  1. Ok. I'm going to do my best to tell the 2015 story, but using speculation -not truth- to fill in the blanks. Canon is regular text, speculation is bold. On the island of Okoto, everything is great. All of the island's inhabitants live in the City of the Mask Makers, doing normal stuff. Little do they know that under the surface, a dark force lies in wait. Ekimu and Makuta make masks for the villagers, but Makuta grows jealous when Ekimu's masks are favored. He creates the Mask of Ultimate Power, breaking a sacred rule in the process. Ekimu is able to knock the mask from Makuta's face, but a shockwave ravages the city and the entire island. The brothers are sent into a deep sleep, their masks are scattered across the island, and many citizens are killed by the shockwave. Many villagers leave the city and establish villages in their element's region. The Protectors are charged with guarding their element's Golden Mask of Power, and the duty is handed down from father to son. Nothing happens for a long time, but eventually, the Lord of Skull Spiders finds a mask that lets him control the Skull Spider hordes. The Spiders attack the island, searching for Masks of Power. The current Protectors summon the Toa using the Prophecy of Heroes. The Toa claim their Golden Masks, head for the City of the Mask Makers, and defeat the Lord of Skull Spiders. Makuta is awakened by this sudden surge of power on the island. He is able to use his Mask of Control and reanimate the form of Kulta, who he puts under his control. Kulta raises an army of reanimated citizens, who are now various types of undead warriors. Apparently, the Lord of Skull Spiders is not dead, and is able to control the reanimated Skull Slicer. Until the new animations and novels are officially out, I'm not going to go any farther. Feedback/constructive criticism is welcome.
  2. Here is go again! Here is my opinion on the movies I've seen so far this year. (I will go into some spoilers for the movies. That is why they are in spoiler tags.) Avengers: Age of Ultron: Jurassic World: Terminator: Genisys: Ant-Man: American Sniper: Southpaw: These are the movies I've seen so far this year. Thanks to anyone who reads all of this!
  3. Hello Everyone and welcome to my first set review ever! Everyone has been waiting for this set since the first photos surfaced so let's not wait any longer and get the review started, shall we? Let's kick off with some basic data: Set Number: 70795 Piece Count: no idea (I got it from Europe) Ages: 8-14 Release Date: August 2015 Presentation From the design of the box to the instruction manual, these are the first things you see before building the set. New type of packaging for Bionicle Gen 2, classic Lego box this time. On the front: Same Bionicle logo, a cool battle scene between Ekimu and the Skull Grinder. Name, age range and set number in classic places for the series. On the back it gets more interesting. Action features are clearly shown, as well as is the combination model which (IMHO) looks way better than winter wave combi. Interestingly enough, the box features the entire comic strip not the cut down version that we are used to from other sets. Now let's focus for a moment on the instruction manual. The instruction features the same comic strip in a bit bigger scale... ...which allows us to see some more details of the confrontation. Is it just me or is Skull Grinder really trying to melt the Mask of Creation?? Back of the instruction also features the combination model which can be achieved with this set and 70794. To my eyes it looks like it has an action feature in the claw and possibly some movement in the "wings" Building Half the fun is had building the set. How fun is it to build and how easy or challenging is it? Skull Grinder: Pretty basic CCBS build, Grinder's gear box is Lewa-high but he gets a neck extension. Ekimu: Interesting protector build with gear box but still pretty straightforward The set also includes a stand for the Mask of Creation The build is simple but still very enjoyable. Probably because you're building the legendary Mask Maker. Set Design Now that the set is complete, we can critique how it looks from every angle. New or interesting pieces can also be examined here. + Ekimu's shield and some Technic parts to keep it all together. Wow. Looking at the parts Skull Grinder is impressive to say the least. The bones look great and are gonna be extremely useful for all the necromancers MOCers. Skull Grinder's shoulder and knee armor is amazing and to my knowledge one of the first parts with "broken" look in the CCBS system. The trans-orange chest, standard for all the skull warriors is also really good. His weapons: wonderful. The sword is irregular but nice to look at and has a "hook" at the end - my guess? mask removing tool. The axe is cool as well, interestingly enough its bendable but I don't know if on purpose. Ekimu on the other hand uses mosly old parts such as Chima constraction armor or Cindrella's carriage wheel. His only recolor is the 6-stud shooter in trans light blue but its not exclusive to him. The Masks: Everyone's been waiting for this moment. The MASK OF CREATION! Bathe in its glory! Its Amazing with a capital "A". Everything that you've seen on promotional images is here, including the runes not only on the "crown" but on the face as well. IMHO it fits perfectly the Mataverse description. This is the thing that people are gonna buy this set for. Ah, I just can't stop looking at it... The golden protector mask is also really nice, I especially like the golden tint in the transition section. Skull Grinder's mask is some good stuff, menacing and capturing the look of "Big Bad Guy". For all you parts hunters out there this set contains two of the black, three lenght "mixed" pins that were first included with LOSS. So that's the parts. Now lets focus on the complete set. Both characters look very solid and there isn't much to complain about. Skull Grinder is big, menacing and fits perfectly as the leader of other skull baddies. The only cons in his design are that he is really hollow around his chest/neck area and that his mace is just too heavy, even with additional gears. Now the other side of the conflict. Some say that small is beautiful and they are right. The Mask Maker looks really cool and ready for battle. He is really bulky due to the gearbox but it doesn't take away from his look. I still can't understand the reason behind giving Ekimu green eyes, but oh well he is still cool (i'm for sure gonna swap his eye crystal for one of the protector's) Playability The other half of the fun is in playing with the set. How well does the set function and is it enjoyable to play with? Skull Grinder has a standard number of points of articulation +1 due to his neck extension. Ekimu is standard as well but his elbows and knees are protector style so they have a bit more of sideways mobility. Skull Grinder has only two standard play functions, one being the gear box and two the possibility to knock his mask off. If you want you can consider the possiblitity to grab masks with his mace as another one. ...like this. Ekimu on the other side is far better equipped. He has the basic Bionicle 2015 functions so one of his arms is powered by gears and his mask can be knocked off. Next off, his shield can be rotated with a gear and his hammer is in fact a 6-stud launcher. How is that? The shield can rotate... ...and the hammer can shoot! Being the only set in this wave to contain a bad and a good guy, this set's playability towers over every other one from the summer wave. The "conflict in a box" as well as the golden protector mask allow you to play out cool battle scenes without the need to buy anything else. Also, did I already say that it contains the Mask Of Creation? You can do everything with this mask and a bit of imagination. Ekimu the Mask Maker in his full glory Axe or Sword? Wanna play a game? Final Thoughts Once it's all said and done, how does the set stack up? Should I get it? Pros What's to like? Mask Of Creation!!!"Conflict in a box"Lots of action featuresMask Of Creation!Fun buildNew parts - always welcomedid I already talk about the Mask...?Cons What's not to like? Skull Grinder is a bit hollowEven if he has an additional set of gears, his mace is just too heavy to keep it up in any pose that you wantThe new skull shoulder and knee armor stands out a bit too much and is hollow inside as wellEkimu has green eyes (Why Lego, why??)A must buy for every Bionicle fan out there, old and new. The Mask is of course the focus of the set but the rest doesn't disappoint either. A very good set as a whole in my opinion. PS: Thanks everyone for reading and seeing as it's my very first review i would very much like some constructive criticism in the comments. This is Dakhann, signing off.
  4. All pics link to Flickr! Description: The villagers of Okoto play this ancient sport to bring pride to their villages. The first villager to shoot a gem through the hoop three times wins the ceremonial mask. They are armed with weapons to knock away the opponent's gems and shooters to fire their gems through the hoop. Two score counters are also included. Background: This year I was able to attend the LEGO Inside Tour for the first time. The 34-person group I was in, which toured from the 19th of May to the 22nd, was the second tour group for 2015 and the 28th since the LEGO Inside Tour began. The most thrilling part of the LEGO Inside Tour, for me, was getting to meet and spend time with so many LEGO designers and others who help to make the LEGO Group the company that it is. However, the biggest surprise for me was connected with the building competition at the end of the first day. All tour participants were invited to think like a LEGO designer and design a potential set to meet certain constraints. The designers would judge them the next day before announcing the winners at an awards ceremony that evening. The parts provided for us included many BIONICLE pieces, but I was one of the only builders to create a primarily BIONICLE-based creation, since that is the style of building that comes most naturally to me. When I finished my model at around 10:20pm, a lot of other builders were still working on their own creations, so I didn't get to see what my model was up against until the awards ceremony. To my amazement, the model I created won first prize! It was the first BIONICLE creation to win first prize in the history of the LEGO Inside Tour. The designers liked that it had a clear play scenario and hit the desired price point almost exactly. I was awarded a LEGO set and a brick-built trophy printed with the Inside Tour logo. And yes, they let me keep my creation! Bonus pics:
  5. Ok here is the picture and LOOK VERY CLOSELY: It LOOKS like his symbol is Lloyd's and the FIRST SPINJITZU MASTER's SYMBOL. At least that's what I see. I know it CAN'T be his symbol, but IS it??? Oh, and he's also wearing a SIMILAR suit to the ninja's FIRST suits. Do you guys think that this is CRAZY, or is it JUST me?
  6. Tribes of Okoto A Comparative Analysis of the Physiological and Cultural Distinctions Between Six Island Tribes ---------------------------------- An introductory Overview The island of Okoto is host to a number of unique species, including at least one extant sophant race and possible a number of others. It is, however, this singular race that is to be the focus of this research document, as most future contact with the world is expected to happen with them. The villagers of Okoto, who call themselves Morehu, were at one point in their history part of an island-wide empire of great wealth and mystical power. However, due to the mishandling of an artifact and the resultant tragedy, most modern Morehu live in scattered tribes on the island. These tribes are affiliated with the region of the island in which they live; the Jungle Tribes live in the Jungle Region, the Stone Tribes live in the Stone Region, and so on. Morehu are carbon-based reptomammals with metallic compounds throuough their body, most notably in their bone structure. They have an average height of 4.5 feet, exhibiting a basic bipedal dual armed body plan with a singular head and no extended spine. Their hands have five digits, one of which is opposable; while this is also true of their feet, two of their digits have fused into a large “middle toe” and the opposable digit is usually used for balance. The smaller scales on a Morehu’s hands, feet, head, and chest usually appear silver, but as they grow larger on the limbs and main body they take a more blackish hue. The musculature of their barrel forms a distinct synthetic abdomen appearance, with a circular pattern over their heart and piston-like veins running from their ribs to their pelvis; almost all Morehu wear chest armor that mimcs and exaggerates these natural qualities. Morehu faces can best be described as a strong-jawed, hollow cheeked scowl with their eyes exhibiting refractive qualities and ranging from ice-blue to pale yellow in color. Their diet, while technically omnivorous, appears to be mostly plant based with the occasional lucky kill thrown in. This is largely out of necessity rather than preference, as the infrastructure for supporting different diets has collapsed with the empire. While they do have a noselike bone, the nostrils are rather simple; a combination of scent organs and taste buds can be found on complicated structures located on their cheeks. The hearing organs of the Morehu are drumlike enclosed ears, located just under a pair of “port” organs that allow limited telepathic contact. Most Morehu will consistently wear masks to protect these “ports” from access, and a number of masks actually incorporate a level of telepathically controlled mystical power. While the above is true of all Morehu populations, the varied regions of Okoto have resulted in minor divergences, both culturally and physiologically. The following sections are designed to elucidate on these differences, and furthermore examine the reasons they exist. ((The above is the first part of a seven part series, based on close observation of the Protector models.))
  7. Hello everyone, longtime Bionicle fan (and one of the original Chibi Avatar art starters from way way back ). I've been meaning to make Bionicle 2015 themed shirts for a while and this is my first attempt. Below is the design that I'm using that I made (sorry if it's too big): You can check out the shirts both in Traditional Ice colors and in Gold Mask colors (with real metallic gold coloring!). Let me know if you like it as I may design the rest of the Toa masks in the same style if there's a good response. If you like the designs please check out the rest of the shirt shop for my other non Bionicle designs
  8. The Toa will definitely get a power-up at some point, because Lego needs to sell more toys. But I don't think they'll be called Toa Nuva. Maybe something like "The Element Lords"? Tahu Lord of Fire has a nice ring to it. A few of my friends theorized that the half-gold half-trans masks aren't being drained of their power, but are actually becoming more powerful. If this is true, then the Toa's masks might become fully transparent to represent the raw elements. What would you like the powered-up Toa to look like? (Or what do you think Lego will design?) Would they get new masks or just have recolored old ones? New weapons? New armor pieces? More transparent parts? Seeing as the Toa are already big sets to begin with, how much bulkier could they even get before everyone becomes a titan? Though Bionicle could just go the Hero Factory route and have situational upgrades that aren't always more powerful than the last one. Like how Stormer went from being an XL set (the largest hero) in Breakout to a scout-sized set (one of the smallest) in Brain Attack. In the story we already have Ekimu the mask maker, so the upgrades could be explained pretty simply by just having Ekimu craft new weapons, armor, and masks for the Toa's quest. No need to fall in protodermis or get mutated by venom. The Chir brothers seem to know Lego's design philosophy pretty well so I'd love their thoughts on this. (there's another topic about future set designs in general, this is about the Toa specifically and how the reboot will handle upgrades/transformations)
  9. Old school Bionicle fan here! I’m trying to collect all the new sets. I bought all the current Spring sets and the hero packs. Are there any limited edition sets that are more difficult to find? I swear I read somewhere that there are special limited edition masks that were released earlier this year. Is this true and where can I find these masks? The comics have not returned to the lego magazine, correct? Thanks BZP people,
  10. I didn't slip Original Colour Original Sketch A rather quick rendering of Kopaka humanized, drawn with Copic markers & gouache. Enjoy! So, I've finally done it! After years of refusing to draw Bionicles, I finally gave in... Koolpak's always been my favourite, so it was only natural that it'd be him. A big thanks to EandPi2333 for letting me fuse his version of Kopaker with this guy (I had to start somewhere )!
  11. http://imgur.com/a/ua4ZK Just got done with this project that's been in the works since January! (Took so long mostly because of procrastination ) Character bios are coming soon! Constructive criticism and feedback is welcome. Also just added the bios for each character along with their stats, so take a look!
  12. Hey guys. I've been working on something over the weekend and I'd like to keep it to myself and bask in its awesomeness share it with you. So here we go. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAsDjgRi1P0&feature=youtu.be
  13. Hello all, as usual. Now, I have had an interesting theory that's been preying for a while, and that's this: In G1, the Toa Mata were created as an emergency failsafe for the crash of the GSR. (sorry, GSR, u crashed) Then are presented unto the island of Mata Nui with a mission to rid the world of Makuta and stop the Rahi from casing destruction. Although, beforehand, Helryx just wakes them up and sends them on their way, easily finding out mask powers and abilities, speech capability, waliking, etc., something brand-new beings don't know off the bat. Which brigs up the question; were the Toa Mata originally Matoran? they instantly figured out a ton of things and were able to socially interact in seconds, but... Why am I bringing this up in a G2 argument? The same happened here. Six villagers were taken from their homes, wiped of all memory, and turned into Toa with fighting capabilities to destroy any evil threat that cane upon the island by, possibly, a higher power source. Something LEGO could work off of in the future. That would explain how the mysterious protector of fire was able to call out Tahu's name as soon as he landed. Now, that video brings up other issues, like how come the skull spiders suck so bad, and do villagers control elemental powers like the protectors, and were the protectors once Toa, but for right now, this is my question. Go ahead, wizards of B/S/T!

  15. So recently, inspired by an offhand comment my twin brother made about wanting to see/build an updated version of the classic Nui-Rama set, I decided to try my hand at a MOC. After much planning, preparation on LDD, and scavenging parts from recent Technic sets, the result is what you see here. A "Skull Sandfly" (still not 100% sold on the name, but I like the alliteration). I tried to recreate the look of the classic set while giving it a much-needed update, with CCBS parts replacing the classic low-posability Bionicle limbs and the dated Throwbot/Slizer gearbox cleared out to make way for a custom gearbox which utilizes the knob gears from this year's Technic-heavy Toa and Lord of Skull Spiders. The function looks better (thanks in part to the wings from Gorast and Thornraxx) and arguably works better, with less wobble and a better grip for the handle. The jaw and claws are now posable, thanks to parts from last year's Hero Factory sets, and the eyes are now solidly attached instead of weirdly popping off like other masks. And at 103 pieces, it gives the original a run for its money in terms of bulk and building experience as well. 16. Moderators, please have mercy on my profile. Allow me to start off by asking a question: How much detail does a character need in order to define who they are? It’s been a debate for a while now in the Bionicle community that detailing in sets is of some sort of importance. I’d like to go in depth of how I feel about this debate, and hopefully gain some understanding. I’m not asking you to change your mind about something; I’m not trying to be persuasive in any way: I just want to give you my perception of both sides, as well as my own. Let’s start off with the sets themselves. A lot of people in the Bionicle community feel that the new sets (2015, for those unaware) are not as good as the old sets (from 2001-’10) on the basis of small detailing. Older Bionicle parts had small, intricate details, and many believe that the resurrection of the characters in CCBS, the newer system, sacrifices those details and overall makes the sets look bad. To me, bad and hate are such strong words (especially now that I have taken a Developmental Psychology course, so… back on topic! he he). Why must we throw these words around like nothing today? I digress. The point I am trying to make is that characters truly are not defined by small details, but sometimes small details can be distracting. Some people dislike the keetorange on Lewa’s chest plate. I’m okay with that; sometimes it bothers my eyes, too. When some say that small details made the characters better is where I have a problem. Take, for example, the new picture of Jared Leto as “The Joker”. The picture reveals that the new iteration of the villain has several tattoos and markings while keeping the same green hair and white makeup from the original design. What is distracting to me, you ask? Answer: the teeth. When I look at a picture of a character, I usually look at their eyes first, but on the picture in question, I began at the teeth. Not the best first impression in my opinion. I digress. Again. The new Toa bring something great to the table: they pull off the character designs with no need for small, insignificant details. Just look at Onua. You can tell without reading his biography that he looks strong and heavy. A similar response can come for any of the other characters introduced thus far. Then there are the summer sets. There are even complaints about those sets not being detailed. Because apparently the bone aesthetic parts (being the ribcage, printed chest plate, skulls, and “bones” on arms/legs) aren’t enough. To me, they get the point across that they are the villains in the world just by overall design alone. Even LOSS gets the point across. After all, spiders are more often than not the villains. So what are your thoughts? Are small details necessary to define a character in most cases? Let me know!
  17. Next March, LEGO is introducing a new girl-oriented theme called LEGO Elves! The teaser site has images of the main characters, a video, and a taste of the theme's otherworldly setting of Elvendale. The characters, from left to right, are Aira Windwhistler, Farran Leafshade, Emily Jones, Naida Riverheart, and Azari Firedancer! The four elf characters represent the elements of Air, Earth, Water, and Fire, respectively! Here's a story description translated from the German catalog (pages 46–47): "Join Emily Jones in her exciting journey through the magical world of Elvendale, beginning at a mysterious door in her grandmother's garden. Emily needs help to find the way back home. In order to open the gate to that separates her from her home, Emily must find four keys - but she can only manage this with the help of her elven friends. Learn all the details about LEGO Elves on LEGO.com/elves and download the app, to witness the adventure!" I am so incredibly excited for this theme! It's got a lot of the same magic that drew me to themes like BIONICLE and Ninjago, but wrapped up in my teenage love of magical fantasy races from fairy tales and folklore! I've been saying for a while that what LEGO needed to follow up the success of LEGO Friends was a dedicated in-house fantasy theme for girls, and this one has so far surpassed my wildest expectations! What do you think about this theme?
  18. (All pics link to Flickr) Function Video (5 seconds) I was realizing the day before yesterday that the 2015 Toa have one strategic advantage over the 2015 BIONICLE villains: none of the villains appear to be able to fly. So I thought I'd even the odds. Obviously, I had to use a few placeholder parts, but I still think it conveys the general idea I was going for. Skull Ripper includes 87 pieces total, and so I imagine she would hit about the same $15 price point as the other skull villains. Skull Ripper's torso features the same Technic function as Skull Basher's, but here it serves two very different purposes. From a standing position, it allows Skull Ripper to stab an opponent with her talons. In flight, it allows her to flap her wings. Ideally, I'd prefer Skull Ripper to use Tr. Blue instead of Tr. Light Blue, but from a practical standpoint I found that I had a more useful range of pieces in Tr. Light Blue. Thoughts, comments, criticism? Please share! This is my first MOC I've completed to my satisfaction in a few months, so I'm very proud of it, but I'm sure there's room for improvement!
  19. Previously, I started a poll about which Toa had the best set (http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/18251-which-winter-2015-sets-are-best/). Now, I ask you this: whose personality do you want expanded upon most? Out of all our beloved heroes, who do you believe deserves the most fleshing-out of their character? Who has the most potential? I'll list the Toa and their bios according to Bionicle.com, so you know who and what you're voting for. Tahu: Kopaka: Onua: Pohatu: Gali: Lewa: I personally that Kopaka wins here. Whether that's me saying that because he really deserves it, because he's so like me, I don't know. What I do know, however, is that someone who appears cold due strong morals doesn't appear in just any story. Normally, you see morally just people as exuberant, and extroverted, not reserved and socially outcast. This is a very good change to gen1 Kopaka's character, in my opinion. What do you think? Vote and feel free to explain your answer below; I'm looking forward to reading your answers! Okay, maybe I should point this out. The poll serves as a sort of record, but the answers could really be interesting if you fleshed them out in the comments. I see two people want Lewa's personality to be expanded on... would either of you care to explain why?

    VERSUS 2

Back in 2009, a BZPower member named Zeero first hosted a game called The BZPower Challenge. It was popular enough to garner two sequels, although the third never really got started. It was one of the more unique games in the forum, but the likes of it had not been seen since - until I revived the concept last year with a little game called VERSUS. Yes, the all-caps is necessary. When VERSUS ended, I knew that I would want to revisit it someday, to improve and expand upon it. That day has finally come. HOW IT WORKS After all of the spots have been filled, the game will begin with a “Round Zero”, in which a series of 50 trivia questions based upon either Bionicle or BZPower itself will be asked. The first player to answer a question correctly will receive two points; the three players with the highest number of points at the end of the round shall be named as the Captains of three teams. The Captains will then enter into a group PM with myself selecting their team members one by one from the remaining players. The player with the highest score after Round Zero will begin drafting first. Once the teams are decided, the game will begin in full with team-based challenges beginning in Round One. Each round, I will judge the results of the challenge and decide a winner – the losing teams will then be forced to vote out of their members, eliminating that player from the game. At a certain point in the game, all teams will be dissolved and the game will become a free for all. After this, the final player to complete each task will be eliminated from the game. Once only three players remain in the game, I shall gather all of the eliminated players to vote for the winner. THE RULES 1 - Do not contact me about the game outside of BZPower. 2 - Twists may be activated during the game; said twists are not described in this post because they are a surprise! 3 - Feel free to ask any other questions here. 4 - Other BZP rules apply, as usual. ROUND WINNERS Round 0: fishers64, Burnmad, ToaK Round 1: Team MEGA-ORB Round 2: Team SHM Round 3: Team CHUMMS Round 4: Team MEGA-ORB Round 5: Team MEGA-ORB Round 6: THE PLAYERS I am aiming to have three teams of six; that requires eighteen players. TEAM MEGA-ORB 1. fishers64 (Captain) 2. Pulse 3. Kopekemaster 4. ShadowVezon [Formerly SHM] 5. Unit [Formerly CHUMMS] TEAM SHM 1. Valendale (Captain) 2. ToaK (Former Captain) 3. Ghidora 4. Madu Cabolo ELIMINATED PLAYERS 10. MrPerson [CHUMMS/SHM]; Eliminated Round 5 11. Luroka [CHUMMS]; Eliminated Round 4 12. ToaD [CHUMMS]; Eliminated Round 4 13. Underscore [SHM]; Eliminated Round 3 14. Liuth [MEGA-ORB]; Eliminated Round 3 15. Vrokorta [MEGA-ORB]; Eliminated Round 3 16. JiMing [MEGA-ORB]; Eliminated Round 2 17. Burnmad [CHUMMS Captain]; Eliminated Round 2 18. 21. The thing I hate most about G2 is the complete lack of any backstory of the island. So far, the only story material we have are the brief blurbs on each Toa and Protector on Lego.com and the videos, which doesn't provide much. Of all of the villagers on all of Okoto, the only one with some hint of characterization is the Protector of Fire. This is precisely why everyone loves MNOLG so much. It gave a look into the lives of the everyday villagers, the ones who fished or sailed or sold or who could fight off the Rahi just fine without the Toa's help. The Toa weren't the only heroes of the story, fighting for some villagers smacked in only to have something to fight for. So I've been thinking about it a bit in my course of drawing and building characters. What exactly could this character's personality be like? Let's start with the Protectors. Of course, this is all my own headcanon and is in no way official, but until we get something clearer, I'm treating it as canon. Protectors: These elite villagers of Okoto are called to be guardians of their people and culture. Each Protector is chosen from the family of the previous, typically the first born, though special circumstances have occurred in the past. When the current Protector reaches a certain age, they select their successor and pass on their mask and weapons in a grand ceremony attended by the whole island. Their names are replaced by their title, a show of their commitment to leave their previous life and turn towards their people. Each mask was crafted from sacred materials by Ekimu himself, distinguishing them from the typical villager masks. Protector of Fire: One of the most experienced Protectors, the Protector of Fire has seen much of the world. He has been fighting for his village for decades, always looking for the time when the Masters would come to liberate them forever. He has searched every prophesy and is filled with much ancient wisdom. In battle, he is fierce and unrelenting. His large frame is surprisingly agile, able to twist around enemy blows, yet deliver punishing strikes with his swords, just like his element. His Mask of Fire was forged from crystals found in the heart of the Okoto volcanoes. It is rare to see one come to the surface of the lava, and rarer still to obtain it. It is said the very essence of fire is captured within those fractals, a power the Protector of Fire uses to great effect. His flame swords are mounted on swiveling handles, allowing him to twirl them around in combat to redouble the force of his strikes. A slow spin is usually enough to frighten away the creatures that lurk in the dark, but when Skull Spiders come to battle, they are met with the white-hot blades as they whirl in blazing tornadoes in his hands. Protector of Earth: The eldest of the current Protectors, the Protector of Earth is brash and loud. His rumbling voice is often heard echoing through the caverns of the Earth Region. Despite his... rough personality, his devotion to his people is unquestionable. He is always at the forefront of every battle, blasting away with his chest cannon or shredding through opponents with his drill. When the village is at peace, he can often be found in the mines, digging away alongside his fellows. The Protector of Earth's drill, armor, and mask are formed from the rarest of Okoto's gems, a hardy and lustrous purple stone found only in the deepest caverns. Some have questioned if they bury themselves there, pushing away from unworthy hands with powers of Earth. If his launcher ever runs out of energy, he has throwing knives in ready supply and has become quite adept at their use. Protector of Stone: Though rarely seen in his home village, his skills with his staff are not to be questioned. Since the current Protector of Stone was instated, not a single Skull Spider has been seen within the village boundaries, though occasionally a villager will stumble upon an old carcass, killed in one blow with his deadly accuracy. When he can be found, he barely speaks, and only then in a hoarse whisper. The Mask of Stone was forged from the purest sand caught in a rare phenomenon: arcs of pure energy that cut across the Stone Region's deserts. Perhaps it is caused by the heat, but many affirm it is some ancient magic of the land. His staff-mounted elemental sandstone blaster is effective at close and long range. The long energy prongs, formed of the same energy that created his mask, are able to slice through most substances, though he rarely needs to use them. Protector of Ice: No one expected her sudden calling to be the next Protector of Ice, least of all herself. Even before taking on the mantle, she was shy and unsure of herself. Her aim with anything was shaky, her carving skills were cringe-worthy, and she couldn't seem to manage to get anywhere without falling on the ice. Her new responsibility has helped little. Though her new weapons make things slightly easier, she can't help but feel she was the worst possible villager for the job. Perhaps her purpose will only be apparent in time. Truly, it is only her weapons that give her hope of success, for it is difficult to fail with enchanted ice at your side. Legends say the mask, ice blade, and shield appeared from the ice at Ekimu's approach. They are bitterly cold to the touch and show no signs of melting even after generations of use. Protector of Jungle: The fastest gal in the land; Brynn was known as a messenger long before she took up the title of Protector of Jungle. She knows half the island like the back of her hand, and the other half well enough to get a message to anyone. Some of the other Protectors claim she shirks her duty to her people in favor of exploring the island or socializing, but whenever there is an attack, the Protector of Jungle is always there, appearing as if from the jungle itself. Her Mask of Jungle is carved from the sacred wood of the Jungle Region's Spirit Trees. These great monoliths are said to twist the junglearound them, only allowing those who are worthy to approach. This same ability to control the greenery is contained in her mask, and its wise guidance whispers to her through the vines trailing from her form. Her bow, the weapon of every Protector of Jungle, at first appears to be merely a tangle of vines and thorns, but with the assistance of her power, it is able to fire straight and true with greater power than any crafted before or since. (Yes, this was inspired by Bynn the Breaker from Bastion, as well as gk733 on DA) Protector of Water: The newest of the current line of Protectors and by far the youngest. She almost seems too youthful and naive to possibly save anyone, but she has proven herself a prodigy in swimming and combat. Her new tools only enhance her already great skill. She would be a formidable force to reckon with if she could just stay focused. Far too many times she has swam off to explore the sea floor, only to return to find a battle had been fought and won without her. Though she is young, the people can only forgive her curiosity so many times. On closer inspection, one would find her seemingly solid mask ripples softly. Its entire shape is formed by water, held together by some unknown power. The villagers had watched Ekimu as he walked through them wordlessly and stood at the shore as if waiting. Then, the Mask of Water washed up to him on a wave, and he handed it to the first Protector of Water. Her torpedo launcher and turbines pull her through the water at seemingly impossible speeds, and she had grown accustomed to using the new weapons.
  22. After purchasing Lewa yesterday and using a lot of his pieces for a different MOC, I decided to use what pieces I had left (along with various others in my collection) to make the little guy I felt had to be made: ~~~ [Full] Personally I think the Mask of Jungle works a lot better for Matau than it does for Lewa. But that's just my opinion. [side] That ball joint is supposed to have a "hand" piece attached, but for some reason it's not there. [back] Not a huge fan of the big, clunky feet, but they're the smallest things I have in Keetorange. [uh-oh] Look out, Matau! [“Greetings, Lewa. We have been waiting for you.”] A recreation of a classic moment. ~~~ Questions? Comments. Complaints! What do you think?
  23. So, the other day, my brother and I bought Kopaka, Pohatu, and the PoE, and this broght up a thought I'd had upon first seeing the new figures. Now, notice the coloration of some of the sets. We see the characters of Ice and Water having trans-blue limbs, the Stone characters having trans-lime, and the Protector of Fire having trans-red hands. Now, some of you may remember a theory back in the Glatorian Era which suggested that the Spherus Magna inhabitants had skin colors that matched that of their heads (these were not Tribe-specific, as we saw Perditus having a green head despite being Fire, and Vastus not matching Tarduk or Gresh). So, what if that is how it works in the new line? The transparent bones could be representative of their skin underneath the armor, if they are, indeed, mostly organic. This means that if Kopaka removed all his armor, he'd be almost entirely blue, Pohatu would be lime green, and Onua would be purple. EDIT: I have a new addition to this theory! With the revealing of the summer sets, we see many more transparent bone pieces as well as what appears to be actual bones. These figures, based on the animation, seem to be undead--reanimated corpses of the inhabitants of this world. The key part here is the bones--the new parts that actually look like they might be part of a human skeleton. This seems very indicative of an organic structure that has rotted away over time. They also have some transparent bone pieces, which could very well be bits of decaying flesh still hanging on as the corpse rots (or flesh growing back as the being returns to life). Thoughts? Theories? Theatrics? (I realize this is based around the sets, and so could belong in BD, but since it deals more with representing the in-story characters, I feel it should be welcome here.)
  24. Hey, everypony! Sorry, brony reference. Anyway, after digging through this site I've found out how to start a new topic, so I wanted to discuss my theory. I think that Lewa has been made a Toa of plantlife in the 2015 reboot, or "The green" as the Matoran used to call it. Speaking of Lewa, do you think that the new Toa will get Nuva forms in 2016, or will it just be new enemies from here on out?
  25. Everybody's favorite sleeping rock SPIRIT was awesome enough to review 70787 Tahu - Master of Fire for BS01. Check out his review here!
