BIONICLE MAFIA IX: SENTINELS OF THE DARKENED SKIES

Voltex

Prologue

iBrow – or Voltex – or Tex, it no longer mattered – remained kneeling right where the Mysterious Figure had left him. Sector 31 shimmered around him, morphing into a huge cavern filled with lava that boiled and lashed against the rock trapping it. After a moment, the Matoran realized that he wasn’t just enraged – his rage was radiating off of him in waves.

What was going on?

He opened his palm and a ball of fire lit itself in the middle; he hurled it at the wall and the flames spewed all over the ancient stones before vanishing.

So that was what was happening.

It was time to get his Staff back.

---

A cloaked figure stood atop the Coliseum in Metru-Nui, Staff held high. Bolts of lighting crackled away from the staff in arcs, striking bodies all over the destroyed city and awakening the dead. As the sole survivor raced to the surface to proclaim the good news, the figure atop the Coliseum allowed a brief smile to form – hope was a powerful weapon.

BANG.

The figure was blasted from behind and propelled forwards by the explosion, tumbling right to the edge of the Coliseum before coming to a stop. Down below, the revived Matoran all began to point – after all, it wasn’t everyday that a blazing inferno struck the tower.

“I think you have something that belongs to me,” the newcomer said.

The figure stood, glancing from the staff and then back to the new arrival. Before the newcomer could react, the figure pointed the staff and sent a sphere of solid shadow at him, striking him in the chest and sending him reeling.

“No!” the newcomer shouted. “I am Voltex, I am the Pyro! You will not defeat me!”

Lunging faster than the eye could track, Voltex tackled the figure and grabbed the Staff, attempting to rip the Staff from the thief’s grasp. However, the figure was just as strong, as the energy radiating from the Staff was absorbed by them both.

---

Down below, the Matoran scattered as a larger bolt of lightning flashed down towards them, slamming into the ground with so much force that the ground shattered underneath it, fracturing for a twenty foot radius.

“What is going on up there?” one of the Matoran wondered aloud.

---

Voltex was wondering the exact same thing as he dodged another shadow blast, slamming both fists onto the platform, an explosion of fire erupting upon impact and knocking the figure back, though an icy gale immediately swept through, preventing the attack from doing the damage intended. The figure sent another blast of lightning at him through the Staff but Voltex easily dodged, leaping forward and snatching the Staff for himself.

That was, ironically, his biggest mistake.

As soon as he began to teleport away, the Figure grabbed the Staff and counteracted the teleport; the Staff, its defenses already stripped thin by the two combatants, retaliated with a shockwave of pure energy that sliced through the Coliseum like butter before cleaving through the ground underneath. As both halves of the Coliseum began to collapse, the Mysterious Figure ripped the Staff away from Voltex’s hands and teleported away, leaving the would-be Host falling through the sky.

---

To those on the planet far below, the enormous robot bearing down on them didn’t exactly inspire confidence. When a blinding white wave of pure energy ripped the robot into two pieces, however, their curiosity was aroused. Three of the figures extended their wings and took off into the skies to search more closely.

---

Before Voltex could die from hitting the ground of Metru-Nui, the ground was no longer there. The colossal robot they had all been inhabiting was splitting down the middle, and the next instant Metru-Nui itself was separating; and then suddenly Voltex was no longer alone in the air.

Fire consumed Metru-Nui as everything that could explode did explode, as per what one would expect of a giant robot being destroyed. While the ruined halves of the robot’s giant head fell towards the desert planet below, the rest of the robot spiraled off elsewhere into space.

But we’re concerned with Voltex right now, and he was (unfortunately) also headed for the desert planet below.

Voltex sailed past the spiraling Portalfig and the flailing Lloyd; past the screaming Xaeraz (though Voltex was 99.9% certain the screaming was because the bloodthirsty Matoran was having fun with the impromptu skydiving). The X and Canis both tumbled across his path, battered by wreckage streaming from the ruined city below them. Taka Nuvia, who had just survived the recent invasion, was tucked into a ball to avoid the same misfortune.

---

The three figures – the Sentinels, watched as 25 figures spiraled towards the surface of the planet, smokes streaming from their bodies and marking the air behind them. The flaming wreckage of what had once been the head of a mighty robot was the first to land, crashing into the desert sand with such force that the surface visibly shifted, fire and metal and stone and smoke flying in all directions.

Then, one by one, the falling figures landed, tumbling through the sand and clouding the area with the microscopic grains, obscuring everything from view. The three Sentinels glanced at each other silently before diving one by one into the center of the wreckage, where the 25 figures had landed in various places.

---

Voltex lay upon the sand, his chest heaving in an attempt to breathe as the remnant powers left behind by the Staff of Unlimited Power repaired his body. He slowly stood to his feet, wavering as the action caused more power to radiate from him into the bodies of the other players, reviving them one by one as three figures descended from the obscured skies.

“Wh-who are you?” the Host asked, his voice hoarse from the harsh air.

“We are the Sentinels,” one answered, “and you are going to need us if you want to survive.”

“The skies are dark!” A Matoran (maybe Pulse) yelled.

“I’m looking for something,” Voltex said. “The Staff of Unlimited Power – it was stolen.”

The three Sentinels glanced to each other. “Then you are in trouble indeed… the darkest days are upon us. Let us hope that the darkened skies are not an omen for worse to come.”

Rules:
1. BZP Rules Apply
2. Roles will have 2 days to pm each night. 2 days will be given to vote for each lynching.
3. A group pm will be used for the Hunters - decisions must be made final there unless otherwise stated.
4. You cannot reveal your sibling in-topic.
5. Not a rule, per se; just that, if you're changing your vote, pleeeeease tell me who you're changing from. :)

Roles:
Every player within The Village or The Hunters factions will have one other sibling. You will be notified of your sibling via pm, but will not know your sibling's role.
The Village
Matoran x18 - Once more the ordinary villagers, the Matoran can only vote for suspects during the day that they believe to be guilty.

Medic x1 – A Ko-Matoran deeply involved in the medical field who has gone through this experience before. He can target one other player each night to save. This power extends to the sibling of the target, if any are still alive. The Medic cannot save himself or his sibling.

Detective x1 – A roaming Matoran that has a lot of experience with the Hunters and has learned the ways of discovering them. He can investigate one player each night to discover their true identity.

The Hunters
The Coder x1 – This Hunter kills as usual – however, they are so skilled at scrambling the brains of those around them and their ways of communication are so complicated that no hints to their identity can be given. As such, when The Coder kills, no suspect list will be given. The Coder turns up innocent in investigations.

The Father x1 – As the unofficial leader of the Hunters, The Father is so skilled at killing that he can kill two people in one night when sent, possibly killing four when siblings die as well. However, when The Father is sent the suspect list is cut in half from six to three.

The Cloaker x1 – This Hunter kills as usual – however, this Hunter once trained alongside the Medic, and is skilled in the medical field. As such, one other Hunter cane be completely shielded on nights that The Cloaker is active. That Hunter cannot be killed, and the suspect list will be expanded from six to eight.

The Sniper x1 – This Hunter kills as usual, hunting from afar. Due to this, no lynchings can occur for the Sniper during rounds where The Sniper is active, as it takes twice as long for the Detective to procure a suspect list. However, The Sniper can be lynched the following round in a suspect list shortened from six to four.

The Hunter x1 – This Hunter is your typical everyday Hunter, with no real special abilities. However, some say that this Hunter’s opinion counts the highest when the group decides who to kill each night.

The Others
Sentinels x3 – These three Av-Matoran have special powers. Each night, they can select as many players as there are surviving Sentinels to protect from the Hunters and Mysterious Figure(up to three). If targeted for death or the sibling of a player targeted for death by the Hunters, these players will instead survive. However, their siblings will still be killed by the action. The Sentinels do not have siblings.

Mysterious Figure x1 – Each night he can kill one player – however, that player’s sibling will survive the attack. This player can only die once the entire Hunters group is eliminated or all three Sentinels are killed. This player turns up as a Matoran if investigated. The Mysterious Figure is the thief of the Staff of Unlimited Power, and it is their fault that this game is occurring. The Mysterious Figure does not have a sibling.

Detective Voltex x1 – An official role given to Voltex, who should have been the host of the game. Voltex cannot be killed at all and has no siblings. Due to the Staff of Unlimited Power being stolen, Voltex cannot perform his duties properly – as such, he is undertaking investigations to discover who stole the staff. Each day, more evidence towards the Mysterious Figure’s identity will be given to the Detective, who may choose to share the information as they wish.

Is the Detective Voltex "role" just there to give the story more relevance to the game, or is there actually some way in which you somehow don't know who the Mysterious Figure is? I strongly suspect the former but it doesn't hurt to ask.

GENERATION 3: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig on any forum and add 1 to the generation. Social experiment.
If I actually tried putting all the stuff I like on here, the sig would burst.

My bad regarding the siblings; forgot to add the explanation in.

You have a player you cannot kill until all of the Mafia are dead - I figured it might help to have a few vague hints. That's where I come in.

Also, it just makes sense.

It's also an experiment in the Host being able to play a little bit.

Adding everyone above this post in.

Oh. That explains it.

But if all the Mafia needs to die before the SDV (Secret Detective Voltex), then doesn't that mean the Mafia can't win?

Oh, wait, never mind... the SDV is neutral, and not actually a player, so never mind.

Since no one seems to have any questions (s.), I'll ask a couple of my own:

The Cloaker shields another hunter. Does he solely shield the hunter from the Mysterious Figure, or does he prevent his lynching in the day as well or also protect him from some other thing?

Since the Mysterious Figure cannot be killed before the mafia, what happens if he is lynched?

Just from the Mysterious Figure.

Your question regarding the lynchings will be answered during gameplay. :)

*takes spot 20*The title makes me think of "Sentinels of the Starry Skies."

'twas the point, and the reason why I requested IX specifically. =P (Although back then it was Bloody Skies, not Darkened)

Unit added.

EDIT: Valendale added.

I take it a sibling is a player that dies when you die, except when otherwise stated, and of whom you are aware (hence why you cannot reveal him in the topic). If that player is lynched, do you die, or does the death-link only apply to night killings?

Siblings will die if their partner is lynched.

Ah.

So, this means if we lynch one Mafia/Hunter, we would get another, correct?

Or could a villager/mafia(hunter, whatever) combination occur? Because that would be interesting.

You'll have to wait and see. ;)

I feel like he would investigate you pretty quickly.

On an unrelated note, when did the caps lock restrictions get removed from topic titles? It looks like I can finally bring back BZBattles or BZNaval Battles or BZRepublic, and use their actual names for the topic.
