  1. Thats's a pretty cool take on Settlers of Catan, which I also happen to adore. My only criticism would be the card implementation of the Toa Heroes (Knight cards), which essentially allows you to invoke the thief (i.e. Makuta, who is the arch-antagonist) to steal from other player(s). Something about using the heroes for an ignoble cause doesn't sit too well with me, but that's just me being super pedantic On the whole, I think you've done a tremendous job on this board, and the artwork all looks superb! If I didn't already have a copy of Settlers of Catan I'd definitely get this one printed!
  2. Glad you like those! They were challenging to figure out, especially considering the fact that I had very brief glances at similar source material. I think it's a combination of the collar and the mask that gives these vibes off. I thought this MOC had them too tbh. I even debated doing a 180 with the concept and going full-steam ahead with a sorceror build instead of an Admiral.
  3. You flatter me! I just look at the reference item and try to match its shaping and proportions on my character. The fact that LEGO has several fabric parts in different colours and shapes also helps a lot. There's no avoiding a large amount of trial and error until you get it right, though.
  4. Admiral Jaldamir Admiral Jaldamir by Mohamed Marei, on Flickr "A noble and valiant commander whose sole purpose is to bring to justice anyone who dares to stand against the crown. Has a long-standing enmity towards criminals who fare the seas, especially Pirate Lord Dreadwind and his band of miscreants". Admiral Jaldamir by Mohamed Marei, on Flickr A reimagining of an old character I had built way back in 2015. Since the moment I lay eyes on the kanohi Iden I've always pictured it belonging to an elegant, gentlemanly-looking character. And I felt the same way about those Praetorian Guard cloth skitrts; as soon as I saw them, I knew I had to build a redcoat-wearing character. Revamping Jaldamir gave me the answer. Safe to say I managed to pull this aesthetic off? I'll let you all be the judge of that!
  5. "A noble warrior who serves The Lightbringer, with unwavering dedication and resolve. Never one to shy away from battle, this fearless soldier has faced tremendous foes, and has always emerged victorious". Santriel - Seraphic Soldier by Mohamed Marei, on Flickr A slightly different build this time, which uses primarily #system pieces as well as the occasional Bionicle armor parts for shaping. Do let me know what you think!
  6. @MoarBotar @Master Inika yeah the ceremonial armor vibes are a bit interspersed within the original design motif of wanting to create OTT Gladiator-like armor. I guess it's a good thing that you guys perceive it in this way. I was originally trying to give him some sort of Katana battle skirt but that proved a bit tricky with the shaping I had going on. I might look into revisiting the whole MOC again at some point, and hopefully augmenting these aspects in the next version. Thanks for all your comments!
  7. Thanks! The BioCup is usually held over summer; it starts mid-to-late June of each year, judging by the last couple years.
  8. My favourite Glatorian reimagined more prominently as a gladiator, with some asymmetry throughout. Wanted to keep the clever horns used on the shoulder armour on one side, which necessitated that the arms be different. Started this in late November of last year and only managed to finish it around last July, off the back of my unceremonious BioCup R1 crash-out. Tarix Revamp by Mohamed Marei, on Flickr More MOCs coming soon(ish)?)!
  9. Thank you! This build was an attempt at closure; I had started a massive pirate WIP in 2015 which I never got around to completing, until I decided to have a go at it again earlier last month. It's definitely a good idea to try and rework an old concept with a fresh pair of eyes (and a whole bunch of new parts)! The most rewarding aspect for me was managing to incorporate so many new elements within the confines of the original concept, in addition to refining the aesthetic a considerable bit. I look forward to your revamp and if you have any questions or want some feedback on your build, feel free to drop me a message!
  10. Pirate Lord Dreadwind by Mohamed Marei, on Flickr "Prepare for the plundering of yer lifetime, ye wee scallywags!" <Additional Photo> Started this fella around the start of October with the intention to have him ready for #halloween, but decided to post it sooner cause I'll be busy next weekend.
  11. Bones of the Risen - BioCup 2019 Preliminary Round by Mohamed Marei, on Flickr "What does it take to awaken a beast so foul that mankind cowers at the thought of its return? The crown of a fallen king; the skull of a traitor; the robes of a pious monk; the visage of a terrible foe; and the blood of a youthful soul." Built for the #BioCup2019 Preliminary Round, whose theme was "Scary Monsters". Haven't had this much time building in ages! Really enjoyed this round's theme and can't wait to find out what the other rounds have store for us (or anyone else who makes it onwards)!
  12. I also wanted to inquire about that rule. Do the MOCs have to be sent out to Brickfair if they make it past the preliminary voting to be considered? I'm based in the UK so for practicality reasons this might not even be possible for me.
  13. Appreciated! I quite like how it turned out myself, especially with the colour balancing. I received several remarks about the scarab, so I'm glad it was relatively easily conveyed
  14. Pharaoh's Breastplate - Brick Badge Contest Entry by Mohamed Marei, on Flickr Pharaoh's Breastplate - Brick Badge Contest Entry by Mohamed Marei, on Flickr Inspired by one of the treasures of King Tutenkhamen , I wanted to create a name badge which was unique and celebrated my Egyptian heritage and culture. Having built several Egyptian-themed MOCs over the years (and being the only Egyptian MOCist - as far as I'm aware) I wanted my name badge to be unmistakably Pharaonic, embellished with gold and bright translucent colors aplenty. I took massive inspiration from this photo, with no intention to replicate the design fully. Having never attended a convention, I used the red 1x8 smooth plate as a stand-in for a badge. Hope this is alright, rules-wise! Hope you guys enjoy this quick build, which was whipped up over the course of Sunday afternoon. Stay tuned for more #content coming soon!
  15. Yeah, I was thinking of cuffed boots I think.
  16. I love the fact that you gave him edited-on eyes! You've successfully escaped one of the biggest limitations in LDD- the lack of appropriate decals for things like eyes or tiny facial details. The hands are really creative, too. And I also really dig how you did the hemmed boots (I don't know what else to call them). Very solid build and shaping as usual. Great stuff
  17. Would have loved to see this guy with the Pohatu Uniter mask instead. Also, I wish you'd done something different about the hip joint, connecting it using some other piece rather than the axle extender. Regardless, it's a pretty decent MOC.
  18. I think that's just perspective. Looking closely, they seem to be the exact same piece. What I was referring to was the scale of the shoulders - upper arms - forearms, compared to everything else. Look at the reference images here. You can see that the bulk of the upper arms is relatively small and narrow compared to the shoulder pads. Excessively bulking up the biceps does not preserve that shaping and consequently messes up with the proportions of the arms in general. If the character proportions were to be preserved, firstly compared to those of a minifig and then to those of Reinhardt compared to the standard minifig, you'll find that you would need to shorten Reinhardt a fair bit to get them to work.
  19. I definitely prefer your hammer design, but I'm not too sure about everything else I'm afraid. The shoulderpads are looking tiny compared to how they look on him in the game and other reference material. If you had shrunk him slightly overall I feel that would have worked better. I do like your attention to some of the details (like the studs on his knees etc). Overall, not bad but I can see it looking even better.
  20. Not too sure about the fingers on this MOC but everything else is spooktacular! Which set is the face from again?
  21. They can have more, just as long as they don't have eight. It can be as transforming and as mech as you'd like, just as long as it is a spider. So if it's a spider-mech that transforms into something which isn't quite a spider, would that count? Because technically it does adhere to the theme in only one of its states. I'm asking because you said something like a Drider (which is, essentially, a human-spider hybrid) isn't allowed. I know I'm being a bit more inquisitive than perhaps necessary, but better safe than sorry XD Thanks for your patience, Tufi
  22. Pretty cool theme, but just to make sure I'm not barking up the wrong tree, would a transforming spider-mech count? Already made a start on my entry, but it wouldn't be too hard to change to fit the theme better
  23. This has some interesting things going for it, particularly the color scheme. I also like how his head has a Fez of some sort? Though I do have to say that this Rahkshi head on humanoids has gotten a wee bit old (well, at least for me). I would try to experiment with some more "unique" head designs. That is not to dismiss your design though - it is your Self-MOC after all Also, cool gizmo in his left hand - is it meant to resemble a sonic screwdriver?
  24. These are all great, hearkening back to one of my favorite ever themes (perhaps second only to Bionicle itself). If I were to make some critiques, however, I would have to say the following: 1- Iron Condor looks epic, but I feel it needs the cockpit from the original set. 2- Blade Titan has quite a lot black, which kinda dulls down its aesthetic. I also think the Trans-Neon Yellow doesn't really go too well with the Dark Red. 3- Sky Guardian is my favorite of the bunch. Having said that I do think it could have turned out better with the addition of some more detail to the arms and a whole lot more "pizzazz" to the back (think more thrusters, concealed weaponry, heck even a deployable drone similar to the ones in the Jungle line). All in all, though, great few MOCs you got there. Keep it up; I'm excited to see what you come up with next!
