  1. Ooh, I have a long list...but I'll just go into a few now. The Garai opened up the possibility of masks for the various elements, so I'd quite like to have seen, say, a Toa of Water using a Mask of Air to control storms on their own. Could make characters a little OP, but maybe there could be a conceit that purely elemental masks are harder to make yadda yadda yadda.A Mask of Binding, like Nidhiki/Krekka seem to be able to do. Just creating an energy net would be a useful mask power.A Mask of Petrification, or something to that effect. It's just a trope I like in other media too.A Mask of Dreaming. So a being could enter a sleeping mind and perform the plot of Inception. Would be really useful for the Dark Hunters to be able to steal info or plant ideas this way, though I'd imagine a mask like this would take a lot of practice and skill to use effectively.
  2. Woah, I love the curves on that face! It's such a unique look.
  3. An M-Tron BIONICLE? Awesome! I love how you've integrated the G2 parts with some of the older neon-green parts, like the teeth.
  4. That looks awesome! Any chance of a Jerec on the horizon?
  5. I've always thought Bionicle (G1, that is) had a lot of potential to break away from the toys into a wider franchise, if it were free of Lego's needs (I don't mean that as a bad thing, I just mean that Lego has a specific set of uses for any of their themes and IPs, and ultimately Bionicle will only serve those aims while under Lego's ownership). I think it has the same potential as franchises like Transformers, though obviously that would also possibly mean taking a hit to its integrity...also like Transformers (looking at you, Bayverse). A while ago, I gave a bit of thought to what might have happened if Bionicle's comic rights had stayed with DC, and honestly came to the conclusion that a comic continuity is probably the best place for Bionicle outside of realm of toys. It's a very visually vibrant saga, and with a few alterations, a G1-retold comic series could actually be something pretty stunning. Just look at what BOOM! Studios is currently doing with Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers; the source material is arguably clunkier than Bionicle, but the comic series has been growing deeper and becoming more thoughtful whilst remaining faithful to the spirit, tone, and characters established in the show. Off the back of this, I feel like in terms of story alone, it wouldn't be too hard to take the same approach to a Bionicle series. But, in my limited opinion (because I only have a limited understanding of what Lego's motivations might be, and what would be involved in selling the rights, etc) I think it's unlikely that we will see anything of Bionicle for a while. G2 was a failure (in my opinion, its marketing and story were so poorly thought out that it almost, almost deserved to fail) and I think it's unlikely that Lego would take a risk on the franchise for a while. After all, toy stores are going to remember not selling Bionicles, and won't want to stock them. In turn, I think comic publishers would be hesitant to buy something that's sort of tainted like Bionicle is now (financially). Just my two cents. I could be wrong, but as far as Bionicle's story/engagement potential goes, I think I'm right. I've probably said all this in a really hamfisted way, too, so sorry about that.
  6. Not often you see MOCs based on mythology - this is awesome!
  7. I like the centre one most; reminds me most of Gali's original colour scheme.
  8. Great start; I think you need to take more time to model/texture your locations though, especially with stuff like the Lehvak's introduction.
  9. Very threatening-looking, love the lighting in particular.
  10. Woah, that's beautiful! The spectral effect is excellent.
  11. This is awesome! looking forward to seeing how this unfolds. I'd love to offer some help but as far as game development goes, I think the only use I'd be is in the writing department, or editing cutscenes. If you're looking for voice actors though, I know a lot of really great amateur VAs who might be interested.
  12. Great start, here! Got a few bits of feedback for ya. Your animation is turning out well, but there are a couple of things you need to work on. The first is the fluidity of movement, i.e. making sure that the next frame you take is the natural step from the last. It's super-important with stuff like camera movement to make sure that the camera (or set) is moving in a straight line/curve, otherwise it comes out juddery, like yours has. The second is easing, which is something that's too complex for me to leave in a youtube comment, so lookup a guy called Fancy Pants. He's got a great tutorial on it, and it'll really help bring your animation up. Don't worry though, both the things I've mentioned are things i still really struggle with. you're off to a great start. The other thing is sound. You didn't have any, aside from the music, which started late and was quite jarring. Even if you only practice with the MNOG soundboard for now (which is all on Biomedia Project), it's important to learn how to use sound to enhance your visuals and really bring the viewer in. And as far as sets go, you did a great job with System pieces, but I'd advise trying to use non-Lego materials to make bigger sets, and then using Lego elements for details. Bionicles are big, and you want to make sure they're not then packed into tiny locations because of piece limitations. Even if it's just decorated cardboard, I'd suggest giving this a go. I've subscribed, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you do next!
  13. Thank you so much for providing these!
  14. Hey guys! Wish I'd seen this thread a few days ago, but I'm not really active in the Bionicle community anymore. I actually work for Bright Bricks, started over the summer, as a multi-media coordinator, and I saw this being built. It was kind of staggering just how much work actually went into it, and it was a tight secret too, right up until last Wednesday when Land Rover revealed it. I have a few facts here: Total number of bricks: 5,805,846Total weight of bricks: over 14 tonnesTotal height 13+ metresTotal length: 40+ metresNo. of builders: up to 24 at one pointMan hours: just over 12,000 I didn't have a hand in the building of it myself, but I did produce a short stop-motion animation about the project. I believe the smaller model that I used in the animation was actually also intended for the client, and as such I was a bit limited when animating it being built, since I couldn't really take it apart! But I think I did okay nonetheless. Fun fact: every minifigure in this animation (save for the construction crew and the photographers) are all based on real Bright Bricks builders! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UThdu9KBCbQ I'm currently editing together a time-lapse for the model stag that was placed at the side of the bridge, should be up this weekend. As a side-note, I never got to see the X-Wing for myself but I'm sure it was very impressive.
  15. I'd love for G3 to be what I though G2 was going to be: a spiritual successor to G1, taking the tone and core elements of Bionicle but actually being a new story, and using a different real-world ancient culture as visual inspiration (switching Oceanic for Mesoamerican, based on the first images that leaked of G2). As great as a continuation of G1 would be, a new universe to explore would be more viable for LEGO and just as much fun for old and new fans. For me, the best thing about early Bionicle, that got me hooked on the rest of the story, was the mystery aspect, of having to learn with the characters what this world actually was, and how it functioned, and I think applying that 'unravelling' approach to a new story would be great. What if a new MNOG-style story introduced us to G3, but the POV protagonist was actually, we later learned, a G1 character who had lost their memories? I saw someone mention Beast Wars: what's to say the G3 Toa couldn't be Rahi-based rather than element-based? Could be an interest twist on the format. Hero Factory tried it (I didn't follow it much so I don't know how successful it was) and so has Power Rangers, several times, so why not Bionicle? It'd be easy to attach the characteristics previously attributed to the six primary elements to six different Rahi totems for the Toa to draw their power from, and could make for some awesome sets. Also: multiverse. Just saying. The idea was loosely introduced in G1, and I'd for love G3 to include a hint, subtle or otherwise, that it was canonically possible for the two stories to interact. Even if it never happened officially, confirming the possibility would be enough for me.
  16. I personally don't want Gens 1 and 2 to be connected canonically (I don't like G2's story, hate all you want) but story-wise, I could see the Vahi being used to establish a connection. It would make a whole lot of sense too, and would make a good further tether to a potential G3. However, as has been said before, LEGO doesn't need to establish a story connection between generations. As far as I and many others are concerned, the two Gens are just unconnected stories bearing the same name.
  17. Ooh, I remember thinking that too. I had a lot of misconceptions when I was younger. I came to BIONICLE at the end of 2002,and for a the best part of a year afterwards, I missed out on all the imagery of the Toa assembling themselves. Because of that, I thought they were just humans in armour, and that this was all set in some ancient version of Polynesia.I thought the Bahrag were super-advanced Bohrok themselves.Must sound dumb, but I didn't make the connection between Ahkmou and the Shadow Plague ball salesman for years. Thoguht they were two separate Matoran.I also thought the Bordahk in the back of the 2004 poster was a new, non-Vahki villain for ages. It also took me a while to realise that their eyes were the trans bits that stuck over from the back of the head, rather than the lines on the main head piece.I thought the guy in the 2009 poster, on Bara Magna, was Matoro. Pretty disappointed it turned out to be Mata nui.The stuff about the different layers of ocean and Karda Nui being under Voya Nui (which was on the same sea as Mata Nui, above Metru Nui) confused me, so when the Mata Nui robot arose I didn't get that the Matoran Universe was inside it. I even wrote a piece of fanfiction where the robot (controlled by Makuta at the time) is destroyed, and the wreckage falls into Ga-Metru bay.I thought the Great Beings were biomechanical too, though based on pretty much everything we knew about them until the serials, this was a fair assumption. I also thought they had powers of their own, reality-bending abilities that let them create stuff like the Mask of Life (think Franklin Richards level powers), but this was debunked fairly quickly. For ages, I thought Matoran and Toa of any given element could be either gender. I also thought any Matoran could become a Toa of Light if they put on the mask. When Vladek from Knights' Kingdom turned up with a new helmet in 2005, I thought it was a Kanohi mask, and that they were gearing up for a Knights' Kingdom/BIONICLE crossover, which would have been amazing. Someone on BZP actually did a really cool crossover comic around this time that I've never been able to find since (if anyone has a link, please forward it to me).I thought the Bohrok Kal had a new set of elements rather than just powers...and it turns out, with the exception of vacuum, I was later proven right. The only difference is that I thought the Toa Nuva were going to 'upgrade' to these different elements, which they didn't.Also in 2003, the Bohrok Kal came with these leaflet things that had a teaser picture of the Rahkshi springing out from a bright white light and flanked by the Masks of Light and Shadow. The picture was small and I couldn't make out the details properly, and I thought these were the next iterations of the Toa Nuva, some kind of more angelic form. I was right about the black mask being Makuta but I thought the gold mask was Mata Nui himself. Wrong. It was years before I realised a Kraata powered a Rahkshi. I thought the Kraata were just a projectile weapon and the Rahkshi itself was just...a Rahkshi. Wrong. When I'd just seen a glance of the set picture, I thought Nocturn was a mutated hybrid of Takadox and Carapar. Again, wrong. That's all I can think of right now, but I'm 110% sure there was more. While an avid fan, my theories were almost always off the mark, either a little bit or completely, though that never really detracted from play value. I think the most disappointing debunked theory was that there would be a connection between Gen 1 and Gen 2 besides some dead-end easter eggs. How wrong I was.
  18. That...wow. It's like the BIONICLE equivalent of a Thomas Kincaid painting; so much heart and warmth to such a snowy scene.
  19. Wow, thanks for the detailed lowdown guys, that's given me a far better grasp of the situation here. Swert and Kraahlix, thanks for pointing me to that page, I will go ahead and make cases for the pages in question in the next few days. I also definitely agree with some kind of non-canon/semi-canon warning going onto the pages; I don't know if the '01 Matoran whose names were never fully canonised are also subject to such warnings but I think this distinction could be a useful tool especially in cases like these where it's become a grey area. If this could also for the Thousand Years Untold contest, I would be down for suggesting those on the Articles for Creation page too. As I said, it will be a few days before I can submit, as I have a fair amount of work I need to do, but if these pages are approved I am all for helping actually create and maintain them myself if needs be. Thanks agains for your input everyone. I'm not as active within the community as I used to be so I really appreciate your help in creating a solid picture of what's going on, it's really helped not just regarding this matter but in giving me a snapshot of the workings of the community too. I hope to be a larger part of it again in the future.
  20. Is there a more direct way of getting in touch with them? What course of action would you suggest? I would really appreciate any help in bringing more attention and discussion to this matter.
  21. I can post it on BS01 as well (though I'm not aware of exactly where on the site to post it) but since the contest was a BZPower contest, I think it is equally appropriate here. You could go to the Talk of the Main Page and create a sub-section there to discuss the topic. I did so a few days ago. Thanks for the pointer. Still, while I appreciate that you guys have pointed me in the right direction, I feel we might have gone off-track. Whether it's here or on BS01 (or both, as it now is) I feel like we should discuss this more. It's only fair to the people who won the contest.
  22. I can post it on BS01 as well (though I'm not aware of exactly where on the site to post it) but since the contest was a BZPower contest, I think it is equally appropriate here.
  23. But as far as I can tell, that conversation that I have quoted is Greg giving permission for others to go through and approve the winning stories on his behalf.
