  1. Yep. I've enjoyed some of Catullus's poems because they seem pretty unfiltered, and they go against the stereotype that Latin's just a language of stuffy speeches and what have you. Also I only read a small excerpt, but Juvenal's Satires seem entertaining. How about you?
  2. Hi BZPower. Talk here about the classics--ancient Greek and Latin, ancient Mediterranean culture, or what have you. I'm curious to see how many BZPers are interested in this sort of thing. Discuss!
  3. Fantastic. We'll work on implementing this on BS01. Thank you so much! There are archive.org backups of the entire thread, but BS01 still needs to replace the old LEGO.com links with archive.org links.
  4. For those interested, some members of the TTV boards have downloaded or screenshotted the Chat with Greg Farshtey topic and should be uploading their copies soon, see here. I'm also running a script that's backing up every page of Chat with Greg Farshtey to archive.org--it should finish within the next few hours.
  5. I have the same questions. Anyone have answers please? Metru Nui OnLine (MeNOL) is a fanmade game by -Takua- and Tula. It's like MNOG2 but takes place in Metru Nui before the Great Cataclysm. Here's the link.
  6. To download just this Okoto font (okoto2016): visit the okoto2016 directory, click the font file you want to download (the TTF is a good bet), then click "View Raw." To download this and three more Bionicle fonts (metrumatoran, voyamatoran, okoto2016, okoto [outdated]): visit the latest release and choose your preferred download link. Credit goes to jed1ndy for actually creating the glyphs. The original glyphs are here: jed1ndy's Complete Okoto Alphabet + Okatan Symbols. I just made the glyphs into vectors and used Fontello to make them into a font. Also in the newest version I changed the C/c glyph a bit and added the creature symbol as the 8 glyph. The okoto2016 font has glyphs for a-z, A-Z, 1-9, and [space]. Numbers correspond to the following symbols: 1: Lewa 2: Pohatu 3: Gali 4: Tahu 5: Onua 6: Kopaka 7: Elemental Creatures 8: Umarak 9: Ekimu Thanks for looking!
  7. Ooh I like this. Cool concept for a story, and you've done an excellent job capturing that old school vibe (especially during the story of Yi) even though the actual narrative is about later material. Please do write more!
  8. Nice find! Obviously TLG did make a bigger version at some point. I'll upload this to BS01 later.
  9. Unfortunately I doubt a larger version of that image exists. The PNG on BS01 was saved directly from the original Photoshop file on one of the style guide CDs. The Photoshop file has the same dimensions as that PNG, so it's very likely the image doesn't get any bigger. You could add some black around the edges of the image to fill up your screen though. (By the way all those style guide files are available on the BioMedia Project, check them out. There's some great stuff there--all sorts of promo images from 2001 through 2003 with the original layers intact. Maybe you can't get a good Takanuva image, but there's tons of sweet wallpapers in there that you can use.)
  10. I'm afraid it's not MeNOL either. Although maybe I'm thinking of the first version... was Onu-Metru ever released before they decided to remake the whole thing?
  11. That's what I thought it was, but his description made it sound like a fan-made game. They were similar but I'm pretty sure this one was fan made. They did have some things in common, for example in both the Archives walls were light gray and there was a Rahi on display in a clear box like here. But the game I'm thinking of had that 2D MNOG-style art, and you could explore more of the Archives than in the promo CD. (Or maybe my memory is just playing tricks on me. )
  12. There was a game posted on BZPower years ago where you explored the Metru Nui Archives. It was a first-person point-and-click like the MNOG but a lot smaller in scope. I think there was a plot point about waiting for an airship to make a delivery, but I couldn't say for sure. Do any of you remember this game, and if so do you have any more details on it?
  13. I love this game. A sequel would be awesome! (Although it should probably not use Flash.) I knew there was a version before the current one, but I'd never seen it before, thanks for sharing it! Was the original version ever finished, or was it just Po-Metru and the Coliseum? For those interested it was developed by Tula and -Takua-. Unfortunately neither of them are active here anymore. But SPIRIT and Gatanui were both beta testers I believe, so they may have info.
  14. True, the California flag does have some history behind it. I'm a fan myself but the bear could be simplified for sure. Maybe if the C on the Colorado flag were smaller it wouldn't be as tacky? Like this old one. What are your ten favorites?
  15. Cool design, definitely simpler than the original. Interesting idea basing it on Norse/Nordic designs. You mentioned flags should avoid text on them, which seems reasonable enough as a general rule. That got me wondering, what are your opinions on the California and Colorado flags? The California flag has "California Republic" written on the bottom but imo the font isn't bland and adds to the design (certainly more so than the text on the Iowa flag). And the Colorado flag has the C that is sort of a logo on its own.
  16. Destiny war, Toa hylrex vs the protodermis entity. Okay so answer me this then, how do Toa of air create or change the density of air? Can they only compress air to a certain point? Btw the Toa of water Toa of ice comparison is legitimate, but ice isn't just condensed water, it's also crystalized, and I believe I've heard of Toa of water controlling water vapor before. Ah, got it. Here's the quote for reference: Helryx can't control Energized Protodermis, but she can control the normal liquid protodermis that's in the Matoran Universe oceans, which is "water" to the Matoran. Toa of Air can probably change the density of air, as long as it stays a gas. Maybe the limit of their powers is that they can't compress air into a liquid. Or maybe they can, but then they lose control over the liquid. As for the water vs. vapor issue, elemental powers were designed by the Great Beings, so they can be pretty arbitrary. I guess the GBs thought it was useful for Water to include water vapor, probably because there's so much of it. (Of course the real answer is that it was convenient for the writers. ) Likewise, my guess is that Toa of Air can't control liquid air because it's so exotic the GBs didn't bother with it. Actually, do we know how much control Toa of Water have over vapor? The example that comes to mind is Gali pulling moisture from the air in Karzahni. That's not all that different from a Toa of Ice freezing water, really. Or do Toa of Water have more control over vapor than that?
  17. First, the protodermis question. Out of curiosity, where did Helryx say that? Toa could control either the protodermis or normal versions of their elements. However, Toa that were used to controlling the protodermis version of their element had to train a bit before they could control the normal version, or vice-versa. That process wasn't something the story touched on really, so I figure it wasn't that hard switching between the two. That said, Air is a unique element because the Matoran Universe contained actual air instead of gaseous protodermis. Cool as it might be, I doubt Toa of Air could control air in liquid or solid form, for the same reason Toa of Water can't control ice and Toa of Ice can't control liquid water. Maybe a really experienced Toa of Air could filter out the different gasses in air. If so, I imagine Toa of Iron or Toa of Water could filter out impurities from their elements too. A Toa of Air definitely couldn't break chemical bonds though. If nothing else, I bet a Toa of Air could take two different gasses and combine them to start a chemical reaction.
  18. For what it's worth BS01 has a chat that you can use if you're a registered member. It's not on BZP of course, but there's a lot of overlap between the two communities. The chat is very inactive currently, but if enough BZPers are interested that could change quickly.
  19. Sorry about the wait, I was out of town. Yeah, here are instructions! As for those big gears, I think I got them from Sidorak. Here is a list of sets that use them. Thanks for the comment!
  20. It's not the most aesthetically pleasing, I'll give you that. But hey, looking good wasn't really the point. If it reminds you of the old Dark Hunter MOCs, I'll call that a win in my book. Sorry for not responding earlier--thanks for the positive responses everyone! And for your votes too--off to the finals! That said, I'd love to hear criticism and/or suggestions on how to improve this MOC!
  21. When I hovered over the actual thing, most of the slope showed searches in 2006. I guess the numbers are just a bit weird. I think it looks weird because 2007 on the graph corresponds to the beginning of 2007, not the middle. Not the most intuitive. Vertical gridlines would help. Up your game Google.
  22. First off, welcome to BZPower! Overall I think it feels like something that belongs in Le-Wahi, so I think you nailed the theme. I actually like how you used a plus rod for the beak--not only does it match the thinness of a hummingbird beak, but it reminds me of the early Rahi that didn't rely too much on specialized parts. I also like how the head is made of gears for the same reason. Nice use of the leaves and Ehlek spines for feathers too. And good job not only incorporating a gear function but making it so central to the MOC! One thing I may recommend is removing the silver blades from the wings. They seem sort of out of place among the red and green, and they're small enough I think you could remove them without sacrificing too much bulk. Good job and good luck!
  23. Ha, I think we were looking at each others' entries at the same time! This is great vignette. You definitely stayed true to the "kickin' it" part of the theme. It's neat how you did the glasses on Duka--is there any way to connect the lenses at the center? The flexibility in his design is nice too--even though you do use CCBS to do it, I don't think it detracts from the model at all. The Vako really feels like a Rahi that belongs on Mata Nui. The tubing as water coming off it is a subtle but very nice touch. And I'm jealous that you have so many of those triangle connectors. Seriously great work, I hope this makes it far!
  24. Among the Dark Hunters' ranks stand some of the cleverest spies and backstabbers the universe has ever seen. But sometimes The Shadowed One just wants to break stuff. That's when he calls in Rampage. Flickr album Gear function! (gif) My entry to BBC #73. Few things stand out as more quintessentially G1 to me than the models from the 2006 Dark Hunters book. I tried to replicate that unpolished mechanical style here. In fact, as far as I know all the pieces in Rampage except the upper arms were available in 2005 when the Dark Hunter contest took place. I'd love to hear your comments and criticism! Edit 2016-07-17: Gear function instructions!
