  1. IC: Von Worten - Royal Blindside Army I cannot explain why, but Kopen's smile made me smile. "You are welcome."
  2. IC: Von Worten - Royal Blindside Army I blinked several more times. Whatever inspiration had come over me just seconds before had vanished, and I suddenly found myself unable to further encourage. "I... I suppose not. I still believe in you... for whatever that's worth." OOC: Interacting with Kopen.
  3. IC: Daedalus Drachoren - Arma Virique "Um, okay," he replied, scanning the area around him. "I guess my ears will come in handy." He looked back at Ten. "You can count on me." He briefly considering adding a "sir" at the end of that, but he dismissed the idea. He wasn't a soldier. No need to act like one. IC: Von Worten - Royal Blindside Army I considered a full response to Kopen's words, but I had the wherewithal to hold back a bit. I wanted to tell her that I trusted the Queen and her judgment, and thus trusted her appointing Kopen as general, but I knew she had misgivings about the Queen and I did not want to give her reason to distrust me or write me off. Instead, I said, "I know nothing of leadership and nothing of the struggles of one in such a position, so I would not assume to understand your feelings. But for whatever it is worth... I trust you and have faith in you. I must confess that when we first embarked on our quest together, I did not particularly like you. However, by the quest's end, I had come to respect you. You... you have experienced a lot, not all of it pleasant, and the fact that you have come through sane and strong... it speaks highly of you. Have faith in yourself." I stopped talking and blinked several times. I did not know where those words came from, and I wasn't sure why I had said them. I just... did. It was, I think, a poor attempt at a motivational speech, which probably did not mean much from a crying woman holding a book. It was odd. OOC: Von Worten interacting with Kopen.
  4. OOC: Mobilé. IC: Daedalus Drachoren - Arma Virique His excellent hearing picked up on his voice being called out, though he could not know that the speaker's frustration was due to Daedalus's nincompoop of a writer being ignorant and forgetful. He moved in the direction of the voice until he found its owner. "Uh, Daedalus reporting in."
  5. IC: Daedalus Drachoren - Arma Virique Having been temporarily forgotten by the one telling his story, Daedalus wandered about the jungle in search of an ally. IC: Von Worten - Royal Blindside Army The desert was uncomfortably hot, and I greatly desired a much cooler climate. The wide open expanse also reminded me of a certain unpleasant place, one that I would rather not think about. I tried to think of my new book, which I had read through once. It was an informative read in regards to mental protection, though the style was stiff and uninteresting. I had been so accustomed to the tales in my other book that I had forgotten such purely informational texts existed. My ruminations were cut short by the sudden appearance of a dragon. I instinctively took a step back before realizing it was an ally. Xaeraz arrived a few seconds later, and they lifted two other members of our team, apparently with the intention of carrying them back to the weapons spawn area. My eyes drifted to Kopen, who stood a little to my right. I had not spoken to her since the round had begun; in fact, I could not remember speaking to her at all since our quest with the Queen. I did not know what to say to her, but I felt like I needed to say something. I approached from her side, wiping away a tear. "General Kopen... uh... how do you fare?" OOC: Daedalus open for interaction, Von Worten speaking to Kopen.
  6. You have my permission. I am sad to see this end, though to be honest, I haven't been putting as much effort into my posts the last couple months as I should have. Perhaps it will be better that it ends on a good note. Anyway, it was an interesting concept and I loved what story was revealed.
  7. IC: Von Worten - Royal Blindside Army (Outside Pyramid Control Room) I heard a voice behind me and half-turned to face the approaching Toa. I could not remember having ever seen him before, but if he was in here, I could only assume he was on my team and thus an ally. "The control room is at the top of these stairs," I replied, drumming my fingers against my book. "General Kopen, her lieutenants, and many others appear to be developing a strategy for the coming battle."
  8. IC: Von Worten - Royal Blindside Army I will not bore you with the details about what occurred immediately after I was transported to the arena, but suffice it to say that my activities involved getting lost in thought, realizing most of the rest of the army had disappeared, and then trying to make my way through the maze of a pyramid to find the control room. My psionic abilities proved beneficial in the latter endeavor, though once I did reach the control room, I was unable to enter. It was already rather full, and in addition to not enjoying being squeezed together with so many other individuals, I could not help but think of the potential hazard such a packed room presented to those inside. Regardless, I took up a position on the stairs, close enough that I could hear some of what was going on inside. I figured they were planning for the upcoming attack, and I secretly wished I would be allowed to remain behind in the control room for support purposes. At the very least, should the worst come to pass, I would be a capable deterrent of any group of attackers storming our control room, as my Ultimate Weapon would serve as a great means of discomfort. It would, I thought, be much easier to use in this somewhat confined environment anyway, and I was certainly more likely to affect ten attackers if they were closer together. At any rate, I remained on the stairs, doing my best to listen to the planning.
  9. We talked a bit among the GMs, just now; although I don't advise you to think of this as something formally confirmed, but we're inching towards "if you really want it, and the GMs think you can handle it, we'll bestow vampirism or lycanthropy on you"-Dovydas So just to clarify: it would not be possible for a character to start with vampirism or lycanthropy. They can only contract either disease through GM approval/intervention/reward. Correct?
  10. I'm going to have to agree with Shadowhawk on this, because despite having played Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim, my knowledge of the lore and all the history is small, despite my love of the overall setting. The whole time I was reading the posts, I kept thinking "Holy Botswana Ankle Monks this is a lot of text!" But at the same time, I loved every word. So yeah, if this gets approved, I will definitely join it. I do have a question, though, and if it was mentioned in either of the posts, I apologize. Will characters be able to become vampires or werewolves, or are those off limits?
  11. IC: Einefus Ingrayv (Ascension) I see the creature charging toward the door. I sidestep and make my first real test of my powers in combat. I flick my hand out and do the same thing I would have before when throwing a fireball, only this time I can feel far more power within me. I hold back somewhat, not wanting to overextend myself and end up hurting my allies (such as they are). The result is a searing fireball twice the size of my first passing through the gap in the door toward the charging Rahi. This should be interesting, at the very least.
  12. I liked the canisters. They were cool and unique and helped Bionicle stand out even more among the other LEGO lines. But ultimately, the way I get the parts doesn't really matter to me. What counts for me is what's inside the container, regardless if said container is plastic, foil, or cardboard. If thin cardboard boxes is the most economical and Earth-friendly option, more power to LEGO for using them. Besides, flimsy though they might be, the shapes of the current Bionicle containers are, at the very least, interesting.
  13. IC: Einefus Ingrayv (Ascension) "Jus' stop, bo' o' yuh," I sigh, shaking my head. "Arguin' ain' gon do an'one any good." I approach what's left of the door and peer out, trying to see the creature beyond. Why has it not attacked yet, or tried to get inside?
  14. IC: Von Worten I nodded at the Queen's dismissal and left the armory and her office. I wanted, at that moment, some time alone to read, but I had not eaten in some time, and I knew that it would be foolish of me to abstain from obtaining sustenance. I traveled to the cafeteria, gathered a random assortment of food, chose a table, and sat. I ate and I read my new book, The Mind Tome. If the Queen needed me, I was sure she would know where I was. OOC: Von Worten open for interaction in the cafeteria.
  15. IC: Von Worten (Armory) I had already begun reading the first few sentences of The Mind Tome when the Queen explained its powers, but I immediately stopped reading at her offer. I turned and looked the Queen full in the face. I founded her offer curious, but only because I had actually been entertaining the notion of offering my services in such a position. Without a moment's thought, I said, "I gladly accept."
  16. OOC: Mobile post. IC: Von Worten (Armory) As I perused the selection of weapons, I noticed an oddity among them. It was a book. Much like the piece of cloth Kopen had chosen, this book seemed out of place among the various weapons. My love of books and simple curiosity drove me to pick the book up. It was simply bound in hard leather, and though it was smaller in size than my book, it weighed about the same. Its front and back covers were blank, though the title, The Mind Tome, was, for lack of a better way to say it, engraved along the spine in simple lettering. My interest was further piqued by the book's possible relation to my element. As I opened the book to look at the first few pages, I asked, "This is a weapon?"
  17. IC: Von Worten (Armory) I followed the Queen to her office and through the portal into the armory. The room's sterility was strangely comforting at the time, though I cannot say why. Perhaps it was because I had been so long accustomed to dark, dingy tunnels that this was simply a nice change of pace. When the rack of Ultimate Weapons appeared, I was, I think I am safe in saying, probably less enamored than most, but my attention was still drawn to the strange assortment of weapons. I moved closer and began to inspect the weapons, trying to find one that would interest me.
  18. IC: Einefus Ingrayv (Ascension) Oh, yeah. Because, you know, I know how to do that with my bare hands. Fire, welding. Piece of cake. I look at my hands and mutter an "Okay."
  19. IC: Einefus Ingrayv (Ascension) At the moment, it seems as good a plan as any. I pull a ridiculously small cigarette from my belt and try to light it, but my usual snap-to-create-a-small-flame lighting method only succeeds in burning the thing to a crisp. I'm going to have to work on that. "Yeah, ah'm ready," I say.
  20. IC: Einefus Ingrayv (Ascension) I swear, I almost feel like I'm watching squabbling children. "If he ain' wan' it, he ain' wan' it," I yawn. "Wha's dis plan o' yuhs?"
  21. I'll just be interested to see what Kopen's reaction will be.
  22. IC: Von Worten (Following the Queen) I still desired a moment of voluntary relaxation, but I also wanted to know what the Queen had to say. I slid carefully off my bed, grabbed my book, and followed the Queen.
  23. IC: Von Worten (Medical Bay) Have you ever experienced those times when, after a long, stressful day or week, you sit or lay down and your mind just feels momentarily empty? You aren't exhausted, really, but your mind just empties itself to be rid of any distractions or work. That is how I felt when my eyes slid open. I felt a blankness behind my eyes that I wanted to revel in for some time. A time to just relax. But I knew that that would have to wait. I sat up and looked around the room, taking in the remaining members of our quest. Xaeraz, whole and new, stood by the door. He looked far better than he had before, and seeing him alive brought a smile to my face. Kopen stood near him, and I was surprised to find that my previous annoyance with her had passed. Ezezko and Albrecht were there, too. I felt brief twinge of sadness that Nocton was dead, though I knew little about him. Lytrel... I can't say I missed him very much. My eyes then settled on the Queen. Maybe it was simply my perception, but she looked different. I cannot specify what was different, only that she was. Despite all that she had done to us, both in bringing us to this tournament and during our quest, I respected her greatly, but even more than that, I wanted, if possible, to help her. I took a deep breath and rested my hand on my book.
  24. Daedalus and Von Worten will be participating. Also, I'll get a Von Worten post up tomorrow morning.
  25. First of all, thanks for taking the time to read the first chapter. Secondly, and in answer to question... well, to be honest, they use trenches because that was the first thing I thought of when imagining combat in a non-urban environment. I didn't really put a whole lot of thought into it. However, seeing your post last night has made me think about it, and I'm not really sure your suggestion is all that feasible. Remember, these are spiders. They may be stupid, but I don't think they are stupid enough to creep through a snall route laid out for them. They'd be climbing the walls, at the very least. Even if the walls are made of ice, I don't see that being too big a deterrent; maybe it's just me, but I imagine those legs also function a bit like claws, and it would be a simple matter of jamming those things into the ice to climb. And besides, I think defending the village proper would--or, at least, should--be the absolute last line of defense (which does make me think that I need to change a few things). And regardless, I'm really only using this battle to jump start the plot. Probably not the best way to go about things, and I'm not trying to make excuses for poorly thought out writing, but even if I was smart enough to write the villagers using better or more realistic tactics, the outcome, essentially, would be the same. Again, I'm not trying to make excuses, because I really didn't think this battle through all that well. Regardless if I think it's important, such idiocies on my part can detract from the overall story, and I'll try to be more mindful of it going forward. Thanks again for your feedback. EDIT: Also, I added "Chapter 1" to the beginning of the post, since I'm slack-brained and I didn't do it when I made the original post. Depending on how lazy I am when I write the other chapters, I may try to incorporate chapter names, but no promises.
