  1. Yeah, the GM power goes to your head for sure... I mean I almost got to the point where I thought white-coloring my text was nifty!
  2. Yeah I'm fangirling pretty hard right about now.
  3. Props, Hub. The amount of time and energy you consistently pour into the game has always astounded me. Your passion has been contagious for countless players over these many years; thank you for helping keep our game alive the way you do.
  4. Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the creations. A lot of the photo excellence is probably due to Pat's awesome camera. The thing on Uegawa's shoulder is indeed, as Bonkle suggested, a banner. Hope my odd use of the Furno blades didn't throw you too much. Stop, you're making me blush!
  5. BZPRPG MASTER RULES I. General Rules All BZP forum rules apply! No flaming, spamming, trolling, inappropriate content, or other rule-breaking actions are allowed. Please take all personal disputes and conversations to PM, and if the situation cannot be resolved that way, talk to one of the Hosts or other BZPRPG staff members about the problem. These kinds of disputes are not to be had in the General Discussion topic.Do not insult other members.Though we are generally more lenient in the BZPRPG when it comes to PG-13 rated content than BZPower at large, please use common sense and remember that many of BZPower's visitors and members are minors. If your post contains inappropriate content or circumvents the word filter, we will ask you to edit the offending section out, or do it ourselves. If you are concerned that your post may be inappropriate, feel free to run it by a BZPRPG staffer before you publish it.II. Basic Gameplay Rules The BZPRPG is a constantly evolving story written by the players, not a video game. You cannot win, nor can you lose. You must put "IC:" at the beginning of all role-playing posts. This is so that players recognize that you are posting as your character and adding to the story. IC stands for "in character".Conversely, you must put "OOC:" at the beginning of all parts of posts that do not have game content in them. This is called "out of character" and it is what OOC stands for. Keep OOC content to a minimum in role-playing posts and instead use the General Discussion topic for OOC matters. You are allowed to double-post in gameplay topics. However, you must wait twelve hours before doing this, so that others have the chance to post a response. The maximum number of posts you can make in a row this way is three.God-modding and other overpowered play is not allowed. (See section on God-modding)Adhere to basic science, such as gravity, inertia, and nature. Your character cannot bend the rules of the universe to better suit them. Logic and reason come first.Objects do not and cannot appear from thin air. You must describe how an object came into your player's possession before they can have it.Although the BZPRPG is a game founded in many parts of the BIONICLE canon, there are parts of the canon that the game discards or ignores. Unless something from the BIONICLE canon is acknowledged by a staff source to exist in the BZPRPG, it cannot be assumed to exist in the BZPRPG universe.III. Character Rules Player Characters (PC's) must adhere to all trait-related guidelines as posted in the Profiles topic unless otherwise stated by staff. It is required for your character to have one or more weaknesses. Invincibility is illegal. In PC versus PC combat, it is extremely discouraged to be unhittable. Dodging every attack thrown at you is a form of God-modding. (See section on God-modding)A character's weapons, technological items, mask, and other important belongings of theirs are regarded as extensions of their body. As such, a character's important possessions may not be taken, destroyed, or otherwise affected without the permission of the character's player. Actions which affect a character's possessions without explicitly given permission are autohits.PC traits should only be acquired or altered through IC play.Do not play as another player's character unless that player has given you explicit permission to do so. Likewise, you cannot kill or seriously injure another character without that player's permission.Non-Player Characters (NPC's) are legal to use in your posts. However, recurring NPC's such as personal bodyguards, armies, servants, etc. are not allowed.NPCs may be killed without permission from a player, seeing as they do not belong to a player. However, it is recommended that you bear in mind that NPCs are people too, and take just as much effort to kill as any other characters.IV. God-Modding Rules Deus Ex Machina's (an unrealistic or improbable way of getting your characters out of a bad situation) are not allowed.Auto-hitting (throwing an attack at an enemy character and not allowing them to respond) is not allowed.Using powers in battle that are not predefined in one's profile is not allowed. If someone hits you where it hurts, then be hurt. Disregarding your weaknesses is not allowed. You may not use information gathered OOC in IC posts. This includes details of other players' profiles - otherwise known as "Metagaming" or "Breaking the fourth wall".Editing your character's traits directly before a fight in order to make them more suited to that fight is a form of GMing.V. Staff Respect all staff members.Respect all staff judgment calls and punishments.Staff members reserve the right to do whatever they want to your characters in the IC world as a form of punishment. These punishments are non-negotiable, and a disregard for staff decisions and/or punishments IC will be dealt with severely.Do not act like you're staff if you aren't. Backseat moderating isn't helpful to us in running the game. Friendly, helpful tips to other members, however, are welcomed.VI. The Three-Strike System As of this year, the staff has decided to employ a three-strike system in order to deal with repeated rule breaking and other severe infractions. Should a player do so to a degree deemed serious by staff, that member will receive a strike. The strikes are here listed with consequences: Strike One: Official warning from a staff member.Strike Two: Temporary suspension. You are not allowed to post in any BZPRPG topics for an amount of time decided by the staff member giving the suspension.Strike Three: Permanent banning from the BZPRPG.Only Tyler can issue third strikes to members. All BZPRPG staff can give first and second strikes.
  6. IMPORTANT STAFF ANNOUNCEMENT! Hello all- I'll be upfront: my in-game activity of late has been... well, frankly, it hasn't been. Due to a variety of factors, I find myself no longer able to dedicate the amount of time, energy, and creativity to the BZPRPG which I consider requisite of a good Game Master. Because I want to stop impeding any forward motion in the game - because doing so isn't fair to you, dear player base - and because I recognize that the needs of the game are outside my current and future capacities to maintain, I have decided to step down from my position as BZPRPG Game Master. My successor, your new GM effective immediately, is Tyler. All hail the Pinkie of Smite! Long may he reign. During his career as a player and his time as a staff member, Rob has demonstrated his passion for the game, his creativity, his skill, and his administrative sense of humor more times than I could possibly count. I have full confidence in his abilities to guide this RPG into an era of new successes, and to continue innovating within the world of the game (with the indispensable help of the invaluable Gabe and Alex, let's not forget!). Yesterday, I had a conference call with the staff to inform them of the succession, and to discuss the new landscape of our team. They all wholly support Tyler as their next captain, and have graciously asked me to stay on board, albeit in a smaller role. I will remain a member of the BZPRPG staff, serving as an OOC administrator and creative consultant. I may, one day, peek my head back into the IC level of things, but probably only at a standard PC level... Unless, one day, Tyler invites me in for a guest-smite. I could probably manage to do that. I'd like to take my final moment on the bully pulpit to express what an honor it's been to have served this game the way that I did. I can still remember the moment when Josh handed this beast over to me, officially... seems like ages ago, but I recall having felt all the new responsibility and power sink onto my shoulders like a heavy (that is to say, heavily pimpin') cape. I remember the sense of obligation - of empowerment - to transform the BZPRPG into the kind of game I thought it deserved to be, an obligation I continue feeling to this day. I feel pretty good about having served that obligation, which is why I'm okay with stepping down now. I witnessed remarkable creativity from you all, dear players, during my time on top: that was really what inspired me to push the game to be as good as I could. I'm very proud of what we, as a community, accomplished under my tenure. Perhaps what I'm most proud of is that I managed to pound into so many of your heads the importance of character/CD above powers/"winning." Some of you who are newer to the community may not be able to appreciate how fundamental that change in mindset has been from previous iterations of the BZPRPG, and how much better it is, so just take my word for it. Strike that: I'm most proud of finishing the Starter Topic. Formatting nightmare. Anywho, I think that's it. Thank you all for such an enjoyable run. I eagerly await watching this game grow from the backseat. Best, Aaron
  7. Hey guys! These are a pair of MOCs I built when I went to hang out with the fantastic DeeVee and Nukaya at their LEGO palace in SoCal. I made them in less than 24 hours, cumulatively, and I was pretty proud of that. S/o to Pat for letting me use all his gorgeous pieces... as well as his fancy camera. Here are Suzuno and Uegawa. I didn't bother thinking up much backstory for them- I think they're ancient warriors? Who have beef with each other? Iunno. Enjoy. (All images link to larger versions on Flickr) SUZUNO - THE CHALLENGER! UEGAWA - THE CREATURE! For more/larger pictures, check out the album on Flickr. Thanks for viewing, I appreciate all commentary!
  8. Let me clarify: it's not so much that I find the color choices unoriginal as a complete scheme (we've not seen a set with trans-lime, trans-orange, and silver together as its primary colors before, in my memory), it's more that I feel like trans-lime, trans-orange, and silver are colors that BIONICLE has overused and turned to frequently - separately - and I wished that 70794 introduced some less-common, more "original/inspired" colors.
  9. Thanks for taking a look Andrew! I'm curious: does that hairpiece fit over normal minifigure shoulders? If so, could you show a picture?
  10. Are you, though? We can change that.
  11. Howdy guys! This is the topic for my "third wave" of (Not) LEGO Dragon Lands. (Not) LEGO Dragon Lands is a MOC series that's meant to be like a new theme of LEGO fantasy; as such, the creations below are designed to be as stable, functional, and reasonably-sized as real LEGO sets. The creations I make in my "themes" (I've done several like this in the past) are designed to complement each other, and be highly playable as a cohesive theme. Like I said, this is the topic for the imaginary third wave of Dragon Lands (wave one can be seen in-depth here, and wave two here). This arc is a lot of fun for me because it's a prequel story to the first two. The orc-like Ustokal race and the elegant woodland Faeries - allies of the humans of the Kingdom of Ardun - are in the throes of an age-old war where sorcerers, dragons, and magical artifacts become valuable weapons! For those of you who remember the first two waves, this is all happening a generation before them... Some of the oldest characters, like Althior, Scallow, and Rothut are visibly younger in this story (that was fun to play with!); the Ustokal Vorash is still a prince; the legendary fire drake Radgha - who appeared as an undead dragon in wave two - is still alive. In making this wave, I wanted to implement more - and more diverse - play features in the dragons themselves. You'll see dragons with flapping wings, striking heads, and more; all of that was a real blast to design, on top of creating a few new dragon characters. I've also enjoyed building other types of fantastical creatures this time around, like the Golem in 64030, and exploring new locations and structures. The more I build in the Dragon Lands vein, the more easily it comes; I've just been having a blast with the project so far. Less than half is currently completed as of the time of my posting this topic, but I figured it'd be cool to share some of what I've made so far. All images link to their larger versions on my Flickr. 12. Karzahni and Artakha are known and imagined by the denizens of Mata Nui as legendary figures (like King Arthur or Johnny Appleseed). Their respective realms are perceived similarly in the zeitgeist (like Atlantis or El Dorado). Such figures/places may have existed in some form or another, for all the Mata Nuians know, but common knowledge dictates that odds aren't good these beings were all they've been cracked up to be... if ever they did exist. For IC purposes, I'd say that the mythology on Karzahni and Artakha is generally pretty varied and inclusive, for ease of consistency's sake. For most Mata Nuians, "Karzahni" has just become a meaningless swear word (like the f-word, for me: I use it as a blanket linguistic intensifier in daily life with little regard for its actual original meaning, so shoot me). "Artakha" seems to be less frequently used and doesn't have as many colloquial applications. When's the last time you saw somebody swear on the name of the creator guy? Interestingly, the mythology about Karzahni and Artakha extends to the Kentoku Archipelago as well. They're known there under the same names. But over there, "Karzahni" and its derivatives aren't understood or used as swears.
  13. Say Pat, I think I forgot to mention: me and that guy over the summer I told you about, we really went at it, y'know, mano-a-mono.
  14. Search no longer! Anywho, my staff and players have supplied just about all the reasons I could've given as to why the BZPRPG community shouldn't/won't switch our game over to a BIONICLE Gen 2 universe. Love you guys, thanks for doing all the heavy lifting. <3 So here's what I can contribute to the discussion: I, like Krayzikk, have encountered zero demand for Okotoan story elements, settings, characters, etc. from BZPRPG players (old and new alike). As such, my obligation as Game Master to even entertain the thought of rebooting our unique BZPRPG universe - a world of complex themes, specific lore, and colorful characters that's been years in the making - just for the sake of dipping toes into the exceptionally limited Gen 2 canon, is also zero. I'd encourage people interested in making/playing an Okotoan game to work together and submit one as a minor game for the BIONICLE RPG forum.
  15. Sorry, wasn't intending to be too harsh up there. I think I misunderstood what you were asking about; now that you've articulated what you meant, I can answer you by saying that I'm not sure if Geardirector is willing to "reserve" one of the Exo-Matoran for you/others OOC. That's his call, since he gets to distribute them however he wants. Making a suit that can withstand higher pressures is a structural engineering issue; making one that can resist higher temperatures is a substance engineering issue. While it's definitely within their power to shore up the suits by using more Rahkshi armor, and/or shaping the armor into stronger lattice shapes, the Onu-Koronan engineers have neither the know-how nor the ability to augment the actual metallic material they're working with so as to make it withstand heat any better than it already does. No, there's no list; I'd say again that this is something to bring up with Geardirector. As the leader of Onu-Koro, and the RPer of the lead engineer behind the Exo-Matoran project, he'll be best equipped (and uniquely qualified) to let you know who is actually able to manufacture these things. Odds are good that it's just an NPC engineer team, of which PC Wiremu is the head, that materializes the Exo-Matoran on their Akiri's say-so. However, if one or more talented engineer PC(s) got their hands on an Exo-Matoran, and studied it, and had the requisite 5 Rahkshi suits available, and got staff permission first, I wouldn't necessarily eliminate the possibility of second-party Exo-Matoran manufacture and customization... The original Exo-Matoran engineers, having the most thorough understanding of the machines, would be best equipped to innovate further and make a waterproof variety of suit. This would be new territory for them, but I can say definitively from an OOC staff perspective that if you brought the materials to Onu-Koronan engineers (whichever they may be; refer back to earlier in this post where I mentioned that Gear is the sole authority now on who has/doesn't have the know-how to make new ones), I'd allow them to make some kind of waterproof Exo-Matoran. I doubt any of the currently qualified inventors live in Koros other than Onu, but I'm not the one who can say for sure. IC knowledge would likely still dictate that Onu-Koro is the place to go for this kind of machine.
  16. While such a character could definitely make minor alterations/modifications, and even perform some repairs, on extant Exo-Matoran, I'd prefer if the know-how on building new ones stayed in my and Geardirector's hands, just for staffly regulation's sake.
  17. If your character is unable IC to procure a suit or inventor, that's nobody's problem to fix but yours. Currently none of the Exo-Matoran are equipped to go underwater, and if they tried they'd short-circuit. It'd be a major undertaking to modify one of the first 12 Exo-Matoran suits to be functional underwater; pursuing water functionality from the get-go would be a much more efficient way to produce an aquatic Exo-Matoran. You'd definitely be better able to equip it to do more than just sink. Silvan's right to point out that the best you could hope for, at least if you were to modify a "generation 1" Exo-Matoran, would be a very heavy walker for the seafloor, which probably wouldn't be able to go too deep because of mounting water pressure and limited air supply. If you go lava diving in an Exo-Matoran, both suit and pilot are gonna come out the other side as slag; I said above that the suit isn't good with high temperatures, and there's not much anybody can do to fix that. While the Exo-Matoran is designed to take a pretty long fall without too much damage, flight is out of the question for something so heavy and ill-suited for aerodynamics. Both of these potential applications for the suit are less likely to happen than aquatic compatibility. And to get aquatic capability, you'll really want to start from scratch to get the best result. If you wanted to have one of your own mechanic characters outfit a generation 1 Exo-Matoran for water use, you could do that, and you wouldn't need to kill any more Rahkshi to make the modifications... that is, if you wanted your new air tanks, etc. to be more vulnerable to damage than the hard Rahkshi armor that makes up the rest of the suit. So, again, I'd encourage you to kill the Rahkshi yourself, bring them to an Onu-Koronan inventor who knows how to make an Exo-Matoran, and get the thing made the right way.
  18. As stated in Nuju's post, Rahkshi armour for Exo-Matoran must be acquired by PCs by killing them IC. You may assume that the dead Rahkshi from Arc 1 have been salvaged by now and are not available for use. Correct. Assume stockpiled Rahkshi armor gathered thus far has already been used on the first 12 Exo-Matoran. That was 60 Rahkshi, which is actually a lot. Yees, Are these multi-sized or is it suppose to be something like, One-size-fits-all type deal? Reason I ask is because I have two active Matoran characters and others in the wind. However they are generally speaking the rebuilt design. Would that make them ineligible due to being larger than the diminished Matoran size depicted in the image? Also what of other small races such as Turaga. Even though this is called the Exo-Matoran are they the only ones to be able to use it? What if a Turaga character wanted one? I want one because I was not allowed to have a diver suit for my Ga-Matoran at the start of her creation. I think this was mentioned way back when and I have been just waiting for an official release to ask about it. So could they be used to supplement an underwater lifestyle or due to being primarily Onu-Matoran, would an aquatic variant be out of the question? In response to your first question: the Exo-Matoran has been designed to accommodate even the largest Matoran; remember, after all, these were built with the burliest of Ussalrymatoran in mind! The image in my post is just an approximation of how the Exo-Matoran look, for all of our imagination delights. A Turaga could use an Exo-Matoran, and would have to pursue the same avenues as anybody else to acquire one. In response to your second question: no aquatically-feasible Exo-Matoran have been built so far, since the Onu-Matoran saw no need for marine suits. If you got 5 Rahkshi corpses and a willing inventor - say, the brilliant Wiremu? - together, though, I imagine it wouldn't be impossible. I'd actually encourage you to pursue that, as I'd love to see an "Aqua-Exo!"
  19. It's overdue, but it's here at last: EXO-MATORAN OWNERSHIP INFORMATION (a rough estimation of what these bad boys look like) So you're an Ussalry warrior eager to increase his brawn in battle? A Ga-Matoran, tired of being called short by those pesky merchants? A visiting Dashi desperate to get her paws on some sweet, sweet Native Tech? The solution to all your problems is the same: the newest innovation from Onu-Koro's brilliant mechanical minds, the uber-armor you didn't even know you wanted until it was revealed to you... the EXO-MATORAN SUIT! What the Exo-Matoran is: A powerful, enclosed-cockpit mechanical exo-suit for Matoran-sized pilots.Fashioned primarily out of parts of gathered Rahkshi corpses (and now there's a real demand for these!), making its metallic alloys - like Rahkshi are - resistant to typical Elemental Magnetism and Iron powers.Powered by batteries which usually must be recharged (generally by solar power, though steam and geothermal generators like those of Ta-Koro can also replenish the batteries) roughly once after a normal-duration fight or long trek.Highly customizable. Suits include two hands, two shoulders, two feet, two elbows, and even two ankles where an enterprising pilot can affix different kinds of weaponry (and we've not even mentioned different paint jobs).Stronger than a Matoran and most Toa. The servo motors operating on full torque are roughly equivalent to the strength of a Kanohi Pakari user.Much more durable than a Matoran and most Toa... remember, this is made from Rahkshi stuff! And those guys are t-o-u-g-h!What the Exo-Matoran isn't: Invincible. Joints of the armor are generally the weakest points, but other critical weaknesses - including the quartz windscreens, which shatter much more easily than the armor around them - abound. These suits are really only one stage past prototype, pushed into mass production before their maturity.Readily available. For the moment (and under Nuparu's discretion), all Exo-Matoran suits belong to Onu-Koro. They will be distributed according to Nuparu's wishes.Unlimited in supply. Only 12 Exo-Matoran have been built so far. Before another can be made, Onu-Koro's engineers must get their hands on five new dead Rahkshi... that've been killed IC by PCs. Get on that Rahkshi Hunter Hype!Unlimited in ability. The Exo-Matoran isn't nearly as fast as its pilot, and sacrifices a lot of classic Matoran agility in favor of brute strength. The pilot loses some peripheral vision... and it can get mighty stuffy in that cockpit! Exo-Matoran also function badly in extreme temperatures.Administrative Logistics! "Okay, okay," you say. "Okay, I got the specs, I know what these things are now. So how do I get my hands on one of these bad boys?" Well, I'll tell you. The answer's pretty simple: to get an Exo-Matoran, talk to Nuparu. He has 12 suits to disperse, and he can disperse them however he may please. Send Geardirector (his player) PMs, approach the Akiri IC, whatever your preference is. If you're lucky enough to land one of the machines, your Exo-Matoran must be posted in your Profiles Topic post as a separate character from the pilot. The required fields for these "special characters" are: Suit Identification Code. This four-digit combination of numbers and letters will be given to you by Geardirector when you get a suit. I have personally sent Geardirector a list of 12 codes, so both he and I will know if you're using a licensed suit, or you've just made one appear from thin air. Obviously that sort of thing won't be tolerated. As/if new suits are built, Geardirector will make new codes and share those with me.Nickname. Actually required for your set of armor... So it'd better be good.Pilot. Specify which character owns and rides in the suit.Weapons customization. The armament (and aesthetic design; again with the paint job!) of an Exo-Matoran falls under the purview of the first player to own it. You can include any/all king-sized melee weapons that your heart desires, but if you want to include an artillery-sized Patero Launcher somewhere too, you can only have one, and it will slow your suit down.A detailed description or image. Ideally, you include previous battle damages in this.Because Exo-Matoran suits exist in the Profiles Topic as characters, they - like their pilots - cannot be damaged without the players' say-so. Any other kind of attack is considered an autohit. If you have any questions about Exo-Matoran suits, here's the time and place to ask them. Happy playing!
  20. Thanks for pointing out the Ko-Koro thing, guys. It's been fixed.
