    Spunk Mail

Back in 2014, I had a really cool idea for a comedic story, but it would have been in comic form. Not willing to go through that at the time, I put the idea in my back pocket and let it sit. Finally, just a few days ago, it dawned on me that I could just write the idea out as a comedy! So, here it is. I hope you all enjoy! ----- Chapter 1 After the taming of the Bohrok swarm, the island of Mata Nui was once again at peace and the lives of the Matoran were made easier with the reprogrammed Bohrok helping them in repairing damaged villages. However, Turaga Vakama was somewhat uneasy. Fearing that threats similar to the Bohrok swarm would be unleashed upon the island and nobody being able to communicate efficiently enough, Vakama called a meeting with the other Turaga. They all agreed that they would each employ messengers to carry mail to other villages just in case. The system began with six brave mailmen/women handpicked from their villages. Each were brave souls that would traverse any terrain, safely avoid the most dangerous Rahi, and go on for days with undying determination and bravery. “Is he sleeping again?” Maglya, lava board under his arm, asked, staring at a Ta-Matoran sleeping out in the main area of Ta-Koro. The Matoran in question had a red torso and arms, yellow legs and hands, and an orange Hau, a very rare mask to have. He was, indeed, passed out on his back in the middle of the busy village, snoring away. “Afraid so,” Nuri replied, “How can he just fall asleep out here like this, especially when he has one of the most important jobs in the village?” Maglya scratched the back of his head. “To be fair, it’s only his first day.” “On my first day at the Ta-Koro Guard, I was mistaken for the tea lady.” Nuri commented. “I made the tea and a clarification afterwards. It was a rough first day, but at least I did what I was told.” “Point taken. I’ll do him a solid and wake him up.” The lava surfer walked up to the sleeping Matoran and looked down at him. Maglya raised his board above his head, and before Nuri could say anything, brought it down on the sleeper’s red chest. With a breathless grunt, the sleeper sat up. “Wake up, buttercup.” Maglya jested. “Don’t you have somewhere to be?” “Ah, the reclamation yard!” The lazy Matoran exclaimed, scrambling to his feet. “Thanks, Maglya!” “What reclamation yard? Aren’t you supposed to report to the Turaga today?” “The old man can wait! There’s work to oversee; work that’s far more important than helping the elderly!” Maglya’s eyes almost bulged out of the eye holes of his Kakama. Finding himself in a sticky situation, the seemingly insane stranger took off toward Vakama’s hut, not saying another word to the stunned surfer. Panicked, the Matoran screeched to a halt in the doorway of Vakama’s hut. Turaga Vakama stood with his back toward said doorway, standing in front of a great fire. Without the visitor saying a word, the Turaga turned around to look at the Matoran. “You’re just in time, Saru.” He said. “Thank you for your timely arrival and agreeing to filling this position.” “I am? Wait- Yes, I am.” Saru replied, going from confusion to boldness in a matter of a second. “I believe I am a great fit for this job.” “I agree that choosing you as my head mailman was a wise choice. You’re obedient and loyal, you have the energy necessary to complete your work, and you’re unemployed.” “Finally, we have something to thank Aodhan for; that freeloading, gossiping, steaming pile of-” “I have a letter for you to deliver.” Vakama interrupted, presenting a stone tablet with words carved into it. “I must ask that you take this to Ga-Koro and present it to Turaga Nokama.” Saru took the tablet and read Nokama’s name. “What is it? A love letter?” He jokingly asked, looking up at Vakama. “What? Why would you think-” “Dear, Nokama.” Saru began, looking at the tablet. “Saru, I must-” “Even though your element is Water, you looked pretty smokin’ at that last meeting.” “Saru, please.” “If you want, maybe we can hang out on that beach where Pelagia almost had a death wish and accidentally slammed her boat into those tall rocks and we can talk about our feelings, watch the sunset, and smooch-” “Give me that!” Vakama shouted, snatching the tablet away. “It is not a love letter; it is an invitation to have a Kolhii match to liven up the village’s spirits! Morale has been a little low and everyone has been working very hard, so I felt like rewarding them with a simple Kolhii match.” “That’s a noble thing to do, Turaga. That would make you look pretty manly, and I think-” “Maybe I should just have Takua deliver this.” Saru widened his eyes and gasped. “You don’t think I can do it. You think I’m just the incompetent, lazy jokester who will just end up hitting on the Ga-Matoran, don’t you?” Vakama sighed. “No, that is not what I think, Saru.” “Then allow me to prove myself, Turaga. I have so much to learn and I’m willing to help in any way I can, so please let me have this. The experience will do me some good!” “I want to, Saru, but I do not think you can take this seriously.” Before Vakama could blink, Saru had already turned around to face the village outside. “Hey, everybody,” he called, “Turaga Vakama-” A loud thump had startled Saru, cutting him off. He turned around to find Vakama had tossed the tablet at his feet. “Really?” he asked hopefully. “You have one shot at proving yourself.” Vakama said firmly, “Don’t screw it up, kid. Also, tell Pelagia that I hope she heals up soon.” “You won’t regret it, Turaga! Thank you!” Saru ran out of the hut and toward the village gates, excited to get to Ga-Koro. Vakama shook his head with a sigh, only to realize something right in the middle of it. “Kapura, where are you? He forgot the letter!” After Kapura had caught up with Saru, realized that he also forgot the letter, went back to get it, ran all the way back, and handed off the letter, the mail carrier was truly ready for his first day. He made the trek all the way to Ga-Koro, making good time in the process. Saru reached the Ga-Koro beach and looked over at the Gali waterfall carved into a cliff side with a chuckle, thinking about how it appears as if Gali is vomiting or drooling excessively. Brushing this off, he approached the gates of the buoyant village and looked at the two Ga-Matoran guards, both armed with wooden spears. “Well, hello there, Shasa.” He greeted, making sure the forehead of his mask was properly dusted, “How are you doing on this fine, beautiful day?” “Hello, Saru.” Shasa replied, trying not to glorify the Ta-Matoran with an enthusiastic answer. “I’m doing fine, thanks. What brings you to Ga-Koro today?” “I’m here on super-secret official business. It’s a dangerous mission; so dangerous, that I might not return alive.” Shasa rolled her eyes. “You aren’t here to tell Macku that Hewkii’s into that Okoth lookalike, are you?” Amaya asked, tilting her head to the side. “Not that dangerous.” “Then why is your mission occurring in a mostly safe place?” Shasa inquired, already done with Saru’s little game. “I have a letter for Turaga Nokama from Turaga Vakama.” The mailman explained, presenting the tablet to the guards and pointing at Nokama’s name, “I’m here to pass on a safe, peaceful message.” “Alright, you can go through, but you know the drill.” Shasa replied, raising the bars of the gate. Saru walked onto the bridge leading to the village. “Yeah, yeah; don’t touch anything.” “Have fun!” Amaya called after him as the bars of the gate lowered themselves again. ----- Next part's coming soon. Thank you for reading!
  2. Thanks for adding me, man!

  4. I believe the prototype for Matau Hordika did use the same head as Vakama Hordika. Oh, did it? Huh, that's pretty cool. Well, at least if anyone wants to build that variant, they don't have to give up an arm and a leg for a rare prototype! Aye, I found the images in question. They're not great pictures but they do show the heads are clearly the same (Whenua also used the same head as Onewa did, too). I also only just noticed they have different left arms than the final builds, too. I don't think I've ever seen either of those pieces in those colours though. Ah, there's the image! Yeah, they really do have the same head mold. As for the left-hand arms, I don't believe Matau's is available in Metru green, but I know Vakama's can be found in a 2006 BIONICLE play set. If I remember correctly, I think Nuju had the head Whenua ended up using.

  6. I can do the exact same thing. I have silver hooks (probably from Dume and Nivawk) and a silver Kaukau from the Bohrok-era mask/krana packs, and I'm really tempted to try this now, since I still have all my Bionicle parts and that color scheme sounds really cool. With what I have, I can make a perfect Water Onua Nuva. I can also make a Fire Onua with an orange mask and claws. And if I do that, but replace all the red parts with white, it could be Plasma Onua too! (Okay, I'm really tempted to build that last one now.) There's actually a Bionicle webcomic out there that uses photos, and the main characters are just the 2002 Toa Nuva rebuilt into different colors and given different names. Though half of them have silver masks from the Kal era because I presume the author doesn't own them in their normal colors. (Like, the Fire Toa is red Lewa with a silver mask, the Stone Toa is just brown Gali, etc.) It was a pretty cool color swap. You have the pieces, so I recommend building it, even if it's just for ten minutes. It's a pretty cool thing to look at, especially if you have the original Gali Mata built. If you do any of those, I'd love to see some pictures, especially of the Plasma Onua! Also, you could do the same for Tahu if you have the white Hau and you could make a plasma Gali if you have orange hooks. That's an interesting concept. The adventures of a bunch of palette swaps under different names is definitely a rare premise. Reminds me of Red vs. Blue, too; what with most of the characters basically being palette swaps of Halo's Master Chief. Anyway, as for the comic, being a photo comic just makes it better. I mean, anyone could use sprites for it, but this guy got the pieces and filmed it in real life! If I find time, I will. I still have my bonkles, but they're buried in my basement somewhere. I also just had another idea: Iron Pohatu. I can make him black as a base (using the dark grey Rahkshi arms for his arms), but with burnt orange joints and mask from Matoran Hewkii. Maybe he'll have Pohatu Nuva's shoes since they're silver. I could also try to make different colored versions of Tahu and Lewa Nuva, but they'd have to have silver masks. I would say Kopaka too, since I have a silver Akaku Nuva, but I don't have his shield in any other colors, so I can't really see that working. In that case, Root, I could also make your Stone Lewa, but he'd have to have a silver mask 'cause that's all I've got besides the default green one. Now, last but not least, Tahu. I'm thinking I could make him something really out there and not at all Tahu-like. Jungle, maybe? He'd be green with blue limbs! Perfect! Looks like we've got ourselves a solid recolor Toa Team here (though half of them are Nuva and half of them aren't, but whatever)! Plasma Onua, Ice Gali, Iron Pohatu, Water Onua Nuva, Stone Lewa Nuva (w/ silver mask), and Plant Life Tahu Nuva (w/ silver mask)! Perfect! No rush at all. If you ever get around to it, I would be curious to seeing your results. That's a really cool idea. I can honestly see that working. Also, I'd be more afraid of a kick from Fehatu than a kick from Pohatu. Sucks that you only got silver for those guys, but at least it would match up with the armor and weapons. Can't complain about that, I guess. If you can give him the cream-colored legs that I couldn't provide, I would be very pleased. However, it would be a bittersweet ending to that episode due to the lack of a brown mask. My mind will fill in the missing color, though. That's oddly similar to my BZPersona, a Toa of Plantlife with a Hau. I can still see it being a cool-looking palette swap, though! That's an interesting lineup! I can imagine a story to go along with them, too. They all have the same names and stuff, but their personalities correspond gto their element changes. For example, a colder, more antisocial version of Gali and a calmer, more collected Tahu. Obviously, there would have to be some personality traits reminiscent of the water Gali and fire Tahu to keep them from being lazy rewrites, but I see potential here. I was thinking of making them more like completely new characters who just happen to look exactly like existing Toa in different colors. (If you're ever been into Transformers toys, you should know exactly what I'm talking about.) Though I do like "Fehatu" for the Iron Pohatu. Original? No. Fun to say? Yeh. Speaking of BZPersonas, I was actually thinking of making one of these recolor Toa my new BZPersona (most likely Plasma Onua, but Fehatu sounds like an okay fit too). My old one from '03 is a product of my 8-year-old mind and I would much rather retire him. (I don't wanna clutter up this topic with talk of BZPersonas, so if you're curious about my old BZPersona, go ahead and PM me. ) That's fine, too. Just a thought. Wasn't meant to be original, but yeah, it's still a pretty effective name, especially when you're trying to have a different label than "Iron Pohatu." I'll go ahead and continue that discussion in PM. Yeah, with Nokama Metru and Idris from the Karzahni set! I actually thought of that, but decided it would be too easy. Speaking of Karzahni, you can use his thigh armor to make a green Vakama Hordika, but the fire weapons don't come in green. Reminds me of the Waikirus I made at one point. I didn't have Pahrak, so I improvised and made white and green variants with Kohrak and Lehvak.

  8. You know what that reminds me of? Cybots.

I mean, anyone could use sprites for it, but this guy got the pieces and filmed it in real life! I did something similar to that; making a palette swap of my self MOC. He's green and white, but I changed all of the green to red and trans orange. Sadly, due to a lack of pieces, I couldn't have them both built at the same time. However, I bet if I found the right pieces, I could have them both built at the same time. That reminds me of a Bohrok that an old friend built for fun. If I remember correctly, he tried to match Keetongu's color scheme as best as he could, but had to use black in some places. Another time, he tried to make a completely black Bohrok with trans red eyes. I think he actually succeeded, even having the giant head flap part in black. The only non-official piece he used for it was the rubber band, which was your normal, everyday rubber band that he used as a substitute for the regular ones, which he apparently lacked.
  10. I once built an ice version of Gali Mata. Problem was that the mask was grey instead of white and the hooks were silver. Either way, it was a really cool palette swap. Another time, I tried to make a stone version of Lewa Nuva, and I had almost all of the necessary parts. However, I was missing two: the cream colored legs. Ended up using Pridak's forearms instead. Had the thing built and I enjoyed him for a bit.
  11. Same here. I kinda want to get some just to see what the quality is because they look pretty cool with all their tweaks, if they weren't the crummy fragile plastic I'm familiar with I'd be fine putting them up with my normal Bionicles. Actually, if I were LEGO, I would try to find who made these and hire them as set designers. I hear that Sega hired some Sonic fans after they made their own game, maybe this would be the same kind of idea. I've thought that way about bootlegs in the past myself. It's a shame that the plastic for these bootlegs is bound to suck because yeah, they do look cool, even when put up next to the real thing. The bootleg designers did do a pretty good job in terms of appearance, so if I were a higher-up in LEGO, I'd consider the bootleggers, too. Also, I hear Valve hired people who modded their games (I could be wrong about that), so the idea isn't farfetched.
  12. I may sound like a heretic, but it's bootlegs like these that I'm actually okay with. Awesome recolored pieces and distinct differences from the original model(s) can actually make a bootleg seem really awesome. It looks like these manufacturers wanted to rip off the Protectors, but put their own spin on them. It's a morally questionable business practice, sure, but it's so hard for me to get mad at the recolored pieces, the vibrant color schemes, and Kivoda's flail. When bootlegs actually put in some effort and make something that actually looks cool, I have a tough time laughing or cringing at the theft. If I had one thing to complain about, though, it's that the makeover took something away from all the Protectors: their bodily diversity. What I mean is that the designers over at LEGO did use two basic builds for the Protectors, but did something different with each one to make them different from one another. Kivoda had skinny arms and wide hips, Izotor had bulky armor, Vizuna looked like a skinny guy in big armor, etc. With these bootlegs, the only diversity comes in armor ornaments and Izotor's legs. I get that I'm talking about bootlegs here, but with all the effort already put into them, the makeover feels a little incomplete to me.
  13. An active comics forum. I showed up with my own comics right before the forum overhaul, so the comics forum itself was just leaving its prime. Before then, I had lurked the comics forum and frequented Dark709's Comics, Maphrox's Comics (the one where he used Blender and his style became a hit), BladeTitan974's Comics, and VakamaTK's Comics. I loved those comics and they, like many other comics, were receiving updates. I sometimes kick back in my chair and try and think about the comics forum in its prime. New authors having some cool jokes to tell, people making friends and starting a series with them, people innovating the comic-making method and other people joining in, and tons of new individual comics every day. I never got to experience that to its full extent, and man, I wish I did. Nowadays, there's a small amount of authors and slow updates. Sure, I understand the reason behind the slow updates and nobody seems to care that much about it anyway, but I guess I'm dreaming of a time when everyone was still a young teen, there were small amounts of homework for everyone, and nobody was using GIMP. I guess I just wish we had more young and willing comic makers ready to show off their talents, tell a great story, and/or abuse stereotypes. So yeah, I miss the old comics forum. The amount of activity that used to go on in there was incredible, but everybody grew up and moved on at similar times.
  14. Reminds me of an old friend who mispronounced Zaktan as "za-kuh-tan", Hewkii as "hyoo-wee-kee", Inika as "ig-nie-kuh", and Mahri as "Muh-haw-ree". Needless to say, our BIONICLE discussions back in 2006 and 2007 were frustrating to listen to. I had another old friend who said "tony" instead of Toa and I'd pronounce Toa as "toy-yuh". I was right with you there. Years later, I decided to think that WoS happened before the ending of LoMN and I was satisfied.
  15. I thought romance was canon for a while. For a short time, I thought Garan was tured into Reidak by some kinda curse or something. I think I might have misunderstood an event in a BIONICLE Heroes trailer... Either way, I was not an observant kid. The memory's fuzzy, so I wouldn't ask about it. I once thought Matoran Universe inhabitants could celebrate real world holidays like Christmas. This was another short-lived misconception. After seeing those 3D Piraka animations with the mini games, I didn't think the Piraka could speak any languages and could somehow communicate through growls, grunts, and roars. I thought Vezok and Vezon were brothers because I didn't understand the "double" shtick. When I first saw pictures of the Toa Mata in 2006 or so, they looked small compared to the Inika, so I thought the Mata were children! I thought Toa Ignika would never speak (not even during his sacrifice, but could communicate through sign language, which everybody magically knew. My incredible seven-year-old mind turned the word "Rahaga" into "Raphga". To this day, I don't think I have a good explanation for this one. A terrible misread, perhaps? As you could tell, I was a noob kid.
  16. if you look closely there 4 anime reference see if you can find one. I don't actually watch a lot of anime and I've only seen about 4 in their entirety. I remember the One-Punch Man reference you pointed out to me, but I can't spot any other references. I kinda see similarities between the rivalries of Wairu & Husker and Kyo & Yuki from Fruits Basket, but that's about it.
  17. This is probably your best comic so far! You've outdone yourself in pretty much every way! The mystery aspect has drawn me in more than usual, the humor is easily the greatest in the whole series, and the newly-introduced drawn expressions are really well-done and they really convey what the characters are thinking/feeling. Now to get into detail! Did I see Mupaei and another Rahkshi? It's clear that there are more villains in there and that the subplot you've introduced will be driven further. I'm excited to see where you'll take the story! When I said "drawn expressions", I mean the ones where Wairu is coming up with a strategy while Husker blankly looks at his screen. I really like how you used them, as they were used rather appropriately and like I said before, they served their purpose by showing us how the characters were thinking. The extreme detail in Wairu's face was also incredible. The over-the-top anger and determination in his expression is hilarious and it's among the angriest faces I've ever seen. As for the humor in general, again, it's your best so far. Dallior walking in on all the discarded consoles (why were there so many duplicates?!), Wairu's frustrations shown in greater detail, and the boys tidying up the room and playing nice in the last panel all made for a great scenario. The execution was amazing as well. Overall, I really love this comic. Definitely worth the wait and it was a fantastic read. If you can top this, I'd love to see it.
  18. I actually got a knockoff Kualus once, but sadly it didn't come with a Darth Vader mask... the jealousy is strong with this one...Goes to show you just how dumb it is compared to the real thing. Meanwhile, there are people who have that Darth Vader mask! Maybe there was bad luck on your part or something?
  19. I always saw them as massive hands that were more solid than other hands, so if Tahu, Lewa, or Pohatu punched you, it would hurt due to the solidity of the hand. Ahead of what? I can't believe Kopaka's hand is plagiarised. I can. He gave me a weird vibe from the start. His eye that isn't part of the scope setup was like a doll's eye.
  20. The only similarities I can spot are the elemental stuff, a shadowy figure as a main villain, the gold guy being super special, maybe a few comparable personalities, and a skeleton army. Even I could take all of these features and make two separate stories that only have said features in common. If I could pull it off, so can LEGO. It's almost like somebody said, "BIONICLE started fifteen years ago and then ended five years ago. Pretty long run that ended long ago; I doubt anyone's gonna notice." Ha, what do you take us for, LEGO? People who don't read into stuff?
  21. Even though I was too young to remember it, I still know 9/11 was a tough day for our country. I'm glad we can all come together as a nation and remember what happened. May all those poor people rest in peace.

    Root of Vengeance

I always felt like all of my comics before Root of Vengeance were really vintage-style because I was one of few comic makers who wouldn't "evolve" with everyone else. I stayed on MSPaint and made comics that seemed like they came from Dark709's prime. Now that I think about it, chapter 0 really was a bit of a callback to 2009's comic fight scenes. Before the big leap to GIMP, that's sorta what the fight scenes looked like because if you didn't have GIMP, you worked with what you had, making the scenes seem stiff and basic. However, some of the special effects I used weren't possible around ten years ago. I didn't intend for chapter 0's fight scene to be any sort of callback, but when you put it that way, I like that aspect. Thank you! There will be more fight scenes later on, so there is a lot to look forward to!
