  1. Just a day or two ago, a topic started by -Takua- on deciphering the Gen2 runes made the front page. Naturally, it got a lot of traffic and many replies. There was, and still is, a great amount of excitement over a new BIONICLE language. Unfortunately, among many of the objective posts (most posts were either off topic or approval of adding a new language), the general concensus is that these symbols do not, as of this time, have any meaning and are simply decoration. Given the LEGO Group's aptness to heavily incorporate the old Matoran Language into the first generation before it became expected to do so, if these symbols do not mean anything, it is unlikely that they ever will. However, at least from what I have heard, LEGO has been known to accept fan input for the BIONICLE story from time to time. What I suggest is the creation of a fan-developed language, one using few other symbols outside of the ones featured in the shorts and inscribed on the Mask of Creation. This is really a time to be creative, so don't feel confined to the English alphabet (or grammar, for that matter). Get creative enough, and we just might be able to give a meaning to that endlessly repeating string of non-repeating characters. Before attempting to start this puzzler, I recommend seeing -Takua-'s post as well as SkullKid's (towards the end) as they are the most informative (there are a lot of posts). Even if LEGO still never gives the runes a meaning, this could be a sort of ongoing project/puzzle to give meaning to the meaningless; a "fanonical" language if you will, which is better than none at all. Feel free to post your thoughts even if they only are half baked. A fragment of an idea just may prove inspirational to someone else. NOTE: There still is a chance that these symbols do indeed currently have a meaning, it is just unlikely.
  2. The masters' masks are the masks of their respective elements. But what do they do? are they the source of their power? Are they powerless without them, both elementally and otherwise? What about the Golden masks? Is it just like going from "olda" to "nuva", like it's just a power level upgrade? And if the masks are the source of elemental powers, then what happens if, say, Tahu wears the Mask of Ice. Would it work for him? Or does that mask work only for one person? What about Protector masks? Are they basically turaga-level elemental power masks? And, here's the one that confuses me the most, what does the Mask of Creation do? When Kulta wore it, all he did was smash the Toa. Doe sit actually help you create stuff? Is it more like the G1 version of Artakha's mask then? But then it also makes you stronger, meaning that even people who aren't the owners of the masks can use them... And what does the Mask of control do? Is it like a high-powered Komau? I guess this should be more straightforward, but it must have gone over my head. Can you guys sum it up?
  3. Hello, everyone! I haven't been active on BZP for quite some time now, but I felt that it might be worthwhile to share my project with you folks (especially seeing as I've already posted it on other sites). So, without further adieu, I give you my... Okoto Minecraft Map My goal in creating this world was to make a virtual representation of Okoto that features everything that we've actually seen in the story, as well as give players the chance to traverse the island on their own accord. It's kind of like an experiment in that it shows us exactly how much we've truly learned about the island. Here's what you can expect to find... The City of the Mask Makers: More And yes, most of the undead are present! Unfortunately, I was unable to make Scorpio happen. There's just nothing in game that looks remotely like him. The skull warriors spawn in waves(as long as there is someone within 50 meters of the gate). Skull Slicer can be summoned in the arena! He boasts more health than a normal skeleton and will occasionally use a grabber whirlwind attack to try and pull you in. He usually drops his grabber claw upon death. Kulta is found in the forge. By default he has 100 health and will occasionally use his Mask Steal attack(which breaks nearby players' headgear. This includes masks!) He also gains significant speed, strength, and regen buffs after donning the mask of creation, not to mention the inherent protection bonus. Whoops! Forgot to mention that Kulta drops The Mask Stealer Staff which, after being held for a sufficient period of time, charges up the same attack that Kulta can use on you. You'll begin to see red particles around you when it's ready, then all you have to do is sneak! If you beat him after he puts on the MoC, he will drop that as well. Given how poorly documented its powers are, I just gave it a protection 10 enchantment. It's nothing fancy, but it's better than a diamond helmet at the very least. Skull Basher is around too. I'll let him find you. Mask Shrines and Powers More All of the island's mask shrines are present. It would also seem that the Toa have left behind their basic masks... Perhaps these will be of use to you? Bear in mind that I took these screenshots before I implemented the masks, so they aren't on the pedestals. Don't worry, they will be there in game. For the record, I'm not really sure why the images are all different sizes Here are the abilities granted by the masks: -Holding Sneak with the mask of stone donned will activate the sandstorm tornado ability and lift you into the air! -Sprinting with the mask of air for extended periods of time will build up a speed and jump boost, eventually allowing you to clear huge tracts of land in a single bound! -Holding sneak for a(particularly long) period of time with the mask of ice equipped will charge up and project an elemental ice shield around the wearer. -Holding sneak for a short period of time with the mask of water donned will activate the tidal dash ability, giving the wearer speed, strength, and regeneration for 10 seconds. Additionally, the mask of water greatly improves swim speed. -Once a player has worn the mask of earth for a certain length of time, they will begin to emit purple particles. This indicates that, upon sneaking, they will create a tremor in the ground around them and pull nearby entities under. -The mask of fire functions in a similar fashion to the mask of earth; after an extended period of time with the mask on, the player will begin to emit flame particles. This means that, upon sneaking, they will release a burst of flame in multiple directions and create a blazing inferno around them.(Be advised; this one is somewhat buggy and may cause lag issues if used too often.) I did film myself demonstrating each mask, but for whatever reason the files got corrupted. I'll give it another go at some point, but for now I'll just leave you with footage of the mask of stone: Additional notable locations: More There are a few other places worth traveling to... Download: If you're interested in seeing the map firsthand, you can download it... here Make sure that you play it in the 1.9 snapshots, otherwise it will not work! Lastly, here's an overview of the map(as seen in worldpainter). Disregard the lack of snow in that render; it didn't account for biomes. Thanks for stopping by! Edit: Spoiler tags converted to "more" tags; please use spoiler tags for storyline spoilers only! -Wind-
  4. I don't know how close this runs to being against guidelines, but as long as everyone else is cool with their comments, I think it should work out. OK: so the protectors went to the Temple of Time, and presumably using the Mask of Time or something, send their "prayers to the heavens". G2's protectors "prayer" could be a few things: 1) Just a euphemism- maybe it's just their hopes their sending to the heavens -- "prayers" just being a symbol of that? 2) There's someone up there! That lightning-bolt/laser that shot into space may have been carrying a message- perhaps another as-of-yet unknown character who organized the Toa and shot them to Okoto. A G2 equivalent of a Great Being, or GSR perhaps? 3) The communication was to the Toa themselves, to come and save Okoto- Which of course begs the question of where they were in space to begin with- and were they conscious enough to get it? Thus, was coming to Okoto a conscious decision the Toa made, or was it another unconscious-in-the-canister-and-it-just-got-launched-automatically scenario? And, if conscious, what were they doing on the world(s) they came from? Geez, just one line in an internet cartoon gives ya a lot to think about, huh?
  5. Has anyone heard any more about the "half-Vahi" theory? TTV talks about it here on their podcast. Basically, some LEGO guy apparently said the original Vahi was only half of a mask, and implied that maybe the Okoto people have the other half? Is this theory canon, or at the very least, not disproven? Is it still possible? or has Lego put more info forward that gives a new perspective on the G1 Vahi, and the G2 Mask of Time?
  6. Review topicView in a dynamic format on Google DriveNote: This story is all in one post, but is separated into chapters. This is due to the site automatically adding my replies to the main post. Each chapter has been subtly colour-coded for easier navigation. KIRAK THE SCAVENGER 1. "Curse it." hissed Kirak, inspecting the silver dagger he held in his clawed hands. He scowled at the sight of the various scuffs and scratches on what was once an immaculate chrome blade. He again tried to polish them away with and oiled rag, to no avail. Stowing the blade away on his left thigh, Kirak stood up. His sand-filled joints creaked as he raised his lanky body skyward, and his back clicked when he finally stood straight. He looked over the horizon, watching the sun set over the deserts of Okoto. Just then, his focus shifted to a tiny insect perched on the sill of his mask's left eyehole. He noted that the insect was etching into the metallic floor beneath it with its sharp little legs, so his benevolence towards the creature swiftly turned to malevolence. Kirak slowly raised his left hand to his face, and poised a clawed finger, ready to crush the insect. Kirak then struck... But overshot and jabbed his left eye. He yelped at the sharp pain, loud enough for his wail to echo across the canyons down before him. The insect, completely unfazed by the drama that occurred, casually buzzed away as if nothing had happened. Embarrassed and infuriated, Kirak lifted his charge revolver, and sent a shot hurtling towards the flittering bug. He of course missed, and shot again - and again, and again… Until he eventually hit it. It fell to the ground, in a tiny singed heap, which Kirak crushed and ground with his clawed foot, growling. Kirak inhaled deeply, and restored some composure, stowing his charge revolver on his right thigh. His eye was sore, his mask and dagger scratched, and now he was low on ammunition. However, it was slowly getting darker – his opportunity was drawing ever nearer. Kirak looked down into the canyon below, and leapt into the darkness. Priming his strong, digitigrade legs, he focused on the abyss and aimed for the rocky floor below. In his focus however, he failed to notice a particularly hand-like branch on the cliff face behind him, which hooked the gear on his back and sent Kirak into a tumbling spin, to which he again yelped. Plummeting towards the ground below, Kirak’s life of crime flashed before his eyes… Until he crashed with a tremendous clunk, in a thick cloud of sand. Weakly, Kirak propped himself up, noting the tremendous headache he had given himself. He coughed, before shaking sand out of the crevices in his mask and armour. “Gravity… Eugh… Gravity hurts.” He mumbled, meekly. He looked up to the fiendish branch that clipped him, and scowled. He reached for his charge revolver to shoot it, but then recalled that he only had three shots left. Cursing, he stood up, his legs still primed from earlier. He looked ahead, visualized his route, and sprinted through the canyon with much haste. His powerful legs punted him forwards with immense pace, leaving a mighty plume of sandy dust trailing behind him. In the dark, it was hard to see all the cacti, stones and branches that littered the floor of the trailing canyon pathways. But Kirak knew these paths, and leapt over or around each and every single obstacle – finally, something he could do right. Suddenly, something gripped tightly to his right leg, causing him to slam yet again face-first into the ground, sparks flying as he skidded across the stony path. The pain in his leg was incredible, searing through to his very core. He turned over, and looked down to his leg, only to meet eye-to-eye with a vicious animal trap that had clamped it’s maw to his ankle. He kicked his leg, attempting to dislodge the vile little machine, only for it to grip tighter. Kirak wailed as its tight hold began to pierce his metallic exoskeleton. Through reflex, he primed his right leg as if he were to make a jump… Sending a massive jolt of energy into the trap. It buzzed, steamed, clattered, and burst apart into hundreds of tiny pieces – one such piece hitting Kirak square in the face, knocking him out. 2. Night wore on in the desert region of Okoto. The various insects and creatures that lived on the land rested, and the cool night air breezed across the sand and stone, soothing the landscape’s burns from the searing sunshine of the previous day. Okotians roaming the desert returned to their camps and villages, and rested their weary heads, with sweet dreams of the mighty Toa and their victories. Many hours passed, and eventually the sun began to rise yet again over the desert, waking it and its inhabitants up from their slumbers. One inhabitant however, needed some encouragement. “Good morning, sleepyskull!” a little voice chimed, gleefully. Kirak yelped, startled by the noise, and jumped up into the canyon wall behind him. He stared down at the source of the noise, his horrified expression slumping to that of disappointment. There, standing down below, was a young Okotian, in red armour. Kirak sighed. “So that’s where all the screaming came from! We thought it was a dust coyote!” The little girl stated, looking as if she’d struck a most momentous revelation. She giggled, looking up to Kirak admiringly. “Eugh… And who do I have the… displeasure of meeting this fine morning?” Kirak grumbled, putting his arms behind his back and leaning one foot against the wall he had slumped against. The little girl puffed up her chest, before retrieving a little green flag from her back and jabbing its pole into the sand to her side. The flag had a rather crude portrayal of an Okotian’s mask sewn into it with white thread. “I am Bulip, scout of the Desert Exploration Squad of Okoto.” She proclaimed, with utmost pride. Kirak raised an eyebrow, and sniggered. Bulip inhaled, raising herself above such insolent rudeness, and stated her business, pacing in circles with her hands behind her back. “Now, monster, it is my doody - um, doo-tee - to record and analamalise all the makes of animals that I find in the desert. Now because you’re the firstest animal ever that has actually talked to me, I want you to tell me everything about yourself.” Kirak again sniggered, and then shook his head. Bulip glared crossly at Kirak, and propped her hands on her hips, pouting behind her mask. Kirak bent down to Bulip, meeting eye-to-eye with her, and smirked. “The less you know about me, Bulip, the better.” Kirak explained, condescendingly. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I must be leaving. Toodle-oo.” Bulip stamped her foot, and shook her head. “No. I want to know what you are! Tell me!” She wailed. Kirak could tell that she was on the verge of tears. He rolled his eyes, and turned to walk away. As Kirak walked down the path, finding a suitable spot to again begin sprinting, he could hear the little pitter-patter of angry footsteps behind him, along with some sniffling. “It’s not fair! IT’S NOT FAIR!” Bulip screamed. Kirak skidded to a halt, holding his clawed hands to his ears in reaction to the sharp wail of the little red airhorn stood behind him. “By Makuta! Just… Bugger off!” Kirak shouted, shooing Bulip away with his hand. “NO!” Bulip yelled, again stamping her foot. “You are going to tell me all about you, otherwise… Otherwise…” “Otherwise… What?” Kirak barked. “Otherwise… I’ll bash you on the head!” Bulip threatened. Kirak stared at Bulip. She was breathing heavily, her little green flag clenched tightly in her hand. He then exploded with laughter, before shooting the little Okotian square in the face with his charge revolver, knocking her unconscious and sending her flying back several feet. She landed in the sand, with a black, circular burn seared into her mask, smoking. “That was worth it.” He sneered, before turning to sprint away. 3. The canyons in the desert region of Okoto are a complex system of tunnels and ravines that stretch across a vast distance. Pathways near the edges ramp up towards the level of the ground around the canyon, allowing easy access to this labyrinthine scar on the landscape. One must not be fooled however, for these paths are treacherous and long, and it is easy to get lost. Memorizing a route through the canyon is paramount if one must traverse it. Kirak’s knowledge of his particular path through the canyon served him well. He ran with more caution now though, for not only did the daytime sun pose the risk of him being spotted, but Kirak also feared that he may meet another one of those peculiar traps – or even worse, another child. He planned in his head that, if he did meet anything unprecedented, he’d either jump over it, or crush it into the sandy floor in his stride. He practiced this a few times, imagining the more humanoid cacti to be little green people, squishing under his strong feet. It made the journey much less stressful. Eventually, Kirak met his exit to canyon – a cliff face at the end of the path, with lots of outcrops he used as steps up and out of the canyon. Kirak began his ascent, using his powerful digitigrade legs to spring himself from step to step. Halfway up though, he found something surprising waiting for him – a black, grimy Okotian mask. “Not my colour.” He joked, picking the artefact up to inspect it. He noted the difference in shaping and intricacy in this mask to the more modern masks younger Okotians wore. It bore much simpler carvings, and the eye slits were more circular in shape. This intrigued him, so he stowed the mask on his back and continued his ascent. Eventually, Kirak reached the lip of the canyon, and looked out across the desert ahead of him. He looked back, and noted the vast distance that he’d traveled. He inhaled deeply, and smiled, before turning again to sprint across the desert. But just as he went to take a powerful step, his springy leg failed him, and he face planted into the scorching sands. He was pretty exhausted. “I think now would be an excellent time for some… Sunbathing.” He said, rolling onto his back, crossing his legs and propping his hands behind his head. He then noticed his new treasure poking into him, and pulled it out to look at it. The craftsmanship was truly awful. He wondered if this was what the Okotians had resorted to after their celebrities, the Mask Makers, killed each-other. He chuckled at the thought, before tossing the mask aside and continuing with his rest. Eventually, the sun began to set again, and the air began to cool. Kirak stood up, shaking any sand lodged in his armour free. Laying in the sun had replenished his body with energy, and also cleared his head somewhat. But now the air was cool, running would be much easier – both on his joints, and for his safety. He scanned across the desert, looking for his target. Lo and behold, there it was, the crater from Ekimu’s defeat, just ahead of him. Kirak checked his charge revolver – two shots left. “Should be enough, just in case.” He commented, before resuming his journey. 4. The Great Cataclysm is the name given to the tremendous shockwave of energy sent out across Okoto when Ekimu knocked the Mask of Ultimate Power from the face of his brother, Makuta. It is thought that this shockwave was the dreaded mask releasing its evil power across the land, which awoke many evil creatures such as the Skull Spiders, and allowed Makuta to manipulate evil even from beyond the grave. At the epicenter of the Great Cataclysm, a tremendous crater was formed, in which Ekimu’s body laid dormant before it’s recovery by the Protectors. It is said that residual energy from both the Mask of Ultimate Power and the Mask of Creation emanates here, and that this could only be utilized by one of tremendous power. Kirak tripped over a spear that had been left in the sand. He cursed at it, before picking it up and breaking it in two. He had such a clean run before that thing showed up. Otherwise, he was close – very close. He could smell the magical energies on the air. With every stride he made, he felt a mysterious presence come closer and closer to him. It drove him, fueling his thirst for the power that legend had promised him. After much trial and tribulation, Kirak had reached the crater, looking over it with joyous eyes. He laughed. “It’s tiny! I guess when an Okotian says that something is ‘gigantic’, one mustn’t expect much.” He joked, looking down into the dim pit below his feet. He leapt in, landing dead in the center of the crater where Ekimu once laid. Kirak noted Ekimu’s silhouette, scorched into the bare rock beneath his feet. Something however was off about the dead celebrity’s shadow – where was the Mask of Creation? “WHO GOES THERE?” A loud voice exclaimed, startling Kirak. Kirak yelped yet again. “Wh-who enquires?” Kirak retorted, clambering to his feet. “MY NAME IS NOT IMPORTANT, CREATURE.” Boomed the mysterious voice deafeningly. Kirak looked around frantically, looking for a source of the voice. “WELL?” It pressed, causing Kirak’s mask to shake. Kirak unsheathed his charge revolver, just in case. “I am Kirak, the Scavenger! I have come here to take what is unclaimed!” Kirak proclaimed proudly to the heavens, arms raised and stance spread. “SCAVENGER! YOU ARE A FOOL! THERE IS NOTHING WORTH CLAIMING HERE! YOU HAVE COMMITTED A FOOL’S ERRAND!” Kirak pondered, finger on his chin. “So... Shouty voice in the sky. If this place has nothing worth stealing—“ “SILENCE! YOU HAVE TRESPASSED UPON SACRED LAND, ON A FALSE PROMISE OF GREAT POWER!” Kirak was taken aback. Had he really travelled this far on a false promise? Was the ‘power’ he felt earlier just a symptom of his excitement? He pondered. “To whom is this land sacred?” “TO ME.” “And who are you?” There was a pause. Kirak heard shuffling coming from outside of the crater. “UH… Guys, what should I say? Oh okay. N-NONE OF YOUR CONCERN, FOUL CREATURE.” Kirak raised an eyebrow, and again pondered. He then raised his hand, and outstretched one finger. “How many fingers am I holding up?” He asked, slyly. He heard quiet sniggering from over the lip of the crater, followed by shushing. This embarrassed him. “I HAVE NOT TIME FOR YOUR GAMES, THIEF!” Kirak smiled, and leapt straight up in the air. Lo and behold, a trio of young Okotian adolescents were huddled just over the edge of the crater, one with a horn over his mouth. Pranksters. “Neither do I!” Kirak exclaimed as he fell down. On landing, he took another leap up and out of the crater, towards to Okotians, to find them armed with spears – one of which had half a handle. “S-stay back!” Shouted the green Okotian with the horn. His was the voice that had been shouting at Kirak. “Oh, well I apologize little one, because I don’t tend to take orders from those I can crush.” Kirak responded, aiming his charge revolver. He was however, not alone in possessing such a weapon. Both of the green Okotian’s friends revealed their shoulder-mounted elemental shooters, which they aimed towards Kirak. A desert standoff, with one in the middle. The green Okotian threw his horn to the ground, and charged at Kirak with his spear. Just as he got close, Kirak grabbed the spear and used it to swing its wielder around into the crater. Just as this happened, Kirak began to recieve fire from the two elemental shooters. The shots were hot, but weren’t doing any real damage. Kirak casually raised his charge revolver, and shot each of his attackers square in the face, much to the same effect as with Builip that morning. “No ammunition.” Kirak stated quietly, sheathing the depleted charge revolver on his hip. “You’ll pay for that, monster!” The green Okotian insisted. Kirak turned to see the diminutive trickster wielding his spear in his shaky hands, clambering over the lip of the crater. Kirak sniggered, and unsheathed his dagger. To his opponent, Kirak’s dagger was more like a massive sword, which filled him with terror. Kirak noticed this. Suddenly, the air stood completely still. Just before he thought he would vanquish his dwarven foe, a seething pain coursed through Kirak’s body. He yelped – or rather, screamed – and fell to his knees, writhing in pain. Blue and red sparks surged through his body, bursting out through the cracks in his exoskeleton. Kirak’s life of crime yet again flashed before his eyes, this time tainted with images of a truly foul face, and the striking of two hammers on metal. As he writhed and convulsed, Kirak felt his body creak and shake with the immense energy coursing through it. “Th-the power… I-IT’S MINE!” Kirak shouted, before laughing manically amidst his pain. But it was not as it seemed. Armour shells exploded from Kirak’s body, still buzzing with magical energy as they landed in the sand. The green Okotian stood, watching the tall beast before him fall apart. Kirak slowly stood up, and attempted to reach out to something unseen, before finally crumbling into pieces. His mask fell to the ground, crackling with red and blue streaks of magical energy, before all subsided into silence. The green villager stood, aghast. He exhaled. His friends woke up from their induced slumber, with throbbing pain in their heads and singed marks on their masks. “Kungo? You… Okay?” One of them spoke. “Yeah, what… What happened?” The other enquired, adjusting her home-made black mask. “I’m good. And… I don’t know.” Replied Kungo, picking up the mask that lay in the pile of scrap before him. It was as cold and as dead as ice, but its gaze still pierced into Kungo’s being. - END -
  7. Now that the first Okoto chapter book is out, the new storyline feels a lot more fleshed out. However, there are a few instances where information in the book contradicts previously established plot details: - "The Legend" animation shows the island of Okoto to have all 6 elemental regions before Makuta forges the Mask of Ultimate Power. But The Island of Lost Masks states that Okoto was only jungle and water before the great cataclysm, with the resulting shockwaves reshaping the land to create the stone, ice, earth, and fire regions. - The Bionicle website shows the Ancient City to be located in the water region, but The Island of Lost Masks states that the city is in the jungle region. - The Protector of Jungle set has two sensor tails attached to his ankles. But in The Island of Lost Masks, Vizuna is described as having only one tail, attached to his lower back. - Skull Grinder is only given his proper name (Kulta) in a promotional spread for Lego Club Magazine. Both the chapter book and the animations refer to him only as Skull Grinder. -That same promotional spread hinted at a "fallen hero" backstory for Skull Slicer, implying that he may not be purely evil. But in the animations he's a one-dimensional cackling villain with no dialogue who gets defeated after only 2 episodes. When we get different versions of the same story, which one should be counted as "canon"? We don't have Greg this time around to clarify anything so I feel lost.
  8. The Skull Scorpio has gotten some flack for lack of posability, abnormally large tail, etc., so I decided to start designing a new scorpion creature... thanks to some spare parts and a "certain" Star Wars set I purchased today. It's color scheme should bring back some nostalgia for Generation 1 fans. So here is the newest creature to be cataloged from Okoto... The Okotian Demon Scorpion! Named for its gigantic horns, this large creature roams tunnels and caves in the Region of Stone. During the day, they come out to feed by burying themselves beneath the desert sand and striking with their tail and large hairy forearms. Their typical prey are Skull Scorpios. Thanks to their massive mandibles, they are able to crush bones and absorb the calcium from them. They are very aggressive and territorial and will often attack any villager that stumbles into their way. Although rare, they are known to prey on villagers, but only when starving. When attacking larger prey like villagers, the demon scorpion can lift its upper body and attack in a centaur-type fashion. Even a Toa would find this creature a challenge. The poison from its tail causes its victim's body to heat up which causes dehydration from lots of sweating. Villagers of Fire have some resistance and take longer to dehydrate, but the venom seems to affect their biology as well.
  9. Note: Knowledge of Kingdom Hearts helps Clavis is a mysterious Toa that arrived in Okoto soon after Tahu and his team. His origins are unknown, but he controls the element of lightning, wields a Keyblade, and wears a mysterious mask that is able to change shape and powers at will. He tends to keep to himself, however, Gali stumbled upon him one day... and he seemed to be having a conversation with his mask... His armor also seems to adapt to any new environment. 10. This is my first epic I hope you enjoy it. Each chapter has the name of a toa; whichever toa's name appears for the chapter is who's thoughts are being narrated (3rd person omniscient) (If you've read the Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan, you know what style I'm referring to). Enjoy the story Here's my review topic! The Masters of Okoto: The Lost Chronicles 1: Gali Gali walked quietly through the mountains contemplating where her destination really was. She knew she was looking for someone named Ekimu in an ancient city, but she didn’t know more than that. Kivoda, the Protector of Water, had mentioned that she wouldn’t be alone on her quest and Gali started thinking about that. There are others? Why haven’t I met them yet? What if we can’t work together? The more she thought about it, the more upset she got as she walked. She finally decided to sit on a rock and meditate on the matter for a few minutes. As she sat, she looked around and thought the view looked rather grand. From up there she could see the jungle, lush and green. The trees looked just as fluffy as the two clouds that were in the sky at the moment. On the other side of a rocky ridge was her village: her new home. It was a mostly rocky beach, but there were some sandy places in the distance just barely visible. The aqua-grey landscape glowed like the water that connected to it. Just seeing the region like this put her mind at ease, but not for long; it then raised a question: Why would anyone attack such a beautiful place? She pushed the thought out of her head and decided it was best to relax and meditate on the more pressing matters: she began to focus on what she should say to the others that Kivoda had mentioned. She closed her eyes and began to meditate. As she began to relax she heard something…music? She knew she must have been going mad. No, she heard harmonies and melodies coming further down the trail she was walking. She couldn’t concentrate on her meditation with that music playing and she was now curious as to who could be playing it so well. She didn’t know anyone in her village that could play that well; it was as if a God was playing this music! She decided to continue down the trail and check it out for herself. She trekked further into the mountains towards the sound of the music. It sounded as if it were just over the next stony ridge. She climbed it and just as she was about to peak over the ridge, she heard footsteps coming toward her from the left. She concentrated hard; she could feel a small well of water buried under the ground. If she were to be in trouble, she would utilize it against the enemy. She looked toward her left and couldn’t believe her eyes. Casually walking toward her was a figure similar to herself; only green and orange. He had a mischievous look to him as if he were up to no good, but he had a golden glowing mask just like the one she had to get before leaving for the city. “Hello,” he waved. “Lovely day for walk-hike in the mountains.” Gali, still dazed, shook her head and chuckled, “I suppose it is.” “I’m Toa Lewa, the master of jungle,” he said as he stuck is hand forward. “Gali, toa of water,” she met his hand and they shook. “Do you happen to hear-see music?” he asked. “Yeah. I was about to look over this ridge when I heard you approaching.” She looked at Lewa and chuckled. “Your footsteps startled me. Glad we’re on the same side.” The toa of jungle chuckled in agreement. “Let’s see what’s making that sound.” The two toa climbed up and stood on the ridge, looking down into a small rocky valley with a few trees in its center. The trees were the only thing in the landscape that wasn’t grey…except for the being sitting on a rock near the trees.
  11. Hello there! I'm not new to the site, but I'm new to writing epics. My epic can be read here. Please leave me any feedback, feel free to interpret things, give me ideas (no promises I'll use them), and whatnot.
  12. http://mate397.deviantart.com/art/Garu-Garu-548070462 *Garu Garus are docile and curious creature, which eventually led to their domestication by the Water Region villagers. Most of these reptilian/avian animals barely grow bigger than an average villager but sometimes bigger ones hatch from the nest and those become steeds for guards and annual games the villagers play. Though they look harmless now, Garu Garus weren't always like this, before becoming a humble herbivore, this creature was a very loose relative of the Crimson Raptor species inheriting it's sharp-teeth and carnivore nature, however after the Skull Spiders began to invade the island of Okoto, the Garu Garu were forced to become omnivore and soon herbivore to survive as the constant waves of spiders kept scaring off their prey.* Man I'm lazy x.x I had this little guy built for quite a while but I either didn't feel like taking photos of it or didn't have the time due to work/sleep after work. Never the less it's a cute little fella =D Details: http://mate397.deviantart.com/art/Garu-Garu-Side-548070605 http://mate397.deviantart.com/art/Garu-Garu-Back-548070675 http://mate397.deviantart.com/art/Garu-Garu-Size-548070761 http://mate397.deviantart.com/art/Ekimu-s-mighty-steed-548070815 http://mate397.deviantart.com/art/Ekimu-s-overweight-548070880
  13. All pics link to Flickr! Description: The villagers of Okoto play this ancient sport to bring pride to their villages. The first villager to shoot a gem through the hoop three times wins the ceremonial mask. They are armed with weapons to knock away the opponent's gems and shooters to fire their gems through the hoop. Two score counters are also included. Background: This year I was able to attend the LEGO Inside Tour for the first time. The 34-person group I was in, which toured from the 19th of May to the 22nd, was the second tour group for 2015 and the 28th since the LEGO Inside Tour began. The most thrilling part of the LEGO Inside Tour, for me, was getting to meet and spend time with so many LEGO designers and others who help to make the LEGO Group the company that it is. However, the biggest surprise for me was connected with the building competition at the end of the first day. All tour participants were invited to think like a LEGO designer and design a potential set to meet certain constraints. The designers would judge them the next day before announcing the winners at an awards ceremony that evening. The parts provided for us included many BIONICLE pieces, but I was one of the only builders to create a primarily BIONICLE-based creation, since that is the style of building that comes most naturally to me. When I finished my model at around 10:20pm, a lot of other builders were still working on their own creations, so I didn't get to see what my model was up against until the awards ceremony. To my amazement, the model I created won first prize! It was the first BIONICLE creation to win first prize in the history of the LEGO Inside Tour. The designers liked that it had a clear play scenario and hit the desired price point almost exactly. I was awarded a LEGO set and a brick-built trophy printed with the Inside Tour logo. And yes, they let me keep my creation! Bonus pics:
  14. http://mate397.deviantart.com/art/Crimson-Raptor-541571643 *Among the feiry hills of the Region of Fire, lives a close relative of the Desert Baras called Crimson Raptor. This reptile species, however is carnivorous, unlike it's desert cousin. Crimson Raptors have muscular legs for running fast as well as jumping on their prey with great force or just to hop from rock to rock through a lava river. At the heel they have a claw that can inject poison into it's prey so even if the prey tries to get away the poison will slow it down. The tail has two claws at the end which they use for a tail spin slash to injure or scare off any unwanted company. Crimson Raptors are aggressively territorial and will attack instantly, this discovery has led to many injuries and even fatal encounters. * Surprisingly this one I actually didn't really plan to make as I was trying to make a MOC somewhat based on the idea of an Ankylosaurus/Scowl from TF RID. But somehow I ended up with a revamp version of another older MOC that was from the Bara Magna era, since I already made one from that, I might as well make the 3rd one too. 15. http://mate397.deviantart.com/art/Okoto-Mountain-Bat-538734937 *Before the Ancient City was abandoned some of the citizens had various pets, one of which was a species of bats which was loyal and obedient to it's owner. After the Ancient City was left empty the pet bats and other pets scattered across the island of Okoto evolving according to their new environment. Most of the bats settled in the higher caves of the mountains, and to match the terrain their colors altered for a more fitting camouflage.* This little was originally inspired by a character from one of the Transformers RID episodes, called NightStrike. But I also wanted to make a smaller MOC so I kept the size roughly around the same as the Silverbeak Buzzard. I tried my best to give the creation accurate batwings as much as possible, and I think it came out nicely, it's not perfect true, but it works just fine. 16. Before I get started on the legend-y stuff, I'd like to give a word about this creation. I recently acquired the Protector of Earth and the Protector of Water. This creation is built exclusively with pieces from those two sets. If anyone asks, and I am in the mood, I may post instructions for this built. I only left out a skull spider mask, a few red pins, a couple small black ones, and a brain. All other pieces have been used. I'm really quite happy with how this guy turned. So much so that I invented a legend behind him. Long ago, in the Time before Time on the mythical island of Okoto, legend speaks of the Guardians. Eons before the two mask makers, Ekimu and Makuta, set forth on the island to bring the three virtues, the island lay in chaos. Strange creatures bearing elemental powers tormented the defenseless villagers. To defend themselves, the wisest of the six tribes chanted a potent spell, engineering a combination between villager and beast. These new half-breeds they called the Guardians, for the Order of Protectors had not yet been formed. A hundred of these beings were formed, and their elemental power and brute force drove the creatures into hiding beneath the earth and in the deepest forests. The villagers rejoiced, thinking they were safe. They celebrated too soon. The Guardians, programmed to defend could not acknowledge a time of peace. Thus, they enlisted the wisest villagers to engineer weapons of mass destruction from the island's elemental forces. With these, the Guardians began to lord it over the villagers they once defended. They built a great fortress at the center of the Okoto, from which they ruled the island. The enslaved villagers cried out under the whips of the Guardians. From across the sea, their call was answered. The two brothers, Ekimu and Makuta came bearing the great masks of Creation and Control, from which they forged the elemental masks. The villagers, equipped with their new powers, overturned the citadel of the Guardians, burying them deep beneath the rubble. Above the ruins, the Mask Maker's built their own metropolis above the fortress, from which they forged the Great Masks. From the six wisest villagers, they formed the Order of Protectors, to whom they entrusted six masks of special power. “When times are dark,” they said, “Gather at the Temple of Time to call forth six heros from the stars. Until then, hide these masks far away where no one could ever find them.” The Protectors returned to their home regions and did as they had been instructed. What they did not count on, however, was that something would be coming to look for them I hope you all enjoyed that. Those of you who were able to watch the 9th episode will see where I was going with this. I really like what I did with the feet. Thanks to Nescent and his awesome use of Protector masks in his Wildlife of Okoto thread inspired me. Check it out here: http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/17041-wildlife-of-okoto/ I plan on making some more of these combiners as I acquire the rest of the Protectors. In the meantime, stay cool.
  17. http://imgur.com/a/ua4ZK Just got done with this project that's been in the works since January! (Took so long mostly because of procrastination ) Character bios are coming soon! Constructive criticism and feedback is welcome. Also just added the bios for each character along with their stats, so take a look!
  18. I was messing around with the CCBS parts and I came up with this creature. http://imgur.com/a/Oghvg I thought of him being a creature from another island or an ancient warrior of Okoto with the ability to run at super-sonic speeds. He'd probably act like an evil Quicksilver, I don't have much of a character fleshed out for him. I imagine him running at high-speed and disemboweling his enemies.
  19. http://mate397.deviantart.com/art/Chrova-the-Protector-of-Time-534251237 *Far far away from the shores of Okoto, there is a small island with a temple built on it. That temple is the home of the Protector of Time. He lives in solitude so he can be in harmony with the universe. One day a pleading call echoed in his temple, the inhabitants of Okoto were in need of heroes to save them from a great menace. Soon he heard the village elders' prayer and he used his powers to summon those great heroes the people of the island needed so desperately.* Since we are getting all these on the nose references about the Vahi (which honestly only the old fans get, new comers will have next to no clue what it's supposed to be) I had this idea of a character guarding/being in control of the mask. Though since I don't have an actual Vahi I had to settle with the adaptive Kakama Nuva. 21. (All pics link to Flickr) Function Video (5 seconds) I was realizing the day before yesterday that the 2015 Toa have one strategic advantage over the 2015 BIONICLE villains: none of the villains appear to be able to fly. So I thought I'd even the odds. Obviously, I had to use a few placeholder parts, but I still think it conveys the general idea I was going for. Skull Ripper includes 87 pieces total, and so I imagine she would hit about the same $15 price point as the other skull villains. Skull Ripper's torso features the same Technic function as Skull Basher's, but here it serves two very different purposes. From a standing position, it allows Skull Ripper to stab an opponent with her talons. In flight, it allows her to flap her wings. Ideally, I'd prefer Skull Ripper to use Tr. Blue instead of Tr. Light Blue, but from a practical standpoint I found that I had a more useful range of pieces in Tr. Light Blue. Thoughts, comments, criticism? Please share! This is my first MOC I've completed to my satisfaction in a few months, so I'm very proud of it, but I'm sure there's room for improvement!
  22. The thing I hate most about G2 is the complete lack of any backstory of the island. So far, the only story material we have are the brief blurbs on each Toa and Protector on Lego.com and the videos, which doesn't provide much. Of all of the villagers on all of Okoto, the only one with some hint of characterization is the Protector of Fire. This is precisely why everyone loves MNOLG so much. It gave a look into the lives of the everyday villagers, the ones who fished or sailed or sold or who could fight off the Rahi just fine without the Toa's help. The Toa weren't the only heroes of the story, fighting for some villagers smacked in only to have something to fight for. So I've been thinking about it a bit in my course of drawing and building characters. What exactly could this character's personality be like? Let's start with the Protectors. Of course, this is all my own headcanon and is in no way official, but until we get something clearer, I'm treating it as canon. Protectors: These elite villagers of Okoto are called to be guardians of their people and culture. Each Protector is chosen from the family of the previous, typically the first born, though special circumstances have occurred in the past. When the current Protector reaches a certain age, they select their successor and pass on their mask and weapons in a grand ceremony attended by the whole island. Their names are replaced by their title, a show of their commitment to leave their previous life and turn towards their people. Each mask was crafted from sacred materials by Ekimu himself, distinguishing them from the typical villager masks. Protector of Fire: One of the most experienced Protectors, the Protector of Fire has seen much of the world. He has been fighting for his village for decades, always looking for the time when the Masters would come to liberate them forever. He has searched every prophesy and is filled with much ancient wisdom. In battle, he is fierce and unrelenting. His large frame is surprisingly agile, able to twist around enemy blows, yet deliver punishing strikes with his swords, just like his element. His Mask of Fire was forged from crystals found in the heart of the Okoto volcanoes. It is rare to see one come to the surface of the lava, and rarer still to obtain it. It is said the very essence of fire is captured within those fractals, a power the Protector of Fire uses to great effect. His flame swords are mounted on swiveling handles, allowing him to twirl them around in combat to redouble the force of his strikes. A slow spin is usually enough to frighten away the creatures that lurk in the dark, but when Skull Spiders come to battle, they are met with the white-hot blades as they whirl in blazing tornadoes in his hands. Protector of Earth: The eldest of the current Protectors, the Protector of Earth is brash and loud. His rumbling voice is often heard echoing through the caverns of the Earth Region. Despite his... rough personality, his devotion to his people is unquestionable. He is always at the forefront of every battle, blasting away with his chest cannon or shredding through opponents with his drill. When the village is at peace, he can often be found in the mines, digging away alongside his fellows. The Protector of Earth's drill, armor, and mask are formed from the rarest of Okoto's gems, a hardy and lustrous purple stone found only in the deepest caverns. Some have questioned if they bury themselves there, pushing away from unworthy hands with powers of Earth. If his launcher ever runs out of energy, he has throwing knives in ready supply and has become quite adept at their use. Protector of Stone: Though rarely seen in his home village, his skills with his staff are not to be questioned. Since the current Protector of Stone was instated, not a single Skull Spider has been seen within the village boundaries, though occasionally a villager will stumble upon an old carcass, killed in one blow with his deadly accuracy. When he can be found, he barely speaks, and only then in a hoarse whisper. The Mask of Stone was forged from the purest sand caught in a rare phenomenon: arcs of pure energy that cut across the Stone Region's deserts. Perhaps it is caused by the heat, but many affirm it is some ancient magic of the land. His staff-mounted elemental sandstone blaster is effective at close and long range. The long energy prongs, formed of the same energy that created his mask, are able to slice through most substances, though he rarely needs to use them. Protector of Ice: No one expected her sudden calling to be the next Protector of Ice, least of all herself. Even before taking on the mantle, she was shy and unsure of herself. Her aim with anything was shaky, her carving skills were cringe-worthy, and she couldn't seem to manage to get anywhere without falling on the ice. Her new responsibility has helped little. Though her new weapons make things slightly easier, she can't help but feel she was the worst possible villager for the job. Perhaps her purpose will only be apparent in time. Truly, it is only her weapons that give her hope of success, for it is difficult to fail with enchanted ice at your side. Legends say the mask, ice blade, and shield appeared from the ice at Ekimu's approach. They are bitterly cold to the touch and show no signs of melting even after generations of use. Protector of Jungle: The fastest gal in the land; Brynn was known as a messenger long before she took up the title of Protector of Jungle. She knows half the island like the back of her hand, and the other half well enough to get a message to anyone. Some of the other Protectors claim she shirks her duty to her people in favor of exploring the island or socializing, but whenever there is an attack, the Protector of Jungle is always there, appearing as if from the jungle itself. Her Mask of Jungle is carved from the sacred wood of the Jungle Region's Spirit Trees. These great monoliths are said to twist the junglearound them, only allowing those who are worthy to approach. This same ability to control the greenery is contained in her mask, and its wise guidance whispers to her through the vines trailing from her form. Her bow, the weapon of every Protector of Jungle, at first appears to be merely a tangle of vines and thorns, but with the assistance of her power, it is able to fire straight and true with greater power than any crafted before or since. (Yes, this was inspired by Bynn the Breaker from Bastion, as well as gk733 on DA) Protector of Water: The newest of the current line of Protectors and by far the youngest. She almost seems too youthful and naive to possibly save anyone, but she has proven herself a prodigy in swimming and combat. Her new tools only enhance her already great skill. She would be a formidable force to reckon with if she could just stay focused. Far too many times she has swam off to explore the sea floor, only to return to find a battle had been fought and won without her. Though she is young, the people can only forgive her curiosity so many times. On closer inspection, one would find her seemingly solid mask ripples softly. Its entire shape is formed by water, held together by some unknown power. The villagers had watched Ekimu as he walked through them wordlessly and stood at the shore as if waiting. Then, the Mask of Water washed up to him on a wave, and he handed it to the first Protector of Water. Her torpedo launcher and turbines pull her through the water at seemingly impossible speeds, and she had grown accustomed to using the new weapons.
  23. http://imgur.com/a/af80B Not much for me to say here, I explained the functions over on Imgur. This model holds all of the new Toa Okoto. I actually had this complete about a month ago, but buddy over on Bricklink decided to mess up my order for the last Bohrok shield I needed and I'm already working on a better version, but at least everyone can see the first version
  24. So, finally I made revamps of all Toa, because for me there was few things to fix. I was trying to not making too big changes and left them as much original as I could. 25. Hey, everypony! Sorry, brony reference. Anyway, after digging through this site I've found out how to start a new topic, so I wanted to discuss my theory. I think that Lewa has been made a Toa of plantlife in the 2015 reboot, or "The green" as the Matoran used to call it. Speaking of Lewa, do you think that the new Toa will get Nuva forms in 2016, or will it just be new enemies from here on out?
