I'd like to think I make sufficient an impact on the forums that people would notice that I'd gone on holiday for a week, but that's probably wishful thinking.

Anyway, I've been in Cornwall for the week. Most of it was beaches, playing pool, and having to drive far too much. The one day I'll cover in slight detail is Friday, or at least I think it was Friday. Me and my friends went to Truro. While walking about the shopping area, my eyes were drawn to Hawkin's Bazaar, mainly as I thought the chain had gone bust. It's certainly closed down where I live. Anyway, inside the store, I saw a Lego-like display. What it actually was, was this. Sorry for the not particularly brilliant pictures, my friends wanted to leave the shop so I was in a hurry, and I was only using my phone as well. The sets themselves resemble the Lego system, but thats not unheard of. What was fascinating is taking a closer look at those cans on the top shelf. Here you can see a very close resemblance to the Visorak canisters. VERY close. They're £5 each, so they're cheaper than Lego. The set only bares a very vague similarity to Bionicle though. There's a couple more pics here.

The other highlight of Truro was seeing this place.

I started making a revamp of Sidorak maybe a month ago, then I got bored and finished him off rather lazily, then took one photo before my rubbish camera's batteries ran out. I had better uses for the parts, so I took Sidorak apart before I could take any more pictures. Didn't think a single picture was topic worthy, so here it is in blogness.

Anyone know where I can find the font with the correct symbols used for numbers? I found a version on BZP, but that doesn't have the correct symbols for numbers.

In preparation for seeing Iron Man 3 on Sunday, I thought it best to finally get around to watching the Avengers.

    Brain has exploded.

In other news, I'm getting a new car on Tuesday.

Today I bade farewell to the car I learnt to drive in. Its been a firm friend, naturally there were good times, bad times, and of course, the time it took me ten minutes to get the bonnet open.

So if on peoples worldly travels, you see a little blue Ford Ka registered KG03 OGN, say 'Hi' from Taipu1. Although the likely hood is that it will be scrapped.

However, I have a bright future ahead of me with a Volkswagen Up!!

I've been toying with the idea of MOCing Akamai and Wairuha, but with a less stunted appearance.

But with that: What colour schemes do you think would be good? My personal thoughts were Gold and Red for Akamai, and Silver and green for Wairuha, but that perhaps doesn't give much credit to the other 4 Toa involved in the process of forming Kaita.

Anyone else ever own the epic Nike trainers from back in '03 with the Nuva masks on the toes? I miss those...

So I made this enhanced version of my avatar, but I don't want to use it, because there is something wrong with it. Can people critique it, so I can work out what is wrong with it? Because something is wrong with it, I just don't know what it is.

Working on a new epic, and taking a different style to normal. Less crash/bang action, more sort of political, maybe? Probably not the right word. Action with intermediate spells of sophisticated dialogue regarding the reasons for the action. Or something like that.

Just made the payment on my largest bricklink order to date. It includes a metallic gold Kaukau and a copper mask of victory. I've been meaning to get one of those ever since I got full proto. Also include are a lot of epic technic pieces of varying levels of awesomeness.

In other news, I believe my premier membership is going to expire some time in the very near future. I'd like to post pictures of the new parts, but I may not be able to if I lose control of this Blog. Will work on renewing that at some point...

Measuring speed of sound by the doppler effect. The first part involved a stopwatch, a sound recording, and my folding bike.

The second less conventional, and less legal on multiple levels part was using my mates Fiat 500 down the road at the front of the school.

The first run was hilarious, my mate drove down the road at 45mph (30 limit ), while I stick my head out of the window playing the harmonica (Well, one continuous note). We later did it again, this time with the car horn instead of the harmonica.

The investigation was half successful, the bike got a value for the speed of sound of 386m/s, only 40-50ish out. The car was not as successful, the sound recording didn't work that well, and somehow the pitch of the horn went up once the car had passed, when it should have gone down. It sounded right on the recording, there was just too much interference to find a good value for the frequency.

    Brilliant lesson though.

New I shoulda preordered AC3, I was like a day late for getting that DLC. Don't see why you can't just have the outfit anyway, you wear it on the Aquila, why not outside of naval missions?

I have now got it, and it's pretty good. I haven't tried online play yet though. Trying to get to grips with the controls, which seem to be slightly different to AC1 and 2 (I don't have Brotherhood or Revelations). Loving the tree climbing though. Tomahawk has so far not come across as overly awesome, although I haven't used it that much.

I've decided to start posting top fives of totally random things. I wanted to start off by saying these are my personal thoughts, you are welcome to disagree, and I would be more than happy to see your own rankings of things. Also, some of these may not even be based off experience, but stuff I've seen on the internet, or magazines or whatever. First hand experience may affect the order of things, but who knows,

Anyway, First off, I decided to go Lego Star Wars. I wanted to start familiar ground (Lego) but not overly familiar (Bionicle).

Taipu1's Top 5 Lego Star Wars sets

    #5 - 10179 UCS Millenium Falcon
I remember the first time I saw this, it came up in the news on BZP. I think when it came out (correct me if I'm wrong) it was the biggest and most expensive lego set ever, and my jaw dropped. The detail is stunning, the size is incredible and the price is extortionate. Unfortunately I've never had the finances to own a set such as this. I envy those who do.

    #4 - 7256 Jedi Starfighter & Vulture Droid
You're probably thinking that this is not a particularly stand out set, but as one of only 6 lego star wars sets I own, it gains a lot in rank. The fact it had two ships appealed a lot to me back when I was 12, and as a result I accidently threw it across the room when playing, attempting to simulate the jump to lightspeed. My favourite of the two within was always the Jedi Star fighter, I think it was good details for its size, and I loved the fact the wings were adjustable. Up in my top five, because it offers a lot of fun.

    #3 - 9492 TIE Fighter
I own 7263 TIE fighter, and looking at this thing, it is such an improvement. The change of blue to the actual colour is a big step in visual accuracy, and it looks so much more chunky and smooth. It looks like a replica, not a lego model.

    #2 - 10030 UCS Imperial Star Destroyer
This seemed to appear in every Lego catalogue I ever owned, and I would lust after it. It's massive, complex, and the kind of thing I would love to build. Its most deserving of a UCS model, and most suits it. The non UCS version I think looks pathetic, and I was disappointed that this, as my #2 Lego Star Wars set, never got an appearance in the Lego Star Wars video game, instead being replaced by the smaller version, and the mini version. Criminal frankly, although I can see it could be difficult to fit this thing in a video game.

    #1 - 6209 Slave I (2nd edition)
Possibly unfairly at number 1 because I own the set, but outside of Bionicle, it is the best Lego set I own, hands down. I loved all the little storage holes and hidden guns, and the fact it came with a Boba Fett minifig. Sure, the 3rd edition might be more accurate, but I own this, and prefer everything about it. I don't like the look of the new Fett minifig, it's become too true to detail. This set is the perfect bridge between Lego and Star Wars. Brilliant.

Straight off, once again saying these are all games I own. I don't feel I can judge any game I don't own. An interesting selection none the less I think.

    Taipu1's Top 5 PS2 Games

#5 - Simpsons Hit and Run
At number 5 is probably one of the most popular PS2 games ever. I don't know anyone who owned a PS2, and didn't have hit and run. It was the first game I ever played on PS2 as well, way before I owned a PS2 myself. The appeal for me is being able to see a bit more of the world the Simpsons live in, I do like free roam games.

    #4 - Crazy Taxi
Never really known how well known this game is, I came across it when we stayed in a holiday cottage with a PS2 (Again before I had a PS2) and my whole family loved it. I liked the freedom you had on the map, the fact you could just drive down a set of stairs and into a subway station, onto the rail track, and then off down the tunnels. Also loved the fact that no matter how horrific a crash you had, the car was never harmed any way. Oh and you could drive into the ocean and out into the harbour, where for some reason there were people trying to pick up a Taxi underwater! A really quirky game, definitely.

    #3 - Star Wars Battlefront
I owned this after I got Star Wars Battlefront 2, and I was amazed at some of the features that were dropped for the sequel. Prone, maps like Rhen Var and Bespin, Tanks in Mos Eisley, seemingly invincible, but stupid, Jedi. That last one may have been a good thing to change, but overall my second favourite shooter of all time

    #2 - TOCA Race Driver 3
This was the last PS2 game I bought, must have been only a year before I got my Xbox 360, and could get more recent games. That said, TOCA race driver offered a lot as a driving simulation. I often compare it to Forza 3 and 4 which I have on Xbox, and it has a lot of advantages over it. The diversity in racing genres for a start, Forza offers only track driving in enclosed wheel cars. TOCA had open wheel, off road, and even lawnmower racing. My personal favourite from it was the Ariel Atom, which I would spend hours lapping with my racing wheel. The atom is definitely something lacking from Forza, and why I still occassionally break out the PS2.

#1 - Star Wars Battlefront II
Did I make it too obvious earlier? Best game ever. If I could only have one video game for the rest of my life, it would be SWBFII. I play Call of Duty more these days, but that stresses me out a bit sometimes, there's no pressure to do well in Battlefront II, and when I play it, I never get angry or stressed out. I play, I enjoy and I win. Now where's Number 3?

This is one of the most nostalgic images of my childhood. In August/September of 2005 I went to Legoland Windsor. I saw the Tower of Toa in the Big Shop, and convinced my parents to buy it for me for my birthday. Being cruel parents, they agreed to but I wasn't allowed to have it until my birthday. So they hid it in their bedroom. I managed to find it, it was on top of the wardrobe. Being only 10 at the time, I could reach it, but it was tantalisingly close to being in reach.

11 October, I got my results for the 11+ examinations. I had got 139/141, which was good. Being as how I had therefore got into the school I wanted to (Conveniently its a minutes walk from my house) I cryed. And then my mum said because I had done so well that I could have Tower of Toa early.

Needless to say, in my eyes at the time it was the best set in the known universe, and I have very fond memories of it. I also got the Visorak Battle ram for my birthday, which added to the sheer awesome factor.

Wasn't expecting this to come up at all, but I was clearing out the garage this weekend and came across a certain artefact that I had "chucked out" years ago. It's a box that had my mums yoga equipment in it, and in 2003-2004 ish, I drew stuff on it to make it look like an Ussanui. Okay it looks nothing like an Ussanui at all, but it was a surprise to see the thing again after it had languished in my room for years and then been thrown out. The rectangle cut in the top used to have a flap on it, where you would put imaginary Kraata, or something like that. Then I could fit (Hard to believe now) in that gap at the back, and the world was Mangaia!
