  1. So today I found out that there is a contest going on where we are supposed to make G1-esque characters.

Luckily for me, that's pretty much my MOCing specialty, so I build the most G1 thing I could imagine, which is an overpowered, mean-looking, 4armed giant with a sleek color scheme of lime green, mata red, silver and gray.

Thus I came up with the monstrosity that you see below, and decided that it represents Miserix during his time when he led the brotherhood.

To me the overall humanoid, yet beastial appearance fits perfectly for this character, thus I present to you Miserix, the Dread Lord!

Note: will try to show pics on page not just link gallery, however I am doing all of this from my phone.

EDIT: If anyone has MOc photography tips I'd gladly hear them.

  2. The cross breeder children are taken away and left in the mountains due to their nature for Unrak to devour them, and the parents are bannished as well.

Defeinitely not, but maybe they just pick and chose which village they want to stay in. I like to think the armor they have gives them the elemental residtance rather than their bodies.

  3.

The Toa were revered as spirits that you could say were like gods, in old booklets like the one from the 2001 TGC sets explains that the toa are both loved and feared by them, and that there are many mythologies of the toa, such as when they say it is storming that it is Lewa and Gali's battle. This is pretty interesting.

Does anyone know where to find scans of one of these? Apparently a lot of stuff in them isn't quite canon, but from what I've heard of them, they sound really intriguing.

I'm just picturing Pohatu being horrified to learn that the Matoran thought he was angry with them every time there was a rockslide or cave-in, and Gali having to tell her villagers that no, they don't need to praise her literally every time it rains, sometimes weather happens by itself.

All I've been able to find is this site, which, despite some pretty sketchy translations, does have the full rules of the Quest for Makuta board game, complete with a lot of subsequently retconned information.

    ONUA : the earth Toa

Onua guards the land and intervenes when the equilibrium gets disturbed. The Tohunga believe that Onua causes earthquakes as punishment for the villagers when those do not treat their land well.

    TAHU : the fire Toa

Tahu, the fire ghost, is the eldest of the Toa. He arose when the planet was shaped. This hot-headed Toa lives inside the glowing Mangai volcano, where he surfs the lavastreams.

    LEWA : the air Toa

Lewa, the air ghost, is the youngest Toa. He rules the skies and the clouds, but he detests water. According to Lewa, showers are the result of collisions between Lewa and Gali. Peals of thunder are the sound of their battle.

    GALI : the water Toa

Gali is the only female Toa. Despite her young age, she is very wise. According to the Tohunga, she is the source of life. She is therefore the most worshipped Toa.

    KOPAKA : the ice Toa

The ice ghost Kopaka lives on the windy sides of Mount Ihu. His personality suits his horrible appearance: grim, calculative and cool-blooded in his acting. Even though the Tohunga fear Kopaka, they are grateful for his protection against Tahu’s fire.

    POHATU : the stone Toa

All other Toas have a confidence firm as a rock in the old Pohatu. The Tohunga see him as the ghost present in every rock and stone, who is always watching over them. They do their utmost not to anger him, because Pohatu can punish them with destructive landslides.

Lol they toa were pretty metal originally.

  4. Interesting idea, but considering what we already know about the MU, matoran and their programming this is a highly unlikely occurence in my book.

I do think however that elemental traits can be learned through intense practice/ concentration, like the OoMN did with Detoran mental shield.

  5. Realistically the whole G1 G2 connection stuff can really go both ways at this point. We never realistically got to experience the G1 Vahi used to its full potential or even having that much attention given to it. You'd think a legendary mask could have some more juice than to just mediocrely speed up/down time? Puh-lease.

As for G2, time vision? That sounds tight. I don't see why combining those 2 wouldn't unlock some sort of power that would allow time travel if used user who has the mental capacity for the full on mask control.

Furthermore, I think that there is still an argument that there could be a connection. "Oh but the story team said so and so." Yeah they did, but I also remember several instances when the story team (mainly gf) blaintantly lied to the fanbase to conceal some twists and turns. Sure it's easy to say "i can't discuss" but doesn't lying about it give it that extra juicy hype you would want to see your product line get in order to spike up some sales?

Throw that down the toilette, we could still see Vezon pop in with that yung Olmak infused essence.

Tldr: marvel and dc have crossovers, rebooted and old star trek have crossovers, TMNT and Bat-man had a crossover, so why couldn't Bionicle? It's more likely than no that there's a connection.

Also what better way to increase customer loyalty than introducing them to something old with a lot of lore that is hard to acquire? Kids will eat that up. I mean, that's what the prequel trilogy of Star Wars did to me tbh.

  6. I thought that the Mata were literally named after their elements.. As in:

Tahu means fire, Gali means water, Lewa means air etc.

My thinking was that the prefixes are just there since all elements have them, kinda like how Av stands for Avohkii or Kra for Kraahkan.

It would make sense since they were designed to be the literal incarnations of their elements and the closest thing to come to an elemental lord in their Nuva forms. Even the whole thing with all of them becoming Nuva when they dipped in EP supports this.

You could argue that their mask powers are more or less designed to bring them to closer to being the element lords of the MU but still having some sort of limitations

So Toa Tahu to me literally translates to Fire Hero.

I can probably spit out some more "evidence" of how Toa Mata are in fact designed to be close to the elemental lords if anyone wants to et really into it, but we might need a new topic for that.

  7. Honestly, there's absolutely no reason for that to happen.

Bionicle is one of those weird subcultural phenomenons where the fandom is suuuuupeeerrr into it, but everyone outside might give it a tap on the back then dismiss it.

I used to be / still am a bit into the story but when you take a step back it's pretty darn ridiculous.

If only that Dark Hunter competition never happened, that would have made the BIONICLE universe a lot less complicated...

If only the barraki never happened.
More the Barraki than the DH Contest, because half of the DHs are or can be considered unique mutations or crafted beings. The barraki were seven new beings in a world that already seemed crowded.
How awesome would it have been if the Barraki belonged to (mostly) already established species? Like, Carpar could have belonged to Axonn's, Mantax could have been a female Xian queen, Kalmah could have been a Steltian - leader class, Nocturn a Steltian - slave class, Ehlek should stay a separate underwater species, Takadox could have been a mutated female Toa of Psionics, and Pridak could have been another rogue Toa or Jerbraz's species. Just a thought that would've made the Barraki more interesting, imo. :)
