  1. So I was able to see Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice last weekend. I just haven't had a chance to post anything about it until now thanks to work and other events in my life. Sometimes, I really think I need to go on more vacations... Anyways, here are my thoughts on Dawn of Justice. It contains spoilers, so don't read it if you haven't seen it yet and don't want to know said spoilers about it. Thanks for reading. What did you guys think of the movie?
  2. Yep, ANOTHER trailer for Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice was released today. I don't think I've ever seen a movie get so many trailers before. I would throw out a complaint about the movie having too many trailers, but then I watched this new one and, well, it actually made my interest in the movie grow a bit. Only the first teaser has really done this for me before. This new one was really good. I won't spoil anything here for those that don't want to see it, but I will say that if you like how Batman fights in the Arkham games, you will like the beginning of this trailer.
  3. Note: This entry talks about the latest Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer that was released yesterday. If you are someone who doesn't want to see a trailer or learn anything from a trailer about an upcoming movie, then don't read this. Spoilers are below. So what did I think of the newest trailer for the movie? It was alright, TBH. I don't think that we needed another trailer for this movie though. I believe that people have most likely already decided if they will be seeing Dawn of Justice or not at this point in time, and this trailer isn't going to change their minds one way or the other. Plus, the trailer revealed some info about the movie. Info that I feel could've been kept from the public until the film was in theaters. (Looking at you, Doomsday.) I do have some bullet points on the film, and they are: 1. Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent meeting at a party. Their conversation slash minor debate about how Batman and Superman perform their respective jobs in their cities was kind of fun to watch. You can tell that Clark doesn't agree with Batman's methods of crime fighting, and on the other side Bruce doesn't like the idea of someone like Superman, someone who could 'burn down the planet' in his point of view, going around unchecked. 2. Lex Luthor is also at this party. I do think that Jesse Eisenberg is a good actor, but he plays his version of Lex so over the top in his scene with Clark and Bruce. Based on the other scenes that he has been shown in, I don't think he will be like that through the whole movie. At least, I hope he isn't like that. 3. We also see more shots of the end of Man of Steel from Bruce's point of view. I really think that these scenes are the very beginning of the movie, as they would help to show why Bruce is so against Superman. Bruce sees the Man of Steel as a possible threat to the world, and I bet his viewing of the Superman and Zod fight are what spawns that thought for him. 4. Like in the last trailer, we see Batman fighting men who are wearing Superman's logo on their uniforms. Except this time, we have what appears to be either robots or winged goblin creatures flying around them and attacking the men as well. I have read people's theories on what they are, but I personally have no idea what they could be. 5. We also see Batman chained up in an underground chamber, with Superman coming in and unmasking him. I've seen a lot of people speculate that this is just Batman imagining a worst case scenario about what Superman's true motives are like. I really hope that it isn't the case, because that would feel kind of cheap to me. I don't see why Superman would have Batman chained up though. I guess the movie will answer that when it comes out. (Or if another trailer reveals why. ) 6. We also get more scenes from the battle that takes place between Superman and Batman. I'll still interested in seeing why Batman tries to battle Superman head up like this. Because we've seen what Superman could do in the Man of Steel. Not even Batman in a suit of armor would last long in a fight against him. That is, unless he has some Kryptonite with him, which I think is going to be in the film too. Plus, I've read that Batman's suit is composed out of General Zod's armor, so that could help him in the fight, I guess. 7. Like I said before, Doomsday is revealed in this trailer. Now I'm not an expert on DC characters by any means. I'm more of a Marvel person. So I have no idea what he is supposed to look like. But even I can guess that he isn't suppose to look like a hybrid of The Abomination from The Incredible Hulk and one of the Ninja Turtles from Michael Bay's TMNT. I don't that much about him except that he kills Superman in the comics, but I'm disappointed with his look. He just looks bland to me. 8. Wonder Woman is in this too. She saves Batman from Doomsday's laser vision attack, though this causes an explosion that levels a part of a city. I guess she's join Superman in court when the actual Justice League movie comes out to explain this. 9. And finally, we get a shot of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman standing together against Doomsday. Its a cool shot, but what really has people talking about it is the fact that Batman is holding a gun in it. Its odd to see a character whom you've known to never use a gun to be using one here. I'm not really bothered by it, but given Batman's history I can see why some people are scratching their heads about this. That is about all I have to say about this new trailer. What did you guys think of it?
  4. Hello. If you have talked to me or seen my posts, you might have suspected that I like DC Comics. I have noticed that a couple others here do as well, so lets talk about it! Here are some starting points for discussion. Choose one, choose al, choose none, I don't care: -- Have you ever read a DC comic book or graphic novel? Can you tell us what they are and give a brief summary without spoilers? What graphic novels do you want to get (a wish list)? -- What are some of your favorite and disliked characters/factions? Why? -- Do you enjoy both Marvel, DC, and other comic book franchises/universes, or do you strictly prefer one over the other. -- What are your feelings about Warner Bros.' in-development DCCU (DC Cinematic Universe)? Do you think Man of Steel was a good movie to start from? -- Do you want Hans Zimmer to make all the music for the DCCU? -- Have you heard about the television shows Arrow and The Flash? Do you watch them? What are your feelings about the shows? Do you think there will be more spin-offs? -- Do you think CBS' up-coming show Supergirl will be good? Should it take place in the same universe as the aforementioned shows? -- How is the TV show Constantine? I haven't watched it (my mother watches too many TV shows and thus couldn't find an opening for myself)..Has Swamp Thing made an appearance, or any other supernatural DC characters; do you think characters such as, Raven or Brother Blood will make an appearance? Do you want this show to take place in the same world as CW's Arrow and The Flash? -- Do you think TNT's up-coming show Teen titans will be any good? -- How do you feel about all these DC Universe television shows? -- Do you think Teen Titans Go! is funny? Do you enjoy the easter eggs pertaining to the rest of the DC Universe in every episode as much as I do? -- Have you seen any of the animated DC direct-to-DVD movies? -- Were you disappointed about the discontinuation of the DC Animated Universe, Green Lantern: The Animated Series, and Young Justice? -- Batman has a series of video games, just in-case you didn't know. Can you see any other character getting a quality video game? -- Would you count LEGO's BIONICLE as being part of the DC Universe? Could you see characters such Onepu and Balta being Green Lanterns for the Solis Magna solar system? Would Darkseid take interest in Spherus Magna because of all the powerful characters and the avatar the makes up the planet's core? Would the Great Beings have had contact with Kryptonians in ages past before the Core War? -- Any other topics you wish to raise? i will answer a few of them for myself: -- Have you ever read a DC comic book or graphic novel? Can you tell us what they are and give a brief summary without spoilers? What graphic novels do you want to get (a wish list)? I have only read the following graphic novels: Batman: Birth of the Demon and Aquaman: The Trench. I would like to get: --- Aquaman: The Others, Aquaman: Throne of Atlantis, Batman: Court of Owls, Batman: City of Owls, Batman: The Long Halloween, Batman: The Man Who Laughs, The Killing Joke, Superman: Last Son of Krypton, Lex Luthor: Man of Steel, HawkWorld, The Red Hood Trilogy, Death of Superman Trilogy, Superman: Birthright, Earth One: Superman Vol.1, and maybe a couple of pre-New 52 Powergirl GNs. Any good Wonder Woman and Green Lantern graphic novels, or any other GN recommendations I have not listed? -- Batman is probably my favorite DC character, as I grew up with him and he has personally affected my personality. Other favorites would have to be Darkseid, Arthur Curry/Aquaman, Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Kal-El, Karra Zor-L,
  5. As you may know, LEGO and DC Comics released 22 variant covers for their comics in November to promote LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham. I, of course, had to have some of these for my collection! Here's what I was able to snag: (^Link. Also: Flickr.) Some of these are gracing my collection (and will look great when/if I frame some favorite covers), some are being donated to the BrickFair charity auction, and some I'm saving for sale/trade later (or now, PM me). Some of the variant covers paid homage to covers that appeared a few years back: And just to be clear, only these variant covers are LEGO-ized. The contents are the exact same normal art as one would find in the regular cover comic. While variant covers are most certainly an easy gimmick to boost sales and perhaps gain new readers to a title, sometimes the price is right and the cover is cool enough to accept that. (What I won't do it pay way too much for a cover.) LEGO did this with Marvel last year for LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, and I was able to grab two (donating Wolverine to BrickFair's auction). What's next? I'll continue to collect and build superhero minifigs from all my favorite titles! -CF

I have a handful of favorite comic book artists: Chris Bachalo, Stuart Immonen (those All-New X-Men covers, am I right?), Dave McKean, and recently Jae Lee in Batman/Superman (apologies to Jack Kirby, though I'll soon read some FF comics drawn by him), but none of them have drawn my #1 favorite cover ever. See, now and then a comic might get published with a blank variant cover made from hard stock paper, the purpose being for commissions, presumably from a well-known comic artist visiting a convention (or your 2-year-old who likes Batman). I took a slightly less orthodox approach and handed my comic over to a friend. Don't take this notion lightly. This was a paid commission (in various terms), but it was worth every penny. And, while everything comes with a price, I'm sure she'll be up for earning a bit of cash for commissions if you just drop her a PM. Without further ado, this is the lovely Lady Kopaka's fantastic, wonderful, too-good-for-words-like-those-raptors drawing of Batman and Superman on Batman/Superman #1, N52, published in June. I especially like how the capes flow with their length. And the backgrounds for each character. And the attention to detail, like Clark's t-shirt instead of his suit since that's what he has in this issue. Now I just gotta figure out how to frame this! -CF (Seriously though, send her a PM and see if she has the time for commissions. She likes making money off of her talent.)
  7. SUSY HAD THE POWER TO TURN THINGS INTO ANY COLOR OF THE RAINBOW SHE CHOSE. It was a very potent power. She was going to make all the difference in the world with it. By that, of course, one can only assume that all the difference in the world equated to making children happier, and she was most often seen changing the colors of balloons and carnival candy. It was a pretty cool benefit, actually. She got to see the smiles of children all the time and she let them believe in magic and all that. In her mind, it was certainly making a difference.. Then her sister, Katy, found out that she wasn't just switching balloons and that it was an actual superpower. "Wait, seriously, can you actually just change the color of stuff at will?" she asked. "Yes. So?" asked Susy. "Can you change the color of my eyes?" Katy asked. "I always wanted blue eyes, but I didn't want them to be contacts. I want genuinely blue eyes." "What's wrong with the ones you have?" asked Susy. "I always liked your brown eyes." "But blue would be cooler," said Katy. "Why not? You have your superpowers. They're meant to be used, and you like using them to make life more fun. Why not make my eyes blue?" "I don't know," said Susan. "With great power comes great responsibility. I think your eyes were meant to be brown." "What's the difference between my eyes and those balloons?" asked Katy. "Well, a lot of things," said Susan. "You're a piece of art already so beautifully made. I'd hate to alter it. Balloons aren't that special. I don't think it's right. Please don't peer pressure me." "Alright, but could you change the colors of some of my clothes so that they match?" "Well, I guess I do that with my stuff every day," said Susan. She looked down at her Sunday clothes, which included a playful red tie half-taught around her neck and a red trench coat that made her feel nice and pirate-y. Red was her Sunday color, and she had orange for Monday, yellow for Tuesday, green for Wednesday, and so on, ending with violet for Saturday. "Sure. Is there anything you want?" "My prom dress isn't the right shade of pink. I'd also like some prismatic blue highlights," she said. "Something very artistic. Hey, there you go! Why don't you use your powers to be really artistic? You'd be the best artist in the world!" Susy liked that idea. After changing Katy's clothes, she went out to do a lot of "painting", although it was really just imagining any colorful image that came to her mind and willing it onto the canvas. She figured people really enjoyed that, too, just like they enjoyed balloons. It was different, but she still saw that it touched the world in new and unique ways. She even impressed a guy named Emperor Kraggh who did a lot of black-and-white pencil drawings and didn't normally see the value in colorful art. She painted chapels and buildings and giant murals with all the colors of the rainbow, glorifying sunsets and country life, city life, and life. She painted weather, childhood, adulthood, and the many things that people experienced between birth and death. It was all glorious, and she was sure she was making a difference. Then one day a man in a white suit and cape came to her. He had many, many superpowers and called himself Superman. "Susan," he said. "I heard you change the colors of clothes." "Wow, Superman. Yes, I do. What do you want?" "I also heard that you change the colors of balloons," he said. "Someone named Clark Kent wrote a very interesting story about it. I love how simple colors make such a huge difference in peoples' lives and spread so much love. I have a question." "Yes?" "Could you change the colors of my suit? They're all white, but I want a prism of the primary colors. My home planet is a world of crystals and light. I think it's a little more fitting." "Alright," said Susy. She touched Superman on the chest and a spectrum of three bright colors spread throughout: red, blue, and yellow, as bright as the laserlights from the crystals on Krypton. "Thank you," said Superman, and he flew off. Susy felt silly. She had no powers compared to him. And he was making a true difference. Then, a while later, it occurred to her that she created what might have been the mot iconic color scheme ever. And she lived on happily. It turned out that she really did make all the difference in the world with her power. ---------- For the sake of clarity and so that certain elements of this don't seem quite so jarring, this was part of an Ambage Write-Off, and it was our objective to write a Rainbows-themed story in 15 minutes. This was the first thing to come to mind. Looking at what everyone else wrote, I'm surprised to find that I'm the only person who actually played the theme straight. Almost everyone else used it to write something grim and/or depressing. Lighten up, folks! 24601
  8. Cute, funny, and heartwarming, the timeless love of Lois and Clark has entertained generations of readers and viewers and provided the definitive example of the archetypal conflicts and challenges of love between humanity and its champion. There have been many interpretations on the meaning of such an affair; this is but one. For its surprising relatability and fantasy-like charm, but above all for its uncompromising humanity, it has reached many people and stayed in their hearts. It is therefore this author's way of celebrating over seventy years of love by creating his own take on the timeless tale. He hopes you enjoy reading it as much as he enjoyed writing it.24601
  9. On The Planet's Roof LOIS SCURRIED DOWN FROM THE ROOF. Some heads turned. Everyone seemed to notice her excitement, save for Clark, who was too busy working on his economics article to take note. She sat down in her desk directly across from him and typed on her computer with a satisfied smile. The rapid sound of keys filled the otherwise silent room for a full minute...........Clark finally looked up. "Lois, do you want me to proofread your work?".........."What? No," said Lois. Of course not. This was too good for anyone to see until she was done...........Clark leaned over the desk space between them. Lois stopped smiling and glared at him. "I've never seen you so enthusiastic to work. Wasn't your normal typing rate forty words per minute last I checked?"..........Lois let her hands rest. "Clark, you'll find out later. Let's just say I scored gold on something.".........."On the rooftop?"..........Lois eyed him. Clark was the most mild-mannered reporter she knew, and yet there was no one else on Earth more frustrating. Although she could tell that the curiosities of other reporters had been piqued the moment she entered the office, only Clark seemed to have the guts to press any questions...........She held her tongue for a beat, or rather, her lower lip, which she tucked under her upper teeth as she eyed Clark. "Yes, on the roof." No point in denying that much..........."You must have seen something pretty incredible," said Clark..........."Yep. Sure did," said Lois. She returned to her typing, yet she maintained eye contact with Clark in some sort of staring contest..........."Whatever it was, given your spelling problems, which are already terrible, you're probably going to misspell half your words at this rate," said Clark...........Lois briefly broke the staring context to look down at her screen. Sure enough, half the words were underlined in red squiggles. Bullocks. "I have spell-check on my side," she said..........."You might still want some peer revision," said Clark..........."Nope. I have Chief to do that for me," said Lois, almost bursting at this point as she switched from the defense to her normal prideful state. Clark only responded with the facial equivalent of a shrug...........From the other end of the office, editor-in chief Perry White rang out "Don't call me 'Chief!'"..........Lois and Clark looked around and froze for a moment. As animation returned to their bodies, they turned back to each other and for a moment, neither saying nor expressing anything. Then, in unison, they laughed...........When Clark regained his composure, he sighed and returned to his work. "I admire you ability to multitask, by the way."..........Lois smiled to herself as she continued to write her article at top speeds. For whatever reason - she didn't understand why - it wasn't a smirk, but a real smile, the same she had felt come to her eyes when she was on the rooftop. "Thanks," she said...........When she glanced up, Clark was back at his work, adjusting his glasses and reading over his economics report. When he noticed her looking at him, he smiled, or at least tried. Suddenly she was struck at how sad he looked. "It's just something I wish I could do better."..........Clark returned to focus, but Lois was almost certain she saw him give something of himself away. She knew it was none of her business, but she was a reporter. She took note on everything. Clark was more complex than people gave him credit for. Most people were, as a general principle. Lois stopped typing as new curiosities popped into her mind. Her article could wait...........She averted her eyes away from Clark now and opened up a new document, the one where she kept a list of all her unanswered questions. She typed a new bullet point: "What makes Clark sad?" She saved and exited. The document that was mostly red squiggles returned to the front of the screen...........The sound of clicking keys that filled the silence now belonged to Clark..........."Hey, Clark, do you have any friends?" asked Lois...........Clark stopped typing. "I have my mother, and when I was in high school I had a friend named Pete Ross.".........."No, I mean friends right now.".........."Well I have you, Lois." He said it with a straight face..........."You have got to be kidding me!" said Lois. "I'm terrible to you. I'm a brat. I treat you like nothing.".........."You're a greater hero for me than you give yourself credit for," said Clark. "You're all those things, but you put up with me all the same. Whenever you have a rant, you come to me first. And let's not forget, we make an awesome team. Remember when we investigated to see if Lex Luthor was twisting the arm of Senator Jennings?".........."Clark, the only reason I took you with me was because Chie - " she caught herself and cast a glance to Perry White's office, "Because Perry think we're perfect. That, and you tripped and ruined everything for me. Some team, huh?".........."Well, to my understanding you were pushing the boundaries of honest reporting anyway," said Clark. "And you admitted as much."..........Lois lifted a paperwieght and feigned a toss at Clark. He flinched. "Yeah, well I still would have had the ultimate story.".........."Even better than the one you have right now?" asked Clark...........It was now Lois's turn to flinch. "You changed the subject on me.".........."I did?".........."Yes, Clark, you did, and it was totally a reporterly thing to do," said Lois..........."Sorry. I should get back to my own article," said Clark..........."Wait, you can get that thing done in two minutes flat. How fast can you type anyway?".........."Over nine thousand, when you're not looking."..........Lois chuckled, cuaght off guard. She didn't expect Clark to be the type of person to make that kind of reference. "Okay, how about when I am looking?".........."Four hundred words per minute with ninety-eight percent accuracy," said Clark..........."See? So at that rate you could get your boring business article done in a few minutes, plus a few extra just to organize your thoughts, but you're a genius anyway so it shouldn't take too long. I can't imagine you'd be a busy person," said Lois...........Clark looked like he was struggling for a response. In the end, he said nothing, just returned to his report..........."No, don't you do that to me," said Lois. "Clark? Clark! C'mon, let's just talk. What do you say to visiting Mickey's Diner?" When he looked up at her she realized what she had said. "No, not as a date. Don't let that enter your mind. As a friend. As a coworker, because that's what coworkers do.".........."Lois, no need to be defensive. I asked you there the first day I met you, remember? I understand," said Clark...........That was right. Lois remembered sitting across from him and sharing with him her ambitions. He had sat there, eating his food, taking it all in, and every once and a while threw in his little bits of Midwest wisdom. Now that she thought about it, he had been awfully nice to her. Maybe it was time she returned the favor..........."Well, it's a little more than that. I met someone recently, someone with a heart of gold, someone kind, and he's sort of inspired me," said Lois. "I want to be more like him, and this is the sort of thing he would do.".........."'Whatever you do for the least of these you do unto me?'" quoted Clark..........."Uh, yeah, I see your reasoning there," said Lois. "He would totally like you, by the way.".........."I'm going to pretend I have no idea who you're talking about at this point," said Clark with a wry smile...........Lois closed her tight and scrunched up her face. "Stupid...I can't believe I gave myself away there." She let her face relax and took a deep breath. "Yes, I guess I might as well share that with you, anyway. We're friends, after all, like you said. And Clark?".........."Yes?".........."You can proofread my paper when we get there."..........Clark smiled with his eyes, but then his eyes went completely out of focus. "Sorry, Lois, something just came up. I have to go! Sorry!" He turned off his computer and jolted out of the office, leaving his roller chair spinning and Lois surprised. What was with that Clark Kent?..........Lois rested her cheek on one hand and sat there for a while, staring into the distance. Her thoughts occasionally shifted back to her article, but Clark returned to her mind again and again, so much so that it surprised her. He was an odd character, but maybe it was worth accepting Clark as her friend...........Then something came to her. Her journalistic instincts came back, and she opened up her bullet list again to add her latest question..........."What's with that Clark Kent?" Review 24601

    Superman

. . .Is a alright character, I suppose, although he's really hard to write properly. For every good Superman story there are five "meh, okay" stories and four "absolutely horrible must cleanse with fire!" stories, but that one story is really, really, awesome, you know? Best superhero is still Spider-Man, though.
  12. It's late and I'm tired, so I'm just going to post the stuff and maybe update it with some commentary later.[flash=400,300]http-~~-//vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=32428241&server=vimeo.com&show_title=0&show_byline=0&show_portrait=0&color=00ADEF&fullscreen=1.swf The computer I usually use is busted, so I couldn't fix the sideways pictures.
