I can't really improvise because I don't have a memory of what each note sounds like.

Whatever's catchy for the most part. Money, Led Zeppelin's How Many More Times and Achilles' Last Stand, Daft Punk's Something About Us and The Police's Can't Stand Losing You are frequent ones that I play, but I'm looking into just playing songs that purely establish rhythm.

Well, the self titled sounds more like Pink Floyd than anything else Gilmour released. I don't think AMLoR was Pink Floyd-esque only because of the solos. It had a lot of elements that they had in the previous decade, but they were revised to sound much more digital and 80s-like.

It's not like The Final Cut sounded like a Pink Floyd album. AMLoR sounded closer to being Pink Floyd than TFC. TFC was very clearly a Roger Waters solo album just under the PF name (kinda like AMLoR too)

I don't like The Final Cut all that much. Waters' voice was souring up through The Wall and The Final Cut was terrible vocally. Lyrics cannot redeem that for me, and the music was not all that good. Amused to Death is a good solo album of his that feels very much in the vein of Not Now John.

Obviously that song destroys, but as much as their space rock stuff is good, the sound of Animals as well as the lyrics of Dogs really hook me in. The 4 and 8 track versions of Pigs on the Wing is very good with the guitar solo to bridge the two parts.
