  1. Lhultiren Moc built for a Great Beings collab, this creature is based on the Flatwoods monster. It's a very simple build, I used the curved red panel to create the classic Flatwoods monster head, apart from the axles and technic connectors it's completely built with only system pieces. For the yellowish robe I used the Vidiyo rubber handle piece. 01/04/22
  2. So, Greg having revealed in his Q/A topic that the Great Beings are actually of the Glatorian species (which, for me at least, was a massive disappointment), I began wondering what set the two groups, meaning the regular inferior Glatorian and the Great Beings, apart. It is clear that not every Glatorian is on the level of the Great Beings, since if that were the case the whole pre-MU story as well as the 2009-2010 story would have been infinitely different. None of the Glatorian we meet in the story ever display a particularly high level of intelligence, definitely not on the level of the GBs (since they are wallowing in dirt and sand, after all). So, what, are the GBs a genetic 1% who were born with a mutation that made them significantly smarter? Were they bred that way? Was it eugenics? Cybernetic modification? Are they simply the "übermensch" equivalent of the Glatorian? Maybe they are a separate tribe of a different "element" (many elements in Bionicle aren't actual elements, hence air-quotes), like Knowledge or something? Are they a completely distinct sub-species with several different traits setting them apart from the more common Glatorian archetype? Honestly, I really think making the GBs Glatorian was a bad, bad idea. It completely takes away the air of mystery about them that made them enigmatic and interesting. Now they're just Glatorian nerds instead of these mythic, incomprehensible beings. What do you all think?
  3. Can the Great Beings wear and use Kanohi? (clearly this question is an act of desperation)

Chapters will be posted weekly until I finish writing the story. After that point, they will be posted every 48 hours. Please let me know how the character representations work out for you. And the usual comments, criticism, and everything else welcome.
  5. I don't know how close this runs to being against guidelines, but as long as everyone else is cool with their comments, I think it should work out. OK: so the protectors went to the Temple of Time, and presumably using the Mask of Time or something, send their "prayers to the heavens". G2's protectors "prayer" could be a few things: 1) Just a euphemism- maybe it's just their hopes their sending to the heavens -- "prayers" just being a symbol of that? 2) There's someone up there! That lightning-bolt/laser that shot into space may have been carrying a message- perhaps another as-of-yet unknown character who organized the Toa and shot them to Okoto. A G2 equivalent of a Great Being, or GSR perhaps? 3) The communication was to the Toa themselves, to come and save Okoto- Which of course begs the question of where they were in space to begin with- and were they conscious enough to get it? Thus, was coming to Okoto a conscious decision the Toa made, or was it another unconscious-in-the-canister-and-it-just-got-launched-automatically scenario? And, if conscious, what were they doing on the world(s) they came from? Geez, just one line in an internet cartoon gives ya a lot to think about, huh?
  6. I'm sure that at least 100% of us have heard about the canceled tenth graphic novel made by Papercutz, the Power of the Great Beings. It has been stated that this novel would have gone more into depth about Mata Nui's journey into the Valley of the Maze, his path to self-discovery and the assembling of the Prototype Robot before the eventual reformation of Spherus Magna. This cancelation was made even more tragic when all we got out of the Valley of the Maze series was a short comic included with the LEGO Club magazine which glossed over... what? Everything? There is so much that could have been explored beyond the Valley of the Maze story arc, such as the elaborated-on origins of the Baterra, the construction of the Great Spirit Robot and more on what happened after the Shattering. So, my question is: What did you want to see in this novel?
  7. Story by Jack-The-Writer Cover and Other Artwork by Saronicle Review Topic Prologue Gathered friends, listen again to our legend of the Bionicle. In the time before time, the Great Spirit descended from the heavens, carrying we, the ones called the Matoran, to an island paradise, illuminating us with the three virtues: unity, duty, and destiny. We embraced these gifts, and in gratitude, named our island home Mata Nui, after the Great Spirit himself. However, all was not well. Mata Nui’s brother, the Makuta, betrayed Mata Nui, casting him into a deep slumber. Makuta unleashed his shadows across the island, and all seemed lost. But all hope was not lost, for legends foretold of six mighty heroes, Toa, who would vanquish the evil Makuta and his shadows, and awaken Mata Nui: Gali, Toa of Water. Tahu, Toa of Fire. Kopaka, Toa of Ice. Onua, Toa of Earth. Pohatu, Toa of Stone. Lewa, Toa of Air. And they were victorious, defeating the evil Makuta and all the terrible menaces he unleashed. Makuta unleashed the Rahi, and the Toa found the Masks of Power, defeating the Makuta and saving the Matoran. Then the Makuta unleashed the Bohrok, and the Toa united to defeat their leaders, the Bahrag, gaining new and greater power, becoming Toa Nuva. With these new powers, they were able to combat more dangerous threats, like the Bohrok-Kal, and Makuta’s sons, the Rahkshi. Then, the Mask of Light was discovered, and Takanuva, the Toa of Light, appeared, defeating Makuta and reopening the way to the ancient home of the Matoran: Metru Nui, where, long ago, another team of Toa rescued the Matoran after the Makuta’s betrayal, despite being branded fugitives and being turned into monstrous versions of themselves by the Visorak. After the return to Metru Nui, Mata Nui’s life was discovered to be in danger, and with this new danger, new heroes arose. Six Matoran from Metru Nui journeyed to the dangerous island of Voya Nui to find the legendary Mask of Life, becoming Toa to fulfill their destiny. After braving the trials to reach the mask, they defeated the nefarious Piraka, only for the mask to plunge down into the depths of the sea. Despite, nothing would stop the Toa. They descended deep into the dark ocean, transformed into Toa Mahri, and fought the Barraki, imprisoned warlords, and Toa Matoro sacrificed himself in order to save the Greast Spirit’s life. The Toa Nuva descended into Karda Nui, the core of the universe, in order to fulfill their destiny and awaken Mata Nui. There they met with resistance from the Brotherhood of Makuta’s highest ranks. With the aid of the Mask of Life itself, the Makuta were defeated and Mata Nui awoken. But all was not as it seemed, for the Makuta’s plan had succeeded. While Mata Nui was dead, his mind had slipped in and taken the place of Mata Nui’s, making Makuta the ruler of a universe. He exiled Mata Nui, imprisoning him in the Mask of Life and banishing him from the universe. The Mask of Life drifted through space before crashing on the world of Bara Magna. He fashioned himself a body, and worked with the Agori and Glatorian, the inhabitants of the planet, to attempt to find his way back to his people. While there, he freed the Agori and Glatorian from the tyranny of the Skrall, and discovered a prototype robot built by the Great Beings, which had become buried in the sands of Bara Magna over a hundred millennia. Traveling north, he entered the Valley of the Maze to retrieve the power source for the robot. Mata Nui placed his consciousness into the robot and activated it, hoping to use it to combat the Makuta. But Makuta was aware of Mata Nui’s doings, and flew to Bara Magna to confront his brother. What ensued was a great battle as the once-brothers fought. Makuta released Rahkshi and legions of Skakdi onto the surface of Bara Magna to destroy the Agori and Glatorian, but the Toa managed to escape the universe as well, and Tahu used the legendary golden armor to defeat the Rahkshi. The Rahkshi’s destruction gave Mata Nui an opening, and he pushed Teridax into the path of Aqua Magna, a moon of Bara Magna returning to its original position, killing him instantly. With Teridax defeated, Mata Nui fulfilled his destiny, and used the last of the robot’s energy to reform Spherus Magna. His destiny fulfilled, he retreated into the Mask of Life, leaving the Matoran, Toa, Agori, and Glatorian with a last request: find the Great Beings. But that task would not be as simple as it appeared. Teridax may have been dead, but new evil would follow in his wake. And it did; three evils moved across the land: one, bent on destruction, one bent on subjugation, one with motives unknown. Now comes the time when all, Matoran and Agori, Toa and Glatorian, must work together or be defeated. The time has come for our heroes to face the ultimate test.
  8. Pretty shortly after Christian Faber posted this video documenting concepts for the original Voodoo Heads that eventually became BIONICLE, someone threw up a topic on Eurobricks offering brick-built versions of the iconic heads. GK733 took the idea and ran with it, using a modified version of one of the heads in this awesome MoC that he dubbed a Great Being. That really fueled my imagination, and now I've built up something of my own based on his design. As you can see, the core of the designs are taken straight from GK733's MoC. What I did was switch things up to bring in more of the Voodoo Head aesthetic. The heads are also completely custom - I feel like the Islanders theme had a strong influence on BIONICLE's earliest conceptual art direction, and made Papu and Rangi to be siblings to Kahuka in design. Together Rangi Side Back Head Papu Side Back Head For those who don't know, Papu and Rangi are easily the most mysterious of BIONICLE characters. Their names are derived from the Mother and Father gods of Maori, Ranginui and Papatuanuku, which is more than likely why they only appear in passing conversation in the Mata Nui online game - once the Maori lawsuit hit LEGO realized they needed to cover up the evidence they were actually using Maori gods in their story fast and had the only places they had appeared thus far, those vague mentions in Mata Nui, struck from the record. I personally believe that they were conceived as the original Great Beings of the BIONICLE mythos, to later be replaced by what we got. Either way, they were definitely god-tier - Nokama speaks of how they plan the fates and Jala says that they named Ta-Koro as the village of fire. Papu is the blue one - I envisioned her as the warrior of the two and gave her a more dynamic pose to convey that. Rangi is the balancing avatar of knowledge, taking a more hunched and wizened stance. Their attributes are reflected in the Toa Kaita - Akamai of Valor, and Wairuha of Wisdom. Sorry the photos are only okay, I don't have much to work with. Oh! And while we're here, here's another thing I made.
  9. This this took way too long to complete, glad it's finished, though. And yes, the text does say something. Drawn completely in photoshop. I've always loved the science fiction aspect that the later story of Bionicle took on, and with the up and coming generation, I suppose this could be thought as homage to the story we had before. (Clicky for the link, warning, file is over 9 mb in size.) And here's a version without the text. C&C appreciated.
  10. Hey everybody. It's good to finally post something after lurking for so long. But anyways... What did the first Toa, created by the Great Beings ~100,000 years ago, look like? The earliest Toa to come into being that we have seen in set form were the Toa Mata; however, they might be considered an exception because they were created by Artahka, not the GBs. In addition, when Matoran become Toa, they take on the appearence of what they think a Toa should look like. So Lhikan and the Toa Metru are also irrelevant. The only sets we are left as with are the Inika, Mahri, Lesovikk, Jovan, Adaptive Armor Nuva, and Glatorian. We also have a text description of Helryx and, perhaps most valuable, a canon depiction of Nikila. Let us begin with Helryx, the first Toa ever created. In Swamp Of Secrets it says: This doesn't tell us much, given that most of the description is dedicated to her fraility. However, the last sentence does tell us something: she does not look like the Toa Mata, at least to Takanuva. (Sadly, this means that the beautiful depiction of her by GarryTheSkrall may be non-canon. ) So what about the Inika and Mahri? They were not transformed, as normally, by Toa Stones containing Toa Energy but by the power of the Red Star. The result looked nothing like the Toa Mata or Nuva. This, I theorize, is because the Red Star was transforming them to match built-in blueprints, which would have been supplied by the Great Beings. This implies that the Inika build is at least similar to the design of the original Toa. Do other sources support this theory? Let's see: -Helyrx's description isn't very specific, but it suggests a build unlike any Takanuva had seen. Takanuva never saw the Inika, so she could have had an Inika build. -The Mahri were transformed by the Ignika and had similar build as the Inika, but with water gear. The Ignika would have built-in blueprints of Toa, supplied by the GBs, and made the Mahri similar to these. -Lesovikk was mutated, but if we assume the mutations were minor (and they appear to be) he would have had an Inika build before. -Jovan, another early Toa, had an Inika build and may or may not have been transformed by a Toa Stone. -The Nuva, in Adaptive Armor, had Inika designs. (The usefulness of this is debatable. Is it reasonable to asume that the AA is designed to fit most Toa, and would therefore have to share the lowest common denominator of design - an Inika build? ) -Glatorian are known to have been the inspiration for Toa, and featured the Inika build. The final piece of evidence is the drawing of Nikila. Since Nikila is an unmutated Toa from the early MU, presumably transformed by a Toa Stone or even created by the GBs themselves, she is an exceptionally accurate image of a typical early Toa. And indeed, she matches quite closely the Inika build: note that upper leg armor looks similar to that of Pohatu Phantoka or Gresh, and the upper arm armor (arm-or? ) looks similar to Inika upper arm protection or that of Tarix. So, with no canon contradictions (that I have noticed), I present my final theory: The form of the original Toa, those created ~100,000 years ago by the Great Beings, is the Inika build. (Now all the Inika build haters can blanch at the disgusting thought of every Toa everywhere with the Inika build for thousands of years of MU history .) Anything I missed? I'm new here, so when you rip me apart, go easy . EDIT: Removed incorrect statement about the Toa Mata's deterioration. Oops.
  11. As a pure genwunner who is against this idea of a 100% reboot, obviously I yearn for more Gen 1 elements in Gen 2 Bionicle. But what's to say it won't happen? LEGO stated in their meeting in BZPower's video that they wanted to dumb down the names so younger fans can more easily understand, meaning species like Matoran, Skakdi, Vortixx and Skrall are no more. But there are a few elements of Gen 1 that can still work despite this: Dark Hunters The ultimate example of Gen 1 elements that can transition seamlessly into Gen 2 are the Dark Hunters. The name "Dark Hunters" is perfect for the new naming system used in Gen 2 Bionicle, the name "The Shadowed One" is both mysterious and fitting for Gen 2, and nearly all Dark Hunters have English code names (though there's no way we'll see Gen 1 characters that don't, such as Triglax and Lariska). When I was hoping for a continuation, I argued that The Shadowed One would be the perfect new main villain because of his hidden name, and his organisation, and I can see both returning in Gen 2 Bionicle as alternate villains. Bionicle has had alternate villains before and lasted 9 years doing so (Dark Hunters, Barraki, Skrall), and other successful franchises had multiple main villains (eg. Batman had the Joker and the Riddler, and Spiderman had Goblin and Doc Oc), so why not do it again now? Great Beings The Great Beings could be deities or demigods (or even Gods) in Gen 2 Bionicle. In fact I feel Ekimu and Makuta could be Great Beings. Okay, so Gen 1 Great Beings can't wear masks, but what's stopping Gen 2 Great Beings (if they exist) from being able to do so? Remember, this is a reboot, so LEGO can easily redesign the Great Beings as they see fit. Great Spirits Again with the idea of redesigning past elements, Gen 2 Bionicle could have Gods known as Great Spirits who could be worshipped as Mata Nui was (and be actual spirits rather than 40,000,000' tall robots).
  12. Can the Great Beings wear and use Kanohi? (clearly this question is an act of desperation)
  13. Hello! I'm Vesok, and I joined this wonderful community today after lurking for a while. I've had this headcanon for a while, and wanted to share it with you guys as the more i thought about it, the more it presented itself to me as likely. I believe that the Great Beings are meant to symbolize humans who build with Bionicle. Think about it. They are humanoid. They have no elemental power that we know of. And they build humanoid robots in a variety of sizes. So what do you guys think?
  14. So, recently I've been thinking about the Kestora and what they do, and I became curious regarding their origin and nature. Frankly, we know little about them, and here are the facts we know so far, according to BS01: Sapient species created by the GBsPurple and black armor (irrelevant info really)Wear Kanohi masks but cannot access the powerNo powers2 populationsCity of Silver DimensionRed StarBoth populations seem to have little regard for other lifeformsCoSD Kestora invade a city and laugh at Takanuva's faceRS Kestora are "morbidly curious" and have no problems dissecting MU beings Now, that I laid out some of the facts regarding Kestora, I would like to to present you my 3 hypothesis, which might have little evidence, but do seem to follow a pattern. Hypothesis #1: The Kestora were based on the Bone Hunters. Now, I know this sounds weird, but this is what I have in mind: the GBs seemed to base most of the species they created in the MU on an already existing species on Spherus Magna. Matoran and Toa are examples of species that the GBs created to inhabit Mata Nui. Also, while they didn't directly create the Bohrok, they surely impacted their inception and based their form on a former creation, the Baterra. Based on this, I think that the Great Beings wanted to create hardy, resilient, diminutive creatures that would be more aggressive, morbid, and able to perform the "dirtiest" job in the Universe. Since the Bone Hunters have a culture of piracy and "survival of the fittest" ideology, the GBs decided to base their morticians/undertakers (for a lack of better word) on this violent race on Spherus Magna. Hypothesis #1.5: The Kestora were based on the Skrall This one is a bit more far-fetched. Most of the reasons I gave for Kestora being based on the Bone Hunters applies to the Skrall: both species are violent, militaristic, xenophobic, etc. However, the Skrall come in as candidates as their culture is much more... "swarmish" as the workers pretty much do whatever for the greater "good". Hypothesis #2: The Kestora are Matoran prototypes. This one is my personal favorite. So lets begin. First of all, the Kestora wear masks and seem to look similar to Matoran, however they are powerless much like the Agori which they were based off of. The idea that they came before the Matoran and are their forefathers also comes from the fact that the GBs creations tend to be quite violent. Helryx, Orde, Karzahni, Zyglak (even if they were and accident), Fire Emblem, Tren Krom were all very... Cold, and seemed to have hot tempers. The Kestora are this way as well. They don't care for other life forms, and are purely focused on their tasks. My idea is that the GBs saw this, they noticed how violent and brutal this things were when they first activated them, so they decided to shove some of the population in a pocket dimension, and used the rest for a morbid task that would fit their nature. Another reason they might have abandoned them in favor for the Matoran might be due to their absentmindedness. References: BS01 (Kestora, Great Beings, Toa, Matoran, Agori, Glatorian, Skrall, Baterra, Red Star) Please read the evidence I provided for the hypothesis you wish to respond to, but if tl;dr is your case, here's the summary: #1: Kestora are based on Bone Hunters cuz they're both violent little creatures. #1.5: Kestora are based on Skrall due to the shared swarm-like mentality. #2: Kestora are Matoran prototypes and were originally based on Agori, but were replaced by Matoran as they were too morbid/violent/aggressive. Thanks for reading.
  15. Welcome to the tenth and final installment of my new series of Bionicle flash fics, The Biological Chronicle. If you want to read the other stories in this series, you can find links to them in my signature at the end of this post. If you don't know what this is, allow me to quote from the first fic's introduction: With that out of the way, enjoy: 2010 “What do we do if the Makuta go astray?” The Great Being known as Angonce looked up from his workbench at his fellow Great Being, Velika. A half-finished mask lay on the table before him, but Angonce didn't pay much attention to it, distracted as he was by his brother's question. “Why would that ever happen, Velika?” said Angonce. “The Makuta are supposed to aid Mata Nui. They would never even think of rebelling against him.” “You said the same thing about the Element Lords,” Velika pointed out. “And we both know how well that turned out.” Angonce sighed and put down his mask-making tools. “All right. What do you suggest we do?” “We need to design a weapon that can combat the Makuta,” said Velika. “Something that can destroy solid antidermis quickly and efficiently.” Angonce quirked an eyebrow. “A bomb of some sort?” “No,” said Velika, shaking his head. He was clearly deep in thought now, like he always got whenever he was on a roll. “There would always be the danger of the bomb being set off too early and thus failing to destroy any antidermis at all. We need something better. But what?” Angonce thought about that for a moment. He glanced at the mask on his table, which was colored gold, and an idea occurred to him. “Maybe a set of golden armor?” Velika looked at Angonce in surprise. “Golden armor?” “Yes,” said Angonce, nodding. “Golden armor that can instantly destroy all solid antidermis within its vicinity. Not only that, but it could also absorb all the powers of the Makuta that are killed.” Now it was Velika's turn to quirk an eyebrow. “And why would that be necessary? It sounds to me like it would only make the user go mad with power.” “Not if the user is a Toa,” said Angonce. “One of the Toa Mata, perhaps the leader, Toa Tahu. As for why it would be necessary . . . well, I just thought what a shame it would be to lose all of our work if the user of the golden armor managed to destroy all the Makuta. At least we can save the powers, if nothing else.” “Yes,” said Velika, though he did not sound entirely convinced by that. “Yes, of course. But where would we keep the golden armor? After all, while it may never be used, we don't want to put it where anyone could get their hands on it, at least not easily.” Angonce stroked his chin and looked at the half-finished mask before him. Then an idea struck him like lightning. “I know,” said Angonce. “We can put it inside the Mask of Life. After all, we already plan to put the Ignika out of the reach of most beings. Not even the Makuta will be able to get it if we do that.” Velika smiled. “I like your way of thinking, brother. Let's get to it.” - And that's a wrap (unless Bionicle comes back next year, in which case I might write The Biological Chronicle: 2015 as the real finale, but we'll see what will happen, I suppose). Comments, criticism, questions, etc. are all welcome . -TNTOS-
  16. I'm starting work on a BIONICLE reboot-style saga focusing on the aftermath of the return of Vultraz to the main dimension, and I need a bit of help getting some facts straight about Annona and the Melding Universe in general. So here they are: 1. Does Annona exist in the Melding alternate universe? 2. Does Annona have telekinetic powers like Toa of Psionics, or are her psionic abilities limited to telepathy? 3. Do any Olmaks exist in the Melding Universe? These questions (Especially the Olmak question) are basically what the whole plausibility of my saga hinges on, so these are slightly important. All thoughts are welcome! -Miras
  17. Did the Great Beings put it on there in case Mata Nui showed up? Did some ancient Skrall map the place? And why did the Skrall stick with the design? It's a rather eccentric design for a sheild, and probably costly to make. What significance would it have for them?
  18. After Mata Nui's destiny of Reformation was revealed and completed, a niggling question began to develop itself in my mind, and no one seems to have commented about it so I may as well do it. Not to mention some related, irritated plot comments/questions that will drag out for ages after the main point (sorry). I'll begin by asking you to place yourself in the shoes of the Great Beings during the Core War. *Dramatic Narrator voice * The mysterious, powerful substance, Energised Protodermis, has been discovered oozing from deep within Spherus Magna's core, possessing properties the likes of which even your hyper-advanced race has never encountered (even though you’ve lived on the planet for thousands of years apparently you never actually bothered to find out what is under its crust). What's worst, the people of the planet have begun warring over it, in a ferocious, planet-wide conflict. Although you try diplomacy in order to quell the fighting, you always fail, and the very Element Lords that you created to help lead the planet’s people are at the forefront of the Core War’s continuity. Amongst the violence to which you are impartial, you begin investigating the substance’s nature. Your experiments find Energized Protodermis is extremely volatile and unbelievably energetic, and that if much more leaks to the surface through mean of extraction, it could (somehow) lead to the entire planet literally blowing itself apart. Such an event would cause death on a scale of billions (no idea on what the population actually is but needed a dramatic number). And, as the war progresses, you see this is now a virtually inevitable fate. As retired rulers and (sort of) patrons of this world, you begin planning for the worst. From the very substance around which the war orbits, you begin constructing a salvation of unimaginable scale: The Mata Nui Robot. What does this pinnacle of engineering and technology do? It saves everyone by being a giant space ark that can easily carry vast populations around to other habitable planets? LUL NOPE *Initiate horrific punctuation due to the following resembling serendipitous thought chains. It fixes the planet! (Whose pieces don’t realign under gravity anyways because plot. (Not to mention, how the Karz does anyone survive being on a planet that blows apart? Surely that much force would flatten you if you were on Bota Magna for example, right? How does the atmosphere stay intact?)) So there it is: Why didn’t the GBs try and save anyone but themselves (BS01 says they left Spherus Magna, presumably to another habitable planet)? Why bother going to the trouble of fixing your planet after everyone’s dead when you could save everyone before it happens, take some EP with you for further experimentation and just move to another planet? Were they so angry with the fact the Core War happened that they condemned ENTIRE RACES to death or a horrible life wandering barren deserts? Because judging by Mata Nui’s job it seems more like the cared about the planet rather than its people. Are they really that cold? If the MU project was to collect data to know how to fix Spherus Magna, that would suggest that there might be other worlds with EP. If not, collecting data on planets with fundamentally different structures (No EP) and compositions seems a bit odd. Why bother looking at other planets’ chemical mixtures if in the end you’re just going to tractor beam your planet back together? Of course, Mata Nui looked at other cultures too (Meaning tantalising prospects of Bionicle characters meeting other aliens) so was it more about getting alien technology, and some pro-tips about stopping planet wide war (it’s interesting they didn’t end up in a Cold War situation seeing as they had really amazing tech on Spherus Magna) the Great Beings didn’t have/already know? Surely the priority order would be “save the world, research later”? Even though it was supposedly "research first so we know how to save the world". This of course leads to a really big question: If the Great Beings know what they want to create (how to Reform the planet), but don’t know how to make it work exactly (hence sending Mata Nui to collect random space data) why didn’t they just make another Mask of Creation (or an equivalent device) to tell them how to do it to save them about 100,000 years? You could argue they may just not want to use that since it takes away the thrill of developing, planning and creating, but one a matter as important as THE END OF THE WORLD they may put that feeling aside. The fact that they can make a Mask of Creation presents some very interesting possibilities too, but I won’t go into that. As for the “MU Ark” idea, I guess you could argue taking a bunch of warring people and putting them on a giant Megazord would probably not lead to an immediately peaceful co-existence (it doesn’t even need to have been the Mata Nui Robot, I just refer to it since it proves the GBs were capable of interstellar travel) since they would just keep fighting and probably kill each other by the time you got anywhere. Then again, would that actually leave more dead than the Shattering or not? We don’t even know how many people or percentage of people the Shattering killed. But surely the GBs would still save some people? You could argue that they may have done so but we just don’t know about it, but for the sake of the debate we’re disregarding that possibility. And how did they get away with taking the amount of EP (probably comparable to the mass of the Moon, judging by the MU's size) that must have been needed to synthesise the MU while everyone else was dying to get mere scraps of it? If extracting the EP was causing the planet’s instability, does that mean the GBs were the biggest contributor to the Shattering? Surely taking that much mass would also effect the planet’s centre of gravity, which may even cause other worse disasters like the planet’s orbit unbalancing causing it to fall into one of the Solis Magnan binary stars or out the system entirely? You could counter this idea with the “Bionicle-Physics-Is-Not-Real-World-Physics” card. To that, I will express my immense displeasure towards Greg for doing that; to me it feels like a lack of imagination. I believe it started with Jaller being able to make flames underwater, and ever since it has been a rock to hide behind when convenient. A good sci-fi can do literally anything and blag a sciency sounding excuse (seriously, check out the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Doctor Who, heck, even real world Quantum Mechanics lol). For example you could say the GBs had tuned gravity generator at specific points on the planet to keep it stable, make the Shattering survivable, maintain atmospheres, and keep the pieces together in predictable orbits (i.e. how Bara/Bota/Aqua Magna didn’t fly apart but settled together nicely in a stable orbit around one another for 100,000 years). But, I digress. This wasn’t meant to be so much about the answers/theories but more the questions...perhaps it wasn’t my destiny c: So waddya guys think? Have I completely missed something? Are there good points among my terribly articulated thought-like question/counter-questions? If anyone can tell me, it’s the members of BZP...Or Greg, but he seems to have vanished GB style. Thanks for reading, and peace! :3
  19. Okay, so we all know that Velika was a Great Being the entire time. I was just thinking that everything that happened in the storyline was his PLAN the entire time. Let me explain. The Great Beings sure did seem to mess up a lot of their creations, didn't they? For such brilliant minds, their inventions had some pretty big flaws in them that none of them seemed to notice in the developing stage. I was thinking that Velika might have actually sabotaged or modified those creations into what they are now. A big example of this is with the Matoran, Toa, etc. How does an AI glitch bring about the incredibly complex personalities of ALMOST EVERYTHING IN THE MATORAN UNIVERSE?! Furthermore, how do beings originally built to just be drones maintaining a giant robot have destinies? That just does! Not! HAPPEN! ...Unless of course, if it was Velika's plan to re-program all of them so that everything would play out like he wanted it to. You could argue that certain things that happened to him in the Matoran Universe wouldn't be beneficial in the long run, but where did it get him? One of only a few Great Beings left, on a world that's still trying to adjust to major changes, where he has arguably far more sanity and intelligence than almost anyone. In other words, prime conditions for him to take over, with him none the worse for wear. I could definitely be wrong, but it just seems to make a lot of sense to me.
  20. I was writing a response in another topic when it hit me. We don't really know anything about the Great Beings beside their names and some of their actions. We don't know their powers, appearance, limitations. So I began thinking. What are the Great Beings? We know they can't be gods because they have made major mistakes they were unable to fix. We know they have some power because they created Spherus Magna. Or do we?This is what really hit me. What if the Great Beings are the LEGO designer's themselves? It would make sense, as the Great Beings were unable to fix certain things, such as Spherus Magna before it broke or the first giant robot. There are some problems with this theory, such as the fact that the Designers had full control over BIONICLE while the Great Beings did not, but things like that can be easily bypassed.Another theory is that the Great Beings could simply be Toa-like beings wearing Masks of Creation. This would explain how they failed to fix certain problems, such as Spherus Magna and the Core War. It would also explain why the Battera and Marendar exist, because the beings may not think of themselves powerful enough to stop all the Toa.Those are my two theories. They may or may not be true. We may never know
  21. I am suspecting that the great beings had something to do with setting up the first toa. If so, why did they equip them with melee weapons? I am sure a longer range weapon, like a gun, would be more useful. Even the Vorox on Bota Magna had long range firearms!
  22. If most of the beings in the MU are part organic, then where did the Great Beings get the genetic material from?
  23. Yes, this is something that's been buzzing in the back of my head for years; the disturbing similarities between the Great Beings from Bionicle, and the Forerunners from Halo.Let's do a rundown, shall we?1. They're both a species/group that are very much shrouded in mystery within their respective media.2. They both invented massive super-structures (Forerunner Shield Worlds, the Halo Array, the Great Spirit Robot, the Red Star) to cope with some sort of massive disaster (The Flood parasite, the Shattering)3. Both are immediately associated with inventors and scholars, and possess sort of a god-like status.4. They're often portrayed in clothing that obcsures their features, so we don't really know what they look like.5. Both created very advanced technology/nanotech that still functions after several tens of thousands of years (All the robots within the Halo rings, the Baterra)So, thoughts?
  24. Equality Worlds have been broken, shattered, slainA million million scream in painThe stars in their courses wail and weepTo see the shadows drive the lightTo the abyss of endless nightTwo Guardians watch in sorrow deep - - - It began amid the wreck and ruin of another world. Bara Magna had crumbled; it's people ran scattered, divided, leaderless. The once lush planet had become a desert of grey dust. It was, even to Laramd's eyes, a sight of utter hopelessness; a monument to his latest catastrophe. "Again." said the being who walked at his side. "Again, we fail. We gave them everything, and it is not enough. This world falls like the last." Laramd sighed, jabbing his ebony curved spear into the sand. "Is it worth it, brother? Will they not always turn on us? Rahi, Matoran and Agori alike all seek to destroy the beauty that we give them. A perfect world may never be made." His companion stroked his golden chin in deep thought. "It may be so, brother." "It must be so," Laramd corrected, his usual joy replaced by deep gloom. "As long as our work is tainted by Exiver, the bright morning is always extinguished. All our work turned to despair and ruin." "That is so." the gold being answered. "And such being the case, how can we prevent Exiver's shadows?" Laramd's dark violet armor gleamed in the sun as he laughed. "Prevent Exiver? You would have better luck at passing yourself off as an Agori, my friend." "Ever have we striven to contain the power we give to the worlds we make." his companion mused, more to himself than to Laramd. "Fearing that the masses would slaughter each other and descend into chaos, we have reserved power to a few elite. Being made rulers of the world, charged with keeping the peace, have they not always turned their backs on us, and rejected our teaching?" "What are you suggesting, Orlathir?" Orlathir's gold torso swelled as he took a deep breath. "We will make a new world. A world where the power is not given to a few, but to all. Each being an equal of the other, none will have the right to set himself above others, or indeed have the ability to do this. A world of beings thus made equal may succeed where oligarchies of the past have failed." Laramd considered his brother's words carefully. As two of the three Great Beings, it behoved them to think long and hard before beginning another failure, like this planet. "And if this place where to be made, with all beings having equal power, should not they have judges to guard them from war?" Orlathir nodded slowly. "But the judges, they must be made without the power to harm the people. Else we shall see what we saw with Mata Nui and Makuta once more." The violet being pulled his spear out of the sand. "Then let us away from this dreadful place, brother, before Exiver learns of this plan." As the two glided swiftly upwards through the atmosphere, Laramd added, "What shall we call this new race that is to have such equality?" "Kilnii." Orlathir answered deliberately. "And their judges will be called Ara." - - - Equality's promises would not lastThe two would not learn from their darkened pastA new world of pain and grief would they makeA place wrung by war and ruled by greedWould never give help to those in needOf one land to heal the endless ache - - - "But you don't really believe that, do you, grandma?" asked a young Kilnii, staring into the fireplace as the age-old tale ended. "You don't think there's no hope." The tender old eyes watered. "No, of course not, Shya. There is always hope. We just can't look to the Ara or other Kilnii for it. We make our own hope, little one." Contented by her grandmother's lie, Shya leaned against the side of her chair and her eyes slowly closed.
  25. Delving Too Deep In the beginning, there was nothing. A void of death and pain. But for death and pain, you need the previously-living, and the sufferers. The Great Beings. A science-loving species, devoted to creating and destroying. Even these “Gods” bleed and die, though. And they were not the first ones. In the same way that the Matoran were based off the Agori, the Great Beings were based off their elders. But what created them and their elders? The question was never answered, though many of their kind tried. Among the Great Beings, there were always a few that delved too deep into the idea of life and existence. They would create chants and spells in an attempt to draw their creators close, so that answers might be given, and that knowledge might be theirs. Every single Great Being that supposedly “succeeded” in their mission always went mad, utterly insane without any hope of sanity returning. When they, the Great Beings, began the creation of The Mata-Nui Robot, they needed something powerful, something perfect to run it while the Great Spirit was being created. All of their experiments failed, for perfection was unattainable, yet teasingly close. Running out of time, and desperate, the Great Beings turned to their banished and maddened brothers, prying their arcane and blasphemous secrets from their destroyed minds. With this knowledge, the other Great Beings began to build a portal, an altar. A rune covered gateway to the unknown, from which they wished to draw something. Something perfect.Their mission half-succeeded. The “Seer”, the Great Being chose for looking through the portal, and finding the entity required for their needs, went insane as soon as he gazed into the alien world. His mind, as powerful as it was, could not grasp the concepts or the ideas presented by this dimension, this plane of existence. As the others looked on in terror, he fell to the floor, mumbling “It’s not right, it can’t be right, It couldn’t be…” He droned over and over. The success of their mission was small, but it still existed. A tiny member of that plane’s species, microscopic among titans, managed to slip through the portal at the final moment, escaping its brethren, creatures that would be larger than a number system could define. The Great Beings quickly put the creature to use, letting it use its sheer power to keep the Robot running while they finished their work of “The Great Spirit”. The temporary ruler was given a name, so that he might be contacted as he worked. They called him ‘Tren Krom’.
