Bionicle Online RPG/strategy?
Nik the Three posted a topic in Fan Created MediaI currently got idea of making browser-based online multiplayer Bionicle game. I got a rough idea about programming stuff, but other than that, my design is lacking. I am also able to make strategy game with less visuals, close to board games. It would require dedicated server (or Hamachi or Tunngle) and separate client. So, first of all, we have two possible categories of such games. Competetive - each game takes some time (may be week or two in case of browser based game), but every time it starts, everybody has same opportunity to win. You can imagine CS:GO, Starcraft II, Dota 2, League of Legends. BZP Mafia would also fit here. Those game are skill-based. I would prefer to make this type of game. MMO-style - over a time, you gain experience, items and so. This kind of game is usually harder to get into, especially with lower playerbase. New players are most likely to not ever beat veterans, even when they get into game. You can imagine World of Warcraft, Metin 2, Ikariam. Then there is genre. Strategy - I think this needs no explaining. Strategies are Age of Empires, Starcraft II, Dota and much more. Those games would be most fitting browser and gameplay focused game I plan to do. RPG - Roleplaying games. Dungeons & Dragons, World of Warcraft, Heroes of Might & Magic, roguelikes. Action - This would require bigger development team - graphics, sounds, design and programming would all be much harder than for first to genres. Both strategy and RPGs have many examples of working turn based and real time styles. Turn based - much more suitable for browser, ie. better option. Eg. Heroes of M&M, most roguelikes. Real time - might work with client, but would be of course harder to make and to play. Those are just basic things I have to decide for. The game itself is another thing. Feel free to share any ideas you ever had for Bionicle game, but couldn't ever realize them!
Bionicle Fighter: Broken Virtues
Katuko posted a topic in Fan Created MediaBIONICLE Fighter Alpha version 16.1 Advanced (not yet) multiplayer platform fighting game Download links at the bottom of this post. Click the thumbnails to see the full screenshots. For work-in-progress previews, check my Dropbox gallery and my BZP blog. Latest game version update: v16.1 - November 29th, 2014. Download found below. Introduction From its start in late 2000 and to its almost-end in 2010, BIONICLE was one of my favorite series. I had, and still have, a great affection for the bio-mechanical beings that inhabit its universe. For several years, I've wanted to create a large-scale game based on BIONICLE. I've tried and failed twice in the past due to lack of sufficient programming skill. But now I'm back and ready, and I've gotten quite far already.I therefore proudly present to you: my work-in-progress.Note that I am making this game for you, fellow fans. Your feedback is very valuable to me. So please, if you enjoy this game: take a moment to post a reply. It will be greatly appreciated! Character creation First out: the Toa, chosen heroes of the universe! Each Toa wields an elemental power, which allows them to control, create and absorb that element. Toa also wear Kanohi masks or helmets imbued with an additional power. Losing the mask, however, weakens the Toa. In this game, you will be able to select both your element and mask power, as well as picking a weapon from a wide selection. Some weapons have special powers of their own. The other playable race is one of the fiercest enemy types the Toa have encountered: the Rahkshi! They might be primarily empty shells of armor controlled by a leech-like creature, but Rahkshi have special powers of their own, most of them based on destruction or deception. Rahkshi can not absorb power from the environment like Toa can, nor can they use mask powers, but they make up for it with their powerful attacks and ability to fly at will. If a Rahkshi chooses to carry a staff imbued with their own power, they can increase their strength through that as well. Toa and Rahkshi with different powers can pick up a dropped Rahkshi Staff in order to use its power. In addition to choosing between the two species and their many powers, you can also adjust the values of five different stats: Strength, vitality, dexterity, element and mind. - Strength modifies the power of physical attacks and melee strikes. - Vitality increases health and other related attributes. - Dexterity determines run speed and jump height. - Element modifies the power of special attacks. - Mind relates to the amount of energy available as well as its recharge rate. Mask powers also benefit from the mind stat. Current features The engine is still being worked on. Most of the basics are in: Movement, terrain, the ability to customize. Weapons, items and powers are being worked on. All the powers have been indexed and given default colors, but not all have actual effects in gameplay. - Play as either Toa or Rahkshi. - Customize your character's powers, equipment, stats and color. - Toa elements: Fire, air, earth, stone, ice, light, shadow, plasma, magnetism, plant life, sonics, lightning, iron, psionics. - Rahkshi powers: Fear, disintegration, poison, fragmentation, hunger, chain lightning, teleportation, quick healing, plasma, magnetism, chameleon, laser vision, gravity. - Mask powers: Shielding, levitation, speed, strength, invisibility, corrosion, regeneration, hunger, teleportation, truth, light and shadow, portals. - Weapon powers: Burn, freeze, stun, disarm, chainsaw, laser shot, light beam, armor piercing, Rahkshi powers, stat modifiers. - Five main maps and two test maps. Proper maps: Karda Nui, with its giant stone pillars, straw hut village, Codrex, swarms of Nui-Rama and a boss; Mangaia, mostly a dark, flat cave at this point; Kini-Nui, the Great Temple; a joined version of the two previous maps; Onu-Koro, with its dim tunnels, underground village and flooded mine section; and Ta-Koro: Village of Fire, with a large central platform and lethal lava on both sides. A stone fortress will eventually be placed in this map. - Various status effects (freeze, burn, poison, healing, gravity changes, temporary stat reductions, blind) - Color customization, power and weapon selection, stat modification. - Saving and loading of character files. - Settings menu with customizable controls and music/sound toggle. - Screenshot function (hit F9 to capture a screenshot and save it to the game folder) - Battle AI enemies while you wait for the game's true purpose: Online multiplayer. Screenshots NOTE: The hosting site I use is down, so I will migrate to a new host if it doesn't come back up again. The latest working screenshots are at the top of this post. v16.x: v14.x: v13.x: v12.x: v10.0: Older versions: Attacking an Exo-Toa with Lightning Dissolving an enemy with Poison Disintegrated! Extracting is as simple as right-clicking the ZIP folder and selecting "Unzip", "Extract", or whatever your computer calls it. After you get the uncompressed files, you can safely delete the ZIP itself. To start the game, simply run the EXE file (the one with the proper game icon). Note that this game is made to run on Windows systems only (Vista and later); I can not guarantee that it will work with WINE or similar. ALSO IMPORTANT: Do not change the folder structure, or some files will not load! The game itself must be in the same folder as any DLLs and INIs, and the music must be in a sub-folder. Moving stuff around will break the program. If you want a shortcut to the game, right-click the main EXE file and choose "select shortcut". Do not move the game file itself. Changes (16.1): - Toa Mata didn't spawn properly on Kini Nui. They do now. - Items will now spawn in the joint Kini Nui/Mangaia map. - Fixed the gravity field preventing flying characters from exiting Mangaia, and also made it 100% certain to prevent fall damage. - Added a column of light which lifts you out of Mangaia after the boss fight. Use it by pressing Up+Use, like you would on a teleporter. - Fixed a few issues with the Makuta boss fight... and apparently introduced some new ones. Sorry about the mess. - Added music for Makuta boss fight. - New attempt at solving the Windows 8 crashes - the crashes are related to sound, so go to settings and turn on Win8 bug fix to eliminate certain troublesome sound effects for the time being. - Nui-Jaga now spawn every 30-40 seconds in Onu-Koro. - New weapon: Lava Launcher. Fires a stream of flames. 16.0: - New map: Kini-Nui and Mangaia combined. - New boss fight: Makuta Teridax. Found in the Mangaia portion of the joint map. - Boss fight with Rahkshi moved from Kini-Nui to joint map. Defeating them opens the way into Mangaia. - Boss fight with Toa Mata moved from Ta-Koro to Kini-Nui. - New Rahi enemy: Nui-Jaga. A few of them appear in Onu-Koro. - Made bots use the new Plant Life secondary attack. - You still have to go to settings and turn on the Windows 8 "bugfix" if you have problems. Multiple sound effects being placed at the same time is the primary crash factor. Another game trailer (old, from game version 9.0) Test files / "mini-games" Sometimes I program something for testing purposes, but don't include it in the main game for various technical reasons. You can still download these test runs and try them out if you want. FAQ When is the next update? I use my spare time for this, so it's very hard to schedule new versions. I try to pop one out every few months or so. I hope to fix the game engine and start popping out more rapid updates sooner or later. This weapon/ability doesn't work, or it causes errors. It has most likely not been fully programmed yet. If it has been mentioned in the change log, though, then please report any errors to me either here in this topic, or via PM or e-mail. Will you add X to the game? There are a lot of items, powers and characters that I want to include, but because everything needs to be programmed somehow I can't afford to include them all. Feel free to make suggestions; I try to reply to them all. How do I spawn the bosses? First, make sure that AI enemies are enabled on the map selection screen, as no bosses will appear otherwise. In Karda Nui, the boss is spawned by eliminating all the Exo-Toa on the map. In the Mangaia and Kini-Nui maps, the boss battles are triggered by finding a special sparkling point somewhere on the map, activating it, and then returning to the center. An item will be present that calls the boss(es) when touched. The arrival of a boss is signified by a change in music and sometimes map backgrounds. Defeating them will leave behind a special power-up item. It crashes. I'm sorry, but I'm using a pretty old version of GM for this game, and it has issues with newer systems. I will eventually port it to a new engine. In the meantime, other factors of slowdown may be high usage of CPU or RAM, as my ancient code isn't exactly the most efficient. Known errors: - Players will often spawn with a health bar that is not entirely full. - If a players or AI dies right before their attack strikes a target, the log might show an "Unknown variable" error. - Wearing armor other than Nuva Armor is not recommended at the moment. - On newer systems (Windows 8), the game might crash when a lot of sound effects play at once. This happens most frequently with the fire- and lightning ball attacks. A settings option is included to turn of the problematic sounds for the time being. alpha123 posted a topic in Fan Created MediaOkay, you can access the old topic here. As you can imagine, a lot has changed since that version, but you should read the old topic for instructions if you can't figure something out. Download Alpha 3.5 The changes since the last version are too numerous to list, plus I forgot most of them, so here's the major ones: [*]Two player mode works! Yay![*]A much improved GUI.[*]Music! The music when you're fighting is the Power Miners theme, and the title theme was composed by me. If there are any musically inclined people out there, feel free to contribute something better.[*]Owned a few more bugs. The thing should be rock solid now.[*]And I think there were some new powers. The last time I worked on this was June 25, so I don't really remember. Now that I can actually release it again I'll work on it more.Have fun guys. Please report any bugs or feature suggestions in this topic. Remember, your feedback, positive or negative, is what makes this game fun. Coming next version: [*]Powerups. If you have any ideas for any, let me know. I've got a few.[*]Water power. How to help: [*]I need sprites. Matoran and elemental powers. This is the biggest thing you can do for me right now.[*]Music. A nicer title theme would be good.[*]Bug reports. I think I got rid of most of the bugs with this last release, but it's basically impossible for software to be bug free.[*]Feature suggestions! This game gets a little boring after a bit, especially if you aren't using the multiplayer features.[*]Map concept art would be nice. If anyone knows how to use Sphere, making a high-quality map (think BIONICLE Fighter) would be amazing. To do: [*]Improved sprites. I suck at spriting, so volunteers are appreciated.[*]Elementally powered boxes. Walking over an ice box would slow you down, fire would deal a tiny bit of damage, etc.[*]More maps.[*]Improved network multiplayer that doesn't require editing code files to set up and allows more than 2 players[*]Internet multiplayer. This is far in the future, but it's coming.[*]Edit this post to be more detailed and include most of the information from the old topic.
Well, this is kind of a stupid question because it is a popular one in the Blender community, but do any of you have any idea how to make an MMO, or, better yet an MMORPG? I've tried BZoo, but I don't really... get it. (I may try again though, but still.)
Bionicle: The Legend of Makuta
Kortar posted a topic in Fan Created MediaBionicle: The Legend of Makuta Free multiplayer shareware Doom Bionicle modification Story: Long before the arrival of the Toa Mata on Mata Nui Makuta Teridax has decided to invade the island of Stelt. He has sent out his Rahkshi to destroy the forces of the Steltian Lords and to bring the island on its knees. You are a Lehrak sent to accomplish this task with nothing else on mind than eliminating every enemy you cross. Do you have what it takes to achieve the potential your Kraata has set for you, or will you become just another casualty that nobody will care about? Decide the fate of the island Stelt in 9 action packed levels, with 6 different weapons facing 6 different enemies in this brand new FPS. Zandronum (required for multiplayer): http://zandronum.com/download Instructions: Install Zandronum and sellect your Legend of Makuta wad as the main shareware Doom wad. Guide: Weapons: Staff of Poison Basic melee weapon of every Lerahk. Without Berserk it isn't much to look at but once you find the black medikit it turns it into on of the most powerfull weapons in the game. Without Berserk it can be used against lone enemies but once you get a Berserk you shouldn't fear taking it into even a dense battle. Stats: Damage (normal): 2-20 Damage (Berserk): 20-200 Shots pre minute: 123,5 Ammo: Infinite Drill of Onua Advanced melee weapon. The main power of this weapon is its ability to stun a target. Its rapid shots will stun most enemies with ease while damage quickly accumulates. Once it starts drilling it pulls the wielder towards his enemy, meaning that if the enemy is sufficiently resilient against stunning taking it into battle might be a risky approach. Stats: Damage: 2-20 Shots per minute: 525 Ammo: Infinite Firestaff Basic ranged weapon. Every Rahkshi should make it his focus to replace this weapon as soon as possible. It is very weak and winning a larger battle with it is considered to be quite an achievement. Stats: Damage: 5-15 Shots per minute: 150 Ammo: 200 (400 with backpack) = together with Cordak Blaster Laser Crossbow This is the most common ranged weapon seen among Rahkshi. It is reliable and powerfull, especially at close ranges. Ammo for this weapon is widely available on Stelt and therefore one should also use this weapon as a means to conserve ammo for more powerfull weapons. Stats: Damage per shot: 35-105 Damage per pellet: 5-15 Ammo: 50 (100 with backpack) Cordak Blaster The cordak blaster is a very powerfull weapon. It's rapid fire stuns enemies relatively easily with damage quickly accumulating. There is no situation in which a cordak blaster would fail to provide solid performance. Its only problem is ammunition. Rapid shots tak a lot of ammo and so a Rahkshi should save the precious ammo for when he gets into a truly dense battle. Stats: Damage: 5-15 Shots per minute: 525 Ammo: 200 (400 with backpack) = together with Firestaff Squid Launcher Originally intended for underwater combat, the Squid Launcher quickly found its way into land combat. It is a dangeroud weapon for both enemies and its wielder. If used carefully though it will quickly dominate the battlefield. Its most imposing ability is to hurt an aenemy even if the shot missed because of the large explosion a squid hitting something will cause, however stay too close and you might suffer a part of the hit that was intended for your enemy. Stats: Direct damage: 20-160 Blast damage: 0-128 Direct hit damage (direct damage+blast damage): 148-288 Shots per minute: 105 Ammo: 50 (100 with backpack) Enemies: Keerakh These aren't very powerfull enemies, however what they lack in strength they make up with patroling in large numbers. Because of the weakness of their projectiles they aren't an immediate threat but a Rahkshi should keep in mind that their attacks can't be dodged. Stats: Health: 20 Stun chance: 78,13% Damage: 3-15 (1-7 on the two lowest difficulties) Vorzakh These enemies might not survive much, however their attacks are powerfull and impossible to dodge. If fighting a large battle a Rahkshi should make it his priority to kill all Vorzakh as soon as possible. The closer you are to a Vorzakh the more pellets of his attack will hit you. Stats: Health: 30 Stun chance: 66,41% Total damage: 9-45 Damage per pellet: 3-15 Kohrak Profficient at all types of combat but master of none. Kohrak are dangerous if in big groups but don't pose much of a threat if alone because their ranged attack can be easily dodged if sufficient space is available. A Rahkshi should also keep in mind that this enemy can withstand considerably more damage than a Vahki. Stats: Health: 60 Stun chance: 78,13% Melee damage: 3-24 Ranged damage: 3-24 Nuhvok Never ever should a Rahkshi be cornered by a group of Nuhvok. While they don't have a ranged attack they are fast and have a powerfull melee attack. They also can withstand immense ammounts of punishment, so one should always have enough ammunition or a drill of Onua. However even that might not be enough if completely surrounded by these ferocious enemies. Stats: Health: 150 Stun chance: 70,31% Damage: 4-40 Partially invisible Nuhvok No image available This nuhvok is identical to a normal Nuhvok, however he is partially invisible and therefore much harder to spot. Stats: Everything identical to a normal Nuhvok Steltian Lord This is it, if you've made it all the way to the residence of the lords of Stelt, you will get a chance to fullfill the destiny Teridax has set for you and defeat the Lords of Stelt. If you defeat these behemoths Stelt can be considered conquered, however that won't be an easy task seeing how powerfull the Lords are. They can withstand nearly everything, are horribly difficult to stun and they deal insane ammounts of damage too. The only chance is to stay away from them and dodge everything they'll fire on you. Stats: Health: 1000 Stun chance: 19,53% Melee damage: 10-80 Ranged damage: 8-64 Items Keys You will need these items to open various doors on your mission. Health Bonus Gives you 1 health up to a total of 200 health Stimpack Gives you 10 health up to a total of 100 health Medikit Gives you 25 health up to a total of 100 health Berserker Pack Gives you the Berserker ability to your Staff of Poison and also gives 100 health up to a total of 100 health Armor Bonus Gives you 1 armor of your actual armor type (basic if you have 0 armor) up to a total of 200 armor Security Armor Gives you 100 armor of the basic type up to a total of 100 armor (basic armor = a third of suffered damage absorbed by it) Combat Armor Gives you 200 armor of the advanced type up to a total of 200 armor (advanced armor = half of suffered damage absorbed by it) Backpack Makes you able to carry twice the ammount of each ammunition type Light Amplifying Visor Lightens up all dark areas to normal light conditions for a period of time Radiation suit Protects you from the harming effects of radioactive waste pools for a period of time Automap Updates your map with data of the entire level Soulsphere Gives you 100 health up to a total of 200 health Partial Invisibility Makes you partially invisible for a period of time Invulnerability Makes you invulnerable for a period of time
