artwork Round and round we go - the 100th redesign
Taka Nuvia posted a blog entry in ArtBLOGedLong story short, I was recently reminded of the Clockwork Night game over in G&T ages ago, and realized that the character I played there had the same name as my usual OC/BZP namesake, if you will. And was an Agori/Protector - and that I'd never drawn her, so hey, why not redesign my 13-year-old OC again. So that's what I did, gleefully ignoring that everyone was supposed to be from the Jungle region so I can stick to the old colour scheme, and here we are. Notable design changes: dropped the wings because that's just silly exchanged the very impractical staff/halberd/spear weapon thingie for a slightly less imprcatical one the mask, obviously (though some design elements are there to reflect the Avohkii, like the split design of the lower parts of the mask) I did keep the skull belt, patterns under the eyes, heterochromia and Mata feet because rule of cool. Honestly I might keep this iteration around for the next few years. It's something new, and I like it better than ye olde "Toa has been half corrupted by shadows but not really" concept.
How about these Toa Inika recolours?
msw41 posted a topic in General ArtThis has been on my mind to do for a few weeks, finally got some time to realise them: I know many don't like the Inika much, but I was young enough to enjoy the change of direction without thinking too much when they came out, so I have a soft spot for them, even the new colour schemes they brought. But I wanted to see what they'd look like with their respective original colours, and in Hahli's case a (attempted) translucent mask. What do you think? Gali- Toa of Water
h_e_barlow posted a topic in General ArtI realized with the last few posts I had made, I gave you guys HUGE info dumps about the characters and their background, and after seeing other info dump post on the internet, I'm SOO sorry I just loaded everything on you at once! Please forgive me DX From now on, all the large details will be placed either on my Patreon site (which is free to read) or in my journal on Deviant Art. I change the style again, since I really want to emphasize the size and shape differences between each character. I think what really helped me flesh out how I wanted Gali to look was thinking more in terms of "feeling" rather than just straight esthetics or tribal design - especially when it came to incorporating her personality, temperament, and element (water) into how she looks. I think this was the most challenging part of her redesign- shaping her overall design based on these elements- and her body type. And Gali is a curvy lady! (with like, no boobs.) So I decided to look into how to dress for pear-shaped bodies, focusing more on details on the top half of her body rather than the bottom. I've also added some shell armour for her (since she is still a Toa after all!), including a conch arm shield and shell shoulder guard. Normally I'd be posting with her mask on, but I wanted you to see what her face looks like before I slap that sucker on there. The mask picture will be posed in DA my journal for now.
Onyx.5 posted a topic in General ArtHello BZP, been a while since I've done anything more than lurk. I was feeling sort of nostalgic, so I decided to do a quick painting of everyone's favorite (and only) toa-piloted mecha. I didn't use any reference while drawing it, so some parts are... well, the whole thing is wildly inaccurate, but some parts are more inaccurate than I intended. I present to you, Tahu's customized exo-toa. Edit: Well, I'll leave the original post for posterity. I ended up drawing some more things after all, let's see if I can't keep them in some sort of order. Tahu's Exo Toa : Front line defender type. Originally a one-off sketch of a heavily modified exo-toa, with emphasis on interesting/strange proportions. Pohatu's Exo Toa : Speedy recon type. Internal structure sketch : Just trying to figure out proportions and structure for myself, if I'm going to draw several of these, I'm going to want some consistency. I've decided to make the large upper legs and bulky collar in to defining features of these units. I Might have to drew a new structure with more thought put in to how these would actually work; I'd like to include some amount of organic components. Gali's ET sketch : Some visual thoughts on the amphibious type.
The Great Matragon posted a topic in General ArtHello. I'm the Great Matragon, long time Bionicle fan and forum lurker. Well, this has a little bit of history behind it. You see, not only am I a Bionicle and Lego fan, I'm also a Transformer Fan. I even have a Transformers-based Webcomic, called Transformers Nexus. But you may not be interested in such facts, so allow me to explain further. You see, some issues of my comic don't focus on the Transformers at all. Rather, they focus on other characters in their crazy little universe. And, for anybody who wants to know why I bring this up, that includes the Toa Mata, whom you may recognize from the first known Bionicle Saga, and are widely considered fan favorites. However, having biomechanical beings that look more like robots then anything else can be a little confusing for both the crowds that walk the streets and those readers not 100% familiar with the franchise. So, to compensate, I gave these Toa a little trick other then masks that do stuff and elemental manipulation. That trick is the ability to assume human shapes so they can fit in better with the crowds. Like Kamen Rider... in reverse, or something. Anyway, enough about that, here're the bios for these amazing redesigns (Matter of Opinion.)
