Flickr "Wyverns feared as desert tyrants, which take their name from the giant horns that crown the head. The horns are put to lethal use with charging thrusts, and while the Diablos possesses no breath attack, its roar is loud enough to split human eardrums. Like the Monoblos, the Diablos charges its prey or strikes from underground, moving more quickly once it is angered. Extremely territorial, they attack invaders with blind aggression. Highly sensitive to sound, perhaps because they frequently travel beneath the sand. Known to feed on cacti." -- Hunter's Guild monster notes Reference image. And so, another MOC of a creature from the Monster Hunter video game franchise! After series mascots Rathalos and Rathian, Diablos is the other creature which wins the perfect attendance award ... or it would have, had it not slept in during the auditions for Monster Hunter 4 and missed that boat. Ah well. At any rate, it's still a popular monster which can often be found terrorizing hunters in desert regions and whatnot. Those horns aren't just for show, you know... Also an entry in the January Flickr contest. ~B~

Yeah, Monster Hunter! That video game which everyone and their mother plays in Japan but you can count the Western players on one hand! (Or you used to be able to, anyway.) Where you hunt giant fantastic creatures, defeat them, then wear them as a hat! Sooo tasty! Or, in all, a game franchise near and dear to my heart. It would have to be, for me to have poured at least 1200 hours total on it by now. And I know at least some members here play it, so I thought opening up a discussion topic would be a good thing. There's tons to talk about, be it the latest release in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, or, that new thing Capcom's been teasing us with, the forthcoming Monster Hunter X. ~B~

So a friend and I have been bouncing around ideas for a Bionicle game based on Monster Hunter 4. Taking the first 3 years of Bionicle and playing them as a Toa, and fighting Rahi throughout the island of Mata Nui. For those who don't know, Monster Hunter (in a nutshell) is a game where you play as a Hunter, but you yourself do not level, you progress by upgrading weapons and armor. You travel the world taking quests and fighting monsters, each with their own battle strategy and design. Some ideas we had for this game: Start the game and pick a Toa for your characterIntro tutorial: wake up on beach, pick up weapons/armor from canister. Meet Matoran, get chased by a rahi and the scripted event teaches controlsEach Toa's tools represent a different fighting styles (Pohatu's spike shoes for melee, Kopaka sword and board technique, etc...) Each village has certain quests and mini-storylines to fend off creatures in that regionExpeditions is how to expand the map and eventually link Villages together (explore until you reach a new village, then can quick travel to it)Weapons and armors you craft from materials harvested from Rahi resemble that creature/its abilityWe know that something like this would never be created, but we are having a lot of fun fleshing it out and I think BZP would too. What would you add or like to incorporate in this amazing-not real Rahi Hunter game?

Flickr "Wyverns that rule the eternally frozen Tundra. Barioth use their huge tusks and spiked scales to move freely atop the slippery ice; this ability makes them very difficult to keep up with." --Hunter's Notes, Monster Hunter Tri I have been wanting to MOC a creature from my beloved Monster Hunter for a while, and when BBC #67 was announced, I knew that I wanted to enter this guy. I'm very pleased that I was able to make one of my favorite monsters from the franchise. For those of you who aren't familiar with Barioth, here's an image of the beast from Monster Hunter Tri. If you aren't familiar with the Monster Hunter franchise, that's a shame, but it's essentially one of Capcom's biggest selling game series, at least in Japan. As for Barioth, he's basically a huge, armored, ice-breathing saber-toothed cat with wings. Is that awesome or what? ~B~

So. Today, I finally did what I've been trying to do for the last, oh, two days or so? I beat Alatreon. Not by myself of course, that'd just be suicide. However, I beat Alatreon with the help of others.(Or... Maybe the other way around. xP) And this is interesting... Each time the quest was won; I got a Skypiercer. Each time. And not just broken ones(I have 5 of those as well); I got an actual, non-broken, Skypiercer. =O ... And the Azure DragonGem. So... I think I did pretty well. =P

Monster Hunter Tri Entry 6: In Other News, I Hate My Net
Blessed Blade posted a blog entry in blogs_blog_978
Ballom can probably guess what this is about. =P Sooo... I'm in the middle of fighting Alatreon. And winning(Well; two deaths down, but that's not too big a deal). Then, one of our gunners gets DCed. I don't think anything of it; we've still got three people including me. I run after Ala, going for the tail, since it wasn't cut yet. Ala stops for a moment, and I take the opportunity to slice at it. ... Then I get the notice: "A communication error has occurred." ... AAAAAAAAAAARGH!! >_< >=O and the like. I was none too impressed at that. However; thinking back, I should've seen the first warning sign: Ala stopped. xD Ala never stops. When monsters suddenly stop for no reason, it tends to be a sign of communication lag or errors. I was hoping it was lag. =P No status update yet. Haven't got much to report. =P
