  1. Since us old fogeys love to sit around and reminisce about the "good ol' days", I figure as one of the few still-active remnants of BZPower's glory days, I have a unique platform to keep the old BIONICLE flame alive, both just for fun and for future edification of fans born well after BIONICLE's start that may need some insight on what the theme was like in the early years of the 21st century. Today, I'll dive into the summer of 2005, the middle of a very convoluted year for BIONICLE. The first, in fact, if you ask me. The first big upset was, as a person living in the USA, only being able to obtain the Toa Hordika and Rahaga for the first half of the year. The Visorak, Roodaka, Sidorak, Keetongu, and the first BIONICLE playsets were all summer releases here. Lucky Europeans had been enjoying most of that (sans the playsets) since the year began. Feelings aside, this also created some storytelling difficulties, as in order to promote the Hordika in the USA, the magazines and comics couldn't really show off the Visorak or their masters. Unlike the case with the Vahki in 2004, there was no "substitute" enemy for the Toa to deal with until summer rolled around. Therefore, right out of the gate, we have the Hordika dealing with the Visorak and appearances of Roodaka, which was frustrating since there was no way to get the sets unless I wanted to buy foreign. So that set the stage for summer 2005. That year, I would spend the longest time away from home alone (to date) at a summer academy for math and science. That would begin in late June, so I hoped the Visorak at least would start making an appearance on Wal-Mart shelves by then. No such luck. But anyways, I had another important distraction! In 2004, I was one of the 50 first place winners of the LEGO Club Magazine Rahi Building Challenge. It was an amazing accomplishment for 15 year-old me, and it saved me a lot of money by having all six Vahki as my prize, along with a letter from the desk of Greg Farshtey himself congratulating me. Therefore, I hoped to have similar success in the Dark Hunter Building Challenge. By the start of summer vacation, I was just about done with him. I gave him no name, but after photography with my dad, he just christened him "Plasticman". My dad wasn't overly fond of my LEGO obsession, especially the BIONICLE component of it, but he humored me enough times, especially when it came to competitions like this. "Plasticman" was, in my opinion, a vast improvement over my Rahi from last year. Unlike my Rahi, he had a function! Instead of a left arm, he had a grafted wheel of assorted Kanohi Masks, pried from his fallen Toa foes (or other kinds of mask-wearing entities). By spinning a gear on his back, you could select the Kanohi he would use to augment his battle abilities. In this way, his species was able to utilize the power of the masks in a brutish way. In his remaining right hand, I gave him a "hunting staff", a probably remnant of his tribal upbringing before being recruited by the Dark Hunters. As you might guess from the attached picture, his whole look and design was born from looking at a Rahkshi spine and thinking, "Hmm, this would make one wicked mohawk". One Metru shoulder armor and two Bohrok teeth later, and I pretty much had his head. The torso was a bit of a puzzle, particularly integrating the gears for driving the mask selection spinner, but I finished it and quickly assembled his hips. The Hordika chest armor and Metruan silver chest piece made for a great "loincloth", fusing a tribal look in clothing with a "punk" sensibility to the coloring and "hair" style. With a week or so to spare before my departure for the North, I took my pictures of "Plasticman" with dad and mailed them to the LEGO Magazine. I wish I could remember the name and description I gave him, or even had a copy of the letter. But alas, that is lost to history, unless the LEGO Magazine keeps the photo and card in an archive somewhere. But the big news, of course, would be if I would win this time. Unfortunately, it was not to be. I was not selected even among the runners-up, and I lost again a chance to be a part of BIONICLE. You can look at the winners in the Official Dark Hunters Guide (if you own it; I don't). From what I've seen of them on BioSector01, I must admit I was a little out of my league. But I'll let you judge for yourself! Attached is my sole surviving photograph of my Dark Hunter. In all probability, I likely made a topic for him in the BBC Forum, but that was back in 2005 and is lost forever now. That pretty much wrapped up my summer as far as BIONICLE went! When I came back from the academy in August, I managed to spend the remainder of living expenses money on a Visorak (Keelerak, I think), along with Roodaka and Sidorak. At that point, they were old hat to me, but the "Web of Shadows" movie was still on the horizon for October. Fall would bring more surprises (and even more convolutions!) to the BIONICLE story. Stay tuned for further reminiscing!
  2. So I'm really going ham on Stud.io lately. The ability to put any piece in any colour, which I think LDD had heavy restrictions on back when I tried it a few years ago. The ability to model and insert your own custom parts, or canon parts missing from the library is also something LDD couldn't do. One such use for this is Lariska, whose "Blue Green" colouration meant you had to either go back to old technic to find teal pieces, or build something blue and green, (which is not the same thing). But now, You can build with the full range of Bionicle parts, and make any of them teal any time you want, which means the Lariska in my head can finally exist. Lariska's first appearance was in 2006, so I only used parts which existed in 2006. In fact, the only 2006 part is the open ball joint from the Toa Inika. Otherwise, she's styled to look like something which could exist in 2005, like most of the Dark Hunters are. This is based on a real MOC i built back then, but I always knew I'd have to just imagine the teal. I also prefer Panrahk staffs for the daggers, instead of Guurahk, but I couldn't find a 3D model of them to import. She's got hordika parts, and toa metru stuff, very 2004/2005. If she resembles Roodaka, That's not entirely a coincidence. That's the other murder lady from 2005 who was around to stick in your head when Lariska had no image. Nidhiki, Krekka, the Shadowed One, Charger, Conjurer, Spinner, Tracker, Vengeance, and Voporak also use the vahki head. It's kind of a Dark Hunter signature. There are a bunch of pieces here that don't appear in Stud.io's library. The hordika legs, the vakhi head, and the nuva shoulder. They're from a package posted to reddit by u/SwampKryakwa. I don't think I'm allowed to link to it here, but it's easy to find. Brickshelf Gallery containing some older drafts, and more pictures inside a spoiler tag, so the post isn't giant:
  3. Hello everyone. I´ve decided to review all the Dark Hunters that didn't came in set form or in any combiner set or instructions (and the reason is basically beacause I don't have them), but who knows? I might review them later on. So okay lets go to the main point. I've posted this because I thaught it could be something interesting because there almost no reviews of the Dark Hunters. I don't promise I'm gonna review them all because I don't have all the pieces but I'm gonna try my best. So don't fell any obligation to watch this. But if you decide to watch it, I hope you enjoy it. "Ancient": "Charger": "Darkness" "Hordika Dragon": "Shadow Stealer": "Tyrant": "Seeker": "Dweller": "Amphibax": "Mimic":
  4. BS01's Unnamed Species List has a ridiculous number of sapient species in the MU. Many of them were first mentioned in the bios of the Barraki, OoMN, and DH and simply waved off as their own unique species. But for several years, it's been my fascination to condense this list into as few species as possible based on similar physical traits, powers, or histories. Many of the inconsistencies are easily explained by mutations or technology, or simply interspecies variations. Just as Matoran and Skakdi have elemental subspecies, many of these other species could be divided up in new ways. But before you go critiquing my decisions, please give the FAQs a read, as they address many of the common concerns. This blog entry is the product of three different revisions of this list, primarily my research but also that of others noted below. With the rearranging of the forums, I wanted to make sure to post it somewhere safe for mine and other's reference. Also I'm using Spoiler tags for ease of reading without really being sure that's okay, so let me know if it's not... Canon Barraki Other To be reclassified as Rahi FAQs
  5. Hi, guys! I know that Bionicle had ended three years ago sadly, but let’s be happy about Bionicle for something else. You see, this year, 2019, is the 15th anniversary of Bionicle’s 2004 storyline, which is a prequel where the Turaga of Mata Nui from 2001 are telling their people and Toa who they truly are and their history with a new place that they are settling in, which is an island city called Metru Nui. The Turaga were once a team of six Toa called the Toa Metru and were Metru Nui’s heroes, which explains why the Toa Nuva and Takanuva were not the first Toa on the island of Mata Nui. In the Turaga’s story, to Toa Metru go to collect six mysterious magical disks called the Great Disks while protecting Metru Nui from a mysterious threat. Anyway, I know that this year doesn't have anything Bionicle-related (well, has anyone seen anything Bionicle in The Lego Movie 2, like The Lego Movie in 2014?), but let’s celebrate the 15th anniversary of the 2004 storyline. That would enlighten you more. Let me tell you the 2004 storyline: The storyline started when the Turaga and their people are moving in to Metru Nui, which is ruined and abandoned, they tell the Toa Nuva that they were not the first Toa, which surprises the Toa, so the Toa have the Turaga explain this. So, the Turaga tell their story. Their story started a thousand years ago, when the Matoran were living in Metru Nui when it wasn’t ruined and use magical disks called Kanoka Disks, which shaped like the Bamboo Disks in 2001. The Disks can be used to make Kanohi masks. Metru Nui is divided into six city districts, and each is where each Matoran type lived. The districts are Ta-Metru, home of the Ta-Matoran, Ga-Metru Ga-Matoran, Le-Metru Le-Matoran, Po-Metru Po-Matoran, Onu-Metru Onu-Matoran, and Ko-Metru Ko-Matoran. The island itself looks like Mata Nui by shape and color. Also, each of the Metru was looked after by one of six types of robotic law enforcers called the Vahki. A Toa of Fire named Lhikan (his name makes me think of Lincoln. Lol.) sensed danger in the city, so he went to get six magical stones called the Toa Stones, the object that Takua used in Tale of the Tohunga in 2001. However, two Hulk-sized villains, Krekka and Nidhiki, who were bounty hunters called Dark Hunters, were after him, but he got away. Krekka is an unintelligent ape-like blue being who is the brawn, lost the right eye, and has a shoulder-mounted launcher that shoots Kanoka Disks. Nidhiki is an insect-like green monster with four insect legs and pincers who is the brains, was once a Toa, and shoots Kanoka Disks from his mouth. Both of them can fly. Lhikan delivered each Toa Stone to a Matoran from one of the Metru, and they are Onewa the Po-Matoran, Whenua the Onu-Matoran, Nuju the Ko-Matoran, Matau the Le-Matoran, Nokama the Ga-Matoran, and finally Vakama the Ta-Matoran. After that, the Dark Hunters kidnapped Lhikan, and Vakama witnessed this and had a vision about something relating to this. Vakama felt bad about Lhikan’s capture. Lhikan also told the Matoran that they have to go to a shrine where they will use the Stones, and when they went inside the place, they met each other. When they put the Stones in a pedestal in the middle of the shrine, the Stones turned them into new Toa. They had no idea how to use their new Toa powers or weapons yet. Vakama had another vision where they must find the Greak Disks, which are mysterious and special Kanoka Disks. The Toa formed a team called the Toa Metru, and Vakama is their leader. They went off to find the Disks, and each of the Toa must find its Metru’s own Disk. They got a group of six Matoran who use guns called Kanoka Launchers, which shoot Kanoka Disks, to assist them. Along the way, they fought against an evil and talking plant-based monster called the Morbuzakh, which was threatening Metru Nui. The Toa defeated the monster. They then went to the middle part of Metru Nui called the Coliseum, where they are greeted by the city’s ruler named Turaga Dume. Dume challenged the Toa with some challenges. The Toa saw the Dark Hunters accompanying him and he had been acting suspicious, so they tried to tell their people about it, but they didn’t listen. Dume tried to capture and imprison the Toa, but Vakama, Nokama, and Matau escaped while the others got kidnapped. The Dark Hunters tried to capture Vakama’s part of his team many times, but they couldn’t succeed. Along the way, Vakama noticed that the Great Disks can be combined into a new disk. The Toa also met a pack of big rhino-like Rahi called the Kikanalo, which are led by a chief. Both parts of the Toa team were learning how to use their Kanohi masks’ powers and their weapons while Vakama kept getting more visions. Nokama, who uses a Kanohi mask that can translate languages, was able to understand the Rahi, so she had them help her part get to the other part. The Toa Metru fought the Vahki along the way. The other part, which consisted of Nuju, Onewa, and Whenua, were assisted by some Turaga stranger who helped them how to use their Kanohi powers. The two parts of the team eventually reunited while encountering various Rahi. Every Toa but Vakama know how to use their Kanohi powers, and Vakama is having some self-doubt about himself as a Toa by title. The Turaga revealed himself to be Lhikan as a Turaga, who sacrificed his Toa power to create the Toa Metru in the first place. The Toa fought that Lhikan wanted them to save the city since he also said that cryptic saying “Save the heart of Metru Nui”, but Lhikan clarified that he meant the city’s people. Plus, they discovered Dume sleeping in a sphere-like container called a Matoran Pod while Lhikan revealed that there is an evil imposter who is pretending to be Dume and is the one who is accompanied and employs the Dark Hunters. Along the way, the fake Dume, who is assisted by a Hulk-sized Rahi bird called a Niwark who transports him and tells him information, had the Matoran get inside the Matoran Pods. Meanwhile, the Toa and Lhikan got themselves a beetle-like vehicle to travel and get to the Coliseum to try to stop the fake Dume from getting the Matoran, but they were too late. The fake Dume revealed himself as Makuta from 2001 and 2003, the very villain who the Toa Nuva fought and the one responsible for the events in the storyline and is the main antagonist of it. He also revealed his plan to use the Pods to wipe out the Matoran’s memories, use a special Kanohi mask called the Vahi, aka the Mask of Time, the very mask that Tahu used in the early 2003 storyline with the Bohrok-Kal, to accelerate the process, and become their leader. He used Metru Nui’s energies to put the Great Spirit Mata Nui into a coma, which is said in the 2001 storyline. Great disaster happened because of this. The Toa and Lhikan got the captive Matoran in their Matoran Pods to get away from Makuta. Makuta used a dark power called a Shadow Hand, which is a physical arm made of his shadow energy that can grab things, to get his Niwark and the Dark Hunters, and he then absorbed them to kill them, so he can have their essence to transform into a more powerful and bigger form, which is Hulk-sized and uses his victims’ body parts. Makuta then tried to stop the heroes, but the heroes survived, but lost some of their Matoran into a sea of Protodermis. Along the way, Vakama combined all six of the Great Disks into a new disk called the Disk of Time, and then used his mask-making skills that he has when he was a Matoran to turn the disk into the Vahi, something that Makuta tried to have Vakama do when Vakama was a Matoran. Vakama went to face Makuta with the Vahi in hand. He tried to use the Vahi against Makuta while Makuta tried use the Shadow Hand to eat Vakama, but Vakama only slowed the attack down while the Hand is still after him. However, Lhikan saved Vakama’s life by using his shield to block the Hand, which grabbed the shield and put some shadow energy into Lhikan, which was deadly. Lhikan was dying, but he gave his Mask of Shielding to Vakama for safekeeping. Vakama then learned how to use his Mask of Concealment. He stopped Makuta from his getting claws on the Vahi by shooting Vahi out of Makuta’s claws and it sunk into the sea. Makuta got angry and then used the Hand to try to get Vakama in revenge, but Vakama kept dodging the attack by tricking Makuta into getting some rock pillars. Vakama then tricked Makuta into getting a bigger pillar to hurt himself by slamming into a wall. While Makuta is greatly weakened, the other Toa Metru reunited with Vakama and then the whole team combined their elemental powers to create a Toa Seal to imprison Makuta, the same thing that the Toa Mata used to imprisoned the Bahrag in the 2002 storyline. After the threat was defeated, the Toa got all of the Matoran and then brought them to the island of Mata Nui. The Toa sacrificed their power to awaken the Matoran from their sleep in the Matoran Pods, and this caused the Toa to turn into the Turaga of Mata Nui. The Matoran got shrunk and weaker a little when they were in the Pods. When one of the Matoran named Jaller’s mask broke, Vakama used Lhikan’s mask to give Jaller back his strength. That’s where the Turaga started their new life on Mata Nui, as they turned the Pods into their villages and ruled over the Matoran way before the 2001 storyline happened. However, there is something in between Makuta’s defeat and the new settlement in the island of Mata Nui, and that’s where the 2005 storyline happened. To celebrate, let me ask you this: What are your fond memories about the storyline and/or what do you like about it? For me, I like the canister sets. They look cool, and I love their vast range of new pieces. I like the Toa Metru’s new heads, where you don’t have to lose their masks easily. Plus, I like that they have bendable limbs, both arms and legs, but how the torso is designed is weird because it’s V-shaped in the chest, but you could make the Toa look like that they are running. Lol. Anyway, I like their new weapons and how you can store them and do multiple functions with them. The Disk launchers in general are neat because that they keep the discs tighter than the 2001 Matoran’s hands can. The Toa’s masks are neat. However, the Toa Metru don’t have unique secondary colors, like the Toa Mata/Toa Nuva, as they have gray parts. As for the Vahki, they look cool. It’s neat that you can turn them into four-legged insects. Plus, you can shoot Kanoka Disks from their mouths. As for the small sets, which are the Toa Metru’s Matoran helpers, well, they look cool. Again, nice new pieces, including the limbs and the triangle-shaped torsos, but the colors are the same problem sort of. It’s neat that their masks look like they are switched from 2001 in a sense for variety on the new Matoran and that they have silver parts blended on the masks. Plus, it’s cool that there are both Great and Noble versions of the Turaga’s masks from 2001. Also, these Matoran are from Mata Nui Online Game 2 in 2003. As for the Titan sets, they look neat. I like Krekka’s launcher and how it can retract. I am not fond of his arms, though. I wonder what would he look like with he had kept his lost eye. Nidhiki looks cool. I like his claws, insect legs, his shooting mouth, and how he can change from centaur shape to crab shape. His limbs look kind of lanky, though. For the Turaga Dume and Niwark pack, that is a neat set. Dume looks cool, but looks more of a Matoran than a Turaga. Lol. I like Niwark’s clawed feet and the function on his torso to carry Dume around. His wings look weird, though. There is the Lhikan & Kikanalo set. That’s neat, too. I like Lhikan’s mask, big swords, and gold armor. It’s cool that he can combine his swords into a shield. I like the Rahi. He looks cool. I like his claws and horn and the use of the Chronicler’s Staff head pieces on the head, but some of his joints are kind of stiff. Sad thing is that Lhikan and the Rahi never worked together in the story. As for the combo Titan set, Ultimate Dume, which is Makuta’s winged Titan form and is a combination of Krekka, Nidhiki, and Dume & Niwark, that looks awesome! I like the wings, teeth, and claws, and he’s very tall! I like that he has a version of Makuta’s Mask of Shadows, which is design to fit over his big head. I also like that it looks kind of like the 2003 version. He looks kind of lanky, though. There’s a pack that gives you some Kanoka Disks. That’s neat, as you would want to collect these disks because there are many different kinds of them. The plant monster is not officially a Lego set, but in a Lego magazine from Europe, there is a sponge toy based on it. That’s weird, but alright. Next, the combo models. Well, they are cool and alright. The centaur-like combo model, which is made of Vakama, Onewa, and Matau, looks neat. I like the tail and blades. The other model with the other three Toa Metru, which looks like a penguin, looks alright, and I like the claws. There’s also the six-Toa-Metru model, which looks awesome! Ain’t she a beauty? I like how she has the colors and tools of the whole Toa team! The combo models for the Matoran look alright and cool, too. I like that you can shoot Kanoka Disks from one of them. They both look cute as well. The Vahki combo models look awesome! The Lorahk model, which is made of Nidhiki and Dume & Niwark, looks cool, but kind of lanky. I wish that Lego could have provided instructions on the Toa Metru’s Toa Kaita (never happened in the story, but would be nice in many ways), the Matoran’s Matoran Nui (featured in the story only), and Krekka could combine with Nidhiki and Dume & Niwark individually, if you know what I mean. It would also be nice to see what Nidhiki looks like as a Toa, and released that form as a set. I also wish that there are five other Toa Disks rather than the Fire one in Vakama’s set. Overall, for the sets, they look cool and neat. I like the Disk launchers. However, the gray color is overused. For the story and media, well, I think it’s very great. The story is told through books primarily, comics, and a direct-to-video movie called Bionicle 2: Legends of Metru Nui. Plus, there is an online game where you play as Vakama to fight against the plant monster by shooting its vines with Vakama’s disk launcher. There was originally a video game that is a sequel to Bionicle: The Game in 2003, but that got cancelled for some reason, probably because the first game didn’t go so well. There’s also a handheld game called Bionicle: Maze of Shadows, but it’s in 2005. I like the Toa Metru because they are cool people, and I understand that they are rookies when they are learning how to be Toa. Matau is a funny guy. I feel bad about Vakama’s self doubts about himself being a Toa and he had been seeing nightmarish visions. We get to learn a lot about how the Turaga of Mata Nui learn about the experiences in 2001-2003. Lhikan is a good character. I see that he was trying to be a good teacher for the Toa Metru. I like the villains. They’re cool. Nidhiki and Krekka make a good comical duo. I feel about about them getting eaten by Makuta. Poor guys. Makuta was always sinister and good at planning, and it’s sad to see that he put Mata Nui to sleep. That’s horrifying. It’s cool that he can use the Shadow Hand to grab and eat beings and stuff, which is scary to look at. It’s scary that Nidhiki called Lhikan his “brother”, which made me question who he was until that I learned that he was once a Toa. It’s sad to think about it. Krekka is a funny guy who is dumb. It’s interesting that the Kikanalo are ran by a chief, and that they helped the Toa Metru on their journey. It’s also interesting that the Matoran shrunk from their Metru Nui forms to Mata Nui forms. The 2004 Matoran are alright. One of The is the notorious Ahkomu, the very bad guy who made his people sick in Mata Nui Online Game in 2001. He should have learned better. The Vahki are cool. Overall, it’s a good prequel, it has very good character development, and it’s cool to learn about the Turaga’s origins and how masks are made. It’s one of my favorite storylines. So, guys, what are your fond memories of the storyline, what do you like about it, what’s your favorite 2004 set, favorite character(s) in 2004, favorite moment in the storyline, what things remind you of the 2004 storyline, and/or how would you celebrate it? For me, well, my favorite sets are Vakama, Matau, Whenua, Nidhiki, Krekka, Ultimate Dume, and the red, blue and black Vahki, and my favorite characters are Matau, Whenua, Makuta, Nidhiki, and Krekka. The things that remind me are: 1. X-Men: First Class in 2011 - kind of similar. 2. Hero Factory - How Preston Stormer looked at Thresher as his teacher is like how Vakama looked at Lhikan. Plus, the Queen Beast reminds me of Nidhiki. 3. Bionicle 2015-2016 - Skull Slicer’s game reminds me of the Coliseum. Plus, Master Tahu’s swords are like Lhikan’s, but more connected, I would say. 4. Ninjago - How the early Elemental Masters experiences their encounters with various threats.
  6. Cans beings mutated from Matoran, like the aforementioned Dark Hunters and member of the Order of Mata Nui be turned into toa if it was their destiny, and if so would they keep any of the powers they currently have? My opinion is that individuals like Firedracax and the Subterranean would not be able to become toa as they are too mutated, while the others would be able to become toa. And if they become toa they would lose any extra abilities they possess.
  7. Merry Christmas BZPower! This is a short story (technically a novelette, coming in at 10582 words) summarizing a back story for Ancient. It is written for Click. The guidelines followed as offered were: Dark Hunters; Character/location exploration; expand the lore of a DH Hope you all enjoy - especially you, Click! EDIT UPDATE: Not sure what happened, but the end of the story has been missing for the past two weeks from this topic... I've added another post to fix that mistake. I apologize for a story that had no resolution! * * * As soon as he walked through the flap of his tent, Ancient threw down his sketch tome and removed the tool belt from around his waist. He tossed the belt beside the small lamp on the one crate in his meager dwelling and fell onto the bed roll next to it. The night air was crisp, and the clang of chisels and stone could still be heard from the sculptors’ pits a few hundred bio away. Ancient breathed out a heavy sigh as he shuffled in his bed, weary from the day. No sooner had he found a comfortable position than someone spoke from outside his tent. “Friend, allow me to enter,” the voice said. Ancient knew the voice well enough. “Come in, Carana,” he said, sitting up again on his bed. Carana opened the flap, quickly closing it again to contain what little heat the lamp had toiled to produce. “Good to see you in one piece. Heard there was a bit of a mishap at the pits today?” he asked of Ancient, sliding the belt aside and propping himself on the edge of the crate. Carana and Ancient had met many years ago. They quickly struck up a friendship and found themselves able to work around one another, keeping the other company during the longest of working shifts, though Carana had recently been transferred to a different line of work. Ancient valued his friend as a beacon of light in a realm where light was so often snuffed out. “Well, coming home in one piece was about all I was concerned about,” Ancient said, rubbing his eyes. “It’s not every day you find a nest of subterranean Nui-Kopen.” Carana raised his eyebrows a moment, then scoffed with a smirk. “And it’s not every day that you protect an entire working squad from monsters such as that!” he said. “Word travels quickly. You’ve accomplished something great today.” Ancient sighed. “What you say holds some truth, yet here we are,” he replied, motioning to the small room they were in. “We’re still in the same hole we’ve found ourselves in from the beginning.” “Oh that’s not quite true,” Carana said, a glint in his eye. “Your master gave you this lamp not too long ago! That’s quite an upgrade from some other dwellings not far from here.” Ancient managed a gruff snort. Carana did have a way of seeing the bright side of things. “Besides,” Carana continued, “it’s only a matter of time before this success of yours propels you even further up the chain.” “Until when?” Ancient replied. “There’s a top. That’s the problem. We can only go so far and then bang,” he slapped a raised palm with his other hand. “We stop. And you know those up top look down on us for nothing more than where we fit on this social ladder.” Ancient stood from his bed, his blue armor casting long shadows against the wall. He began to pace in small lines in the cramped tent. “No matter how hard we climb, they’ve cut the top rungs off. I’m growing tired of always being subclass. There’s got to be a way to get past that.” Carana remained seated on the crate, watching his friend. “I can’t see a way around it,” he said after a few moments. “We’re where we are, and this is the way it’s always been. Always will be. You’ve seen the higher ups. Who’s going to challenge them? Like you said yourself, it’s not every day you face a horde of Nui-Kopen.” He stood and placed a hand on his friend’s shoulder. “Let’s keep it that way. There’s no reason to stir up the island and break what we’ve worked so hard to create. We’re in this together.” Ancient turned again to his friend. “Yes, together in this pit.” Carana shook his head, a light laugh escaping his lips. “It’s not always easy, sure, and some days are rough. But we’re here. We have people around us. We have purpose and we can see the fruit of our labour. You’re a hero in the eyes of your comrades.” He raised a hand in front of himself, palm up. “Maybe we don’t have the bliss and luxury that others do, but do we need that?” He raised his other hand in the same fashion. “We’re also not as low as some others, so why risk falling back to the bottom, or worse, being exiled from the land completely?” Ancient knew his friend spoke to sooth and encourage, but he was not comforted. He was about to retort when another voice beyond the tent called to him. “Sculptor?” Ancient pulled open the flap. Just outside stood one of the royal guards. “You’ve been summoned to the fortress a week from today at the ninth hour.” It was a rare occurrence in Ancient’s line of work to be called to the fortress. “I will attend,” Ancient replied hesitantly. The royal guard bowed slightly, and turned away. Ancient turned back to Carana, who stood amused. “Well, maybe you’re getting that promotion you hoped for?” He patted Ancient on the shoulder. “I’m off tomorrow morning myself for an export check to Zakaz. Granted, I’d take a horde of Nui-Kopen over that place any day.” “Take care my friend,” Ancient said. “Better Zakaz than Karzahni.” Carana nodded in agreement, then he was off into the night. Ancient shut the flap, the room having lost some of its warmth from before. He bundled up in the bed roll again and tried to make the most of his sleep. The morning would come quick enough. * * * The corridors of the fortress were cold as Ancient was led to his master’s hall. The island empire was led by nine members of the highest social class on the island, who called themselves the Miraki. Each was powerful and charismatic, and devoted themselves to maintaining the order of the land. The oldest and wisest of the Miraki had summoned Ancient personally, and the rest of the Miraki looked to him for guidance. No wonder that’s the case, either, Ancient thought as he entered the grand hall where the Miraki stood waiting by windows the height of the room. His red-clad form reached over two bio. Specks of gold shimmered in his armor as he turned, drawing awe and wonder any time he made public appearances. He was old and it showed, but he hardly seemed worn or fatigued. Rather, his age brought a feeling of security and persistence to the realm, and especially to those under his direct control. Despite his hatred of the system, Ancient had to admit that the Miraki standing before him inspired allegiance and peace. It helped that the fortress was massive. The Miraki glanced over his shoulder when he heard the clang of the guards making way for Ancient to enter. He turned and beckoned Ancient. “Ah, here he is,” he said, a smile gracing his face. “The hero from the pits.” Ancient bowed at the doorway, and made his way across the lengthy room. The floor was polished stone, the walls of similar make. Guards were stationed at four other entrances on the sides of the room, and torches dotted the walls, filling the hall with warmth and light. The vaulted ceiling stretched high enough to allow a second floor to look down into the hall, a balcony on either side. The room itself was separated into three parts. The main floor, arguably the largest portion, contained the entrances and had many tables at the sides to display trophies or serve as dining areas. There was a set of stairs two thirds of the way into the room leading to a second floor a few feet above the first, which in turn led to another set of stairs that made a way to the top platform. Upon this platform was a carved throne, behind which were the huge windows where the Miraki stood. Ancient came to the bottom of the first stairs and stopped. Guards stood at either side. He glanced at one and the guard motioned for him to step up to the platform. Ancient ascended the first stairs and couldn’t help but recognize even here the social distinction between him and the Miraki. He then just as quickly realized his own physical separation from the guards on the main floor. Yet again, a demonstration of how this society thrived on its social order. Ancient swallowed his hatred of the system as his thoughts were cut by the voice of his master. “You saved countless lives yesterday,” he said, walking from the windows and taking a seat in his throne. “There could have been much more loss had you not intervened.” “I was simply looking out for the safety of those around me,” Ancient replied. “We still lost a dozen good men.” “Losses are expected,” the Miraki said. “That is the cycle. It is not our place to ask why. But for a sculptor to step in and risk his life for a handful of miners? That is unheard of.” Ancient shifted slightly on the spot. He wasn’t sure where this was going. “You know we rely on a social order to prevail in this world,” the Miraki said. “An order we dare not break, for it has been held for generations of our ancestors.” There it is again, thought Ancient. Always the code. Always the way it was, the way it has to be. I’m sick of this. But he held his expression so as not to reveal his thoughts. “I am sorry if I have disturbed the peace,” Ancient began. The Miraki held up a hand and Ancient held his tongue. “You have not done such a thing as that,” the Miraki said. “But, we have convened and chosen to send you across the island to the Visionary Fields. There you will be honoured among sculptors as the best of the island.” Ancient was confused. He saved his fellow workers, so he was being relocated? “You will be accompanied by a group of my guards, who will see you reach your destination by the end of the week.” A handful of guards came from one of the side entrances. “You have served well here, Sculptor – it’s time you set your sights on bigger things.” Ancient bowed again. “For the empire,” he mumbled out absently, knowing that to be the correct response to a direct order from a Miraki. The Miraki nodded, and the guards led Ancient back out of the hall and down to the road. There a carriage loaded with supplies was waiting, hooked up to a pair of Kikanalo. Ancient was ushered onto the carriage and soon was off for his newest assignment. * * * The carriage carried Ancient across mountain and valley, the Kikanalo moving at a steady pace. Ancient had not been beyond his area of the island, though the sights on the trip were not as astounding as he had hoped. The island was calm. Dull, yes, and sterile – but calm. For many years the winds and slogging ice flows had carved the landscape, jagged peaks rising high overhead and twisted crags splintering underneath. There wasn’t much in the way of vegetation, but closer to the coast, the smallest of pockets of lush greenery poked up through the cold stony slabs that made up the island. Toward the edge of the land the ice flows relented and melted into furious riverways and waterfalls, forming the idyllic façade that beckoned weary travelers to rest a moment and take in the sights. Here though, the whole land was grey. Cold, stony, foreboding. And here I thought the pits were bleak, Ancient thought to himself. The trip gave Ancient time to reflect, to consider his spot and what was to come. He knew the Visionary Fields were a dream for most sculptors – and he should be thrilled to have the honour to work among the best of the business. But the people of the island were very much the same as the island itself. Those who were green to the society saw opportunity, saw ideals, grasped for beauty in this foreboding place. Ancient, however, was not new to the order of things. He, like those who had spent millennia living on the island, knew better. Their own dreams of grandeur and progress slumped against the driving force of a strict upper social structure. Those in power saw fit to ensure that those below them understood there was no way to reach higher, no higher place to reach for anyways. How it was – that was simply how it would always be. It worked, for the most part, and the people of the land built their empire on the stable, unshaken ground of this understanding. One was wise to quickly recognize that where one was placed was where one stayed put. And that was exactly the problem. Ancient no longer had any intention of staying put. Granted, in one way he was no longer staying put – the Visionary Fields would be his new home. They were making good time and should have arrived at their destination ahead of schedule. Suddenly, one of the Kikanalo roared and slumped to the side, dragging the other Kikanalo off the path. The carriage stalled as the first beast fell, jostling the crew and supplies. Ancient hurried to hop off the cart to inspect the situation, as did the guards. One guard was standing by the felled beast, and as Ancient joined the group of guards surrounding the Kikanalo, the guard yanked a long, thin dagger from the Rahi’s neck. “We’re under attack!” shouted one of the guards. As the words escaped his lips, another dagger planted itself in his back, and he fell to the ground, motionless. The guards scrambled for their weapons, and Ancient threw himself under the carriage. Without warning, they were surrounded by a group of dangerous looking foes. And just like that, the guards entered combat. Blades and staves clashed against one another. Punches were thrown wildly between parties. The Kikanalo that was still alive struggled to pull away from the mayhem, and drew the cart away from Ancient. A body slammed up against the side of the carriage. Ancient, in response, grabbed the ankles of the being and dragged him down. The guard engaged with him quickly disposed of their enemy and breathed a sigh of relief. “Thanks,” the guard said as Ancient clambered to his feet. No sooner had Ancient stood than another dagger sailed through the air, narrowly missing both he and the guard. They turned to see a warrior in dark armor seemingly flying through the air, bouncing off the ground and rocky walls of the narrow pass where the carriage was stopped. Ancient felt both fear and awe at the gracefulness of the warrior, though he quickly snapped out of it when the warrior planted another dagger into the chest of another guard. Glancing down, he saw the weapon used by the recently incapacitated foe at his feet, and picked it up. It was unlike any weapon he had seen before, sleek and well balanced. It sat comfortably in his hand, braced against his forearm. Before he could consider its function, a flailing thief came running toward him, knife lifted above his head. Ancient instinctively pointed the weapon at the thief. A brief burst of light surrounded the weapon, and a blast of energy shot from its end, flying straight for the thief. Without warning the thief was struck by the ball of energy, and crumbled to the ground in a heap. He lay there, his knife lying next to him, unable to stand or move or much else. Ancient looked at the weapon and wondered just what sort of device it was. He didn’t have long to consider though, as another, bigger raider came around the cart and rammed Ancient. The raider, a Skakdi, so it seemed, slammed Ancient against the wall of the mountain passage. Ancient threw a punch straight at the Skakdi’s grinning face, and his grip loosened. Ancient tumbled to the ground and quickly grabbed his enemy by the spine, whipping him around and tossing him into an oncoming partner. Both fell with a clatter to the stony ground, and Ancient fired two more energy blasts at them from his weapon. Glancing around, he noticed that there were no other guards around him, nor raiders. It was relatively still. But he also didn’t see the dark warrior from earlier. Then a dagger landed in the ground on either side of him. He whirled around and glanced up to see the warrior sitting atop the path’s rocky walls, leg swinging over the edge precariously. “Not bad,” the warrior said. “If you’re done playing, let’s talk.” “Who are you?” Ancient asked. The warrior stood and jumped down to the ground. Ancient lifted his weapon up to the warrior. “Come now Sculptor. Let’s not be hasty.” Ancient backed up to the cart, and the warrior pulled the twin daggers from the ground. “I have an offer for you.” “How do you know me?” Ancient asked. His back now was up against the cart. The warrior sighed, clipping the daggers to her hip. “All these questions,” she said. “Too many, if you ask me. But, don’t. Look, we found out about you just after you did your thing with the Nui-Kopen a couple weeks back. Let’s just say I can use someone with your talent.” Ancient wasn’t sure what she meant. “I’m a sculptor,” he started. “I don’t think I’ll be much use to someone like you.” The warrior laughed. “I don’t need your sculpting talent,” she retorted. “You have more than just that pent up in that mind of yours. No, I heard about the way you took down the horde pretty much singlehandedly, and saved some miners while you were at it. Not a usual spectacle. Nui-Kopen aren’t exactly the smallest of bugs, either.” “I still don’t follow,” said Ancient. The warrior rolled her eyes. “Keep up, Sculptor,” she replied. “I want to hire you to deal with a problem I have.” “Hire me?” Ancient said incredulously. The warrior clapped. “There you go, up to speed. Yes, hire you. I’ll pay you if you get something done for me. I’ve already seen you break social code from your conduct at the miners’ pit. I don’t expect this to be too far of a stretch for someone who obviously has no regard for order.” Ancient considered the words of this warrior. Was it so obvious that he was tired of the way things were? All he had done was save some seemingly lesser workers, though Ancient valued them nonetheless. But it was true, he was frustrated with the system, and was even being sent away just for helping those who couldn’t help themselves. Maybe the warrior had a point. “What sort of job?” Ancient asked. The warrior smiled. “Thought you might agree. It’s a simple task, really. Here, I’ll show you.” The warrior beckoned Ancient to follow her, and turned back the way she and her raiding party had come. “Hey, don’t you want to wait for your friends to come to their senses?” Ancient replied. The warrior scoffed. “They fell here, so they stay here. Besides,” she said, turning back and winking at Ancient, “If you succeed in this job, I don’t think they’ll be of much importance to us anytime soon.” * * * This criminal must be crazy, Ancient thought, finding himself hiding behind a rocky wall just like this warrior and her band of raiders had when he was ambushed by them. She wasn’t much for talking, but she did give him the details of the job she had in mind for him. The warrior, who went by the title Lariska, had scouted a convoy earlier in the day and managed to track it again after encountering Ancient. Now the two of them waited to spring on the convoy and release the diplomat of his riches. “Here it comes,” she whispered. The convoy rolled passed the hiding spot. Lariska had figured that the middle carriage of the three would house the diplomat. She would take out the rear carriage while Ancient entered the second, leaving the first in darkness about the whole ordeal. “Alright, here goes,” she said as the second carriage passed. She dipped out just as the Kikanalo stomped by so as not to spook them. She dispatched the carriage driver in a matter of seconds, taking the reins without letting the Kikanalo miss a beat. The guards sitting on the rear of the carriage didn’t notice a thing. The diplomat’s carriage was something else to behold. If the Miraki had grand fortresses, the diplomats lived in fortresses of carriages. The thing was at least six bio long and three bio wide. It was pulled by four Kikanalo, boasting of the superiority and sheer size of the carriage. There was even a staircase on the back to exit from the main chamber and go to an upper floor. The exterior was ornate, a stark comparison to the landscape through which the carriage traveled. This is what our society lives for, Ancient thought bitterly. Miners die by Rahi and diplomats live in their cages. He came out of hiding as Lariska finished off the driver of the third carriage, and quickly caught up to the second. The rear Kikanalo didn’t seem to notice, thanks to her handling of them. Ancient shot two blasts at the guards on the back of the diplomat’s carriage, and they fell sideways in their seats, unmoving. I really need to know what this thing does, he thought. He grabbed hold of the bars next to the guards’ seats and hoisted himself into the carriage. Standing at the bottom of the stairs, he swung the door open and stepped into the lavish room. Padded cushions, golden walls, a startled diplomat dropping the tome he was reading. Ancient quickly pointed his weapon at the diplomat’s chest. “Scream, move, breathe, and you’re the next one to take a hit from this thing,” Ancient said. It wasn’t his best threat – but it was one of the first he’d ever uttered anyways. The diplomat swallowed hard. “Please don’t shoot,” the diplomat said, shaking. “I’ll pay you twice whatever you’re being paid.” Ancient stopped a moment to think. “How much will you offer?” Ancient asked. After all, he thought, if I’m only here because the pay was better than that sculpting gig… The diplomat motioned to a chest across the room. “I’m tasked with taking that to the docks for transit,” he said. “They won’t understand when they find out it’s been stolen, but they’ll be merciful. Please, just spare me.” Ancient had no qualms with this development. He glanced out the back window to see that the third carriage had pulled farther back. Ancient replied, “Fine. Now, sorry about this.” And with that, Ancient shot a blast at the diplomat, who slumped back on his seat. “Should wear off in a couple hours, don’t worry,” he said, and then picked up the chest. He opened the back door, jumped off the carriage, and saw the warrior do likewise. The third carriage caught up to the diplomat’s convoy and no one could tell there had been any altercation. “Clean job,” Lariska said. “I see you got a little extra, too. Let’s get moving before anyone else comes by this way.” She and Ancient scurried into the forest and hid amongst the trees. They waited a few minutes before turning to the chest. “My my, Sculptor,” Lariska said. “You have quite a knack already for getting far better than we expect!” She rifled through the chest, clinking gold and goblets of fine artistry together. Ancient stood off against a tree. Lariska turned to him. “Something wrong?” Ancient spoke. “Not long from now and the carriage with the diplomat should be arriving at the docks. They’ll find out I was the one to rob it. What happens now?” “Ah, you’ll be fine,” Lariska said without missing a beat. “Look at you, strong, bold, without a care. You’re armed with that launcher and I’ve see the way you wield it. Besides, even without it you aren’t one to be tried.” Ancient looked at the launcher. “How does this thing work anyways?” he asked her. “I took it off your friend back at the ambush.” She came over to him and took the weapon from his hands. “It’s a Rhotuka launcher,” she explained. “Artificial as opposed to some of the natural ones you find around the world on Rahi and the like. But just as good, if not better. You can modify these ones, and by the way it looks this one already works a lot faster than most. That’s unique.” She held the launcher in her hand. “Everyone uses a different energy to power the launcher. I haven’t seen energy like yours before. My teammate who used this before you would poison his targets. You seem to cause your targets to lose their balance, or something.” She tossed it back to Ancient. “What happens when you use the launcher?” Ancient asked. She shrugged. “I’m more of an up-close and personal kind of fighter. My daggers are my way, and I’ll keep it like that. But come on, we have a few more raids we can make before the sun goes down.” * * * Ancient and Lariska spent the next few days ambushing and raiding small caravans. Along the way, Ancient wondered how long it would be before he was targeted for his actions. But, at the same time, he had never felt so free. He thought back to his life before meeting Lariska – arguably only a short time ago, yet it felt already as though he had only just come to life. As a sculptor, Ancient had toiled long days, months, years under the eyes of his superiors. A working-class citizen, he was slated to remain in subpar conditions for the duration of his life. He was strong, and had been good at his work. All his superiors said he was among the best – why it had taken them so long to send him to the Visionary Fields, he didn’t know. But each of his masters would just as quickly remind him of his place, and that he would serve them well for the rest of his time – since that was all he would ever attain. For some time, Ancient had thought the same. The unending years, the work that always lay ahead of him, it all made him believe that they were right. There was much work to be done, and someone had to do it. Someone had to be in charge. There were rules and structure for a reason. He had been convinced that perhaps he really was cut out for this labour, and nothing more. But no matter how hard he worked or tried to prove his worth, they never really cared. And Ancient had grown bitter over time. Carana still saw the hope of a society built on order and rigid stability, but what good was the work if it was always to benefit someone else? He and his fellow workers still lived in dingy, overcrowded camps while his master lounged in decadent opulence. Was it worth supporting a society that would not support the likes of him, or those even further below him? Time had worn against Ancient’s resolve, his mind slowly turning against all that he had come to appreciate and work for. It was only a matter of time before something – or someone, like Lariska – gave him reason and opportunity to break free. Ancient snapped back to reality. Now, there was no one telling him what to do – other than Lariska, who taught him a couple of moves and some techniques of sneaking and stealthily executing missions. The first couple of hits were not at all as successful as the diplomat’s carriage. Ancient found himself at the receiving end of a few guards’ launchers and lances because of his novice appreciation of silent work. He was, after all, a sculptor by trade – and sculptors were not known for their silence. Lariska was Ancient’s foil. She was graceful, working from shadows, never entering a fray without knowing six ways to get out in one piece. She was a quiet being, though eager to work with Ancient and help him reach his full potential. By the end of their first week together, they had amassed a small pile of gold and other valuables. This pays better than anything I’ve done before, Ancient thought. Despite his slow uptake of stealth and swiftness, Ancient quickly became proficient with his launcher. He traded his belt of sculptor’s tools in for an assortment of daggers and short swords, just in case things got a bit personal. Lariska taught him how to parry and slice and a host of moves with the blade and he aimed to become as good with the blade as his companion. They were walking through a mountain pass about a month after his disappearance when Ancient’s training came to be tested. “Sculptor!” a voice cried out. Ancient looked ahead and saw three dark masses coming over a hill in the road. “We’ve finally found you.” Ancient looked to his partner, who just seemed amused by the sudden encounter. “And you are?” Ancient asked. “We’ve been sent by the Miraki,” one of the three said. “They’ve found out about your betrayal of the code and they seek to rectify the situation.” Ancient understood that this rectifying would spell out his demise. He placed a hand on his launcher. “I recognize that one,” Lariska hissed at Ancient, pointing to one of the beings. He was green and thin, but looked dangerously quick. “That’s Tenuhi, a bounty hunter from off-island. If the Miraki hired him to get you out of the picture…” She didn’t have to finish her thought. “I’ll tell you what,” Ancient shouted back. “You can walk away and live, or you can try to take us and see what happens.” The three laughed. “If that’s what you want,” one said, and ran down to meet Lariska and Ancient. Tenuhi stomped the ground and took off into the sky, flying, while the third blinked out of sight. That one reappeared a moment later in front of Ancient. A teleporter, Ancient thought for but a moment. Thankfully, Lariska had seen this sort of enemy before and was quick to deliver a blow to their foe. He stumbled backward, away from Ancient. She followed him to finish the job. Ancient looked up to see Tenuhi soar down from above, while the final being closed in. Ancient shot a few blasts from his launcher into the sky but missed as Tenuhi twirled around. “Try again, Sculptor!” he taunted. Ancient scowled and tossed a dagger toward the running being. He swatted it away with a shield and charged Ancient. Thankfully, this one was a touch slower, and Ancient managed to line up a shot with his launcher and fired. The shot was clean, and the being went down. Ancient glanced back up to the sky but didn’t see Tenuhi. Suddenly he was grabbed from behind and lifted off the ground. “Ever flown, Sculptor?” the greenish fighter asked mockingly. “Or have you always felt more at home on the rocks?” Tenuhi spun around in the air with Ancient dangling below him, while Ancient threw a punch at him. “Careful Sculptor,” he said. “Unless you want me to drop you!” There was a shift in the weight above Ancient and he looked up to see the third being collapsed on top of Tenuhi. He let out a screech as the trio tilted to the earth. Ancient quickly jabbed Tenuhi as they got close to the ground and he dropped him. Ancient rolled onto the ground while the two fighters crashed to the earth below. Lariska ran up a few moments later. “What happened?” Ancient asked. The warrior smiled. “Gave him a choice,” she said. “Either die, or teleport onto his friend over there. Was an easy choice, really.” The pair ran over to the fighters, who were laying on the ground near one another, obviously in pain. “You’re going to pay for what you’ve done, Sculptor,” said Tenuhi. “The Miraki won’t stop until you’re defeated.” Ancient was about to reply when a fizzle from Tenuhi’s boots caught his attention. Then it dawned on him. “These boots are what allow you to fly, aren’t they?” he said. He shot the two beings with a blast from his launcher, then went to work removing the boots. “They might come in handy for someone like me.” He slid them on, and they fit near perfectly. “Hmm, a bit of refitting and these will do nicely. Thanks for stopping by.” “You won’t make it long, Sculptor!” the teleporting fighter choked out. “They’ll send more after you any day now!” Ancient shrugged. “If they’re anything like you, I’ll be fine I’m sure,” he replied. Then he turned to his friend. “I think we’d best pay the Miraki a visit.” She raised an eyebrow. “Going straight for the heart of it, eh? Alright, this could be fun.” They ran off in the direction of the Miraki fortress. After these past few months, I’m going back home, Ancient thought. But… it’s not home anymore, after all. * * * It took a few days to arrive on the outskirts of the capital of the island, where Ancient had begun his journey. But as they climbed over the crest of the ridge surrounding the city, it was obvious that things had changed. Dark smoke billowed above the city, and fires were lit across the horizon. The fortress rose as a shard of blackened stone above a sea of blacker cloud. “This is… nice,” Lariska said sarcastically. “It wasn’t like this when I left,” Ancient replied. They noticed a figure moving toward them. As the figure got closer, Ancient stepped up and stopped them. The figure turned out to be one of his own, obviously shaken by encountering these two in the road. “It’s, it’s you, really, really you,” the being stammered. “You’re, you, you’re the, the one who started, you started all, all this.” “What are you talking about?” Ancient asked. “The whole island, it’s… it’s chaos,” the being let out. “We’ve heard about youre escapades and the way you dealt with the hunters who came fore you.” Carana was right when he said word travels fast, Ancient thought. “What’s happening down there?” Ancient said, motioning to the city. “It’s a factory down there, everywhere,” the being said. “It all happened so fast. As soon as word of your betrayal reached the ears of the people, they turned against the Miraki. The Miraki turned against one another too. Only the eldest remains here – the others have all squared off for dominance of the island.” Ancient couldn’t believe what he was hearing. In only a few short weeks, the island had crumbled into war. Maybe the social structure wasn’t as solid as they had thought. “Is the Miraki still in the fortress?” Ancient asked. The being nodded. “He commands the people as an army now,” he replied. “They turned from sculptors to soldiers overnight. It’s… it’s all too fast…” and with that, the being rushed off. “He sure was having a good day,” Lariska said to Ancient. “Come on,” he said. “We’re going to visit the Miraki.” * * * Ancient and Lariska quickly dispatched the guards at the fortress. The people of the city had cheered as Ancient entered, hailing him all the more as hero. Ancient couldn’t help but feel mixed over the outcome of his actions. He hadn’t wanted war, but if that’s what it took to overthrow the order… The Miraki stood in his throne room, gazing out over the people below as he had when Ancient came only a few weeks earlier. At the sound of his arrival the Miraki turned and scowled. “You have the audacity to enter my city, my fortress, after all that you have done?” He shouted. “You’re lucky to be alive at this point. The whole island wants you dead. The Miraki have turned against one another, and now we’re fighting our own. Is this what you wanted?” “I’m not here to have you shout me out,” Ancient replied coolly. “This isn’t what I wanted but if it’s what will free the people, I’m not going to apologize.” “Free the people,” the Miraki spat. “You’ve signed their death wish. There’s war out there, Sculptor, not freedom.” “Sometimes it takes a war to find freedom,” Lariska said boldly. The Miraki burned a glare at her. “You should know that this city is not the worst, either. The Miraki have halted communications but from what I’ve heard, they are setting up their own fortresses and domineering over the people under them. It’s not freedom,” the Miraki said, falling into his chair. “Worse yet, we’ve had our supply cut off from the iron mines north of here. That’s another Miraki’s territory now. And in the east, our fields have been ravished by yet another Miraki. Your actions will spell the death of us, Sculptor.” Ancient thought a moment. “What if I get the fields and the mines back?” The Miraki looked puzzled. “You insult me now by offering your assistance?” he fired back. “After all you’ve done?” “Either that or you can starve,” Ancient replied. The Miraki bit his tongue and thought. “Perhaps… no… you are a cruel being, Sculptor,” the Miraki said. “But I see no other choice. If you started this, maybe you can end it. Fine, I’ll take your offer.” “Oh, it’s not an offer,” Ancient said. “You’ll pay me to do it.” The Miraki rolled his eyes. “And you continue to fall down the ladder,” he said. “I’m not on any ladder, anymore. You need something, I can do it. Plain and simple.” The Miraki summoned a guard. “I’ll pay you this much now, and the same again once the task is completed,” the Miraki said. "Don’t come back until it’s done." “Pleasure doing business, Miraki,” Ancient said, and turned away. As he got to the door, he glanced back and remembered his manners: “For my empire.” * * * The next week was spent traveling to the western empire. The Miraki there had set up on the coast, well-guarded and defended by the rising rocky spires. At least, that was if you couldn’t fly. “You find a way in from the ground, and I’ll start at the top,” Ancient told his companion. She nodded and ran off. Ancient stomped the ground and took off to the top of the fortress, similar in fashion to his own home city’s fortress. He landed on a balcony and entered, winding down staircases to a room of obvious importance. Walking in, he found the Miraki, a pale yellow member of their species with silvery armor. The Miraki looked up from his table and stood in shock. “How did you… guards!” The Miraki called out. Ancient sent a shot of energy at the four guards who entered the room first, and they fell to the ground motionless. The rest halted their approach. “Greetings,” Ancient said. “Here to make a deal.” “Why would I make a deal with you, traitor?” the Miraki exclaimed. “You’ve ruined our society. There’s no use for you here.” “Allow me to let you in on my purpose here,” Ancient said calmly. “The Miraki of the west sent me to find a way to get access to the fields you now control. Now, I’m a reasonable person, so I’m willing to strike a deal with you. But, I’m also willing to crush you and your cronies into the ground and just hand the fields over to the Miraki. It’s up to you.” The yellow Miraki frowned and furrowed his brow, considering the options, one of which was not favourable. “Alright, we’ll make a deal. I’m in need of supplies to defend my southern border against Rahi attacks. It seems that by upsetting our order you also threw all of the island itself into chaos. Your Miraki fashions good weapons. If you give us access to weaponry, which we will pledge not to use against your people, we will share the fields’ produce with your people.” Ancient nodded. “That sounds almost reasonable. The only problem, I’m going to need to be convinced myself.” The Miraki looked puzzled. “I’m giving your people food, what more do you want?” Ancient rubbed his thumb and fingers together in the air. “They aren’t my people anymore than they are your people. All I want is to be paid for securing the deal. How much will you offer to protect your people?” The Miraki shook his head. “Take our food, take our finance… you’ve really turned yourself into something different, Sculptor. We’ll pay.” The Miraki opened a chest on the shelves next to his desk and pulled out a fair-sized bag. He placed it on the desk, and Ancient scooped it up, opened it, and nodded. “This will do. Do call if you need something else,” Ancient said merrily. The Miraki scoffed. Lariska entered the room at that moment and saw the scene before her. “Taking all the fun, eh Sculptor?” she said. He turned and walked out with her, careful to step over the wake of bodies she left behind. * * * Over the course of the next few months, Ancient saw his business of making deals and settling disputes rise in popularity among the people of the island. Not long after the break of the skirmishes, the Miraki declared all out war against one another. Citizens were being targeted at random in crowds, towns were being bombarded by Rahi, supply networks were cut and broken as trades were interrupted between empires. And Ancient’s influence grew all the more. The Miraki did not deal directly with Ancient, but sent envoys to him to request his help. True to his new life, he was quick to take up an offer, and even quicker to change sides if a better offer arose. Lariska often worked separately from him, and a few others joined their band of mercenaries. Ancient’s business was doing well. The most recent development in the war – Ancient had been summoned by the Miraki of the east to assassinate the Miraki of the north. I wish they’d just drop their stupid titles and go by their real names, Ancient thought to himself. All this Miraki stuff is long over. He was promised a good sum of gold for his actions. Ancient knew that if he went through with this plan, there would be no going back. And he also knew that if one Miraki fell, the fragile remnants of order would be thrown away, resulting in power struggles even he might not be able to control. Still, money was money, and worst come to worst there were other islands to visit and rule. Ancient slammed a guard against the wall of the keep, knocking him out. Another guard charged him with a lance, but Ancient’s Rhotuka struck him with ease, felling him instantly. This Miraki was clever and installed a few architectural challenges which proved difficult for Ancient, though. First there was a room in which the floor would fall away into a lava pit if the wrong path was chosen. Then, there was a room of Muaka, who had not been fed for some time. After that Ancient encountered a room of levers, only one of which would open the door – the rest would fill the room with poisonous gas. That one wasn’t too hard to figure out though – Ancient simply smashed down the door. He arrived in the Miraki’s personal chambers, and found the bronze Miraki brandishing a sword. “You’re a disappointment to our species, Sculptor,” The Miraki barked. Ancient sighed, exasperated. “Why does everyone… I’m not a sculptor anymore,” he said. “And I’m just doing my job.” “Your job?” the Miraki exclaimed. “If you had done your job, we’d have a couple more nice statues outside. But no, you thought you could ‘free the people,’ and ‘everything would be better’ and ‘there would be no need for Miraki.’” Ancient knew the being in front of him was mocking him, but he held his temper. “I’ve been sent to kill you, collect a bounty, and go,” Ancient said. “That’s what I’m here to do. So if you’ll just die quickly, I’ll be on my way.” “No!” the Miraki shouted. “I’m not going down today!” With that he thrust his sword swiftly at Ancient. The sword reflected off Ancient’s new golden armor, which protected his body from most attacks. The Miraki stumbled in front of Ancient, dropping his sword. “How… who can stand before you?” Ancient grinned. “Make me an offer,” he replied. “Money speaks volumes louder than words.” The Miraki looked around the room. “I have… I have… If you spare me, I can…” Ancient allowed him to try to come up with something. “Time’s wasting, Miraki,” he said. “You have ten seconds to come up with an offer.” The Miraki stood and frantically shifted through his shelves to find something of value, some treasure to offer, anything less valuable than his own life. He could not. Ancient sighed. “Sorry Miraki, it’s only business.” He shot the Miraki in the back, rendering him still. “It’s unfortunate that the other Miraki asked for you to be brought back and executed in front of him. I’d much rather take care of you myself right now.” He slung the Miraki over his shoulder and stepped to the balcony. “It’s a good thing you can’t move.” He stomped the ground and jumped over the ledge. The Miraki screamed on the way down, not realizing Ancient’s controlled descent. Landing on the ground effortlessly, Ancient tossed the Miraki in the back of his cart and began the trek back to receive his pay. * * *
  8. My unfortunate victim this year was Kanohi Ko-llector, who wanted a story with action, mystery, Dark Hunters, the Guys, and other underused characters. Unfortunately you've only got this. Hope you enjoy friend, and Happy New Year! ------- “Amphibax!” Before the order was even given, Amphibax had abandoned his spar and taken to the hallways of the Odina Fortress. It was unwise to keep the Shadowed One waiting. He could only hope his master’s thoughts would be kind to him and arrange the labyrinthian hallways to speed his arrival. Whatever the case, he quickly found himself before the throne and dropped to a kneel almost before coming to a stop. “Your orders, sir?” he hissed. The Shadowed One gazed down on him with a discomforting smile. “Amphibax, how kind of you to join us.” For the first time, the Hunter noticed the two other beings present. Both were short like Matoran, but that was where the similarities ended. Their arms stretched far beneath their wide shoulders, almost dragging around their stubby feet tipped with vicious black claws. The one kneeling at his right was red and orange, with a long, sneering face that resembled a Skakdi skull. The one at his right, grey with red arms and a naked face. Amphibax made his observations within seconds, not daring to take his eyes from his master for longer, but he still wasn’t quick enough to avoid a smirk from the right. The Shadowed One loomed over him, pausing for the precise amount of time it would take Amphibax’s sharp mind to piece everything together. “Before you are two new recruits, Urhan and Anla. You are to prove them. Is that a problem?” Amphibax knew better than to grumble. It was a necessary task that all participated in, however there were few that enjoyed training the rookies. “No sir. It would be my… privilege to accompany them.” The Shadowed One leaned back in his chair looking satisfied. He tapped a crystal overhanging his throne, the cue for the spindly Recorder to come stumbling from behind its desk with a tablet which The Shadowed One took. “I have chosen you for a reason, Amphibax. Your… abilities may be useful in ensuring the mission is completed. You know what happens if it is not.” He went on without pause, holding out the tablet to Amphibax. “A weapon shipment just left Xia bound for Destral. It would be a shame if the cargo were to never arrive.” Amphibax nodded. “And, these two?” The Shadowed One waved him off. “You will have time to become acquainted, but that ship will not wait.” The Hunter nodded again, quickly rising and turning back into the fortress. The grinning one followed as his heels, while his companion took a moment to realize they had been left behind. Amphibax didn’t make it easy for them to catch him with their short legs. However, he did stay close enough to catch the jeers the other Hunters sent their way. Apparently these two recruits had a reputation. That seemed pivotal to the mission, whether beneficial or ominous Amphibax couldn’t tell. “Oh no, where is our hero to stop Bad Guy?” called a Skakdi Amphibax knew only as Sting. The toothy one snarled at her, and she gave her own smug grin back until she caught sight of the other one. “Oh, there he is, behind as always. So much for Good Guys always win.” Fortunately neither stopped for long to answer her proddings. Amphibax wouldn’t have appreciated the delay for what had become a form of greeting among many Hunters. As they worked to get the boat ready to sail, the silence broke into friendly banter between the recruits. Amphibax saw little value in it and his thoughts turned to the mission. The Brotherhood wouldn’t allow their shipment to be taken aboard any Xian ship, so one of their own. They often followed a particular schematic. Amphibax already knew where the cargo hold would be located, and several entry points. The most useful would be… “Quiet type then?” Amphibax looked up into Urlan’s Skakdi grin. “Quiet keeps me alive. And you, if we’re lucky.” Urlan leaned up against the side of the boat. “Relax, all we need to do is break in, steal some slag, and get out.” “Weren’t you listening? This is a Brotherhood of Makuta ship. A floating fortress with guards and security measures at every turn. Getting in and getting out will be far from easy. Unless… you happen to be holding out on me.” If possible, Urlan’s grin widened. “Well, I’d never! I only thought you’d never ask! Anla?” His red and grey companion was significantly quieter than he was, simply sitting back against the side with a haughty look, but at the mention of his name he straightened and pulled a two-pronged weapon from his back. “Urlan knows well of my abilities, and as much as I would like to demonstrate, for the sake of our ship I will content myself with a simple description. This is an Echo Fork, of which the merest tap on any surface will produce enormous shock waves.” Amphibax nodded. He had heard of such devices. So much for sneaking aboard. “And you?” Urlan twirled a pair of orange claws in his hands and with a sudden motion raised one toward the sky and charged a purple bolt. Amphibax’s whip snapped around his wrist and pulled it downward, redirecting the bolt into the water where it disappeared with a fizz. Urlan rubbed his wrist and grinned, but he found it much less funny as Amphibax pounced atop him and snarled. “Are you trying to give away our position?!” “Relax, it was just…” he suddenly found Amphibax’s claw clamped around his toothy maw. Urlan grumbled and tried to pull him off, but Amphibax was firm as his eyes searched the horizon. Anla turned, and after a moment Urlan picked himself up quietly. There was a dark shape in the distance belching smoke. The Brotherhood ship. Quickly, Amphibax forced the others low again. “No more mistakes,” he whispered. “One more thing,” Urlan said with a sneer. “What is it?” “Call me Bad Guy.” Amphibax stared at him. “Bad Guy?” Anla looked down at his friend. “A nickname the Hunters call him. He seems to have mistaken it for a codename.” “Bad Guy is a great codename!” Amphibax looked questioningly at Anla. “Bad Guy. And that makes you…” He sighed. “Yes, Good Guy.” ------- After making the necessary preparations, Amphibax led the recruits over the side of the boat. He entered the water with hardly a ripple, while they were decidedly less graceful. Hopefully they were still far enough out to escape notice on their approach. The side of the ship loomed large and dark over them before long. Amphibax scanned its defenses like a crocodile watching its prey while the others drifted just below the surface with their rebreathers. He soon rejoined them and signaled to “Bad Guy.” The toothy being nodded and surfaced before carefully charging his claws and punching a hole about a bio over the waterline, and the three clambered in. Their eyes were the only light in the dim corridor they found themselves in. That is, until a searing glob of plasma flew past “Good Guy’s” face and burned a hole in the wall behind. Amphibax looked up to see three Rahkshi glaring at them from the end of the hall, and one of their staffs was still glowing hot. “Run,” Amphibax said softly before shoving the two behind him and following quickly. He shepherded them around bolts of plasma, disintegration, and sound, slashing his twin blades at anything that got too close. Up ahead, six more narrow orange eyes burned from the darkness. Amphibax quickly took stock of their location before opening a door and shoving the two inside. “Go!” “What is this place?” Bad Guy asked as he tried to pick out the details with what little light his eyes provided. Everyone blinked as Amphibax pulled out a lightstone to reveal, “A supply closet. Now we have a bigger problem. Rahkshi will be swarming that door and we have no other way out. The cargo hold is on the other end of the ship.” “I could blow the door and all the Rahkshi off the side of the ship,” Good Guy announced, raising his Echo Fork before it was caught by his companion. “In this small space, we’d be liquified before those hinges burst,” he grinned grimly. “Perhaps a little more finesse is required, my friend. Say, what might we find on the other side of this wall?” Amphibax had been watching silently. It was their time to come up with the plan. But he did offer, “Crew’s Quarters. We’d likely find much worse than Rahkshi in there.” Bad Guy jumped as the door vibrated, the room growing hotter as a glowing orange began spreading from the handle. “We’re running out of options!” he said nervously. Good Guy quickly snatched his claw and aimed it at the wall before firing. Amphibax pushed the others aside to enter the newly created hole first. Bad Guy then Good Guy followed, and Amphibax quickly led them to the door. Good Guy stopped as he realized just what was in the room. Matoran, at least twenty of them crammed into tight bunks along the walls. Their expressions ranged from shocked to absent; some of them didn’t even seem to notice the Hunters there. “Who are they…” he asked quietly. “Prisoners of war,” Amphibax replied quickly, “And not our problem. Come on, before the Rahkshi catch up.” Good Guy ran after without taking his eyes off the miserable sight. They had nearly reached the door at the end of the hall, passing more rooms filled with countless, soulless Matoran when something new emerged from a door just behind them. He was a Toa in form, but his body was jet black and covered in dark, almost corroded armor. His red eyes quickly fixed on the intruders. “Who are you?” He rasped, drawing a staff and shield. Amphibax pushed the others toward the door and stood before them, staring down the Shadow Toa. “Go,” he hissed at them. When the recruits didn’t move, he turned and roared, “Go!” The two ran through the door, looking back to see Amphibax catch the Toa’s staff in his blades before he disappeared from view. They didn’t stop running until the sounds of combat faded into the distance. “What do we do now?” Good Guy panted. “We finish the mission,” Bad Guy responded firmly. “Amphibax said the cargo hold was on this end of the ship, didn’t he?” “Yeah, but how are we supposed to find it? He had the map!” “We’ll find it.” Bad Guy leads the way down the hall, watching for Rahkshi, but it seemed most of this floor had followed them to the supply closet. Still they rushed through the hall, not wanting to press their luck. It took some time to find the right door, time that they would have thought the Rahkshi would have used to catch up. But there it was, the Matoran symbols spelling out “Cargo Hold” above a large round door. Good Guy took one last survey of the hall while Bad Guy rushed straight to the button. The door split into eight sections and spiralled open like an aperture, revealing the darkest area of the ship yet. Bad Guy walked right in despite the dark, while Good Guy hesitated a moment before following. They felt more than saw their way through the maze of crates while ominous rattling and cracks sounded in the darkness. “How are we supposed to know which one has the weapons?” As it turned out, the crate revealed itself after a time. A solitary lightstone laying on the floor shone its light on a crate where “Xian Forges” was written. Bad Guy quickly cracked it open to reveal… nothing. “I knew it was too good to be true,” Bad Guy snarled as he turned and flopped back against the side. “We can’t go back without it,” Good Guy sighed. “We’ll have to keep looking.” “That won’t be necessary,” said a new voice from behind them. The recruits started and spun around, casting the light on Amphibax, who was holding out six silver cylinders etched with vents and a black grip. “We thought you were dead!” Bad Guy snapped before Amphibax could tell him to be quiet. “How did you get here first?” Amphibax shrugged, “All Toa are the same. That isn’t the first one I’ve killed. But, considering you made your way here anyway, I believe we can tell The Shadowed One you succeeded.” “That means we’re in!” Bad Guy said, a little quieter. “Not yet. We still need to get past an army of Rahkshi and off this ship. So perhaps we should find out what these weapons do…” ------- Each of the Hunters took two of the cylinders and made their way out of the cargo hold on the other side of the ship, returning to the hole they had already created. Along the way, the recruits marveled at the Rahkshi shells strewn around the halls. Amphibax hardly seemed to notice. “Did you kill all of them?” Bad Guy asked. “We can’t have them alerting the rest of the ship,” he replied casually. But it seemed he was too late. Before they had reached the hole, Amphibax stopped them as a hiss spread through the air. At the end of the hall was a platoon of Rahkshi with staffs pointed toward them. At the head was another Toa, this one female with a black Avsa. “Kill the thieves,” she commanded, and the Rahkshi swarmed around them toward the Hunters. Bad Guy leapt in front, holding one cylinder out, a strange lens pointed toward the horde. “I’ve got this,” and with that he pushed the red button along the side, and a red beam of light raced out toward them… before stopping a bio from the cylinder. Bad Guy pulled it back, looking at the glowing blade in confusion. It was then that one of the forward Rahkshi’s eyes began to glow, and two lasers blasted toward them. Bad Guy flinched, somehow putting the blade between him and the lasers. The reflected and sheared off the arm of the Rahkshi just to the right of the attacker. Bad Guy’s Skakdi grin returned, and he charged in, pulling out his second cylinder which created a short beam of orange light. Chain Lightning and Heat Vision were ineffective as he tore into the front few Rahkshi. As it turned out, protosteel wasn’t a match for it either. Good Guy and Amphibax just looked at each other for a moment. Then Amphibax wielded one of the lightblades in his claw while Good Guy pulled out one of his own. Instead of diving for the attackers like Amphibax, he turned to the wall and started carving a new exit. Bad Guy traded blows with Rahkshi left and right, making good use of the double blades. Patches of scorched and crumpled armor covered him from grin to claws, but a manic glee glowed in his eyes as he fought through the pain. Amphibax found himself engaged with the Toa, though she managed to fend off the lightblade with one conjured from shadow. Light broke through the darkness of the halls with every swift parry. He slashed at her legs with his whip, earning a moment to strike that was just as quickly stolen away as a Rahkshi pounced on his back. “Everyone get down!” Good Guy called, and Hunters and Toa alike turned to see him holding Echo Fork high and made to get out of the way. Amphibax snatched up Bad Guy and darted toward him. The Shadow Toa tried to follow, but found herself falling back into a pile of Rahkshi as Amphibax’s whip snagged her ankle. Good Guy waited a few seconds for his allies to get clear before smashing the fork to the ground, sending a deafening wave of sound down the hall. The Toa and remaining Rahkshi were blown back into the shadows, and before they could recover the Hunters were out into the ocean and returning to their own boat. Rahkshi emerged from the Brotherhood ship, but their aerial search was no match for Amphibax’s finesse underwater. No one said a word until the ship had disappeared far into the distance. And uncharacteristically, it was Amphibax that broke the silence. “Good Guy, Bad Guy, welcome to the Dark Hunters.”
  9. ~Chapter one~ The Dark Hunter's foot hit the pebble beach with a crack, as the pebbles he stood on were partially crushed by the strength of his step, in his hands he spun around a staff, in ways typically of a swift warrior. However this Hunter was no swift warrior, he was a large brute, whose destiny had been torn away, once a Toa hero, he had been captured by Visorak spiders and mutated by Hordika venom into the huge beast he was now, previously Savage, as he had been named, was prone to sudden rages of anger as a result of the venom's effect on his mind, but using the staff to saty calm was but one of many ways in which he now controlled the anger within him. He continued his stroll along the pebble beach, the light waves gently crashing onto the shore, swiping the staff diagnally in different directions, he splashed the water into momentary pieces of art, he looked out onto the horizon and then back onto the coastline of Odina. Odina was the home of the Dark Hunters and organisation in which he served, each member taking on tasks for payment, some tasks were simple, while others where near suicidal. His entry to the organisation was a result of the efforts of the group's Leader who had convinced him that his former Toa team had been jealous and had let him be captured by Visorak, welcoming him into the Dark Hunters with open arms, now that he had calming methods, he had a Toa mindset once more and thought it likely that the Leader had lied. Still, he thought, the past had happened, he was a Dark Hunter now and he couldn't change that if he tried, the organisations attitude towards those who quit, where less than desirable. Finally he had reached the cave in the cliffs in which he had been asked to attend a mission briefing, taking one final look back, he entered.
  10. It's been over a year since the last topic, and I've learned my lessons, but this is just an idea I don't want to give up. And since the polls (and S&T in general) have slowed down, I submit this new list for potential canonization. I'll ask for your opinions and corrections, post my rebuttals, and make any necessary modifications. But please read the FAQs before you go off on how Brutaka and Hydraxon shouldn't be Steltans... To recap, BS01's Unnamed Species List has a ridiculous number of sapient species in the MU. Many of them were first mentioned in the bios of the Barraki, OoMN, and DH and simply waved off as their own unique species. But as we look closer, there are many characters with similar physical traits, powers, or histories. Many of the inconsistencies are easily explained by mutations or technology, or simply interspecies variations. Just as Matoran and Skakdi have elemental subspecies, many of these other species could be divided up in new ways. For example: Canon 1. Makuta Prototypes Darkness Eliminator Shadow Stealer This species was prototyped in Protodermis by the Great Beings to fill the role of peacekeepers and creators of the Rahi. Different powers were tested and refined until Mata Nui perfected their design and created them in Antidermis. These were given 42 Kraata powers, Shadow, Kaita Dissolution, and the ability to wear Kanohi. 2. Matoran Subspecies Toa Turaga The main inhabitants of the Matoran Universe, built to maintain Mata Nui's inner workings. Each Matoran possesses an elemental affiliation that is manifested as elemental control should they become a Toa or Turaga. They also have the ability to use Kanohi. 3. Skakdi Inhabitants of Zakaz, initially peaceful and powerless until Makuta Spiriah's modifications, from which they gained elemental powers when used with another Skakdi, vision powers, and other abilities, as well as an unquenchable thirst for violence. This species is known for their claws, wide grins, and long spines. 4. Steltan Subspecies Upper Class Brutaka Hydraxon Sidorak Voporak The Steltan Upper Class are tall and vaguely Toa-like. Though they can wear Kanohi, they do not depend on their use as the Matoran do. Even among the upper class of the Steltan society, their members are divided into ranks. Platinum armor is reserved for rulers while gold is a typical middle-class color. Hydraxon was created as the template for this species and future generations were modeled on him after he joined the Hand of Artahka. This species is resistant to Pit Mutagen and grow far more powerful when exposed to Antidermis, a trait that becomes noticable only in large quantities. Servant Krekka The Servants of Stelt, otherwise known as "Bruisers," are large and powerful beings, but their lack of intelligence keeps them from dominating the upper class. They are commonly used as workers or body guards. They are unable to use Kanohi. Slave Gladiator The Slaves of Stelt are even larger and more powerful than the Servants, and their speed and agility is unmatched by the others, but many are somehow forced into fighting for entertainment. 5. Vortixx Roodaka Conjurer Tracker The inventive and intelligent inhabitants of Xia. They are typically tall and armored in black. Their society is dominated by the women with little opportunity for men. Conjurer stole their advanced technology and set out for a life of his own and became a ruler of a small group of Matoran. They are able to wear Kanohi. Subspecies Johmak A subspecies of the Vortixx with the ability to shatter their bodies into crystal and reform at will. 6. Zyglak An amphibious species with a hatred for Matoran. Their scaly skin is coated with an organic Protodermis destroying disease. They are immune to Pit Mutagen and virtually invulnerable to elemental attacks. Barraki 7. Carapar Axonn Carapar's race was one of the first created in the Matoran Universe, as implied by Axonn's status as an ex-Hand of Artahka member. This species inhabited the Southern Isles and were dominated by warlords such as Axonn and Carapar, the latter of whom was called to be a Barraki. This species is generally large and powerful and have the ability to use Kanohi. 8. Ehlek In appearance, this species closely resembles Ehlek's mutated form. They are unable to breathe air and are thus most members are confined to the oceans around Zakaz. Each member has been modified by the OoMN, giving them great strength and powerful claws to kill Makuta. They are also able to wear Kanohi. Subspecies Amphibax The amphibious brethren of Ehlek's race with great agility both on land and in the sea. Also possess enhanced vision. These species are known to work closely together, even to the point of Amphibax leading other members of Ehlek's species. 9. Kalmah An ancient race inhabiting the bleak, icy land just south of Odina. The inhabitants are split into tribes led by warlords. Ancient's services once turned each tribe against one another in a great civil war that is rekindled every few thousand years. After the first war came to a close, the Shadowed One and Ancient left their island to capture the neighboring Odina after the first civil war. They will never mention their true origins, and they have been forgotten by their people, but the Dark Hunters always welcome newcomers from this island. This species is equipped with natural weapons such as claws, teeth, tusks, and often bladed tails in addition to powerful abilities unique to each tribe. Though they have the ability to wear Kanohi masks, their long, sheild-like faces with two protruding tusks make it difficult and uncomfortable, and thus few do. Tribes Fire/Heat Kalmah Tyrant Lurker Kalmah was selected to be a Barraki after his great successes as a leader of this tribe. He was eventually replaced by Tyrant, who left his position during the Toa/Dark Hunter War to become a Dark Hunter. At once point, Lurker killed a member of his tribe and was banished. This tribe inherits the ability to absorb and expel heat in great quantities, though Lurker prefers his natural tools, and Kalmah lost this ability when he was mutated. Their armor is typically a vibrant red. Earth/Stone Ancient Guardian After Ancient's departure, this tribe was betrayed by one of their own, and Guardian is the sole survivor. This tribe has the ability to make their armor as hard as stone and highly resistant to physical attacks. Their armor is typically blue with metallic coverings. Void The Shadowed One It is unknown if others remain after The Shadowed One left them. They possessed powerful eyebeams that were able to disintegrate a target. Their armor is typically black. 10. Mantax Trinuma This tall species is known for the large horns protruding from the back of their heads, though these became tentacles when Mantax was mutated. They also are able to wear Kanohi. 11. Pridak Tobduk The original inhabitants of Visorak. Pridak was taken to be a Barraki long before most of the rest of his civilization was destroyed by the Visorak. This species is generally tall and powerful and typically has the ability to feed on emotion to grow stronger. While Tobduk feasts on anger, Pridak's emotion may have been pride. They are able to wear Kanohi. 12. Takadox A species with the abilities to hypnotize others and wear Kanohi. Other 13. Botar Botar's Replacement Another race hailing from the Southern Isles, known to be "savage," perhaps meaning more primitive or superstitious than the rest of the universe. This species towers over most others and has the ability to teleport and use Kanohi. 14. Krahka Triglax A sentient species misclassified as a Rahi due to their shapeshifting habits, though they can also take the forms of other sentient beings. Some are able to copy inherent powers of the forms they take, or merge forms together. Very few remain after near devastation by the Visorak, many of whom remain in hiding or serving under more powerful beings who can protect them. 15. Mimic A species from a distant land that was destroyed in a natural disaster. At least some members of this species possess photographic reflexes. 16. Nocturn Sentrakh Four-armed OoMN member A four-armed and powerful species with the ability to regrow lost limbs. They are immune to Pit Mutagen. Their home island was destroyed by Nocturn with few survivors. Sentrakh was taken before or after and heavily modified by The Shadowed One. 17. Nynrans Dweller Vanisher Vengeance This is one of the few MU species to grow as they age, ranging from just below Toa height to towering titans. Their common traits include long, thin wings and horns atop their heads used to channel their psionic subpowers unique to each individual. They originally hailed from Nynrah and are still known to craft there, though members of their species proven to be too violent/not inventive enough were outcast. 18. Odins Lariska The original inhabitants of Odina. Lariska is the only known survivor after she betrayed the rest of her people to the Dark Hunters. 19. Primal Seeker These two are the last survivors of a four-legged race whose island was ravaged by Visorak, and afterwards all but Primal were killed by The Shadowed One. Seeker was recruited as a servant of the Brotherhood of Makuta and escaped the destruction. They are known to be agile and strong. To be reclassified as Rahi Airwatcher Airwatchers' backstory seems to imply he is one of the last of his kind. Perhaps the others were hunted to extinction or killed themselves off due to their own dim-wittedness. Airwatcher possesses wings and a chest launcher, the latter may have been the result of Dark Hunter modification. Poison A species nearly wiped out by Matoran as they were mistaken for unintelligent Rahi. Their poison, which is ejected from their mouths, paralyzes the victim and is lethal within half an hour, though they are not immune. They also possess stunning tails. FAQs 1. Why are Brutaka and Hydraxon classified as Steltans?! In the original topic, Akavakaku proposed a theory that Hydraxon, Axonn, and other members of the Hand were created about the same time as Toa Helryx and later used as templates for the rest of their species. Hydraxon likely never lived on Stelt. Brutaka's backstory mentions he was a "prominent figure" of his society before he was recruited by the Brotherhood and likely spent little time on Stelt as well. Brutaka was also known to have gained a large amount of power after being submerged in Antidermis. Though several members of this classification were known to fight Makuta, they were likely exposed to only trace amounts of Antidermis and the effects were less noticeable. But perhaps in early years the Steltans used this ability to gain dominance over the much stronger Servant and Slave classes. 2. But why can't Hydraxon be put with Axonn and Carapar?! My original list had this pairing, but so many people denied it, saying Hydraxon and Axonn have very few physical characteristics in common and felt like the only excuse was their similar names. So they're separated now. 3. But why can't Hydraxon be put with Trinuma and Mantax?! I really, really don't want to get into this debate again. Simply put, Trinuma's species is confirmed to have large and prominent horns, and these are noticeably lacking on Hydraxon. I see no reason to make allowances to dismiss Hydraxon from this canon detail when he could easily be a Steltan. 4. But not all of "Kalmah's race" have tails! Admittedly, this is pretty much the only obstacle with that huge leap that merged several species into an interesting race. Canonically, they all come from a land ruled by warlords and locked in a civil war. Physically, most of them have claws, tusks, digitigrade legs, and some manner of tail. However, Guardian is noticeably lacking this last trait. It could be he lost his tail in the wars or as a result of Dark Hunter modification. Maybe not all members of this species have tails. Whatever it is, these characters fit too well together in my mind to ignore for one tiny detail. 5. Why does Dweller's species have to live on Nynrah? Because honestly he's the only one that fits. Many of these characters are described to be the last of their species or their island destroyed or in war... Dweller (and the others categorized under him) has very little backstory and what little there is seems close enough to the known inhabitants of Nynrah. 6. Wait, Greg said Krahka was a Rahi and Triglax wasn't! Why are they sapient species when Airwatcher and Poison are not? We still have intelligent Rahi like Keetongu! "Rahi" is a very relative term in Matoran. It literally means "Not Us." There is no clear line between sapient species and Rahi with the exceptions like Airwatcher and Keetongu. This puzzled me and I asked this question in my What is a "Rahi?" topic. Basically the consensus was that it was entirely Matoran-defined. They see a creature and classify it based on its behavior. Krahka commonly shapeshifts into Rahi, while Triglax mimics other sapient beings, so it would be easy to see how a Matoran might mistake Krahka for a Rahi. 7. Where does Jerbraz fit into all of this? Given how little we know about Jerbraz's appearance before he turned invisible, it isn't really reasonable for me to try to figure out which one of these species he fits into. I'll leave that to another topic.
  11. The Water Among Rock "You really did put up a fight back there. I really do hope I can see you again, but I suppose you did it for countless others. You always seemed so special, from what I've heard from this small elder who calls herself Nokama." muttered Kiina. Kiina was in a large, decorated chamber, and it was filled with other Matoran, Toa, Turaga, Glatorian and Agori who came to mourn this one's leave. Most of the people mourning were gazing at the Ignika, and were sad that Mata Nui had left them, whilst some others were reading the tall, vast walls of writing that told Mata Nui's story. "I guess I'll see you soon." said Kiina. This chamber was surrounded by what was known as a Kini-Nui in the Matoran Universe, as many Agori and Matoran had gathered around the circles outside the sacred chamber. The location itself was a vast mix of many elements. Waterfalls and lakes pooled around flourishing jungles, large spikes of protodermis jutted out of mountains, and small hills of stone were scattered around a vast desert. Kiina had taken the path to Tajun, her home village before Mata Nui's life completion, but Tajun was still a functioning village. Only now they had a few more residents. Kiina had parked her Thornatus outside the chamber, and rode off to Tajun to accept any errands the elders might need help with. As she drove to her faraway village, she observed the changes that the planet of Spherus Magna had seen in the past five years. Somewhere in the rocky desert, a massive field of metal was deemed the Rahkshi Field, as hundreds of thousands of empty Rahkshi shells were spread across the dunes from when Tahu made quick work of the Makuta's sons. The Sea of Liquid Sand was no longer liquid, but was rather the main bay to a massive ocean of the planet. The Black Spike Mountains were now teeming with Onu-Matoran and vast mines rather than Skrall, an previously rare jungle was now the residence of Plantlife and Air villages, and many more things were introduced. Kiina had also heard of a gigantic fortress somewhere on the planet. She eventually arrived at Tajun, and went up to the Turaga to accept any jobs. After all, the planet had been quite peaceful after a few squabbles were settled between the worlds after about a year or so. Kiina had walked up to the Turaga's temple, and found that many other Toa of Water were gathered there. The Toa known as Gaaki, Gali and Hahli were gathered here. Even Tarix was there, even though no one had ever called him a Toa. "Wait, what are you all doing here? Unless it's another one of your stories, Nokama, why are we here?" asked Kiina. "We have a crisis in the Black Spike Mountains, apparently. And for some reason, we are called upon. Willing to join us, Kiina?" interrupted Hahli. "Well, yes. Who is causing the problem, though?" said Kiina. "Nokama says there has been an overthrow of the Onu-Matoran in the Black Spike Mountains. She thinks some rogue Dark Hunters are behind this." replied Gaaki. "We don't have to time to jump to assumptions, but we should just go if you ask me." said Hahli. "Let us go to the Black Spike Mountains, noble Toa. Quickly." said Nokama. With the Turaga's word, Kiina and Tarix once again started up their Thornatus vehicles, Gali flew away with her Adaptive Armour, and everyone else hopped on the Glatorian's vehicles. The Black Spike Mountains were quite a way's away, and took a rather long trip. When the sun of Solis Magna started to set, the Toa and Glatorian stopped at the Ice Tribe to rest. The icy mountains and settlement were about the same as they were five years ago, but not in terms of population. Most of the Ice Agori had moved away to the larger mountains and glaciers, where most of the Matoran, Toa and Turaga moved to. This mountain range gradually had it's ice melted, and it gradually became just another mountain in the Black Spike range. The company of heroes had rested in a cave just near the desert sands, but getting light wasn't too easy, as, needless to say, these warriors of water weren't very good with fire. Fortunately, Tarix always carried around a lightstone, which he was given by a Matoran called Taipu. The lightstone had a small radius of illumination, but the company gathered around it anyway. With that, the company had a chat. "Dark Hunters, eh? Wouldn't they just slavishly follow their leader? Or move to a better hiding spot? The Black Spike Mountains are bustling with Matoran and resources! Not a very good hideout." said Hahli. "The Mountains do have many caves and resources, so it could actually be an ideal Dark Hunter spot once they clear out all the Onu-Matoran. They might as well follow in the footsteps of the Skrall. They used to live there, from what I've heard." replied Gali. "You would be right. These Matoran would have added some kinks into the mountains, so that would probably attract these Hunters." said Tarix. "In case you will be wondering where I am, I'm going to scout out the mountain. Don't worry about me." stated Kiina. The mountain that was once the Ice Tribe was quite tall and expansive. But once Kiina had finally reached the summit, she looked over the landscape and saw the location that her company would soon reach - The Black Spike Mountains. The Mountains appeared to be bustling with Matoran, but this was mostly due to the large amount of huts, lights and mines. As she climbed down a little bit from the summit, she squinted her eyes and scanned the area. Then, she saw what seemed to be a hulking brute with four arms, who was walking behind a imposing, armoured figure. She didn't recognise it, so she climbed back down to the camp and notified the company. "Excuse me, but we have some activity in the Black Spikes. There seems to be a big shell with four arms accompanying a rather menacing figure. Have any idea how this might be?" asked Kiina. "Nokama was right. There are Dark Hunters in the Black Spike Mountains. This 'big shell' is The Shadowed One's main bodyguard. But from what I've heard, this brute was sent to Voya Nui to find the Piraka. It's quite unlikely that he has found his way back to his master though." said Hahli. "May be, Hahli. With that, I guess we won't have time for resting. Let's go find these Hunters." replied Gaaki. After Gaaki's word of action, the company were off to the Mountains in a few seconds. Tarix and Kiina started up their Thornatus vehicles, Hahli and Gaaki hopped on, and before Gali soared away, she said: "I'm going to scout out the area. If there's any trouble, you'll hear flash floods." "Ugh. Wish I had jetpack armour..." groaned Kiina. A quick trip to the Black Spike Mountains followed, and Kiina rushed foward in front of Tarix's vehicle, and without a word, smirked at Tarix. Right as she parked her Thornatus, however, a bolt of energy had struck the ground, previously on a course for the vehicle. Kiina had managed to quickly swerve the Thornatus away. Another energy bolt was launched at the Thornatus, which was similarly dodged, until another was on an exact course for the vehicle, and Kiina shouted at her passenger to exit the Thornatus. It turns out exiting the vehicle was a good idea, as once the bolt of energy had struck the Thornatus, it was engulfed in energy, and dematerialised. Gaaki lay in the sand and saw the diminishing Thornatus, and knew exactly what this was. A Dematerialisation Rhotuka. With this realisation, Gaaki shouted: "Tarix! Hahli! Get off your vehicles! Now! Dematerialisation Rhotuka!" Confused, Tarix jumped out of the driver's seat anyway, but Hahli was aware of this threat, and promptly jumped onto the sand. Hahli quickly scanned the rocks above, and saw what Kiina had vaguely described. A big shell with four arms. Except now, she saw it was yellow, had several weapons in it's hands, and stood rather tall. It was Sentrakh. With the Dark Hunter in sight, Gaaki charged up her Tidal Spear, and hit Sentrakh with a powerful torrent of water. Suddenly, Gaaki's Mask of Clairvoyance activated, without any intent from Gaaki. In the resulting vision, she saw herself fighting against strange Dark Hunters, coming in the forms of fusions, mutations, and beast-like beings. Also in the vision, she saw a massive wave flooding the tunnels, destroying all light. Intrigued, Gaaki wanted to know more, but the vision abruptly stopped. She snapped back to her senses, and went into the Black Spike Mountains to catch up with the rest of the company. Meanwhile, Gali had landed on the sharp peak of a nearby spike to make her job of scouting out a bit more secretive. She looked into the Mountains, and saw an odd clawed Dark Hunter pacing around an entrance, guarding it from intruders. "Looks like I'm going to catch a guard off-guard..." whispered Gali. She aimed her Nynrah Ghostblaster at the guard, setting it to the lowest level, and silently fired at the Hunter. The Hunter fell down from the shock, and fell unconscious. With the guard out of the way, she covertly flew into the fortress and looked around. There were very few guards around the other entrances, and actually not very many in the Black Spike Mountains. Gali flew back up to the top of the mountains, and saw a rather large group of Dark Hunters leading a charge against what seemed to be the rest of the Toa. With this sight, she flew in closer and starting creating a flood. Hahli had walked up a dune and saw the charging of Dark Hunters, and prepared to fight. Gaaki charged up her Rhotuka, Kiina powered up her weapon, and Tarix got into a defense position. Once the Dark Hunters had just about reached the Toa, an intense amount of Water energy was fired at the oncoming enemy. Water had defeated many of the Hunters, and were overwhelmed by the power of the waves. However, some of the Hunters stood, not at all wavered. Firedracax, in particular had a firm grip on his staff, as he heated any of the water being fired at him into steam in an instant. "Alright, maybe we should have brought along a Toa of Ice. We can't douse this fiery Hunter..." said Kiina. "Maybe we can!" shouted Gali from a distance. Maybe the Toa Nuva could. The flood she created was indeed huge, rivaled only by a Nova Blast. The wave had rushed out of the mountains in seconds, and the intense force made any surrounding spikes collapse from the loss of support. As it came down on Firedracax, he yet again focused his Fire powers to turn the flood into steam. He used his power with immense effort, until his Fire powers slightly diminished from the use, allowing the waves to crash down on him. "Impressive, Gali. Maybe we're fine against Fire after all." said Gaaki. "We might be. But The Shadowed One is still in that fortress, and that army we just saw couldn't be all of the Dark Hunters he has." replied Gali. "Okay, keep unleashing floods if you want, but we still have Onu-Matoran to save, right? We might want to prioritise here." queried Kiina. "Well, we've got to get The Shadowed One out of the mountains. It would be essential to do that first, don't you think?" said Hahli. "Alright... let's get this shadowed guy out of here." mumbled Kiina. The company then went inside the Black Spike Mountains to meet The Shadowed One, and fought the occasional guard among the entrances. Kiina and Tarix, however, were not accompanying the rest. They were looking around the vast caves that the Onu-Matoran left when they were living in the mountains, hoping to find the presumably captured Matoran. Most of the searches yielding nothing, as they were mainly abandoned mines. But during the search of yet another cave, they saw something rather interesting. A Toa of Earth in a stasis tube. "What's he doing here? Wouldn't they just kill him? said Tarix confusingly. "I'm not sure. Maybe holding him for ransom?" replied Kiina. The two looked around the chamber a little more, they saw a Dark Hunter guard, and quickly hid behind a wall. However this was useless. The Dark Hunter called "Dweller" had seen the two looking at the stasis field, and tracked them down. He proceeded to destroy the wall next to them, revealing the two to him. "Ahhh... so there you are. Like mental blasts?" said Dweller. "Dweller" had focused his mental blast into Kiina, sending her reeling to the back wall, screaming in pain. Before "Dweller" was able to kill her, Tarix quickly slashed at his armour and claws, destroying his claws and damaging his armour. This was enough to distract him, and Tarix managed to pick him up and throw him into another empty stasis tube, keeping him in suspended animation. "Uggghh... that really hurt. That could have killed me..." mumbled Kiina, trying to recover. "It didn't this time. We would want to get this Toa of Earth out, but how? He's in a stasis field." said Tarix. "Ummm... smash it? said Kiina. After Kiina had mentioned smashing the tube, she did indeed smash it. With a quick slice of the glass that held the Toa, the Toa fell down limply, and started breathing again. He stood up, and was confused about why he was here. "Hello there, Toa of Earth. Who are you? Do you know why you're here?" asked Kiina. "My name is Toa Nuparu. And I was in the Black Spike Mountains, but I'm here now for some reason." replied Nuparu. "We'll find out soon, I suppose. For now, you can help us. By the way. I'm Tarix." he said. "Well, Tarix, what's the problem?" said Nuparu. "I'll answer that. The Dark Hunters have taken over the Black Spike Mountains, and we currently leading a charge against "The Shadowed One" along with some other Toa. Will you help us?" said Kiina. "Dark Hunters? Toa? Taking over? I'll certainly help." responded Nuparu. The three then went back up the stairs and back on the surface, where they ran along a tunnel, presumably leading to another chamber. Nuparu had led the way, as he was inhabiting the Black Spike Mountains prior to his capture, and he knew the tunnels and the way around quite well. This eventually led them to the rest of the Toa, who were fighting against a few more Dark Hunters in a hallway outside of a conference room. The Toa were struggling to fight a powerful four-legged Dark Hunter and Sentrakh. This fight was interrupted when Nuparu shot up two stalagmites in front of the Hunters, and encased them in a thick coat of rock. He then proceeded to throw them across the room. "Nuparu! Where have you been?!" asked Hahli. "Well... I've been a protector of the Onu-Matoran here, but I soon woke up in a stasis tube." replied Nuparu.
  12. In reference to 777stairs's topic. Read that for details on why he thinks these characters should be the same species. For reference, here are their BS01 pages: Tyrant, The Shadowed One, Ancient, Conjurer. Apparently this has Greg's seal of approval so may democracy prevail in this matter. Please forward all questions and inquiries to @777stairs.

"I dislike a traitor, but I despise an incompetent one." - The Shadowed One Entry Picture The Shadowed One (BBCC #69) by DARKSIDERZ, on Flickr Ever since I saw the contest title, I knew exactly which character I wanted to build, and the more I found out about him, the more I actually liked him. This guy is a baddie through and through, and his attitude towards treason makes me respect him a lot A little back story As the people of Okoto look to the horizon, they spot a fleet of ships approaching their homeland. And since they had never come across outsiders before, they are inclined to greet the newcomers. Little did they know, however, that in doing so they would be greeting their own demise. For The Shadowed One and his armies of Dark Hunters have arrived, seeking control over Okoto, and in search of the Mask of Ultimate Power! The MOC Features a custom gearbox for cool punching motion and action poses, and the Staff of Protodermis with a launchable Rhotuka spinner. 14. So, the old topic kind of died with little being resolved, but I liked the idea too much to let it go. If you've ever taken a look at BS01's Unnamed Species List, you'll find a ridiculous number of sapient species in the MU. Many of them are the Barraki or members of the OoMN or Dark Hunters, many of which were just waved off as their own species. But as we looked closer, there are many characters with similar physical traits, powers, or histories. Many of the inconsistencies are easily explained by mutations or technology, or simply interspecies variations. Just as Matoran and Skakdi have elemental subspecies, many of these other species could be divided up in new ways. I've read through the old topic again, and I've compiled a new list of species and subspecies based on these suggestions. Please note these are all my own decisions and they are by no means the right ones. I welcome suggestion or debate on any of them, otherwise I wouldn't have made a topic. Canon 1. Makuta Prototypes Darkness Eliminator Shadow Stealer Originally designed by the Great Beings to be keepers of order and creators of the Rahi. The early prototypes were given elemental Shadow and often additional powers, but the versions perfected and created by Mata Nui were also given the 42 Kraata Powers plus a few extras. They have the ability to use Kanohi. A little known fact about them is that they grow far more powerful when exposed to Antidermis, a plausible explanation for their dominance of the other, more powerful species of Stelt. 5. Vortixx Roodaka Conjurer The inventive and intelligent inhabitants of Xia. Lariska The original inhabitants of Odina before they were betrayed by Lariska and destroyed with the sole exception of her. 6. Zyglak An amphibious species with a hatred for Matoran. Their scaly skin is coated with an organic Protodermis destroying disease. They are immune to Pit Mutagen and virtually invulnerable to elemental attacks. Barraki 7. Carapar Axxon Carapar's race was one of the first created in the Matoran Universe, as implied by Axonn's status as an ex-Hand of Artahka member. They are unable to breathe air and are thus confined to the oceans around Zakaz without breathing apparatuses. Each member has been modified by the OoMN, giving them great strength and powerful claws to kill Makuta. They are also able to wear Kanohi. 9. Kalmah A species with the ability to wear Kanohi. They are able to wear Kanohi. 12. Takadox A species with the abilities to hypnotize others and wear Kanohi. Other 13. Airwatcher Airwatchers' backstory seems to imply he is one of the last of his kind. Perhaps the others were hunted to extinction or killed themselves off due to their own dim-wittedness. His classification as a sentient species is questionable, and he could easily be a mislabeled Rahi. Airwatcher possesses wings and a chest launcher, the latter may have been the result of Dark Hunter modification. 14. Amphibax An amphibious species with close relations to Ehlek's species, agile on land and in the sea. They also possess enhanced senses. 15. Botar Botar's Replacement Another race hailing from the Southern Isles, known to be "savage," perhaps meaning more primitive or superstitious than the rest of the universe. This species towers over most others and has the ability to teleport and use Kanohi. 16. Dweller Vanisher Vengeance This is one of the few MU species to grow as they age, ranging from just below Toa height to towering titans. Their common traits include long, thin wings and horns atop their heads used to channel their psionic subpowers unique to each individual. 17. 18. Mimic A species from a distant land that was destroyed in a natural disaster. At least some members of this species possess photographic reflexes. 19. Nocturn Sentrakh A four-armed and powerful species with the ability to regrow lost limbs. They are immune to Pit Mutagen. Their home island was destroyed by Nocturn with few survivors. Sentrakh was taken before or after and heavily modified by The Shadowed One. 20. 21. Poison A species nearly wiped out by Matoran as they were mistaken for violent Rahi. Their poison, which is ejected from their mouths, paralyzes the victim and is lethal within half an hour, though they are not immune. They also possess stunning tails. 22. The Shadowed One Ancient A species from a bleak an icy land engulfed in a civil war. This species possesses limb-like tails and possible eye beams. Perhaps an overlap with Tyrant's species? 23. Tyrant Guardian Lurker The residents of a small island to the south of Odina split between possibly elemental tribes, one of which Tyrant was a leader. Lurker killed another member of his species and was banished from his home. Tyrant left his position to become a Dark Hunter during the Toa/Dark Hunter War. Guardian's tribe was betrayed and he was the only survivor. This species is commonly red and wields natural weapons such as claws, teeth, tusks, and bladed tails, though it is not unknown for them to have elemental affiliations or even basic abilities. Jerbraz, who cannot use Kanohi, and the inhabitants of Nynrah, intelligent crafters, are in there somewhere.
  15. This is an idea I've had in my head for a while now. If you have ever taken a look at BS01's Unnamed Species list, you'll find there's a ridiculous number of sapient species in the MU. Many of them come from the Barraki, OoMN, and Dark Hunters, of which most had their own species. So, I was wondering if there was any potential for overlap? The MU is an interesting place. Toa, Matoran, and Skakdi have elemental subspecies. Perhaps in the others there could be more drastic appearance changes between the elements. For example, Lurker could be a the fire equivalent of, say, Guardian's species. Many of the changes could be accounted for by the mutations and experiments that seem to define Dark Hunters. Despite this, I would not say the Barraki are all one variations of one species. That seems rather unfair for Mata Nui to privilege one species over all the others in the MU. But I suppose the option is open. So, are there any overlaps you can think of? Perhaps Darkness could be of Brutaka's species, or Conjurer could be a Vortixx (advanced technology passed off as magic?), Triglax could be a Krahka (she's not on the list, but I would say she would be at least as intelligent as he is, and his employment might mean they would have little contact, and others would not realize what they are given shapeshifting powers), and Vanisher could be a member of Botar's species (perhaps a little farfetched given his appearance).
  16. Welome to Odina, Dark Hunter. The Shadowed One has tasked all new recruits with navigating a giant maze to find their way to the treasures within. However, there are no set rules as to whether or not you need to co-operate with the other recruits, so use any powers you have at your disposal to ensure that you become the ultimate victor. How to Play: Dark Hunters are a ruthless bunch. Your job is to create intricate traps for your opponents so that only you can get the treasures. In addition to laying traps, you must figure out a way to escape the trap laid before you.For (a very simple) example, Person A uses their power to cover the ground in vines that ensnare the next person; regardless of how high you can fly or jump, the vines find a way to tangle you up in them.Person B, however, notices that Person A only specified how high above the vines you are, and not how low. They decide to tunnel under them, and bypass the trap. Person B then covers the area in Toa-sized Ash Bear traps, and so on. Rules: Don’t make your trap the ‘ultimate trap of all time’, make one that is A) feasible to create in the maze and B) one that can be solved with some tricky thinkingKeep the powers that you use to a normal level, too (i.e. time manipulation is a power that nobody casually has, so keep that in mind)That being said, think outside of the box as to what you can do!Most importantly, don’t let the Shadowed One see any weaknesses; he did hire you based on your thief mindset, so use that to your advantage. Creativity is rewarded on Odina; bright minds go far places. And follow all G&T forum rules and general BZPower rules Now, to start: I use my powers over ice to coat the area in a slipper layer of ice, with spikes jutting out from all corners of the hallway
  17. So, I was kinda bored one day, and said to myself, "hey, why don't I make an epic in BZP about some assassin dude or something?" So I did. This is an epic about a Toa of Electricity that works as an assassin for the Dark Hunters. It's basically going to be like Assassin's Creed + Dishonored + Bionicle, so, if I write it well, it should be pretty awesome. By the way, here is the review topic. So, without any more rambling, I bring you... An Assassin's Fate Chapter I Hiko was cornered. Her assailant, whom she did not know the name of, had backed her into a corner, hammer raised. Her attacker wore a golden crowned mask, seeming to radiate power and mystery. All of his armor was gold, with some blue, black, and white mixed in. His radiant blue eyes seemed to almost blind her. She had made a mistake coming here. Hiko was a mercenary, wandering the world, accepting jobs to neutralize wild rahi and other threats. She carried a zamor sphere launcher and two swords, one acting as a backup. She is very skilled with swords, and is decent with crossbows and other ranged weapons. She tries to follow the Toa’s Code, but can get really angry. You don’t like Hiko when she’s angry. At some point, she came across an island with an outpost located on it. One of her employers had told her to come here before and eliminate everyone there, though she could not find it. Now that she has found it, however, she felt an urge to finish her job. She entered, and attempted to sneak up on a gold-armored being, hammering away at something. However, he noticed her and managed to get her cornered. Now, her armor is cracked, both of her swords ripped from her hand, and her zamor launcher split in two. Her only mask was the Kanohi Volitak, the mask of stealth, which could not help her now. Her elemental abilities had been drained hundreds of years ago, by a mysterious being that she still does not know the name of. She was utterly defenseless. It was her time to die. Hiko saw her attacker’s muscles tense as he prepared to crush her with his hammer. Suddenly, he was pushed aside. Hiko recognized her savior as Tracker, a Dark Hunter whom she had known for a while, and was great friends with. Tracker and Hiko’s assailant battled on the other side of the room, though it was obvious to Hiko that Tracker was losing. His pet bull ran up to Hiko, picked her up, and ran toward the exit of the room. Hiko looked back just in time to see Tracker explode in a brilliant burst of gold, red, and white. His murderer, the crowned being, stood with his palm facing the place where Tracker was just a moment ago. His bull kept running, and Hiko didn’t dare jumping off to confront the crowned being once more. He fired beams of pure energy and creation toward Hiko and Tracker’s bull, missing by mere centimeters each time. Finally, Tracker’s bull burst out of the room, scrambled down toward the beach of the island, and jumped onto a boat, where another Dark Hunter was waiting. Hiko was speechless. She had seen death, but nothing quite so horrible as what she just saw. She vowed to get revenge on the crowned being, and the Dark Hunter manning the boat could see the pain, grief, and bloodlust on her face. He knew immediately what had happened, and sped the boat toward Odina, the island that houses the fortress of the Dark Hunters. The Dark Hunter manning the boat introduced himself as Amphibax, a Hunter that specialized in water missions. Several hours later, they arrived at Odina. There, Amphibax took Hiko into the Dark Hunter’s fortress, and to the Shadowed One himself. “Master, I have brought you a Toa. She appears to be the one Tracker was looking for. What shall we do with her?” asked Amphibax to the Shadowed One. “Leave the room. Let me speak to her,” he replied. Amphibax left the room, leaving Hiko and the Shadowed One alone in the throne room “So, Toa, tell me. What is your name and who are you? Tell me everything about you,” he commanded. Hiko wasn’t sure about this. She heard about the Shadowed One, and how he can obliterate you with a mere glare. However, she obliged, and explained to him, “I am Hiko, a Toa of Electricity. I am a mercenary, and I am skilled with many weapons. However, all of my equipment was nearly destroyed or completely destroyed in a fight, just a few hours ago. I wear the Kanohi Volitak, the mask of stealth. My elemental powers have been drained, so I can’t use them without something to amplify them.” The Shadowed One looked surprised when he heard that last sentence. “Your powers have been drained..?” he repeated, under his breath, and then said to her, “Tell me about this fight you were in. What happened? Where is Tracker?” Hiko flinched at the mention of Tracker, but she told him what happened. The Shadowed One contemplated this. “So Tracker is dead?” he asked. Hiko nodded. The Shadowed One’s tone changed from patient and calm to furious and colder than an angry Toa of Ice in a blizzard. “I will get you your revenge,” he said to her. Review Topic
  18. As a pure genwunner who is against this idea of a 100% reboot, obviously I yearn for more Gen 1 elements in Gen 2 Bionicle. But what's to say it won't happen? LEGO stated in their meeting in BZPower's video that they wanted to dumb down the names so younger fans can more easily understand, meaning species like Matoran, Skakdi, Vortixx and Skrall are no more. But there are a few elements of Gen 1 that can still work despite this: Dark Hunters The ultimate example of Gen 1 elements that can transition seamlessly into Gen 2 are the Dark Hunters. The name "Dark Hunters" is perfect for the new naming system used in Gen 2 Bionicle, the name "The Shadowed One" is both mysterious and fitting for Gen 2, and nearly all Dark Hunters have English code names (though there's no way we'll see Gen 1 characters that don't, such as Triglax and Lariska). When I was hoping for a continuation, I argued that The Shadowed One would be the perfect new main villain because of his hidden name, and his organisation, and I can see both returning in Gen 2 Bionicle as alternate villains. Bionicle has had alternate villains before and lasted 9 years doing so (Dark Hunters, Barraki, Skrall), and other successful franchises had multiple main villains (eg. Batman had the Joker and the Riddler, and Spiderman had Goblin and Doc Oc), so why not do it again now? Great Beings The Great Beings could be deities or demigods (or even Gods) in Gen 2 Bionicle. In fact I feel Ekimu and Makuta could be Great Beings. Okay, so Gen 1 Great Beings can't wear masks, but what's stopping Gen 2 Great Beings (if they exist) from being able to do so? Remember, this is a reboot, so LEGO can easily redesign the Great Beings as they see fit. Great Spirits Again with the idea of redesigning past elements, Gen 2 Bionicle could have Gods known as Great Spirits who could be worshipped as Mata Nui was (and be actual spirits rather than 40,000,000' tall robots).
  19. Before I start the story, a few things I need to say. First, this is my first story I've posted to BZPower, so if it's not great, well, I'm an amateur. Second, I'm putting this story here rather than in comedies because despite all the jokes, it's not completely comedy. And finally, as the title says, this is about everyone's favorite mouthy merc, Deadpool, except as a BIONICLE character. I've tried to retain as much of the actual character of Deadpool as I can. Ok, now that this is out of the way, here's the story (so far; it's not quite finished. This is the first part). Enjoy! The Turaga didn’t notice the person who was planning to kill him. Which was odd, considering the murderer is pretty hard not to notice, with his bright red (and also black) armor. But not being noticed was part of this being’s plan. He needed to be stealthy to pull this off. Multiple Toa guarded this Turaga. The being- "Ahem," the being said. What? "I have a name, you know." The being, better known as Deadpool, had no idea why this Turaga was being guarded so heavily, but it didn’t matter. Deadpool made sure his aim was perfect (the Turaga’s head, that way he wouldn’t come back as a zombie. Granted, it was quite unlikely the Turaga would become a zombie, but it’s always a possibility, at least in Deadpool’s mind.), and fired. The Turaga fell, dead. "AWWWW YEAH!" Deadpool cried out in joy – admittedly unprofessional, but whatever. Unfortunately, his lack of professionalism would cost him, as one of the Toa – probably a Toa of Sonics, since how else could they notice Deadpool’s voice from here? – turned to look at the mercenary. "Uh oh." Deadpool said. Great job, one of the voices in Deadpool’s head said. "Shouldn’t you be in a white panel?" Deadpool inquired. If this were a comic. However, this all written word. So I’m just bolded. "Good to know," Deadpool said, and started running. What’s your plan? And does it involve explosions? Yet another voice in Deadpool’s head chimed in. "It might," Deadpool responded. Yay! Thoughts ran through Deadpool’s head, which stopped as abruptly as Deadpool’s actual running, since he ran headfirst into something. Or someone. He looked at the being he ran into. He was tall, had some type of levitation device or fashionable footwear on his feet, and was blue. "Who are you, and do you contribute to the plot of this story at all?" Deadpool asked the large blue being. "Plot? What are you talking about?" the being asked. "Never mind. Fourth wall thing. But who in the name of Mata Nui’s exhaust port are you, and why are you standing in front of me?" "Name’s Ancient. And I’m here to recruit you." The being we now all know to be Ancient told Deadpool. "Recruit me? Into what?" And does it involve explosions? "And does it involve explosions?" "An organization of thieves and assassins. We do the jobs that the Matoran are too timid to do, and the Brotherhood of Makuta and Toa think of as beneath them." "So like those lawyers on daytime television?" Ancient gave Deadpool a blank stare. "Another fourth wall thing." Deadpool clarified. Ancient looked as if he were wondering whether inducting Deadpool into whatever organization he was talking about was really such a good idea. "So, Ancient, what if I don’t want into this organization?" Ancient pointed behind Deadpool, where Toa were starting to try and get him. "I’ll leave you to the Toa. Do you want that?" Ancient told Deadpool. Deadpool thought about it, and replied, "Nah, not really. It doesn’t sound like that much fun, and I don’t feel like killing them right now. So joining your little organization sounds smart right now." "Good. But our location is a secret. Usually I’d just blindfold you and take there, but I don’t have a blindfold right now. So I’ll do something else," Ancient told Deadpool, right before punching him in the face and knocking him unconscious.
  20. So I was doing some thinking, and I had a crazy idea. What if lego made a Bionicle TV show? I thought about it, and realized that a TV show based on the mainstream storyline would be difficult because it would clash with the movies. Then I thought what if there was a TV show about the Toa Mangai? It could be called "Defenders of Metru Nui", the protagonists would be the 11 Toa Mangai (Lhikan, Nidhiki, Tuyet, Naho, 4 unnamed toa of ice, and 3 unknown toa) the antagonists could be the Dark Hunters. The plot would be the Toa Mangai foiling various Dark Hunter attempts to take over the city. There could be a pilot arc about the founding of the team and the defeat of the Kanohi Dragon, a Tuyet betrayal arc, and the finale could be a Toa/Dark Hunter war arc. These big arcs could be seperated by shorter episode arcs that would allow some creative license to the writers, for example: various untold Dark Hunter plots, an archives breakout, possibly an origin to the metru nui tahtorak, etc. You could watch Lhikan and Nidhiki progress from being best friends to Nidhiki's betrayal attempt. There is a lot of room here for storytelling and character development, you could even have the team have some adventures on other islands like xia. There could be an episode where Nidhiki encounters Krekka and has to fight him as a toa. Do you guys think a Bionicle TV show would've been cool? Do you have any ideas of your own for a Bionicle TV show (a toa hagah show, an order of mata nui show, etc.). Any opinions on my idea for a show? Let me know what you think.
  21. THE CHRONICLES OF MASUKO By Toa of Awesome REVIEW TOPIC: http://www.bzpower.com/board/index.php?showtopic=8773 PROLOGUE 20 years ago… It was a hot day, with the sunshine beating down on the backs of the Order of Mata Nui members. They were excavating for resources in a large clearing on a southern island. There were so many holes in the ground now that instead of land with holes in it; it was holes with a network of islands in it. Around the scene—near the edge of the clearing—lay all of the greenish tents that the Order Members dwelt in. All but one was empty. In the occupied tent sat the Order Member assigned to defend this place in the case of attack, as he examined a throwing knife with a bored expression. He was clad in forest green and dark grey armor. His Kanohi Calix was grey on the bottom part, giving him a sort of five o’clock shadow look. The being’s boredom was interrupted when he heard someone call “Masuko!” Getting up, he put the knife back in its sheath on his thigh and got up. “Yeah?” he asked as he walked out of the tent, he had been summoned by the chief digger, Turmos. “Look,” Turmos began, a slightly concerned expression on his face, “a couple of my guys say they saw something big walking around in the woods near here, probably a Muaka. Think you could go deal with that?” “Yeah, that’d be fine,” Masuko confirmed. “Alright, thanks.” Masuko walked out into the woods. The leaves were translucent in the sunlight, the light bleeding through and making their shadows a florescent green. A small breeze caused the trees to sway back and forth, animating the forest. Birds chirped their routine songs. Masuko suddenly felt a sharp pain in his side. He looked over and saw that something was sticking out of the tree he had just walked past. Bending over to get a closer look, he saw that the strange object was shiny and disk-shaped. It was dirty, clouding out the shine and gold color. Strangely enough, it seemed to have been launched into the tree with enough force to bury itself into the trunk, and the area around the gash was scorched. Masuko wrenched the object out of the plant with great effort. Wiping off the sides, Masuko saw that it was a coin. On one side of the coin was engraved a normal Kanohi Hau. On the other side, another Kanohi Hau was engraved, but it was scratched up and cracked. It was a really creepy image, too. The mask didn’t look old or worn, rather violently pounded and hammered. Masuko, fascinated by the strange object examined it with morbid interest. After a while, he started to feel faint, like he was fading away. He entered a strange trance as he stared into the eyes of the battered mask. He started to get tunnel vision. It was like an uncontrollable sleep was coming over him. Soon the coin was the only thing in focus, and everything else was blurry beyond recognition. A deafening roar interrupted the phenomenon. Masuko shoved the coin into his throwing knife sheath and unstrapped his blade from his back. He scanned the scene, waiting for something to jump out. Before he could react, though, whatever made the roar jumped from behind, knocking him to the ground before landing in front of him. It was a Muaka, bearing its teeth aggressively. Masuko suddenly pulled out the coin. He didn’t know why, he just did. To his horror, a voice sounded in his mind. Look at me, it said. He stared into the damaged mask’s eyes, unable to control himself. He felt the same fading feeling as he did before, and this time it was stronger, faster. The Muaka came over to him, probably to eat him, then suddenly his vision went black. The scene spontaneously changed in the blink of an eye. Now Masuko was lying on the ground, staring up at a stormy sky. It was raining, and thunder rolled loudly. He looked at his hands and jolted in surprise. They were covered in blood! It didn’t take Masuko long to realize the blood was not his. He looked to the side and saw the rotting carcass of the Muaka lying beside him. He got up and picked up his sword. Looking down, he saw the coin in the mud. He picked it up and looked at it again, but something was wrong. There were still two masks on it—one normal and one beat up—but now the masks took on a different look… his mask.

    Shadow Destiny

Shadow Destiny PrologueShadow. It's what we all fear. It seems to consume things. Everywhere deep down inside us all, It seems to lurk, only coming out in your worst moments. Of course, I view it differently. Shadow to me is power. Even as a Le-Matoran after the fall of Makuta I realized that shadow is a part of life. Of course, at that time I was living in an encampment outside of the fallen robot that housed the Matoran Universe, but that didn't mean I was stupid. But where did things happen? How did I become this legendary being I am today? Well it all began with a simple Ga-Matoran by the name of Jetus... Chapter 1It all started one day when Jetus decided that she and I make a name for ourselves "Think about it Krill!" she said "The others could make statues in our name! We could be the heroes we deserve to be! I'm tired of sitting here, existing for no reason. I'm sick of it! SICK OF IT!" "Your head is full-filled with all this sand..." I muttered back. But the idea never went away. After all, Jetus was one of my best friends, and she helped me whenever she could. Some would go as far as to say we had a romantic relationship together, but I would quickly deny it. She was brilliant, headstrong, and had a sense of humor. Of course, being a nature loving Ga-Matoran, she would also teach me about rahi. Of course I had little to offer her in return. But one night, we got the chance to make her dream, our dream, come true. The menacing Dark Hunters had re-organized on Sepherus Magna, and had attacked the camp we were staying in. "This is it!" I said to her "This could be our break! We could be hero-saviors!" She dismissed me "We can't take them on. It was misguided of me to think that we can be heroes... I'm sorry Krill" I stormed off, determined to take them down myself. I traveled for days trying to find the strong hold, when finally a pair of hunters led me to it. It was a simple structure, but also very complex. I snuck in undetected by the guards because of my small stature, and made my way to their leader, the Shadowed One. My plan was to assassinate him and proclaim myself a hero to all. Of course, things never go according to plan. I snuck up behind the ancient being's throne, and almost stabbed him. One of the hunter's in the room noticed, and with lightning speed, pinned me to the wall. "Hey, master, we've got a live one!" he smiled as he threw me on the floor in front of the leader of the Dark Hunters. "And just who are you?" he laughed. Of course, coming out of him it sounded like two stones grinding together. “I am Krill, salesman of Le-Metru, ever-hero of Spherus Magnus, and soon to be the killer of the famed Shadowed One,” I said valiantly. Everyone in the room laughed. No one took me seriously. Once they got done making fun of me, the Shadowed One said, “So, you wish to kill me? Ah, Matoran are so misguided these days.” He motioned to a Skrall looking warrior brandishing a strange weapon. “Meet Salus, he’s going to test out his new weapon on you.” Salus smiled. He loved to hear the screams of his enemies, especially Matoran. He aimed the staff at me, and fired. I knew I was a dead matoan. When the beam hit, I felt excruciating pain, but then also power. My whole way of thinking changed in an instant. Why kill them when I can side with them I thought to my self I could become the most famous Dark Hunter ever! Maybe even take over the organization! I grew taller, and the knife and small thornax launcher in my had were transforming. When it was all said and done, I looked down at myself, and a new being stood there. I had jet black armor, a broadsword, and a mysterious looking launcher. I peered around the room. Everyone was in shock. I knew I had to make a statement if I wanted to join the clan. I walked over to the man who shot me, took the staff, and snapped it in half. I then let my rage an anger take over, grabbing him by the throat and stabbing him in the chest with my sword. He fell, to the ground, dead. “On second though, I may just join you.” I said. The Shadowed One replied, “There is a vacancy.” Chapter 2I was able to get a good look at myself before I had to do mock combat with other hunters. From my hands sprouted claws which I could flip open to use, and flip back to store. I also had a midnight-steel blue broadsword, well I guess you could say it was a scimitar, but to me it was a broad sword. In my other hand I held a strange launcher, of which I had no idea what it did. I readied myself as the doors to the chamber they put me in opened. I was in an arena filled with sand. A balcony stood on the far side, with the Shadowed One eyeing me intently. He whispered to a hunter next to him, and at his word the hunter took off. I stood there, looking around at the bleachers that surrounded me. They were mostly empty, except for a couple of board looking Dark Hunters. Well this is exciting... I thought to myself in disappointment. As if on cue, a door opened and a being lumbered out. He was huge, with massive claws and a sturdy body. It seemed you could beat his body for millennia and not make a scratch on it. Let's hope I'm wrong. I said as I charged at him. I did a perfect flip and used my sword to slash his backside. Nothing. The figure turned. "Not nice" he said, before flinging me across the arena. Ok new plan. I looked down at my launcher. Here goes nothing! I pulled the trigger and with a loud pop!, a mass of darkness flew out and hit the being in the shoulder. At first it did nothing, but as I started cursing, the being hollered out in pain. His shoulder was leaving him. Wait, leaving him? I couldn't believe my eyes. His shoulder was slowly dissolving into nothingness, being torn apart. That's when I remembered something that the Ko-Matoran Kopeke had told me about on Metru Nui. "I believe that the entire universe is being slowly ripped apart by a substance that I would like to call dark matter. This dark matter drives the atoms inside of the universe apart, thus expanding it," he told me. I thought him a fool but the device that I now held in my hand harnessed such energy. I smiled as the lumbering being passed out, and was dragged away, most of his amour on his right arm dissolved. That's when I felt it. Pain. I fell to the ground and pulled a dagger out of my back. My eyes widened with shock. "You've proven you can defeat someone with strength, but what about agility. Get up rahi-bones, time for a lesson." said a female voice from behind me. Lariska I said to myself. I had heard legends about Lariska, master of daggers. About how she almost got Toa Nidhiki to give Metru Nui to the Hunters. Another knife whizzed past. I used shadow energy to blind her, then hit her with a shadow blast from behind. She fell to the ground, only to get back up and throw 2 more daggers. I dodged the first, but the second hit me right in the mask. I would use this to my advantage. I fell to the ground, and acted unconscious. Lariska laughed and began to walk away. That was when I sprang up and put my sword around her throat. "I remember hearing something about you giving another hunter advice... What was it? Ah, yes. Never turn your back on your enemy until you know they are dead, and don't turn your back on a dark hunter until their amour is ground into dust." The shadowed one clapped slowly. "You have proven yourself, young one. A spot in our order awaits you." Two guards came and took me away, and I realized how great would I have it in this order... Chapter 3The guards led me to a chamber, with a small table in it. A small matoran stood at the table, tinkering with something. "Ah, you have arrived! Come come, sit sit. There is much to do you know." I sat on the table. "Who are you?" I asked. "The new recruits always have questions. Always." he mumbled to himself, "I am Tako, Onu-Matoran and all around tinkerer for the Dark Hunters. Now, let’s talk implants. I have everything you want! Of course we need to put this tracking device in first,” He said, stabbing me with a needle. “There we go! Now let me see, you want Cybernetics? swords? Horns? ‘Cmon, give me something to work with.” The matoran was talking so fast I could barley keep up. “Um.... uh,” “Um, uh, what? Tell me something I want facts not just you sitting there!” I’ve always wanted to fly.... “A jetpack.” I said after a while “Oh and some amour to cover my shoulders.” The matoran looked delighted “A jetpack! ah I’ve always wanted to test this out!” he said, running over to his drawers full of items. “let’s see here....no..... what is that? Eh, I’ll think of something to use it for.....Jethro..... jet thrower.....Ah! here it is! Jetpack!” He pulled out a tiny black machine, about the size of my hand. “Let me just attach this to your mask and that will be all.” “My mask?” I said, confused. “Ah yes, I designed so that when you move your head, you can move the jetpack! Ingenious right!” I thought quite the contrary. “Yeah..... Ingenious.” He beckoned for me to lean over, and ever so carefully put on the jetpack to the back of my mask. “I must say, marvelous mask! Let me see what it is..” My mask. I hadn’t studied it. It wasn’t really a full mask, it was more like the Kanohi Vahi, and only covered the lower part of my face with a spine leading the my back (which was were the jetpack was placed). “Ah here it is!” exclaimed Tako. “Kanohi Kahdren.... The mask of enslavement. Fascinating!” The matoran could barely contain his excitement. “can you take it off for just a moment so I can...” “No,” I said sternly. “I can’t do that” “fine...” the matoran said disappointed. I was then escorted to my dormitory, where I would stay as a Dark Hunter. As I walked in, a figure resembling a skrall was lifting weights. He had the normal skrall build, except with a different helmet, one that only let his eyes show through and conformed to his head, which was laced with red, and sleeker amour. “Who are you?” he said, noticing me and standing up. “I am... Uh...” I was divided on weather to tell him my real name. “Nah, I’m just teasing ya! Of course I know you! You’re the one that everyone is talking about, who defeated Lariska and Prototype! Bearer of Darkness! Of course, we all call you bearer.” Bearer I thought I could get used to that. “You know my name,” I replied “what is yours?” “Stealerack,” he said. “Of course call me by my codename, Thief.” “Well, Thief, I guess we will be roommates.” “I guess so.” After that conversation, we stood in awkward silence, only penetrated by the occasional question and people rushing by. Around mid-day an agent came in and beckoned us to follow him. Along the way I asked thief, "Do you know why he just took us?""Ah, yes, we are going on a mission!" Chapter 4We walked down the hallway to the outskirts of the fortress. There awaited a vehicle for each of us. The being guiding us gave us both tablets detailing our mission. They were clear and concise. I was to walk into a bar in New Valcanus, a city ruled by the fire tribe, and inquire to a water agori named Utuk about the location of the blueprints for a new weapon. Once we knew the location, I would relay them to Thief, who would steal them. As I walked into the bar I was afraid I would fail. But then I saw the agori in there, so small and harmless, I realized I would do this mission with no regret, or mercy. I walked over to the bar and tested out my mask. “Get me a drink,” I commanded. “For free? Ask somewhere else,” the bartender then went back to his work. “I said get me a drink,” This time I focused hard. the bartender looked me in the eye and was entranced. He gave me a drink. “Do not notice what I am about to do,” I said quietly. “do not notice what I am about to do...” he repeated in a soft tone, then went back to work, with a blank expression. I walked over to the both where Utuk was sitting. He was there with three friends, and they were drinking and laughing. “Utuk, tell me the location of the blueprints,” I said outright. Utuk looked confused, and a little scared. “Why should we do as you say?! ” said a drunken fire agori. “Yeah, after all you are a toa!” said a Jungle villager. “Don’t insult toa...” a water matoran said nearby in another booth. “Last chance, give me the location or I will make you give me the location.” The other drunken agaori at the both, this one an ice agori. “Hey, tough guy! Why don’t you beat it!” all the agori in the booth (except Utuk) laughed. “Then you have forced my hand,” I responded coldly. I then threw the water agori out of the booth. The other agori got up to fight, but before they could do so I drew my sword, swung it into the booth. There were four thumps as their heads hit the ground, and their bodies slumped in the booth. Everyone in the bar turned, except for the enslaved bartender, to look. If they want a show I'll give it to them. Utuk tried to make a break to the exit. I used shadow to bond him and he fell short. I walked over and picked him up. “I’ll ask you again, and unless you want to end up like your friends I suggest you tell me: Where are the blueprints?” “I’ll never tell your kind!” he screamed. squirming as I held him against the wall. “Do you really think that is wise?” I sheathed my sword and put the agori down. I pulled out my dark matter blaster. “Do you know what dark matter is?” I asked “It is a peculiar substance, driving our universe apart. This gun harnesses that energy and dissolve an agori in a matter of seconds. The question remains: which of your friends will face it’s destruction?” I then held the agori to the wall with my free hand, and scanned the room with the other. “Please no!” he cried “No more!” I scanned the room until I got to the water matoran who had said to respect toa. Utuk and her eyes met. It felt like Jetus and I’s relation ship. “NO STOP!!” he pleaded. “We have a winner,” I replied. The matoran made her escape towards the door, and she almost made it, until the dark matter hit her. Before she could even scream, a hiss dissolved her into nothingness. I loved the sound of a dissolved matoran. “NO!!!” the agori cried. “Tell me where the blueprints are,” I said, seizing the opportunity. “Tujan... THEY’RE IN TUJAN! In a house near the gate, under the desk,” the distraught agori yelled. “I’m done with this conversation,” I said, dropping the agori. As I walked out, I sensed his sadness turn to anger, and heard a sword begin drawn. In vain he yelled and tried to stab me. I was much to quick. Sparks flew as my blade met his, and passed thought it. Interesting, the only thing in the universe that could do that is protosteel, this must be made of a high grade quality, I thought. The agori wheeled as I kicked him in the chest. I picked up the stunned being and pinned him against the wall. “How dare you attack a dark hunter.” Utuk whimpered, then screamed in pain as my sword cut him in half. most of the agori had left the bar by now, but the rest watched in horror. The bartender still didn’t notice. “You are evil!” the water agori yelled, on his deathbed, “All you’re ever going to is spread it! Your more distasteful than Thornax soup! And you will be more hated then...” Crunch. I had grown tired of his talking, and ended his life by grinding his head beneath my foot. I began to walk away. Agori and matoran alike looked at me in shock. “Nothing to see here,” I said, casually walking away. Chapter 5I gave Thief the location of the hiding place and then proceeded to watch him steal it. He did it so expertly, that I barley even noticed he had gone into the building when he stood right next to me, with the blueprints in hand. “Easiest mission ever,” he remarked walking back to our vehicles. Easy for you to say... I muttered. When I got back the Shadowed One had heard of my encounter at the bar, and commended me. “Five agori and 1 matoran dead? I’m impressed. Your reputation grows, and in New Valcanus, people fear you,” he said “enjoy that luxury.” One of his assistance then handed us a scroll with the infor on our next mission. It wasn’t as simple as before: I had to, with the help of my partner Thief, go to Tujan again and assassinate a glatorian who had escaped the base’s prison. It seemed simple, but this glatiorian, named Levosock, had quite a reputation. He was kicked out of the arena for decapitating his opponents with cruelty. "I think we can handle a rowdy fighter," said thief. I wish I had his confidence. The road there was harsh, straight through zesk territory. More than once we had to fend ourselves off from the creatures' attacks. The two of us then arrived at the gates of Tujan. We quietly strode into the city, and no one noticed us. "He is hiding in a hut on the far side. How should we proceed?" I asked my partner. "There are so many ways. We could stage an accident, that always works. Or we could assassinate him from afar. Or just straight up murder him," He said. Thief was a master strategist, after all he was one of the elite Skrall Assassins, so it was in his training. We bickered over ideas, and decided on acting like we were in distress and killing him in his home. The two of us proceeded to his house. It was a small stone hut, it looked unimpressive, and the perfect place for a fugitive criminal to hide. Thief knocked on the door. Levosock cracked opened the door and regarded us coldly. "My friend and I are in need of some supplies," I said, trying to sound distressed as I could. "could you lend us some of your goods?" Thief shot me an angered look, he thought that what I had said was a huge red flag, and not to mention just plain stupid and unbelievable. Noticing this, I used my mask to control a tiny portion of his mind to do my bidding. A merciful person would have just used the mask to make him kill himself, but where is the fun in that? Try as I might to control him, his mind was shielded somehow. "Hunters.." Levosock said in a low voice, and then dashed inside. "Great job Bearer, you blew our cover!" quipped my partner. We rushed in after him. The glatorian made for a small window in the back, picking up his weapons before he left. We hurriedly followed him out. I expected him to go to the desert and find a cave to hide in, but he ran towards the middle of town. I followed in the streets, Thief jumped from rooftop to rooftop. Showoff... I thought to myself. When the Skrall assassin started to outrun the warrior, he jumped down into the street, and cut him off. Levosock stopped just before Thief's blade could hit him. The glatorian was caught in the middle, so he did the logical thing to do and fought. He lunged at me with amazing speed, staff in hand. When he tried to bring the large weapon down on me, I parried it with my own sword. Since my broadsword is made out of super-hard protosteel, it cut through his weapon like butter. I then kicked him in the stomach. Thief was about to strike the man down, but I held my hand up to stop him. Useing my dark matter launcher, I concentrated it to the smallest amout and fired. The shot went up one of his nostrils, and hopefully into his brain cavity. “You have seconds to live, I suggest you speak,” I said, after all, I like to know why I kill people. “Tell me why you were imprisoned, and why we had to kill you.” The matter was expanding his head and the pressure was rising. “Ok ok! I’ll talk,” he said, wallowing on the ground. “I was imprisoned because I sold a Skrall dark hunter a valuable stone given to me by the ancients.” he said. “You mean the great beings?” Asked Thief, obviously intrigued. “Yes, they entrusted me with it during the core wars, along with six others like it. He called them toa stones. Anyways, I hated those stones. They mocked me. They corrupted me. The dark green stone forced me to kill them!” “What green stone? Kill who?” I asked.“The green toa stone, the one I sold. As for who died, it was the glatorian. When you and your friends arived on this planet, a being, who described herself as Helryx, wanted the stones, for safekeeping she said.”“But you couldn’t let them go for free,” said Thief, smiling and nodding approvingly. “Of course not,” the glatorian snapped, “I am no fool! I ran away from her, to here. When you learned I had the stones...” “You were imprisoned, escaped, and we were sent to kill you,” I said, “It all makes sense now. The Skrall used the stone to make the weapon, a weapon that transformed toa powers into dark powers.... a weapon that turned me into a toa. They wanted that Skrall dead because he was a fool!”Levosock barely could nod, as he was in so much pain and agony. He screamed, and we sat there and watched him. He began to convulse, as the pressure was getting to his nerves. While this was going on, some of the local agori had contacted the local muscle: the Tujan Guard. The glatorain Tarix was with them, to see the cause of the comotion. He was shocked to discover us two and the dieing Glatorian. One of the best fighters of Tujan watched one of his own die horribly. Around the time the guard came, it was almost over. The pressure on his head was too much, soon causing it to fracture. And with that Levosock, guardian of the toa stones, was dead. Tarix witnessed this and was deeply angered. Little did we know at the time, that Tarix had been mentored in the art of fighting long ago by Levosock, and was not happy about his death. “NO!” he yelled, using his twin blades as boomerangs. Thief quickly deflected them, as the guard moved in from both sides. “You take Tarix I can handle the guard,” I told him, and he nodded and lunged at the glatorian. The guard moved in closer, believing they could overwhelm me. Agori... overwhelm me?! That’s crazy talk. I quickly used up much of my shadow energy to create chains of shadow to bound the agoris’ necks. the chocked and quickly passed out. Meanwhile Tarix and Thief were locked in combat. Thief was beating Tarix when Tarix leapt to a balcony and saw my carnage. Filled with rage, he foolishly threw both of his blades at me. They knocked the weapons out of my hands. “Oh really? You challenge me to fisticuffs?” I said, unfurling my claws. I jetpacked up to the balcony, and dug my claws into his shoulders. As he screamed in pain I flew higher and slammed him on the ground. He tried to get up once more, but a punch to the face by Thief assured he stayed down. I landed and walked over to him. Tarix was trying to crawl over on his chest to get his weapons. I landed on him, turned him over, and holding him with one hand, ripped him apart with a series of scratches and punches. My claws ripped through his amour like fruit, and severely damaged the tissue underneath.. With no guard to help him, he was defenseless. The final straw was when I used both my claws to rip open his chest plate. He released a sound from his lips that I hope I never again hear a glatorian, or anyone for that matter, make. Satisfied, Thief and I proceeded to exit the city. Tarix shouted at us, “Why don’t you finish me! Please! Have mercy on me!”I looked over my shoulder and replied “Dark Hunter’s rule of thumb, always leave one witness.” Chapter 6The ride back was quite smooth, and I had quite a lot of time to think. I began wondering about the agori and the matoran civilizations. It had been told that they were having trouble bonding. I was wondering about what would happen if full out war was put amongst them. But then another thought came to me. Levosock had said there were six toa stones So there must be five more toa other than me I thought. Toa that I can hunt and kill for my enjoyment. I smiled. Being evil is just too much fun. When we got back to the base Thief confronted me. "Clearly we need to work on your improvisation," he scolded me, "that back there, could have gotten us killed! You have to act naturally, and not just rely on your powers." I shrugged him off. Who need some old skrall to boss you around? Many more missions went by, all more dangerous then the rest. (Don't ask me about the one with the Scorpio and the Thornax fruit) After one particular mission, I went into the Shadowed One's chamber, and he did not look happy. "Ah, Bearer," he said, "I heard about the tribe of Zesk, and I must commend you on it. But we have a problem. Apparently five toa have killed some of my most valuable operatives, and even have dared to steal from some of my caravans." "So you want me to kill them? Seems simple enough," I replied"No, I want you to do more than kill them. I want you to kill them slowly. Do what you did in Tujan. But I think you can take them on alone."Alone?! I thought Is he insane."Piece of cake," I said. And with that, I went off to meet the toa magna for the first time.Their camp was desolate. It was in the middle of nowhere, why they were there, was a mystery to me. It was a well known trade route, and was often used by the hunters to transport materials and agents from place to place. I waited until nightfall to make my move. As I drew closer to the location I overheard them talking around a fire."I'm just saying, Muyia that there is a sixth member of our team," the white armored one said, I deduced he was a toa of ice. The green-blue toa of plant life named 'Muyia' responded "So what we have five, that doesn't make us incomplete!""I'm just saying Levosock said there were six stones and he sold one" I shivered at the mention of Levosock So this is the toa team I was meant to be with.A blue toa of water stood up. "Maybe it's Krill!"I had heard that voice before... but it couldn't be"Jetus,” I said to myself. She had become a toa!All five turned and found me crouched there.I cursed. “So is this the famous krill we have been hearing about sister?” asked the black toa of earth.“I don’t know, he was a Le-Matoran, and toa of air are not black,” she looked at me quizzically.“Am I krill? both yes and no. The old Krill is dead. The dark hunter Bearer is not.”“I knew it,” said Muyia, “I knew they had transformed him all along, and now, we must kill him!” Jetus stoped him, “No! it is not the toa way, we do not kill, we must help him.”“I dont know about you, but I love to kill,” I replied, and I threw a blast of shadow at them, and dove away from blasts of ice, earth, heat, water, and plants. But by the time the darkness cleared I was gone.“Stay together, he is around here somewhere,” Said the toa of ice. They circled around the campfire, looking through the dunes to try to spot me. But they wouldn’t. I had a plan B, and they were falling for it. I got in my Thoratus, and sped over the dunes and rammed into the five toa. As I turned around for another sweep, the toa of ice produced a slick that made my vehicle skid and fall over, trampling the toa of earth in the process. As I got up, Muyia stood in my way. He grabbed me in the throat. “Where do you think you’re going?” he asked. He dropped me, then he powered up his spear and blasted me with elemental power. At first it didn’t do anything, but then I began to feel pain. Then I realized what he was doing. He was turning all my cells into plant cells! I was about to react, when I realized I couldn’t move my arms or anything. Then the pain came. Imagine, you dove into a pool of lava. Now multiply that pain times thirty. That is what this felt like. For the first time ever, I screamed. Chapter 7I awoke in a tent, the next day, and felt very weak. Apparently I had passed out, but when I did Jetus hit Muyia and disrupted him from completing his full effect. She was now sitting at my side, caring to me. She also informed me that the rest of the team had voted to bind me, and also remove my mask and weapons. “But I’m glad to see you alive, so what happened with you and the dark hunters?” she asked. I then told her my story of triumph, and she was appalled. “Why... Why would you do such things?!” Before I could answer, Muyia interupted. "He does it because he is a crazed murderer, and he should be treated like one, sister." I shot a look at him. "Might I suggest we head out soon," said the toa of ice, who I now knew was named Jusaray, "It's going to be dark soon and I would hate to delay.""Wait, why are we leaving, I thought you wanted to sit here and ambush more caravans," I said, my voice full of annoyance and disgust. Muyia laughed, "No, now that we have you, we must complete our destiny: To unite the Matoran and Agori as they should be.""Well look who just jumped on the chute, Mr.kill-him-he's-a-murderer," Jetus shot back. Muyia ignored her."Besides," I said, "How do we know our destiny is to unite the matoran?" Jusaray responded with the weirdest response ever, "Well, according to Levosock, the great spirits who gave him the stones said that 'those who posses the stone, shall unite many, but also destroy all'. This means a couple of things. Firstly that we will unite the matoran and the agori. Secondly one of us *cough* you *cough* *cough* will betray us all and get many people killed.”“A simple ‘Levosock told us so' would have sufficed.....”“So, where do we go first?” Jetus asked“ We should go to toa Umata,” We all turned to look at Turarja, the toa of earth, and Gusta, the toa of fire, who had just entered the tent.“Shut up about Umata, Turarja!” Snapped Muyia.“Hey, he can say whatever he wants!” yelled JetusMuyia got in her face. “Clearly you don’t see who is in charge here.”“Well who made you leader?”“The great spirit of mata nui!”“Yeah right, and just yesterday I had some madu fruit with Artahka.”“Are you mocking me?!”“Yes, yes I am.” “I do not accept this in MY toa team!”“YOUR toa team? Last time I checked I was in the toa magna. You go run your team into the ground but I‘m staying here”“THAT’S IT!!” Muyia lost it, and punched Jetus in the face. While they were talking, I had managed to cut my bonds. When the toa of plant life attacked Jetus, I grabbed my mask, put it on, and lunged at Muyia. I unfurled my claws. “This is for Jetus!” I said, cutting through his back amour plating. He cried out and fell to his knees. “And this is for trying to turn me into shrub!” I hit him in the side of the head, and knocked him out cold. “Now I say that we hear more about this so called toa Umata.”Turarja, obviously frightened, quickly said, “He was a toa who moved to the planet after our universe was destroyed, also he also is a master of prophecy, and weapon making. PLEASE DON’T HURT ME!” I laughed at that last comment.“And according to my calculations,” Jusaray butted in, “Umata is approximately 100 bios to the northwest. I suggest we start heading there now, and see how he can help us.” "How will he help us exactly? I mean, what's he gonna do? Magically unite the matoran and agori?" said Jetus"Well, he's a toa of iron, and a former Nynrah ghost," we all turned to Gusta now. He was a quiet type, and it was weird that he knew this, and even weirder that he talked about it. A toa of iron, Yes he will be most useful.... I thought. "Alright, so We'll set out imeadiatly" I anounced, and as we slowly traveled down the road into the black spike mountains, a plan formulated in my head.... Chapter 8"So, what are all your masks and their powers?" I asked, trying to make small talk but also trying to formulate strategy about how to destroy each toa. ""Elda, detection," Said Jetus"Kulaka, absorption," replied Turarja"Jusak, Intelligence," Jusaray bragged, "Although it is peculiar that it is placed on the back of my head rather than on the front, so it's more of a headdress.""Yuta, fusion," mumbled Gusta."huh, that's why its fused to your face! Well, old team-captain over here has Kualsi, the mask of quick travel," laughed Jetus. Muyia was still unconcious and was being carried on a makeshift gurney."What about you, what's your mask and power?" asked Turaja."Mine?" I replied, "Kahdren, mask of enslavement." After that, an awkward silence fell over the group. We walked all day, then camped at night. Muyia woke up the second day of the journey, and began trying to take lead. After 3 days, we had made it to his fortress. Turaja was VERY excited. "I can't wait to show him my robotic arm!" He said, voice quavering with enthusiasm."Wait, you only have one arm? How did you loose the other?" I asked."Simple!" Said Jusaray, "He never had one in the first place." Turaja nodded in approval. As we aproached the front door, I felt like I was being watched. Of course, number one fan knocked on the door himself. A huge, lumbering brute advanced towards him. He gasped. "This must be one of his guard drones! Um... drone, take us to your master!" The "drone" laughed. "Master? Toa Umata has no master!" Turaja looked dejected. "So, what brings a band of toa to my neck of the woods?" "We seek guidance with our destiny of uniteing the agori and matoran!" replied Muyia."Very well, follow me."His weapon shop and living quarters were both ugly and amazing. He had pieces of machinery and equipment like no other. "So your a Nynrah ghost?" I asked. "Formerly, I went into hiding after Tumaru died.""I take it this Tumaru was a friend?""More than a friend, we were part of a two being toa team, she and I. She was a toa of lighing, and I of course of iron. After the Makuta killed off most of the ghosts, we started hunting them. Untill they set a trap for us... She was killed and I was maimed..." "I'm sorry for your loss," Said Turaja, "by the way, how did you get all this equipment from within the MU?""Well," he said, "I mined it out and made the equipment, also order some of it from Vortixx, and began making weapons. Actually, I didn't realize it at the time, but it was mining right through the MU's outer shell!" They both laughed at that. "So where is your mask? I don't see you wearing any?" Asked Jetus"Ah, well, I incorporated it into my armor, along with a complex computer system, and many other masks and tokens." Turaja butted in, "Hey, Umata, could you explain something to me? My quiet friend Gusta here once decided to dip his hand in energized protodermis, and now his hand is all silver and he has weird powers, can you explain this," Gusta glared at Turaja furiously. "Well, he must just be destined to have it, after all it didn't burn off like it normally should," Almost as an act of revenge, Gusta blurted out "Well...well can you explain why when Turarja became a toa he absorbed some of Muyia's powers!" Muyia looked intently at Turarja. Faintly, his amour looked blue and green. "Ah, must have been destiny. Now you two beings are intertwined, what happens to one, will effect the other." Muyia smiled "Look at that brother, we're intertwined!" "Yeah, like two madu fruit on a branch," Turarja grumbled. I grew annoyed at their friendly banter and began to walk a way, when something, or someone I should say, caught my eye. I walked over to a dark part of the building, where Umata apparently made parts. Then I saw the figure. "Loyal! What are you doing here. " I whispered angrily. Now, for those of you who don't know, Loyal was a Skakdi warrior and when the MU was destroyed, he migrated to Spherus Magna. He then got involved in the glatorian system, and was the first non-bara magnan being ever to be in the arena. In one fierce fight, he got his arm and leg cut off. His opponent was banished, and he was crippled. The Shadowed One took him into his own hands and turned Loyal into his replacement for his right hand man Ancient. He put a device in his brain to transmit anythign he saw or heard directly to the Shadowed One. The Shadowed one could also use his body as kind of a surveillance drone, he could take it over and control it. On top of that, he carried an old Bohderahk staff of loyalty. In all, you didn't want to be on an assignment with Loyal."Oh Just getting info," he said calmly."You idiot! You could get us both exposed!""For what? You betraying the Hunters for some toa team!? The Shadowed one is most unhappy with the current events you are taking place in." "Listen, Shadowed One, I know you are watching, I have a plan. A plan that I need you in on. Tell at least 10, no 100 hunters to meet at the Iron graveyard. I'll figure it out from there."Loyal sighed, "I expected so much more out of you, but very well, I must be on my way." He jumped up the the ceiling, using the rafters to find his way out."Krill, did you hear? Umata is coming with us!" said Jetus, "Isn't this exciting! The two of us, on a journey, together again at last!" I looked at here with contempt in my eyes and walked away. It's a shame I have to kill her I said She could prove useful to the Hunters. Chapter 9Misery. That was the only way to describe traveling down the road. Between Muyia's trying to take lead, Umata's and Turaja's talk about inventions, Jusaray's coldness, Jetus's blind excitement, and Gusta's silence, it was horrible. I was so close to victory over them but yet so far away. As I led the group towards the valley, I told them that we were going to meet up with some of the glatorian at new valcanus. All of them grumbled, as this was a very long journey, but in truth it would be shorter (Iron Graveyard is about 1/4 of the way to the city). Around half way through the "journey of doom", I realized someone was watching us. At first, I thought it was Loyal, but then I realized Loyal didn’t have wings.... or a giant axe. I stopped dead in my tracks. “What’s wrong, brother?” asked Jetus. “He’s just trying to stall, keep going!” Muyia heckled. “No you idiot! We’re being followed!” I yelled. At that moment the figure charged and hit the ground in front of us. We all drew our weapons. “Relax, I’m friendly,” said the being. He appeared to be a drone of some sort, and spoke in a robotic way. It also appeared that his arm was replaced. “Who are you?” Muyia said. “I am Beliu, a member of the Order of Mata Nui and a friend.” Beliu responded. At the name ‘Order of Mata Nui’ I shuddered. They stood for everything we did not. “And what if you’re lying to us, that’s a probability,” said Jusaray. “You dare mess with a makuta?” he responded. Before anyone could react, Umata had charged Beliu and tackled him to the ground. As he beat Beliu, a green mist began to flow out of the cracks in his amour. The makuta screamed. And trust me, you don’t want to know what that sounds like. When we finally pried Umata off of Beliu, the makuta was in bad shape. “That was for my friends, that was for Tumaru!” He yelled. “No.... you don’t understand....” Beliu said weakly. “I’m a Miserx makuta.... I sided with him when Teridax took over.... When my body evolved I faked my own death, I took refuge in a fire drone..... The Order took notice and enlisted me to spy on you....” “Spy on me?” Umata questioned, “I can see though your bluff Beliu, because NO ONE spys on me, and K-67 was definitely not possessed!” “At your service master,” Beliu said, in a voice that resembled a fire drone’s. Umata looked shocked that he knew this. “Your arm,” he said, noticing his left arm, “You.... built the weapon!?” he said in amazement. As it turns out, on Beliu’s left arm was a sonic weapon, utilizing a Kohrak-kal shield. Umata fell to the ground. “What have I done!” he yelled.“Yeah, yeah, yeah..... Drama, Drama, Drama...... Could you please fix me Umata?” said Beliu impatiently, as the green gas started to dissipate. Using his powers over iron, Umata formed his body back into one, and the cloud went back inside. “Thank you, I was starting to worry!” Beliu sighed with relief.“So, he made the sonic weapon? I thought you said that was impossible, Umata” Tararja questioned.“I figured out the quirk,” Beliu responded, “You had to add two more wires to the cooling system so it didn’t over load.”“OOOOOHHHHHH!” the two inventors said. “Well, even though it’s kind of weird that I just found one of my only ‘friends’ ever was also one of my mortal enemies, I think I can forgive 67,” sighed Umata. “So are we going to continue or just stay here and chat?” I said impatiently.“Why do you want to get to New Valcanus so quickly?” Jusaray asked. I had to think quick. “Because.... because one of the sellers at their market had some ancient tablets that could contain more prophecy to tell us how unite the matoran and agori.” They bought it and we continued on. Chapter 10“I’ll go scout ahead, you guys stay here!” I said as we approached the graveyard. It was about a day after we met Beliu, and I was eager to Annihilate the others. True to the Shadowed One’s word, 100 dark hunters were there. Loyal was leading them, along with theif. “So, what’s the plan?” thief asked“Ok, I lead them into the graveyard, you surrond it and kill them, simple?” I saidLoyal looked uneasy, “Easier said then done, a toa of fire, a toa of light, and a water glatorian are here.” Heh, looks like I’ll take out two birds with one stone, I thought to myself. “Kill them too, it makes no difference!” I said, “Now hide, and when I draw my sword, come out,” I saidI bounded back to the group. “Looks like we have company, two toa and a glatorian up ahead.” I reported. The group was excited, as these were the first people they had seen since Beliu. We marched into the graveyard, and the three travelers looked at us quizzicly.“What are you doing here?” the toa of light asked. “Just passing through,” Muyia said.“I don’t believe we have met, allow me to introduce myself: I’m Tahu, this is Takanuva, and that is Kiina.” the toa of fire said. We exchanged pleasantries. “So what brings you here?” Jusaray asked. “Kiina was just telling us about this grave site.” Said Takanuva.“Of course, it was an iron tribe village untill they were wiped out by the dreaming plague. Of course, we now know that it really wasn’t a plague, but still it was deadly.” Jusaray babbled. I grew anxious. Knowing that I was so close to destroying my biggest threats I almost couldn’t wait. As they continued talking, I slowly backed away, and when I was far enough, drew my sword. When they heard it drawn, all the hunters rose up out of hiding and took aim at the group. “What the!?” Kiina yelled. The group was stunned. “I told you we shouldn’t have brought him along, it’s all your fault1 Jetus!” Muyia said franticly.“We’ll have time for blaming later, now we fight!” quipped Tahu.“Would you all just shut up already!” I said, obviously annoyed, “look, I’ll make this simple: you can accept your fate, or you can try to fight it. If you run, you will die. If you stay, you will die.”“So, if we do anything we will die?” asked Umata.“That’s the idea,” I replied “Now charge!”And thus began, one of the biggest battles in all of Spherus Magna’s history... Chapter 11In all honesty, what happened next, is blurred in my mind. The Dark Hunters stormed in at my command, and proceeded to attack the group in a multitude of ways. Loyal took on Tahu, and I took on Kiina." I knew you were the one who attacked Tarix! I knew it!" She yelled, blasting me with water. I dodged her attack and sliced at her with my sword. She parried it with her trident, which was an amazingly strong weapon, and tried to shoot me with her thornax launcher. I ducked under it, flipped over her, and stabbed her with the small dagger on the but of my blade. She screamed in pain, and fell to the ground. Not quite dead, but very close to it. I then used my jetpack to survey the battle field, and I was not happily surprised. The toa were beating back my hunters. I noticed loyal move in to attack Beliu. He sneered at him, and tried to attack him with his mind control vision and his staff of loyalty. Being a makuta, they were in effective against him. Suddenly, Beliu fell to the ground. Loyal laughed for a while, and then a look of sheer agony cave over his face. He dropped his weapons and yelled for mercy. At that moment, I realized what had happened. Beliu had left his body, and since Loyal's mind is mostly mechanic, manifested in his brain and started to drive him insane. His replacement arm and leg began to twitch. Finally, he couldn't take it anymore. He reached for his staff, and painstakingly, shoved it into his chest, effectively killing himself. It was gruesome to watch. It was a bitter sweet moment when I watched that dark green gas go back into the drone body. Meanwhile, Thief had taken no notice of what had happened to loyal, and was brutally assaulting Tahu, who used his mask of shielding to block, then tried to slow him down with balls of flame. He eventually got tired, and Thief went in for the kill. He hit him in the shoulder with one of his throwing knives, and disarmed him by stabbing his arm with a wrist mounted blade. Tahu throbbed in pain, and punched thief in the face. He stumbled back as Tahu grabbed his sword, and fell back to Takanuva. I then turned my attention on Muyia. Although he probably wasn't the biggest (or brightest) of threats, he was a real thorn in my side. It's time I had that thorn removed I said to myself. I landed on the ground, and threw a shadow blast at him, and went in for the kill. I shot dark matter at him and tried to slash him with my sword. He blocked with his shield, and launched his elemental powers at me. I countered with my own. "You idiot! You were supposed to help us!" he yelled "You were the sixth member! You betrayed us!" Now, I don't mind a fool, but a naive fool? I despise them. I replied, "You idiot! I was never on your side!" and launched more dark matter at him. It hit his armor, and he crumpled as it dissipated. After that I heard Jetus yell, "NOW!!" And an explosion of light hit me. It felt as if my armor was being ripped off, and reassembled again. I would have screamed, but I couldn't. It was my worst nightmare, even worse then the time I dreamed that a Muaka ate me, then spit me out, then ate me again five times. All I could see was light. After that, I went unconscious..... Epilogue"Bearer!? Are you ok?!" Those were the first words I heard after I woke up. Thief shook me awake. "What happened?" I asked him. "Takanuva hit you with a blast of light, you look different, but no time to waste, the hunters are retreating. We've lost this one, let's get out of here." As I got up, I felt different. My body looked green, and I felt like I could fly. As thief helped me hobble off, Muyia crept in from behind. "Look out!" Shouted thief, but it was too late. In a fit of anger, Muyia had tried to stab me, but Thief shielded me, and took the brunt of the blow. I watched as Muyia's spear impaled itself into my friend. "NO!" yelled Tahu, running over to assist me in trying to assist me in reviving thief. "It's not the toa way brother!" We tried and tried and tried, but it didn't work. Thief was dead. Anger arose in me. I lashed out at Muyia with my launcher, only to find that instead of firing dark matter, all it fired was air. "What in the Spirit-Great is this!" I yelled. At that moment, I clamped my mouth shut. Along with my transformation back into a toa of air, I had also reverted back to tree-speech. Yeah. "I just got back from contacting Hylryx. She said she wants to take Krill in for questioning about the Hunters' activities.""Well, can we just ask him ourselves?" asked Jetus."No, she wants to do an official investigation into the attack, and his motives." he replied, and immediately they bound me, and started to transport to the base. Of course, when events as such listed happen, anger grows. When anger and time come together, they form planning. Planning turns into scheming, scheming into doing. And of course, while I was incarcerated and waiting to be interrogated and released, I had all those things happen. Looking back, it was a simple plan, and I am very proud of it. I will show them, I said to myself, They think they know war? I will give them war BEYOND imagination.... Anyone who finds this must already know what that plan is, so no need to waste my time here. Anyways, the plan will be completed in good time. All in good time.....
  23. So, while I waited patiently for my girlfriend to get out of the shower today, staring longingly at my dresser from the edge of my bed, with nothing really on my mind, a thought occurred to me, as I presume I caught a glimpse of the Dark Hunters guide book on my floor out of the corner of my eye, though I'm not truly sure if that spawned this idea: what if there were a Dark Hunter video game? Now I know, I know, there's a 99.99999% chance that what I'm talking about is pointless and dumb and I should just stop right now, but I need to get this out there, and who knows, maybe some day, in the future, when Star Trek and Bionicle are once again at their strongest, someone will stumble across an ancient artifact called a "computer" with a cable hooked up to the "internet," find this forum, and maybe, just maybe, come across this topic and implement it. My idea is sort of wibbly-wobbly, and involves either the player taking control of a particular Dark Hunter (unnamed or otherwise), or perhaps several of them over the period of gameplay. Most likely, the game would follow courses set by games such as Dishonored, being a first-person (occasionally) stealth-based game. Players would assume control of their character, and do everything from debt collection, to intimidation, to assassinations, and more. Most likely, the game would be rated Teen (in the U.S.) due to animated/simulated blood (perhaps, although this could be omitted) and violence. I feel like taking control of Lariska, who is a master assassin, apparently, could be nice. A section of the game would also take place during the Toa/Dark Hunter War, and maybe even the Makuta/Dark Hunter War, to give a broad sense of the game. Even playing as the Piraka from time to time would grant some fun and mischief. All in all, I think there is a lot of potential for the Dark Hunters that's never really been tapped, despite the fact that it's right there. What are your guys' opinions, and do you think it could ever be done? ~Tobi
  24. Yet another comedy of mine being taken out of the mothballs, so to speak. Here is the link to the old topic. Chapter 4: Budget Cuts On the island of Daxia, in the Order of Mata Nui headquarters, Helryx sat in her comfortably heated chambers, pouring over a pile of tablets two feet high. Being head of the Order of Mata Nui had its perks, hence said comfortably heated chambers, but it also entailed an enormous amount of tablet work. Helryx's desk phone buzzed, and she picked it up, saying, "Yes, Claire?" Her secretary was on the other end, and she said, "Mr. Naad is here to talk to you about the budget, Helryx. He says it's important." Helryx groaned in exhaustion, and said, "Alright, send him in." Naad came in through the wooden double doors of Helryx's chambers, carrying a brief case. Naad was a tall, green armored being with a Great Kanohi Rau, the mask of translation. He said to her, "Good evening, Ms. Helryx. How are you today?" "As fine as can be, what with our little Destiny War going on," said Helrxy, peering past the stack of tablets on her desk. "What can I do for you, Mr. Naad?" "A word on the budget," said Naad, taking a seat in a chair in front of Helryx's desk. "Accounting just finished our most recent audit, and found that our current budget for the surveillance division greatly exceeds the budget for all other departments." "Of course," said Helryx. "We're the Order of Mata Nui. Surveillance is our primary function." "I understand that," said Naad, pulling a tablet out of his briefcase. "But the board made it clear to me that they think that when planning for the coming fiscal year, we ought to consider reallocating resources to other departments, such as R&D." Helryx examined the figures carved into the tablet, and set it down, saying, "Alright. How did the board vote on this proposal?" "It was a vote of nine for, three against," said Naad. "The board is hard set on trimming the fat, as it were." Helryx rested her elbows on the desk, holding her chin in her hands. She said, "Alright, I understand. I approve the board's decision. Good night, Mr. Naad." "Good night, Ms. Helryx," said Naad. He took up his brief case and went out the door, thinking, This briefcase could be used as an exercise weight. Stupid tablets. With luck, this new budget should bring us more paper to use. After Naad had left, Helryx took the phone from her desk and said, "Claire? Get me board member Jend on the line." "Yes, ma'am. Just a moment," responded Claire. There was a moment of silence, before another voice came on with a click, saying, "Jend here." "Mr. Jend, this is Helryx," said the Toa of water. "Since when is the board allowed to convene without my knowledge?" "Well, it's clearly written in the bylaws-" "Bother the bylaws. Naad was just in my office, and he told me that the board just voted on next year's budget, which involved heavy reallocation of resources from the Surveillance department. Who was the muffin head who wrote up that proposal?" There was a brief silence, and Jend said, "That... muffin head.... would be me, ma'am." "Oh. Well, in that case, I'd like you to know that my recommendation is to convene the board for an emergency meeting to discuss the budget. From what I understand, the new budget for the surveillance department is just over nine thousand widgets." "That's nine million, ma'am." "Really? Darn dyslexia. Well, anyhow, I want to meet with the board pronto to discuss this. I'm not the director of the Order of Mata Nui for nothing!" * * * Several days later, on the island of Nynrah, Order of Mata Nui agents Trinuma and Joe were on a stake out of the Brotherhood of Makuta building on that island. Trinuma could barely fit in the car, his knees scrunched up to his chin. Joe had a little easier time of it, being smaller, and kept a sharp eye on the building's entrance. Their objective? To keep an eye on the area and to report any activity of interest. Joe was using his binoculars to watch various people going in and out of the building. Unfortunately, it was night out, so he couldn't see much of anything. "Drat this device," he said. "Just a few weeks ago, we would have had a decent car and a pair of night vision goggles. Now all we've got is a junked up Dodge, a pair of binoculars from the Fourth Street Second Hand store, and some stale doughnuts." "Don't forget the kanoka disk launchers," said Trinuma, feeling just as grumpy as Joe was. "Man, I used to have a pair of ghost blasters, and now all I've got are these disk launchers! They're soooo 2004." "You said it," said Joe, peering into the darkness. They were currently parked in the parking lot of the McKyry's across the street from the Brotherhood of Makuta building. He reached down into the darkness of the van and pulled up the doughnut box, and said to his partner, "Want a doughnut?" "No thanks. They're too fattening." "Can we even gain weight? We're robots, right?" "Biomechanical beings, Joe. Wait, what's that?" Joe lifted up his binoculars and saw two Matoran walking out of the building. "What do you think they're up to?" asked Joe. "I mean, this late at night and all." Trinuma buckled his seat belt and said to Joe, "I say we follow them. They might be running some top secret errand for the Brotherhood." "You've been watching too much Law and Order," said Joe. "The Brotherhood doesn't assign important tasks to mere Matoran." "We'll see," said Trinuma. "We'll see." * * * Katax and Praket walked down the street to Praket's car, silent. "I can't believe your boss wanted us to meet with this organization," said Katax. "I know, right?" said Praket, opening the door to his car. "It's all about PR, though. The average Matoran is scared of the Brotherhood, so the higher ups wanted to show that we care a little about their well being." "That's... somewhat comforting," said Katax as he got in the front seat. "But I take it they don't want the masses to know just yet, do they?" "Exactly," said Praket, starting the car's engine. "That's why we have to meet them at night, just in case it goes bad, you know?" "Yes, sir," said Katax, buckling his seat belt. If there was one thing he had learned while working for the Brotherhood of Makuta, it was to always agree with the boss. The two drove downtown to a dilapidated parking garage, where they parked on the third floor. They got out of Praket's Prius, and approached a white van. About a quarter of the way there, the doors of the van opened, and two Matoran, a Toa, and a Turaga got out. They met halfway between their respective vehicles. "I'm Turaga Smith," said the Turaga, a Turaga of Stone. "And these are my fellow representatives from the Letty Gord Center for Toa. I see you got our message." "We did," said Praket coolly, which was ironic, as he was a Ta-Matoran. "We are here to accept your request for Brotherhood support. In the interest of PR, our boss said yes. All you have to do is sign some tablets, and it should be fine." "Yes, sir," said the Toa of Ice. "We'll send a Matoran representative down to do that. You can even start organizing the press release." He stuck out his hand to shake with Praket, who reciprocated by offering his own hand. "It's a done deal," declared the Ta-Matoran. "We'll be able to organize a public announcement soon." Little did these meeting persons know, however, that just across the street, Trinuma and Joe sat listening with their state of the art eavesdropping device. After the meeting was over, and the two parties went their separate ways, Trinuma said to Joe, "You thinking what I'm thinking?" "What are you thinking?" said Joe, confused. "I'm thinking," said Trinuma, "That we ought to report this to the boss." "I'm thinking the same thing," said Joe. To be continued... X-Ray
