EDIT: Argh, the title got cut off. It was originally "THEORY: Skull Scorpio’s awful looking tail, and why it may actually make sense". If an admin/mod could shorten it to, say, "THEORY: The logic in Skull Scorpio's ugly tail" or something, I'd be quite grateful. Ah yes, Skull Skorpio, with his aesthetically unappealing Technic whatever-the-heck tacked onto his legs... ...wait, his legs? Oh yeah. This is something I presumed the moment I saw Skull Scorpio. His tail being attached to that torso bone's pelvis via what appear to be skeletal thighs, brought up an interesting idea... What if those were his thighs? The Skull Army are reanimated, re-amalgamated skeletal warriors, crafted from the remains of ancient Okotoan residents by Kulta's dark magical powers (as denoted by the glowing orange patches on their undead bodies). But what's to say these skeletons we see bumbling around on Okoto are in the original layout that they were when they were buried? What's to say that Kulta didn't take a little bit of creative license when magicking up his spooky soldiers? My idea is that Skull Scorpios were originally humanoid skeletons, which were then reassembled by Kulta on their backs. Legs were attached to and grown from what were their spines, and their heads and arms were twisted back to face up away from the body. The original legs were left as only thighs, to which the mechanical clamping tails, amalgamated from other mechanical components in the earth, were attached to what were originally their knees. In short, Skull Scorpios are incredibly unnatural, eldritch abominations, which spit in the face of anatomy and logic. So, yeah, that's how I envision it. Or at least, that's how I try and make sense of why the heck Skull Scorpio's tail looks so goshdarn awful. TL;DR My idea is that Skull Scorpios used to be regular skeletons, but were reformed on their backs with big mechanical pinching weapons attached onto what were their knees.

Skull Scorpio is an underrated set in my opinion. Sure it has its flaws but I really liked it. So I've come up with a few alternate designs that you can use to improve your Skull Scorpio set. Gallery when public: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=560545 Here is an Lxf file of all the different builds. I will update with 2015 bionicle parts if/when LDD Updates. For now I just use replacements in the LDD version. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullScorpio/skull_scorpio_mod.lxf First are two different leg designs. One is more like the original and one is similar to LOSS. Both sets of legs have posability. These pictures also show off the new torso I made for Skull Scorpio. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullScorpio/skull_scorpio_legs_1.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullScorpio/skull_scorpio_legs_2.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullScorpio/skull_scorpio_legs_3.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullScorpio/skull_scorpio_legs_4.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullScorpio/skull_scorpio_legs_5.jpg. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullScorpio/skull_scorpio_legs_6.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullScorpio/skull_scorpio_legs_7.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullScorpio/skull_scorpio_legs_8.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullScorpio/skull_scorpio_legs_9.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullScorpio/skull_scorpio_legs_10.jpg Next are 3 different claw designs. One of them being the original just without the transparent orange. The third one was slightly inspired by TheDesuComplex http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullScorpio/skull_scorpio_claws_1.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullScorpio/skull_scorpio_claws_2.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullScorpio/skull_scorpio_claws_3.jpg Next is two different shoulder designs. One with the arms out and one that brings the arms in close like the original set http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullScorpio/skull_scorpio_arms_1.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullScorpio/skull_scorpio_arms_2.jpg Last up is the tail. I had a few alternate designs in mind until I came up with these four. The first one is the original just modified to be a bit smaller. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullScorpio/skull_scorpio_tail_1.jpg The second one was inspired by LoganMcOwen's one http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullScorpio/skull_scorpio_tail_2.jpg The third one is just a standard scorpion tail using the skull villain sword http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullScorpio/skull_scorpio_tail_3.jpg The last one is my favorite. Its a slightly modified version of the one TheScorpionStrike did. Here is his video of how the tail function works And the picture of my version http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullScorpio/skull_scorpio_tail_4.jpg The final pic is how I have my Skull Scorpion displayed just without Pohutu's drained mask . I added that in for effect http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/takanuinuva/Bionicle2015/SkullScorpio/skull_scorpio_mod.jpg

Managed to pick up Skull Scorpio at a discount. I know I mock this set every now and then but the stinger is more FUN than you'd expect. Though I'm not sure I've ever seen scorpions with stingers like that. It didn't even inject venom into me. One good thing about the set: the torso is constructed nicely. The tail and legs make everything fall apart though, but the legs are actually quite easy to improve. Tail, not so much, but at least it's fun. CCBS really needs an equivalent to the Y-joint with the axle-hole facing up that many of the 2005-2007 titans had, because those provide a really, really easy way to make Skull Scorpio's legs even slightly articulated. Well, the back two, anyway. It only really needs one point of articulation on each leg, any more and I imagine it would get a bit unstable and frustrating to pose. The front two transparent neon green shells get in the way a bit. As with the other Skull Skeletons, the transparent orange here... well, it fits. It's nice and contrasting to the trans neon green. Then again, I like a lot of colour combinations. We should really have more transparent colour combinations. It also bothers me Gali doesn't even get a fully transparent mask. For all intents and purposes, I'm guessing the Transparent Orange Mask of Fire is meant to be a drained version of the Mask of Fire, so 5/6 Toa get drained masks and also three different masks. Also regarding masks, it surprises me Skull Basher and Scorpio have the exact same mask, no recolours or anything. Would've thought one or the other would have had a gunmetal version, like how Warrior and Grinder have gunmetal/silver.

What does the Skull Scorpio's stinger tail actually do? Does it inject venom? Does it snap you in half? Does it grab you and throw you 30 feet into the air? Does it warp reality? Does it just want a friend?

http://imgur.com/a/lBM5M As some of you probably know, I am currently at San Diego Comic-Con 2015. Those of you who do also probably know that I managed to snag FIVE of the exclusive Skull Scorpio mask, as well as six of the free posters LEGO is handing out. As such, I believe it's my job to probably take higher quality pictures than the ones currently available, including the mask on Scorpio himself.

Skull Scorpio has a hidden power so great we should all fire it You see, Skull Grinder grinds things. Skull Basher bashes things. Skull Slicer slices things, and by the way it makes a great chef. Skull Warrior... wars... things and is a great war... warrior. Notice how they all do what the second word of their name suggests. Skull Scorpio... shoots Scorpions. It shoots scorpions out of its tail, out of its claws, and out of its face. Because it's Skull Scorpio. Scorpions... have stingers. And claws. Don't forget the claws. These stingers... can kill. So the next time you see a Skull Scorpio, you better respect it, you understand? It can kill you with scorpions.

Ever since I acquired Lord of Skull Spiders, my position on functions has been reversing. I think they're great and would like to see a wider variety of them. This has also made me realise I've probably been a bit harsh on Skull Scorpio, although we'll have to wait and see how well its function works and how many parts it has. Skull Scorpio has got to be one of the most unique sets at its price point in quite a while, IMO. Although I'd agree about the legs, we'll have to wait and see the price point and piece count - that'll have to be taken into account. It would appear that every BIONICLE set is now to have a function: either gears, crushing, bashing, or the tail thing. I don't think functions are a bad thing any more - I think they're something that some sets have sorely needed to help set them apart from other sets. 1. Do you want more functions? 2. What is your opinion regarding functions?
