  1. Honestly, I'd be with you trying to connect the few clues we have, but the fact that they have altered the Mata's personalities so much, reset them to their Mata-lookalikes, given Pohatu control over sand and I guess air/tornados and also made Lewa a Toa of Jungle points that this is in fact a fresh start. Actually, the fact that they gave Lewa Jungle is what convinced me. Now, could you argue that this is some alternate universe? Of course. You could make all sorts of theories, but I don't think there is enough substance to make a story connection between the two. They both share the Toa, Masks, and Makuta, all which was the essence of Bionicle in its inception, but I think that's about it.
  2. Ah, so you agree that this whole discussion is flawed from the get-go. We're talking about something that only exists in-story (you'll notice that it's hard to give a small pile of plastic a gender, so we'll focus on the storyline implications), which happens to include the Great Beings. That's the point I was trying to make. Correct. The Great Beings do not exist. The Toa do not exist. The Matoran do not exist. So what are we even talking about here? We're talking about a story. It's a story about robots who were created by a fictional alien race to save a planet. I feel like you missed the entire point that Bionicle is a series written by humans, for humans. The toys have gender. The characters have gender. The people reading and relating to the characters have gender. The entire point of this topic is just talking about making equitable ratios between genders, which people were posting just fine until some posters made mockeries and stinks over nonbinary identities being included, which is flat out rude. But if you think the story has no relevance, no point, no purpose, no affect or rhyme or reason to exist then why even post on a website, or in a forum, dedicated to it in the first place? I think you're failing to acknowledge the fact that most people in the world identify as either male or female, and I don't think there's much arguing in that, it's fact. Only a minority of people seem to associate themselves with another gender, and this is mostly present in rich "Western" countries, but that's another discussion altogether. Now seeing that the topic starter wanted to make the Toa gender ratios more applicable to human populations. Now, comparing the minority of people that seem to associate with different genders to the amount of people present in the human population (thats around 7 billion now right?). Now let's say there's around 70 million people that don't define themselves as male or female, that is still 1% of the human population. Now how exactly are we supposed to represent that when each Toa carries around 16.667% of the population? Do you see what I'm trying to show you here? Looking at the numbers of the human population, which is what the topic starter wanted to replicate with Toa, it just doesn't make sense to use any "nonbinary" genders. In addition to that, even if the number I gave you is much higher than 1% (I honestly think I made a large overestimate), I doubt that it would climb up to around 17%, so that we need to represent one of the Toa as nonbinary. That was my explanation as to why it doesn't make sense to add a nonbinary member if we wanted to compare the Toa to human populations. ~T1S~ pretty much covered the story-wise reasoning, and I think he expressed it rather clearly. I'd just like to add that there is no evidence whatsoever that the Bionicle universe had such a thing as continous gender. Everything, and all things pointed towards simply 2 genders: male & female. Now onto the marketing/business/$$$ reasoning! Oh boy this is a fun one. Let's start with this: Lego is a company that brings joy to children, but also likes to make money, like every company. I mean, that's why they're created am I not correct? Now, I already went over the fact that most people identify as male/female. I covered in another topic why Lego kept their Toa/characters very (too much imo) male dominant: because boys are/were their target audience. Now whos buying these toys for the kids? The parents of course! Parents raised, mostly, in cultures that don't promote much gender-identity variation, and is seen as something taboo. In short, most parents (that are funding Lego) are probably more or less raised with gender-conservative points of view. So, lets say that a toy is identified as "nonbinary". Little Jimmy comes to mom or dad and asks what's a nonbinary gender. The parents are confused, they don't even know (I mean honestly how many parents do you know that are aware of this continuous gender thing), so they are more inclined to stop buying the product. tl:dr making bold "social justice" moves doesn't make a lot of money. I think that's all I had to get off my chest? Yup, bout sums it up.
  3. Hi there! Every now and then I like starting some, what I like to call, thought-provoking topics, that may or may not get dismissed easily. This is one of them. In this edition, I raise a question regarding the Bahrag: What do you think eould happen if they died? Would the Bohrok run wild, or would some other agent take control? Would a Bohrok undergo some kind of transformation, or would maybe a Toa of Light transform into a new "queen"? Would they simply respawn by the Red Star? What if their "brain was damaged? I honestly am not sure what to think about this, I feel like the Bohrok would simply run wild like Rahkshi if this happened while they were awake, and maybe that a Bohrok Kal would somehow transform into a new queen..? Please, discuss.
  4. Nope. Imagine 2003 Takanuva with grey instead of gold. Botar is supposed to be even bigger? I doubt that.. Where'd you get that from? If anything I see him as smaller, maybe like taller than Brutaka by 2 heads or so.
  5. Why not both for each? The topic states to divide up the tribes, hence that is what I did. Light/Shadow are kept bi-gender in my book since they appear that way in story, and for some reason that makes sense to me as we have seen characters of both primary genders in those tribes (if you can call Shadow Matoran a tribe lol). I'd obviously prefer it mixed, with dominances (70/30), and keep my choices gender dominant as stated above.
  6. Has anyone thought that maybe the Gold Mask of Skull Spiders might be a "corrupted" version if the Mask of Control? I mean it controls all these creatures and their powers that are again masks, so could it be?
  7. Letsss see here.... - The rest of Chronicler's Company is destined to become Toa - Midak is an Avtoran - Balta, Defilak, Dalu, Sarda and Idris will make a Toa team one day - Ahkomu is also destined - Mata Nui never got reabsorbed into Ignika, rather he got absorbed into Spherus Magna and can only observe events that take place from a sort of "astral plane" - Krika is alive somewhere - Romance is slowly becoming a thing in Matoran culture due to their sapience evolution - Tribes are gender dominant (70/30) - Vultraz comes back to prime universe - Red Star is just a jetpack filled with Kestora operationg it - Gaardus isn't a thing
  8. If anyone wants to assign genders to the rest of the elements, here's what I'd have... Male: Fire, Stone, Iron, Gravity, Ice, Air, Lightning Female: Plasma, Water, Plantlife, Magnestism, Sonic, Earth, Psionics Both: Light, Shadow I have reasoning for all of them, but too lazy to type so I'll edit later.
  9. Not bad! Avereged $9 per set:) Congrats on your army again! Makuta would be proud.
  10. The GSR was in G1 when many characters were nanotech, the characters in this verse don't look like they are nanotech. Well Protectors don't anyways. I don't see how any of the original characters looked like nanotech, much less how the newer characters for the reboot would look less like it than their predecessors. Given that it was an enormous storyline reveal that the characters were actually nanotech, I think it's safe to say that the sets were not designed to look like that at all. ~B~ Bohrok sure looked Nanotech to me... If youd count them as "original characters"
  11. I have a simple solution: the area of Voya Nui wasn't welded onto the robot as well as the rest of the land.
  12. I agree with this. Also Onua reminds me of Gimli for some reason. A large Gimli, so yeah basically medieval culture.
  13. My god man, these are amazing! Headcanon here, for sure! Also that Rahkshi of Insect Control looks mighty amazing! Love the colors for the Rahkshi of Rahi Control too, good choice of spraypaint! If you don't mind me asking, how much did this entire project end up draining your wallet?
  14. don't see why we should have to, when there's more genders than that.Arc, I'm very... Simple, when it comes to gender. I know that theres male female, I recognize when people are trans and stuff, but I have NO clue what nonbinary means or why it would fit into this topic when the topic starter simple wanted to keep it male female, and make it more similar to the human pop. Don't bother trying to explain to me what it is, as I am looking it up right now, but I still don't find it necessary in this type of topic. Also, stereotypes exist for a reason people, of course they aren't completely inclusive but they wouldn't be there if there wasn't some truth to it so I think it'd be okay if we all accepted that that's how most people will assign genders in this topic. If anyone disagree with this, and I'm sure at least 5 of you do, don't expect a response from me as this is my last post regarding this subject on this forum. I'll probably assign genders to the rest of the elements later, and that's about it. G'day.
  15. Oh boy gender topic... Can we please keep it simple M/F? Lol. Id have to go with Le and Ko as female, cuz Ice Queen stereotype, as well as the nature loving female stereotype as well. If we include the other elements, well I'd have to give it some thought.
  16. I had a theory like that.^ There was an original species that eventually split into the Agori and Glatorian (Skrall later split from Glatorian but thats a tale for another day ), and what remained of the original special species became known as the Great Beings.
  17. This is super neat! I really dig it. As for the final mask, I say go for the Olmak.
  18. Honestly, this is awesome, the Matoran does a good job to break the color scheme, but the cat is amazing. Reminds me of Toothless (is that the name?) from How to Train Your Dragon, and I've officially accepted this in my head as a Shallow Cat from Daxia, since it matches the description.
  19. 4, if not less. So i went with 3 -- theres bound to be 3 cool stories among the entries
  20. Also the polls are getting closer and closer now haha Oh man.
  21. So whats the call on this? Closed, submit to GF?
  22. It was all due to a stupid typo in the book too... But yes, all male is true. :/
  23. I mean, I'm just going off the logic that was offered when this was established. It makes sense also.
  24. *Earth time: 3 years in future* "And that is how our dear Toa Masters, defeated the Great Evil! Now join me friends, as we make history that is Bionicle!" -Vakama *Agori and Matoran fortify Tesara to defend it from an oncoming Skrall rampage* *Earth time: the Gen1 serials continue* There you have it folks, Okoto is a made up story told by Vakama before a Skall battle.
