  1. I definitely agree with you on the collectables. The fact that 2004 onward did not have collectable mask variants was disappointing (though I discovered recently that the Karzahni set has a dark blue variant of Toa Whenua's Ruru). I never bought mask packs when I was younger and they were actually in production, but if they brought them back now I'd buy them frequently. The random chance involved makes people buy more, like what's happened with the random minifig bags.
  2. Yeah, I'm kinda torn about it. I added black and purple gears for the purple guy, so the function looks a little less gaudy. The model is also overall more stable with 4 legs and the gear function has a fair amount of friction so the legs don't wobble very much. Thanks! That's flattering to say this would fit in MNOLG. No problem, though I'm going to have to update those instructions eventually to show the gear function. My collection is starting to grow... can you tell I'm trying to collect Pakari colors now? Heh. The teal one is in retirement until I buy more technic and CCBS pieces. Until then, Kongu gets to keep his mask UPDATE: I've revamped the original post and created some instructions (not embeddable due to high image resolution) for the updated build.
  3. After some procrastination, I've made a ton of changes to my design. Kinda regret making detailed instructions now that they're mostly obsolete... Anyways, the purple one has been the one I've been experimenting with. First off, made the design quadrupedal so it had better balance. Then, I realized I should probably try to make a gear function. After about 2-3 hours of experimenting with different designs, I realized there would be no way to have an internal gearbox while still having a way to attach the head piece for the "shell"/kanohi on the back. So, I decided on an external gearbox system. Definitely a little bulky, and I don't have any gears that properly fit the color scheme, but it's a start. After putting the rest of the build back together, I definitely think it was an upgrade. (The thornax launcher is also a fun little addition ) The gear function is nothing too special. All the limbs move in unison, though there is no lever/gear that can be turned to move the legs remotely. Here's a GIF of the function, I couldn't get the filesize low enough to embed it so I had to link it externally. Thanks to everybody for their comments and criticisms, I've been having a lot of fun getting back into building MOCs. The problem-solving aspect is so satisfying; I was ecstatic when I discovered a way to add a gear function after much trial and error. Next order of business: Find gears that fit the color scheme better, buy more purple and teal technic pin connector blocks (the "mata hand" pieces) so the back legs have a more consistent look and so I can make the upgrades to the teal Rahi too, and buy more technic ball joints.
  4. BZP is still always going to be better than Reddit in my mind. I have been part of this community for about 10 years (lost my old account because I was very young when I made it and didn't remember my password or have a recovery email), and it is definitely the most inclusive Bionicle Fan community. I am a member of Bionicle Maskposting on Facebook as well as /r/BionicleLego, and the people there are generally just not as nice. I posted a MOC on here and the people who replied were all very friendly and gave great advice/insight. Can't really say the same about Facebook or Reddit communities.
  5. I think that may be the only Bionicle reference in Lego Worlds, but does anybody remember the Bionicle cameo in Lego Backlot? Takua was in it, I forget if anybody else was. Kinda ironic actually, as it showed Takua as a Tohunga but Takua didn't get an official release until the 2003 Matoran Takua.
  6. I always felt like this game had a lot of cut content. The fact that the Toa Mata are featured so prominently yet are not fully playable makes it seem like this game had more to it that what we got. Would have loved to see the Toa fight the Bohrok swarms, the Manas, Cahdok and Gahdok, etc. Playing as Akimai or Wairuha would have been pretty sweet. Oh well, at least there is always the potential for fan games.
  7. Thank you! I agree, this set could totally be some sort of polybag set. And I had some fun making those instructions, I was screwing around with Stud.io and tried to figure out how to use the feature that lets you sort a model by different building steps. So much more intuitive than the auto-generated instructions from Lego Digital Designer. Heh, thanks but the gears are just decorative. I want to try adding a gear function for moving the arms/legs with the worm gear but I have to wait for my BrickLink order to arrive since I have a limited pool of parts to use right now. Might try to make something using those fancy friction gears from Bionicle G2. Either way, stay tuned for some sort of redesign. And once my parts arrive, I'll be able to build a purple one and a mata red one. Kinda want to add a function to the tail, maybe a thornax launcher in place of the stinger... Haha I wish they had made more teal masks... Edit: One of my orders arrived today! Not enough parts to build a second one, but enough to modify the one I've made to make it purple. As you probably can see, I only got 2 Technic connector blocks in purple and didn't have one to use for the stinger tail, so when my other orders arrive the stinger will be replaced with a purple hand piece with a black thornax launcher c:
  8. Thanks so much! I was really trying to capture that 2001 aesthetic where the Rahi use a lot of technic for the bodies. I ordered some parts on BrickLink earlier today to make a purple version as a counterpart, as 2001 purple is also another great color that isn't used anymore.
  9. The Fikou Scorpion is a Rahi build I came up with while improvising on the simplistic Fikou build. In the end, I ended up with a four-legged Rahi with a Thornax launcher tail and gear function. This build consists of 92 parts (When including Kanohi and ammo), has a few functions (Over a dozen points of articulation, gear function, Thornax launcher), and uses a mix of G1 Bionicle, Technic, and CCBS pieces. I plan on slowly creating a small team of these MOCs in various colors. And thanks to the power of Stud.IO and LPub, I have figured out how to make my own instructions that actually resemble official Lego instructions! The only issue is that CCBS bones and most Bionicle-specific pieces don't show up, so I indicated the missing parts on the first page of instructions. Here's a link to the instructions, as the image resolution is a bit too big to embed. And here's a GIF demonstrating the gear function Thanks for taking a look at my MOC and I appreciate any questions, comments, and criticisms in the thread. Old version of this post:
