in American movies (at least I can't think of any examples). The significance is obvious. (Enjoyed that other essay you linked to, somehow missed it when/if you posted it here. Horrible story about casting, though, and glad the author stuck to her guns.)
  14. I see nothing to correct here. This is the only correct order. Looking forward to this one. I'm assuming they'll change up the levels for episodes 1-7, but I hope they do so without adding gameplay elements that hurt later TT LEGO video games. I'm thinking specifically about the running and other 'on track' levels seen in LEGO Lord of the Rings and LEGO Jurassic World. Always the worst part of these games.
  15. This is actually a bit disappointing. I get that the gate is the most iconic (non dinosaur) image for the franchise, but it's just not very interesting as a structure and has no play value. I appreciate that they built vignettes into the back, but they're so tiny. And what's the point of having a toilet in the vignette if there's no Gennaro minifigure? Or maybe that's the joke and I'm just being a stick in the mud. The brick built T-Rex looks great, though.
  16. I can identify with the man on the treadmill chasing after the pizza.
  17. Is it too pessimistic to assume this will eventually go the way of Universe, Minifigures Online, and Dimensions? Honestly, outside of the nostalgia of seeing older Minifigures and sets in the game, the play itself doesn't sound very interesting.
  18. Vorahk1Panrahk2

    amazing...

This feeling. I know it well. I wish you all the luck, especially if you are venturing out to learn programming. I've tried, one of things that would certainly help me, but I just can't wrap my head around it.
  19. Very bizarre show choice to license for a LEGO product, but can't deny the impressive build.
  20. I don't recall a BIONICLE (or LEGO piece for that matter) ever drawing blood, but I always found the original Onua's claws to be on the "dangerous" side, particularly since they naturally rest in a 'pointy part up' position. Don't want to step or fall on those. Never did get Krika but I'll have to trust the replies here that its head would also be an unpleasant piece to step on.
  21. Wouldn't quite call the dementor set Battle Pack levels of value, but a nice sparkly blue transparent stag, two dementors, and Sirius Black for $20? I'll take that. The scenery looks very well built, too. Fun looking desktop set.
  22. Popping in to recommend that you sit yourself down and watch Blade Runner 2049. Very worthy sequel to the original, I'd say its better. Also, man, the Alien timeline is a mess if we try to make AVP fit in there. For the sake of a sensible continuity I think they should be ignored.
  23. If it's BIONICLE related I'm all on board. Whatever it is bring it on.
  24. Well, makes my custom Anna print design I made obsolete. Not interested in any of these outside Anna and Elsa, and hoping if there is a third wave it will include Rapunzel and Flynn. The two from Nightmare Before Christmas look fantastic, though.
  25. I thought the original model was unappealing in its simplicity, so I'm glad the designers made such drastic changes. In all ways an improvement. Probably won't pick it up but its very cute.
