  1. Mythological Being of the Day: Sharur

    1. The Dark Chronicler

      The Dark Chronicler

Sharur is a powerful intelligent mace used by the Sumerian war god Ninurta, though it may be in fact using him instead. Sharur has the power to communicate and move on its own through the air, along with communicating with its wielder even over a distance. Sharur helps Ninurta by providing him both information and support in combat, allowing him to defeat the nearly indestructible demon rock Asag, who was leading a rebellion of plants and stones. using Ninurta's own pride as a tool, Sharu...

      The Dark Chronicler

Sharur convinced him to fight the monstrous dragon Kur, and in doing so caused the primeval waters that the ancient Kur held back to polute and flood the land. Ninurta managed to fix the flooding, but it seems Sharur did not help him. Sharur could also shapeshift into a winged lion.

Well... that's kind of neat. I mean the god sounds like a massive jerk, but neat little story. I'll actually have to google the Adaman Islands, since I have no clue where they are at.

    3. The Dark Chronicler

      The Dark Chronicler

Well, there is another story that goes before it, in which Pulunga created the first man who was good, and then the first man's son lead the people to ignore Pulunga and his rules even though he was literally living with them at the time. So it's still jerk-like, but humanity wasn't the best in the situation either.

The Adaman islands are really unusual in that they have a huge diversity of myths among them for such a small area, also unusual is that a lot of them don...

      The Dark Chronicler

don't have comparable stories among the other islands. It seems like most of them developed their myths separate from the others, creating a mythological treasure trove. The sad part is how little has been recorded.

  3. Mythological Being of the Day: The Tlaloque: I'm Really Bad at Getting These Done Edition

    1. The Dark Chronicler

      The Dark Chronicler

The Tlaloque are the four sons of the Aztec rain and water god Tlaloc. They carried water in jugs which they used to produce rain, with one being assigned to each direction and each the god one of the four types of maize. Opochtli, the Northern Tlaloque, was the god of fisherman and the inventor of fishing equipment along with being the god of white maize. He was usually shown as being pitch black, wearing only a headdress. Nappatecuhtli, the Eastern Tlaloque, was the god of the origination p...

      The Dark Chronicler

Nappatecuhtli, the Eastern Tlaloque, was the god of the origination point of rivers and streams along with red maize. He was said to have invented the bed roll, or 'petlatl'. Tomiyauhtecuhtli, the Southern Tlaloque, was the god water grasses along with black maize. Yauhqueme,The Western Tlaloque, was the god of a wide range of water plants along with yellow maize.

  4. I just realized that all of my BZPRPG characters except for Kirgon are stuck... I guess it's Kirgon Time.

  5. Mythological Being of the Day: Amaroq

    1. The Dark Chronicler

      The Dark Chronicler

Amaraoq is a wolf (or wolves) of varying size from Inuit mythology. They are figures of diverse acts, eating humans but at the same time helping them. Sometimes they act as guides and teachers, other times as vicious monsters. Usually stories have them living and hunting alone, though sometimes pups are included in the tale, being taken care of by a parent.

  6. Mythological Being of the Day: Whiro - Too busy lately edition

    1. The Dark Chronicler

      The Dark Chronicler

Sorry bout the lateness! Whiro is te Maori god of darkness, the underworld, and thieves. He's pretty unusual in that there doesn't seem to be any stories of him doing anything good. His main stories involve thievery, and in one case tricking people into a basket to eat them. He was associated with the highly unusual Tautara. He was thought to be leader of a large group of demons, and was driving out of heaven and underground in battle. He and his underlings are thought to cause le...

      The Dark Chronicler

He and his underlings are thought to cause leprosy. it is thought that the uncremated dead will be pulled down into the earth by Whiro, who will consume them. It is entirely possible that Christianity had influenced the story before it was recorded.

Interesting. I enjoy how back in those time eras there was a god for everything.

I do as well, and when you find an occasional one with a unique area of coverage, it tends to stick out. As far as I can find, Kirnis is the only recorded god of cherries.

I meant status updates like this one, but I wasn't sure if I should because a daily status update from me on all of my friends might get annoying.

    3. Voxumo

      Voxumo

Eh, I think as long as the status update is interesting instead of just random spam, it would be cool... at least in my opinion

Oh certainly, I'd try to pick out those with interesting stories.

  9. Hubert. I just realized you have the highest post count of anyone on BZPower. That is awesome!

It's like some sort of majestic bird diving over a glittering waterfall as the Olympic judges applaud.

To be honest, it probably isn't something you need to worry about. Only mythology buffs with an interest in linguistics will probably complain, and that's not a very large group. XD

And my history on Aztecs is very poor, so it shouldn't come up... Although I do study birds, and that is a type of bird as well.

  11. Why is it more fun to write someone losing a fight than it is to write a person winning one?

      The Dark Chronicler

True, but I'm just as prone to characters losing without dying as well, such as my RPG character Drome.

    3. Ghidora131

      Ghidora131

I think it's because you can learn so much more from losing than winning. If you beat everyone you saw, you wouldn't learn much.

    4. The Dark Chronicler

      The Dark Chronicler

That's a really good way to point it. if you win, then you don't need to change anything, while a defeat is a wake-up call for the character.

      .... Nobody will get this.

      I mixed 'Tzitzimime' with 'meh'.

To the Aztec, Tzitzimime are star goddesses, also of fertility, that will kill the sun eventually and then devour and destroy everything on earth, ending the fifth sun.

  18. Trying to think of appropriate apocalyptic back-stories for multiple planets for a story I'm working on.
