The next mask on my list is Flintsmith's Trans-Purple Kaukau. Once I get my hands on this mask, I am content in calling my collection complete. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find one?

So I was reading comic 14: At last Takanuva! and I came across this panel: \ The comic depicts Takanuva using the Shadow Kraata that Pohatu had retrieved from the ruptured Kraata containers earlier in the comic. Now in the movie, the Toa seem to use just one of the Kraata that came from the Rahkshi, but it made me stop and think: can a shadow Kraata infect the Kanohi Avohkii? It obviously didn't do it in the comic (or movie) and I'd imagine that a normal Kraata couldn't because they'd have to touch the mask and it is constantly glowing with it's own light which they probably couldn't handle. But what about Shadow Kraata that can infect Kanohi over a distance? I personally think no, as the masks light power should be too much for it to infect, but what do you all think?

Okay, so I want to clear up something that's been confusing me for a while. When Toa Krakua "came out" in 2005, i.e. was shown for the first time and simultaneously canonized, he was obviously wearing a Kanohi Hau (and generally resembled a cyberpunk Tahu but that's another story). At the time, that was explained away as him having a "Hau-shaped Kanohi Suletu" and I believe the Kanohi Suletu was in fact introduced with Toa Krakua (was that LEGO's idea, btw, or was it all John Dexter's head canon made real canon?). After the Toa Inika came out in 2006 and we were shown that Toa Kongu wears a Kanohi Suletu, albeit organic, Toa Krakua was almost immediately retconned to wear a regular (non-organic) Kanohi Suletu and not a Hau-shaped one. So up until maybe a year ago, I was under the impression that the latter statement was considered canon, until I started finding conflicting information and at a certain point I even thought Toa Krakua's mask was re-retconned to a Hau-shaped Suletu once again. So... which is it, in the end? Thanks. :)

I've been thinking recently that it looks like LEGO may not have had an entirely clear idea on how to handle the different variations of the Kanohi Kaukau from the get go and I suspect they may have even experimented with matching the mask color to the color on at least some Toa Mata, which might explain why we got a trans-yellow Kaukau even though none of the Toa are even remotely yellow. Considering how only some of the solid Toa colors can be approximated with transparent plastic (looking at you, Pohatu) and also considering the fact that the six Kaukau are already the odd six out of thirty-six by design, do any of you think that it may have been a better idea to just match those to the eye color of each Toa instead? Of course, that would've required that some Toa have better eye colors to begin with (looking at you, Tahu), but does anyone agree that that would've been an overall interesting and perhaps more consistent approach? If we consider the eye color of each Toa their "tertiary color," then that decision would've made sense in terms of uniformity and consistency. Personally, I can easily imagine a scenario where the Toa Mata had Toa Metru eye colors and each Kaukau matched each Toa's eyes. Here's how that would've looked: Lewa with a trans dark red Kaukau Kopaka with a trans medium/light blue Kaukau Gali with a trans orange Kaukau Tahu with a trans light green Kaukau Onua with a trans dark green Kaukau Pohatu with a trans dark blue Kaukau Perhaps it's a little counter-intuitive, but I do see a great deal of appeal in this approach. What do you guys think?

Does anyone know the percent chances of getting specific masks from the mask packs and their rarity? Mostly asking the math nerds out there. I know that the 2001 mask packs had all of the alternate colors for each toa and turaga mask, but what about misprints? US versus European? I know the vahi was randomly hidden in the 2001 mask packs, https://bionicle.fandom.com/wiki/Kanohi_Pack. And then of course the kanohi nuva mask packs, how rare are the protodermic kanohi nuva? I know the miru is more common than the others. Mostly I'm just looking for some straight up percentages for each mask possible. Any help would be great.

HelLO tHerE SwEeT ChILd... So today I visited a secondhand Lego store in my area. They had a small lot of Bionicle parts, with an unusual amount of Noble Huna's. A blue one (and a near complete McToran Maku body to boot, only missing the disk for Love Isn't Canon Day too!), an orange Huna, and the marbled black & silver one from Tehutti. I shoved them all into my parts bag and bought them, only to realize later, upon close inspection the Tehutti Huna was damaged. Honestly the only way I can describe it, since its not super visible from the photos, is it looks like somebody stepped on it! Ouch! The right side of the mask got stretched out and bent with several scratches. I already have a intact Tehutti Huna from that set, so the gears in my head started turning and I realized this broken piece offered an opportunity to do something unique. I found some Citadel brand paint at a local gaming store, and got to work: After a few layers of paint (turns out Citadel has some really neat mud textured colors), and I felt I got a really neat broken infected mask. Had to try it out on my G2 Vakama and the Tehutti set: Now Tehutti: Here it is side by side with the pristine Tehutti mask I have: Lastly, alone on a mask stand. Looking at it straight on you can really tell how the right side of the mask (our left) is stretched out due to the damage it has:

Ok I'm sitting on a I dea I intend to use for a finally realized series, I am getting ready to finally make Bionicle: Legacy of Mata Nui which some of you like Bonesiii (How ya doing my friend) may remember as a proposed collaboration comic set in a Universe where Teridax was not in the core processor when the Mask of Life started the energy storms and revived Mata Nui. I've decided to make it for now a solo project and focus on certain groups in it. One group is a Agori of the Iron Tribe (Mata Nui's Quest happens still, changing only after the defeat of Tuma and the Bone Hunters and Mata Nui vindicates the tribe and the tribe is allowed to be part of the Sphereus Magna society again) one of the races from the Matoran Universe (One of the sentient ones we never saw in the actual story but are theoretically there) and a Matoran. Their journey starts thanks to a mine shaft collapse that traps the other two and damaged the Kanohi the Matoran was wearing to a point where it won't connect to his face. Now in my story what I am going to propose is possible, and is always a last resort if no mask carvers are around. The new race (Need to think up his races name soon) fixes the mask with a little welding of a regular piece of metal to allow the Matoran to not slip into a true coma and slowly die. As I said it works but only enough to keep the Matoran's Heart light beating (By the way I must say I took a bit of inspiration for this from Nick's latest retelling of the Toa Mata's arrival and mask quest, Vakama may be a Turaga in most universes but he still is the most skilled mask maker out side Artakha) But here is the thing we all know Kanohi have their energy imparted to them by what protodermise is used in making them, any level of mask can be worn by any Kanohi wearing race but only Toa and the likes of Axxon for Great, Turaga and above for nobel can tap into the powers due to concentration. Jaller wore a Nobel Hau for 1000 years but even though it had power he could not access it even if he had known it was. We also know that if a Kanohi is damaged in certain ways it instantly looses any and all power it could contain, case in point when Vakama and the Toa Metru went to save their friends one (Forgive me I can't spell his name off top of my head and I am not able to open a new tab as I write) was put in danger by a certain Po-Matoran telling him one of the masks he had busted was actually still capable of use but as we know that was a ruse and it had a fracture that removed any power. So the big question here is in the Prime universe were cracked Kanohi (Hair line fractures are tiny and masks change shape to a degree when worn) be rendered useless period unless the fracture was mended with the skill of a great mask maker. Now I'm not asking if they retained any power, no it is clear in story a damaged Kanohi was not capable of containing a special power (The Vahi nearly destroyed a lot of things but it's legendary so it was fixable and retainded its power) no I'm asking could a matoran wear a failed great mask as if it was a powerless Kanohi from start to finish and do work and have full functions, or would it need a small repair to even keep them alive. Again Jaller wore his Hau because his old mask had completely shattered and was unrepairable so a mask with sufficient damage will be useless period but what of the slightly damaged powerless masks, like those that were sent to the reclamation yard in Metru Nui to be recycled with hairline fractures still support life and if so what would happen should that mask be worn by a Matoran who became a Toa? It has a lot of possibility, also while we are on Masks did anyone besides me notice in Vakama's Forge in City of Legends that one mask looked an awful lot like the Crana Ca, which in turn looks like a alternative shape for a Hau? Alway kind of like the idea a Mask maker got creative one time and while forging a Kanohi Hau he decided to make it look like the Krana they had glimpsed one time in the Archives.

Ok everyone here is my attempt at bringing a new group of Topics together, Topics meant to "Spark Creativity" and show off something you came up with and are proud of as well as asking advice on how to improve if you feel it's not the best (Just a not you may not feel it is great but you are your own worst critic, so others may think it is brilliant) in the true spirit of Bionicle and Lego as a whole. So here goes I hope this will be a great series. Our first topic in the series Kanohi Masks, whether the power of amazing almost supernatural feats or just very awesome design Kanohi Masks are the single most common element in the Matoran Universe with Matoran, Toa, Turaga, and many other races wearing them keeps them alive and can grant power if one's mind is less clouded and focused. But while many wear the same Masks no two Matoran's face are identical and have a unique appearance based on who wears them, yet at the same time being clearly a certain mask. But what kinds of Kanohi have we never seen? What contours, shapes and powers have not seen. What makes a design of Kanohi just right that almost all masks with that power will be shaped with the same base, the most Iconic mask in the series the Kanohi Hau with its Helmet like curve on top, three vent lines along the cheeks and the determined look in the eyes that almost screams "Come at me, I can take it" this mask really gives off a air of protection. But what of the other masks, do they say their nature from looks alone, and perhaps you've got a mask design with a power yould like to discuss. That is exactly what this thread is for. I would post my first mask creation if I were at my computer but I type this on my mobile so the Great Sakon will have to wait till tomorrow. Feel free to continue the thread and don't forget "Keep that Spark of creativity going till you have a flame of imagination!"

While doing the typical audit and appraisal of my mask collection, I stumbled across some odd mask/faces I had not seen in years. I remember finding these in a rather unusual lot from a local seller. They are made of gray plastic, almost a match for standard noble masks. However, they are made from a slightly more rubbery plastic. They fit a standard mata head, with an strange connector. They have no Lego markings or part numbers, aside from the little copyright sign in the middle, almost exactly where it would be on a noble ruru. The copyright sign has the same font as a Lego kanohi. The eye holes line up perfectly with a mata head. What do you think these are? All of the "masks": Individual pictures: Back: (Sorry about the fuzzy picture, my camera has trouble focusing on something so small)

Greetings, folk of BZPower! I bring you a subject on which to idly speculate... It seems reasonable to assume that the original decision to give BIONICLE characters magical masks was inspired by the ritual use of masks in real-life indigenous cultures. In such cultures, however, masks do not merely grant power of one kind or another. Rather, they allow the wearer to temporarily embody or become the god, spirit, legendary character, or revered ancestor whom the mask represents and play that being's part in a ritual performance. Now, it is certainly the case that canonically, kanohi do not have this property. But...WHAT IF THEY DID? Imagine an AU in which each Kanohi is named after a god, deified hero, or other mythological entity (and the Matoran have a pantheon extensive enough to provide all of these spirits) and designed to visually resemble them. To use the Kanohi's power is to channel/incarnate the spirit temporarily and thus have access to their power (which is the same power canonically associated with the Kanohi). What might this pantheon look like? In other words, let's have some fun coming up with spirits whom different masks might represent! I imagine this would work well in one of those reimagine-bionicle-characters-as-humans AUs that folk sometimes come up with, in which characters don't necessarily wear their masks all the time. I'll start us off with a few & probably post more later (feel free to come up with interpretations different from mine or to expand on mine): Hau = Obviously some sort of courageous warrior god who provides protection in battle. (Charms and amulets to protect against enemy warriors' blows are actually really common in real-world cultures, too.) Kaukau = A spirit of the sea, presumably. Or maybe the central figure of an Earth-Diver myth. Miru = A bird spirit, given that it looks sort of "beaked" as well as having a flight-like power. Maybe the Kadin is the same, and its spiky mohawk represents a crest of feathers. Mahiki = A shapeshifting trickster god. Rau = The culture-hero who invented language. Huna = A shy fairy or goblin that always stays hidden from the sight of mortals. Would fit with Vakama's initial timidity. Komau = A guardian of divinely ordained law, maybe? Or, almost the opposite, a tricksy enchanter who could put spells over the minds of others. Or maybe a legendarily persuasive leader/rhetorician! Zatth = A Mother of Monsters type figure or spirit of the wilds. Crast = A legendary monster cursed to be hated by all beings, to the point that even inanimate objects recoil from it in revulsion.

So I just thinking about Kanohi, and looked up the prototypes of some of the masks, kanohi designs that were never used. I was just thinking about them and what powers they could be assigned if they were given a chance. So I'm going to put up the links to the pictures and my suggestions for potential powers for this unused kanohi designs: Proto-SuletuA - Smokebomb (release a cloud of smoke in a nearby area), Memory (Add, alter or remove memories from the target), Presence (create an impression on the target that affects how you are precieved or remembered) Vacuum or Intangibility (as in Tuyet's mask). Proto-Komau - Animation, Sleep/Sloth, Stasis, Stun, Density Control or Slowing targets down Proto-Akaku - Whirlwind (either turn yourself in to a living cyclone or trap opponents in a mini-tornado), Hypnosis, Disorientation, Tracking (the little eye bit on the top corner marks the target and the mask will be able to locate them), Psychometry ((as in Helryx's mask) or Weather Control. Proto-Mohtrek - Mutation (as in Miserix's mask), Entrapment (Create energy ropes that try up a target) or Elasticity. Proto-SuletuB (Far left) - Insect Control, Poison, Acid or Quick Healing. Proto-Iden (Far Right) - Intangibility (as in Tuyet's mask), Density Control, Shrink (as in this is the Great form of a Kanohi Pehkui) or Imprisonment (Trap a target in a energy sphere like a reverse Hau). Proto-Kadin - Regeneration (as in this is the Great form of a Kanohi Kiril), Smokebomb, Healing (as in the Toa Mangai's of Green mask) Burrowing(able to create tunnels in solid inanimate surfaces), Growth (as in this is the Great form of a Mask of Growth), Manifestation (create temporary physical objects that fade after a short period of time), Thermal Resistence or Density Control. Proto-Calix - Fear, Anger, Power Storage (build up power over time and release it in attacks, elemental powers or physical feats), Power Scream, Sonics, Vaccum or Psychometry (as in Helryx's mask). Proto-Elda - Symbiosis(Draw strength from the presence of allies and increase their prowess slightly in return), Calm (reduce negative emotions and pain in the target), Magnetism, Statis Field or Alchemy (changing one element into another).

There seems to be a widely accepted theory that the Kanohi Vahi has a missing upper half. Why does everyone think this? I would like to know.
