  1. Xurkitree Built for the Ultra Beasts Collab, the only technic parts used for Xurkitree are basically axles and some connectors, nothing more. If you want to see all the other beasts you can find all the builders on my Flickr post. To connect the cones on the head, I used the old arms of the Skeleton Minifigure. 07/10/23
  2. Kabutops This was built for a Pokemon contest hosted by my Italian LUG in collaboration with Nintendo to promote Pokemon Legends: Arceus. The rules to follow for this contest were simple: build something inspired by the Pokemon franchise. So I decided to build Kabutops (and Kabuto) using almost only Construction pieces. For the blades I used Vamprah's wings, the only system pieces in this moc were used to create the small rock on which Kabuto stands. I ended up coming second in this contest. 11/02/22
  3. So the first DLC expansion for Pokemon Sword and Shield is coming out tomorrow night. As someone who had beaten the main story and after game of Pokemon Sword, I look forward to seeing everything this DLC pack will add into it. I'm especially looking forward to the new and returning Pokemon. I'm not sure who all is coming back, but I do believe some of my favorites are in there. Are you looking forward to this DLC expansion for Pokemon Sword and Shield?
  4. Pokémon Rise of the Rockets This linked introduction may be a bit confusing to new people due to how long the RPG has been running. Nevertheless, I will attempt to summarize what Rise of the Rockets is about here. Essentially, twenty years prior to current events, a group of Rocket Admins usurped Giovanni, killing him and gaining control over the organization. These Shadow Admins, as they call themselves, ushered in a new era for the world, revolutionizing Team Rocket's structure and managing to take control over the four original regions--Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh, as well as the Orange Islands. Acting as the new government for the four regions, Team Rocket subdued or dismantled numerous other organizations, eliminating rebellion and criminal groups alike. Except for one: Team Liberty, a resistance group headed by Goldhawk, Blackskull, formerly Bluefalcon, and currently Silvermind. Acting from the Sevii Islands, Team Liberty has been at the forefront of the fight against Team Rocket's rule for the last twelve years, gaining power and recruiting others to their cause--something that Team Rocket has been hard at work to accomplish, as well. With both groups harboring huge amounts of Legendary Pokémon and famous trainers, their war continues to rage, though numerous other enemy groups--detailed in the section below--have thrown the conflict into an unstable struggle of wits and power. tl:dr it's a war RPG set in the Pokémon universe where Team Rocket is the main government and they're fighting a bunch of rebel groups and there may or may not be other stuff at play. Factions Team Liberty Established a little over a decade ago to fight against Team Rocket's rule, Team Liberty's primary goal is to achieve freedom for the four Kanto regions. Nowadays, their focus has shifted to include the fight against outside forces that threaten the very fabric of human existence--the Ancient Darkrai and Ford's Hojohsin League, in particular. Current Leaders: Markus Aleivy (Goldhawk,) Kane Umbra (Blackskull,) Selene Ashera (Silvermind.) Controlled Regions: Sevii Islands. Base of Operations: The Alamo: Team Liberty's main base, located on Four Island. Funded and constructed by Liberty Leader Blackskull, the Alamo is a massive facility, containing every conceivable asset required to maintain and create an army, from training and sleeping quarters to labs and Pokémon Centers. Boats and helicopters heading off from the base are a common sight, transporting agents to and from other locations. Until recently, the Alamo's location was hidden from hostile groups; however, actions by John Ford have revealed the base's position to Team Rocket and others. Nevertheless, it remains a highly-defensible position. Fallback Bases: Bases located on the other Sevii Islands. In operation at all times, though at a smaller scale than the Alamo, they are prepped for the possibility of a total invasion of Four Island. Other Information: Allied with Team Rocket as of the time skip. UPDATE: As of August 5th, 2017 in-game, Goldhawk is no longer a leader of Team Liberty, owing to injuries sustained during the evacuation of One Island. Team Rocket The governing body of Kanto and its sister regions, Team Rocket has risen above its past as a lowly criminal organization under the leadership of the four Shadow Admins. While many still view the group as scum--a justified opinion, considering their brutal method of gaining power--the Rocket regime genuinely cares for the well-being of its nation, improving many aspects of life and, in general, creating a safer, stabler environment than many people are willing to admit. They are determined to fight forces of chaos, such as Team Liberty and the Hojohsin League. Current Leaders: Sleight, Joker. Controlled Regions: Kanto, Johto, Orange Islands. Base of Operations: Chapel: Team Rocket's main base in Kanto, headed by Sleight, Chapel is located somewhere in the Indigo Plateau. Dwarfing even the Alamo in defensive capabilities, Chapel is not hidden from the world--its defenses are so great that it is able to stand tall where it is built, calling for opposition from any who think they can breach its walls. The local geography assists in these defensive abilities. Abyss: Team Rocket's main base in Johto, located underneath the Lake of Rage and headed by Joker. Abyss is the greatest hub of psychic influence and technology in the world, with many of its assets incorporating the use of psychic abilities into their inner workings. Paradise: Team Rocket's main base in Hoenn, located underground on Southern Island, was originally supervised by Ace, and then Buzz following her demotion and execution. While remaining a powerful and essential part of Team Rocket's power, Paradise suffered two attacks in the recent past, both at the hands of Team Liberty, rendering it the weakest of the remaining main bases. Following the Hojohsin League's rise to power in Hoenn, as well as Buzz's death at the hands of Soil Colossus, Inc., Paradise was shut down, and its remaining assets moved to Kanto and Johto. Purgatory: Team Rocket's main base in Oreburgh City, Sinnoh up until it was self-destructed by its overseer, Bounty. Purgatory was a powerful facility that had withstood many attacks in its time. The arrival of the Ancient Darkrai, however, necessitated its destruction as a precautionary measure to prevent the Ancients from gaining information that could be exploited in their war on humanity. Requiem: Team Rocket's main base in the Orange Islands, located on Mandarin Island, Requiem is controlled by Admin Viper. A massive underground complex, little is known about it at this point, though cloning experiments are known to take place there, under Viper's careful supervision. Other Information: Thus far, Team Rocket has endured both the largest loss of territory and power, and yet sustained the least amount of damage to its integrity as an organization. While it has experienced the losses of Ace, Bounty, Buzz, Hoenn, and Sinnoh, the group has yet to lose any of its primary firepower in the ongoing conflicts. TR Separatists The Sinnoh-branch of Team Rocket, the Separatists broke off from the main government when tensions between Sleight and Bounty reached a political impasse, tensions that rose due to the latter's belief that the war with Team Liberty would continue to go nowhere. Having formed his own faction, Bounty has allied himself with Team Liberty, assisting them in their war against Sleight's forces and helping them to combat other threats as they arise. Current Leaders: Bounty. Controlled Regions: Sinnoh. Base of Operations: Divide: With the defeat of the Ancients, Bounty has commissioned the creation of a new Separatist main base where Purgatory once stood--in Oreburgh City, Sinnoh. While the facility is not yet complete, six months have proven time enough to get the basic necessities down, and thus, the majority of Divide is considered ready for use. Hojohsin League A coalition between his own forces and three other, smaller organizations, the Hojohsin League was created by John Ford to be used as a vehicle for his own plans to roll out. Once encompassing the likes of Team Energon, Team Galactic, and the Searchers, the Hojohsin League's plans and methods range from the relatively simple--such as quietly taking over the vacuum of power in Hoenn--to the extreme, such as their bombing of Castelia City in Unova. Following the various dismantling and destruction of its three puppet groups, the Hojohsin League has revealed itself as its own single entity, utilizing its own forces along with those of Déoza to see its ends through. Current Leaders: John Ford. Controlled Regions: Hoenn; active in all other regions. Base of Operations: Hoenn Presidential Office: The main governmental building in Hoenn, formerly located in Lilycove City. President James Pierce, one of Ford's agents, assumed operation of the Hoenn government from here during the silent takeover of the region several months ago; however, the place was vacated following the Darkrai invasion. Even so, the place is well-equipped in terms of defenses, especially after the numerous additions that Ford and Pierce have made. Following the Ancients' defeat, the facility has been relocated to the more easily-defended city of Mossdeep. Current situation unknown as of Pierce's removal as president. Titan: Team Energon's former main base. It was headed by Michael Travis; however, he was eventually tricked and killed by Quincy Adams during their attack on Team Magma. Team Energon was soon liquidated and its remaining assets absorbed into the greater forces of the Hojohsin League. Nova: Team Galactic's former headquarters, Nova was controlled by Saturn. It was located near Eterna City in Sinnoh, though events involving the Darkrai temporarily made it inaccessible to all but the strongest of trainers. Following the Ancients' defeat, Team Galactic resumed operation within the facility; however, they and the base were soon single-handedly destroyed by a mysterious trainer named Envy, leaving Admin Jupiter as the group's only survivor. Ford's Hideout: Hidden away in some unknown part of the world lies Ford's main base of operations. A dark place, no one but his closest agents have ever gone there, and as such nothing is known about it. Other Information: While the Hojohsin League initially formed under a single, large-scale plan, Ford has placed all action regarding that operation on hold for the moment, due to recent developments--such as the loss of the Searchers and Madison Hayes, one of his top-ranked agents. This is not to say that they are completely inactive--quite the contrary; instead they have simply shifted focus to larger problems, such as the Darkrai, much like Teams Liberty and Rocket. UPDATE: As of Missing Zero's appearance, James Pierce and Quincy Adams are deceased, Ford and Madison Hayes are imprisoned by Team Liberty, and Tyler McKinley has been revealed as a traitor to Missing Zero. Team Magma A reformed extremist group that once sought to use the Legendary Pokémon Groudon to achieve world domination, Team Magma has performed a complete reversal of their previous philosophies. Having reconsidered his priorities, Maxie has opted to assist in the take down of Team Rocket, a goal he hopes to achieve with help from Team Liberty. Team Magma was destroyed following the time skip by Quincy Adams, under Hojohsin orders. Current Leaders: Maxie. Base of Operations: Havoc: Team Magma's main base, located within Mt. Ember on One Island. Specially designed to withstand the intense heat from the magma within the volcano, Havoc is an incredibly well-fortified facility, bearing powerful natural defenses and artificial constructs designed to protect itself from them--something that attackers, in general, do not boast. Access to Havoc is mediated by Magma teleporter Pokémon, which are constantly on stand-by. Havoc was eventually destroyed by Quincy Adams. Other Information: Currently allied with the Team Rocket Separatists and Team Liberty. DESTROYED. Team Plasma In another world, Team Plasma's rise to power could be seen as a more peaceful parallel to that of Team Rocket. While Sleight and the other Shadow Admins forced their way into positions of power, Team Plasma sought rule over Unova through legitimate political campaigns, using their reformed philosophies on the treatment of Pokémon as a means to gather support from the public. Since then, they have worked tirelessly to improve Unova's state of affairs, enacting both beloved and questionable laws in the process. Current Leaders: Gorm, Bronius, Rood, Zinzolin, Giallo, Ryoku. Controlled Regions: Unova. Base of Operations: Plasma Castle: Located in Black City, Unova, Plasma Castle is just as its name suggests: a large castle from which the Unovan government operates. Possessing highly futuristic technology, it is a primary hub of scientific development in the world, and is where some of the highest-ranked threats to Unova's security are held captive. From their council chamber at the top of the castle, the Six Sages govern Unova with a democratic debate-and-vote system. Other Information: While they are not actively antagonistic toward Team Liberty or Team Rocket, Team Plasma does not have high opinions of either organization, viewing the former as terrorists and the latter as tyrants. Nevertheless, the Sages consider the need to keep the news of war subdued in their region to be more important than getting involved in foreign conflict, and as such are entirely complacent with leaving the two enemy organizations to their own devices. UPDATE: Following the announcement of a peace treaty between Team Liberty and Team Rocket, and a six month reprieve and repair period, relations with Team Plasma have softened somewhat. While travel to the region is still monitored, it is no longer restricted, and much of the damage inflicted on the region has begun to heal. The Ancient Darkrai In ancient times, there lived ten powerful Darkrai, who were granted powers over time and space so as to serve as keepers of the world in the event that Palkia and Dialga became too injured to continue their own service. The Darkrai betrayed Arceus's trust, and were sealed away--until now. Having been imprisoned for thousands of years, the Darkrai have returned to seek vengeance upon the world, casting darkness as they slowly consume the world in their conquest. Led by Sombra, the Darkrai will stop at nothing until their plans are seen through. Through the combined efforts of Teams Liberty, Magma, and the Rocket Separatists, the Ancient Darkrai have been defeated, with all but Three, Five, Six, Seven, and Nine being killed. Current Leaders: Sombra/Ten. Controlled Regions: Sinnoh, Hoenn. Base of Operations: Sinjoh Ruins: Their place of gathering, the Sinjoh Ruins are located in Johto. While it is not exactly a true headquarters--for the Darkrai do not actually possess one--it is known to be the location where Sombra remains imprisoned, and thus serves as an important landmark for the remaining Nightmare Pokémon. Other Information: While there are officially ten Darkrai, their second strongest member, Ilios (Nine), no longer serves Sombra, seeing his plans as corrupt and based in folly--nothing good can come of them. As such, he is currently allied with John Ford, assisting him in his own affairs while the pair find a way to combat Sombra's growing abilities. Additionally, each of the Ten are nicknamed in descending order for their power level. UPDATE 3: Events in Opelucid have revealed that Six--Gaigan--survived the final battle against the Ancients, having appeared to slip away sometime before her brethren were absorbed by Sombra. Missing Zero During the Ancient Darkrais' conquest of Hoenn and Sinnoh, six trainers across various towns and cities were struck by stray shadow attacks. Instead of falling into a permanent sleep or dying, they were instead corrupted by the darkness, only to be found and collected by Nine (along with another similarly afflicted individual who had appeared in Ecruteak City) and placed into a temporary stasis until he could find a way to cure them. Following the Ancients' defeat, the trainers awoke, attacking Nine and finding their way back into the world. After the defeat of all seven, a blob-like creature called Missing Zero emerged into the world, slowly expanding and devouring everything in its path. This creature is currently spreading across the various regions, absorbing matter and recreating whatever it eats into strange, Pokémon-like foot soldiers called Instances. Current Leaders: Tyler McKinley Sins: Decaia Holts/Sloth: A male trainer corrupted in Lavaridge Town, who almost immediately proceeded to destroy the place and its surrounding location before falling into his own deep sleep. He "eats sleep," in his own words, and instigated the Sins' attack on Nine shortly after their awakening. Appeared to Sleight and Eileen Alaric in Missing Zero’s Egg, where he was defeated and boiled away to shadow. His death instigated Missing Zero’s arrival.Vidinia LeJauso/Envy: A female trainer corrupted in Oreburgh City. Envy first emerged in Galactic Base Nova, at the call of Mars' wistful desire for Saturn's position of power within the organization. manipulating her into killing her leader before destroying the base when Mars ultimately rejected Envy's "gift." James Pierce caught word of what had occurred and sent Fifth Child Van Harrison to investigate, who eventually engaged and defeated Envy in battle. As she was swept into darkness by the wind, Envy hinted at a connection between herself and Van, though did not elaborate before disappearing, her death marking the second passing within the Sins.Raimundo Rojo/Wrath: A male trainer who originally emerged in Ecruteak City from what appeared to be a side-dimension, nonetheless showing the same symptoms of shadow corruption as the other Sins. Wrath was responsible for the catastrophic damage to Ecruteak, earning himself a spot on Shadow Admin Joker's watch list, ultimately resulting in an organized counter-response against him when he later appeared in Goldenrod City in response to Ryan Hikari's deep-seated anger. Wrath and his team were subdued by Joker and her power-enhanced Golurk, Leviathan, and then finally defeated by Ryan, leaving naught but an ominous warning as he was consumed by fiery darkness, the first of the Sins to fall. His Instance Form, called Samurloch, appeared during the first official confrontation with Missing Zero on One Island.Melanie Garven/Lust: A female trainer corrupted in Fortree City, alongside her sister. Lust appeared in Team Liberty's R&D Department following a test gone awry, drawn by Executive Meghan Vert's lust for knowledge at the expense of those working under her. After a fierce double-battle between herself, Greed, Vert, and James Arthur, Lust was defeated by Vert. As dark lightning took the fourth Sin away, Lust could only smile, congratulating Vert on playing her part.Melissa Garven/Greed: A female trainer corrupted in Fortree City, alongside her sister. Greed appeared in Team Liberty's R&D Department following a test gone awry, drawn by Executive James Arthur's all-consuming desire for victory against another test operative. Engaging James and Meghan Vert in battle, along with Lust, Greed was eventually defeated by James. Though quickly consumed by gears of shadow, she warned James to be prepared to accept the consequences of his victory, before becoming the third Sin to die.Gelar Stolz/Pride: A male trainer who was corrupted in Mossdeep City, Pride appeared during the conflict in Celadon City, spiriting away and challenging Hannah Wright, Dack Majors, and Aspen Seaton after having been drawn to all three by their varying expressions of pride and hubris. Pride was eventually overcome by all three of his targets after a primarily-mental conflict, causing him to begin to freeze and break apart into shadowy flakes of snow and ice, making him the sixth Sin to disappear.Albero DeLargo/Gluttony: A male trainer who was partially corrupted in Mossdeep City. Gluttony appeared in Fortree City to Ryan Sanders, feeding off of Ryan's desire for attention. After engaging Ryan in battle, over the course of which his corruption became complete, Gluttony was beaten. As shadowy leaves consumed him, marking him as the fifth Sin to vanish, Gluttony warned Ryan to watch his step, and to prepare for the future.Tyler McKinley/TreacheryOther Information: The Sins appeared drawn to individuals who strongly exhibit their specific attribute. In addition, Missing Zero is not a playable faction. (EX: Gligar to Gliscor, 2 of 7 battles at night and 2 of 7 battles while holding a Razor Fang, or 4 of 12 battles at night without the item.) For those wondering what counts towards this: -Wild battles count for 2. -Battles against trainers count for 2. -Battles involving more than one opponent count for 3. -Battles where, at the conclusion, a Pokémon is caught count for 1 for each of the Pokémon -- the caught one and the one used to weaken it. -Training battles count for one. -Battles against "boss" characters (I.E. an admin of a group or a Legendary Pokémon) count for 3. -Invasion battles (I.E. battles instigated by one team to try to take out another team's base) count for 3 to 4 points, depending on the circumstances. Note that your Pokémon only gets experience if it participates in a battle. Mega Evolutions Mega Evolution in Rise of the Rockets works a bit differently than in the games. To lay out the most important detail first, Mega Rings and Stones are not a thing. Mega Evolution is instead powered by a natural, synergistic relationship between the Pokémon and its trainer. In order for a Pokémon to Mega Evolve, it must possess at least 25 EXP points, cumulative from all of the battles it has taken part in. Once a Pokémon has reached 25 EXP, they are capable of freely Mega Evolving once per battle, energizing them and providing something of a "second wind," although this will not fully heal any injuries that they have already sustained. Should they revert to their standard form during that battle, they will not be able to Mega Evolve again without resting. If a Mega Evolved Pokémon faints or is otherwise rendered unable to battle, it will revert back to its original form. Also different here is the fact that trainers are not limited to one Mega Evolution per battle. While individual Pokémon are, a trainer in Rise of the Rockets could, in theory, Mega Evolve six Pokémon throughout the course of a single battle. It is important to note, however, that this could potentially prove fatal for the trainer. Mega Evolution takes a lot of energy from the trainer in order to power the evolving Pokémon, and because of this, few trainers have been observed that possess the ability to last that long. The symptoms of "Evolution Sickness," as it has come to be known, are generally not permanent, and tend to disappear after a few days, though sometimes they last for a week or two. However, they do possess a patterned progression, which has been documented as follows. The number next to each symptom corresponds to how many Pokémon the trainer in question has Mega Evolved during the battle: No noticeable issues Minor headache, dizziness
  5. -Wild Area sounds awesome -Dreadnaw and Corviknight look rad -Wooloo looks cute, the grass types are good designs just not really my thing -The legendaries…like, they for sure look goofy, but that’s not necessarily bad. Neither is going to be my new favorite design. I’m leaning Sword right now. -I hate Dynamax. “Hey, we need an obligatory gimmick for this generation! Let’s just combine Mega Evolution and Z-Moves but make it as bland as possible!” I hate it. And they’re going to force me to use it in Gym Battles. Not jazzed about Raid Battles (and potentially Raid Battle-exclusive Pokemon) either. -I AM jazzed about Rotom Phone! And water bike! -The characters all make a good first impression. At first I thought it was weird that they’d reveal the Champion right away, but in a region where the Pokemon League is sports it only makes sense. Also he has brand logos on the back of his cape and that is hilarious to me. Kind of hate that his ace seems to be a Charizard as opposed to, you know…an actual new Pokemon… -I’m actually going to pre-order now, just need to find that gift card I misplaced.
  6. Listen, I love Typhlosion and the Sword and Shield reveal left me feeling underwhelmed, and though I’ll probably end up seeing Detective Pikachu eventually I’d rather not spend money on it because what the what, so…this was the best way to feel like I actually still like Pokemon. I wanted to see if I could beat Pokemon Gold Version (the 3DS Virtual Console version specifically) only using Typhlosion. I restarted the game, picked Cyndaquil, named him Blaze VI, and never used another Pokemon in battle. The only Pokemon I caught were ones I needed for HM usage, and even then there were a good amount of gift Pokemon who could use HMs so I didn’t need to do much of that. After 12 hours and 15 minutes of game time, Blaze VI is level 84 and has beaten Red. And it’s a rather satisfying achievement. Honestly, I think this was easier than using a full team. I didn’t have any particularly big problems, per se, but here are the hiccups/close calls: -The second rival fight, since his Feraligatr knew Water Gun and Blaze didn’t have an effective way of dealing with him at that point -The freaking Ice Path, my eternal nemesis -Bruno’s Machamp probably would have been a problem if its Rock Slide hadn’t missed -Karen’s Umbreon, which is tanky and knows Sand Attack AND Confuse Ray -Lance got off a Thunder Wave so Blaze had to tank a few Hyper Beams, but he did, like a champ -The first thing to put up an actual fight in Kanto was the dang Snorlax in front of Diglett’s Cave -Blue did get a lot of damage on Blaze, but aside from one Extreme Speed it was all Sandstorm damage -And obviously Red is no pushover By going everywhere I could before challenging each gym and fighting everyone I saw, I was able to get Blaze to a Typhlosion before even the fourth gym. At that point he can learn Thunder Punch and Fire Punch via TM, and those (plus Dig for coverage and Quick Attack for fodder) will carry you pretty dang far—you’ll outspeed and oneshot just about everything. Definitely get Return ASAP, plus the Pink Bow held item to boost it, and be sure to pick up Earthquake in Victory Road. Obviously replace Fire Punch with Flamethrower once you get it. I barely used any items at all, either. It was a fun side project for a week. I’d kind of like to do this sort of thing again, but I think Moon is too hard for me to do a solo run…
  7. I’ve been spending my time watching miscellaneous YouTube videos instead of actually doing work (Red Joker? What’s that?), and after seeing someone talk about how they’d construct a Pokémon gym I ended up thinking about it myself and sort of like what I came up with, plus this blog needs some kind of content, so what the heck. What I ended up going with was a Steel type gym. The leader would be studying legends tied to the Pokémon Aegislash, which is associated with kings and is said to be the result of a spirit inhabiting a sword. The gym would be divided by three gates, each with a different shield on the lock, three different bladed weapons on a rack against the wall, and two trainers to fight. Beat the trainers and they each tell you a different piece of a story about an ancient king, talking about feats they accomplished to clue you in on exactly what type of sword they were known for using. (Examining the different weapons on the rack tells you the type of weapon and what it’s specialized for.) So they could talk about a king who won a battle by breaking the enemy’s shield, and you know to pick up a heavier weapon, or hear about a lot of duels and pick up a sword meant for that. Then you place the sword in the shield, revealing them to be parts of an Aegislash variation if you’re correct, and the door opens to let you through! The leader’s team then consists of Bastiodon (since it’s got a shield for a face), Alolan Sandslash (it’s got a lot of sharp edges, plus it’s a Pokémon with a special variation like these Aegislash), and Aegislash (duh). Didn’t think of any details for a badge or TM, though I guess Swords Dance would be fitting? I just really like the idea of regional variants and thought it’d be neat to apply something similar to Aegislash, since it’s one of my favorite Pokémon. This setup also provides incentive to fight the trainers but allows you to bypass doing so if you already know what to do or figure it out more quickly, though I guess there should be a penalty for making a failed attempt? Maybe that forces you to fight one of the trainers? I was also thinking maybe this could be part of a whole league where each gym focuses on the lore/variations of a specific Pokémon, but maybe that’s a bit much…
  8. Hm. Well I finished Ultra Sun’s story and post-game episode. My feelings are mixed. There are a lot of things added to the game that I like, but there are two big things that irritate me. One is that it felt a good deal harder than SuMo, which I already didn’t think was particularly easy, but I know, git gud and all that, whatever. The second is that I…guess I had my hopes for the story too high. Well, either way, here’s my team: -Fistleo the Incineroar -Tempo the Dusk Form Lycanroc -Flipjack the Alolan Raichu -Kaitafish the Wishiwashi -Eggman the Alolan Exeggutor -Dusk Buster the Dusk Mane Necrozma I know this is mostly complaining but there really are some strong points to these games, I just don’t want to make this even longer and I’m sure you can find plenty of people talking about those. I do have Ultra Moon, but I’m not sure when I’m going to tackle that; I’m liking the team I’m planning but I am dreading that Necrozma fight…
  9. I've gotten a few hours into Ultra Sun. There have been some ups and downs, but progress is being made, and I'm eager to see what else awaits. I was able to get the special Rockruff and evolve it into Dusk Lycanroc (by messing with the 3DS clock, that works in case you want to know), started with Litten to round out my Living Dex, and I managed to catch a Pichu and eventually evolve it into a Pikachu. (You can get Soothe Bell fairly early on, that was a nice surprise.) Also, Route 1 has Munchlax now. And sometimes they have Leftovers. I caught a Munchlax with Leftovers only five hours into the game. Rad. Hm, what else? The Photo Club is fun, I'll probably be spending some time there, and the Roto Loto has proved quite useful already. Most of the changes I'm noticing right now are fairly minor, but I imagine that'll snowball as I go forward. Also, Mantine Surf is pretty darn fun. While you were required to do it, you were not required to be good at it, which was an immense relief. Next thing I need to do is take on Lana's trial, which I'm...a bit nervous about. Pikachu's going to need to pretty much solo it and the only electric move he knows is Thunder Shock. Hopefully it won't take too long, I need that fishing rod to catch a Wishiwashi for my team. (Also, Pokemon Bank will apparently be getting patched to work with USUM in late November. Trading with Sun and Moon works fine, though.)
  10. (In which this morphs more and more into a straight-up Pokemon blog maybe I should find a new hobby for some variety) I’ve still been playing VC Gold, though it’s been sort of an on-and-off thing. There have been a few places where I’ve realized I needed to buckle down and grind, and that’s…not the most fun you can have with a Pokémon game, so it was rarely a speedy event. But I managed to get past the League on my first attempt, and getting through Kanto after that was rather brief. Then came Mt Silver, which actually has high enough levels that I can get decent EXP, so grinding hasn’t been too bad. I also realized you can rematch Silver on Mondays and Wednesdays, and discovered the Trainer House in Viridian City, so those have helped me train. Other than that I’ve been slowly expanding my Unown collection—I’ve decided I want to get another complete set here, since it’s their original appearance…sorta. The best way I’ve found is using the Level Ball made from Red Apricorns, so I’ve been trying to check in every day to bring one of those to Kurt if nothing else. Of course, there was still the ultimate goal of any Johto game: fighting Red. His levels aren’t quite as bad here as they are in HGSS, but still…73-81 is terrifying, especially when the second strongest trainer, Blue, doesn’t even hit level 60. I wasn’t sure how much I would need to grind, but after a while I decided that when my team reached level 60 across the board, I’d give it a shot. Turns out, that did it. It was nerve-wracking, but my team was able to pull off a victory against Red himself. Wow. And everyone got to be in the battle for at least a little, too, which I was concerned about, and I rather like that it was my starter that took out his starter (even tanking a crit Thunder in the process). So, a round of applause for my team! -Blaze V, the Typhlosion -Will, the Crobat -Mettaur, the Forretress -Lurerre, the Lanturn -Tau, the Xatu -Gori, the Primeape I still have a few more Unown to catch, and even once I’ve done that and Pokémon Transporter gets updated to send these Pokémon to Gen VII…I might hold off a bit. Being back in Gold has been wonderful, and now that I’ve proven just how awesome my partners are, I kind of want to enjoy where we stand a while longer.
  11. Because why not. Subject to change as time goes on, surely, but as of right now, here’s how I feel about the seven main series regions. 1. Sinnoh, to the surprise of no one. You’re probably saying this is solely based on nostalgic bias, and that is a huge part of it, I’ll admit that. Pokémon Diamond was what brought me back into Pokémon, and it and Platinum were the first times I started to really consume all the data I could about the games, which set the trend going forward. Sinnoh’s the reason I’m playing Pokémon today, so it will always have a very special place in my heart. Of course, there is more to love about Sinnoh: personally I very much like the general design aesthetic of Gen IV Pokémon, I adore that the region is steeped in legend and myth, Cynthia, you can play your badges like a xylophone, and how could you not enjoy the Underground? I know Sinnoh has faults, but it’s very special to me, and I dearly hope the eventual remake is on a system I own. 2. Alola. Probably not surprising either. It’s a beautiful and extremely unique region, and it introduces many new twists on the Pokémon formula without rendering it unrecognizable. Many things I liked about other games/generations/regions were present in Alola, and while they weren’t all handled perfectly, I do think they were handled well, and it helps give the region a more “complete” feel. The plot and mythology are both engaging, though I do wish they’d intertwined a bit more. The Pokédex features favorites from every generation, and as for the new Pokémon…well, I’m a bit 50/50 when it comes to Gen VII’s design aesthetic, but that doesn’t weigh it down too much. And Alola forms are inspired (even if I can’t seem to get behind any that end up Dark-type). There are a few miscellaneous things from ORAS that I wish had stuck around, but Sun and Moon are improvements over X and Y in every conceivable way, and that helps me just really love this region. And judging from what we’ve seen of USUM, I’m beginning to wonder if it could even give Sinnoh a run for its money. 3. Johto. Kind of bumpy getting here, but…nostalgia played a big part again. Gold version was the first Pokémon game that was really mine and I didn’t have to share, so it’s the focal point of nostalgia as far as I’m concerned. Yeah, some of my memories of Gold are hazy, I don’t feel like I excelled when I played HeartGold, and now that I’ve got VC Gold I’m just baffled by some of the Pokémon distribution choices, but the feel of the region is something that just works. Difficult to explain, but this is all subjectivity anyway. And there’s something interesting about this graphical style, something notably old but still in vibrant color, that helps it retain this feeling of being a refreshing update to Gen I. There are some great Pokémon here too, though it can be difficult to find some of them—Typhlosion will always be a favorite, and darn it, I love Unown, I know they’re utterly useless in a battle but I’m too fascinated by their concept to feel anything but love towards these letters with eyes. 4. Hoenn. Before ORAS, if you heard me mentioning Hoenn, it was only to disparage it. I lost interest in Pokémon during Gen III, a large part of which I still blame on not being able to send Pokémon from Gen II up to the new Generation, and even now a large number of the Pokémon designs introduced here just feel a bit odd to me. Again, this hatred was all before ORAS. ORAS, when they came out, were the utmost pinnacle of Pokémon games on a mechanical level, and are still pretty darn close. They took a great deal of the good things in X and Y and really drove them home, capitalized on everything people already liked about the region (except for trumpets), and introduced plenty of new things that all worked very well. I utterly adore soaring, I can’t speak too highly about that feature. Hoenn’s personality also shone really well in those games, and it’s helped me find a much greater respect for the region. Though, since nearly all I like about it is strictly from ORAS, Hoenn itself falls smack dab in the middle. 5. Unova. Really, I’ve always had a bit of a love-hate relationship with Unova, largely stemming from the fact that during Gen V I was unfortunately going through a bit of a genwunner phase. (Thank God that’s over.) Make no mistake, I still stand by some of my criticism: Black and White try far too hard to distance themselves from the other games, worst of all by expressly forbidding us from catching any Pokémon from the first four Generations until we beat their main story, and that issue is exacerbated tremendously by the general design aesthetic of Gen V Pokémon, which I find to be, well…pretty terrible. (With notable exceptions—Chandelure, Gigalith, and Zekrom are some of my all-time favorites.) But there’s also a lot that Gen V does right. It was an enormous step forward in story and characterization—the Gym Leaders never felt more like an actual ensemble of people, to say nothing of Team Plasma, and it’s always impressed me that the plot actually interrupts your initial League challenge. There’s also a wealth of post-game areas to explore, and we’ve still only covered Black and White. Black 2 and White 2 (as opposed to the expected Pokémon Gray) were a unique choice in and of themselves, and retained the best of their predecessors while strengthening the mechanics, adding loads more content, and no longer restricting you to Unovan-original Pokémon, thank God. (Though now that I think about it, I did only use Gen V mons when I played B2 and W2…huh…) Taking a fairer look at Unova, it really is a wonderful place, and as that teenage inclination towards arbitrary bad decisions abates it might actually move up this list. Still…Gen V Pokémon designs…I haven’t gotten over most of you. 6. Kanto. Kanto is just, well…basic. And I mean, it’s the first Gen, it kind of has to be since it’s the template. But still, I just kind of…I don’t know, I guess I’ve used up all the nostalgia I had for it and feel like there isn’t really much else going for it? I’ve trekked through this region probably more than any other, but I don’t know that I really have anything in particular to say about it. The last two slots on this list were hard to decide between, and part of why Kanto’s here and not the bottom might just be extra slack for having the burden of getting the franchise off the ground. Again, I don’t know that I really have anything to say. 7. Kalos. And like, I like Kalos. I do. But X and Y left me wanting more from it in the worst possible way, and while I was focusing on the positives and giving it the benefit of the doubt when I was expecting them to do a third version or a second pair to fix that, they dropped this region like it was hot and moved right along to Gen VII. So ultimately, Kalos feels like a half-baked trial run for the rest of the 3DS titles and even GameFreak doesn’t really care about it all that much. And that sucks. Because there are a lot of things I like about Kalos: the Gen VI Pokémon design aesthetic is marvelous, its Pokédex being a collection of favorites across all Gens was a wonderful decision that thankfully seems to be the new norm, and I love Mega Evolution and have honestly docked points from Sun and Moon for being so quick to discard it. It’s controversial, but I’m very glad for the changes made to experience—I’m in my 20s, I don’t have the time or patience to grind and now I don’t have to. But for everything Kalos did well, there’s a lot that is just so sloppy. Characterization is a huge step back from Gen V. Plot is about as bare as Gen I. Can’t say there’s much of a post-game. X and Y, in hindsight, just feel like they could have been so much more, and while we can forgive that at the start of a generation, not following up with a correction just makes it look so much worse. Because now X and Y are all we have to judge Kalos with, and it doesn’t compare well. Again, there’s a lot that I like about X and Y and Kalos—I enjoyed playing these games. I just wish I could have had an even better Kalos game after that. Sun and Moon feel like far more complete games, and remembering how abrupt the transition from Gen VI to Gen VII felt at the time, that’s somewhat strange to me. So I guess my relationship with Kalos now is a bit like what I once had with Unova, and maybe as time goes on I’ll be less bitter about the lack of a third game and I’ll feel better about this region. Chances are there will in the distant future come a day when X and Y are remade, and I dearly hope those take better advantage of Kalos. So, there you have it. Who’s offended?
  12. You’ve played Pokémon Sun and Moon, you know who Lillie is, she doesn’t need much introduction. It surely comes as little to no surprise that I love Lillie, and while it is due to the main reasons anyone loves her (she’s Totally Adorable and a Well-Developed Character), I’ve recently come to feel that she’s actually rather fascinating when you look at her as a writing technique. So: player characters in Pokémon. They aren’t characters, really. They’re consistently left totally and completely blank so that whoever’s playing the game can project themselves onto this avatar with as little friction as possible, taken to unnecessarily hilarious ends with Red’s silent reappearances in later games. Naturally, this approach has its fair share of pros and cons. On one hand, this aids immersion tremendously—you’re free to name this character whatever you want, command them to do whatever you want, interpret their behavior and thought processes however you want, and more recently even dress them however you want. Players turn that character into themselves, and are able to see themselves in the Pokémon world, albeit from a top-down perspective. It’s the ultimate extreme of role-playing, giving you a place in this world but then allowing you complete freedom to adjust to it however you like. But on the other hand, this might have some connection to the fact that Pokémon has never really been known for its story. It’s difficult to write a plot centered around an empty shell. The player does things to continue the story, but they’re very much watching it unfold before them, and only stepping in when given the opportunity as opposed to doing much to actively push it forward. Again, Pokémon’s pretty much always done it this way, and it seems to be working for them, so it may not be something you see a lot of people clambering for. But since there’s a boatload of Pokémon media that does feature main characters who are actually characters, I don’t know that we can say people are totally averse to the thought. It seems to me that Lillie is GameFreak’s attempt to have it both ways. The player character of Sun and Moon remains a void who can be anyone the person holding the 3DS wants them to be, but they have a very close friend who has her own desires and faults, is heavily-entwined in the overarching plot, and develops greatly as a character. Granted, she doesn’t do very much herself in terms of actively driving the plot forward—she spends a lot of time reacting, and not as much time decision-making—but her character is written in a way that that’s actually part of her development. Which is…kind of ingenious, really. Is she meant to be a metaphor for the Pokémon main series games learning to be more active in their storytelling, as opposed to just being an observer? Well, maybe at that point I’m reading a bit too much into it. For the sake of argument, let’s accept my premise as true: Lillie is an attempt to have a “main character” the plot centers on while still having a totally blank “player character” for absolute immersion. Then the only question becomes: Does it work? I’d say yes. People love Lillie. If you looked at a discussion of Sun and Moon prior to their release, you’d see people saying “This Lillie girl is off, we all agree she’s a Nihilego in disguise right?” Check them after its release, and you’ll see dozens of fans shouting about how wonderful she is. Like, I’m sure there are some people who don’t like her, no character can be universally-loved, but…I’m not sure I’ve seen anyone bashing her, and Sun and Moon have been out for close to a year now. When you have to go out of your way to find people who hate a character but get bombarded by people who like them without trying, it’s safe to say they’re pretty darn popular. Has the series had a breakout character like this before? Maybe with N? Certain Hoenn characters certainly had a resurgence when ORAS came out, but even then it seemed to typically be antagonists, plus Steven who just sort of pops in and out on occasion. Even when N does become an ally in B2W2, he’s only in, what…one scene that’s actually plot-relevant? What I’m getting at is that there’s a novelty to Lillie’s role in Sun and Moon’s story. How big a factor that novelty is in her appeal is something we can only know if this becomes more regular. I do hope to see this technique or something similar employed in future Pokémon games, because while I do like feeling like I’m my own trainer, I enjoy stories as well, and Lillie’s story is one I really enjoyed. I’ve gone on record as saying there are aspects of Alola and its cast I wish we’d seen more of, and perhaps the focus on Lillie has a hand in that, but still: she’s very unique in this franchise, and very interesting. Hopefully, she’s a good sign of what’s to come.
  13. It still feels like Gen VII just stared, but we’re already getting the last Pokémon in the current National Dex order! Stop by GameStop between now and the 23rd to get a code to download Marshadow, the very first Fighting/Ghost type! It’ll also come with Marshadium Z, letting Marshadow use its unique Z Move, Soul-Stealing Seven Star Strike. How cool does that sound? Just about a month until Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon! With the reveal of new Ultra Beasts, I can’t help but wonder if more Mythicals are programmed in as well, meaning we could get another few years of Gen VII. I hope we do, I can’t afford a new console.
  14. Holy wow. So we’ve got two new trailers for USUM, one that’s really dramatic and awesome (and in Japanese), and that’s highly informative (in English). Ha…where do I start? -It looks like Necrozma’s goal is to steal light from the world. There’s a new area you can travel to where apparently it did just that, and it seems to be the gist of what’s going on in the dramatic trailer. Would also explain why it wants to absorb Solgaleo and Lunala. -So, where is this lightless world, you ask? In Ultra Space. We get footage of the player riding Solgaleo and Lunala through a dimensional tunnel and into portals, ending up in places like the lightless city (which really gives me The World That Never Was vibes, I dig it) and a variety of habitats where the Ultra Beasts appear. I’m 90% sure this means that the post-game for USUM is all about charting Ultra Space and catching the Ultra Beasts there rather than them appearing across Alola one at a time. Which is awesome. -The city is inhabited by a group calling themselves the Ultra Recon Squad. Two different members appear in each version, and since they don’t seem to do much to stop you from entering their city, I’m led to believe we’re on good terms with them, but we do have to fight them at some point it looks like. Who knows. -So, the new Ultra Beasts! Burst is Fire Ghost and has a new move called Mind Blown, where it chucks its head at the enemy and it explodes, dealing some recoil. Okay. Assembly is Rock/Steel. There’s also a brand new Ultra Beast known as Adhesive, seen in possession of the Ultra Recon Squad. The design looks a bit different from the others, but I rather like it. It’s a Poison type. This all looks very promising. I mean, I was already pretty excited for these, and now we’re getting into some real good stuff. I better get a head start on anything I want to get accomplish this year because once I get these games I might not resurface for a while…
  15. VC Gold and Silver are out, in case you forgot. I got Gold. I was a little unsure, but in the end, the opportunity presented itself and I just couldn’t resist. And again, the Pokémon distribution seems odd, though part of it might just be which Pokémon I wanted. Plus there seem to be some limitations on the movesets that I sort of expected coming off of VC Red—it seems like, in later generations, Pokémon get access to (better) STAB moves earlier than they did in the first few generations, because they seem to have a bit of trouble with that here on the Virtual Console. But…dang. I love it. The graphics are retro while still showing a massive improvement over the first gen, the music is lovely, so many great system and interface changes are popping up, and while I’m having trouble finding some of them there are a lot of Pokémon here that I really adore. It’s Gold. This was more or less my first real Pokémon game—not one that I shared with my sisters, but one that was really mine—and the nostalgia is wonderful, much more so than was the case with Red. I started with Cyndaquil, of course, and have named him Blaze V, as in Blaze the Fifth. Blaze was the name of my Cyndaquil in the original Gold, and when I played HeartGold I named my Cyndaquil Blaze Jr in his honor, then when I needed a Cyndaquil and Quilava for my Living Dex we got Blaze III and Blaze IV…I considered going with something else, but again, I just couldn’t resist. The bloodline must continue. Currently a Quilava. The rest of my team, which I just finished putting together: -Will the Golbat, because I figured it’s time I use a Crobat. My thought process on the name was “Bat -> Batman -> Lego Batman -> Will Arnett -> Well I don’t have anything better so let’s just do that.” -Mettaur the Pineco, who took a bit of time to get because Headbutt trees but at least he didn’t use Selfdestruct thank God. -Lurerre the Chinchou, and now I never want to fish again. -Tau the Natu, my gosh you know how out of your way you have to go to catch a freaking Natu, when I heard they were at Ruins of Alph I got excited but nope you need SURF to get to the only patch of grass with Natu, and you have to go through Union Cave just to get to it, and some of them know Teleport, GOSH. -Gori the Mankey, since I liked having one in LeafGreen but never finished LeafGreen so…second chances. Okay, I’m off to grind. Cianwood is next but it's looking rather far away.
  16. Another Pokémon distribution is kicking off, but this one’s a little more complex than usual. A code just went up on the Pokémon website (PIKACHU20) that will allow you to download a special Pikachu wearing Ash’s cap. This Pikachu also comes with a unique Z Crystal, Pikashunium Z, letting it use its own super-exclusive Z Move, 10,000,000 Volt Thunderbolt! But! While you can only enter the code once, when you enter it will determine which cap the Pikachu is wearing. Of course, if you have multiple games you can surely enter the code into each during different windows and get a few variants, but unless you’ve got six Gen VII games you’re gonna need to time this carefully. I won’t copy-paste the entire schedule, but it looks like each timeframe lasts only about a week, so be sure you don’t miss your chance! Myself, I definitely want the original hat being distributed now, but since I have both Sun and Moon I suppose I should pick up another variant. Hm, none of the others really have that nostalgia kick for me, but I do love the heck out of Sinnoh so I’ll probably be getting that one? Oh, yeah, there is a seventh variant wearing the hat Ash wears in the new movie, but in order to get that you need to actually go to the theater and see said movie. Check your local theaters if that interests you.
  17. is out for Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon! Key points: -The mascots are, as theorized, Necrozma having absorbed Solgaleo/Lunala. The forms are referred to as Dusk Mane and Dawn Wings, respectively, and enable usage of Solgaleo and Lunala’s signature moves. -The special Rockruff has the ability Own Tempo, and knows special moves which differ slightly between US and UM. It evolves into Dusk Lycanroc when hitting level 25 between 5 and 6 PM (that’s such a narrow window argh). There’s also an exclusive Z Move for Lycanroc—all forms too, not just Dusk—called Splintered Stormshards, which looks pretty cool. It also cancels Terrain effects! -Something that’s both unexpected and sort of expected: two brand new Pokémon were shown! Both are Ultra Beasts, currently codenamed Assembly and Burst, but that’s basically all we know about them. Well, that and that they’re exclusive. Burst is in US, Assembly is in UM. Guess I need both version after all! Hahahahaughh…I mean I was probably going to do it anyway, but it’d be nice to not need to. In related news, it’s been revealed that if you get VC Gold or Silver you’ll get a special 3DS theme and a Celebi for your Gen VII games! Sort of tempted to put that on the team now…well, actually, I guess I need an Ultra Moon team now so I can just add it to that! Makes me wonder if any other new Pokémon will be added to USUM—especially Mythicals. Gen VII might last longer than I was fearing, so that’s some good news.
  18. If, like me, you’re already thinking of which Pokemon you want to use when you get Gold or Silver on Virtual Console, I highly recommend checking someplace like Bulbapedia or Serebii to see where in those games those Pokemon can be caught, and where you can get the items necessary to evolve them. You just may be disappointed. I first became aware of this when I thought this would finally be my chance to try out a Tyranitar. But as it turns out, Larvitar can only be caught at Mt. Silver…which you can only access after beating all 16 gyms, so…that’s not gonna work. And granted, Tyranitar is a pseudo-legendary, so that can’t be indicative of restrictions on other Pokemon, right? Oddly enough, any Pokemon that needs a stone to evolve is pretty out of luck. The only way to get Leaf, Thunder, Fire, or Water Stones is to show specific Pokemon to Bill’s grandpa, who lives in Kanto. You can only get a Sun Stone by placing first in the Bug Catching Contest. Your best bet is a Moon Stone, which your mom might buy with your savings, or you can pick one up in Tohjo Falls right before you head for the League. So much for using Jolteon and NIdoqueen. And I wasn’t really seriously considering it, but: Slugma. A brand new Gen II Pokemon. Can only be caught in Kanto. What. To say nothing of movesets, that’s an entirely different thing that I’ve only scratched the surface of. My point is, I advise you to double check these things now so you won’t be surprised when you’re playing the game. I know it would’ve thrown me for a loop.
  19. has been released for the next Pokemon movie. What we’ve seen previously implied this was a retelling of the first season, showing OG Ash and a Pikachu who doesn’t like him and Ho-Oh being there, but now *echoing voice* IN HD!! */echoing voice* This trailer shows that it’s not that at all. It starts out the same, but apparently after seeing Ho-Oh, Ash meets up with some entirely new characters with Pokemon from other regions who also have Rainbow Wings from Ho-Oh, and in a surprisingly soon reveal, the 802nd Pokemon Marshadow appears to guide them to the mountain where Ho-Oh lives. Serebii’s translations mention becoming “Heroes of the Rainbow” and Ash and Pikachu learning to become partners to defeat some powerful opponent. Also there’s a shot of an old man with a hat that looks suspiciously similar to the one Red wears. Yes, that Red. So…huh. My first reaction was “How can you go for a nostalgia cash-in while taking away virtually all the stuff people are nostalgic for?” Then I remembered one of my initial complaints was that “Movies that retell arcs are boring” and realized I actually like this development. I probably shouldn’t get my hopes too high, but there’s a chance for a rather interesting story here, and I’m looking forward to seeing if it delivers. But since this is giving us the Pikachu with the hat and Marshadow, that means we’ve already hit the bottom of the Gen VII event Pokemon well…which has me…worried…
  20. So apparently this is a thing people can do with TASBots: (Note that this is an unaltered ROM of Pokemon Yellow and could work on actual GameBoy hardware) I don't understand technology anymore.
  21. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_y1yuqwlko It's official, everyone. New Pokemon are coming to Pokemon Go! Later this week, over 80 Gen 2 Pokemon will become available to catch in the game. The baby Pokemon of Gen 2 have already been available to be caught from catching eggs. But these will be catchable by throwing Pokeballs at them. There will also be new berries as well as items that help to evolve certain Pokemon. I don't know much about them as of this entry, but more info will probably be released for them soon. I've been waiting for this announcement for a long time. I still play Pokemon Go on a daily basis. Not to the extent that I did a few months ago, but I play it enough to get the daily bonuses. This, however, will most likely give me a reason to play it a lot more, and I can't wait to get back on the hunt for catching new Pokemon. What do you guys think of this announcement? Are you excited that Gen 2 Pokemon are coming to Pokemon Go?
  22. So has anyone else tried out the Pokemon Duel mobile game that came out not too long ago? Here is a trailer for it for those who don't know what it is: I downloaded it about a week ago and have put a couple hours into it. I actually think it's kind of fun. I'm still learning how some things work, like how the cards work and how to evolve Pokemon. But I've liked what I've seen of it so far. For those complaining about Pokemon Go only having mostly Gen 1 Pokemon, they won't be able to say that about this game. Pokemon Gen 1 through 6 are in this. I'm not sure if Gen 7 Pokemon are in it though. And even though the Pokemon are just figures, at least it has more than one Generation of Pokemon. Plus, you can battle people online. I've read that some people have had some server problems with these online battles, but I haven't experienced any issues as of this blog entry. Also, I don't know if you can make a friends list to help you find and fight your friends. But regardless, online battles are there for those who want to have them. And for those who don't, there is a single player campaign of the game for you to complete as well. Overall, this is a neat Pokemon game IMO. I've enjoyed the regular Pokemon games and Pokemon Go more, but this is still a cool name that I will probably continue playing whenever I have some free time on my hands. Have you tried out this game yet? And if so, what do you think of it?
  23. Whaddaya know, we’re already getting our first Gen VII Mythical! Magearna is available starting today! So, to get this you need to have beaten the main story of Sun/Moon to unlock the QR Scanner. Go to Pokémon.com to find the QR code, scan it, and then follow the instructions to find an NPC who will give you Magearna! So that’s 1 of 2 Mythicals already available not even a month after Sun/Moon’s release. That’s…slightly concerning in a way…
  24. Wow, it’s December. 2016 is virtually over, we’re in Gen VII…but there’s one last Pokémon being distributed for XYORAS! Access Mystery Gift for Meloetta, the last of the anniversary Mythical distributions! You probably forgot about this one, since they were in the anime instead of a movie, and people don’t really watch the anime anymore. Well, except for those folks who got super into the XY series and immediately started whining when we got one look at the Sun and Moon series. They should get over it. CATCHY SIGN-OFF!
  25. So I finally got around to downloading the Pokemon Bank last night. I had been telling myself that I would do it for awhile, but I just hadn't gotten around to it. (Thanks to being an adult. ) It feels great now having a place to store all my Pokemon from Omega Ruby and Y that I want to save. Particularly the Legendary Pokemon from the 20th anniversary event going on this year. Though the release of Sun and Moon had a part in me finally getting the Bank, the main reason I got it was because I kind of want to replay Omega Ruby again, but not lose my event Pokemon when I started over. (Or any other Pokemon that I might want to save.) And of course, whenever I do get Pokemon Sun, I would like to eventually transfer my Legendaries over that game as well. I might even replay the original Red, Blue, or Yellow too, just to get some Pokemon out of them as well. It is a shame that you can't transfer items as well, but I can understand that restriction. I'm just glad I have a way to save my Legendary Pokemon from being deleted whenever I started over Omega Ruby. Because losing them after all my time spend on collecting them would've mad me really sad. But that's all I got to say about this. Happy Thanksgiving Eve everyone!
