  1. Greetings, BZPower community. Let's say obvious things first. This is the review topic for my very first "epic", given that I do not like to have it called this way. The first on this forum, at least. And the first in english. The interests section of my profile is empty, but I will tell you now: I write. A lot. I dream of becoming a professional writer one day. I have already completed a novel, am working on other two (one of which is co-authored), and many short stories. All of this in italian of course. Since I am italian (well, how unexpected). I have been thinking about a Bionicle novel for quite some time now, and had a very precise idea of a total re-imagining of the G1 universe, already before Bionicle's return. Then something changed. I received inspiration. A massive surge of inspiration. The original project I had in mind? Completeley scrapped (I still have the notes for it, anyway). I was so dang inspired that I began writing on this new 'novel' right away, even when I should be working on my other works. So, here we are. It'll be interesting to develop a novel in english rather than in italian. And because of this, I do not assure that what I write is grammatically or sintaxically correct. Feel free...more free than ever to point out mistakes of the sort. What else. Oh, right. I do not know the rate at which I'll be updating this. In general I have plenty of free time (unless I find a job these days, but I don't have many hopes for this...) and, for the moment, I have the second chapter ready (in mind, still not written) and part of the third. And this is it. The epic/novel/whatever you want to call it

    Velius: Review

Premise: During the events of Voya-Nui, the current chronicler, Kopeke, had been instructed by Turaga Nuju to seek out any information that could be added to the Wall of History. While rummaging through an old forge in Ta-Metru, he comes across a tablet, revealing tales of horrible tragedies and sacrifices that have come about this island of Metru-Nui and neighboring islands. With turmoil residing both in the history explained in the tablet and in the present, this story is packed with the happenings of what could have occurred in the story of BIONICLE. Story link Author's Notes: I had this idea in my head for a little while so I'm glad I finally found an outlet to release it in. I'll be releasing each chapter probably every couple of days. I have some chapters already written but I don't want to release them all at once. I would rather release them at a steady rate, giving me enough time to work on the next one. Also I'm constantly rereading them and trying to catch any errors I might make in the story. I rarely write anything in a serious style (Or write at all) so this is somewhat newer territory. In regards to the story itself, I have the major events in the story all written out, all I need to do is just expand it. I've included in this story several hints to characters or events in the official BIONICLE storyline that never really were expanded on. Those who can identify them, kudos to you. I've done quite a bit of research as well so I think I've arranged the story to be able to actually fit into the official storyline. As I release more and more of the chapters I'll probably expand on some of the other stuff I've added that I thought were interesting subjects to include. I also tried my best to mix real characters with made up characters, we'll see how well that turns out. So, I hope you enjoy the story I have written. I'm open to comments, critiques and criticism. ~Soran
  4. I'm thrilled to return to the Epics library with a new story. This has been written over the past year and half, and is the first of a three-book series I wish to bring to BZPower. Pronunciations Please enjoy.
  5. I posted a blog entry requesting for story prompts. The quote below inspired this epic. I plan to dedicate each chapter to two of the battles between a Toa and a member of the Skull Army; I estimate that this epic will be approximately 6 or 7 chapters long. I shall be updating this epic as I write it; as such, you can expect Chapter 2 to go up within the next three days. THE CHAPTERS Story Topic 1 So - what are your thoughts? Which member of the Skull Army will each Toa fight? Which of the Toa shall fall, according to prophecy? Theorize! Comment! Critique and rip it apart! I beg of you!
  6. This took really, REEEEEAAAAALLY long to make. I wanted to cover just about every little thing about these guys I could, leaving no stone unturned (aside from the combo models, the boxes and the skull spiders, which I'll go over in the LoSS review). I wanted to make this THE definitive review of the new Toa for anyone just jumping into this. And, in case anyone's missed it, here's the Protectors review. Now, the thing to keep in mind about the Toa review... yes. It's very, very long. I am looking at all six of them in one video, after all, and there's a lot more to talk about with them than the Protectors. There's more to it than that, though. If I just went over the basic gist of the Toa themselves, the review itself would be half as long. The first twenty minutes or so are me... actually REVIEWING the Toa in the same style as the Protectors, because that's how long it took me to go over most of the finer points of them. The last twenty minutes, though, are me going down memory lane and talking about what constraction's always meant to people, for good and ill. It's mainly a much needed defense of CCBS, though, to combat the ignorance being spread by people (mostly on youtube) who say things like "You're a bad moccist if you use hero factory parts" or "If you like these new sets, you have no credibility and nothing you say should be taken seriously." There is an ALARMING number of people like this. Simply disliking CCBS is fine, but the reasons for it I'm hearing are... pretty crazy. So, I felt compelled to take this chance to push back at the ignorance being spread, to make some kind of final statement on the true value of these toys, and if any of you have been dealing with these sorts of people, this video should be some sort of catharsis for you, and maybe something to share with those people. Don't worry, there's no swear words or harsh language. I was originally going to save those final thoughts for the end of the LoSS review, but I realized they just wouldn't have a tenth of the impact then, if I did that. I had to include it in the Toa review, the new face of Bionicle that so many people disregard unfairly. Anyway, I hope this starts a good discussion. If you know anyone who you think should see this (be it the first twenty minutes or the last twenty minutes), please don't hesitate to share it with them. I made this to be THE final word on these things, CCBS an' all that. I know that sounds incredibly arrogant, like I'm making myself the man in charge, but I'm not. Just saying, if anyone gives you trouble for liking the new sets, shoot them down with this. Anything to combat the spread of ignorance. Enjoy! I rarely do toy reviews like this, so feedback is much appreciated.
  7. So, yeah. This is the review forum for my new epic, THE SANDS OF FATE. Comments, concerns, and cookies go here! (mmm, cookies)
  8. Hello! I was not sure where else to put this. I just made my first ever video review, I wanted to try out my gear and test all of the settings for future planned reviews (Look forward for a WMKK one soon!). As well as share the very nice Hero Pack with those of you who haven't been able to lay hands on it yet! Some feedback would be very much appriciated on how I can make my future reviews better! Keep in mind that I am not a native English speaker Bionicle Hero Pack Video Review
  9. So after hitting my head against a wall about making this a review show with animated portions, I opted to make it a podcast instead! Click the images to listen to them on soundcloud. Be sure to leave comments below and they might be featured on a future episode!
  10. Review topic. Main topic: http://www.bzpower.com/board/topic/17180-sought-a-rogue/
  11. Here is a place where one could theoretically tell me how I am doing with Operation Rainfall. This is a canon side-story of Voltex's Mafia Uprising universe. I don't have fancy multiple narrators or anything, though. This is just through Portal's eyes. =P So enjoy this little prequel romp through the world before Scenario Alpha takes place. Comment, rate, subscribe, follow, favorite and share or I'll nom you.
  12. So! My Bionicle 2015 sets arrived today and I've decided to review each of them. I was going to review Lewa first but there's still one important picture of him that I need to take, so Pohatu gets the honor of being the first 2015 set I review instead! Also, I realize this won't really match up to the official BZPower review, but... well, I enjoyed reviewing the NinjaCopter back in October, so here we go! SET REVIEW: 70785 Pohatu: Master of Stone PRESENTATION Sorry, I didn't actually take any pictures of the box or instruction manual on their own; I'll try to remember to do so for future reviews. That said, I think by now we've all seen the packaging, and it's... odd. Odd in a good way - it's visually appealing, and I like that the desert background is unique to Pohatu and the Protector of Stone. The hexagonal shape allows Pohatu himself to be front and center, while the legal information such as piece count, recommended age, and other miscellaneous information that I don't really care for take up space out of immediate view. I will note that the box is rather flimsy; despite being padded with little airbags, several of the boxes for my sets had been partially crushed in transit. I wish they were a little more durable. BUILDING Out of the sets that I have built so far, Pohatu was by far the most simplistic - coming in at an absolutely underwhelming 66 pieces (a lower piece count than half of the Protectors, although admittedly they are all composed of tiny pieces), Pohatu is probably the fastest and easiest of the Toa to build. That said, it was still loads of fun; the gearbox especially was entertaining to put together. There it is in all of its completed glory... from the view that doesn't really allow you to see how it is constructed. I do apologize for that. The gearbox is definitely the most complex part of this set, but that's not to say that the rest of the set isn't fun to build as well. Of note here is that the gearbox is only designed to swing Pohatu's right arm; his left arm remains stationary like the arms of most sets since 2006. Here we have Pohatu almost finished, lacking only his mask, weapons, and torso armor. The burnt orange and trans-lime green (or whatever it's called, I know somebody will correct me) work surprisingly well together, although I do wish that it was trans-yellow instead (even if that might not be as bright). The over-abundance of silver also works - and thanks to the asymmetry of his arms, I am now operating under the headcanon that Pohatu lost his left arm in some mysterious accident, and has replaced it with a robotic arm. Because robotic arms are cool. SET DESIGN Here is the obligatory "interesting pieces" picture: As you might notice, I forgot to include the gearbox, the headpiece, the eyes, and a few other pieces. Oh well - we shall cover those in another review, I suppose. What we do have is a silver brain attack torso (which gives the impression that Pohatu has some serious abs), a printed burnt orange chest piece, burnt orange armor, two versions of Pohatu's mask (gold and, you guessed it, burnt orange), the boomerang piece, the Rahkshi staff, the dark blue Skull Spider head/body/whatever thing, and the trans-lime-green-pieces-that-have-a-different-name limbs. Personally, I am a fan of the burnt orange that is being used; the old browns were always rather dark or boring in the old Bionicle (except for Avak, who looked like a delicious piece of chocolate), and it matches well with the shades of red, blue and green used by some of the other Toa. Pohatu's new mask does bear some resemblance to his masks of old; specifically his original Kakama and his 2008 mask... or if one wants the mask that it appears to be almost directly based upon, just look at Photok below. Yes. PLAYABILITY I'm going to be honest; I probably won't be doing much playing with any of my 2015 sets. Mostly just displaying them and admiring how beautiful they are because they are like perfection itself. But if I DID play with them, well, I do have a few thoughts. The first is that I am annoyed when trying to move Pohatu's head, because I have always gripped the front of the mask and then the back of the eyes; but I cannot do that anymore since the eyes pop the mask off. So I am slowly adjusting. I also don't really get the dual-purpose of Pohatu's weapons; I kind of wish they functioned like the Piraka's weapons in that regard, where it was a very simple switch. Although those weapons were hard to use when building creations, so at the end of the day I think we're alright. Plus, Lego made boomerangs look cool as weapons. Of course, the set does come with a Skull Spider (like all of the 2015 sets so far) - and this one has a stinger, since it is hardcore and lives in the desert. You can have it follow Pohatu around as a pet, or maybe it will jump up and eat his face! Really, you can decide. I rather like the Skull Spiders and wish Lego had more sets include something like them. And of course, Pohatu can discover his golden mask, which grants him... something. I don't really know. Pohatu goes on an adventure! Pohatu finds his golden mask! Pohatu has his face eaten by a Skull Spider! Oh dear. FINAL THOUGHTS Pros Burnt Orange!Skull Spider is coolROBOT ARMMakes boomerangs coolComes with three masks, three weapons, and three charactersdarnitCons 66 pieces makes me feel ripped off even though I know the Protectors have tiny baby piecesNot enough burnt orangeROBOT ARM is probably not really a ROBOT ARMI have to learn a new way to move heads and it's weird and why am I even complaining about this maybe it's because there's really not much to complain aboutSo what are my final thoughts? I say go for it. You know you want all six Toa. You know it. In fact, you want doubles of each one, because you want to build Wairuha and Akamai too. In all seriousness, Pohatu is probably my least favorite of the Toa - but when I'd say this whole lineup is pretty darn close to perfect, that's not really that bad. So buy him! Just buy him last. 18. Hi all! I'm a fairly old member here on BZPower, but not one that actively makes posts I was just curious as to what people think of my entry to LEGO's 'Battle for the Golden Mask' competition! The wait is long to here who made it through, and some feedback would be amazing A link to pictures and other goodies here: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/401572 Thank you in advance! Also, I'm more than happy to give my opinion on some of your mocs if that tickles your fancy
  19. If you are looking at this post, then you have most likely seen and read my Tale of the Southern Toa epic series. First of all, thanks for checking me out! And second, I created this section as a discussion page so the actual story doesn't get so cluttered with comments. Feel free to give feedback and constructive criticism about the story. 20. A.K.A. "By the Numbers 3" This epic was originally designed as a Short Story, but it became long enough that BZP would have chopped a bunch of it off; so here it is in Epics as a two-part story. Since it's already complete, I'll be posting Part 2 within the next two days (depending on how long the forums are down for tomorrow). The following two links are totally optional; they're both games run by me, to which this story is the sequel (and conclusion) to. Those who have played the games or know what occurred in them might catch a few extra references, but I intentionally wrote this story so that it could be entirely standalone... hence why any other connections you might find aren't as obvious as they would normally be. By the Number 1 - By the Numbers 2 Synopsis Two Matoran have been sent plunging through one's darkest memories on a quest to stop Makuta from achieving his ultimate goal. The journey carries with it no hope of victory, nor a chance at escape; all it promises is that they shall lose everything. Part 1 - Part 2 I hope you enjoy.
  21. So, this is the place where all the people of the world can review my latest story, Don't Forget Me. What are you waiting for? Get started. Chapter 1 released. Have a good evening.
  22. Presentation From the design of the box to the instruction manual, these are the first things you see before building the set. The box for The End is an obsidian block. I was at first confused by this, as I usually associate obsidian with going to the Nether and expected an end stone block instead. But then I remembered there's all those obsidian towers in The End and it's just a more recognizable block overall, so I guess it does make sense. Either way it still looks cool and is another neat design to have lined up on a shelf with the other boxes. Inside the box are two instruction booklets, a handy brick separator, and five bags of parts. Building Half the fun is had building the set. How fun is it to build and how easy or challenging is it? The End sees a somewhat disappointing return to the norm for the Minecraft Micro World sets that The Nether temporarily broke. It is a standard build of creating an underground portion on a plate, a little bit of aboveground scenery on a plate, stacking them, and repeating four times. It's really rather disappointing, made worse by the fact that The End's really just a boring place. It should truthfully all be in just one color to truly replicate end stone, which is all that there is in that dimension, but fortunately the designers thought to break that up by introducing other shades amongst the bricks. I am more than okay with this because it makes it slightly less boring - but only slightly. On only the second portion, I had tired already of such an incredibly repetitive build. All the other micro world sets varied in many ways what was going on both above and below ground, but The End does not even remotely do so (not that the source allowed that, granted). But you what to know what's the worst part of all during the entire build? How scattered the pieces are amongst the bags! Some are available in relatively extremely low quantities, like those to the Ender Dragon and Endermen. Finding them, which is supposed to be done first according to the instructions, was a genuine pain. One would think that because so many pieces in the exact same tan color that finding anything else would be easy, but it was quite the opposite. Set Design Now that the set is complete, we can critique how it looks from every angle. New or interesting pieces can also be examined here Remember before how I've complained about wanting more of the mobs out of these micro world sets? Well, The End at least fixed that. We get four Endermen, who I find to be a generally cool design and as expected feature unique printed pieces to replicate their eyes. The only downside I really see to them is that they can't turn their heads and have their arms raised, but that's the kind of sacrifices expected at such a small scale. The Ender Dragon is really cool. The only thing really keeping it from being perfect in my eyes is the lack of a mouth. A wide, gaping jaw is just something any dragon needs. The main island is, as I've said, quite boring. I'm glad that some color variance was introduced into the end stone to add something to look at, but… Well, The End was always a bit of a disappointment when it comes to cool factor, so it wouldn't be fair to blame the designers here of course. They did recreate the island pretty faithfully in the 3D world. The top of The End at least has some interesting things to look at. A big End Portal takes up a quarter of the area, complete with a dragon egg. Which is a bit contradictory since this shouldn't appear if the dragon's still around... oh well. It still looks nice. Dotted all around are the obsidian towers, and they even have Ender Crystals on top! These are my favorite part. Literally. I have never seen these smooth round plates before, but I do love them. And the translucent purple color they're cast in is gorgeous. Playability The other half of the fun is in playing with the set. How well does the set function and is it enjoyable to play with? What may come as a bit of a surprise for the micro world line, The End actually has a degree of playability! The Ender Dragon has articulated wings and an articulated neck, so you can mix up how it looks. Plus it's a dragon. Everyone wants to whoosh a dragon around in the air. The Endermen can also kind of do things. You can slide a brick in-between their arms to emulate them stealing a block, but of course they do slide out easily. Because of how they're designed, you cannot plug a plate in sideways either, so all you can do is wedge them. As for the rest of The End... Eh. If you have a Steve from the original CuusooIdeas set, I suppose you could have him exploring or mining. But nobody seriously does that in Minecraft proper because, yes, it is boring. Final Thoughts Once it's all said and done, how does the set stack up? Should I get it? Pros What's to like? Plentiful mobsEnder Dragon is a fun buildMore beautiful trans purpleCons What's not to like? Boring to look atBuild is far too repetitiveJust boring(Yay giant mini mob army!) So it seems my predication way back when The Village and The Nether first came out of The End being next came true. Unfortunately, I also completely called how utterly boring a set devoted to just it would be. That's the real shame here. No, there wasn't much they could have done with just The End itself. It's an uninspired place even within the Minecraft game, and this set does recapture it to a fault. As a standalone set, I advise passing, and even for those who got the others, it might be a questionable buy. Perhaps it is best that the future of Minecraft LEGO lies in the minifig scale, which already looks like it will be having some pretty unique and varied sets. I still love these micro world sets for the little diorama pieces that they are (and would still buy additional biomes for sure). The End certainly delivers there. It's just a disappointing sendoff, if that is what it really is.
  23. (Note: This is a repost of a lost review, so some content is out-of-date.) Presentation From the design of the box to the instruction manual, these are the first things you see before building the set. So The Nether box is a lava block. It's awfully fitting and looks pretty cool lined up with the others. Just like The Village, there is no reference to Cuusoo anywhere. Inside the box we've got the standard two instruction booklets and brick separator, as well as five bags of parts. (I accidentally deleted the picture of the bag sandwich soooo whoops.) Building Half the fun is had building the set. How fun is it to build and how easy or challenging is it? So after just two sets, there's already a standard build to be expected in the Minecraft line, what with that same build being repeated four times in each set. Build a cave segment on a larger plate, build a bit of aboveground scenery on another plate, and cap the cave with it. Then we get to The Nether. This set breaks the mold and I love it. Yes, everything's still built on a large plate, but you need a base, and of course most everything's still tiles and plates. The similarities stop there. The segments of The Nether are not tiered, so already it's a fun build at the start. After the third segment, though, you realize that yet again these four are pretty much identical to each other, and that's somewhat disappointing. Being different from the other two sets still helps a lot. Also, how they pulled off the Ghasts was genius. They're built upside down to get the slanted pieces to act as tentacles and it is pretty cool. Set Design Now that the set is complete, we can critique how it looks from every angle. New or interesting pieces can also be examined here Unique to The Nether we have the three printed blocks for the mobs. Because they're all larger bricks, that does mean we don't get extras to make more of our own mobs, like we could with the ones made with tiles. That's a big shame, but really just for the Pigman. Having two Ghasts is already an improvement compared to any other mob, but I'd probably have dropped one for a Blaze to get some more diversity. And that portal… It's beautiful. I love this transparent purple so much. As for The Nether itself… More properly, this set should have been called Nether Fortress. That's not a bad thing, that's just what it is: a fortress. It does fairly accurately recreate how fortresses in the Nether usually are encased in the side of Netherrack mountains and I like it. Playability The other half of the fun is in playing with the set. How well does the set function and is it enjoyable to play with? Playing with this set is… annoying. While I really like the design choices of the Ghasts, it does make it nearly impossible to get them to stand as they just want to fall forward. If you can find a wall to lean them into or nestle into a hole, they work out, but otherwise good luck. There's also the fact that Ghasts are supposed to fly, but I think we can look past that here. Otherwise it’s just the standard fare of plopping down your mobs wherever you want, even bathing them lovingly in lava. Probably the best part of this whole set is the Nether portal and how you can just do whatever you want with it. Like throw the portal up in The Village and have the Pigman invade, with only Steve and his trusty pig to defend the realm. Because why not? Final Thoughts Once it's all said and done, how does the set stack up? Should I get it? Pros What's to like? Unique buildAwesome mobsBeautiful trans purpleCons What's not to like? Only one Nether portalHard to make the Ghasts standSo… We're growing our mob army quite nicely. If you're a Minecraft fan, you need this set. I'd say you need all of them, but really The Nether is a more essential piece than its sister set The Village. It's a unique build and a more iconic location in Minecraft. I'd also say it's more worth the price to me, which is still a little high, I'll admit. But it's at least still around, unlike the immediate sellout of the initial Cuusoo set, so hopefully it'll stay affordable for a little while. The Nether is also a very interesting inclusion in the line. I can only hope that next up we'll have The End, complete with Enderman and Ender Dragon (and ideally be half The End, since really that's kind of boring, and half fortress – now that would be a unique set). Really, any continuation of this new line will be welcomed here.
  24. (Note: This is a repost of a lost review, so some content is out-of-date.) Presentation From the design of the box to the instruction manual, these are the first things you see before building the set. The design of the box should come as no surprise to those who have seen the original Minecraft set. But! This time, it's a wooden plank! It shows off the set and the micromobs and the back advertises LEGO Cu-… wait. It advertises the other two Minecraft sets? Cuusoo is mentioned nowhere in this set. So very much unlike its predecessor, Cuusoo #3 Minecraft, The Village and its sister set The Nether are one hundred percent their own line. The original is even retroactively added to it according to the instructions here, now labeled “The Forest.” Anyways, once you bring yourself to pop the box open, you'll be presented with two instruction booklets, a brick separator, and six bags of parts. Building Half the fun is had building the set. How fun is it to build and how easy or challenging is it? So you want to build The Village, huh? Better give yourself plenty of time, because although it's simple and straightforward, being entirely composed of tiles and plates means you've got a lot of pieces to sift through. Seriously, you'll be pulling from all six bags in some steps; placement for some parts seems pretty random and will take some digging. That said, the build also isn't anything exciting, especially if you've already built The Forest. It felt altogether far too similar, but I guess that should have been expected. Even if you haven't, after you've build one corner, you know what to expect with the other three. I did find piecing together the mineshaft elements and villager homes to be pretty fun though, and the couple of removable walls were unexpected. Set Design Now that the set is complete, we can critique how it looks from every angle. New or interesting pieces can also be examined here There are actually some new molds here! The 1x2 plate with 1 stud finally gets the mold change it always needed - you can actually plug in any stud underneath it now, not just the hollow ones. Besides that, there's plenty of awesome colors included, plenty of extra pieces, and of course the printed tiles for the mobs. Even on the original Steve, I thought they did a really good job with the mob face coming together on the sides of several tiles, and I still think so here. Although I must admit the zombie being two shades of green looks rather weird. The Village fits in really well with the established Minecraft microworld. There's not much more to it than that. It feels like it belongs and very much looks like the expansion it's meant to be. Playability The other half of the fun is in playing with the set. How well does the set function and is it enjoyable to play with? The Village looks pretty good, but much like the house built in The Forest, I'm very disappointed that the micromobs can't go inside. You can still make some nice dioramas, especially if you make use of the pretty cool mineshaft in the underground layer. We can also finally make use of the axle holes in The Forest without buying duplicate sets to expand our world: Final Thoughts Once it’s all said and done, how does the set stack up? Should I get it? Pros What’s to like? Tons of piecesTons of colorsMore Minecraft is always a good thing.Cons What’s not to like? The build is too similar to The Forest. We've got enough extra tiles to make extra mob heads, so why not just intentionally double them so we have bodies too?Seriously, I want two pigs. How can you not love that face?A big draw here is also building your own world. Now, I like my Minecraft vanilla - no mods here - so I'll be doing the same with my sets, since really I got them as display pieces. But for those of you with creative minds, you've got a plethora of options. It's also pretty cool to grow our overall number of mobs. I would love to complete the micromob collection and have some more unique biomes. When I learned of The Village and The Nether's existence, I was ecstatic. However, The Village really does fall short. Except for the mobs, it's just not adding much new. I could only recommend it for those seriously into the theme. Still, I hope The Village and The Nether sell well so we can get even more released in the brand new Minecraft line.
  25. Read King Vultraz The Premise After seizing control of a the "Great Kanohi Mask" and becoming a king, we return to Vultraz now. He runs a Diner in Metru-Nui, he's lost his precious Mask, and everything is spiralling downward. This epic will contain "mini-arcs"; every three or so chapters will be tied together by some sort of central concept, but the epic will still contain several over-arching plotlines. The Story (Topic) The Diner C1 - C2 - C3 The Cast TBA So... you can review here! This does not, at the moment, have a steady release schedule planned; I'll post chapters as I write them.
