  1. Based on my personal childhood experience, I'm gonna have to go with the Toa Hordika by a longshot. I was taking my first steps to outgrowing Bionicle by the time these came out, so I bought it not exactly knowing what to expect, but hey, Vakama looks cool like this so why not, right? I get that they're supposed to be mutated, and the masks and weapons look awesome. But after getting such amazing articulated arm pieces in 2004, I always I thought it was lame that one arm was just a 2001 Toa arm. And I didn't like that the right arm had a gear function that swings from the elbow. Who swings a weapon from just their elbow anyway?
  2. 5/5 I see you all the time around these parts.
  3. All of your golden opportunities to play that happen *within* the two months that you're learning it, and they've all passed by the time you actually learn it. I wish I was a Spartan from Halo.
  4. I definitely see what you were going for, and I honestly love the backstory and concept you came up with (Humans transforming into Bionicle has been done before, but I like this, especially since it's a woman turning into a reincarnation of a male hero). But there's a lot of room for improvement. First, I'll get the best parts out of the way. I personally actually love the feet. They have this sort of this 90s/early 2000s anime rollerblade feel to them (where the person wearing them would be small and skinny, but the boots are massive), which I really like, and I assume is what you were trying to go for. Secondly, I might just be biased since I myself MOCed from '02-'05, but I like how this has a classic G1 feel to it. But the girl is supposed to have turned into G2 Pohatu, right? Since you said you hate G2, I'm gonna guess you simply don't own G2 Pohatu, so I commend how you worked with what you had and tried to blend G2's gimmick/character into G1's look. If you do, I probably would've at least used his mask instead of the G1 Kakama. If she's supposed to be G1 Pohatu (with G2 weapons for some reason), then ignore this. But the body needs improvement, especially from a plain frontal view. I get that you were trying to go for a slim feminine build, but the upper body proportions are off to me. I think it's the shoulders. I get what you were trying to go for, but personally I'd make them wider and further apart from each other than they currently are. If you could just do that, I think that alone could go a long way. I'm inspired to come up with something similar. Maybe a guy from this same universe turns into a genderbent Gali?
  5. They're made of cheaper plastic now, so after all your effort of putting it together, it shatters to pieces because you left the window to your room open and the wind was a little too strong. I wish I was at a fun anime convention right now.
  6. This is something I could actually see a kid liking. I'm seriously impressed here; you made an entire Lego playset involving the rider going inside the vehicle, and the only noticeable System bits are on the rider rather than the ship. And the carbonite Han with the hands sticking out is just gold. Also, as a childhood fan of the early 2000s Lego Star Wars sets (and an owner of an old school Boba minifig), seeing your Boba in the classic minifig colors is a nice touch and brings me back. Loving the homage. Most impressive.
  7. Yar har, fiddle dee dee, Being a Gokaiger's alright with me! Do what you want 'cause a Gokaiger's free! You are a ranger!
  8. Twin villages, twin symbols that are different colors but still both Earth tones.
  9. Well...this is gonna be long. The short version: BZPower was my first forum, and a huge part of my childhood. It was my first real experience in having online friends and an online community. The long version: Way bak in 2003, when I was a wee little lad of 8, I found this site because someone on the LEGO forums would always sign his posts with: "P.S. Takea, Member of BZPower" At first I thought it was a little cryptic, but I was craving me some more Bionicle, so I googled "BZPower" and found the single biggest Bionicle site ever. It introduced me to a lot of things about internet culture: A forum made for fans by fans, Sprite Comics, memes (before the term "meme" was really used around these parts, and they were all specifically BZP-exclusive inside jokes), and this site also introduced me to Linkin Park, the first real band I ever followed. Back in those days, the funniest comedies were Bionicle Coffee Shop (the origin of "Cuppa Joe") and the infamous sprite comic, Tales of the Chibi Toa ("BURN STUFF!"). To my little 8-year-old mind, those were the pinnacle of comedy. My dad even once lectured me about why yelling "BURN STUFF!" in a place that actually has people in it isn't the best idea. I think Tales of the Chibi Toa might have even been my first sprite comic ever. I didn't share my own MOCs, but I did get a lot of inspirations from this site, and I still found ways to share my very first original character on this site: Hakura, Toa of Plasma. Well, he wasn't a Plasma Toa yet, he was a Ta-Matoran-turned-Toa of Fire (later retconned as a Plasma Toa due to his color scheme), but with a red, black, and white color scheme for reasons I can't recall. I remember being so proud of myself when I got him his first guest star role in some comedy. I believe it had to do with Lewa running a talk show, and Hakura was a Ta-Matoran who ran a movie studio. This was also the golden age of Toonami, and I specifically remember every other person having anime-related avatars and banners. As a Toonami fan myself but not knowing any anime forums, BZPower made me feel like both a part of the Bionicle fan community and the anime fan community at the same time. I really learned how big this site was with Lego and Bionicle fans when I went to a Lego store once. This was late 2003-early 2004 and one of the employees was demonstrating the then-upcoming Toa Vakama set. He gave away free Poisoned Hau Nuvas to people who watched his demonstration, and I knew that BZP had a similar giveaway deal around the same time. I told the guy "this Bionicle site BZPower is giving these away too". He told me "Oh yeah? I know Rich from BZPower!" Rich AKA Bionicle Rex AKA "Rexy" was one of the admins from back in that day, and I was like "whoa...I met one of Rexy's real friends! Is BZPower really that big?" From 2003 to 2005, this was my single favorite site, and thank you all for making it a huge part of my childhood.
  10. Brown text that indicates that you like Pohatu, Broken Sword, and write stories.
  11. That symbol reminds me of the Autobot Matrix. Fitting since there's an Optimus Prime reference there too. On a slightly off-topic note, you best get to watching Shinkenger then.
  12. I hate Ninninger's mecha design with a burning passion. It's just a guy in a chair with limbs. I like the Ninninger's suit designs themselves, as busy and over-the-top as they are (yes, even StarNinger with his cowboy hat and poncho), but I hate the mecha. I'm not huge on Power Rangers either, but whenever I do watch anything Power Rangers-related, I love to play "Spot the Sentai Footage".
  13. Power Rangers RPM was originally going to be the last Power Rangers series, so it's believed that since Toei no longer felt the need to limit themselves around Power Rangers, they made the next Super Sentai series, Samurai Sentai Shinkenger, as Japanese as humanly possible. They follow archaic Japanese traditions in the modern day, they're powered by magic calligraphy, all the imagery is super Japanese, and the sixth Ranger is a sushi chef whose morpher and weapon are sushi-themed. Then Saban bought Power Rangers back and decided to adapt it. But they felt that some of the themes were too Japanese (...because you can't make a show about samurai too Japanese, right?), so they changed the Megazord cockpit (originally a kabuki-esque changing screen with calligraphy) into a generic sci-fi robot cockpit. They also gave the Samurai Rangers two new transformations (Mega Mode and Shogun Mode) which weren't in Shinkenger, just to sell more toys. The original concept for Power Rangers Samurai, written by former Power Rangers writer Amit Bhaumik, was much more than just a Shinkenger copy. It called for a Japanese-American Red Ranger, the other four were originally international (Blue was Nigerian, Pink was British, Green was Mexican, Yellow was Austrian, but they were all descended from Japanese samurai), and the rival character (Juzo in Super Sentai, Deker in Power Rangers) was originally the Red Ranger's best friend who became sort of an interim leader for the bad guy clan until they could resurrect their real leader.
  14. Any other fans here? I'm no expert, but I love Super Sentai. I casually watched Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue and Ninja Storm as a kid, then lost all interest. Watched Shinkenger when I was in high school and loved it. Seen the 2017 movie and thought it was fun. Read some of the Boom Studios comic (love it so far). Finished Kyoryuger recently and am in the middle of Hurricanger. Dabbled in Zyuranger, Dairanger, and Gekiranger (all of which I plan to finish after Hurricanger). Interested in Liveman.
  15. Beautiful. I easily get the feel that this is a major update of her Mask of Light character model with the muscles and the overall shapes of the armor. But what got my attention was actually the mask. With the grey/silver human lips and the shape of the eyeholes and mask itself, I'm reminded of X1 Mask from Hikari Sentai Maskman.
  16. Tekken 7 is solid. The story mode was disappointing (though it had its cool moments), and the customization is NOT up to its predecessor's standards, but I'm still having a good time. I believe the first DLC pack/patch will have more costume parts, so I'll definitely be looking forward to that.
  17. Let's talk about Samurai Jack. I'm a little bit of a history buff with Japanese history, so one thing that slightly gets me is that they refer to Jack's father as "The Emperor". The Japanese Emperor would never have been a samurai, and the actual Imperial seal looks nothing like Jack's clan symbol, so I would've instead made him a high-ranking daimyo (so that he could still be a samurai). The square-with-lines-inside-the-circle symbol would simply be their clan crest (like the Hojo clan's Triforce, or the Takeda clan's four-diamonds-that-form-one-big-diamond). But that's just a nitpick that ultimately has no real bearing on the story, so here's what I really came here to post. Major Samurai Jack finale spoilers:
  18. The great thing is that these would not look out of place in MNOLG or the Bohrok animations. They fit in perfectly! That's just how I judge MOCs that are supposed to be 2001-2003-like. If they could fit in MNOLG and blend right in, they're good.
  19. Beautiful. I love the even distribution of gold and silver armor, and which armor goes with which color. The best thing I like about this is that they're all clearly cut from the same cloth while still having identities of their own. If you showed these to me in 2005 and told me these were actually gonna come out as sets, I'd believe you. (Well, post-2009 hands and articulated shoulders aside, I'm just talking about the design choices. Plus, you can never go wrong using a Knights Kingdom sword as a spearhead.
  20. You get visited by a blue-skinned clone of Rey from Star Wars, who can recite every episode's dialogue and act it out from memory. But no Blu-Rays of RvB. I wish I was a Power Ranger.
  21. It's a low-budget convention that only lasts for a day, there are absolutely zero guests who you would be interested in, everyone's cosplays are scotch taped together from random stuff they found at Michael's or JoAnn Fabrics, and to top it all off, your day just gets ruined by your least favorite fandom acting obnoxious and taking up the entire convention floor. But it's still a convention. I wish for some high quality sushi.
  22. I'm thinking I like Funko Pop figures now. As a completely on-the-spot decision I decided to get the black Power Ranger at a comic shop this past Friday after work, and he looks awesome on my nightstand. Thinking of getting the rest one at a time every time I go to a store that sells 'em. I'm also thinking they should make more Power Ranger teams than just MMPR. I'd kill for a Samurai one because Samurai Sentai Shinkenger is my favorite Tokusatsu show.
