  1. Woohoo! All the Public schools in my area were closed today because we are getting about 8-10 inches of snow.
  2. So many tests... But they're all easy. Meso
  3. Might as well get onto this: yes, I've moved on to someone else. Well this started about a month ago (Mid-January): So "new" people aren't confused: Amanda was this girl I liked (which I don't anymore) for about a year, in which a lot of events regarding the both of us have happened, to know more, just read some of my past entries. To make things clear, I'm just going to start using names straight-up. Since the beginning of the year (7th grade, not 2009), I've been mid-friends/aquantinces with this one girl (Kaylee) in my Math class, who has sit near me a couple times (but it's kinda faded over time). I have been mildly attracted to her friend (Lauren), who's in my Math class too, since the biginning of the year too... mildly... But I didn't think much of it since I had Amanda on my mind at the time. Then in, I think Mid december, I was assigned to sit next to Lauren, with Kaylee sitting behind us (and one of Amanda's guy friends was sitting next to her. I thought sitting near him would be wierd, but actually, he's a cool dude ). Over the next couple of weeks (nearly every class) Me, Kaylee, and Amanda's friend, engaged in conversation. With Lauren coming in occasionally, but as I've learned by sitting next to her, she's a shy person, doesn't really talk much. It's not like she's "scared" of everyone. She's just not as outgoing as Kaylee or Amanda. She didn't act like she liked me much, but as time moved on, that kind of changed. Just to put it out there (for other parts of this entry), near the time of finals, I made a joke where when our teacher said something, I finished it silently by saying "You're basically screwed" (Example: Teacher; "So if you don't bring a pencil to finals-" Me: "You're basically screwed."). After one of those times: Lauren; "*tiny giggle* you're basically screwed ." After the semester ended (about a month ago), we got a new seating chart, and I was about as far away from Lauren as physically possible, in the classroom. Now this where I started officially liking her (meh... to a degree): One day, they were writing notes to eachother across the room from me during class. After a while, they balled up the peice of paper they were writing on (so they could throw it) and tossed it over to where I was sitting... so here comes the diagram >< Prepare for "Analyst Amph" Girl 1 Girl 2----Girl 3 Guy 1 -----------X------------- Girl 4 Me-----Guy 2 Girl 5 OK, that's the seating arangment. The "X" is where it landed. A bit after that, Kaylee said to Girl 2, "Give it to... *Something I couldn't hear quite clearly*... (Some name that ended in "L" [i. e. Me, Michael])". Now, all of the people sitting in that area don't have an "L" ending name (except for the girl she was talking to, but why would she ask her to give it to herself?), but before the girl could pick it up, the teacher saw. Now, this guy is a real joker, and passing notes isn't new to him. He came over and picked it up. Everyone was basically yelling, "Read it in front of the class!". Also, Kaylee and Lauren were blushing like mad. Kaylee was giggling, but Lauren was blushing with a "shocked" look. As I said, this guy was a joker, he read it in front of the class... to himself. [sarcasm] HAHAHAHAHAHAHA VERY FUNNY!!!!! [/sarcasm] .... Sooooo... yeah. I know it doesn't mean that they/she likes me or anything, but... ya gotta think, wonder. But then the next class, I had to correct Lauren's paper. She gave to me, then scurried away nervously (Like, in a shy, You know what I'm talking about way). Afterwards, I just put a star next to the grade to be nice... [hint][hint] Now, I don't know if I just have a lot of time to think, but... ya I do. I was thinking about those other girls I liked/liked me, and their plausable opinions about me, how they look, etc. It's just that... eeerrrruuhhh... I just suddenly liked Lauren a lot better now. I all of a sudden started to get a lot of "funny" looks from across the rooms after these events occuredI just think it's cool that we've actually met, and I actually know her. Also her friends don't think I'm an Id*ot. And she knows me. JUST to be clear, I don't like Lauren JUST because that note may have been her saying she likes me. I've just been thinking about a lot of stuff lately, and I find her a good decision. Let's skip onto about a week before Valentine's Day. I had been discussing this with "Greivous's Malevalence", for some advive. Time being a factor, I chose to ask her out (not bluntly but... saying I liked her and some other stuff, then asking her out). I spent the whole week procrastinating, until Friday the 13th (Where my school was having these wierd Valentine's Day specials, like buying roses, and sending your "special someone" a valentine-gram), I was out of options. It was lunch, and I knew if I waited until after school, I would nerve-out. I went the cowards way out, I asked one of my good friends (who's in my Math class, and sat near Lauren at the time) to ask Lauren (when got the chance) to have her meet me by our lockers (since her's mine are nearly right next to each other) to ask her something. I was disapointed to find out that she didn't meet me. But I have a very plausable answer to that: She rides the bus and is hardly at her locker after school anyway, so this isn't an anomaly. On the following Tuesday, I asked my friend what happened. He said that when he asked her, she was kind of annoyed. NOT by the fact that I wanted to meet her, but by the fact that she was tired at the time he asked her. So nothing has happened since then (except that I still get those looks in Math), so I've chosen (unless you guys can give me some good ideas) to take it slow until a good opurtunity/idea irises. I'll just find oppurtunities to be polite, and help her. But when something does happen: Here are some possible consiquences: BAD She ends up thinking I'm gross (for some unknown reason) and I end up with the awkwardness... because our lockers are next to each other. ><She's already dating someone and doesn't like me.She's already dating someone, and would like to go out with me if she wasn't already with someone else (bad/good)Just plain doesn't like meGOOD She already likes meShe likes me plainlyShe says yes after thinking about it.That's all I'm gonna post for now, as I'm very tired. BUT, why am I so sure that Arch Angel is going to immediatly disprove 90% of my theories. ~/\mph
  4. I'm a bit excited for Monday. In media class, me and a friend get to leave class to go on location to film interviews with actors/crew members of our school's current plays. I know that sounds a bit dull, but it's MUCH more entertaining than staying in class and do basically nothing. Also, credits on the morning announcements are always good.
  5. Really, what's so wrong about putting the Lantanides and Actinides in with the rest of the elements on the periodic table? It's not like they make the table terribly wide, and it makes it easier to see the grouping IMO. I mean, the g-block makes the table big, but the La's and Ac's are just fine. And if the g-block is ever discovered, are they going to have two groups of elements with asterisks pointing to rows below the table?

    Dance, Dance

February 13, 2008 Part II Weighed down with words too Overdramatic Tonight it's "it can't get much worse" Vs. "no one should ever feel like..." I didn't ask her out. But at the end of the day, things turned out well - but the day isn't over yet. LAST NIGHT She started texting me, I think after DB4Z called her. Just general stuff...I asked her if she was going to the dance (indirectly), but she had to go to bed, so I didn't find out. GYM I was too scared to ask her out - and b'sides, I don't think you should ever ask a girl out in a GYM. BAND I tried. I honestly tried. I was hoping she'd start talking to me, but she didn't, and I decided to ask her at the end of class. But she was literally surrounded by people, and I knew I wouldn't be able to summon up the courage to ask her in front of so many classmates. So I waited in the hopes that the crowd would clear...but it didn't. MATH I spent math in what you could call something short of mild depression, I guess. I literally cursed myself out...not something I'm particularly proud of, and it didn't really help my mood. I'm pretty sure I failed my math test because I was focused on her, not distance/midpoint formulas, angles... DANCE So now, this is where we get into a whole lotta talk. I was pretty moody at the beginning of the dance...I kept saying I hated myself and stomping, and one of my friends told me to stop, so I started stomping, jumping up and down - hard. My legs are still aching from that. I tried to get high on soda. XD I really did. It didn't work so well, and now I'm really tired. She came over to our little gang (consisting of Bubo, Mail, Colt, Stewie, Chris, Mohawk, and I) and started, likkz, saying hi and stuff. Fistpunch thing, too. She came over to me after pretending to know who Colt was and asked to see my cell phone, and she was all over it for some reason. What, exactly, is special about a Razr? =DD She was all over mai kitty, too, which just so happened to be set as my background. I'm pretty sure she was trying to find something on my phone, though. xP A little later, Stewie asked to see my phone, saying that he needed to check something. Me, being me, gave him the phone - and then realized just what he might be checking. By the time I got it back, he'd already found her number, and there was really nothing I could do about it. So he gave it to Bubo, I think, and he txt'd her, told her I liked her (I think, never got the real story). Which led to me attempting to avoid her, because at this point I KNEW she knew I liked her. If there's one thing that made this whole deal a hundred times more impossible, it's the male possy thing. It doesn't help my self-esteem to see her hugging boys. I couldn't know if she was with any of them. Ugh... ENDGAME I just love that word, sorry. Near the end of the dance, I decided to text her. I couldn't take it. I asked her if she was still there (it was nearing 4:30, the end of the dance) and I didn't know if she'd left already. Her reply was: "yea wanna dance?" ANTICLIMACTIC I told her I was a terrible dancer. And I am. But I also said that I would try - but then the Chicken Dance came on. You can probably imagine what I said... Rather anticlimactic, irromantic, completely and utterly ironic. I didn't know where she was, in any case, and by the time I understood that "Near the From" meant "Near the Front", the Chicken Dance had ended. I spent most of the next song trying to find her, and the remainder of it trying to figure out how to actually get to her. I mean, she was surrounded by people. XD ONE MORE SONG There was one more song after that - Cyclone. I finally managed to get to her about midway through it, but almost immediately lost her again. But I did get to dance, even if it was for about ten seconds. XD But I did it. I did it, and that's the point. I finally did it. IT'S NOT OVER Not quite the end of this, is it? It's safe to assume that most of my blogs next week will be about her, so... Right now, I'm trying to get her on AIM. I need to talk to her about a few things... THINGS UNSAID DB4Z: I have to find out if he actually did tell her. Bubo: I have to find out if he said anything. Pity: If she does know, then I may ask her out, but if it's a pity thing...there's no way. She'd be wasting her time. I mean, she's a great girl, and I know she wouldn't want to make anyone upset, but I definitely don't want her to go out with me under the pretense that it would be heartbreaking for me if she didn't when she could go out with a boy she actually liked. Girls are great with emotions - but two can play at that game.

    Deadline

February 13, 2008 Part I I'm going to do it. Dance is today. I'm gonna ask her out. Oh, boy... Wish me luck. Pray for me. Idk. I'm scared as heck here...listening to a bunch of my songs on iTunes now. Learn to Fly by Carbon Leaf now-- And now I have to go. Just...umm...I'd love your support, if you could give it to me. xD
  8. So, I'm in fourth period. The only thing I had to do today was take a quick 30-question test, after which I had free time. Have free time, the period doesn't end until 11:48. Today we had a variant of FCAT Writes that's essentially the same thing with a different name. As usual, it was easy. In cas it's illegal to disclose the prompt on the internet, I'm not going to. The good thing about this is that our schedule is altered to fit in the Writes. Here it is: Period 1: 7:33 - 8:13 Homeroom: 8:19 - 9:25 Period 2: 9:31 - 10:10 Period 3: 1:16 - 10:56 Period 4: 11:03 - 11:48 Period 5: 11:54 - 12:39 Period 6: 12:45 - 1:30 Period 7: 1:36 - 2:15 Period 8: 2:21 - 3:00 The writing thing was during homeroom. Until next time, folks...
  9. So, I've decided to stop giving detailed reports of my day, mostly because nobody reads them. If you object, speak now. I forgot one very big thing when I made the List of Important Things That Have Happened Between Then and Now. Actually, it's so big, I'm surprised I didn't list it. As usual, here's some background: I'm in FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), a club that essentially is about preparing you for a future in business. Every year, FBLA holds several categories of competition, from FBLA trivia to impromptu speaking to desktop publishing. Well, I love desktop publishing (which, for those who don't know, is the digital creation of printed objects such as fliers or edited images), so I entered the schoolwide competition. I was randomly partnered with another competitor (it was a team competition), who I later discovered to be the older sister of one of my younger sister's friends. Talk about coincidence, she attended my younger sister's birthday on January 28th (another thing I forgot to list). Anyway, during the Thursday meeting, the winners of each division of the competition were announced. Desktop Publishing at the high school level was announced near the end. The top seven teams are invited to state competition. Guess who got sixth place? So, in April, I get to miss four days of school as I enjoy myself in Orlando (yes, I live in Florida), attending various workshops, competing, and generally having a good time. Until next time...

    Sanguine

So, I get this word-a-day e-mail, but lately I've been so busy that I just put them into the Word-a-day folder unread. Today, I got a word that I just had on an English test (that I was gone for and couldn't take)!

    Snow!

Six inches, to be exact. My school is usually closed when we get this much snow, but I STILL had to go! (Dunno why, though) When I got there, I found out that all of my teachers were absent, we had only 8 (yes, 8) kids in our class, and to make things ever better, we started school two hours late! ... So basically we sat around and did no work for the rest of the day. It was fun though, I had brought some bakugaun to school, so my friend and I played that until the end of the day

    Ironies

So it comes to pass once that in Academic Team, there was a question about how many high fives can be given in a room with X people if no two people give a high five twice. I seem to remember having these in earlier math. Unfortunately, instincts guide me to use factorial of X, which is most definitely not right for this situation. Rather than multiplying the numbers below X, they are added for this. It's also like the number of cannonballs you have if a triangle (not a pyramid mind you, that gets harder) has X cannonballs at the base and narrows to one. Like so: ___o _'_oo __ooo _'oooo I studied this over the weekend, accidentally, while working with acceleration. If you want to know how far an object will fall (with an acceleration of X ft/s2) in Y seconds, you use that triagular thing of Y (and multiply by X). This is because in the first second, the object falls X feet. And the second second, it will fall 2X feet...and so on. With some work, I found that the equation for finding the triangular of a number is TN = (not my image, but I found the same equation). So today during practice, we had a problem about how many ways you can arrange X people in a line. And I used the triangular for once. This time, when I should have used the factorial. >.<

    Oddities

You know what I find curious? How the five Japanese vowels correspond almost perfectly with the five used in Latin. I think that the dipthongs used in the languages are the same, too: an 'ai' (English long I), 'oi' and 'au'/'ou'. I would say that maybe those are the only vowels available to the human, but English has it's unique variety of the 'a' in 'cat' (unless that's a dipthong).

    Quarter 2

I have good grades, with the exception of one class. I wasn't able to get one permille that would make the grade into an A+ in Spanish. And I'm the best student in there. It probably has to do with how I didn't relise this until after our final (which we took earlier than the other classes did), when it was too late. Everything after that went to third quarter grade. Anyone know what E1 might stand for in the gradebook? There are four grade boxes. Q1, Q2, E1, and S1. The Qs are obviously quarters and the S is semester. But I have no idea about E. Some of them have no grade in them, and others have just the final in there. Also, I discovered a universal law of humanity today: Learning hurts. Ex: "I learned about touching stoves," or "I learned what type of people not to date." It applies to all learning.
  15. DATE LOG: 01.12.09 at 1926 Hours Initiating standard conversation module... ...module initiated. -------------------- Today would be an abnormally normal day if not for one thing. Here, we're going to assume that the definition of a normal day is a day on which nothing of real importance or note occurred. So, today was very normal. We started another guided reading in AP Human Geography, a new section in Algebra II Honors, a new lab in Biology I Honors, a new chapter in Digital Design I, went to the Media Center for a presentation on the Teens Read books in Semantics and Logic, tutored a few people during lunch, started a video about Shakespeare in English I Honors, and reviewed in Spanish I. The abnormal thing (besides the general normality) occurred before school, about six feet behind me. Remember that firecracker that went off last week? Well, the guy that did it was caught. However, some other moron rather unintelligent person decided to do it again today. It went off right behind me. I was sitting on the rim of the Shark Pool. They must have had a really long fuse or something else that delayed its explosion, because nobody was standing by it when the bangs started. Of course I, being myself, returned to reading my book as soon as I ascertained that the explosion was not a direct threat to myself. I hope they expel the people that keep setting these things off. Anyway. Yesterday, I played two games of Heroscape against my brother. The first one came down to the last one of my figures versus the last one of his. He won the game because his figure had greater movement and range than mine, though mine was extremely powerful up close (his Gorillinator versus my Tor-Kul-Na, for anyone who plays). I won the second game because our mom cut us off early and I had more points left than he did. That's all for today, folks. 16. Me memory of previous sources and all the sources I could Google today after school say that the moon is receding from the Earth (moving away from), thusly making it's rotational period around the earth longer. And that's what makes sense. However, my science teacher and my nerd friend insist otherwise. Who here knows?

    Day Of Firsts

DATE LOG: 01.06.09 at 1739 Hours Initiating standard conversation module... ...module initiated. -------------------- Right. So, my first full-length blog entry. And it will be about school. For, indeed, today was my first day back to school after a relaxing, highly enjoyable winter break. Let me acquaint you with my schedule: My day is divided into eight fifty-minute periods, with six-minute passing periods between them. The very first bell rings at 7:26 a.m. and the last at 3:00 p.m. My first-period class is AP Human Geography, in which we study people around the world. Topics include culture, religion, population, and language. This is an easy class, as long as you do the work. Second period is Algebra II Honors, which is exactly what it sounds like. This is probably my hardest class. Topics include doing just about everything with polynomials and imaginary numbers. Third period is Biology Honors, which, again, is exactly what it sounds like. Again, this is a very easy class as long as you do the work. Topics include genetics, dissection, and biomes. Fourth period is Digital Design I, in which we learn to design. Digitally. Topics include Adobe InDesign CS2 and Adobe Photoshop CS2. Fifth period is actually a brand-new class for me: Semantics and Logic, a required course for all ninth graders. It's a single-semester class, so I had Applied Tech Systems last semester. I can't reallly say much about it yet, seeing as I've only been attending it one day. Sixth period is lunch, during which I eat (shocker). Seventh period is English I Honors, which is very easy for me. Topics in this class include Springboard, Springboard, and Springboard (details below). Eighth period is Spanish, in which we learn - wait for it - Spanish. This is probably my second-hardest class. So, first period. My teacher is (very) pregnant with twins, so today she issued an official notice: She will be leaving us on March 13th. The entire class knew that news of this manner was on the way, it's just official now. After my teacher leaves, the rest of the class's days will be spent reviewing. I'm really not sure if this is good or bad news, but my teacher assures us that we'll have all the knowledge we require to pass the College Board exam by the time she leaves. In second period, we jumped right into polynomial degrees, complete with a new format of doing every single piece of work. I love my teacher. My third-period teacher had the same idea, working us on identifying stages of mitosis in animal cells until the bell rang. Again, in fourth period, we jumped right in and started working in Photoshop. I must say, I've been looking forward to using Photoshop (the class has worked in InDesign until now). Fifth period. As I mentioned earlier, I've started a new class this semester for fifth period: Semantics and Logic. In fact, my particular class is so new that the teacher has just started working. For the first time. Today. In my class. This could be a good or a bad thing; I'll just have to wait and find out. Sixth period, I went to my usual math room for tutoring. You see, I tutor other students every day during lunch. Unsurprisingly, the only people there were two other tutors. In seventh period, we didn't do much. I know I said that I'd talk about Springboard, but I'll tell you about some other time. In Spanish, I discovered that we will be reviewing what we learned last semester until Thursday, when we'll begin new material. We reviewed by splitting into groups and passing around several sheets of paper with different topics on them. Each group had a different-colored marker and was to jot down Spanish words that came to mind when we thought about that topic. I did most of the work. I'd like to say here that I'm not really much of a group worker. Maybe it would help if I were working with people that actually contributed to the task at hand, but I'm typically stuck with the layabouts of the class. Anyway, that was my day. After school, I walked across the street and came home. Ate Raman noodles. Browsed BZPower. So on and so forth. Before I wrap up this blog entry, I'd like to introduce the Grammar Points system. If a reader ever spots a grammatical error in one of my entries, they will be awarded Grammar Points, and their name will be placed in a special content block along with the number of points they've earned. Spelling errors are worth one point each, and other errors will be worth two or three (depending on the individual error). I'll come up with awards eventually, but for now, good luck! -------------------- Standard conversation module deactivated. -Unit #CRKK- Vahki Commander Vahki Command Code: 3262 Forum Division Zone: 2 Staff of Suggestion

    Late Entry

DATE LOG: 01.07.09 at 1100 Hours Initiating standard conversation module... ...module initiated. -------------------- I suppose this still counts as a morning entry, since it's still before noon. I didn't get to post at my usual time because I was running a bit late. This often happens on Thursday mornings. You see, when my sister is at GA's with her friend, she doesn't get home until around 9:00 p.m., which is when we usually go to bed. So on Wednesday nights, I usually end up in bed around 10:00 p.m. The rest of my family shares my fate, so everyone was running a tad late this morning. Anyway, on with the days activities. First period, we did the first half of the outline I mentioned yesterday. The other half was assigned for homework. In second period, we reviewed last night's homework, then my teacher introduced synthetic division - a very easy way to do the long division we learned yesterday that applies to a particular type of problem. She assigned ten problms for homework, about half of which I did in class. In third period, we reviewed the stages of mitosis, then learned that mitosis in plant cells is identical to that in animal cells save one thing: A new cell wall is formed inside the dividing cell instead of splitting cleanly into two cells. My teacher also reminded the class that our homework is due tomorrow. Biology is the only class I really don't like doing homework for. I love my teacher, but she has us answer every questioin in complete sentances - even the multiple choice, which I think is ridiculous. The whole lesson didn't take very long; we had twenty minutes left of class when my teacher was done. I used the time to finish my Algebra II homework - it really was easy. Now, in Digital Design, I have the entire period free while other students finish chapter 1. I may not be able to make an afternoon or even an evening entry later today - I'll be very busy after school. First, a friend of mine is walking home with me after school (remember, I live a five-minute walk's distance from my school). This is actually a regular activity that usually happens on Wednesdays, but was postponed one day for undisclosed reasons. We collaborate for Algebra II, usually doing homework together, and then do whatever we want. Today, we'll be playing Heroscape. I plan to beat him with a new strategy I've developed, but I won't bore you witht he details. Anyway, after my friend goes home, my grandmother is going to pick me up and take my sister and I to one of her art shows (my grandmother is a painter by profession), where we'll meet up with my mom and brother. After that, there's a meeting at school for people interested in taking AP and Honors classes next year, so I'll be going to that. Once that's over, I MAY be able to make an entry on my mom's laptop, but no guarantees. I'm going to wrap up this entry now. I'll let you know at a later date (or later time, if I'm lucky) how the rest of the day went. Wait - hold that thought. I just found an interesting function that allows you to create an acronym. For example, COOL. Now, hover your mouse over 'COOL'. Pretty neat, huh? It also works for basic things like 'LOL'. I don't know if you can use this in regular posts. Would someone try it our for me? Here' the format: [acronym="Description Goes Here"]Acronym Goes Here[/acronym] Thanks. I'll post again later. -------------------- Standard conversation module deactivated. -Unit #CRKK- Vahki Commander Vahki Command Code: 3262 Forum Division Zone: 2 Staff of Suggestion

    Morning Booms

DATE LOG: 01.07.09 at 2014 Hours Initiating standard conversation module... ...module initiated. -------------------- Well...this is a bit late. I suppose it's more of an evening entry now than an afternoon one. Anyway, before I start on periods five though eight, I want to recount something that happened before school today. But first, some background information: In the center of my school is a structure called the 'Shark Pool' (or 'Fishbowl', for some students). Imagine a large bowl set into the ground, but with the rim still sticking up. Now imagine that the inside and outside of that bowl are made of steps four times the size of normal ones, and you'll have an idea of what the Shark Pool looks like. Now, what happened that could possibly concern the Pool? Well, some moron unpleasant fellow decided to throw a firecracker into the center of it. Big red flash, followed by lots of smoke. The administration has no idea who did it. I'm sure that there are a handful of students that do, but so far nobody has come forward to expose the culprit and claim the offered cash reward. What fool would not only bring a firecracker to school, but lights it and throws it into the middle of the school? Anyhoo. Fifth period, I took a vocabulary pre-test. I excel at language art of all kinds, particularly vocabulary, so I have no doubt that I aced it. Sixth period, a few people came to tutoring, but nobody asked me for help. Seventh period, we went over a project that will be due sometime next week or the week after. It's a poetry-based project. I'm not a big fan of poetry, but I chose Shel Silverstein to be my poet. If anyone knows a good place to find literary criticisms of his poems off the top of their head, please let me know. Eighth period we reviewed again. At the beginning of class, everyone was permitted to change their seats to "a place that you will be more productive." I think I'm one of perhaps three people that moved for that purpose - I moved to the front of the room, where I can see the board better. Not much happened after school. My mom and brother got home early - 4:00 p.m. My sister is with her friend at GA's (Girls in Action), as she is every Wednesday night. She'll probably be home in about half an hour. Well, that's all for now, folks. I'll post again in the morning. -------------------- Standard conversation module deactivated. -Unit #CRKK- Vahki Commander Vahki Command Code: 3262 Forum Division Zone: 2 Staff of Suggestion

    School Entry

DATE LOG: 01.07.09 at 1105 Hours Initiating standard conversation module... ...module initiated. -------------------- Every now and then in Digital Design (well, actually, almost every time something is assigned), I will finish ahead of the rest of the class and have a bit of free time on the computer. Fortunately for me, BZPower is not blocked by the school's Websense program. So, as I type, I am sitting in one of the most comfortable chairs in the school, listening to other students in equally padded chairs type, print, and mutter, "What the heck?" to themselves. So, in my spare time today, I decided to make an entry in the blog. To save time this afternoon, I'll cover what's happened today since the morning entry. In first period (AP Human Geography), my teacher introduced a new Guided Reading format we'll be using for future notes. The class tried it out today on the topic of development and definition of states. As it turns out, the first such areas were called 'city-states' and originated in Meopotamia. Then came provinces and empires, the most prominent of which was the Roman Empire. After the fall of the Roman Empire, various powerful kings divided up all of the land, and so evolved the modern state. In second period (Algebra II Honors, remember), we started a new topic: Long division with polynomials. As far as I can tell, the process is easy. It just takes a while. I can't really say much about third period (Biology, if you'll remember) because today we began discussing things that cannot be posted on BZP forums. Enough said. Now, in fourth period, I've just finished Chapter 1 of our Photoshop unit. It was excessively easy: opening and saving files, moving layers, zooming in, so on and so forth. Class ends in about ten minutes, so I'll wrap up this blog entry here. Before I go, though, I want to run an idea past my readers: What say you to me intentionally leaving a single grammatical error in each of my entries? It would make the Grammar Points system much more active. Think on it. I'll post again this afternoon. -------------------- Standard conversation module deactivated. -Unit #CRKK- Vahki Commander Vahki Command Code: 3262 Forum Division Zone: 2 Staff of Suggestion
  21. I was trying to remember the dwarf planets (Pluto, Ceres, Eris), and decided to go to Wikipedia to see if those were the right three (I sometimes get Sedna mixed up with Eris). And they've added two more to their family since I last looked. Which of course, knowing these astronomers, they have funny names. I have nothing against Rapanui mythology, except that I find it peculiar to pronounce "makemake" (Let's makemake some pies!). How strange that the natives of Easter Island would share the name of their creator deity with our verb 'to make'. I find it funny that the two new dwarf planets (Haumea and Makemake) were previously nicknamed "Santa" and "Easterbunny" due to their discovery close to holidays. I'll never keep up with the numbers of dwarf planets if they keep searching the Kuipper Belt, Scattered Disk and Asteroid Belt. >>
  22. A Wikipedia article I read the other day (I believe it was about the Proto-World Language) stated that some linguists suggest that a language could have spontaneously developed after the Proto-World Language was spoken. Spontaneously meaning with no roots from other roots. Personally, I don't see how it would be possible. You can make new words every now and then with no roots sure. A friend recently invented a word 'shėnzhwā' (which was originally spelt 'shnjwe' but I adapted it). That's easy enough. And you can make a language easily enough. It happens all the time it would seem. But to make a language with no roots from existing languages would be impossible. With those spontaneous words, it would take several lifetimes unless you are really inspired. You could make obscure roots, like I could base a new languages word for 'vest' off of the English word 'life' because I see the two as going together. And then I could go to the Latin so that I have the word "vita" for "vest". I could have fun with that and make my word "Difa". And I could make other really obscure roots, but they'd still be roots. Not recognizable by any linguist perhaps, but still roots. The one way I see that there could be a language without roots uses modern technologies. You could use dice or random number generators to represent random letters, and form words therefrom. Or you could speed up the same process with a random name generator. You could end up with rootless words that way. Another way is to randomly hit your keyboard and form a word from what keys get typed. Although, your language would end up pretty consonant heavy and consist mainly of sadfjkl-ine words. Several thousand years ago, however, I don't think it could be done. What thinkest thou?

    Negation Use

Word hates me. A double negative doesn't always simply mean a positive. Sometimes it has an emphatic meaning or something like that. Ex. 'I left a note in her locker, using a magnet of mine so she couldn’t possibly not see it.' It demonstrates the inability to not see it, not simply that she could see it.
  24. Then there's those nasty adjectives and adverbs that are always complementing other people. I would definitely call myself a cross between a conjunction and an ad-word. I'm certainly not a stand-alone word.

    'twas Easy

December 2, 2008 Well now, I don't think I did bad on my science test. xP I know I got at least one question wrong, though...she never even told us we needed to know how many vertebrae a human has. :/ Day started off with Language Arts, and we took these stupid mini-assessments (we do it mid-quarter every quarter). Hate 'em, they're such a waste of time. Then Social Studies. I can't even remember what we did in Social Studies. Or, for that matter, team time. Man, I need to get to sleep earlier.. Keyboarding was same old. Band was a little bit more exciting because I got to really hear what my trombone sounded like with the new mouthpiece. Happy to say it sounds a lot better, and that's a good thing, with the concert coming up on the 9th. And I already told you about science. xP The test was easier than I expected, and I'm really happy about that. I'm hoping for at least a B, which would be awesome, considering I didn't study. Home, bored, tired, shower, sleep. One word left to say: KTHXBAI.
